Ranger has poor condition removal… With the exception that they can have up to two condis pre 10 removed pull all their condis to bears that cleanse a condi in a aoe with another well sized aoe that removes 5 condis to up to 5 people (ignoring other parts of its effect, but still being on a shorter cooldown than WoP) and the kinda mandatory spirit elite cleanses condis before rezzing you and 3 of the 5 options are staple in pvp…

What Ranger’s lack is good on-demand cleanses. Passively, they have ridiculous amounts of cleansing, but that’s all on 10-second intervals. Their only “on demand” cleanse screws their pet over.

We dont have passive cleanses, mesmers dont have mass cleanse, thieves got cleanses on mobility skills/skills worth more for their primary effects, etc; but yeah ok.

Sylvari or Human Necromancer?

For lore, Human (technically only race that is allowed and can use necromancy to its full potential)…

I beg to differ. Ghosts of Ascalon book had a female sylvari necro as a main character. I’d say that’s fairly adherent to the lore.

Knote explained it rather well.

Little thing, who did the pale tree base the sylvari on? Also the poor little saladmancer in GoA wasnt very “bright in the head”~ (especially her view of death).
Fact remains, despite magic being locked to the bloodstones on Tyria instead of the gods being the source, you need to be at least half immortal or a alternate form of the sentient life (demon, dragon, spirit) to use any kind of Tyrian magic to its full potential since they can attune to the gods better (examples of it being if you contact a statue of balthazar, you get 90 times more powerful than anything except a champion of EDs or a ED itself and that just worshipping him allows Grawl to become a actual threat, use real weapons and turn into fire demon thingys).
So yes everything is canon (hell a drake could probably become a necro and a firefly a guardian or a grub a mesmer if they could understand the magic), its just using alternate sources of energy or way weaker type of magic.

Necromancers are not actually evil. It is just that we understand the meaning of “sacrifice” a lot better than other people.
For example the GW1’s Blood is Power. The necro is killing 1/3 of himself to give his allies energy. Most people will see that as madness. Necro see that as a worthy sacrifice. We are willing to sacrifice everything for that extra inch of power.
It is the same thing when we look at the world and politics. If sacrificing 10 innocent people will save 10,000 people, a necro would do it in a heart beat. A warrior might refuse to sacrifice anyone, trying to save everyone, and ends up getting 10,000 people killed.
Necromancers also see death on a whole different level. That explains why they are so different from everyone else.

Well true, but its the same as saying the zerg in SC2, the tyranids in 40k or for the hell of it the changelings from MLP arent technically evil, its just a matter of blue and orange morality instead of black and white/good and evil. But stuff that we can do is like 3/4 is ususally on the side of evil (forced rez, stealing the souls of other people, turning their blood toxic, taking away their time on earth, enslaving shiz from the underworld to power our fleshy constructs and mind kitten via our fear effects) 1/8 neutral (blood offerings and spectrals/pushing half of our existence into the underworld) 1/8 good (healing others with our life force).

As Bhawb said, necros are Sith, but instead of just in ideology, its more the old Kotor sith like Revan, Darth Traya and comics Vader (no the pre trilogy doesnt exist so whine version doesnt count), less the Empire sith.

Necromancer Flesh Golem Glitch/Abuse/Bug?

Lemme explain a few things about the wave/pulse mechanic of movement skills.
They all have a base damage (200~ in golems case as seen) that are used for hit detection, but then they also have a “On hitting a enemy/on effect” damage proc that in golems case is ccing you, in case of burning speed is the end of the charge or in whirlwind is plain hitting the enemy.
All wave skills have been bugged like that since release allowing for people to get hit by more than one proc of the main damage (despite them fixing Death Blossom that had the same problem of instakilling people – thief dd 3) and are the reason why some instakills happened in MR and some happen during the new Tequila waves despite the actual damage that should be dealt being only like 2k (or something just as pitiful, it barely does damage if you have stability and move towards it instead of jumping/running away if you dont have dodge or lag).

Has been a problem since frost and flame, worse is each pulse/part of the wave counts as its own hit so depending on if you have stability and stand still, dodge back or just get knocked around depends on if it barely does 2k damage (the intended amount) or instakills you.

I think the one other problem is that underwater DS is undeniably broken as hell. If we were to directly translate it to land it’d be completely OP.

That is EXACTLY why we need it… well just DS 1 on land (since they did nerf putrid and no fix seems in sight); 3 and 4 might be kinda op (3 for obvious reasons and 4 for the mass condi removal + dem cc heal after it).

I honestly don’t know how people manage to RP in this game. It is one of the only games where the single player experience goes from essentially meaningless, menial tasks, and then basically turns you into a companion of the actual protagonist.

You basically play as Samwise Gamgee, with all the actually important characters everyone cares about being NPCs. It is ridiculous. Not only that though, there just doesn’t feel like anything special. I shouldn’t get the same reception from people as a Necro that I do as a Warrior; especially not when Zhaitan and I have such similar magic.

Honestly I just don’t get it. Besides the gameplay, I just really see no reason I’d want to RP as my characters.

While its not really rp (i rarely do anything “in character”), but its fun to make a backstory for all your characters, like all my characters to be from the same guild (or warband in the old charriors mind) and went together trough the order quests, how the necro fought her mesmer cousin over who gets to join the OoW and tease tybalt with balls of yarn.

First the ascended being a set stat type (rabid and dire) being a slap in the face to everyone not going for conditions, could it not be like they did with magic find, chose a type when you get it at start and then its that stat forever (so they dont have the utility of legendaries but aint a pain to use for stat combos.

Second Sunless runes have random crit damage, why? Why not -10% stun duration or something, because right now with nightmare and melandru runes existing they seem kinda pointless; right at the time when a-net said they wanna reduce the amount of useless runes.

Sadly, it doesnt matter if your comp can handle it or not… Because Anet servers cant. There’s still a 2-3 second delay on everything you do, including any evasion and stuff… Up until half the raid realize they’re not gonna make it and just zone out, but then you’re too few players and 75% of them are just waiting dead on the ground anyway… So you cant complete it anyway… Sad to be defeated by server capacity, rather than game/fight mechanics…

A very important thing, often the “lag” is just kittenty hit detection and like 6~8 year old engine GW2 is running on… Like the jump pads overshooting, the Waterfalls in Sab, the Shadowfall of Liadri the waterwaves and earthquakes you can avoid “by jumping over them” (and with that i mean a second after or before ignoring the animation since its rarely correct with the actual wave that can also multi-hit you if you move).

Weakling, did you ever do any of the older WoW raids? Stuff like Onyxia took 25~ min for a medicore organized group on voice over, a 15 minute boss is no problem, if his hp fits and there are no bugs or trolls (both that sadly exist if its open world or plain made by a-net).

Yeah and do you remember how painful doing Onyxia was? That fight was NOT fun.

It was painful when people spawned the whelps or didnt move out of the fire, but it was a good challenge and you got braggers rights (and it got easier with the gear you got from beating her if you had enough DKP). Thats kinda what raids are about.
Problem in GW2 is there is no control over important objectives, a lot of numbers werent really tested (like the krait vets that can somehow instakill the turrets but barely do damage to players as seen 2 times already on overflow while trying to repair the sodding turret) and bugs like jumping over shockwave physically but still getting knocked back and getting stuck inside the sodding bone wall.

I think 15 minutes is too long. A good big boss fight should be should be 6-8 minutes imo. Short enough so that people don’t say “let me know when he’s at 10% and I’ll port in” as is what happens in my guild with events like Claw or Lyssa.

Maybe some people would like a 30+ minute boss fight but I think in many cases they don’t really know what they are asking for.

A-net i am disappointed. Ok the buggy jumping water/earthquakes, it was kinda ok with liadri being a luck fest because of the camera and aoe indicators, it was even ok with how bug ridden and boringly long SAB2 is, but i shall not stand around when our dear friends the elder dragon champions do not get their dental needs taken care of by their employers!

Meh, the naginata is just a spear with an expensive saber blade but spears were way more popular than swords, even in Nippon, because of the cost/benefit curve.

Actually they originated in the same way (war-scyhtes and naginatas), only one was a self defense tool/stick that was also used to carry water and the other a farming tool, then reworked into a (axe-ish) polearm/anti-cavalry slashing weapon respectively, spears are used to impale people (only unlike lances they can be thrown), not slash, what is kinda forgotten on the 2nd and 3rd chain of auto attacks in GW2.

Spear =/= naginata, kthx. Both are polearms, but not the same.

Only difference between any kind of sharp object on a stick is how its used, halberds can be used like spears (since are kind the baby of a axe and spear), all of the old greek and roman spears were usable as (very inefficient) naginatas, older and samurai naginatas (dual bladed) were usable as a labrys, etc So while it is true that its not the same, the devs sure didnt think so since a lot of other poleweapons are in the spear section (just as we got 2 scythes in the staff and shivs/daggers/blades dont make sense since in both cases the fighting styles are way different, normal scythe is more like dancing around/parry movements into slashes, quarterstaves are blocks into tripping the enemy and other non-lethal ways to disable the enemy, daggers are for stabbing, knives for cutting).

I love my spear. We should have more under-water map to use it on. Instead, we have Quagg and fishing.

Yeah spears should just be transfered to land and be used as naginatas (even if technically they shouldnt be usable by males in that case since naginatas were originally just for female self defense before people just said its stupid to deny a more efficient war-scythe).

We do not reanimate the creatures themselves. They blurred the hell out of it in GW1 due to the corpse system, but we’ve always formed entirely new creatures, just using dead crap we find as the basis for it.

I would assume our shade is, more accurately, like the stuff we cloak ourselves in when we use Death Shroud. It was originally tied to it (it would even die if we left DS, if I remember correctly), so while this is a complete assumption I think it is of the same essence.

Also, Verata definitely stretched rules, but Khilbron outright broke them. I’m not trying to say Necromancers can’t do it, the issue is more is it acceptable enough to be considered an ability that every single necromancer has access to use? I don’t think so, it is highly controversial, and would be even less acceptable than our current practices are.

And frankenstein totally wasnt body parts of at least 2 once living beings but still counts as a zombie/undead, or the jiangshi, or vampires, or golems, or abominations (wow ones) if you wanna talk about different creatures being mixed.
Also Bone minions and jhorrors are the only summons that are some sort of ugly fusion since Blood fiend is a Wind Rider/a variant of the species, Bone Fiend being a Lashtail Devourer/variant of devourer Wurm being a Frost Wurm/non jungle wurm kin and Golem being a Minotaur.

Shades and Aatxes are spirits of the underworld/fusions of lost souls trough unnatural magic, in most cases gods or demon ones. Priory corrupt sword storyline in GW2 even explains it for those that didnt bother playing UW in GW.

And for Khilbron, the one time he maybe broke the rules was with Rurik (even if he didnt need to but i guess using a rez signet on him would have been too precious or maybe he did and the frostbite caused that face). Not to mention that pretty much every necro upon hitting level 30 offers his soul to the underworld in exchange for almost unlimited power and possible eternal life by turning into a lich…

So despite very little attention being put on it because of other stuff going on in GW2, it was kinda a “big” initial issue in GW to that everyone just said kitten it we got tattoos, fedoras, spikes, fishnets, top hats and fancy BDSM outfits; necros are still technically in the evil side of the moral spectrum, just moved from lawful to neutral/tame or chaotic, kinda same with mesmers and their always chaotic alignment. For the controversy id rather ask what the hell is in the engie elixirs and how exactly are we fine with letting rangers mind control the spirits of the environment now or even letting mesmers distort the particles of a person and turn them into a moa than oh someone gave a pile of decaying flesh basic motoric functions and a “mind” that is dumber than my pocket watch…

We do not actually raise undead creatures. What I mean by that is we don’t reincarnate anything, we do not make “zombies”, we are not Necros in the classic sense that we actually take individual creatures and raise them back from death. What we do instead is take components of dead creatures, and mold them together.
This is actually really important lore-wise. Necromancers are not only not allowed to fully reincarnate creatures (only able to use dead matter to make minions), but Zhaitan does that very thing; he creates true undead. It is what separates Necromancer’s darker themes from being entirely evil. We’re already generally shunned by the general populace, but imagine if we started using the same magic as Zhaitan.

Not really true…
a) We do reanimate the beings/create zombies, its just not as much sentient life, but more like plants or mushrooms (and asura using a very crippled version of necromancy based on manipulating the energy from crystals, that can be used to transfer life force as shown by kralky and the searing, to power golems into the Living and half sentient servants; well in 2 cases of the personal story actually sentient)
b) Verata and co (including Khilbron) who used the more nsfw magic still kept the souls of beings from the mists…. thats kinda what our shade is (but its probably some giant sperm or fuffle puff spirit so not something that could have really been called living) so again we and zhai aint so different in the way necromancy is used (but he brainwashes and hive minds his minions what makes quite a big difference… well we did that to eachothers minions in gw too…. ok no we are just the same thing but way tamer without the i wanna take over the world aspect being actually possible)
c) Necros were very much shunned till the magic was actually useful during the searing (what you got reminded of quite often)… thats kinda the very same reason why there were so many necromancer enemies in Prophecies, the removal of typically strict regulations put on the use of necromancy by the Order from Wizard’s Folly. So its more of a “shall we allow jack the ripper to live and do his thing because he is helping us to fight the kittens in a 10 times more efficient way than we can ever hope to do?” that just stuck to this day, also with grenth and dhuum out of the picture necros got way way weaker (since except blood offerings that seem to not exist anymore necros do get their magic hardcoded to the underworld).

Plus it fits Oolas ideas of combining golamancy and necromancy. If you are an asura that is.

Golemancy is necromancy (Oola was/is the only asura npc thats a necro and the only real golemancer we were able to meet, Snaff was probably a Necro/Ele too)… its just kinda crippled/regulated or in case of mass production, using elementalist arcane summoning techniques.

Sylvari or Human Necromancer?

For lore, Human (technically only race that is allowed and can use necromancy to its full potential), for looks Sylvari, if you wanna be a hipster or ALPHA MANLY Charr. Asura and Norn necros are just heresy (asura “necromancers” just being golemancers, also they are punt sized **** while Norn give necros mobility via elite skills thus heretic/good for wvwvw).

If you make life steal too strong then it will make Necros way too strong when using omnomberry ghosts. Those things already heal a ton. The obvious solution is to nerf the food and make blood a worthy trait tree, but of course they wouldnt do that.

Currently, running knights gear and omnom ghosts with 20 in blood, I siphon so much health that I sometimes feel invincible in 1vX. The procs and healing from the dagger #2 channel is enough to take me from half health to full. And with dagger auto attacks and the right blood traits I can siphon a lot of HP consistently.

Doesnt work in Spvp because Anet said sorry no Knights gear.

Or just do what pretty much every necro suggested in beta, split the siphons to mutually excusive ones but make them strong enough to support it (so either basic hits siphon, crits siphon, conditions siphon or minions; all secondary like swap sigil runes and blood fiend dont count)..

zerker stacking is not moronic (if anything playing tanky and/or ranged is moronic; but play how you want)
the only place i can think of in the newer dungeons this would be useful wouldve been in the golem room in AR (then again… could easily fear them through the laser walls… giving them might/invuln), everywhere else it wouldve been stupidly annoying for good groups

Master- Reaper’s Protection- When disabled (by stun, daze, knockback, knockdown, sink, float, fear, or launch), nearby foes fear you. This effect can only trigger once every 90 seconds.

I think he means “fear nearby foes”. Actually, I’d be quite happy with Reaper’s Protection as a minor trait, but I feel in that case it should be Grandmaster level. It’s one thing when you have to choose for it over Greater Marks or Flesh of the Master (let’s be honest, nobody bothers with Death Shiver).. As a minor, though, it should not be super accessible.

Blood traits, round two – fight! Let’s see if they actually manage to push them into the realm of viability this time. Of course, as long as they don’t apply a (short) internal cooldown to them, life stealing will forever be caught in the balance limbo between AoE and single target skills.

Also really hoping for a fix/redesign for dhuumfire, even though that’s probably too much to ask for.

That is kinda the point of lifesteal traits on a necro, we are the worst 1vx either way, if we can at least survive for long enough by cc and chip damage heals for allies to come (think of cho from lol) we could be quite efficient tanks.

Mesmers needed a better condition removal to be able to be able to play on PvP again, and they may actually stage a comeback after the next patch.

Mesmers were never technically unviable/wouldnt work, people just quit/decided its not worth it to use them as anything but the shatters and port/map control they were used to.

Gamblers Fallacy, you could do Tequatl 10000000000 times, doesnt mean your chance is getting any better, the drop rate is individual…..

yes and no, yeah your chances of getting it don’t increase, but it is very unlikely that you wouldn’t get it after a while.

Im sorry but are you taking the word of the devs (the ones that at least post about bugs on the forums) that said Necro downed hp is ok, Blood well isnt healing the enemy, engie kits work with sigils and that whirlwind/line damage abilities cannot hit a single enemy multiple times?

DS is 117~119% hp, tested way back when they said “DS got fixed guys, we promise”, because the combat log and it taking more condition damage to remove more than 1% lf pre tick than it used to is no indication whatsoever that instead of sticking to one side of the line (DS being a transformation with its own armor and toughness bonus/negative or a weapon swap/just new skills on a set hp bar that uses identical defensive values as the player), they just doubled the hp.

Gast Claws (#2) giving life force on press not on hit (any good player in PvP avoids it, kinda frustrating with ground pathing to have it fizz cause there was pebble)

Un Feast (#3) Blast Finisher. Retaliation also on Allies.

I know its taking it out of context, but if they took the axe 2, made it a 1 skill channel (like the ele earth projectiles) with a bit toned down damage that “locks” on like them/life siphon, moved current feast to 2 without the boon strip and gave us a 3 skill pbaoe blast finisher with 2 boons pre enemy hit stripped, id actually even go for frostfang.

ranged firepower? you mean axe… at 600 range? or staff? which is based around condi/support (and horrible auto attack for power builds anyway)

- though i do find it hard to visualise a necro with rifle/pistol

Death shroud that despite doing more in 600 range still is a 3-4k 1200 hit, lich form who i dont think has a need to explain and wells that are dropped at 900 range in pretty much every well build that exists.

It has been stated time and time over, Reanimator to Major Master, Summons jaggered horror upon nearby deaths (allies, mesmer phantasams, minions, spirits of both kind included – doesnt proc on shattering, sacing minions on effect or other jhorrors dying), 25 sec internal cd-5 pre slot of jhorror open, max 5 jhorrors up at a time, slots arent shared with the mark of horror from lich nor lich rune ones.

a) Putrid removes your condis from no matter where, its a self trigger, the cleanse on mark was for allies but is currently bugged
b) CC is the “strongest” heal we got/most efficient for its slot if you dont specialize
c) You got the blood grandmaster for condi removal

Spectral effects got removed when you entered Death Shroud, so that was impossible.
You’d only get the Protection if you tried it.
Also 90s cooldown.

Or am I wrong?
Was there a period of time when it had the old effect and Death Shroud didn’t remove it?
If so I apologize.
I just remember the current one and the old one that almost nobody used, I had a period in-between where I didn’t play much so I may have missed it.

Or if you meant “you could eat an Ele burst with Protection and 100% Life Force” then maybe.
Can’t say I did testing on that.

With new Spectral Armor you only need like 20% Life Force though.
Maybe 30%

Before the big DF nerfs patches (so June-25th to the next patch) sarmor was 60 seconds and the 15 point trait was able to be procced in DS (and did give LF, just as it could/can in plague and lich form), you could eat 2 100b from zerker warriors if you started at 100% lf and had 30~ (well 27) into SR without taking a point of damage to hp because of its proc.
Thus the utility was good (protection and easy fill of life force in 1vx situations and when noone peeled for you in pvp), but not cheap in 1v1s/get out of jail free card if you let someone jump you.

Nerf? Why do you keep calling it a nerf?
It was rarely used before the patch, now it can eat an Elementalist’s burst and gets used all the time.

With that said Necro does need a few skills to remove 1-3 condis to better fight Immob and Cripple.
And something to fight vs huge gank bursts, like a short invul.

Granted the old Spectral Armor did have a few niche tricks, like eating a Thief’s Unload to get a ton of Life Force, but for the most part I didn’t feel it was worth a slot before it got changed.

Also the burst is 9 hits over 2 seconds (up to 16 with the arcane setup or 27 with DD greatsword setup – these over 3 seconds), that generates 9% more life force than the current does, as a matter of fact all non thief bursts (and many thief bursts) are in as many hits that they make the old Sarmor better, also that one actually helped in a 1vx scenario unlike this one that overkills LF generations in 1v1 (being essentially a worse endure pain in DS).
Not to mention the fact that caused the swalk nerf turning it pretty much worthless when compared to Wurm and Signet (and now the multiple ms runes) in pve and in most pvp situations.

Occasionally (and totally randomly) signet of the locust speed boost won’t work unless I unequip the signet and re-equip it. Idk if this applies for every speed signet, I know it happens on my thief’s signet sometimes too but haven’t really noticed it on my ele but I don’t use it on ele that much.

Thats a zone transition/slot swap bug, the game looks at the buffs you got, but sadly detects as if the signet passive isnt active, thus “activates it again” actually removing the buff, coding problem.

Uhmmm, no the thing you “feel frustrated about” is called reliability, something the necro is (in theory if you remove all bugs) showered in. If you want big feel/sounding hits you play a warrior, thief, shatter mesmer, engie or ele, in fact if anything Tshackles should be a instant (feel free to even remove the damage portion from the immob) since it would allow defensive use of it.

A lot of necros run the Arah set. I think the CoF pants fit the style as well.

Problem is (on human females) it clips to god knows no end… essentially you turn into a risen (no neck, no stomach, creepy arm movement).

In case of human female chars, well you are kinda out of luck outside the general wraith mask, no head piece looks necroish without clipping the hell out of the rest of the armor set (and no arah just looks plain silly with giant…“foci” under bondage straps, well at least with the colors i have been using *seriously it ends up looking like 2 bathing suits over eachother).
Look up the rate the necro above you for some ideas.

*im personally using CoF pants and head piece since they give the Dhuum like look… god how i wish that you could color the effects on armor pieces.
