I’m a solo player. I have 100% map completion acquired solo. You’re just not good
I don’t costraint myself to play with others but seriously how did you managed to unlock all places in the WvW areas? Some are just too deep into enemy lines.
For the longest time i’ve seen threads of how much anet hates pets and how tying roughly 20% of our damage to the pet is dumb design. Well yesterday was doing imbued shaman with dual ranged pets when it occured to me: while i’m reviving a down mate the pet keeps doing damage. That’s something most other Classes can’t do and has to enter the equation.
Before the 71% Hp buff my pets died on a handfull of situations and because of bad management/timing. Now? It has become a non issue.
In wvw i avoid zerging, and when i do zerg i just keep a tighter look to my awsome class mechanic.
In spvp nobody targets a pet and mind your step in aoe.
You got to see the glass half full fEllas.
Have fun with your awsome class
Sigils, traits, traps and sun spirit compensate lack of built in conditions. Those two weaponss can be used effectively on a condition build.
Edit: so the choice is there already. Also forgot pets, although i believe pets don’t scale wi h ranger’s stats.
(edited by Ariete.6509)
A: Sure, the place is in my equipment slots. In some ocasions where LB/Greatsword do provide the more suited tools for the task at hand. My current build compensates with bleed on crit trait, plus traps and sun spirit can be slotted and there’s also sigils to help generate condiition damage output.
Bottom line is i prefer steady stream of damage instead of a bigger number on the screen. You know the saying:“Only small minds are impress by big numbers”. And this is how berserk’s Myth spawn players asking questions in the form as this.
Go ahead mate, try it and see if you like it, most of our weapons’ skills benefit from rampager.
mine is Tessarackt, a world play with the hypercube, something beyond technology
Again, that’s your view. I believe it’s even a general concensous that the ranger is very much on par in spvp and i do hear more grief on the PVPEish-WvW. PVE fight was one of my bullet points:
<And this part is to kitten some of you off: I take pride of keeping my pet alive nearly every pve fight; spirits are great EDIT: The Spirits unbound build is a superior PVP build, makes targetting you difficult to target with the added buffs and active effects of them!; sword auto-attack chain is terrific EDIT: you stick to players like wetnoodle, because i focused in improving…. wait for it… MYSELF!>
Still the idea is more than simply reduced to L2play, it’s not. It’s a change in attitude.
Still i’ll step deeper into your muddy terrain, yes! Our traps’ combofields, our warhorn buff, our pet buffs, our crowd control, our mobility, our condition removal tools, our 1200+ range, all that is pale in comparison to the neighboors greener grass, all that and here is the million achievement points question:
What are YOU going to do about it?
A) keep writting your demands in a form of santa’s wish list;
B) i don’t know… plenty, start by typing “wvw ranger” on youtube… youtube… seriously then maybe advance to people-committed trully helpfull well thought guides, and let the frickin’ grundge wash away, i bet you’ll be having more fun.
Or just reroll, now just stop messing with the way my favourite profession in GW2 works so it can adjust to your whims.
But i guess nothing there’s nothing one can do when trapped on one’s own state of mind.
Good luck and most of all have fun.
Please, not trolling or anything, read some of my posts, for as long as you are complaining, i’ve been trying to tell people one simple thing:
Play the class you have in front of you, as it is. That’s the challenge. Shortcomings, even though subjective (oh that’s too big, next guy says: hey not big enough) sure there are some.
Instead you keep banging your head against something you wish it was and at the same time you have no control over changing it.
As i see it you have two choices: type endlessly to grab dev’s or the holyghost attention in some dumb-going-no-where-miss-lead prayer to Revamp an entire concept of ideas;
or use those same two hands to discuss ways of how YOU can change your playstyle to overcome what’s been frustrating you.
Guess what change is more worthwhile.
Now, should i copy paste this text to every whinning thread out there?
And this part is to kitten some of you off: I take pride of keeping my pet alive nearly every pve fight; spirits are great!; sword auto-attack chain is terrific, because i focused in improving…. wait for it… MYSELF!
Over and out really. There’s a saying in my native language which literrally translated means:
“More blind are those that do not wish to see.”
Hi fellow ranger,
REally simple really. I was just made a build around Stalker/REd Moa and Fernhound/Blue Moa, because of their buffs, figured it would be neat to have a dual choice of offensive support pets and a dual choice of defensive suppport pets.
Although i don’t know if it’s a known bug but… like just my standing around and keep switching between the pets, 9/10, some boon will simply not apply, and of course, what made me make this test in the first place was because of how often it fails in combat, such that i started to only cast the boon after a pet switch to ensure he’s near me to apply the boon.
Known issue? Any tips to increase boon effectiveness?
@Phineas Poe don’t even think on switching that signature for a while. More people need to come across that as i did…
That FT/EG you posted is like crack, very well balanced, opening a mouthfull of choices and lately as i’ve been using it, it feels like… i’m carrying the team on my shoulders.
Thank you very much.
Sometimes even within the same dungeon, i feel the need to swap equipment/traits/weapons/utilities on the fly and it is a pain…
Can’t believe i’m the only one. I’m not going into having different trait allocation, what i mean is within the same trait points allocation, be able to switch these 4 aspects to suit my style.
I’m thinking kind of in the way weapon sets worked in the first game. Can’t be that hard and time consuming to implement. It can even stand as ranger pet names to save up on storaging resources and maybe lose the equipment bit as it mostly tieds to trait points anyway.
I log in, save my X number of sets for the four aspects of my character customization and it doesn’t even need to store this presets after i log off.
Please ANet make it happen, it would benefit us all.
Nobody choses to target the pet as it is in PVP/WvW, it would actually have zero impact to grant 2sec of invulnerability to the pet on the start of the ranger roll, and it would make wonders to the overall gameplay-
well geez. That’s certantly a good idea
Although we can’t forget the swap pet; return; attack functions.
We could also blend the attack and return functions into one single key: the pet is attacking, press button to return to me, press again to attack again, we would have to press it twice just to switch targets though…
The basic attack we wouldn’t have to assign it to any key obvsiously. But to make 2 attacks instead of 1, i’m all aboard with the idea.
I doubt it would require that much programming.
+1
Hi there,
Am i crazy to think that both Grandmaster Traits on Nature Magic, shouldn’t be mutually exclusive?
The ability to make spirits follow and giving shouts regen and swiftness, are both very usefull supportive tools, but we can chose one or the other. Don’t want to comment on unofficial leaked updates.
I’m not even sure, allowing spirits follow makes them that op, in some cases it’s even unadvised to bring spirits unbound since they die so quickly, having them in melee range is prohibited.
Hi, that Lightning Reflexes and Muddy Terrain does make me wonder.
On the other hand, i’ll keep things closer to the original design, although that change for -20 BM for the Empathic Bond + Vicious Training does offer great promise. Still i’m not giving up on my drakehound because of the leap knockdown on swap + CC he provides, but will keep the spider though, maybe i’ll run the dual spiders here and there.
Ty for the help, i’ll post some feedback if this thread remains hot.
Hi there,
Been playing since launch. Mostly PVE, still trying to figure out the fun of zerg surfing although it seems i have found something in Solo Queue.
Currently running somewhat of a Bunkerish build of sorts but kinda of looking for a change.
This build is not intended for the big flashy crits, instead it focuses on the ranger’s strongest points: the idea is to hold enemies in place and melt them in conditions.
Biggest downside i’ve found was the sort of lack on condition removal and not nearly as much mobility as my previous attempts (i’ve dabbled with pure voice – perma swift/regen; greatsword – swoop is amazing; power builds – why oh why can’t we have signet active effects on the ranger without the 30point trait…)
Let me know what you think and what can be tweaked to reduce shortcomings, please do mind my rune/sigil placement and pets, need some insight on those too.
Thanks in advance
@Megatron well i wasn’t focusing on keeping a buff on the dolyak, only buffing it in-between trips.
The name says it all, i agree, but like i said me and the random player got squished by a group of about 5/6 players, not a zerg.
Map’s big, many points to fight for, so why a zerg.
Nevermind, i’ll link this thread in my guild’s forum, see if i can find a small group of mates that feel the way i do, it’s just that i’m returning from a small hiatous.
Thank you all for your feedback.
hein? Maybe i got missunderstood…
Near release i did invested a bit more time in GW2, from listening to podcast such as Tales of Tyria and such, i was aware of the so-called zerg-meta and how that’s a problem and what changes may be implemented to avoid this (removing orange swords, radically buffing siege weapons, applying massive debuffs when groupped with a lot of people).
My intent was trully to try and reach out and see wheather the community had found ways to get the gameplay they like from the game they enjoy, maybe in that regard i am a troll. Sorry to waste your time then…
Hi Tyrians,
Did a lot PVE, now leaning towards SPVP and WvW, and something bothers me.
I helped some Quaggans picking up pearls, then those quaggans helped me storm a near empty keep (askalion hills), me and another random dude started to build a Flame Ram, then i asked in MAP help for more supply to finish building, coincidence or not, my side massive zerg comes barging in.
I follow the Zerg briefly from Askalion hills to Greenlake Tower, as soon as the tower fell i began addressing the Greenwater Lowlands supply fishing camp, managed to build an arrow cart and started upgrading to construct Oil for the front of the walls, eventually another random person joined my efforts (during the cart construction), as we were going on our first trip to the supply camp, while buffing the dolyak with swiftness, i managed to come across about 5+ enemies and we two got obliterated.
Why is this? What fun comes from roaming with 30+ other dudes? Why no one stays behind to build up some defenses?
Since guess what, 3 mins later the tower fell.
So what am i not getting here? I was hoping to build up some defenses for about 5mins (more or less 3 trips), getting about 3/4 siege weapons up and prepare for a glorious defense while outnumbered against a bigger force.
Can i only dream of playing such a game? Or is it the zerg way or the highway=not playing WvW?
So… nobody using combat mod?
Hi,
What tricks you use to set your distance at max range without going out of range?
One of my tricks is to light the red underline in the Point Blank Shot skill if that’s red at least it means i’m over 600, well but that only ensures me the second tier of range.
At start i was using backpedal to move my character, lately i removed backpedal from my keys and in place i simply placed dodge, in this particular scenario it’s kinda of difficult for the distance adjustment.
Am i the only one with a depth perception issue outside the water?
Thanks in advance for any tips and help.
Hey,
question lies in the active effect of signet of renewal with the Grandmaster trait: Signet of the Beastmaster.
Considering the active effect of the signet is to draw all conditions from allies (including yourself i suppose) to your pet, if you have the trait and use that signet does it mean you are going to draw conditions to both you and your pet?
If so, i guess this is actually a trait that breaks the actual effect of this signet.
Love seeing ppl breaking havoc on the “stablished order”
Ok then, the core of the build is really 3 things: shout recharge reduction, regeneration increase and shouts granting both swiftness and regen which in turns comes from spamming guard right?
That’s very clever idd. I guess i’ll try 0/0/0/30/10 as somewhat a core with the given traits and work around something to my liking for the other 30 pts.
Question: The Fortifying bonds trait that reads: “Any boon you get is shared with your pet”. Does this work in reverse? As in, do you get what your pet gets?
Edit: Oh that said, i really can’t see why you wouldn’t grab the Zephyr Speed, 3 sec every 15 sec is just too good to give it up, if you want to climb that BM tree that is…
(edited by Ariete.6509)
adapt and overcome mate, tinker with other builds and such… that’s part of the game. If that’s a part you don’t like, rerolling another profession is always an option.
guess is a l2play issue then. i’ll practice alone for a bit, till i get confortable timing skills…
actually my build does have it in skirmish, i usually go for bleeding on crit, but the idea to send pet ahead does sound a good one, switch pet’s near death, rinse repeat… maybe a couple of bears or devours…
cool thanks
PS: btw i even used ranger to do a few runs, nothing like “professional taxi to Droknar” but just to say, a couple skills in expertise plus storm chaser… yeah good times, somehow i’m not really couping with that on gw2.

I’m talking about skipping trash mobs in dungeon.
At first i was keen on the thought that the pure game was about clearing paths and playing the game for the game itself, yes sometimes the reward outwheighs the fun in gameplay, something i try not to do.
That was until i reached Arah Exp, specially ooze boss in path 1. After killing that boss, some oozes left deal such an over the top OP aoe damage that the design has to be to challenge players to skip.
TLDR: I have little to no trouble skipping stuff on my guardian (ocasional fails), but when it comes to ranger, it seems i lack the tools to do it
I tend to circle around Dodging of course, greatsword skill #4 for the prolonged block, Warhorn #5, signet of the hunt for the 25% speed increase and Rampage as One for the stability.
Unfortunately this isn’t enough, i tend to try and toy around with Muddy Terrain, Frost Trap, Spike Trap, Protect Me (currently not traited into Marmanship so no signet of stone) and Lightning Reflexes.
Although i’m still severly kitten when it comes to skipping. I either ferry with somebody in front of me, or just get downright lucky.
Thanks for any helpfull insight fellow rangers.

The worst limitation i’ve experienced with this mod is really the auto-targetting restriction, case in point is being in combat and wanting to cast a dash ability away from my target. For example, i play a ranger, if i want to swoop or dart away or just to move around really, he will always target someone. Just FYI my #1 skill is tied to my left click, so auto-targetting does make sense for everything else but this particular situation of dashing away with an ability.
The selecting thing: my wheel up targets the closest enemy, while wheel down targets next enemy, as for the previous enemy function i get by not using it at all.
I don’t know… timing seems way too on the nose…
Hi,
usually when i want to get some improvement in FPS in other games, i lower the resolution, reduce the ui size and i notice an increase.
Although in GW2 going from 1680×1050 to 1280×720, apart form making the game really ugly, doesn’t improve its smoothness in a major way.
i dont’ get many chances to play.. and when i do… i’m gonna bang my head against the wall now
well.. i did it again and it keeps timing out all the way up to 30… i don’t see where it would… well anyway it times out each time, i guess that suffices it

Dunno if this helps or not, but i’m too frustrated not to try anything…
The ÎSP is ZON and i’m currently on Desolation EU
so what?
we come here, we state we have bad lag and we can’t play, which is what i am experiencing then what?
can i provide additional information to help fix this or is this just to blow off steam?
edit: eventually it displays code 7:11:3:189:101
nvm, now it sticks to loading screen and eventually skips to connection lost
It’s taking huge times to load any map, once it enters i can only play for about 5 min, then it freezes and suddendly disconnects.
Unplayable really.
Well, i took paleeshi’s advice and spent most of my karma in Medium Whispering Shoulderpads/coat/gloves/leggings of infiltration. The set bonuses are pretty bad, but it was accessible, and i was thinking on running either Honor of the Waves or Twilight Arbor to get 2 pieces for head and boots since those from the karma vendor outside arah didn’t have those two slots with the specs i want.
But come to think of it this Vatlaaw does fit my criteria pretty well and the set bonus are pretty on par with the usage… Although something scared me… so the Vatlaaw’s armor only comes out the Mystic Forge slot machine? oh please… no… that’s the only reason i NEVER plan to get a legendary…
Guess it’s TA or HoW for me…
EDIT: or even Arah, since i noticed the poison set bonus, btw i’m down with TA, since the set bonus is better, and fyi i guess it’s obvious that cosmetic means close to nothing for me.
(edited by Ariete.6509)
I’m kind of lost in choosing the armor right for my playstyle.
I’m running a build i really enjoy as 0/30/25/0/15
To make that traits really shine i came to the impression that i should be aiming at gear with:
Condition Damage,
Precision,
Toughness.
The most suited exotic gear can be obtained in the Honor of the Waves and the Twilight Arbor Explorable tokens (still not sure which, maybe i’ll run both and see which instance i enjoy the most to run as farm).
I’ve also found gear with these 3 stats on the karma vendor just outside the Arah Dungeon.
I currently have about 360 CoF, 140 AC and 45 TA tokens while sitting in about 250k karma points and virtually broke at about 10g and i have 22 laurels.
What would be the best course of action for replacing my rare set into an exotic one?
ATTENTION:
I seem to have found a way to go around the issue:
I switched the language to Spanish (my wife has problems with english, thus making spanish easier as it is closer to portuguese); it loads in, then i click the word “Jugar” = play, inside the game i’m able to switch back to english and i’m good to go.
Even if you don’t know any other language you can probably switch back to your language by sense of the options/buttons/functions.
Hope it helps till they fix it, see you in-game.
Please share them, still haven’t found a use for this.
Just the other day i was doing an event concerning babysitting engineers to repair a bridge.
I had a glimpse of hope since i had to hold my own on both sides of the bridge (no other players around), so i cast guard on the side of the bridge and proceeded to the other edge of the interrupted bridge, unfortunetly as soon as i hit the water, the pet changed to aquatic, then back to terrestrial once i hit land, thus resetting the “guard” usage.
So close…
well either way, Bug Report has been filed, it’s either a functional bug or a tooltip bug (on the boon tooltip), i really hope the latter.
er… i feel too powerfull in Orr Arsenic… let alone 50-75…
and please this isn’t a discussion on cross profession balance, overpower/underpower. It’s about the Downscaling feature.
Guys please, understand the intent behind the sword:
you can keep a permanent snare on the target with cripple and your own built in leap, but it has a sat back: you limit your movement.
Learn to time dodges in between that window of opportunity on the chain, then sword becomes your best friend.
So the tooltip on signet of the hunt states that it passively gives 25% movement increase to you and your pet but after you equip it, by mousing over the boon above the utility bar it clearly states that the movement increase is 10%, while if you select the pet it doesn’t even specifies a percentage.
When i boon myself with swiftness i notice a major increase in speed, which leads me to believe that the actual speed is 10% while it would be awsome to have the 25% similiar to other professions.
I’m one of those that really fell into the whole “the world is your playground concept” yet the downscale in the game still isn’t enough, even after the recent tweak i still 3 shot everything in lower zones.
I hate the feeling of trying to do stuff in lower level areas and still bursting down every enemy with minimal effort.
What i want is challenging gameplay throughout the areas i come back to explore and for the first time ever, this game is giving me a wish to become a completionist and even more so because of the fact i haven’t gone much into jumping puzzles (only stumbled upon a couple).
So i came up with something to really downscale myself: gear. I care very little about cosmetics and it doesn’t bother me having gone through most content and not feeling very powerful.
The problem is that my pet still feels way too overpowered. I know i can simply toggle it to avoid all combat, but even not choosing ranger for the pet, i grew fond of micro-managing the pet, i’m even one of those that run dungeons with squishy pets for the challenge of keeping it alive.
Any other tricks besides equipping the crappiest gear around (i use some mats i have lying around to craft low-end gear, or even go up to armor/weapon vendors, anything goes to gimp myself), specially to make my pet weaker (i run 15 points in BM)?
Any thoughts from people with this same taste will be welcomed.
Love the initiative!
Overcoming the obstacles makes the world go around.
For now i’ll just go on necroing this thread, in exchange of a bump.:

See you in Tyria
Hi there, thanks for stopping by.
I mostly dislike the ranged weapon choices on the guardian. One of the reasons i rolled guardian was to do a inner challenge of accomplish running dungeons in full melee. Yes, even the situations where is almost mandatory to go ranged.
For now i realized the synergy of the Mace/Focus due to 2 abilities granting block, one blind (pratically the same result) and one regen generator, that plus shelter on the heal.
On the second weapon set i was thinking sword and shield specially for the the blind and the knockback to cope a situation with two many smaller adds, although the other weapon set is really the backbone which i hope can make this attempt work.
I wonder though if anyone attempted this, with guardian or other profession, mainly for the challenge of being able to hold it at melee range against almost impossible odds.
I’m still lvl20, so i’m still a bit far from having the opportunity to try this, giving that little to no one is doing story mode, thus making me 15 lvl down the road.
This post serves to feel the room temperature and get a feedback of how delusional i might be to even daydream about this…
Thank you in advance for any lines you wish to drop.
