please stop asking for this. Not everyone wants training wheels.

Anet will never add cast bars and most likely continue to improve on the skill animations. Though from my personal experience from picking gw1 back up again this game is the epitome of training wheels but, that’s just my opinion.

Just remove the trait system

Amstel Steel.2058

The trait system is nice, I don’t get the whining.

The current trait system imo is the main cause behind this game’s combat being so passive based. Basically any trait that automatically activates without the player having to do anything or very little.

Instead, the focal point of the trait system should be altering the effectiveness of skills being activated by the player instead of the system automatically doing it for the player.

Where do you want them to get money from? They already have a very little pvp team if you don’t sell them we don’t get balance I really wish they could add more stuff everybody want to buy so they can balance this game already.

Where did gw1 get the money from? Anet is not in a financial crisis. The fact we have to pay for custom arenas at all with only a conquest mode is a huge turn off for a game’s spvp population that may or may not be dwindling but is certainly frustrated.

in PvP

Posted by: Amstel Steel.2058

Amstel Steel.2058

TDM can work we just need the skills, traits, and maps to be able to.

Right after smallest scale animations are normalized and are better telegraphed to react to with a much needed rework of trait passiveness and quite possibly more weapon skills operating as multiple actions like the #1 skill does in order to provide a less spam based approach and a potentially more coordinated approach. Get rid of auto attack entirely and remake weapon skill #1 into more than just filler.

I remember hearing it wasn’t possible to provide a TDM mode due to no solid healer role but, honestly you could have no solid healer roles in gw1 RA with decent support and a decent team meta/counter and face similar groups with no heals. Besides the additional skills and traits make it completely possible to have both TDM meta/counters that flush versus using conquest meta/counters that flush.

The skills and traits and maps to do so just isn’t here yet but, I’d love to know if Anet has plans to add a TDM.

I really liked the direction for the art at the end of it.

But, not the overall theme.

This game IMO is an ESRB E/T rating hybrid. Anet absolutely pushes the envelop on showing skin and gums down everything else with absolutely no infrequent use of strong language (that I know of). Like a PG rated script on a PG-13 rated picture.

It was suppose to be the queen falling to her death anyways so why was Lord Faren more serious about identifying parchment paper but not in rescuing the queen?

…Another example is JK Rowling who was unemployed while she wrote the Harry Potter series…

That is a good example of why the branching storyline does not work. Harry Potter was written linear with a beginning and an end. Gw1 was written linear with a beginning and an end. The branching storyline has too much focus, as Vanye said, on picking the writings that best meet the game developers needs, which is PG rated with quantity over quality.

If this game didn’t have a branching storyline the story would have been much better imo.

Amstel Steel.2058

Just to toss this out here… Guild wars was released in 2005 when the NAAL’s last statistical testing put the American public at a 8-9th grade reading comprehension level.

Since then we have seen numbers as low as (stupid censoring) 5th grade level, most analysis NAAL included putting us at 6-7th grade level. that is a huge difference. Perhaps its not laziness on Anet’s part?

It is possible the writing in video games is getting worse just like the reading level of recent best selling books have been going down, and for the same reasons. Just catering to the public.

That explains a lot concerning the amount of censorship on these forums. I see kitten so much I often wonder if it was actual profanity being used or if it was no no letters standing next to each other, or if it was really just a kitten. I wish Anet wasn’t trying to make this game as big as WoW considering mature players are suffering from the game being mostly PG rated, which shows in the story, but to be fair it is mostly because the quantity of the branching story diminishes it’s quality especially when it’s catering to the PG rated crowd.

Sometimes I think if only the storyline would drop an F bomb the writings would be so much less restrictive in the writing process.

I think the actual asura size doesn’t need to be changed if the animation size is normalized. Currently skills like skull crack are defeating the purpose of this game being visually reactive when it really becomes visually anticipating leading to rng and passiveness. Even if additional skill animations as well as travel times are made to better telegraph the ability to read them, they are currently vastly diminished due to being utilized on the smallest scale.

A good start as the stream said would be in having the asura size scale normalized in spvp seeing how there is no disadvantage in moving, dodging, or attacking while playing the smallest scale from the largest norn scale. Right now the smallest asura means the smallest animation to react to if the skills are even telegraphed in the first place.

From my experience as far as I know I don’t tend to see this that often. Matches are still landslides at times but still a lot of close fights from my pov.

Also there was this guy on my team that used auto run into a wall in home base to prevent from being dropped when in a match with talk of facing a premade. Either that or he had lagged out.

The title is misleading to the information. You make about 3 gold in under an hour and then sell the mats on a market that hasn’t had time to level itself off yet. I am assuming the lodestones are intended seeing as crafting will be raised to 500 in the future.

My only hope is that the gw2 story is less disney and more moral conflicts. Kiel was too good for my taste and felt that Evon was more human than the human. This is a perfect setup to kill off a character the community knows and cares about. Because Kiel has that disney white knight morality about her I simply can’t wait for her throat to get slit.

The story

I hear the story is generic filler with no actual thought behind the writings so I guess I am not missing nearly as much had this been gw1. Would the story in gw1 have even worked with the living book burning content that is in gw2?

I think I read Anet is rethinking on how to deliver their story and I really wish they get rid of the current cut scences. They are the same as the beta ones only they have an artistic backdrop panning around instead of the actual space the dialog is occuring in, which is strange because you get to see the quests occuring in real time, but not the story.

I guess there is still hope for Kiel to get her throat slit to make the story interesting if she wins.

I would love a well written movie titled The Searing.

The whole story about Ascalon and it’s downfall was probably one of the best parts of the original Guild Wars story. However, without a conclusion you wouldn’t have much of a movie. Just like in the game, the Searing is only what starts the actual adventure. The plot with the White Mantle, the Mursaat, and ultimately the Lich, is what it all boils down to. A bit much to fit in one movie. But where would you end it then?

A story circulating around the political, moral, and local issues from that pre searing era ultimately comes to a conclusion which is the Searing. The conclusion is the charr turning the tides of battle to reclaim their land. Much like how Avatar was concluded only darker and more tragic.

Edit: Now that I think about it Avatar was concluded with that guy becoming an actual cat. I’m sure there is some way to form a conclusion of some sorts. Any kind of gw1 movie would do best with telling a story that wasn’t in the actual gameplay. Like the point of view from the Charr’s and the morality behind the consolidation of the flame legion for a morally just cause while also being puppeted by a fallen god.

The Cauldron of Cataclysm is the gigantic cauldron that was given to the Charr by their false gods, the Titans. The Charr used the cauldron to perform the ritual of the Searing that breached the Great Northern Wall and damaged all of Ascalon. It is said that the magic powering the cauldron was older than even the Titans, powered by beings who had long ago fallen into sleep. There appears to be a copy of the Cauldron in the Crystal Overlook. Under orders of their own from Abaddon, the Titans told the Charr to invade the three human Tyrian kingdoms.” -wiki

gw2 is filled with gimmick mechanics, mcstealth is one of many. each gimmick mechanic simply shows a complete lack of developer knowledge in whatever area they’re supposed to cover. it’s not that stealth is impossible to counter, or even really that difficult once you learn what to expect, it’s that it’s that the implementation is so absurdly ridiculous and cheesy that it’s a complete turnoff. factor in all of the other gimmick mechanics that are likewise complete turnoffs, yet are mandatory to learn and deal with, and the overall attractiveness of the game plummets through the floor. what’s worse is that these gimmick mechanics are now infesting other games, which makes the overall outlook on the future of gaming quite bleak. fortunately, there are still companies that care about the integrity of their product, and won’t be copying the gimmick mechanics. however, that ship has long since sailed here.

As to this games stealth mechanic you hit the nail on the head. The degree in which the gimmick is applied makes it over the top for a lot of people while stealth in other games not so much.

I hate gimmicks. Like Shouts, banners, illusions, pets. Do away with all of these please.
I agree. Gimmicky mechanics conflicts with the players immersion.

lol at sarcasm. I was mostly referring to the part I had bolded, it’s not that stealth is impossible to counter, or even really that difficult once you learn what to expect, it’s that it’s that the implementation is so absurdly ridiculous and cheesy that it’s a complete turnoff.

This game has a high learning curve which makes a lot of people rage at stealth when it really isn’t hard or impossible to counter. I never said gimmicky mechanics are bad, especially in a fantasy mmo with little need to explain anything other than it was magic. But even with the “it was magic” explanation many people can’t seem to grasp that a class can stealth so many times in so short a time frame where the counter is to simply press the right button at the right place and time, hence conflicting with the immersion.

Colin replied and said that new regions are typically added through expansions. We have not made a decision yet on how to add new regions. New areas to the game will be added either through expansions or Living World. Colin said that some of those new areas will be based on the original Guild Wars, however he did not confirm any regions or go into any specifics.

I really hope you guys pick up the corporate box and shake it.

Personally, I don’t want an expansion if you guys feel you can pull it off by giving away an entire new region to promote gem sales. I don’t want new classes, no warden or marksman or juggernaut… I don’t think anyone knows what the 12th class you’ve considered but scrapped… If anything save that for like 6-8 years from now when the map is almost fully extended on as well as weapon skills, traits, and trait tiers etc.

New zones not in gw1 is very good to hear. You have so much to expand on with little need for an expansion.

Make HoM AP additive for rewards and subtractive from leaderboards. Or make 2 leaderboards. Or one leaderboard with a tab to do the calculations. Or devise the epitome of evil plans to have those points retracted in it’s entirety. [insert evil laugh]

To answer a question there needs to be a question mark. XD The achievement boost is intentional.

I find it eerie that it took 7 pages to change that, and worse yet 9 pages without one decent evil plan to take away those points. We need Frizz to hatch one to make this thread popcorn worthy. Something cruel and punishable with a high risk and a low reward. Something so diabolical that it would be on par with the Aetherblades nuking Loins Arch and erasing it into dust. [insert evil laugh]
