I hate the hammers and torches in this game.
GS or bust.
Although I’d settle for dual wielding shields or being able to use my spear on land.
Hates hammer, wants something impossible for fighting… yeah just kitten any kind of little logic the game does have.
CPC is good on specialized weapon/one trick pony builds that dont rely at all on utilites, problem is the 2 builds like that (secondary condi builds/tank/support stuff using cond duration and mass single target power builds) have either constant application of poison and weakness or other skills cover their weaknesses better/zerkers work better with self buffs rather than weakening the enemy.
The 2 things id love to see for it would be if it “plagued” the target till either their endurance falls under 10% or it ticks off (so you enter the aoe, each time it ticks it refreshes a debuff with 5 stacks, each time when a stack falls off you get weakened and poisoned).
There is no point, people said Axe 3 doesn’t hit hard, but it does.
Talk is about Axe 2, Axe 3 is ther for the retal and boon removal and is awesome already/would be really strong if reduced to a 3/4 cast time (what i personally find the optimal cast time for necro skills, longer than the typical 1/2, but not so long that even a lazy person like myself can interrupt it without actually paying attention).
And for wvwvw, why is anyone even talking about power vs condi, condi for zerging and attacks (because epidemic and carts), power for defense (wells n chill plague), easy.
Ghastly claws doesnt hit hard at all.
Mine does 7-9k
A scepter 3 with 5+ condi does the same amount on crit in hybrid builds (ok it might scale a bit too strong with power and damage pre condition for a skill on a condi weapon), sooo your point is?
15k is a reasonable “hard hit” from a channel skill in any kind of offensive power build, if you get under 10k damage on a power build with your “bursts”, you are better off doing a condi build with consistent 4~6k dps from poison and bleeds since you can multiply it by 5 with a decent epidemic and do insane stuff on some of the new bosses without defiant via terror builds.
Umm, so does Ghastly Claws. Sure, YOU can’t see the target, but it still hits them. Being true projectiles is frequently a downside due to the amount of projectile-hate in the game.
Smite: Unpredictable at best, given that each strike hits a tiny location inside that area. Works well for Lupicus and other really big targets, not so well for much else.
Pheonix: Less damage, though more utility. also, a 20 second cooldown is not short, so it’s really irrelevant to the conversation.
Rapid Fire: one of the few skills that does have the advantages I listed. Vulnerability to projectile hate is evened out by the finisher chance and vulnerability stacks. I recall it rooting you in place, but I will check again.
Volley: Not much to comment on here. It certainly has the advantages I listed and does so from longer range with more damage.
Unload: The other skill that also has the advantages I listed. Still weaker than Ghastly Claws.
So, I don’t see how you disputed my point, there. I did say “over most”, so the fact there is really only two skills that hit harder and has the advantages I listed doesn’t make me any less correct. However, those skills all do have superior range. This is more of a weakness of the axe not being sure if it’s really supposed to be a ranged weapon or not.
Ghastly claws has a angle of around 60, true projectiles have more than double of it (so strafing doesnt weaken your skill just as much, but true you can negate projectiles in a just as easy way).
Smite is kinda situational true with the same weakness as GC, but overall will do the same damage in a pvp fight and more in most pve fights. And doesnt require channels
You know that ph hits a total of 3 times, projectile going out, explosion, projectile going back, with not only a higher power ratio, but less retaliation damage taken and gives not just more utility but flat out being a better skill since it covers your defensive needs. But that argument be countered by higher cd which is true (but i dont really think that cds really matter on a ele either way in most cases).
RF allows movement during cast (its barrage that roots you).
Overall i just wanted to point out that there are skills that are overall better in at least 2 points over GC/that GC doesnt have a real advantage in comparison to other skills and that there are way harder hitting similar skills at range (also a zerker unload does around the same damage as a GC).
Axe #2 has three major advantages over most hard-hitting skills: it has a short cooldown, is ranged, and it doesn’t lock you in one place.
Not to pop your bubble but…
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Phoenix
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Smite
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rapid_Fire
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Volley
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Unload
Yeah, GC is only stronger than the last entry on the line… But even so the last 3 have the advantage of being true projectiles thus always seeking the thing you targeted if they are in a 140~ cone.
I feel it’s like a mesmer starting with all of its clones, or a warrior with full adrenaline… if we’re gonna try to compare classes lol.
Difference is, they can use utility skills to do that for free, we can get the inditial ds running, but not in such a reliable way as they can. But that aint the problem, the real problems with DS is a) Flat LF generation b) CC/self drain of DS c) No healing in it/from it.
I posted this way before multiple times, just making LF generation scale with your current LF% would be optimal, over 70% LF i rarely need or want more big LF generation, but the 0-30 is a pain in the butt (especially since low LF is no longer a ok thing/usable as a small shield in trade of the damage and utility DS gives).
Problem is, too many multi hit skills/pulsing skills/etc, for short too much kitten that you cant control (unlike basic auto attacks against which retal was designed) in terms of hitting a enemy. It would get something like a internal cooldown if it got returned to old/bigger values.
They changed it due to bad ‘collision detection’ in game. Think they said something about WvW being able to do it thru walls/hills.
All non projectile ranged skills go trough objects/structures and non terrain collision structures (like hylek harpy and ogre huts/objects in game that can be hit with vampiric but have no targeting or real hp), but epidemic was kinda too strong with what used to happen when people wanted to repair walls/doors. Its no excuse to why a lot of similar skills didnt get the same treatment, but kinda understandable.
Dont care which but a 2 handed melee (as in irl melee, it can be used at range if the devs want) weapon would be cool, but offhand axe (defensive offhand) and dual wielding normal swords (tanky/cc weapon that would offset/be a spear counterpart of the D/WH combo) with a ice field and mobility skill on offhand.
Wow, such an aggressive conversation that is not even on the topic, which is new ranger pet skins…
As per Zhaitan, risen are his minions, this doesn’t make him a risen. It would be like saying a necromancer is undead (when they are very much alive) or an elementalist is made of whatever element they raise into an elemental minion, which is absurd. Now, whether or not he is, is something that could be debated til everyone is blue in the face and we’ve gotten nowhere, but as to the “he raises them thus he is one of them” arguement, it just doesn’t work.
As to the topic on hand, I have no rangers atm, although it’ll be the next profession I get after I finish out my current 5 (guardian, thief, and elementalist remaining), so I really do not know what the situation on pets is.
All player necromancers that got all their elites in GW2 are undead, Lich form yo.
(For Zhai – http://images.mmorpg.com/images/galleries/formatted/152012/9fa389d1-c245-4216-a6cc-44b2d0443c1c.JPG)
For Bmoa and Rphoenix you really have to be stupid not to understand the concepts of evolution and what the Lazarus tax is on extinct animals (also no extinction means that we/a dominant and sentient pecies has no known record of a life form being… well alive anywhere anymore, not that they are deleted from existence and record).
By the way a species (that used to be “extinct” before they got discovered again) being bred and found nowhere else is something i gave you examples of above and is one of the prime things that state the rare status of it.
For a last comment before i send a few reports, if you read but dont understand whats written (or develop weird headcanon about it that makes no sense in any way), you might not wanna use what you read as a weapon since it tends to backfire.
BTW… sylvari are not asexual… they are either male or female and have all functional male or female parts depending on gender… the one difference is that they don’t reproduce by sex so they don’t see gender as a restriction when it comes to love (and sex).
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/races/sylvari/
http://gaygamer.net/2011/10/interview_guild_war_2s_ree_soe.html
http://www.wartower.de/artikel/artikel.php?id=651
By all accounts they are asexual in a sense of reproduction, everything that might look like a organ used for reproduction and/or raising children are there for looks/other reasons. Even if 2 sylvari have “sex” its more like 2 plants mixing their roots for a while or humans holding hands (since we know that unlike animal races their bark/skin is all the same in terms of pain).
That is also exactly the reason why they find other races funny and backwards, by not having a gender they cannot acknowledge that there are differences between males and females in other races, just as they dont understand why its shameful to walk around nude/they do shiz because of respect of other races not because its their nature.
So Scarlet had sex with The Mad King and out came The Bloody Prince ?
He’s their son ? Oh man, if that’s true it’s gonna be the best Halloween ever !
a) Thats not how (fast) sex works (even if a sylvari knowing what it feels to be prego would probably explain why she went nuts just as well as the short story)…
b) Interspecies doesnt work in GW
c) Scarlet is a asexual plant, MK is a eternal (possibly bit demonic-godly) spirit, even if point b would work they couldnt do it
Casters with hammer is just lol. Will never happen and I’m glad.

Do i have to constantly remind you people of there are no weapon limitations?Do i have to constantly remind you that this is GW2? I have never seen a necromancer strong enough to wield a hammer.. or one to ever want it, lore-wise.

Excuse me lore master, but since when is Devona a necromancer?
lol
She once used to have a necromancer touch spell to transfer conditions, along with her 7 warrior skills. But another time she had 2 assassin skills. So is Devona a thief?
And Swords aren’t hammers. I’d like swords for nec and I think it could be possible.
@Bhabw, yes in GW1 you could wield anything, but some things just didn’t make sense. This is one of those things.
Pre searing, uses necro skills; GWEN, again necro skills. Yeah she is a necro and assassin by secondary profession.
And no but if you can carry a sword (a giant stick of metal) you can carry a weight on a stick.
Also no secondary professions do very well make sense, or is it that in your world if you can do one thing you cannot do anything else? So for example since your can probably eat breathe and as seen not only use the net but also type, you probably dont know how to go to the toilet or ride a bike, etc.
Also, please, if you cannot use your brain or at least hold to tropes about fantasy settings, dont play anything that includes interaction with other humans, it will make the internet a better place.
There is a lore reason against it: gargoyles are presumed to be extinct.
So were Black Moas and Rainbow Phoenixes.
No they weren’t. Black Moas were originally presumed a myth, but proven real (though “native” to the Echovald – in that one had to bring a moa to the Echovald for the dark nature of the petrified forest to twist it).
Rainbow Phoenixes were just extremely rare and legendary… in lore. Never presumed extinct AFAIK.
“Extremely rare” is the definition of a species being at the point of extinction, just how black moas were extinct everywhere but in Echovald (aka they are currently at extinct in GW2 by all known records), Gargoyles are extinct on Tyria right now (we know that they are in the Underworld so they aint eradicated from histoy, so just as the other 2 examples they fall under the Lazarus taxon of extinction) and just how black softshell turtles and the syllwhatever-their-tongue-twist-name giant tortoises are in the wilderness of the planet Earth.
Seriously when will the common stop being the least used of all senses?
Torment on a #1 skill seems horriby overpowered.
Because its not like bleeds or burning on 1 skill chains exist~
…
only on winds of chaos? 1s burning (or maybe vuln; yay randomness)…… but i dont see how torment on AA chain is OP
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sever_Artery
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/GashWouldnt really be any more op than warrior sword. Just lower the duration and its balanced.
i dont see the correlation between what i posted (you quoted) and what you posted… unless you missed the bolding?
You kinda mistook the original meaning, fact is that there are slot 1 no cooldown skills/basic attacks (on ele mesmer, warrior, thief, ranger and engie) that apply either bleed or burning.
There is a lore reason against it: gargoyles are presumed to be extinct.
So were Black Moas and Rainbow Phoenixes.
MK is a pimp and half, he was married 8 times and looking royal families trough history you have to triple that number for the times he… did the candy corn dance.

Have 50%+ cond duration (kinda core on all necro builds that aint exclusive power dps/burst builds), get a hydromancy sigil, flip flop between chillblains, hydro and dark path = permachill.
the throw does no damage?
must have been a new patch then.
If it does deal damage, its so tiny that i didnt notice/aka weaker than its wet noodle auto attack. It does deal damage if you fall into electricity ofc but thats the electricity not the throw.
And so on. Every time I have to stop and type, and retype, and retype what to do for the people who are still learning this, it takes time and adds to frustration, and as a glassy ele, I die. I don’t mind helping, but it adds a ton of time.
VoIP would help tremendously. Before picking at this old scab, I know, I know A-net doesn’t want to do it, people fear little kids singing into headsets, etc. I’m just pointing out why it probably seems more difficult than other dungeons.
The other dungeons do not require this kind of coordination.
The dungeon isn’t hard, it’s communicating with thick-headed, inexperienced players. This dungeon highlights the general skill level—lack of skill—of your random PUG. I imagine that guilds on Mumble/TS/etc scream through this.
One other consideration: Some of us need to really start making use of the kick tool. If you’ve instructed a newer player to do X, Y times, and he still doesn’t do it, it might be time for him to go. I know it sucks, but there’s trying and failing (ok, we’ll get there), and just not paying attention / being dense.
Or just force people/lock them out of dungeons and fractals till they pass a simple solo test run where they have to actually read whats written under the mobs, you know like the introduction into PvP tutorial (but please only once pre account not pre character).

Yeh, they did make it 100% your Max life, not 66%. They also stopped direct dam, doing double damage to DS.
(They also fixed the half downed life than other class’s, gave us access to brake stun on choices of buttons, and not with 90sec CDs. Which helped bring us up to par a bit more, tho there’ a newish bug where Putrid Mark doesn’t remove condi from allie & only a few from yourself, which killed off our ‘role’ others can’t do.)
Oh yeh, 50% crit on DS rocks, particularly with wells! Can easily be flipped over to ‘3 sec stability on DS’ tho nurfed from perm stability while in DS, also saves ya bum in chain CC situations. If they give us some sort of endurance regen, so we can avoid ‘1shot kill’ as often as other class’s, well be better off.
It was closer to 60% of hp and they didnt fix the change where DS has some weird innate armor (which used to overwrite your toughness bonus making glass cannons tankier and anything with toughness as a secondary weaker than intended) which they now increased a bit (so soldier, cleric, rabid, etc dont lose EHP in ds) and just doubled the base hp to LF transition (which we know is around 117% now, and with around i mean like a 117.03 or 116.93 or something stupidly small like that).
Dont get me wrong we are now way tankier in 1v1 and against basic hits, but it nerfed all 1vx potential and big hits and my precious DS jumping (which with Spectral skill nerfs was/is plain too much, i wouldnt complain if they just nerfed spectrals to their current form).
BTW FitG is kinda just as laggy as getting kicked out of DS/DS running out and doesnt instantly apply Stability (your skills have to actually flip to ds, not just your hp bar and green ui effects), rare but still happens (just how the 1 second lag on exit used to be way back in the days).
And regarding epidemic, imo one of the (if not the single) most powerful skills ingame – enormous damage output potential for pressing one button on really low cd is not really something that needs to be altered or made instant cast. The spell singlehandedly wins fights – again, for pressing one button…
Best regardsIt was said way back in beta, Epi and CB need to be: unblockable (they are now), 1/2 cast time (one instant one too long vs cleanses), both on a 25~30 sec cooldown (remember epi used to spread to everything and should again) and not be projectiles.
I wouldn’t pair CB and Epi, as they have evolved differently since Beta.
All that has really happened to CB since beta is that it seems to hit more reliably now (still as super fast projectile), still not instant yet has no cast time, it become unblockable, and it no longer removals all boons (caps at 5).
After Beta, Epi was was “unavoidable”… meaning it would always hit, never miss, it was IMPOSSIBLE to miss (blind had no effect on it). Now it is unblockable, but avoidable through various means including dodging/blinding, which is fine. It DOES currently spread everything, so I am not sure what that comment is suppose to mean?
I would welcome a slight increase to cooldown for a decrease to cast time (as much as 10-15 seconds longer). A 1 second cast time is prohibitive to landing the skill. Oddly, with a full second required to cast, you sort of have to cast and “hope”… because in that 1 second time you cannot do anything to prevent them from avoiding (they break fear and then dodge roll – no epi). 1/2 second would make that window much smaller.
Or my personal favorite, revert epidemic to how it used to work (never misses), and allow players to dodge roll/invuln to avoid the spread part, which is currently impossible to avoid. Takes the onus of avoidance off the shoulders of 1 and puts it on the 5 that are really in danger.
Just to note a few things, If you dodged during the initial cast and during the end of it (so only thief or ranger) epi would “fail” even before, Cast when invul wouldnt copy any non damaging conditions and its projectile could have been blocked (animation would run no matter what and reflects did nothing, but projectile destructions would stop its spread) and It ignored most terrain/los (so forts, objects and non land/base map based models). So no it wasnt such a never fail thing, but was op for wvwvw (thus the nerf to just unblockable) and with spread to everything i mean its old version that isnt capped to 5 people, but would spread condis to everything around the target (so a zerg stupid enough no swarm on the grub would just melt like they used to, just for the fun factor).
Casters with hammer is just lol. Will never happen and I’m glad.

Trash mobs should be just ‘Mobs’, not trash. Dev don’t design monsters and skin for let the player call them ‘trash mobs’.
A dungeon is a mix of mobs and bosses, and it should be calibrate in both parts. This dungeon…It’s a SAB in a non-cubic world.
Fight are too easy and bosses are just a living puzzle. If you know the solution you’ve done it!
Especially the final boss, which has not enought health…it’s really easy to take him down.Plus, his multiple Aoe doesn’t kill you…Take Arah for examples… Mobs are more difficult, and bosses are much more challenging even if you know the strategy to beat them (But depending of which path).
Also, the original AetherBlade dungeon was much more difficult. I missed the 15-20 bleeding stack from mobs and Mia, or the cannon balls.
a) http://www.wowwiki.com/Trash_mob – since it references its EQ origin
b) Yes they do, its their job, thats how dungeons are made, interesting bosses that pose a challenge and some trash in between so that players dont fall asleep, but have time to gather up some “strength” for the next boss.
c) THAT IS THE DEFINITION OF GOOD DESIGN (SAB2 not included since it was kittened up as hell/they did it for a money kitten pull instead of the passion project it was and ofc the hitboxes were all wrong and half of the forced animations didnt work/skills boke), if you know it you can beat it, hp doesnt matter, its nothing, 0, nix, void, naught. As long as the players have a actual challenge instead of sitting, around spamming their face on keyboards and exploiting bad boss design to roll trough bosses dont get the true origins and meaning of a dungeon, all games will die off like wow just is with casuals ruining it by nerfing stuff like release Cata dungeons.
Also kittening Arah isnt a example of difficult design, its a example of unfair design. Ok stuff like the Grenth Wraith and Dwayna boss are ok, but the entire dungeon has clear favourites (same as fractals) in terms of profession.
For AR, yeah it was hard, but i hope that you know that Mai has less hp than a Risen Eye, right? The duration of the fight depends on how skilled the team is at kiting, positioning and dodge/cc (to stop the killshots).
Lots of suggestions here would make us far too strong. Necro is more than viable in all PvP and WvW related settings. Additionally we are one of the most versatile classes, build and damage wise (condi, direct, hybrid).
I really don`t understand the complains here about condi being too dominant. It`s not because power or hybrid is worse, it`s because players are too lazy to come up with their own builds instead of relying on c&p what they heard is strong.
Recently I`m roaming on power/hybrid (30-10-0-0-30) and I feel it is far more powerful than condition and does great vs counterclasses such as the stuntastic warriors. I feel my damage output is borderline overpowered, especially in combination with all the soft CC provided by nature.
Personally, I wish they would take some of our damage sources away, in case of condition necro Dhuumfire would be my favourite here and work on survivability and/or escape functionalities. We never needed Dhuumfire imo…
I`m doing really good solo-roaming with any build I`ve tried, but there`s no other class that demands such awareness and focus on positioning to not die all the time when something unexpected happens (talking wvw). Another escape panic button would really make life easier.
… We really need to be able to res others in death shroud/litch/etc…
You are already able to DS-res and stomp, takes some practice, but not too difficult. Bind your res/stomp and deathshroud keys close to each other, makes it less of a challenge.
Best regards
Far too strong in what sense, most reasonable suggestions/wishes had some nerfs in it (that would/are needed, like stopping the double Sarmor being a cheap way to win most 1v1s) and you know that unless the current very toxic pvp meta shifts at least a bit away by nerfing some the damage/remove freaking dumbfire, a lot more condi cleanses will be needed and it will return to the who cares about condis since then everyone not just a guardian will be able to be perma cleansed.
Also way back in the days (like a week before MK) we did get confirmation that Lich, Plague and DS stomps are technically bugs since it relies on skill lag and ui not updating, but are leaving it in as a bandaid for balance reasons.
Here for the lolz.
“All oakheart mobs have the same animation, if you were anywhere near the MJ (so asura or sylvari), you should have known them for at least 78 levels. If you didnt go there why the bloody hell are you in the dungeon? Go finish the kittening map to 100%”
This tree has plenty of attacks that are certainly not on the other oakhearts.
Smash that shoots the wave = Oakheart knockback animation
AOE immob on pulse/modified speed hit attacks = aoe root summon attack
Only new animation is the throw and you really dont have to worry about it since it does no damage and its single target and even that is stolen from the risen gorillas.
So while the actual attacks might not be identical, the animations sure as hell are.
“The only attack that does any large amount of damage is telegraphed to hell and back. "
But people get hit with it before they learn the timing of the animations and then stay away. It’s alright to say ‘learn the animations’ but if you don’t know the animations you don’t want to get into trial-and-error when error results in you getting thrown into a cog for what is effectively a one shot kill. Anyone who isn’t being told how to play by a friend or website is probably going to some take a little while to work it out, particularly if they are a squishy class.
All oakheart mobs have the same animation, if you were anywhere near the MJ (so asura or sylvari), you should have known them for at least 78 levels. If you didnt go there why the bloody hell are you in the dungeon? Go finish the kittening map to 100%
There were several times where it didn’t pull on completely flat ground, or the boss would mysteriously step in front of my pull or knock me back into a broken generator which would result in me spazzing out for about 15 seconds while I tried to regain control.
Game engine being broken =/= necro unfriendly from design up, just as MF and kinda with AR (it was ok since we could eat kitten with DS absorb) all new dungeons seem to be very much skill instead of profession based.
a) Ranger damage is far from 40% lower than the rest, compare base damage of skills to necro or mesmer skills.
b) 3 words: Devourer and Wolf – both of these guys are very very useful
c) Pet swap and “Guard” exist, just as a thief swaps to scorp wire, a mesmer to focus offhand and GS for other set and Necro to Spectral Grasp, you too should adapt your utility skills.
d) For those with trouble on FM, use the pull mechanic to stairs and make sure to have Sword main hand, Hswpring and Lighting reflexes and dodge trough him with em if you cannot normally dodge. Stick to the 600 range sword 2 evades you back from him since in the 900 is the firestorm aoe knockback effect.
Again devourers are very good here but spiders tend to be even better since they can immob him prior to spin (especially Black Widow/Jungle Spider that can do it even with F2) at least half of the time.
Second weapon should obviously be longbow for evade and interrupt.
Giant piece of wood that has written: IF YOU ATTACK ME FROM RANGE I SHOOT kitten NEGATING FREE ROOM that barely hits for 2k and has 2 massive tells/animations for skills that maybe could somehow actually kill you a kinda buggy but in worst case annoying (throwing you into the middle) single target cc with a simple shield mechanic that was thrown in your face at least 4 times before it, this is hard exactly how? Oh right it requires the least used sense, common sense.
Just to note, Norn Wolf, Sylvari Turrets and Reaper of Grenth are all good for leveling if you dont wanna go easy mode, but yeah Golem is a demon vs mobs till around level 70, he falls behind in orr and frostgorge just how the other minions go weaker about 10 levels before (excluding Wurm who is a valid option all the way).
1. Shade
2. Return of old Sarmor and Swalk
3. Return of the kick out of DS absorb and in ds weapon swap
4. Minion armada + skins
5. Zhaitan Lich form and Baelfire Lich form skins
6. New textures for some of the shadow skills not to look like leather scraps from upclose/more like the shadow flames from aatexs
7. Option to go Hammer, Sword/Sword and Axe/Axe
DS#2 Overhauled:
900 range targeted shadowstep
aoe blast radius 120 comprised of 150 direct dmg tooltip with 2stacks of bleed 5s
at the cost of 25 or 33% of full Life force.I won’t ask of anything else.
I would give us the mobility we all demand. It allows us to dodge big OHKO.
I personally would go for 33% LF cost per use or maybe even 40-50% to avoid it being imba/spam. Maybe also reduce range from 900 to 600.To help you visualize this imagine the thief infiltrator arrow Shortbow#5 with a smaller Geomancy sigil effect at the end instead of aoe blind.
ps: ever since I imagined this I can’t stop thinking about it, I crave this. I’d take my necro everywhere in peace of mind. www roaming/any dungeon, without thinking “oh maybe I should hop on my x character for this cause I’m useless or inefficient”
No. No direct shadowsteps (or vigor or invul), its against necro design.
If mesmer is the flipside of the necro coin, then thief is the paper version of of it. All that the necro is good at cripples a thief, all that a thief is good at facerolls a necro, only difference is better designed utilities and traits from us not being polar opposites (and no we are counters to guardians in boon segment only, but in the rest of the kit pretty simmilar).
Also http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Grawl_Ritual_Totem – used to have 0 cd, so yay for nercroing 6s long chain fears with terror in wvwvw, but not its profession equivalent.
Charr can have it. What i want is a alliance with Centaur, Forgotten and Krait for Kryta, Elona and Cantha respectively.
They don’t, they can write very well.
Scarlet doesn’t lend herself to a good story though, in my opinion. She’s, so far, very shallow. Too many conveniences in the storyline. Way too much of “suddenly, a Wild Scarlet appeared to tear Tyria a new one”.
Why’s she doing it? Wait an undisclosed amount of time to find out.
Don’t like it. Want rid of her.
GW1’s Vizier Khilbron was an amazing villain. You knew he had a very defined goal, even though it wasn’t disclosed, and I enjoyed the fact that he didn’t disclose himself as a villain to the player until very late in the story…even though we all had his cards marked as evil by the end of Sanctum Cay.
In GW2… I love Faolain. So what if she’s more-or-less only made much of appearence in Twilight Arbor Storymode? There is intrigue behind her. Some mystery surrounding her relationship with Caithe, and why she turned to Nightmare. There are aspects of Faolain that remind me very much of Vizier Khilbron. Equally with Caudecus. We all know Caudecus is dodgy as kitten, and he’s sitting there, ticking over in the background being all mysterious. These are the kind of stories I like, but I recognise they’re maybe not for everyone.
Scarlet is too brash. So what if she’s attacked a lot of people and places. That doesn’t make her a “good character”. I feel that if there’s more to her than just someone who makes Chaos and starts fights, then we need more information on this…. something to make me care about wanting to see the next installment. At the moment, I do not care, and when Scarlet is announced to be in the next living story patch my heart sinks a bit. I couldn’t wait to get to the next mission in each GW1 campaign. As for this Living Story, so long as it’s about Scarlet, don’t care – don’t want it.
No, A-net 100% needs better writers, the people that butchered old lore (despite some of it still being in game on skill points, hidden locations n legacy characters).
Lets see at stuff you could have done:
ED
Design – giant incarnations of a negative aspect of the (irl) human culture turned into threats
Story around them – giant stupid tornado
Enemies in personal story for pact/orders
D – having a band of allies following you trough the fight against zhaitan, you slowly losing them 1 by 1 with the following things being touched upon: loss of friends, slavery, racism, kitten , opression, respect of culture but knowledge of whats best for the future, difference between family bonds and responsibility to others, not to break under pressure or fear and equality of life.
Story – kitten kitten lets get these people then never see them then do the same to 4 others and only have like 5 well written characters and make the PC a selfish cynical prick (which i liked since thats the type of character id chose to play, but seriously think for how fast our pc decides on stuff and how little impact a lot of the personal story had).
Living story
D – ever evolving WORLD that players can explore and that impacts how we see tyria
Story – yay a new island pops out of nowhere, the dredge that are very anti-oppression ally with what were essentially the southern US slave owners with a fancy for pyromania and blind religion (ok the last 2 might still apply for the south of north america but still im pretty sure that the main thing we are supposed to hate about the flame legion is that they suppressed human/well charr and female rights), space/air pirates pop up with no explanation, 5 important characters just vanish off the face of the earth, a important character dies offscreen and somehow dragon worshipers are the Chinese trade routes that everyone knows off but has never seen and were never there but now will be?
How can this be the ONLY game I know, who’s servers can’t handle DoT/Debuffs?
Because its the only game that has devs stupid enough to make the dots stress the servers by having to check each time a condi ticks or is applied. I know i return a lot to wow so other examples, MS, EQ, automated MuDs plain didnt kittening care to have statistics on debuffs, they just handled them as all other damage.
This game has dynamic scaling on the dots though. IE it has to check for your might stacks every tick, track back down that source, then check again in 1 second in case it has changed.
Would be an easy fix to just have dots take your current condition damage at time of application, then they don’t need to be re-checked every second.
Look at source condition damage, apply condition with said condition damage, forget source. Simple as that.
You know that it scales in EQ and WoW too… one of the best pvp lock builds relied on you spiking up the damage your Haunt for Unstable Affliction with spell power trinket actives. Its just a quite rare case since its harder to code.

I used to think Human was terrible for Necromancer but boon duration runes and Death Magic traiting makes the Prayer to Lyssa pretty sweet for a profession with limited boon access and its CD is funny-short.
Good for leveling, very strong in 1v1s, kinda got weaker now over time with pve shift of boon strength and fixing it not to sometimes give 2+ boons.
Do you guys remember the time when this forum was full of complaints about how other classes are so much better at conditions because they could stack higher and faster, like 3 months ago…?
That was before we got all our buffs that had absolutely nothing to do with transfers, in fact Putrid Mark was even stronger back then.I actually saw a guy in sPvP today with 3 other condi built classes attacking him and he killed them all. Was pretty darn impressive.
That is impressive, but I doubt he won that battle with transfers alone. On equal skill 2v1 is already too much even if you could counter their builds individually, so my guess is that those 3 players made a lot of mistakes.
Well its still fact that others can apply condis faster and that PM (staff in general) needs to get fixed, but noone doubted necro 1v1 since the meganerf of Swalk and nerf in general/op in 1v1 buff of Sarmor, in fact a lot of people (zombify, nay, a little bit of MQ and me ofc) complained about changing the defensive focus of necros from 1vx to 1v1 where we were already top dogs (well in the upper 4 against almost all builds). Like minions with 0/0/30/30/10 are like, duelist mesmer or old quickness-whip thief in terms of 1v1 domination since you are not only immune to most condis, but can go any itemization and still deal good enough damage, also minions tend to bodyblock cc.
But still any kind of cc build vs anything that doesnt have 5+ meatwalls infront, any bust into disengage (aka poke build) and anything with good enough continuous sustain (the D/F modification of the old ele build and guardians in most setups) still plain facerolls over necros.
Also 5 squishy condi builds without mel or lemon on focusing you into plague epi = PENTAKILL unless one of them is also a necro, so its stupidity of the enemy to underestimate the power/potential of a enemy that causes such 1v3 wonders, you got like 15 pages explaining the basics of it in Sun Tzus art of war.
I agree with all sayng that the New dungeon doesn’t require dodge.
I don’t know even if I can call that a ‘dungeon’…For me it felt like an Huge puzzle. There aren’t any boss fights… Only Boss puzzle (except for the double-axe charr Boss). Mobs fights are jockes (Aetherblades Retreat had more difficult encounters)
In many fights you can just use DS as a meat shield. It’s not a problem if you’re a condi build.
But if you are DS-build you could have some problem, especially at the final boss where DS is important to survive to Multiple shockwaves.
If that’s the cause, you need to understand that that Fight is not a matter of dps, but staing alive.
To again use memorable examples of what a boss is and isnt, Twin emperors in AQ, 2 guys that healed eachother and buffed eachothers attacks if close, but were just a little stronger than your “world” boss (that were plain tank n spanks for 2-4 minutes on a optimized group), Baron Geddon, a boss who did virtually no damage, rooted himself and pulsed a bit of fire (that you could out and overheal with very low cost druid and priest aoes), but had a “bomb” fire that he threw on one of the 38-34 people around him (he didnt throw it at some targets for obvious reasons/not to be a idiot unless they were the only targets). Those are bosses, Clock was a boss, S&S were bosses, Foreman was… well testing if old skills worked i think (and again showing that the pulse aoe around him/the firestorm from MF is buggy as hell).
Also trash mobs are supposed to be easy, that the point of them, not for you to afk walk there, but not having to care/pop elites/do important for them; their definition kinda became their name if you didnt know. Sure its not a good/interesting end game dungeon path for a organized group, but i dont think we will see something like that for a while or at all (which is sad).
Make one of each, go to heart of the mists, check out the cultural skins on your character, see what you end up liking most.
Or if you’re into lore, Sylvari, I hear they have the best storyline.
Other than that, its pretty much just looks/racialsthatnobodyeveruses.
They have the best personal story quests/best references (well norn got 80s movies and charr got a lot of war puns, if that counts for anything), but overall polish of the in game lore is still very much human, mostly because of GW1.
Also making a sylvari will make saladbolg and his guardian/ele/thief/warrior/necro master of monotone slightly less of a kitten character (not sure what choices on creation you have to make trough) since he is actually smart and kinda well acted in the personal story.
AND HEY i love to use my Grenth for cases where you have to melee kite cough clockheart and the crits/lich form aint such a good idea sodding camera and bigger hitbox for cogs n lighting And as you actually made me test hounds a good idea (not as good as charrzookah) for condi builds. Lyssa was useful for leveling. (But i still dont have kormir unlocked since i just so bloody hate her and the skill is so very useless on a necro).
? The new dungeon needs about, oh right 0 dodging (ok maybe the flying screws at oak and sometimes on the oozes to kite, but even that last resort when ds is down).
Returning old 3% each hit (or 4% for sarmor) without ITC, giving us shade for anything that aint pvp (or boosting FITG to pulse/reapply/not punish using DS as a form instead of just hopping) or letting us use UW DS1 and get the 1% LF absorb back would be awesome, but we are in a mostly good spot, give thieves mesmers and eles back the attention so that they shut up about being balanced for all i care.
For WvWvW, every 1v1 necro that isnt a well power/defender build is bloody overpowered IF you are dumb enough to stick to him, Our fight control in a open field is low, mobility even lower and even with Sgrasp cant do much against a real stun/immob into disengage, even a condi build with relatively low cooldowns has quite a downtime in duel power if he popped stuff to kill you.
Also dodge when the enemy necro points at you during signet cast (2/3 of those are lethal if you are a condi build vs a condi necro).
Low duration strong condition ticks are the key if you really want to condi down a necro (block guardians being prime example).
