If it’s by Doicu then it’s old – he left the company what, around Christmas, didn’t he?

I doubt its for anything new.

I think you are thinking about Kekai Kotaki, who left sometime around Christmas, since Doicu is still working on ArenaNet.

This is true, Kekai was “kitten” amazing. No disrespect to Doicu, who is also very good. Their art styles are completely different though.

They are supposed to drop rare. else everyone has the skin and it is no fun anymore. Maybe they should make the ticket tradable to compensate for the hardcore players but not increase the rates imo.

Not fun for you maybe. I for one couldn’t care less if every single player in the game has a skin I like, I pick my skins based on whether or not I like the appearance, nothing more. If everyone else has one I don’t care, I still think it looks good. Other people having it don’t diminish the look of the skin, and a skin that’s rare doesn’t suddenly become better looking.

This doesn’t whole true for everybody. Half the crowd may like items due to the look, while the other half may like an item because of the difficulty/rareness the item is.

I see both parts of the park, but having rare items is healthy for the in game economy. If everything is the game is “flat” priced, then there is no economy and the game looses a large fan base. Easy game= bored players.

To whom this may concern,

Last night I noticed a couple of Guild Members who received the Dragon Festival Helmets (you receive 3), but were not entirely sure how they got it. As the next few hours progressed, more people had received it.

Right before I logged off I was in a LA Overflow world and portaled to the Trader’s Forum Waypoint. To my right was a chest similiar to the Daily Rewards.

I haven’t seen any comments from the Live Story team or any other Dev addressing this bug.

I can post screenshots if needed.

Be thankful you received the “Polla” Doll

I think it was nice to see that ArenaNet was thanking their paying fans. Even though I disagree on various ideas/implementations, I still support their overall goal and try to help keep a strong game.

To me, you still get a great bargain if you only purchased the game, but still get live updates, new content all throughout the year. Some of us have put in enough in the Gem Store to had purchased the game again (or more). So receiving 3 minis isn’t a huge leap.. lol

Not sure if you guys know this but, there is already a mini-game that you place bets on. Located in Diessa Plateu.

Cost is 50s per, so this is really nothing new.

As to the gold conversation, If you do dungeons, events, etc. you can earn a couple gold each day. That’s being casual. I can see how “core” players make even more by selling all mats, salvaging rares for ecto & selling. Really just depends on your play style.

Just a note: Just because one person exploited and made a lot of gold, doesnt mean all rich players are exploiters. Labeling them with derogative players is wrongful and hurtful to honest players.

Add: When I mean dungeons, I do not mean “CoF” speedclears. I mean doing any/all dungeons paths. I bounce around all of them and always have a decent turnout.

Sclerite Weapons Tickets - Next to Impossible

in Last Stand at Southsun

Posted by: Antara.3189

Antara.3189

the problem with all these suggestions is that it ceases to be a rare weapon. If everyone has 100% access to the skins then it’s not a rare weapon anymore, and it looses it’s value. I like the system they currently have. most people don’t have one, a very select few do. That select few stand out, which I like.

No matter how difficult it is to acquire, if there’s a 100% chance to get it… the game will be flooded with them. Look how many legendaries are around. Just walk around LA for 5 minutes and you’ll see them all over the place.

Well I agree with you man. I think it’s ironic how people downed your opinion about rarity in items, when majority of the people posting here are trying hard to get the skin. If people think it’s ugly then why even bother about commenting about the skin; unless of course you want it because it’s rare.

Granted, I just read that the RNG system is favorable amongst ArenaNet, but they have improved the chance to get the weapon skins in the next update (coming today). The skins also are more vibrant than the Southsun skins.

One thing I hope to see change, is tickets becoming sellable. I’m happy with the small chance, but at least give players the option to sell/trade the tickets if they don’t want it. I really dislike all of the items that are “bound” to the player. I’d say majority of the nice items are like this.

Elitism is ruining this game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Antara.3189

@ the OP:

Yes. The elitism you speak of is ruining the game…for you.

I am sorry that the game does not cater to the ultra-hardcore dungeon crawlers/raiders. If it did, may of us (myself included) would be looking for something else.

Yes, you ruined it for yourself.

But what about us who just want to play game, challenge? Us that socialise in real life? (that we have)

What about you? If you aren’t finding any challenges and you aren’t enjoying your time playing then you should really consider your options.

Yep.

There are games made for 17 year olds who skip school to play 16 hours a day, make spreadsheets to min/max, and rage at the screen over a 0.1% difference between X and Y.

This game is not one of those games.

This is the game for that kid above once she or he hits over 30, has a kid, a job, and plays here and there while looking for an easy way to chat with her or his mates about the events of the day.

Our spreadsheets are devoted to the quarterly statement for management, we skip work because the kid got sick and we clock in 16 hours for less wages than we should get, and we rage at the screen over the 1% taking 90% of the fruits of our labor.

We don’t care for Farmville either, we want an action MMO, and now we have one.

Not true at all. There are players out there who would fit that description, yes. but to classify all “hardcore” players in that category is completely unruly.

I am between casual and “core” and strive to see more challenging, interesting content. I have no “so called” spreadsheets for any game, I work a full time job, commute 150 miles a day, have a healthy social life, and still manage to complete content in a decent manner. I grew up around games so I am experienced with mechanics of various types, but that doesn’t make me some un-social cave dwelling guy who feasts on video games.

So bringing in someones personally life is offensive and un-supportive of this debate/thread. Everyone plays for different reasons and has different backgrounds. Leave peoples life out of the game. Thanks.

I feel the real issue, or atleast part of the issue is that the “elite and hardcore” have already beaten the game to an extent at least before they even log in.

By building groups to beat the content in the most effecient ways, only using builds that game the systems in the game itself and using sites and guides to know all the “tricks” before even logging in does not help.

Now I understand that someone had to actually play the game first to make all of the guides and learn all of the tricks that lead to this type of gaming but if you are doing everything in your power to trivilize the already easy content then why does it surprise you when it seems boring and easy when you actually play through said content?

I personally feel that more people should try to beat the game within the game itself and more people would fine the game to be much more entertaining. By striving to become the best and use the best builds and guides you are only taking away any challenge the game could have offered you in the first place.

Now as backwards as that probably sounds to most of you in this thread I would really challenge you to take a few minutes and really think about that for a moment.

Stop plugging in your PC “Game Shark” and play the game within the game itself. It may not fix all of your issues with the game play but I would be willing to bet that it would help to make the gameplay better by a fair margin for more people.

If you already play this way and still find the gameplay to be too simple or not enough of a challenge then you may simply be too good at these types of games to really do anything about it. Or atleast too good for GW2. And that is in no way ment to be any type of insult or putdown but just the reality of this games gameplay.

Who said they used guides and walkthroughs here? I know OP didnt, cause he said he blasts through Arah Path 4 like a boss and beats Lupicus in 46 seconds.

This thread is about people who think the content is too casual and generic versus interesting and challenging, not about using walkthroughs to slam content out. Though I’ve seen posts about it.

Some people scoff at me for saying this, but look at the pre-requisites for achieving the title God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals in GW1, or maxing your 50/50 HoM points. That required effort to do. It was a challenge, but rewarding to the player who did it. Granted, I think GW1 was not tailored for the casual player, but if you mix that kind of content with GW2 Both crowds should be happy. Right now the core player is left standing in LA.

And a real challenge comes to those who want to craft a legendary (without spending your real money on gold).

As someone who got GWAMM back in ‘09 (I ended up with 35 maxed titles, and 5 account bound ones), I can tell you this: GWAMM was a lot of things, but challenging was not one of them. It was a grind, nothing more. Same with legendaries: it’s a pure grind. And grind =/= challenge.

That’s like saying Legendary Treasure Hunter was a challenge (I had that one too by the way. In fact, I got over 16k chests over 2 accounts). Because it wasn’t. It was a grind as well. I liked chest running though, that’s why I did it. I didn’t get the title because I wanted it, I got it because I liked chest running, and actually made money doing it.

I’m not saying certain parts were a grind to GWAMM, cause they were, Scraping maps was the worse thing I ever did in any game. I had to drink just to do have fun.

Vanquishing though was fun to me, clearing the map with a group of friends was awesome. Doing all the missions was also fun. If you don’t think that’s fun, then yea it could had beeen a grind, but it was your choice to go for the title. I enjoyed majority of the stuff I had to do. EotN titles could be a grind if you did the same content over and over, but I liked doing the HM books and Dungeons, Again all fun parts of the game that wasn’t casual.

I’m sure this will be controversial, but I loved Speed Clears too. The ones with a full team, everyone had a role, and you had to learn the mechanics of the role to complete the dungeon/elite area. A lot of the SC’s had a lot of ragers, but the overall aspect of EVeryone has a specific role for one common goal “Complete the area and receive the reward”.
Some of the clears that people came up with were not cake walks either, I can remember some pretty wild builds people would do for dungeon. IT was a blast though.

I cannot relate to one single time in this game (besided being drunk in a dungeon, in vent with people.) that I had as much fun as I did doing the areas in GW1. In those days, you wanted to watch how someone did a specific role, especially if they were good at that role. In this game I could care less about learning from anyone cause every classs can be every role. Just plain imo.

Add:
The entire story mode is not casual content IMO either, it’s true game content. Granted, it might be easy to do, but you actually follow a story line and it actually requires some effort to do.

In a nutshell anything casual can be completed by just logging on, beating it quickly and being rewarded with max gear.

All I’m saying is there should be both types of content. The problem is, content hungry players want content all the time, and the result is short, easily achieved content such as southsun.

Some people scoff at me for saying this, but look at the pre-requisites for achieving the title God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals in GW1, or maxing your 50/50 HoM points. That required effort to do. I do agree that WvW is fun as “kittens”, I never get bored in there. Fractals is fun if you have the right group. And a real challenge comes to those who want to craft a legendary (without spending your real money on gold).

Pretty funny post honestly, Little bit of boasting and flexing… haha. As long as it makes you feel like a boss though.

On point though, post this answer in many threads but this game does seem to be trending towards casual, giddy content that is more for the family, than the “core” gamer. Maybe soon, this game can be a personalized version of Sims. Cosmetics, homes, susie homemaker.

How do you define casual content? What do you consider a challenge?

I agree that much of the living story has been “meh” at best, although the dungeon at the end of flame and frost was cool.

My personal view is that ANet is trying to mix it up. You get some challenging content such as the Halloween jumping puzzles. You get dungeons like the flame and frost thing and the super adventure dohicky. They also throw in a lot of diversion stuff like crab toss.

The idea is to make the game generally entertaining.

I consider casual content such as this; Content that can be easily completed with any level character without any prerequisites. For example, Southsun Cove is casual through and through. Arah Explorable has to planned more thoroughly (Unless you’re a boss like OP, then you just “slam” through it… I guess.)

True Endgame content that is tailored for level 80s that requires steps to complete is not casual. You have to put effort in to be rewarded. Granted, Dungeon rewards are weak, but the idea behind planning, and having pre-requisites is what I like to do.
Some people complain that content such as that is grinding, but I disagree. It’s for the players who want challenging, rewarding content. Underworld and Domain of Anguish in GW1 were examples of this. You didn’t casualy beat those areas (Again, if your like the OP, and just “bossed” through it, then it doesnt matter what you play, cause your a game god and just need SUPLEX MODE 5000 just to get a challenge. You versus 5000 hordes of zombies with just a wooden plank.)
My list of Casual Content

  1. Southsun
  2. SAB
  3. Mini Games
  4. Early Fractals
  5. Holiday Events

True Game Content

  1. End Game dungeons
  2. Content that requires extended time/effort of play to achieve.

Alliances and ditch the multi Guild thing.

More skills and good skills at that. As it is now I always feel like I’m picking the best of a bad bunch with skills in this game. None made me go into “I must have that on my bar!” mode like many GW skills did.

I think alliances should be in the game, and you should only be able to switch guilds within that alliance. With the addition of Alliance based content (Alliance Bounties, Rushes, Puzzles). I think that would be really cool. That way if I decide to represent another guild in the alliance, I can still talk to my friends in the other.

Things that were in GW1 that I want in GW2 that could actually happen at some point:
- Emotionally meaningful story content (I laughed when Durmand Priory Sylvari died)

Things that I’d like to see that aren’t plausible given the game we’ve been given.
- Seriousness (I hate the forced cuteness. Hate it.)

And much more, but since I’m sure this post will be breezed over, I won’t spend too much time on it.

Not breezed over! Your reference to the “Seriousness” is spot on. There really is no other way to say it. What happened to the actual fantasy style to GW2? I honestly feel like this game is being stuffed with “kiddy” type content.

Wintersday was cool in GW2, but just had a lot of silly/giddy type content that didnt really draw me in.

Wintersday in GW1 had a serious lore tied to it, Dwayna versus Grenth. That was cool, serious, and interesting.

Sadly, two artists from ArenaNet left the company, (Not going to mention names) and I honestly feel not only this happening, but possibly others leaving, NCSoft’s larger hold on ANet’s GW2, and maybe unknown reasons; is why we are seeing “lesser” content in GW2. They answer I have always received when coming to the point of “how did the two games become so different when the same company made them” is they had new, improved visions for GW2. Well I personally disagreed and still disagree.

Guild Wars Live team was good with both Linsey and John at the helm. I don’t think we will see the content we wish from the GW1 era. They proudly stand by their new vision, and since it’s their game, all I can do is either play or not play.

Still try to voice my opinion though.

Our reactions to farming nerfs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Antara.3189

Antara.3189

To Arenanet: I WANT to farm. Why can’t I do this? This is how I want to play the game. Isn’t that what you have been preaching? “Play how you want to play”?

Actually, if you watch the Manifesto to see what ArenaNet was preaching, you would have heard they saying “We don’t want players to grind”. Not “we don’t want to force players to grind”, but rather “We don’t want players to grind”. They have stated with all letters that they don’t want you to grind, and still you claim you want to?

The issue isn’t that ArenaNet nerfs farming. It’s that they don’t nerf farming enough. Farmers and grinders are the ones responsible for how mediocre MMORPGs are – they tell developers that they don’t want fun and deep content, rather they want to be Skinner rats mindlessly pressing their tiny levers for shiny rewards. ArenaNet has made many bad design decisions, but the original idea was that this game was going to be something for human beings, not for rats. Each nerf on farming pushes some of the mice away, but doing things like the entire Southsun event (horrible storytelling, but 200% magic find and quick spawning events with unlimited reward chests) is like adding a big piece of rotten cheese in the game: the rats love it, but it’s still putrid.

ArenaNet should cull all the farmers, grinders, addicts and exploiters. This not only would improve significantly improve the community, but also allow the studio to focus on building good content, instead of Farming 101.

Addicts? What? I find that offensive honestly, and crude.

Pandas? Firstly where are they in Lore?

Hopefully we can see some costumes town/armor gear with a more fantasy Guild Wars style touch. The more ArenaNet puts giddy, Sims style content into the game, the more I loose connection with the Guild Wars atmosphere. The more I see additions like this, the more I look forward to “The Elder Scrolls Online”.

in Last Stand at Southsun

Comparing this to the Temple of Melandru fight

Diffculty
When comparing the difficulty to the the above, I would have to say no, this was not as difficult. The Karka queen went down in roughly 5 minutes and received greens/blues from the chest (I did receive the two golds as attended).

Mechanics
The mechanics were both easily determined in both events, however, with the temple boss having a regen period; this made the fight more difficult and challenging to complete. The egg concept was simple and with enough people, the boss goes down quick anyways.

Conclusion
I would say the Legendary Karka fight was fun for the short time she was up, but the events to secure the 4 camps gave larger chances for better loot (which I received a Southsun Crate, and an Exotic ring). Given the chance, I will probably be down there again to see the challenge once majority of people have come and gone, but I prefer the challenges in Cursed Shore versus Southsun.

I wouldn’t consider this “end game” content either. If all players are scaled to the appropriate level, then that area shouldn’t be considered “end-game”. I hope to see areas in the future that are designed for the true level 80s (Like Frostgorge, Cursed Shore).

Blizzard listened to their fans and ended up turning WoW into a piece of crap.

WOW turned into a piece of crap when BC ended and they began to cater to casuals… end of story.

Oh hey! Think about Nintendo in the 80s/early 90s. Catered to the serious core gamer, then BOOM! this term “Casual” gamer came and nintendo didn’t just include content for them, they DESIGNED content from them, leaving behind the core gamer. But hey guess what, Look where nintendo is now. Sitting behind the other platforms. That’s what’s happens when a company starts cold-shouldering the core gamer who is devoted, for the guy who wants content to be mild/a cakewalk just to feel acomplished at the end of his/her day.

I’m all about including content for Casuals, but you have to keep your core gamers satisified too. Because when “Kittens” hit the fan and your true fans start “arunnin”, they “aint” comin" back.

Probably too late to turn the train around, but I’m not even sure much of the premise of this thread is true. All that we know is that the Canthan district of Divinity’s Reach was removed because some people complained about it. I’m not sure we know whether it had to be removed or ArenaNet just agreed that it wasn’t up to par and decided to take it out; or whether NCSoft was part of that decision; and we certainly don’t know that there’s an overarching conspiracy by NCSoft to excise anything remotely Asian-themed from the game.

Cantha is probably not being “blocked” for cultural-sensitivity “business reasons”. It probably just hasn’t been made yet because ArenaNet wanted to start on one continent first, and Tyria made the most sense for that. Unless there is actually an anti-Asian business plan (which, as has been explained countless times above, wouldn’t make much sense since other games got away with this kind of content) Cantha isn’t gone forever, we just don’t know when we’ll be back.

This thread is really big and no one from the Arena Net staff said a word. A simple Confirmation from ArenaNet (on this thread) that they will add Cantha would be nice, and would appease many.

Actualy one dev. did state that it could had just been one employee from NCSoft who might not even be there now. So that does confirm it was an issue stemming from NCSoft but what we don’t know is who, how, or where the sensitivity came from sparking all of this.

LFG

Frankly I’m surprised no one has said this yet. Yes, there’s a website, but nothing beats an in-game “looking for group” tab so there’s no minimizing.

I posted that two posts above you….

Oh hey. so it would seem. hidden in the list of things. I apologize. You said it first. Let me reword my statement.

Frankly I’m surprised there are not more people asking for this here.

No need to get “snappy”, The way you set your tone; the statement was presented towards the players. I’m sure it wasn’t attended.

Since I know the Devs are sensitive to bringing up GW1 apsects in relation to GW2; I will keep this short and sweet.

Please allow me to target enemies even when not a group. I want to be able to press one key and be right back in the same target, instead of pulling deers, randoms.

Disasterous.

EDIT: The more I think of it, the more I want to really express what I hailed from GW1

  1. Spectacting after dead
  2. Guild Halls
  3. Certain Weapon skins Dyable
  4. LFG window that I could pull up and see who’s looking for what (without the spamming)
  5. Costume Makers
  6. Underworld, Fissure of Woe
  7. Districts were fantastic (How am I supposed to know where to guest to find the most populated map, i.e.; Kessex Hills)
  8. Cantha
  9. Party of 8 in certain areas
  10. Crystal Desert
  11. Guild Alliances
  12. Skill Variances
  13. Trading with players directly
  14. Guild Capes

Why do you rangers suck in Dungeons?

I keep hearing about this bad “rep” but I have never had an issue getting into groups, or leading a group in a dungeon. I even have received numerous compliments in dungeons.

Maybe it’s the GW1 title, I’m not sure but I think it’s all in how you playin the environment. Maybe majority of rangers are using LB and SB and standing in one area? This is a game all about moving around, and mechanics.

I normally run a solid SB, LB, trap build and never have much issue.

Unless majority of people are just extremely nice and don’t say anything, but knowing how people are, I doubt it.

New Server Matchups Was Worst Idea Ever

Us on Ehmry bay feel kind of ripped off. We worked really hard and earn the right to move back up to tier4 this week, then we got a bad roll and were moved BACK to tier5. Now haff of our wvw community is mad and not showing up. So now we are going to lose a lot of the rank we worked so hard to get and SBI is gaining a ton of ranking.
So what’s going to happen next week? We are going to be back in the T5 bracket and SBI is back in T4.

WVW is a competition, you move up the bracket with hard work and commitment. Anet gambling with mach ups is going to take out the competition

Trust me, I don’t think us at AR want to see EBay for a good long time, you’re not “loosing” any rank when matched up with the same two worlds.

I want to add a note:

This thread has 23 pages and still going strong with support from players. For a thread to be this large, their is almost no chance that a good portion of ArenaNet employees have not seen this thread. I can understand why they wouldn’t publicly write opinions; but with this thread still being open, you can see where they side as well

Ghastly Longbow Animation Issue

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

To whom this may concern,

When equipping the Ghastly Longbow it displays animations at night (ghostly bubbles). As soon as I fire an arror, the animations are permanently halted until I either leave the map, or unequip, requip.

I have also seen two physical errors where the bow-string gets stuck at the draw-back position; and also repeating the fireing animation. This issue is different than the skill getting stuck, but rather the bow itself just in a repetitive motion of shooting invisible arrows.

Hopefully these bugs can be fixed in the near future as it greatly reduces the pleasure of owning this bow.

A sad day for WvW’s… Ebay is like the big bully who smites AR down week after week. My server is loosing faith in fellow players, please give Ebay someone else!

Thanks for the update Devon. Hopefully everything gets sorted soon because I’m looking forward to fresh new faces in wvw.

Last Stand at Southsun: Feedback/Opinion

Sure there’s a few things that can be done better (as is with everything), but given the time the designer had to work on the instance, I think he did a great job.

I think this statement pretty much encompasses my issues with not only the Southsun content but also on the current state of the Living Story. I realize that everyone in any line of work has deadlines and due dates, but if the end result is excused by saying “well, it was pretty good given the time we had to work on it” then there’s something wrong with the way the work is being done. Either more time needs to be given or more resources need to thrown at it in the same time frame.

Well, I’m sure if Robert had more time, it would have turned out differently. But I highly doubt he would tell his boss/supervisor/board (not sure how their management is set up) that if he doesn’t receive more time/resources, then hes not doing it. It’s more on the lines of "Yea I think we can design this event, with this amount of resources, in this amount of time, sir. "

There are times when things don’t go the right way in my line of work, and even if I know that’s not the correct way. I cannot say “hey, that’s wrong, do it this way”. I can recommend the way I think is right, but in the end; the big guys make the decisions.

(This is not attended to offend, harass Robert, or anyone else)
