Why would you turn off the nice chitters from the Underworld? Now if you ment Bone minions/Jhorrors and the death emote by the pc, that i can agree.
That said, this is the same argument Ret Pallys had from vanilla WoW. The devs said that all classes couldn’t be dps classes. The players noted that paladins were the only ones that couldn’t. Also, nothing to do but autoattack.
I’d understand if we got a block or a mist form/endure pain-type power to keep with the tanky-clothy motif, but every other class has at least one way to disengage from a fight by leap, teleport, or stealth. What exactly is the devs’ intent?
I dont think that you should mention the rec bombs and cons field spammers as a good example of “lack of damage” since if i remember correctly for 3 hours they could reflect enough damage at Nefarian that he went from 100 to 5 in half a second (aka in GW2 they would be mesmers). The best 2 comparisons you can make for necros is either DK (being blood/op or frost/meh or made by someone on drugs) or Shammy (and with that i mean vanilla to TBC BT patch).
As for not having a disengage, again i honestly find it refreshing that they returned to the not everyone has to have everything in the same form, if necros had the numbers to outsustain people if they disengaged and re-entered the fight or if for example we could have a effect like ice armor while in DS, punishing people for spamming their attacks (even if we technically already have the damage reduction part in because kitten it its not like the devs should be honest about issues they have with coding DS).
Well, lore wise there are most certainly female liches, in fact iirc every lich we encountered in GW1 had a different appearance ( although not necessarily a unique appearance). There was also the lich costume from GW1 which of course had a distinct female appearance http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Raiment_of_the_Lich
That said, the Lich form skill is a bit fuzzy lore-wise, it seems more like we’re channeling the power of a lich than actually becoming a lich, or something. Regardless though to my knowledge no other transformation skills have alternate appearances based on gender or race.
Just add to the wiki link Undead_Lich, Palawa_Joko, Fendi_Nin and i think that Zoldark counts…
Either way same as D&D liches, both Palawa and Khilbron (and to a minor extent Mazdak the Accursed) all note that they left they physical bodies behind and live by extending their soul somewhere while consuming other souls for more power (kinda how we kill Khil and reversely rise Palawa to power with all the death going on). So no if a necro hits 30, spends points on Lich form, he is technically undead, maybe not in a typical sense since you wont be able to decay anymore, but death aint such a thing till your soul gets shattered by a bloodstone/something similar.
For Minor traits:
Good – Parasitic Bond, Target the Weak, Deathly Strength, Blood is Power, Last Gasp
Good but numbers need to be tweaked – Barbed Precision, Full of Life, Vampiric, Gluttony, Strength of Undeath (in current form of 10% LF turns into power, not a 5% boost over the random 50% LF).
Should be Major Trait – Death into Life, Furious Demise, Reanimator+PotH
Bad – Siphoned Power
5/5: Chill of Death, Chilling Darkness, Weakening Shroud, Terror, Lingering Curses, Death Nova, Transfusion, Deathly Invigoration, Unyielding Blast, Deathly Perception – All change the playstyle in interesting ways either improving specific proc times (Trans, DI, CoD), Influencing your positioning (WS, Trans, UB) or are actual traits you can build around/a core change of the way you approach fights (Terror, LC, CD, DP)
4/5: Spiteful Spirit, Close to Death, Focused Ritual, Spectral Attunement, Rituals of Protection, Shrouded Removal, Greater Marks, Nec Corruption, Mark of Evasion, Vampiric Precision, Fetrid Consumption, Vampiric Rituals, Path of Midnight, Near to Death, Master of Terror, Soul Marks, Foot in the Grave
All good choices, but either lacking in numbers (Vamp P, PoM, SA), lacking in uptime/impact (SS, FitG), a Tier to high (Vamp Rits Nec C, NtD) for current setup that is good, or plain ok but other factors limiting it (MoE, SR)
3/5: Spiteful Removal, Reapers Might, Spiteful Marks, Training of the Master, Hemophilia, Reapers Precision, Withering Precision, Dark Armor, Spiteful Vigor, Flesh of the Master, Ritual of Life, Vampiric Master, Quickening Thirst, Mark of Revival
Good idea bad execution, very nieche (so like pvp only/build limited which dont work everywhere), a bandaid or outslotted by a country mile/feels like randomly put in for no reason
2/5: Banshees Veil – sub par in CDR for no reason, Vital Persistence – utterly worthless, Speed of Shadows – Would have made sense if it was a 33% boost/swiftness on DS, not a bandage because you are to inept to code in Signets to work in DS
1/5: Deaths Embrace, Dhuumfire – Devs just trolling us
20% CDR traits werent included since they are staple, just as on cc do x ones.
Do you refer to anyone who is dead as neither male nor female? No you do not, nobody does, your gender is by all means retained as a part of your identity after your death. An undead is male or female just as it was when it was alive, and the current lich form is blatantly and obviously male even when used by a female caster, which makes no sense and is a huge lore trip up not to mention cosmetic let-down.
Depends on how much of your muscles are still in a state of decomposition, someone is male/female based on their working reproductive organs, so no dead is dead, undead is still dead but just moving/with a form of sentience from a source other than the brain and until a lich suddenly appears with "watermellons" or a "rooster" they are just as asexual as sylvari.
The fact that it rehashes norn male wireframe and bones has nothing to do with what it represents (or are gargoyles suddenly just rock dogs and gryphons, the elementals grubs and are aatxe and flesh golems suddenly bulls *ok the real worlds meaning of aatxe is a bull but thats beside the point, they are shadow demons/spirits for Tyria*).
You know, you can just press esc to break the animation and still “obey” the command, right? Also you get free points for ghosts spamming it.
I don’t know what modern games have you participated in, but in old school d&d casters can use at least 1 weapon without any penalties at lvl 1.
You won’t need 2 secs for aa. By that logic, pistols would take like 10 secs. Totally nonsense.
Crossbows are as epic as any other weapon in gw2. Go ask any demon hunter in Diablo 3.
Not ranged or exotic ones, you started off with -10 because you couldnt pick up bow proficiency, but that doesnt matter since bows and slings were kinda op at early levels for a reason to allow weaker classes to get the 4-6 levels they needed to get their school and/or craft setup. If you continued to use bows post your (in this case necromancy) specialization or after turning into a pale master as a sorc, you got a -20 on it even if you for some reason went and picked up the weapon specs for bows because you are a arcane or divine profession using a weapon without arcane/divine properties, hell as a pally n blackguard you needed special ammo not to pretty much kill your own party or in best case scenario shoot a little bug at the enemies feet.
Also please dont use that game as a point of comparison, go one step back for true dungeon crawling.
Also GW2 has quite advanced tech which includes having a real magazine, but even by real world standards a crossbow would require 4 times the loading time than a simple barrel load. And dont even get me started on the handling of repeater crossbows which would be a 2man 2 handed weapon.
1. Liches are technically asexual, kinda like your sylvari, despite what the basic looks indicate so no its actually good attention to detail from em.
2. Only complaint i can have about it is why we dont have skins for it *like Baelfire skin for charr or raven skin for Norn or mech/golem skin for Asura, using the reaper look is kinda… meh if you are on a non human (since the lich skin was kinda first titled as “reaper of grenth” and he shares it with the reaper of the ice wastes who we summon during the personal story).
We’re not supposed to have a lot of mobility. At most we get swiftness, otherwise all of our “mobility” skills are designed solely to chase, or create distance while in a fight, but not leave it completely.
A lack of mobility means death in a pvp environment, mobility is king. We are the easiest of any class to be trained on, people can stick to us like glue and you all know this.
this doesnt matter to bawb he would rather parrot what he heard a dev say than think for himself.
Yeah, I think it’s better for the devs and bawb to talk with walls. At least, they will get it: they will not waste their time asking for something that will never happen. Sometime this community is so stuborn, it’s not even funny anymore. Again, if you feel mobility is king in pvp, I think it’s time to ask yourself if necromancer really suit your playstyle.
Ok true that Bhawb (and Bas when he still played) kinda do come of as big trolls and/or “your” annoying stepfather who tells you to go to sleep at 6 when you are used to being up to 10, but the point still actually stands:
“What part of i like being a mighty glacier and dont want mobility do you not understand?” Mobility plain aint a thing of the necro and while the attrition subject is very very lacking and a lot of questionable defensive choices have been made, dont make another dhuumfire incident (necros didnt need more burst, necro got more burst, everything else got nerfed hard, same will happen just replace burst with mobility).
Damage and survivability are completely seperate issues
Excuse me? Damage and survivability are two sides of the same coin. If you add to one, you need to substract at the other. Otherwise you end up with an unbalaced class, and God knows we have enough of those issues already :P
Not really, you have at least 4 sides to each character, str, dex, cons and int or in the case of MMOs: Damage, Mobility, Effective HP and Cooldowns & Cast times.
It all depends on if ANet wants necros to be the Cho’Gaths or Aatrox’s. I’d be happy with either, really.
Aatrox, Vlad, and Swain put forward so many ideas for ways to add in meaningful (and not OP) siphoning into the game too.
Vlad and (to a much lesser extent) Aatrox are one trick ponies of it, Cho/Swain are a much better concept, since they rely on cc (fear) and slows (chill) to deny enemy damage while being tanky monsters with exponentially increasing effective hp also they are true aoe in their main dps (staff wells, etc)
The Grandmaster trait being one condition option makes it so a full damage Necro is incapable of also having major defenses (only at most 20 traits left over, instead of 50), and that is good. We’re also very hybrid by nature, so power hardly hurts.
20 points left, huh where should we put it, oh yeah A-net butchered necro 1vx to make Sarmor op in 1v1 and Swalk worthless unless exploring, maybe a second Sarmor(crippled Ignore Pain) might give me a lot of free defensive options.
Dhuumfire really has nothing to do many complaints about necro alot of it is more ignorance. Many people think all necro’s are condis because alot of necro attacks have some kind of condi modifier on it and deathshroud has condis regardless of the build.
People will always call for nerfs regardless.
Every legitimate complaint about Necros (and there are some) have to deal with Dumbfire in some way.
That and devs position to necros being like a herpetologist trapped in a room with a poison snake, you can not feed it, it bites you, you can feed it, but if you feed it salad it will bite you, you can feed it dead meat, it will starve, you need to get the rodents for it to kill and nom on to get the anti-venom you need without it trying to bite anything (but it will still bite you when you manhandle it).
Don’t think you got what I was saying Andele: if the conditions are cleansing off me, then it must have hit, right? I’m just wondering why they don’t always properly transfer despite being cleansed!
Think of it the same as how putrid marks blast finisher works, if you drop it in a fire field, but noone procs it, its still charged with the fire field and the combo will proc if a enemy blocks/invuls the actual explosion. So if you manage to send the “plague signet projectile” off to a enemy and it “connects” (isnt evaded or LOSed) and not into the ground, you got cleansed, now if it actually hits the enemy is another question.
Its a projectile, anything that blocks projectiles will block it too (used to be same with Corrupt boon till it got turned unblockable, but it can still be stopped by a medium sized barren that doesnt obstruct you seeing the enemy in any real way).
Also no matter how funny it is, blinds did work against it (not sure if they still do).
Undead, but in a general choice for necro you can always go 2 MK, 2 Lyssa and 2 Lich/Nightmare with the Superior Sigil of Malice and get 30% (with 30 in spite and pizza/coi its 100 cond duration which is really useful on recent bosses) since QJ.
But note that setup is like the recommended items in lol, works as a basic line, but the better you get and the more you specialize the worse it seems/is in its potential efficiency value.
Something also to think of are the new Sunless runes which if you are a norn necro are the best terrormancer runes (wink wink wolfy).

We’re not supposed to have a lot of mobility. At most we get swiftness, otherwise all of our “mobility” skills are designed solely to chase, or create distance while in a fight, but not leave it completely.
well that’s …dumb.
It made sense in the right context, problem is the context got lost when the game was translated from beta to release.
I don’t know, but I’d be happy to remove the 25 point Blood Trait and replace it with the 30 point trait that removes conditions by pets. With a slight change:
Or plain, allies in 600 range are healed for – insert number around 50 that scales with your hp – each time you siphon life.
P.S. despite how funny it is, i think that more softcore will get the thread closed.
(edited by Andele.1306)
Yeah the Transfusion trait is pretty good now, I have to say! Pity we can’t heal ourselves with it. The most obvious use I can see for it is for a minionmancer to heal their minions, but unfortunately there’s far better traits for MMs to take in that same attribute line…
Drop to under 4% LF, use transfusion, watch the numbers both heal you, 5 other people and fill your life force.
No GS, no Hammer, no mace.
Scythe and Crossbow for my necro please!
Sctythe: melee, cleave, gap closer, chill, combo finishers, high lf gen.
Crossbow: cripple, bleeds, weakness, gap generator, summon jagged horrors.no to crossbow, that will simply ruin everything about what a bow stands for, it doesn’t even fit the necro one bit.
crossbow it’s the weapon of choice of several casters on several fantasy role playing games, since you don’t need a lot of strength to use it, opposite to a bow. I definitely see necros, eles and mesms using crossbows as ranged weapons.
I don’t see how a crossbow hurt your feeling for bows. They are totally different concepts.
Actually, no it isnt, hell all classes that have a school or specialization get a -2 penalty (aka additional 20% failure rate) on using non-arcane/school based projectiles after they got a decent amount of levels (hell you need not 2 traits like for melee weapons but 4 or even 5 in case of being a sorcerer to able to use it without having a chance to poke out your own or your allies eyes).
Also Crossbows dont really make sense in the GW universe since everyone is kinda a ripped adonis or awesomeness, so the reason why crossbows were created (to allow people without years of training and physical strength of a bull able to shoot from range for 3-5 hours of a siege). Also would you really want a 2~ second long cast time on auto attacks?
It would be cool to have a crossbow bow skin that uses the rifle animations (like one of the next legendaries hint hint wink wink nudge nudge) trough.
I use hydromancy and force.
BTW necromancers are not vampires
Well the other quarters of necros that aint fascinated with dead rats and black ghost sperm or making foes suddenly have multiple diseases and/or symptoms you get from old age were technically all weird puppet monster teleportation thingys (the original wells and all skills that didnt fit into one of the easy to explain why sections) or bloodsuckers (aka your Doctor, your Lawyer or a pesky and very touchy mosquito).
+1 for the les yay.
And in my opinion, it should plain be the same as in a few quite older RPGs, hard tied to either how you build (so all stats influence how you siphon) or be tied to resources (wink wink nudge nudge turn vampiric into siphon more the less LF you got).
a) ITS A SKIN not even a full item
b) Why not, legacy skins were a constant thing in GW, GW2 shouldnt be a special exception because casual trash
c) How could it ruin the FABULOUS banter between MK and Bloody pewee Eddie?
No kidding.
The whole blood line is worthless, pretty much the whole death line is worthless.
Food does Blood magic better than traits do.
Ritual of Life, Transfusion & DI (very good team support), Well Cooldowns (bigger dps boost than going 30 into power) and if it worked correctly (as in didnt have a cooldown like most dodge skill drops) MoD are all good.
Guess they realized that +3 bleed ticks if they ran, didn’t stop anyone from running. So they threw a immobilize on it so we couldn’t say it did nothing. But put a cast time & only ‘hug distance’ on that, with a big broadcast spell effect so other class’s wouldn’t be affected.
It’s actual use, more condi padding added with burning to have no counter by cleansing, giving us a cheap & unfair spec for PvP.
Problem is adding a cast time makes it useless in defensive situations since… well you dont really go ham on a necro unless you know you got 2-3 hard cc.
only 17%?
guess MMO players didn’t grow up in those 8 months
It also got moved from Adept to Master and its a 25% nerf since it lost 17% base damage on scaling, so if you got any other condition on the enemy (which is like 99% of the times when you should use fears on terrormancer) you the nerf took 1/4 of your damage.
Its a bit more than 5 times. And yeah its fairly strong. Im not entirely sure its worth the cast time though. It doesnt crit and its no where near as strong as fiery rush and bear form.
14 times to be precise each mini aoe able to hit up to 5 targets, same as GS whirls, rushes and charges. I still hope that that kitten gets fixed like Death Blossom and Cleaves got fixed to a finite amount of targets possible to hit (as in max one hit pre ability pre second).
It was kinda clearly designed as a zoning and control ability (i wonder what idiot gave it a cast time and such a cooldown), point is enemies get on you, you cast it, they take basic damage, if they dont move they get the weakest of hard ccs, if they do they take some damage. Its a lot like Dark Binding Morgana has in LoL or Pucks (aka cheater sperm thing that is NOT a real dragon) Dream Coil from Dota.
Before patch tainted shakles were hitting enemies twice. The first one after casting it, the second one after the delay is running out.
Now they only do damge after the delay. But i guess this is how it was intended. Therefor it´s a fix, which decreased our dmg output a little bit
Noone used Tshackles for damage, its for the immob/zone control/condition cover.
Honestly i wouldnt call him evil as much as i would a utterly insane omnicidal maniac with a eating disorder that will cause people to mistake him for a Brit.
The question is just as weird/worthless as asking if Cthulhu, Shoggy or Hastur are evil, beings that ascend to demigodhood with a perspective on reality that is unthinkable to us just falls under something entirely different.
I think someone posted the following link during the last “balance” patch. Because I needed a laugh and something to cheer me up over the disappointment of this latest fiasco, I link it here for your amusement (the section on Shamans has special relevance):
Funny, i posted Crendogs video when they removed the DS absorb.
You’re a player that does not have thousands of players looking to them for the correct information. I would take most of what they say with a grain of, if not more, salt at this point.
I too forget that all devs are infallible, and couldn’t possibly make a small mistake doing an unscripted short show.
I mean it wasn’t even like they called it something ridiculous, its Blood thirst to Blood lust, even the parts that are different are similar.
Its not like they denied the following at one point in the past: Wurm being a shadowstep not a teleport, DS was taking more damage than normal hp in defensive gear, DS has a cooldown on right side bar if you get kicked out of it, weapon sigils applied to kits/effects (like offhands not working in ds for a month, even if you should only be in ds using staff), terror not dealing damage on fear immune targets, CB failing over half the time, Plague Signet working correctly and not copying conditions AND downed hp being 30% of the intended value.
Lets not even mention the amount of things we needed to point out to get a reply: oh thats intended/we wont change it back despite not saying anything on patch notes.
Krait Obelisk is the cover image for the next update, there are Krait in Kessex, Kas and Jory looking for some tail, a town and ruins were flattened with the earth.
Guys, cooldown on DS exist still exists, just it no longer procs randomly when manually leaving ds.
Putrid is still just 3 conditions and marks still go on full cd on interrupt/swap.
(edited by Andele.1306)
Personal numbers for vampiric: 28-42 now 35-40, as said before, no change to my build just made bloodthirst worse.
Post-Patch test, Lifeforce true amount appears unchanged.
As far as I can tell we take half damage in DS or something close that. Eat 10,000 damage from mob only about 5k actually lost in DS display.
Strange. DS doesn’t seem to alter our armor in any way or form…
It has a internal Damage modifier to turn it into the % value of life force.
(edited by Andele.1306)
Oh thank god i have the gift of souls recipe already and the material requirements for it hasnt changed.
I read the description of the “Tyria’s Best Nougat Centers” and got scared when it said “Used in the creation of Gift of Souls”, so i thought i need them to make the gift. The original recipes are disabled
Nope they arent, my gift of souls recipie (used/learned one) from last year is still ori, ecto, gift and Crystal L and can be crafted.
Life force used to be bugged where necros had far less life force capacity than we were supposed to have. I remember it as 60% less! Is my mind playing tricks on me?
Downed hp not life force.
I would rather have a scythe but since those don’t exist in this game, I’ll settle for a Greatsword because Twilight is the only remotely Necroy legendary.
Dont know, both bolt (those are mini zhaitany dragons on it) and frostfang (ice stuff) are kinda okish.
I’ve tested life force as well with damage from attacks, conditions or falling damage. And I even got close to 140% without any points Soul Reaping. The armor value has nothing to do with it.
And that can mean 3 things:
- The displayed lf in the video is correct and we’re looking at a nerf that will take almost 30% of our current hp away.
- The displayed lf in the video is too low and we’re going to see a tooltip fix in the future.
- The displayed lf and the value calculated by the players is correct, that would mean that there is a bug that reduces all dmg taken in DS by 50%, which effectively means double the value.
Our old test values were 119% of hp.
Remember conditions can proc between on lf degen/kinda be wasted or tick for more % than it actually is dealing and fall damage can change just by a pixel difference.
yet a dev told us specifically .
The Devs literally just called Bloodthirst “Bloodlust”. I’m not sure how close to law their word actually is, regardless of whether it is their game or not.
To be fair i call it bloodlust too, but yeah devs dont have a good track record of being honest, but they usually fix stuff within 2-4 months of it getting out of hand on the forums.
Well, full life force vs 1 other is kinda strong.
Its strong if you got the current Sarmor/15SR trait.
a) Transfusion and DI were ok even before in selfish use, allowing builds that want additional sustain but not go a full out siphon build, it unlocked a new slot
b) Shenhua if you mean across all 5 targets then yeah you got about 0.9~1k bonus damage
A hypothesis i have is that DS itself has some weird interaction with Armor just how it has with HP, since before the first “fix”/change it if you had a defensive armor, you would actually take more damage than normally, but if you had a full glass cannon, you took less damage, then it was fixed, but now it could be that while the damage delt is the same, but it has a internal multiplier that reduces it when its transitioned into life force, but whats funny its actually the funny thing is that (when you lets say hit a fish head in sparkfly, it barely reduces your DS to 40% in soldier while almost killing you/you fall to 2k~ hp).
You can tell the ranger to not use his pet until you fill your ds, or something like that, and hear his excuses about it.
Better comparison is disable warrior from building adrenaline and mesmers unable to use clones for shattering.
Full clerics necro in PvE? (Dungeon content etc). Dev healed for 3k aoe with life transfer using soldiers.
It already heals for about the amount…
Facts about necro: We were broken with perma protection pulsing wells, stability and a 50% damage reduction that gave LF, ALL of those were nerfed, Spectral defensive in 1vx was nerfed, damage from condi builds is kinda stupid with dumbfire being a additional cover.
Shade needs to return or DS cd needs to go down to 5 seconds (3 if traited)., spectrals should get back to their 3% pre hit with infinite times in a second/no icd, dumbfire go away, fix staff, CB and Epi need to be equalized more/turned less of a situational but stupidly strong (or in case of cb useful against only half the professions) into good general use.
Also please give us a ice field or two via traits, ds jumping and weapon swap in ds back(personal wishes ofc)~
Shhh :P the Dungeon sub-forum will kill u if they find out you’re planning to wear clerics in dungeons hehe
You mean a group of angry little boys in zerker gear playing half naked male warrior gs norns because they totally aint trying to hide and overcompensate for something?
(edited by Andele.1306)
I think it should be restored to pre-nerf status (after the 50% buff and before the last damage nerf), and they should remove burning from the Spite tree.
You didn’t answer the mans question…
It did, terror is hard countered by both stun breaks and stability, necro “op” status comes from dhuumfire being added for no freaking reason.
Agree with Rennoko, I think terror is good but I don’t think it is GM worthy. I don’t think lingering curses and withering precision are GM worthy.
a) Everyone is on it with Ren to remove dumbfire or change it (plz comething “cool” wink wink nudge nudge cough chill field/pulse on ds cough), it also makes no sense for dungeons.
b) Lingering curses is in every way GM worthy, it changes the entire concept of how a condi mancer builds and plays.
