Circle of Life is a trait that states that we create a healing spring on death, since my character has never died, only has been downed and defeated, in what situation can i rely on this extra healing spring to pop?
Healing Spring doesn’t work underwater, so does this mean this trait is completely useless below the surface?
Any other tooltip…er… ambiguities that you’d like to clear out for us?
barkskin does it reduce damage from conditions at all? If so, does it reduce those applied prior to the effect being triggered my the health treshold or only those applied while barkskin is active, or even both?
Does it have any internal cooldown? For instance: i drop below 25%, it triggers, i heal above that percentage, i drop again within seconds does it activate again regardless of any cooldown?
Pet internal abilities Can you offer some insight on the mechanics of self usage skills?
For instance i know a drake will activate tail swipe on a pet swap, can we guarentee another tail swipe and its blast finish in 30sec? Any tell sign we can watch to try and coordinate a combo field right before a new tail swipe cast?
This is just an example others include swiftness from a bird, leap from a canine, poison field from a spider, and so on?
Storm Spirit buff seems a weird mobility buff for a spirit standing still. Do you use it just for the activate ability damage only? Do you take it for when you’re running unbound spirit trait?
The guy takes his time to address directly to the community, most of you decide to take a crack at comedy, i hope this doesn’t turn off Anet from doing further interactions with us. I know freedom of speech and all but some people should just keep the noise they make to themselves… i hope you watch it and understand better the proffession you think you know

Ontopic:
Search and Rescue sometimes fails to actually rez a downed player in dungeons. What can i do (timing, positioning pet type) to prevent a miss use of such a long cooldown. Can you name three situations where this utility is invaluable?
Er… i’m clearly out of the loop here. Any website/map area in-game where i could bring myself up-to-speed?
Obviously now, i wonder if it can be done without the embers…?
This very clever use of game mechanics and inspirational, that bonfire+callofthewild, shared anguish to skip a knockback, reflection on axe 5 for the “why you hitting yoursfelf?” And RAO puts the stability icing on the cake… what’s with all the embers though?
Outstanding clever use of game mechanics, this is…. inspirational.
What method of measurement did you used to decide power builds don’t work and that we have no burst?
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-F;5Fkx-c2kDV-0;9F9E;1EO;0T0;004;525A;9;5FvN4X0Vm
Just a suggestion, you have a few tools to keep target in place if he manages to run away from your sword’s OP chain. The axe 5 is meant to be used while the enemy has either cripple or chilled and always with the quickness up, you can even combine pet swap’s quikness with zephyr right away. You can have an 9sec quikness up, although if the enemy understands the burst beast you are, you’re going to be kited so It depends. The idea is for you To cast the signet right before sic’em, since the other way around the signet’s effect gets overwritten by the shout. Of course these incursions supported by a pre-cast Rampage as one buffs turns you in a wreacking ball of pain. Obviously this relies plenty in execution and timing and that my friend, is a never ending road to perfection.
You can also tweak some options in terms of weapons/traits/gear, i know for one GS synergizes well with this.
This is also meant for pvp but you weren’t specific to which scenario was disappointing you, other options take place.
Have fun with your ranger.
Geez still i’ll bump from 15 to 25 AR how that missed that infusion big detail. Thanks for adding that up, but both are different and kind of suiting for most builds i run so just adding the AR it’s good enough of a deal.
Ty very much for the help.
I… just… ouch… not really min/maxing anything here mate. I do get a sense of getting more out of it and even if mathmatically and spreadsheetly i’ts not The most efficient wagy, there’s still some excitment to be had in the gamble.
Although something you have to crunch in mr. Mathmagician is that i’m salvaging rares with black lion for a while now and i still have a few till i run out, but no reason to invest in gems for this.
Still 0.9 ecto per rare is pretty ok. What’s the odds on the 4 greens for a rare in the mystic forge?
Er can’t believe no one mention this: throw 4 of them at the Mystic Forge and hope for a Rare then salvage the rare. This is the only RNG crap i allow myself, when you get 3 ectos out of this dual lottery it does compensate the times it doesn’ go so well, plus in my opinion it does beat the roughly 6silver guarenteed if you don’t gamble.
Sometimes if i have odd number of greens i’ll go TP buy 1 or 2 just to complete another slot machi… er mystic forge transmutation.
Sorry for being naggy but apart from slot machine it to get a rare out of 4 greens i don’t come even near the mystic forge:
Upgrade a regular ascended ring in the Mystic Forge using 1 Shard of Crystallized Mists Essence, 3 Globs of Coagulated Mists Essence, and 5 Vials of Condensed Mists Essence.
So can i shove my ring with those 3 things and i’ll get instant +10 AR (15 Total per ring) and not lose my item for some useless thing, like that othes time (i still dream anet to unleash zomorous to do some nasty djin business, so i can smack him where it hurts, cheap kitten…)
Today i’ll be doing another shift at work. I’ll be home at 9ish PM Greenwich meantime. Just add and we’ll sort it whenever.
Cya in Tyria.
Oh boy, i focused on the dread and forgot my real concern.
The thing is that since my character already has both rings, there seems to be a road block, as in progressing through the 20+ fractals won’t be giving me anything to improve that particular character AR for futher fractals, unless i start relligiously doing the dailies/monthlies for the laurels for the earrings.
Sorry to necro this but, my main character has already 2 rings, lately i’ve had a drop of a ring (bank) and now managed to sum up 10 Pristine Relics which i believe can only be exchanged for Rings.
So i have 2 Rings (sort of, still haven’t exchanged the 10 relics) so i guess the only possible thing to do is to soulbound them to an Alt, but then even by having the both rings head-start and thus 10AR, even though my alt can do lvl10+ fractals, he will start personal reward from the start?
Off-topic: do ppl delete posts? I swear i was adressing somebody’s and now mine seems ovut of context… am i imagining it?
“Pets need to be removed/perma-stowed/bound to BM”
“We need more control over the pet”
Go figure.
In fact let’s make this an open invitation. Not just SPVP but Pve and WvW, i’ll even mark my pet so you can see how many times it dies and how i work with him.
Edit: also, bring fraps and we’ll be widening the audience, my vintage pc barely runs gw2 so thanks in advance.
(edited by Ariete.6509)
I’ll be home at 6:30ish Greenwich meantime, you have the Gamertag, let’s see if my twitchy fingers match the reasoning of my ideas, but just an FYI, i won’t be comparing genitalia size or spit distance, that’s where i draw the line.
He he he there’s a typo on the thread title “State of” is incorrect it should be written: “My opinion on”.
I’m glad the game development is in the right hands, just by viewing a dozen threads…
Steve Jobs, may he RIP, said it best “The customer doesn’ know what it wants, till we present it to them”
Keep up the good work Anet, can’t wait to see what more you have in store for us
A pet that grants on demand aegis. I vouch for the gríffon idea mentioned with a mix of feline and bird skills.
Big numbers impress small minds
Wut?! Missleading title… thought the “please work on it” was directed to the player mentality, instead it’s the same getting old banging on the wall.
“I can’t do it and can’t make this work therefor THEY must redo the whole thing to accomodate my needs and whims”
Seriously it’s getting very old An, luckly the course of decisions are in good hands i mean i’ve seen people giving the idea of removing the pet, the OP wants even more control… i sure hope they don’t pay too much attention to forums.
I just hope these “suggestions” And other times outright “demands” never get passed the “letters to Santa” category.
Non-breaking and really QoL would be weapon/armor slots and utility/trait/pet presets.
Personal perception. That really is the key isn’ it? You have to stop assuming that your opinion constitute fact. Coming up with “the numbers” just to streghthen your convictions is simply uncalled for…
So in my personal opinion, the pet shouldn’t be able to withstand… man… A ZERG! Thing about it a stream of 10+ enemy players hammering AOE’s, that would make pet management irrelevant. I’ve seen ideas in the form of high percentage pet resistance to AoE’s and such, which i believe are taken from other MMO’s.
In my case pet classes never were my thing but in gw2 i’m hooked in the current punishing/reward state of pets. Considering how active Gw2’s combat i believe it would be deterimental to the gameplay, having the pet be a “send-in-and-forget” deal.
Now please take heed on mine and others testimonials: we make the pet work with little to no frustration, sure there a few but it never get to the point of being broken or unabling me to enjoy my favourite class… Far from it…
So does storm remain a good option even without the spirits unbound trait? I always had trouble taking storm in any scenario tbh, maybe dimily looking to it’s active effect, and not so much for the prosoproc swiftness?
Love how the pet is able to complement any build, spot on!
Due the versatility on its F2 active ability i can complement my build by bringing say might, or extra survivability via protection, why not a blind?
Or take use of the on swap insta ability, like in drakes you know you’re getting the blast finisher and the knockdown from a canine.
Plus the combat is so active. In another mmo i played that pet class was called a hunter. Well basically i got tired of it by lvl18 since you only had to not forget to switch off an ability that took threat from the tank (the one supposed to hold the enemy mobs) and to dismiss the pet, a.k.a. stow, before making a jump, so i wouldn’t accidentally pull the entire dungeon. Apart from that i just had to care for my religious rotation and could ignore the pet completely.
Here? oh sweet, i really have to be on my tippy toes to care for my pet. Miss timing or just bad position can really punish me for having a down pet and pay the 50 sec fine. Also in order for my pet to hit i really have to snare my opponent or just go easier mode and go Ranged pet or total easy mode with dual hard snare pet, and if i really want to make others punch their monitor: Malicious Training… i know… 3 sec immobilize from spiders is just… unfair.
Also in that MMO classes have very strict roles so obviously i ended up commiting to the most versatile classes there. Now on GuildWars2 since every professions can do pretty much anything, i’m just a spoiled child, but that extra versatility provided by the pet… Awsome!
Idd, just scratched some mats and bought an entire Zho’s set… i mean… since i went all in on the build… about 9g, plus 2.5 for the runes. I don’t mind aesthetics so much.
On further note (sorry for double post, just thought my vouch for the build to get into the sticky, deserved it’s own post), i’d like to offer a small switch to this concept.
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-F;4wEFu-_2wDk-0;9F33;39TT;41;003B29AT;07;2UytbUytb;0kPkI-ZP;1VMVRWWXa2g3m4I
most importantly is the choice for apothecary instead of Cleric, since i think it synergizes with the main hand weapons better even more through the usage of condition sigils (Doom and Geomancy, to complement each of the weapons) and even the off-hands can be switched to better synergie condition ones.
As you can see traits are all there, this suggestion can easily be converted to Enaretos’ design, which i loved. In my opinion though, i wouldn’t go for fern hound (regen is repetitive), instead going for the raven (blind also very in tune with the build theme) grants vigor on every pet swap due to the trait including Birds and Moas (double moas isn’t out of the question either) and the fact i don’t fancy signets too much out of a Beastmaster Active trait from Marksmanship and i love Spirits. It just that i have this decease of thinking about builds that even though focused in one objective still offer some manuver to spice things around.
Just my two cents, anyway my thanks to Enaretos for the inspiration and for making me utterly bankrupt (don’t have much playtime to farm stuff unfortunately).
After some testing, this should really be added to the ranger sticky. Great job.
Just wondering if somebody found the conditions to test this.
Usually Sun Spirit is my go-to choice unless i see a Guardian or if after a while i see an Elementalist focusing on fire, which in one of these
cases i switch to Frost, ocasionally going for Stone for the rough bits (storm is… very niche pick if ever.)
Thoughts? How best to buff your allies?
Always loved the concept of the skill but got frustrated by sheer math coeficients making it useless. How is it now? Do one needs to trait/equip healing power for it to be useful? Mind you the cone requirement never was something to throw me off. Have you been usíng it since the recent buff.
I don’t think i’ll commit to the cleric weapons just yet. Unless i missed a cleric weapon karma vendor (only abundant resource i wish to spend on this build). Still something about runes troubles me: Do the 4th 6th set bonus really compensate? I don’t know… 5% seems unreliable for condition cleanse and how big is that AOE heal.
I already swapped one of the sigs for renewal but still…
Then some…
o much stuff to address… and i’ve been preaching to non-believers for a looong time. But i think i’ll get more bang for the buck writting something like this:
Your subjective view of this profession, along with your opinion, as much as you desperatly seem to want, does not constitute fact.
And as a side note, i sure hope the dev team don’t give in to particular whims of players around, because you know what, some people understand this class the way it is. That’s the problem isn’ it? You probably brought preconceptions of the “Ranger class” and/or “The Pet Class” from other games and that is inhibiting you from savouring this profession the way it is.
I just feel for players like Setun or Valentin, this thread is not one you guys should be posting, those gathered around here follow the premise of Misery Loves Company, they come here to simply beach and moan out of their own frustrations. I need to read from you guys in constructive threads, not in one already infected with the whinnies.
As an afterthought: OK! I admit, after gathering all the data, testimonials and court hearings we have sufficient information that the Ranger class utterly… sucks. What are YOU going to do about it? Adapt, overcome and triunf or keep writting how much Anet hates their own creation and how there’s an ultimate goal of them bringing misery to players and make them suffer, raise billboards and huge rants to force them to stop this tyrany!?
You’ve seen people defending the Ranger, you’ve seen videos, guides and inputs from players who do enjoy the class and get a sense of satisfaction playing it. Can you not break the chains of your own mind?
Copy/pasted from another thread too…
I seriously don’t understand this… before the hp buff my pet got permadeath in less then a handfull of situations and i am accounting the Jademaw where i have no pet with oposable thumbs to pick up a crystal unfortuanetly. Nowdays it’s a none issue.
My pc is crappy to run fraps, but seriously i’ll point a freakin camera to my screen, name five situations where your pets are dying and i’ll prove how he can be kept alive.
It has to be along the lines of some rangers wanting the pet to survive with no interaction… it has to be! As in, here’s me making my dps rotation and pet is there doing what he’s suppose to do. How many of the Ranger complaining, do reposition in the battle in order to avoid the pet getting stranded?
Seriously fellas, break that mind chains! I’m a witness, i do wvw, fotm (admitetly only to lvl 17, i have a small trouble of repeating too much of something), i have dungeon master achievement, champion slayer in spvp, i know i’m not the most hardcore but… somehow it seems you’re not talking about the class i’ve been playing…
I doubt i’m anywhere in the over-talented player and yet, i simply don’t see any frustration with the pet, apart from a few situations – off the top of my head i believe a dual boss fight in HotW where there’s constant pulsating aoe damage and the already stated jademaw-pick-the-crystal one.
Now, when i mess up? Sure my pet bites the dust and that’s fine, it gives a small sense of achievement to get your companion through alive and in the other hand gives some frustration to see him down.
I remember at first being frustrated for having the pet going down too much, but what i didn’t do was to focus my attention in coming to forums asking the referee’s to change the rules of the game. It’s way more feasible to change myself.
Or are you spoiled by other MMO’s? In WoW i didn’t play anything seriously other than a Hybrid, my hunter never reached above 40ish and i get it… that pet requires zero babysitting apart from turning grawl off (aggro caused trouble to the tank) and dismissing it to jump down (some situations a pet’s pathing would aggro entire instances), and even that players messed up a lot in that game.
If this is the case Reformat yourselves! Or call me a lier crawl and lock in to your own mindset and continue writting your… er… reinvidication?
There’s guides stickied in the ranger forum, but at this point this is a L2play issue, this is more a change of attitude issue tbh.
k, still have time for this…

Go ahead make it rock!

Nah the cooldown triggers as soon as the cast ends. Your math would be true if started at the end of the heal over time final tick
Too early to tell healing spring is still a 10sec water field with continuos condition removal…
Oh no. Even without crispy’s math i never sensed troll unguent to be weak. Oh and playing warrior i end up leaning towards mending. I was just saying whenever i run it i usually make sure to supplement it with heavy dosage of condition removal. But that’s just two cents, my opinion isn’t fact.
You could start only slotting Troll Unguent when you do have other sources of condition removal (runes, traits, pets). Also try to pour some healing power in you build (equipment, traits, food) Till you find the setup that makes you satisfied with troll’s efectiveness.
After those 16 months i’d say the hardest thing is to convince you that those aren’t issues, but Subjective things you struggle with.
The entire combat system is very dynamic and if pet management wasn’t as rewarding/punishing as it is now. I wouldn’t be playing it by now.
I’m no special cookie and hardly a hardcore player, but what if i told you my pet rarely died in pve apart from some miss timings from my part and stuff like jademaw-pick-the-crystal bit.
In spvp players should be rewarded for kiting you pet as much as you be satified for snaring an enemy to death.
And on WvW… oh c’mon why would a pet have to survive an entire zerg stream of aoe, just watch out you have a virtual added responsability take care of your loyal companion.
Dear Santa,
I’ve been good this year and putting a lot of hours on my ranger:
1- Signet’s active effect should affect the ranger by default, like the passives. Current Beastmarter could stay and now increase the signet’s active in intensity, duration and radius respectively.
2 – storm spirit’s swift bonus makes little sense if they are stationary without a major trait. Tbh any other buff would be better, just not the one involving movement. But since we have two offensive already, maybe a vigor or stability?
3 – most important though build presets two at least! Just a Simple swtich to alternate between 2 sets of weapon/armor/trait/utilities/pet.
I don’t even mean Dual trait point allocation, just 2 sets of the adjoustments one can do while out of combat!!!
That would beat any proffessíon adjoustment.
I seriously don’t understand this… before the hp buff my pet got permadeath in less then a handfull of situations and i am accounting the Jademaw where i have no pet with oposable thumbs to pick up a crystal unfortuanetly. Nowdays it’s a none issue.

Doing fractals the lag was unbearable, about 2 sec for inputs to happen. I opened a ticket concerning, how can i diagnose this problem? I do have pingplotter from another situation, but how can dismiss problems on my end?
Thumbs up for that Lost Odyssey inspiration. Even a PowerPoint presentation really…
And if nothing else, i’d welcome GW 1 walls of text back, they look even better than these webstories, that mind you… i’m hearing about them just now… true story!
So weird, i went from loving build making and story in gw while disliking the combat to kind of enjoying build making and caring little about story while loving combat. Story presentation never rocked my boat, this “face-to-face” cinematics still makes me roll my eyes. In-game cinematics without much fluff works even better.
From a ranger’s perspective, that warrior better bring a ton of condition removal and stability to make me that frustrated.
With no experience whatsoever i hear double daggers on ele can give you an edge.
