I decided to buy it – kitten it, why not I’m enjoying reliving Season 2 so it’s the ideal thing to do while I wait 2 weeks or so

3 Depends on you.

When you say ‘Depends on you’, what does that mean? You’re way too vague lmao

For instance, will people in WvW be using a hybrid between Scourge and Reaper? You need to remember I haven’t played since [pretty much] vanilla GW2, so I’m not aware of all the changes made to builds. -- Can people use both the Reaper and Scourge trait lines, or is it limited to only one?

I don’t think you understand. It is not possible to use two elite specs at the same time, so hybrids are literally impossible. This was an intentional design choice by Anet.

Ah, ok. All these changes to GW2 over 2 years are really overwhelming for returning players

Thank you so much for these quick responses, glad to see the Forums are still alive and active —

One other concern I’ll edit into the title was whether vanilla builds are still viable. I’m referring to whether the expansion specializations put vanilla builds to shame in certain aspects (e.g. “Reaper puts vanilla condi mancer to shame in WvW” – would this be true?)

ANet have stated that HoT and PoF are independent, there are no HoT mastery requirements (or even HoT mastery bonus content, to my knowledge) in any PoF content.

You will be down in mastery point level (ie, the number shown above your head) but in practical mastery point usage, PoF masteries are totally different to HoT masteries (you can not, for instance, farm HoT mastery points and then spend them on PoF content).

In terms of elite specs, no you will not be at a disadvantage. You can only equip one elite spec at a time, so you can not access greatsword as a weapon or the reaper spec line if you are a scourge and vice-versa, so the only disadvantage you would have in pvp is not having access to reaper as a build yourself

Awesome, thank you for clarifying this

I’m assuming Mastery Points are a way of ‘buying into’ content offered in the expansions?

Sup,

I left for 2 years and came back this week; I was impressed with the direction the game has gone in and, judging by what people said, I can expect Path of Fire to hold some promising new features – hence why I decided to buy it.

This was COMPLETELY different with Heart Of Thorns: in fact, I pretty much quit because that came out.

My main concerns are:

> Will I be held back purely on the basis of not owning HoT?
> Will I be able to ‘catch up’ with mastery points given I do not own (and do not want to own) HoT?
> Will I be outclassed by people who own specializations from both HoT and PoF? As an example, will I be fighting Reaper Necromancers who have access to Scourge abilities?
> Can the PoF expansion features be used in all aspects of the game, or are some features taken out in some areas? e.g. are mounts disabled in WvW?
> As to whether the expansion specializations put vanilla builds to shame in certain aspects, (e.g. “Reaper puts vanilla condi mancer to shame in WvW” – as an example), would I be limited for owning one expansion and not the other?

Feedback appreciated muchly

If they don’t provide much support in terms of outgoing effects, then cant they be used as a front line trash mob tanky class? I’m thinking of a vampiric build, though :/

What I can only think of as group support, is well-timed debuffs and boon removal. Occasionally the odd AoE spike, but it’s harder to maintain.

Dagger builds got a bit of a buff, and we can now interact in death shroud. Those are the big changes with necromancer.

The real changes are what happened around the necromancer – warriors and thieves took some nerfs and no longer are as big of a counter to us. Boon heavy classes seem to be the dominant classes in the meta, and we have ways to hurt them. Overall I think the balance team did a great job with this patch, as much as I raged about our lack of buffs at the time. In context, it was a good patch.

I must admit, I noticed dominance in my Might Stacking FT Engi in Wvw.
Thank you very much for that!

Charr vs Human vs Asura vs Norn

If the Sylvari are capable of controlling large quantities of natural life, like plants and magical stuff in the dirt, then the soundless would rendezvous and conquer Asuran territory and move to Human land, but by that time, would come face to face with industrialized Charr weaponry.

EDIT: The Soundless, not the followers of the Pale Tree: The Pale Tree is influenced by peace and projects what she wants her ‘children’ to see via dreams-something the Soundless aren’t a part of; I think I read about the Soundless being able to communicate to each other away from the Tree, meaning their anonymity could create a surprise attack against Humans and Asurans, probably not Norn, and almost definitely not when face-to-face with Charr

Underwater Combat-Here to stay?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Archaeopteryx.7409

If the game lives long enough to actually show the Deep Sea Dragon that is yet to be named properly, i expect some kind of big overhaul or at least some rebalancing of the underwater combat.

Until then, it is mostly forgotten. Skills when balanced or changed are usually staying the same or are bugged underwater until enough bug reports are sent, which is months after the bug is introduced.

Would they remove underwater combat altogether, they would have to remove too much of whats in the game already. They wont do that. Removing a single dungeon path to make way for another is one thing, but even as irrelevant as UW places are in the game, its too much to just remove. That would be admitting that its flawed and that they cant be bothered to fix it, and not just Anet, but not a single game developer company would do that.

Yeah, I hope recognition is introduced to the Underwater Dragon…

Do you think they may re-release it? How? Will this be beneficial or limiting?

Ideas For a new Elite skill

in Engineer

Posted by: Archaeopteryx.7409

Archaeopteryx.7409

Aside from looking at it stereotypically alongside Turrets, if it was a minion, it’d be unique as a skill for Engineer, but may not fit in with the concept of current Traits, Skills and such… It would introduce a new concept to Engineer from the perspective of mobile infantry-something that would not fit the concept of being an Engineer in this game.

This would arguably make the Engineer overpowered as they are designed to be independent even with (what is now deemed as weak and largely pointless and immobile) Turrets.

I think if it was a sentry bot (a four-legged Turret which moves to an enemy so that it is 600 away and relocates when it goes out of its 1,200 range) then I’d spend Skill Points and attention on it. If it were a Minion, I think it’d be a waste of Skill Points.

What would Scarlet want with Glint’s child? Why would it know anything about Destiny’s Edge when by your theory it’s been locked underground for hundreds of years? Why would Scarlet want a branded army, for that rate? She doesn’t care about armies, she has plenty and still only sees them as something to keep us heroes busy while she digs in the harbor.

With Glint’s Child, she could extract the Immunity to the Elder Dragons powarz?

Idk, that’s what came across to me when I stumbled over it in the Lore today and saw this Thread. The Branded Army could be linked with Kralkatorrik?

As for knowledge, the Child wouldn’t know it, but could be deceived to reward it: since Glint communicated and contacted with the Dwarves, and since the Dwarves didn’t die over time, this could mean that they’d have told Glint’s Child about her Mother’s triumphs and explained Glint’s shared thoughts. Just think about it for a second-I posted with thought

So what's Scarlet breaching, exactly?

in Lore

Archaeopteryx.7409

Scarlet could be digging deep to find Glint’s child.

Seeing as Glint retreated to the Dwarves, then died later on, she could have looked after her child there and created an underground passage of some kind as the Dwarves did live underground.

… Apparently her child’s status is unknown, and seeing as there were mysteries in LA, and Glint (and her child(ren?) are immune to the Elder Dragon’s control, Glint’s child could be underground in Lion’s Arch, something Scarlet would want possibly to gain secrets about the old Destiny’s Edge guild in order to counter act possible actions that could be repeated by the Destiny’s Edge Guildies and exploit their weaknesses to defeat them, one-by-one seeing as they’ve split up.

Either this or they’re searching for the Forgotten in order to access the spell used to free Glint from the Elder Dragon to use it on other creatures, possibly even form a branded army.

Well, that’s my logic after reading clumps of the Lore

Can Humans/other Races operate Golems?

Posted by: Archaeopteryx.7409

Archaeopteryx.7409

I’ve got deep into Golemancy, and how it’s known and used by Asurans; I want to know the comparison of Asuran use to the other cultures/races, if it’s being used by those cultures/races and the differences of the use, possibly even similar machinery to Golems.

The G.O.L.E.M stands for ‘Genius-Operated Living Enchanted Manifestation’, meaning that highly intellectual minds can operate these using equipment linked to them through enchantments. Seeing as Scarlet is originally a Sylvari Engineer and controls Golems/similar machines to Golems, is it doable for Humans, Norn and Charr to use Golems in the same way or on similar lines?

I can see how Engineers are deemed to be the inventors of machinery and commonly seen in the Charr territory. Since Golems are used for helpful heavy-lifting and even defensive combat, this makes me think that the Charr engineers were just as smart as Asurans who, supposedly, created the Golem, which I have gathered through their continuous preparation of war and machinery used for war; could this mean that the Charr had a chance to/scrapped the idea/developed Golems?

Also, Golemancy seems to be the Asura-adopted way to learn about the mechanisms of how Golems work and operate them through personal preference, leading to tweaking them (an example is Zojja’s Sparky Golem). Would this mean that Engineers will develop machinery, Golems or not, around their cultural backgrounds? Is this why Charr made war machines instead of Golems? Please discuss!

Archaeopteryx.7409

It’s good, I even tested something very very similar before I saw this thread, but I’ve tweaked my own towards a Rifle//Rocket Turret//Elixir B//Elixir H build for better, consistent condition removal, the reduction of Precision to aid survivability (Vit/Tough) which is covered by the Fury promoted by Elixirs with even more tweaking allowed for personal preference!

Seeing as you had a Wrench in there, you could substitute a Turret for that Wrench (using the changes I mentioned) with the Elixir that grants Haste. I used it with the Flame Turret for the AoE blind during WvW roaming: let’s just say it covered for 2k Toughness and for a quick kill (I Traited for the Cripple on Wrench Auto ;D)

Please don’t take this the wrong way, your Build is good! If you want to focus on Turrets, use Apothecary Armour with (at least) an Elixir Gun and a Flame Turret. Build for around 900 Healing and Condition Damage extras/Duration (<—- like I did) and it will be very sustainable in PvE and quite good for 2v2-3s in PvP/WvW, but will lack in 1v1/2s as the damage output will be restricted and unbalanced compared to the survivability, hence why the Damage or Duration from conditions is down to personal preference

Things have changed a lot over the last few months with ascended crafting. I had brought all of my crafts up to 400 almost a year ago, when things were much cheaper. I used the guides on gw2crafts.com and that sort of thing.

I think now, the armor crafts are super expensive to level because of ascended armor. Cooking has always been fairly cheap, and artificer becomes cheap because of all of the potions and non-weapons you can make. The rest are all still fairly expensive though. I recommend using a guide that shows you the cheapest way, or easiest if you prefer easy to cheap.

Hope this helps, even just a smidge

Well, I looked at Legendaries before and decided I’d go for Frostfang/Kamohoali’i Kotaki; then I looked at Crafting and thought: “this is insane”, mainly due to the amount of requirements it needs in total for a player, totally oblivious to crafting like my self, to cough up… I’m not sure about you guys, but it looks like a lot-something YouTubers don’t mention about when talking over Legendaries: how easy it is to Craft up to Level 400.

I mean, as much as I’d like a Legendary, I find it doable (especially since I currently have the Underwater legendary Precurser on my Necro) without considering Crafting. It might just be me though with having no long term experience with it what-so-ever.

I’d like some opinions on how easy it is to Craft up to level 400 on different Crafting Professions and if it is one of the hardest aspects to complete (in terms of crafting Legendaries) when at Level 0, bearing in mind there are two Professions needed in the Legendary Crafting process!

Also, if you can, list the most difficult/expensive Crafting Professions to level from 0-400 and the most easiest/quickest/cheapest, please! It would be extremely helpful!

Thanks!
I’ll appreciate any replies that are helpful!!!

Ok, as for Necromancer, I think it’s the fact that it feels like a chore to play him, mainly because I feel it’s one of these classes where you feel like the bad guy hahah, especially with the whole ‘death’ idea-It’s kinda hard to explain. That’s putting it simply; bit like Mesmer’s off-putting Butterflies and such: it just doesn’t feel like what I’m looking for (please, Necros, take no offense here, this is personal opinion).

Elementalist… Yeah, I do like the initial view of the class; I think what completely put me off was the key combinations of always swapping Attunements that made me feel it was too much to handle at once, but that can be said for Engineer, so I’m gonna pass that off as getting used to through experience if I’m honest (as you said, it’s one of the classes you’d need to master ;D)

Rifles Turret Barrels are good for when you place your Rifle&Rocket Turrets in hard-to-reach places like on ledges. Which Profession to go to next?

Archaeopteryx.7409

Thank you for the feedback! Firstly, Warrior=NOPE. I’d prefer to be a Necro over Warrior, sorry. I feel it’s just a class which requires no skill what-so-ever. As opposed to the Builds I play, I need to think logically against almost every enemy.

I am really considering playing a Thief.

Mesmer… I’ve tried it, like it, but it’s too repetitive for my tastes-just doesn’t suit my game style if I’m honest: I move more than I need to maintain an illusion (metaphorically).

Ranger… Yeah, I’d give in to a Ranger, only if they weren’t such easy kills, heheh-i tend to find any Ranger for my lvl 80 Mesmer, Engi & Necro is a free loot bag, no matter my Build, plus I’ve experienced a Ranger up to lvl 68 as my very first class; it’s fun, but I’m not a keen fan of using it repeatedly.

And yeah, I’m talking mainly about PvE and WvW.

I have found Thief to suit my purposes and roles in which I help others and use techniques to down specific enemies to gain support from any allies, use them to my advantage and down any others around-that’s how I play-not sure whether that’s a “support” class or not, but it’s independent and dependant depending on the situation entirely.

Thank you, nonetheless, for all of your feedbacks! Any further feedbacks will also be appreciated ;o

I’ve heard about Static Discharge Problems for specific Utility Skills, which don’t bother me, as well as the infamous Turret Bug, and several others, including Traited ‘bugs’ I’ve found out.

I’m just wondering… Some ‘bugs’ are worse than others, and those worse ones tend to be on the more overpowered, simple and widely recognised Builds; since the bugs for those types of builds are ‘big’ and, I quote: “game changing”, if they were to be fixed, slowly, one-by-one, won’t ANet start nerfing the builds that use the previously ‘bugged’ skills/traits/runes etc.? Seeing as I’ve encountered almost every bug and feel pain from Threads pointing out specific ‘bugs’ in more depth, I do feel the urge to complain, but I also find it easy-ish to overcome those with plenty of fast-paced WvW experience and tactics of what to do against who and what not to do against whoever.

So, my Question is:
Is it worth moaning about a ‘bug’ and wanting it fixed just to have realisation afterwards of a possible nerf rather than to live with the miniature drawbacks it currently has and mould a Build around them?

From the current updates apparently “worsening” current ‘bugs’, I can see why the urge for fixes is encouraged from gameplay… I’ve felt it through the gradual Turret bugs and Nerfs; this is a different matter though because, seeing how ANet tend to do things, when it reaches the level of obviously obviousness of being obviously obvious and bad when using ‘bugged’ Skills and such during a game, they tend to buff the skills to try and cover up the ‘bugs’, like with a few Traits from previous updates. This is over a period of time though, that’s why it’s a different matter, also because it may not apply to the situation-don’t bring this up though! I want to know the answer to the Question above ;D

I was also told in-game a few months ago that a few fixes resulted in Nerfs on the Ranger and Thief (or Elementalist, can’t remember). Seeing the current states of ‘bugs’ on the Engineer, if they were fixed, do you think similar Nerfing updates will occur?

You can double click to select specifics. I understand your problem, and when being rushed in WvW, I get this happening to me-a lot, but I got into an efficient habit of clicking specifically for actions to take place. Give it a go-you’ll get used to it!

I had a soft spot for Rangers when I started playing, deleted my original Ranger, started again, and realised that Engineer is the current best class in terms of similarity with the Ranger… Yeah, he doesn’t have a Bow which I’m unhappy about, but he has a lot of default survivability and Build Options.

Since Ranged is all the Engi really has in terms of base weapons, you can easily switch out for a Kit and use a wide variety of hard-hitting, group-supportive attacks, which I feel is a good start point to those who’d want to be Rangers. I main Engi and keep hesitating whether to take on Ranger or not, mainly because of the Bow aspect and initial Ranged, single target-focused damage which seems to be good near the back of a Zerg in WvW running a pure damage Build to burst down those Warriors; same can easily be done with an Engi, if anything, a little more effectively with a Boon-Burst-Static Discharge Build which I’m running ;D
