Nature's oath outfit blunder

From the financial point of view they’d also make more money if they’d separate the pieces. Instead of 700 gems for an outfit, sell each piece for 150 gems and you’d get 900 gems for a full outfit, but people would buy more so they can mix and match the look they want to go for. It the simple principle of “sell to 100 people something worth $10 instead of selling to 2 people something worth $100”.

That outfit is awesome especially for my sylvaris, but for the boots. I’d be all over it if not for the boots. It’s like wearing Uggs with an evening gown. Let me guess, a man designed it.

Personal Opinion of HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Anyandrell.6238

I like it. Do I play the map daily? No. Do I enjoy the new map? yes. It took a little to adapt/learn as it was harder than Tyria but once I got my elites and better geared myself, it’s just fine. Do I die sometimes? Of course. And I learn how to deal with various “frogs that dodge and shoot ya”. I don’t enjoy a “pewpewpew skill 1 skill 1 skill 1 autoattack” game. The expansion is stimulating enough for the money. I know the metas are time-gated but I have yet to see the day in which I wouldn’t find a meta going on in one of the maps – or at least other adventures and things to do – every time I decide to play in the HoT map.

There are other areas of the game that I’d like to see improvement, but this one is fairly ok.

Tyria masteries perks effect in HoT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Anyandrell.6238

I was just wondering if the masteries earned that apply in central Tyria would also affect what happens in the HoT map. More precisely, the 4th and 5th perks that are obtained in the Pact Commander mastery line. Do they apply to what we do in the HoT map or are they valid only for central Tyria maps? I am referring to resurrecting fallen allies faster and with less penalties and the autoloot.

Forum for metas

Ok, I see many many threads with complaints about “how people don’t know how to run a meta and because of them the meta fails”.

There is a forum that deals with fractals, dungeons and raids where people can post strategies and whatnots in these areas.

Could we get one for metas? I know that there are several websites out there that give information about that, but it would be really nice to have that information on the actual GW2 forum, instead of having people googling all over the place, getting sometime wrong information or just plain getting too frustrated looking for the info and just jumping in the meta doing whatever they were able to understand to do.

I actually knew about this stuff, and had the necklace “of the cat” in my bank for a while – forgot where I got it, dungeon? world boss? – and when I hit 80 with the necro I thought that a celestial would do ok for a while until I get her a condi one. But by then my mind was all fuzzy and forgot about the effect.

Thank you again.

OMG thank you so much guys! I had the Oontz necklace of the cat equipped and didn’t realize it was giving this effect! I had surgery 3 days ago and I’m still fuzzy brained from anesthesia and still taking pain medicine, and couldn’t figure out what was going on! I was to the brink of tears, seriously. Been working hard to make a “snow-white reaper” and was so frustrated.Thank you bunches!

Almighty Dervisher, I think it might be the ley-line chest that has greenish hues. But definitely white glow on white hair on sylvari gives a greenish-bluish-purplish iridiscence on specific hair styles (this is one of them).

Again thank you so much all!

Ok, I have this really irritating problem with one of my characters. She is a Sylvari, pure white, with white glow. In the character selection screen she shows white. In game, she shows a dark grey. Even when dressed, with her clothes dyed white, the clothes appear also dark grey.
This is really irritating especially because I have purchased a make-over kit to make her specifically bright white and suddenly instead I got this dark grey thing going on

This is how it looks in the character selection screen; then in game, both without and with clothes. And another Sylvari character I have that is white, that shows white, with white clothes. Compare the two. Seriously, I’ve spent so much time to bring the char to 80, spent money on make-over kit, then this happens?

Why I think HoT failed

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Anyandrell.6238

Anyandrell.6238

I’m not sure it is a failure at all. HoT added a lot of things that are pretty decent.

#1: Harder enemies. I’ve been wanting that for awhile.
#2: Elaborate maps and more involved maps. Always a good thing.
#3: A metroid style of progression where you gain the ability to explore new areas.
#4: The elite specializations are awesome (if a bit power-creepy), and I like playing as most of them.
#5: A large series of collections and achievements for completionists.
#6: Some pretty cool looking skins.
#7: Events that are actually fun to do.

So, I like the xpac, and from what I’ve heard it has sold really well, so I wonder what your standard of failure is.

Agreed on that one.

My issue though is, give me at least the same number/quality of drops that another map gives me for the same amount of time put in. Otherwise, as much fun as it is, I will definitely not repeat the experience that much . What’s the use of doing DS and wasting one hour if for the same amount of time and effort I get 10 times more stuff in Silverwastes? Yea, more boring, but when you work on your ascended stuff you need to look at the drops too.

No, Stitch, I didn’t. But I’ve left it to update overnight so I’m good to go now. We’ll see this evening if I still experience dc. I guess that what made my frustration worse was the fact that I dced right before landing at the chest place so I’ve wasted so much time for nothing. I had done the meta this time on purpose because I needed the mistward piece for the collection.
I don’t know, yesterday was just a bad day altogether. Twice tried to do Modniir and the event was bugged (pre wouldn’t start) so couldn’t get the collection item for precursor. Fen event also bugged for same collection. Bauxite event bugged as well in Malchor’s Leap, so three bugged events for a collection that if you don’t complete, can’t continue with your masteries.
Then I got dced once during a DS meta and never was able to rejoin the map with the guildies. But that was at the start of the meta. Then waited, played other stuff (see above) and got frustrated, then the second meta dc.
Not a good day at all.

I don’t do that because I, well, have issues with jumping in general because of medical condition to my hands. I say that before we even enter fractals, and I have NEVER been kicked out of a group, on the contrary, people were always very nice and, for example, in the asura fractal they’ve always waited for me to make my way up. Was never able to jump on those poles and have always fought Mossman the normal way with no issues.

Stuck on both the Bauxite event and on the Modniir Ulgoth event (several attempts in a row the pre of the event never started). Also when doing the Fen event (for Twilight collection) the ghost of Elisa never appeared.
It’s a little extreme to have THREE events in a collection bugged. How are we supposed to advance? I’m to the point that I got the third mastery in legendary trained but can’t advance because of these bugs.

As someone who has leveled up two guardians and two necros, necro wins by far as easiest to level. Even at level 80, I still prefer the necro. Because guardian does have to sacrifice damage for survivability, while necro doesn’t – that shroud makes all the difference

There still is at least one “burn” skill per weapon. Some of the direct damage is increased if the enemy is on “burn”. I think staff (esp) and dagger are the best example of the burning applied by ele. That is what I meant when I said “fire elementalist”.

Without HoT – Death Shroud power necro.
With HoT – Power reaper.

In any way, the necro will breeze through every thing. Of course when you just start you will kind of HAVE to start with minions as you’ll be rather squishy. But about level 45 you can start switching towards the DS power build. Very strong damage (mind you not direct but very fast and efficient kills) and fairly tanky as DS necro, fast direct hit damage and outlives pretty much everybody in tankiness as power reaper.

Personally I am really bothered by this, as my main playing characters are both clothies (ele and necro) so it’s a real pain to get their ascended gear done. I know it can be switched between characters but why have to do that all the time instead of fixing a game mechanic that is right now is obviously broken.

Should I re-roll my ele

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Anyandrell.6238

I have doubles as classes in different races. For example, my first guardian was asura, but she came up so cute that (I know, it sounds silly) after I got her all to lvl 80 nicely geared and everything I went ahead and made a sylvari guardian. Just couldn’t stand to have her in the middle of a battle. Now she’s just hanging around in cities and does holiday events. I’m fine with that.
Also have a Norn ranger (my very first char but third to level to 80) that I just got tired of hearing and also, for me Norns just look slow. So there she went, all geared up and pretty, now spends time in Rata Sum happily crafting and making me money. And I made another Ranger – a sylvari as it made more sense to bring a sylvari in HoT for the thrills.
I have a thief that I never brought past 20. I just can’t make myself like the thief playstyle. But because she was my 4th character made, now she sits in RS and does a great job as a mule and sale money collector.
I’m in the process to level a second sylvari necromancer just because the first is a power reaper, and I want to have one that would be a condi necro. I’m just having fun.
Even if you don’t want to spend RL money for another character slot, it’s not a biggie to make the gold to buy the gems.
If you have fun leveling up, actually see running around in maps and doing stuff as fun, go ahead and make another elementalist. Your existing one can be a mule and crafter. And get all the birthday presents.

There was a time GW2 was Casual Friendly

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Anyandrell.6238

Anyandrell.6238

As much as I’ve been a veteran – wait it’s “faithful” now – in the past year I have been a very casual casual player – just health issues.
Nevertheless, I still find the game a lot of fun. I still am able to enjoy a lot my 1-2-3 hours every 2 or 3 days or so.
Yes, HoT is harder than core. As I was only able to get HoT in the beginning of December, I didn’t have time to do much. I didn’t even uncover the whole map. Most of the time I have no idea where I’m going. If there’s an event (map event or otherwise) I join, if not, I just run around to discover things and do PS (LS?). I do that alone most of the time (being a reaper helps when it comes to solo), of course I’ll die now and then, but the sky doesn’t fall because of that.
I managed to craft a few ascended, I’m working on a legendary, and even with playing so little I still make enough gold a month to purchase at least a couple thousand gems.
Didn’t do raids yet, true.
I think I’m a fairly skilled player, got good gear, but – most importantly – I play Guild Wars not Fashion Wars and I guess that is the main reason why I am still fully enjoying the game even being a casual player. I don’t care about PvP rank, Masteries rank, yes, I do fractals, not yet to top, but the thing is – I play to relax and have fun. I don’t see the game as some kind of competition and virtual life in which I HAVE to have all the perks that I don’t have IRL. The only thing that irritates me is sometimes there are things that are behind JP achievements – as I can’t do JPs very well due to said medical conditions. But then I turn around and say “you know, I don’t really NEED that” and off I go to have fun somewhere else.
Maybe that’s the secret of the casual player? I have to admit it kind of goes against Anet’s goals because a player like me won’t spend much.

Vanilla necro is boring? I have all classes at 80 except thief and eng (just don’t like to play that). with one sylvari and one other race for each. I love playing the sylvri the most, and the one I play the most overall is my sylvari vanilla necro (DS). Followed by the sylvari ele. I don’t have yet a reaper as I had to take a break from the game and only started playing again now and then for about two weeks now, I am sure I will love the reaper but until then please don’t diss the vanilla necro. Not everybody has the same opinion and not all vanilla necros are the same – I am talking PVE vanilla necro as you were saying. Anyway, here’s two sylvari, necro and ele, in slightly different skins, so you can see how much you can do with sylvari.

Sorry for being a party pooper – I do anxiously look forward to the release date of HoT.
Just that right now I got some bitter thoughts. As previous posters said, those were hours and hours and hours spent to acquire those skills. Hours and hours and hours of my life that I spent because there was a clear, defined reward. Now there isn’t. Nobody knows what will happen to what was acquired through all that time spent.
And of course we’ll have to re-learn a whole mechanic and such. Which, don’t get me wrong, I don’t complain about, it will be fun. But then again, I could do that with a whole new game. As in another game than GW2. One for which I don’t have a resentment somewhere in the back of my mind for Anet not giving a rat’s dry kitten about my time. As they don’t give about a whole array of things and treat their players like a mass of kittens who are supposed to swallow whatever table scraps are thrown at them.
Ah, and yes, Moderator, don’t forget to suspend me. That will definitely help tremendously and will make this 40+ y.o. woman all of a sudden gain a lot of respect for you and Anet.

You don’t say? I noticed that my “power” death shroud necro actually kills faster than my elementalist and survives longer than the warrior or even the guardian. Valid in groups too. The only reason I can’t play with my necro in dungeons/fractals is well known. But for solo I go necro all the way. Add to that the swiftness and it makes her my favorite character to play from all my 7 level 80s.

In other news~ I’ve never heard of a red pands and never imagined it wouldn’t look like a panda. So GW2 has given me a TIL moment. I saw it back when it was datamined though.

Kudos for the word “minipetation”. Anyway, as a bit of trivia, the red panda is actually what you see in the icon of Mozilla Firefox. It’s not a fox. “Firefox” is actually a nickname for the red panda. Other names include “red bear-cat”, and “fire cat”. They are not related to the panda bears, but to the weasel, raccoon and skunk.

Red Panda poorly done

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Anyandrell.6238

Anyandrell.6238

I wanted to get one and when I saw it I changed my mind. It’s very poorly done. Especially the legs, they are too thin and too short. The general shape of the body and especially the running looks like a badger’s not like a red panda’s. The red panda has longer legs, much thicker, the hind legs are slightly longer than the front ones, and the legs appearance is a little bow-legged. The real red panda’s run is very different than that of the mini, it doesn’t look like the belly is almost touching the ground and it doesn’t “slither” like a badger the way the mini does. On the red panda you can actually see every step, it has a little bit of a spring in the step when it walks/runs the way a fox or coyote has.

That is even before talking about the coloring, that shows some poor attempt to a gradient, and the lighter hue of the gradient on the mini is on the back, instead of being on the sides like the real animal looks like. Also the stripes on the tail as well as the spots on the head are not contrasted enough. This video is of red pandas – the mini is some kind of animal with vague similarities to a red panda.

Thank you Guild Wars 2 staff.

If they do have a medical condition then indeed they should see a doctor. That said I have yet to hear of a condition where viewing an in game character with their arms out making air plane noises causes medical distress. Like I said, hyperbole and the use of such does not help the person’s complaint.

Seriously? Now, if they have a medical condition they know they have it because they have already seen a doctor. And you telling them to go see one is rude and insensitive. Does that make too much sense for you?
