If you tend to panic and toss any explosive thing you can find, I’d suggest using a Pistol for the AoE Auto attack, with Condition Specs and Survivability… I took this then leaned towards more of a Burst-type build, and you may do the same depending on your play style ;o

A New Kit: Defining Bunker Engi

in Engineer

Posted by: Archaeopteryx.7409

Archaeopteryx.7409

I love the idea! It’s fresh and original from the ‘texas chainsaw massacre’ kits. But I feel using the kit would be a problem. A barrier can be nice to block off things, but finding a balance between OP (blocking of an entire zerg in WvW) and useless (placing the barrier and it gets one shotted by a ranger) could be hard.

And on a second thought, it would even more fit to introduce this kit simultaniously with a new weapon for the engineer: the hammer!

About the Hammer… I feel there’re too many Weapons in terms of kits, and for the Ranger bit, I was hoping that it could be similar to the Dredge Barriers in one of the Dungeons, where it cannot be affected by Critical Hits… And yeah, it depends on the situation whether it’s useless or OP, as can be said about some/most other Kits-this one just takes a different approach I guess

A New Kit: Defining Bunker Engi

in Engineer

Posted by: Archaeopteryx.7409

Archaeopteryx.7409

What about something which you can place down, like a Barrier? This could be a new kit: to place down several different sized barriers to protect Zergs, Block Damage or even more like replace bugged Skills…

I’d look forward to this, to be honest, and whenever I look on Forums and see Engi being a good ‘Bunker’ class, I can relate to building barriers!

It wouldn’t be OP, because it would block damage from both in front and behind the Barrier and it would have limited ‘health’ so it can block some ranged attacks and stop enemies from charging into a specific zone, creating a more realistic fight in terms of using positioning more wisely and it would probably grant more build diversity and encourage people not to think that Engi is just a copy of classes and has nothing unique besides from overused kits and bugged Turrets.

Kit-Wise, I’m thinking of it having some slim Metal barriers, wide barriers and some barriers that can be placed on top of two verticle barriers with less health, meaning that aerial attacks are encouraged.
I can only see this as being a problem for AoE attacks, but that could easily be the counter, as well as things like big explosions affecting wide areas.

Traiting could consist of more health for the barriers and longer durations. The Tool Belt of this Skill could be to place down a ‘shelter for allies’. The Skills of the Kit could be:
1> “Place Slim Barrier” ‘Place a thin sheet of slim metal down at your location’ (Cast Time: 1 second Refresh Time: 20 Seconds)
2> “Place Wide Barrier” ‘Place a thin sheet of wide metal down at your location’ (Cast Time: 1 second Refresh Time: 20 Seconds)
3> “Place Roof Barrier” ‘Requires two Vertically placed metal sheets-Place a thin sheet of metal as a roof for the barriers’ (Cast Time: 2 seconds Refresh Time: 30 seconds. Health: 1,200 [same for all sheets 1-3, scales with level] Duration: 15 seconds [same for all sheets])
4> “Barrier of Warding” ‘Place a very thin, electrified sheet of wide metal down to stun foes who touch it’ (Cast Time: 1.5 seconds Refresh Time: 40 seconds. Radius: 120 Stun: 0.75 seconds. Health: 600)
5>* “Industrial Refinement” ‘Spin around repairing any sheets of metal nearby and granting you and nearby allies relatialtion.* (Cast Time: 5 seconds Refresh Time: 35 seconds. Radius: 360 Amount Healed per hit: 150. Amount of Hits: 5. Grants Retaliation for 10 seconds)
Belt Utility> *"Metal-Work Shelter" ’Instantly create a very thin shelter at your location for allies to use’* (Cast Time: 3 seconds Refresh Time: 60 seconds. Duration: 45 seconds. Health: 750)

As I felt the Engineer lacked in putting effort towards committing to teammates, I felt something new would help, especially as, after reading threads, it seems to greet problems people face like: the Mortar making you an easy target once deployed and used, Turrets being a bit useless (both this and mortar can be used as an extra kick of power whilst you’re behind helpful cover), too much of the same Kit usage, repetition and copying mechanics of other classes. I didn’t want the stats to be too weak in terms of health and such, but I didn’t want them to be seen as too strong either, so that’s about perfect of what I’d expect them to be at if it was actually a thing.

Anyone think this would be a good idea? Or a bad one?

Personally, i wouldn’t want that. Would make it way too hard to keep an overview in a fight. If they should ever do this, than it should be for the person using it only.

Or an option to toggle on/off as with team colours.

This is actually the better option as it would still allow someone to “boast” with their color.

As with team colors, i would like this to default to standard colors.

YES. YES. Makes sense for ANet to add this now. Thank you for the feedback!!!

Archaeopteryx.7409

I don’t know about you guys & gals, but I feel annoyed at seeing Pink Butterflies everywhere when I take Mesmer seriously! I’m not usually one to complain about default class styles, but seriously: I would much prefer a Consumable item in the Gem Store to be able to choose from a selection of colours within the Default Profession’s colour spectrum, to change the colour of their Spells/Skills so possibly a Purpley Colour or a nice Scarlet Red for Mesmer… I would pay Gems for that, I don’t know about you people, but it’s something I’d recommend to be put in seasonally for each professions colour Range!

… What I mean by colour range is basically the shades of each Profession’s default colour in relation to Seasons… So, a Guardian with their Icy-Blue Spells could have a Consumable Colour-Changer released in the Winter months, or on special occasions like Christmas.

I feel the Pros of this are money income for ANet in terms of serving more diverse play-styles, not just from builds, Gear stats, blahblahblah, but more of a Cosmetic Play Changer… Could well attract customers wanting a change like me
The only Con I can see from this is it being seen as useless, or even a waste of money (especially if it would cost about 1,000 Gems)-this is arguably down to preference though, as could be said about the Armour Skins. But I also feel some people would think it will tear away from the entire ‘you choose what you get’ concept, if you know what I mean-Guardian: expect Blue Flames, relation to Cleansing; Ranger: expect Green in relation to Nature… But the Colour Changers could be related to the original colours but just in different Shades… Just a thought I assumed would be good to mention I guess.

>Apologies if this Thread was already made!!!!!’<

I put this here as an example to what feedback can be given in relation to it affecting a Mesmer Profession and their Colour Scheme, in order to relate later to other Professions… FEEL FREE TO SHARE FROM BOTH SIDES!

Mesmer or Engi for Confusion?

in Engineer

Posted by: Archaeopteryx.7409

Archaeopteryx.7409

Ok, but let’s be honest here: Engineer is open to Two Main Skills (without counting the Pistol #3 because that’s only 2 stacks and can only really count when there’re two nearby targets and stacks 4 for a short period of time) which can apply (without aid of the runes at the moment) 10 Confusion Stacks for, let’s say, 10 seconds: if you miss one of these stacks, which is more likely than a Mesmer stacking confusion, that’s a big, long-ish recharge to wait to risk it again in a close-ranged smack-one of which, the Concussion Bomb, is very easily avoidable. With the Runes, I’m able to stack up to 12 seconds of that 10 Confusion Stacks, plus the extras from the Runes and the Pistol #3 Skill… Coming to about ~17 which can last 4 seconds before it is taken down to 13 then lasts 3-5 seconds before lasting ~4-6 seconds of the remaining 10 stacks… From firstly applying the Stacks all in one go, I need to wait about 12-15 seconds, depending on the training and runes, etc.

With Mesmer, I’m pretty much able to Channel around the same amount over a long, long range which can’t really be missed, because of the channeling-type attack; I understand the stacks aren’t as high, but I can Trait and Rune the Confusion out to get about 8-11 stacks of, I think, 8-10 seconds of Confusion just on one Shatter Skill. I can then stack even more from a lovely range. I don’t know about you guys, but I definitely don’t feel Engineer is right with Confusion… It’s just weird to play and I feel more comfortable on my Mesmer, probably meaning I can play the Mesmer out better in terms if surviving and stacking, but in all fairness, Engi is more of a survivable class, especially as my Build for it is. Ore Tanky than my Bursty Mesmer. Then again, having Mesmer being Bursty which is complimentary to the Confusion stacking yet can have access to the most Invulnerability, default survivability and (second best?) escape-based skills, I feel more secure about playing Mesmer out to the whole Confusion spec. May seem weird for you full-time Engis hahah, I kinda switched main and back from Engi to (either) Ranger or Mesmer… Just suits me personally. Heck, might even switch to Thief, probably not at the moment though.

Mesmer or Engi for Confusion?

in Engineer

Posted by: Archaeopteryx.7409

Archaeopteryx.7409

Mesmers mostly stack confusion, bleeding and a bit of torment. Engineers chuck out a far wider range, and with runes of perplexity / bomb kit/ sigils of torment can add confusion and torment to list that already includes burning, bleeding, poison, vulnerability, chill and blind. This maximises the benefit of your +condi damage armor and trinkets and makes it really hard for the opponent to clean all conditions off (particularly cos you can just reapply them in moments). Mesmers oth have better burst damage; both have good (albeit different) utility. Personally think condi damage build engineer out-conditions Mesmer just from range of stuff you apply.

That’s the problem, and that’s why I’m looking more towards to Mesmer (which is also because I prefer the Mesmer Gameplay for my personal preference).

I prefer to focus a specific condition… That isn’t possible for the ones I wanted to stack consistently on my Engineer if I’m honest, and even if I did manage a 15 stack consistently on Confusion or something similar, it wouldn’t feel right for how I’d play and it relating to the Engi

Maybe you’ve unlocked every skill and know every trait, and have your legendary… what’s left? Well these new skills will keep you progressing without constantly inflating your power and making it impossible for others to catch up. Along with the new system, new ways and activities to earn skill points will be added and there won’t be some insane grind to obtain them. It’ll be much like the current system of unlocking skills. What’s more is that the team is also working very kitten finding a way to make it so that every profession has access to every weapon and their own weapon skills for those previously locked weapons. Engineer plus Hammer? Check. Again, there’s no specific timeline for this, but a new progression system is coming. Finally those level 80s you’ve been hoarding will get some use, as they’ll be adding more and more skills and traits to the game for years to come and on a regular basis for players to obtain.

I’ve got to agree, personally because of Build diversity, but if ANet are going to ‘nerf’ the ‘Nader kits in terms of Traits, they should at least listen to what we can recommend via complimenting the Standard Weapons (pistol, rifle, shield) and maybe even Turrets as they’re buggy-that’s what I’d ask for in replacement for all the Grenade-Boosting Traits.

Mesmer or Engi for Confusion?

in Engineer

Posted by: Archaeopteryx.7409

Archaeopteryx.7409

Right, so I’ve actually put a LOT of thought and effort into making a Condition Class, and after finding my Engi was strong with his Conditions (with the Condi Damage at 1,200) and my previous Builds weren’t great at sticking to a specific Condition, I looked to Confusion, and… I can get a stack of 15-20 for about 7 seconds every 15 seconds with small stacks of 2-5 in between the end of the 15-20 Stacks and the end of its cool down.

I’ve found, weirdly, the Damage for 5 stacks is higher than the damage of 5 stacks on a Mesmer…

I’m questioning whether it’s worth going full Mesmer for the famous stereotypical Confusion Build which is capable of stacking about 20 for about 10 seconds but has less damage and longer cool downs (to get the full 20 stack back on the enemy(s)) than having the Engi slap on a pretty instant 15-20 stack of confusion for 7-10 seconds every 15 seconds… And considering Mesmer is very good at diverting damage to the clones and absorbing damage and literally taking no damage, I’m comparing it with a tanky, high-heal Condition Bunker Engi…

P.S.: my Mesmer is running a Condition/Berserker Build which relates to the Shattering for Confusion stacks, etc etc etc…

I am using the Runes of Perplexity on both classes too, just for your information.

And yes, I do main Engi, so I tend to play better as an Engi than a Mesmer as I’m more experienced with the Class, and because of this, my Engi is my main and is more… ‘Upgraded’ than my mesmer (slightly better gear, enter shared stats for more survivability, Commander Tag, etc.)

My question is, based on all the facts I’ve provided, should I switch to Mesmer in Terms of having a better Confusion Build? I don’t care about Survivability overall as Mesmers are naturally good at surviving with all the invincible skills & clones & stealths, etc.

Thanks!!!

I feel your pain.

Try a Turret Build, or an elixir Build (without the Elixir Gun) or, if you wouldn’t mind using a ToolKit, a Static Discharge Build!

I’m currently testing out a Confusion build and I can manage a stack of 20 Confusion for about 7 seconds with using a ToolKit and Bomb Kit, which is effective to en extent; it depends on your play style really… If I was you, try and make builds as you level, and when you get to level 75+, look more deeply into Exotic Stats and the Non Kit Builds on YouTube (I mentioned some above) in order to get the Build with the Stats you want

Playing Level 5 and considering Builds from a few Kits you own isn’t good enough for this class: I find this is a Hybrid Class, meaning it’s an All Rounded class, so I, personally, found it repetitive (just an FYI for later on :o) and Engineer as a whole leans over to Conditions more than anything, hence why I invested in a specific Conditions which turned out as a good investment.

I feel the same way about Legendaries, especially as they’re 4x the amount as Mjolnir, but one of ANet’s main aims was to discard any unfair methods to getting largely improved Gear, but then again, I agree with what you’re saying, but for the extras to be added onto Mjolnir wouldn’t make a Huge difference compared to the Gear 1 Tier below, so idk what ANet has planned for us this Year, but lets just hope something is applied to suit all Gear if they are going to add to Gear like Mjolnir. I did have a few ideas in mind, but I’ve scrapped them considering what you’ve said

Hi!

I don’t know if a thread has been made on this yet, but:
What Music Would You Associate With Each Profession and/or situation?

I’m eager to hear from anyone about what Bands/Artists/Songs they think goes best with each Profession in various types of gameplay (if you’d like ;o).

So far, I’ve found that Dubstep suits Thieves and Engineers in ‘FireFights’ (Fast-Paced fights with even odds), Heavy Rock, some Death Metal, such as SlipKnot & MiW suits Necromancer in letting all hell loose on enemies in, again, ‘FireFights’, and Indie Rock bands such as Imagine Dragons and some of The XX, MGMT and Warpaint (gotta love them lot so far) suit Guardian, Engineer, Ranger and even Thief in WvW and PvE

What do you think? Can you add to my ridiculously small list? Can you help me get an epic track for specific situations for specific classes? ;D

Btw, as we all know, Artists (?) like Two Steps From Hell suit almost every situation, especially WvWvW because its epic Trailer Music xD Check some songs out if you’re in a WvWvW battle with large groups or in an epic boss fight zone ;D

If your group is that bad, you shouldn’t have gotten all the way to dredge with them. Leave early while you still can.

For me good players are those who can even carry those really bad ones. So if your attitude is to leave – well for me you aren’t a good player then. Bad allies happen in pug groups. Deal with it.

Back to topic: for me stealth works well even with bad pugs.
I just say: " guys come close to me I stealth. Don’t leave circle until it ends"

This always worked for me. Sometimes not for the first try but at the latest at the second try.

Your ability to teach new players has no barring on you being a good player or not. And yes, stealth works even with newbies, but some are just awful at everything and if they are so bad that they can’t even follow directions, that should be apparent from an earlier fractal.

You tend to find they get kicked mid-way in a “good” group ;D

When looking for a Group on either Fractals Of The Mists or Dungeons for fast daily runs, are Boon/Burst/Crit Engineers looked down upon compared to other classes? Obviously I don’t want Smart-kitten to come along and say “HUEHUEHUE, ’Zerker Warriors are obviously better, kittentard!” because that seems to be the answer for most things at the moment; I’m kinda asking for a comparison between Engineer to Necromancer, Thief, Elementalist (not D/D, I know the answer for that ;D) and Ranger, and I’m talking in general-feel free to mention Specific Builds only if you’ve tried/experienced the Build.

How Useful Really Is Forceful Explosions?

in Engineer

Posted by: Archaeopteryx.7409

Archaeopteryx.7409

If in WvW and you rely on the extra damage from bleeding a foe, switch to Shrapnel (especially if you can stack Swiftness to keep close to your enemy(s?)); if you prefer to have the Burst capabilities against (at least) one enemy, with the increased chances of hitting more than one, use Forceful Explosions, but use Shrapnel if you have the Firearms Trait line at 25. If in PvE, I find the enemies run into you like a kitten, then stop for 2 seconds when you move away after they’ve attacked, so Forceful Explosions for that too… If against a Boss/Champ in PvE, the Guild Claimers in WvW or if you’re in Dungeons, I’d suggest the Forceful Explosions if your Build supports it (it’s a must if you have the Healing Bomb Trait), but if your Damage is low in a Tanky Build, switch to Shrapnel for the Extra Bleed damage and -if you can- get the Firearms Trait to 25 for even more damage in Burst & Condition as stated above.

And, FYI, you do realise you can have both if you get Explosions to 20, right?

Hope this was useful! Merry Christmas!

Worth switching Soldier gear for Valkyrie?

in Engineer

Posted by: Archaeopteryx.7409

Archaeopteryx.7409

For roaming, more dps is always better in the hands of a skilled player then toughness. Even the best players start to run when you hit like a truck.

Full Valkyrie is not the optimal choice unless all you ever get hit with is conditions. This isn’t really open for debate, it’s how mitigation works. Your effective hit points are lower going full Valk then having a balance with more toughness. You are just fooling yourself because the effective hit points you gain from toughness are not visible.

For zergs and taking/defending structures, you need toughness period. You don’t always have the option of avoiding damage in confined spaces or when taking ac fire, and the penalty for dying is that you just rallied a bunch of the enemy. And if you cannot take some damage in these fights and stick with your team, you are next to worthless.

I always carry a mix of gear. There is no one gear set that is the best for all situations. I have a full set of rabid, invaders, knights and zerkers, and mix it up depending on the situation. For keep fights I almost always put on the invaders.

I’m running a boon build with the gear and, as I found out today in SE with a group of Zerkers and 1/2 Tanks, I survived better in the long run because my Maintained Boons added up for my loss of toughness. I think you’re kinda right in saying about defending/taking towers, but usually I can “snipe” enemies dealing AoE damage on top of Towers, immediately get a stack of 20-25 Vulnerability, point them out to 1/2 TeamMates and maintain the Stacks & Damage Output to down them in about 5/10 seconds; in this time I usually get down to about 60/70% HP, but with the Engineer being useful in almost very combat situation, 90% of the time I can escape/get back into the stand-off with about 75%+ HP… Gonna be getting some agony Resistance soon too ;D

Also, I’ve found that with my 1 minute of Fury being consistent, I can take out some Raw Precision from my Stats and put it into Survivability/Boon Duration, which is actually working weird enough xD

Is it worth investing in a Torment Build?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Archaeopteryx.7409

Archaeopteryx.7409

Realistically, the answer is no. Necros have only one method of applying Torment, and it’s on a long cooldown with a low stack cap. Thieves have two skills that apply Torment, one of which can be heavily traited to make better and the other which has no cooldown (but it does have practical limitations).

The thief build in particular uses the two summoning skills with a venom share Skale Venom to apply 16 stacks from that skill alone. Add in one P/D#3 and that’s 18 stacks before accounting for runes or sigils.

18 stacks compared to 3. There simply is no contest. Even without using Thieves Guild, it’s still 10 stacks or more on a similar cooldown to Tainted Shackles.

I agree there xD
What would you say to that Build for the Thief all-in-all then?

Oh, and would you think that ANet would see sense and allow Necromancer to more Torment Abilities since it would suit Necro?

Is it worth investing in a Torment Build?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Archaeopteryx.7409

Archaeopteryx.7409

If you want to use a Torment build, Mesmer or Thief are your best bets. I recently saw a build on the thief forums that actually applies 20+ stacks of torment solo, so I would think that is the way to go.

Weird to think that a DPS-based and stereotyped class now beats a Condition-renowned class in terms of a new condition with a mean-sounding name to be honest, but I have to agree…

I don’t really wanna spend about a week levelling up my noobie Human thief though if I’m honest, I’d rather stick with my Necromancer in terms of Conditions as it’s pretty much maxed for what it currently is; would there be any suggestions to (if anything) get a Necromancer with the standard of a Thief’s Condition Build in relation to Torment? I’d love to hear any news/Videos you’ve found

Archaeopteryx.7409

Ok… So I’m running an Apothecary Build at the moment, and I’m LOVING IT, but I feel I could invest in Torment as it’s just one of those things you look at, compare it with a Build you know of, and think: “I’ve gotta test this, even if I’m the first ever person”-after all, that is what Guild Wars 2 promotes.

My Question is:
Is it worth reducing a Stat of mine (from the Apothecary Tree (Toughness, Healing & Condi)) to maximise a Torment Build with excess Healing and sufficient Condition Damage to keep Torment on par with my Bleed stacks? Would it be effective in WvW, PvE & Dungeons/Fractals? Which Professions would it be most effective/least effective at? Why?

I’m sure I’m not the only person looking for answers ;D

From what I’ve been told, DON’T BUY ASCENDED GEAR WITH LAURELS, but buy the T-6 Materials to sell on, max a build, farm Fractals and earn the Ascended Gear from there with the Relics and/or get the odd rare drop. If you’d like, buy the 10 Unidentified Dyes! I bought a stack yesterday and got Abyss, which I’ve gotten 4/5 of the other times I’ve bought the stacks! It’s a pretty common drop rate which is weird.

As for the Karma… Keep it unless the Temple Armour at the Temple Karma Sellers in Orr takes your fancy… But it’s better to be on the safe side and keep the Karma Incase you decide to go for a Legendary, and the same can be said for the Laurels/T-6 Materials you buy with them

Since you said you’d guested on TC I assume you’re on the American servers. In which case I can’t help with suggestions of which ones to use.

But I know I’ve seen it active on several of the more populated EU servers so I would have thought it’d be the same. Look for any server with a lot of people doing PvE generally and you’ll probably find a group there.

No, by saying that I’ve Guested a few so far I didn’t mean I guested TC! Sorry for the inconvenience xD I’m in European Servers

I very rarely see anyone there on TC. I think the last time saw an actual group of people some guild mission was going on or something like that. You don’t need to transfer to check out other servers since you can guest there and see if the map is populated. Try all the very high population servers and see what turns up.

Yeah, I’ve guested a few so far

So… I’m actually really liking the Southsun Cove area altogether, kinda starting from when it was first released, and would actually like to do a few runs of events there, if only there were people there... I’m just asking for opinions on if you think it’s just an unplayed area today and if there are actually groups that do go onto it every so often? If so, what server(s) are most active there? (May consider Transferring server at Christmas ;3)

Thanks!

Stock up on a Boon Build and/or Vitality with Precision & plenty of CCs-usually, I can get opened up on by a Thief, brought down to 30% HP and still win depending on if they play it way too much and are God-Like at it, or if they’re just good ;D

Or just use a Toughness build, they usually work ;3

How about a Crossbow?

in Engineer

Posted by: Archaeopteryx.7409

Archaeopteryx.7409

Personally, I’d like a main-hand weapon with a melee autoattack. Butt-strikes are all well and good, but they’ll have cooldowns, and we have enough ranged main-hand weapons (see: all of the weapons we have that aren’t Kits.)

I’m tired of shooting myself in the face because I happen to leave Pistol #1 on Autoattack mode, don’t use Kits and happen to occasionally fight an enemy with Reflects Projectiles. We already have non-Kit weapon attacks that aren’t autoattacks that also aren’t Projectiles, but they’re on cooldowns, which rather dampens one’s ability to use them in response to “This enemy puts up a reflection bubble and I happen to not be using a build that uses Kits.”

What if Crossbow had an alternating Auto Attack that, if an enemy is too close, the Auto Attack would be to use a singular Arrow to pierce and slash at the enemy like a knife, but just an ordinary bolt at range?

Pretty weird, but okay.

youll do better in wvw when you have 1800ish toughness
seriously the difference in your survivability is obscene

once youre around that, you dont need more vit… engi has enough base hp, and applied fortitude can make you feel warm and fuzzy

I’ve tried both and, trust me, for my Build, Vitality is the better option.

So, I’m pretty much sticking with my Vulnerability-Bursting-Boon build until the Turrets are fixed (which would be a long time).

I’m quite interested in giving up Toughness as it’s an aspect which is unused in my current Build compared to the Fury I’m able to consistently stack, bringing my Precision to 50%, and without firstly realising, this was actually quite good as I got some of the original un-buffed Precision from Berserker & Valkyrie gear via my Rings (I think) and 1/2 other pieces of equipment… I’m wondering whether it’d be useful to change my Expensive Soldier Gear to Valkyrie Gear at Christmas or not, mainly because of the prices and the consideration of the possible upgrade for converting my unused Toughness to Crit Damage… I’d just like some opinions to be honest…

FYI, my Build aspects consist of:
-Boons with Traited Damage Extras from Boons
-Tons of Immobilisation for the consistently good Vulnerability (can maintain 10-15, can peak at 25 for about 5 seconds once every 10-20 seconds or so)
-(At the moment)High Power
-High Vitality (26K HP I believe)
-Some Scattered Stats on some Gear which (at the moment) doesn’t make a difference too much on my Build; can easily Upgrade it to Valkyrie/Soldier though

I’m just questioning whether, considering the prices of the Valkyrie Gear and Soldier Gear, that it’s worth changing one aspect (the Toughness) for a Factor that is dependant on a Boon I can maintain or not which varies in my combat (Necromancers removing boons, etc).

Please share your thoughts, thanks!!!

How about a Crossbow?

in Engineer

Posted by: Archaeopteryx.7409

Archaeopteryx.7409

I think we (Engineers) could use more weapon choices.
I also think we’re more likely to get more weapon choices if those weapon choices are weapons that already exist in-game.
Aside from that, the only issue I might have with this is “All of our main-hand weapon choices are Projectiles. It’d be nice to be able to melee something without having to use a Kit.”

With the idea of a Crossbow, there could be a melee skill or two, either to Smack Foes with the Butt of the Bow, or to even stab them with an arrow if they’re too close and cause either a CC or a Condition like Bleeding or even Vulnerability/Cripple with those two in particular: with a Crossbow being left out of the game and hinted to ANet from Forums and such, ANet will probably keep melee in mind (hopefully) if they consider publishing a Crossbow ;D

What would you guys think to a Crossbow for Engineers, (maybe) Mesmers, (arguably) Warriors and to any other Classes you guys feel it could suit? I think it’d suit Engineer very well, which is arguable considering there’re rifles and such already available for Engineers… I just feel there could be more variation in the Skins, Skills and Build-related variants for Ranged Weapons and/or how they’re used, including actual Play-Styles (via skills and actually personal preference, for example: I love bows but I don’t like Ranger, Thief (for the Shortbow) or Warrior, so there’s that…). I also feel that a Crossbow could introduce a more Ranged Defensive or Offensive set of skills towards the individual Classes using it-this could match Builds, especially for Engineer as I play this Class as well as Mesmer and Necromancer mainly; after looking through Forum posts and such, the idea of a Crossbow seems like it can meet what people are looking for in terms of diversity.

Overall, a Crossbow may cause confusion I think, epically as it’d be a new addition, and may cause complaints about it resulting in it becoming a stereotypical weapon to be placed between Bows and Rifles and avoided by the Classes who use Bows & Rifles, but since I feel the Classes in need of a Crossbow who are missing either a Bow or Rifle (for example, Engineer with the Rifle) are also missing the type(s) of Skills this could offer, I think it may introduce more variation-something ANet wants…

I’m sorry if I’m a little confusing in what I’m saying, it’s getting late here xD
I just feel like… A Crossbow would be something different with that specific type of uniqueness when introduced to Builds where people avoid following the crowd for using, as an example, a Longbow with the Ranger, or, like most Engineers now, a Rifle/one or two Kits.

I can see some obvious Cons as to introducing a Crossbow to Classes in general, like it interfering with Tool Kits for Engineers as a whole, and maybe being seen as a “useless” weapon for the most obvious Classes who’d use this Weapon (like a Ranger), but wouldn’t it create a more diverse system of Weapon relationship with overall Player Stats/Traits etc to create more variated Builds? I wouldn’t say it has immediate potential if introduced, but it’s that concept of just something different which is there and could be a part in the development of making specific Builds where people think more deeply about Weapons-this could even meet some demands for gameplay with builds on classes being repetitive, or could even re-assure people looking to get a specific Legendary for a Build they actually like through diversity, which is what I’m still looking for after about a year of playing Guild Wars 2 ;D

Feel free to share your opinions on the idea as a whole!

A replacement for Turrets?

in Engineer

Posted by: Archaeopteryx.7409

Archaeopteryx.7409

Just been reading a few threads on how buggy turrets are and how weak they are compared to other ‘minion’ skills similar to summoning things with individual life bars; since the main complaints consist of a huge mobility restriction compared to the other Classes’ Summoned Skills, wouldn’t a mobile-Turret like skill be sufficient to replace them, especially as I read about a heavily proofed opinion on A-Net not being ‘able to fix them’ because it had been too long since any buffs towards Turrets(that’s to sum it up)?

… What about a Turret-Equipped Golem? Or a Turret with moving Robotic legs? This would equal us to other Classes’ Summoned Skills, especially as the complaints are meeting my troubles when wanting to switch back to (what was) my favourite Engineer Build… I wouldn’t mind if it was a Traited benefit, it’s just others and I are hoping it’d be available for use whether it’s provided with the skill, with a Gem Store-Purchased Upgrade or whether it’s a Trait; if it’s provided, I will buy/use it, and I’m pretty sure most other complainers would too.

I’m not trying to question Turrets in general, but I’m questioning whether a well-fitted recommendation should be put in place for Turrets to be replaced with choosable benefits since it’s (apparently) been too long since another Buff for Turrets. This is a well-suited recommendation towards all the complaints including my own experience to try and, not buff the Turrets too much, but give a choosable benefit to upgrade them in order to equal other Classes’ summoning Skills

Feel free to share your thoughts and knowledge on this subject!

A heal/condition build saved my Necro from being discontinued in my gameplay: it allows me to stand my ground in the front line, flinging & stacking conditions whilst siphoning and healing ridiculously, making it both good for WvW as I can take a Camp single handedly and keep people alive for once with a consistently large heal. Try it, you’d probably like it!

I’m curious to know why you think SoV is so good? Have you looked carefully at the numbers? Did you know there are cooldowns?

I use a High Healy Regeneration Build with several condition removals and it suits my type of gameplay personally; I absorb most of the bursts generally speaking, so with that Signet and a High-Healing Infinite Regeneration and Burst Siphoning/Stacking Bleeds, it adds up for me… Consume Conditions isn’t the most efficient for when I’m in WvW generally
