If the hearts in GW2 are grind compared to, let’s say, “kill 75 rats” in Wow, then I don’t know what can give a stronger troll whiff than this.

I never liked Factions. Kaineng looks absolutely horrible. The market was and is so inundated with South-Korean and other Asian games so Factions just seems another Asian game. Story was weak.
Prophecies is still my most beloved GW1, followed by Nightfall and EOTM. TBH I played Factions just to say that I played it and to get a few of the elite boss skills. Then never set my virtual foot back on Cantha.

I can assure you that my intention was not to bring to court or take any legal action. I just wanted to draw attention that in the gemstore there is a false advertising and the wording should be changed, as companies can never be careful enough on this type of matter.
Do not get me wrong, it’s highly probable that I would have still bought the make-over kits just because they were on sale (I use at least two a month, I can never make my characters look good enough, lol) but the whole thing has left me with a bitter taste.

Filaha, no, that does not work that way. “New” must be “new on the market”, in commercial law legalese. Not new for the person.

False advertising for sure. It doesn’t matter what is stated in a ToS or in a contract, if it is not conformely (or if it is against) the law, it is null. That from the legal point of view.

And yes, “new” means “new”, not “oh we released it several good months ago but we consider them new”.

Of course I will not take them to court for 10 or 20 bucks. But it just makes ArenaNet look pitiful and tiny tiny. You know that feeling of “just don’t tell me that it’s rain” when someone lies to your face. When you feel ashamed for them.

And once again we get shoved in a lvl 1 area (!!!) to do events – Metrica province – and AGAIN fractals. So Anet can say goodbye to any new player who started today and made an Asura as first character.

You’re assuming a new player will be more concerned with getting events done than exploration, and hearts and vistas and such don’t count for the daily, so people aren’t farming those.

Additionally, you’re assuming that someone will be immediately turned off of the game because they see activity, when it could be more of a reason for them to stick around because they see the game is still active with lots of people running around.

You shouldn’t assume you know how every player will feel about anything.

You don’t read the forums much about this, do you? There have been numerous posts EXACTLY about what I said in my post.

Really someone there should start inquiring about a job at MickyD because their basic knowledge (or lack thereof) of MMO market playerbase is definitely more adequate for that kind of job instead of working GW2.

The Removing of Weapon Skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Anyandrell.6238

Anyandrell.6238

Why were the removed? Same reason the various infinite gathering tools are only around temporarily. If things are around all the time people will put off getting them because you can get them any time. If you make it a limited time availability people will feel a certain urgency to get them the next time they are available because you won’t know when they might be coming back.

TL;DR It’s to get procrastinators to buy more stuff.

Or, more likely, people will put off buying other stuff and wait for what they want to come back in the gem store.

Because as a general idea, a smart merchant offers as much of a wide variety they can give to increase sales. You sell more if you have 100 different items for sale than if you only offer 20. We’re not talking Rembrandt paintings here. If people want a neverending harvesting tool, they will buy it no matter if it’s a burning axe, small golem or frozen dragon tooth. If people want a specific mini, they will not buy another one just because the one they want is on sale only in Wintersday. They will wait until Wintersday to buy what they want. And if it’s not there then either, oh well, there’s always a Pizza Hut around to spend your money on.

Doh.

Applause @Vix.

Also, try and think for a moment that many of the “naysayers” here on the forum are adults, young at heart maybe but not that young really, and they have played MMOs since.. well, since MMOs first started. And they have seen many many of them take off with fireworks and then plunge desastruously. I could make a list, but it would be futile. These players are able to recognize the very signs that the game is on a downfall.

What GW2 promised 2 years ago can barely be found anymore in the game. I.e. Many people buy the game and try it due to the review Angry Joe has done on Youtube. If you haven’t watched that, try and watch it and think what is left of all the things that everybody was so enthusiastic about.

OP “What on Earth makes you think that you know how to manage an MMO better than the people who have been successfully doing it for more than 2 years?”

Suggestion - actual Guild Wars

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Anyandrell.6238

Anyandrell.6238

Ok, this suggestion might sound a little bit radical, but, in view of the complete mess that has been done with the multiserver and also, considering the very story that gave the game it’s name:

Why not actually re-design completely WvW into actual GvG? there are three orders in the game, twist the story so there will be again a rise of guilds, three of them, and every player would be able to chose a guild – from the start or later in the game when they so choose to go to the battlefield. To avoid imbalances, make it so if a guild doesn’t have enough players then the only option would be to chose that specific guild. Give the same benefits to the winning guild (%karma, gold find, etc) and make the present WvW multiserver as well – so if one map doesn’t have enough players they would be able to switch to a map with more players.

Just a suggestion. I know it probably has some flaws but I am sure others can come with ideas that could overcome them.

There. You hit the nail on the head.
In my many years of working experience, this is exactly the type of thing that someone who desperately wants to justify their paycheck (but knows they actually do not deserve it as they aren’t really qualified) would do. And that a boss that doesn’t really care about the results, and has the paycheck safely secured, would approve. I’ve seen it soooo many times.

vistas are vistas that most 80s have seen long time ago.
Not everybody does crafting. Even so. Crafting +vista is 2 dailies. Not 3.
The whole idea (if you didn’t get it yet) is that before you were doing the dailies while enjoying playing the game the way you wanted. Now you must interrupt what you are doing to go out of your way to do things back in beginner maps. Also it causes disturbances and frustrations in the beginner areas.

I did get a strong whiff of troll tho.

The way I see the new dailies is:

You buy an expensive ticket for a high-end restaurant.
You get there by a limo that picks you from home, nice building, French doors, crystal chandeliers, a Maitre d’ takes your coat and accompanies you to a door, he opens it for you and says “your private dining room”
You go in, there’s a loooong hall and a sign “You must first wash your hands; sink is that way”; you walk for about 10 minutes through the winding corridor and finally get to the sink to wash your hands.
But wait! There is one more sign “please pick up your silverware, that way”. You walk again for another 5 minutes, and finally find a small serving table with your silverware neatly wrapped in a pretty napkin. And a sign “for your dinner, that way”
You walk again for another 5 minutes, and you reach a prettily dressed table, with a nice plate with a fancy lid. You lift the lid, inside is a can of baby food and a note “you must eat this before getting the dinner you paid for”. You sigh and eat it, then another sign drops from the ceiling “your dinner is that way”.
After another 10 minutes of walking, you finally get to your dinner. But the steak is cold, the lobster congealed on the serving platter and the ice-cream has melted.
As you get out of the building, you try to say something as a critique and a horde of people come and start banging you over the head with signs of “free dinner” shouting “be thankful you got dinner, if you don’t like it go to McDonalds”.

No part of the daily is required for you to do any other content in game. They are 100% optional. Whining about being told what to do in order to get a specific reward in a video game is just silly. Itd be like whining that needing do dungeons to get dungeon armor is also the devs “controlling you”.

Also, like the other 50 people in this thread have said, you should have just skipped the event and crafted an essence of luck which wouldnt take more than 30s. And if people didnt know how to do that, making a thread asking for advice would still take a lot less time than these posts take to write.

Sorry, do you realize how ridiculous you sound? Assuming that nobody but you knows the essence of luck trick (btw, I don’t need to do essences of luck, I craft at least a dozen exotics daily and yes, I got all my crafts to max. All.), that everybody “whines”. No, I do not whine. I stand up for myself, having the audacity to demand that what I paid for has quality. Going on the assumption way, I presume that when you order filet mignon and pay ahead, if they serve you a chalupa you just happily eat it because you don’t want to sound like a whiner?

I simply tried to make the new daily fun. The way the old one was. It didn’t work. It will not work. Happy tailwagging.

Old system: I would do the number of kills, gathering, etc while I was doing what was necessary for my character(s) to move forward (mapping, PS, LS, etc). While I was ACTIVELY PLAYING THE GAME in a way I liked to play it. Not at all spoonfed, on the contrary, making my way through Orr or Dry Top or Maelstrom.
New system: I have to waste 10-15 minutes to get back in a beginning area, where I have to view a vista that I had previously viewed (map completion doh) and it makes me feel bad for all the lower levels who are desperately trying to accomplish something in that map.

And yes, I know perfectly what I’m talking about: take the assault on Nebo terrace for example. I just happen to be leveling a new Guardian and she was in that map. The event got so upscaled due to the hordes of level 80s there that my poor level 34 couldn’t make one step without being killed. Change of tactics, switched to my level 80 necro. By the time I got there, the event was so upscaled that there were 3 champ tramplers per square pixel and a complete cacophony of light, skill effects, shouts, rallying and dead players and still couldn’t do much because of how upscaled it was so the event failed.

Tbh, this whole thing of “go in THAT specific map do to this specific thing” is a control issue syndrome. When before we could do that specific thing no matter where we were, does it make sense to you to force you to go back to a lower level map? Nobody gets the “control freak” hint at all? Does it feel good to be told “sit” and “stay” after you paid money to play a game the way it would be enjoyable for you?

More variety of options for achievements

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Anyandrell.6238

Anyandrell.6238

I know I am not the only one in this position, as I have met many people in the game who are facing the same issue. There are people who have various medical conditions that do not allow them to do fine-tuned finger motion activities like jumping puzzles or bell choir. Personally, I have nerve damage in my hands and fingers that is due to cancer treatment. That makes me unable to do activities that require fine coordination. I am fine in regular game, but when it comes to jumping puzzles, or worse, the bell choir, I can not do it. I used to be excellent at these things, but now… it makes it exceptionally frustrating to not be able to get an achievement or a title because .. well because your health issues do not allow you to do so.

I AM a hard core gamer. I play at least 3 hours daily, and this game has at times been the only thing that kept my spirits up when I was going through tough stuff. I would really like to be able to get some of these achievements and titles, I put in a lot of time and effort (and yes, even RL money as I am a vanity-driven person and I would spend quite a bit on gems).

Would there be possible to have more options at least for the festivals for people like me? Like, I don’t know, gather a bazillion ugly sweaters or something. Because right now I have 10 out of 11 achievements done, but the rest is either doing the jumping puzzle or the bell choir. I can’t. I physically can’t. It is very frustrating.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not whining. I am used to not being able to do many things that I wasn’t able to before the big C happened. But I would really really appreciate if there were more options in getting the achievements that would avoid one of them being a mandatory fine-coordination one. Again, I know I am not the only one in the game who has medical issues and faces this.

Please, Anet?

Raine,

Allow me to disagree. IF the algorithms calculating the damage depending on traits/gear/weapon/trinkets are different for each class, then there will be no meta. There will be SEVERAL metas, applicable for each class and for different types of encounters (be them PVE or PVP), i.e. a different DPS/survivability build for each class for Orr, let’s say (where you have mobs with heavy condition appliers) compared to let’s say Harathi Hinterlands or the CoF. Would that make the necessity for larger storage for each type of gear per character? Yes. Would that make more work to make an “ideal” main you bring to various events/dungeon/PvP? Yes. Would that require more money spent per lvl 80 character and more work to get what you need? Yes.

Would that make the game (and especially the end-game) more interesting and challenging? In my opinion, yes. Of course, opinions differ.

I am not talking about reliance on gear…. I am talking about the gear complementing the class and the traits and the weapon – a whole package. The build creation was a wonderful idea but stopped way short of the mark.

I think YOU should go back to WoW because you don’t even realize that you are actually promoting their cookie-cutter style, exactly on the no-brainer-gear-reliance (in our case zerker). The model of “we’ll give them something to feel strong the easy way, to he** with skill and individuality”, make cash fast.

With the way things are now pretty much all gear that is not berserker is more or less useless, and just the affordable thing for players who don’t have much gold. The Sinister is a joke as long as the condition applier doesn’t work properly and is trumped by zerker no matter the class.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Anyandrell.6238

Yes but it’s still not well applied and doesn’t trump zerker. They should work on the condition to work like might in groups, with a cap of 25 and all that.

The way I see it, each class should have it’s strength that should add to the group, be it might, condition, boon or debuff. Each gear status to be actually applicable to that and coordinated to the class traits and weapon used. THEN you will really have skilled play and balanced PVE and balanced dungeon groups, where no class will be left behind the way it happens now. Imagine a dungeon group where the warrior provides the might, the ranger the precision, the thief the evade, the necro the debuff, the ele the conditions, the mesmer the confusion and the guardian the boons. With each class able to provide a secondary strength but in a lower percentage than the main one (i.e. guardian boon primary might secondary or ele condition primary precision secondary)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Anyandrell.6238

I agree with OP,, The idea isn’t about choosing what to play or damage being more effective. It’s the illogical way it’s done, that is why berserker is “king”.
I.e., for fire elementalists, zerker SHOULDN’T be more efficient than carrion, for example. Why? Because their damage is a condition – burn. It’s not about what force they throw the fire with (power) or how accurate (precision) or how much critical (ferocity) but how much burning . So for an elementalist, carrion gear should work the best. It doesn’t. IF it were a gear with TWO main attributes and one secondary (i.e. condition+ferocity primary, power secondary) that would be the ideal for an elementalist. Also, it should be so that certain traits should be complementing certain stats on gear depending on the class and type of weapon used, and they don’t.

The thing is that the gear attributes should be actually applicable to the class’s strength, not just one-size-fits-all-even-if-it-doesn’t-make-sense-because-it’s-easier-on-devs. THEN you will see real skill and real customization of characters, not cookie cutter.

As much as they went away from the cookie-cutter with the elimination of the “trinity”, they went back to it due to the poor implementation of gear statuses coordinating to class traits.
