Someone mentioned unload from thief in good measure, i mean you can trait to pay the initiative cost, virtually making it spamable and you can trait to make it aoe, how does that not equate? If you can’t deal with a rapid fire every 10/8(traited) sec, that ranger deserves the win tbh.

We can also compare with warrior’s Rifle Volley on 10/8 sec + kill shot, we’ve all seen a mesmer insta killing someone with a Greatsword… FROM STEALTH.

If these complaints to make a nerf happen… what? Give longbow it’s irrelevant nature from previous patches?

May i remind you the obscurity of longbow in the recent past. The only viable build with a bow, was shortbow+gs for the Daze/Stun increase trait, and we all know how exactly strong is that build.

Edit: even with using an asura specifically for tecnobabble, to make it remotely viable and that’s WvW scenario only obviously.

I was about to do some crafting and i noticed earlier that TP went down, at roughly the same time Wiki for Gw2 went down aswell. Ok coincidences happen.

Half an hour later, TP came up and yes you guessed it, Wiki also went up, is it managed by Anet?

Ok i had to see it for myself, since i HADN’T EVEN NOTICE THE BUG.

I hardly ever put my pet on passive and he doesn’t die all that often, what i do frequently is to juggle the Attack/Return and that’s working albeit with a minor annoying delay on the return function.

You guys are total bullies. The man took the time to address the issue publicly, not on satellite means of communication, but in the official forums, and you guys keep the monkey costumes throwing feces at someone who gave you some respect.

When Anet doesn’t say anything, they get the feces. When they do come out straight asking for our understand, they get the feces. Just imagine how frustrating they work must be when you behave like spoiled brats.

Of course is gonna take time, i mean if he opened a thread for specifically this…

Grab as many turret related traits as your level enables you (skip Accelerant-Packed Turrets though) find a spot with somewhat high spawn rate mobs, bonus if there’s an event happening, spread Thumper, Flame/rifle, rocket and healing in a star shape then alt-tab, just check back every 5min.

Whenever you feel like it, follow all those previous advices from people before me.

Personally I see the problem not in the existance of this mechanic but rather the fact that ranger lacks other mainhand melee options.

Nonsense, axe MH is a melee weapon with a really wide cleave.

What if there was a trait that removes the leaps (which also removes losing control) and maybe adds something in return (short bleed stacks f.e., post your suggestions).
Alternatively they could just remove it and add a trait saying “Sword autoattack chain skills leap to your target.” for people that want the original mechanic.

I see you mean well, but i can see the leaps being… “hardcoded” if you will, into the AA chain. I saw something about how they implemented fury on Greatsword trait and suddendly broke a trait in marksmanship, took them like 2 days to reverse it back, point being that there’s more to trait mechanics other than a flip of the switch.

The idea is to shut down an enemy every 30sec with ambush and use both venoms while ambush thief is up, in 10 interval, and of course to really tip the scale when thieves guild is up. Stealth is the tool to remove conditions and squeeze a cheap blow here and there.

Sorry to shamelessly hijacking the thread but it’s related.

I’m sitting on 40AR Plus 5 on an ascended sword. With 100ish more relics more I’ll be able to infuse my back. I’m lvl 38 and was wondering if would be the right move to switch 5 of my infusions from 5 pieces of jewelry to +8 gems netting me +15AR while spending “only” 50ish gold in the process.

Tldr: giving my current status what’s the most cost effective/best future prospect to bump up my AR?

I’m one of the defenders of sword, but don’t turn off auto-attack in order to use it.

I do admit I’m losing out on the chance of using the AA to disengage and jump around, I simply don’t like the button mashing which brings my point.

There’s no real dps loss in turning it off since we all know most players will flurry down that button for a grand total of a hundred presses for each three skill chain, at least they know that interrupting the mashing frees them to move.

Put Geomancy on the sword and you might strike something to your liking and yes, it does stack with sharpened edges, it’s possible to get 2 instant stacks of bleeding, trait+sigil

We all thank jubskie.3152 for the collection of guides compiled in his thread. I know it sure helped me understand my pet among other things.

Nowadays this particular player has been afk for over an year and several of the guides on his thread are outdated to say the list.

Meanwhile we still have great players providing us some good guides, particularly wauwi’s, which encouraged me to open this discussion.

I mean, is there a way of a moderator to give away the thread ownership or is it better for us to come up with a new one and unsticky the abandoned one?

A sharp 180 turn with the mouse with a tap in the strafe left/right roughly at the same time, also breaks the chain for the dodge. I also do this little combo to align my cleave better to make the angle just right.

Well think about it: the shield doesn’t necessarily mean off hand weapon. Maybe Mesmer use it their main hand leaving the offhand open to say a pistol, Bang! You’re a Riot police officer.

The point is for you to really kitten the choices you have and if in some cases you come to a sense of “i need this trait, oh but that one is so good too, oh i have to compromise one of them”, that’s good game design, hard choices also makes them meaningful.

On the other hand if all the important traits are spoon fed to you, then we get the cookie cutter builds which everybody follows to be optimal. If there’s room for a discussion “… but that trait is better for this, this and that” – again that’s good game design.

I believe the comparison with atunements has its ground but it lacks a pinch of toolbelt skills. As in legends would enhance slotted utility skills.

What I understood was that there three states: channelling legend A, channelling legend B (whatever both may be) AND a state when you’re not channeling neither and thus using the utilities/elite/heal you had picked.

Still my conjecture nonetheless

Been on and off, i have tryed to pull off the infiltrator’s arrow “jump” when near a ledge, but i can’t seem to make it work, where you would teleport to an upper position when near a small hill, has that been fixed or something?

All of those methods to circumvent a problem that shouldn’t exist results in a DPS loss.

So please don’t persist with the whole ‘l2p’ argument.

A dead player can’t do damage, so unless you’re planning to do dps sprints a golem dummy, those “methods to circumvent the problem”, as you put it, are nothing more than simply playing the game.

I also play a guardian occasionally and since the account bound fractal and ascended gear, at high level fractal and some dungeons.

Many times i’ve seen my energy bar low, while wielding a sword and thought "where’s my ranger’s #2 #3 skill when I need it? And that’s probably a l2play issue on my end too, because if I’m out of dodges, I probably blew one that I should’ve saved.

On a ranger if I time the animations right I have two dodges plus two get out of jail cards (I almost never weapon swap to break the chain).

Question is, are you humble to admit you can get better at handling a sword?

What more do you want? You’ve come to the forums presenting a problem you’re having. Many testimonials and tips have been given, but you keep the “I don’t like it, change the rules of the game to my liking” attitude…

Honestly why bother, sword thief, warrior, guardian, Mesmer are there for the taking, these are the Ranger Sword rules of engagement: want to permanently snare your target with two on demand evades? Then here’s two leaps for you to manage, deal with it and come on top.

One more for the “sword is fine” band wagon.
Time the animations with your actions. I’m even able to carefully WASD to aim the cleave effect, one thing I can add is to quickly 180 with mouse view, coordinated with a sidestep to disengage the chain, on top of the previous mentioned tricks (weapon swap, off hands, utilities-lightning reflexes says hi).

I can safely say I have near total control without turning AA off and I don’t PVP mainly.

But hey, people will always have stubbornness to adapt.

75% of my game is to dungeon, kinda of a casual player due to time constraints thus making my fractals’ kitten only up to lvl36.

Eventually up to sometime ago, my pet rarely died, then ANet buffed all summoned to +70%hp, so nowadays my pet dies in: being targeted on Maw, crossing boulder bit on COF P1, last boss HOTW P3, kitten … i’m sure i’ll think of more.

Anyway, a well timed “return to me”, oportunist Pet Swap, overall positioning (i melee the most in dungeons) and the choice for a ranged pet, makes all the difference.

We can’t be playing different games.

Engi’s vulnerability stack sure is impressive. Tried a lvl56 myslef (before trait rework) and the only thing throwing me off the engi is the might stacking: you basically need to sacrifice your kitten nal to bring a lot of blast finisher, than drop a fire field and manage to link all those finishers together, after roughly 15 sec you have to drop all of what you’re doing and focus to pull off the entire combo again… it’s a very active and selfcentered might stacking method, although i haven’t dismissed the idea completely.

I’m divided between the PS warrior or the Thief Venom share, although that Ele tip earlier does make me wonder, even tough my ele is lvl20ish…

Hi,

Crazy schedule here, can’t really live up to guild participation so i end up pugging a lot.

Dungeons is what i love the most so i end up pugging a lot. I know the strength of the might/vulnerability potential, which is something puggers neglect. So question is what are my choices of worthwhile builds to bring those two myself,

Now i opened two windows on wiki, one with might another with vulnerability, but what i need is practical insight of its effectiveness. At the moment i’m running a guardian with Binding Jeopardy, Blind Exposure, Symbolic Exposure , Inspired Virtue, Empowering Might but then i was doing a dungeon and some pug complemented another pug (this warrior) for bringing Phalanx Strength, which i guess is stronger than my two traits.

TLDR: So hence the question, i can see in paper what skills/traits bring what boon/condition but then again dunno in practice what’s more effective. For example i keep daydreaming about thief’s venom share with the Venomous Strength and stealing with Thrill of the Crime, and engineer for the insane vulnerability stack with bombs etc… so how does these options fare with each other?

This class makes pve irrelevant.

Really loved the introduction of the exploration and slow pacing of traits, so i elected a thief to be my new pve guy.

Unfortuanetly once you know Black powder is there, unless you’re really forcing to toy around other abilities, simply having a pistol on the off-hand and timing blackpowder to perma blind your foes it’s just… too much access to blind, it makes most of pve irrelevant tbh, or am i missing something at higher levels (lvl28 atm)?

EDIT: oh and btw, the signet for the 25% increased speed… yeah that blinds too and there’s even more access to blind without relying only on initiative but nvm that, there’s also utilities to get you more initiative so spamming blinds it’s a given.

Introducing the absolute solution for class imbalance, intended for PVE/WvW (at first): Secondary Profession!

Now, now, don’t start bashing, hear me out: It’s not in a sense the first Guild Wars had it. This idea enables any profession to take up any single school of utility skills from any other profession, and it can only hold one type of skills from one secondary profession at any given time. Also it would be fair to have that secondary skills not being affected my traits, that way professions with similar types (traps, shouts, etc) wouldn’t be over-synergized (is this a word?), if you know what i mean. Also healing skills and elites should be off limits aswell.

The way we obtain could be through talking to another profession trainer, choosing the utility cathegory desired and be presented with a quest: it could be killing a certain world boss or completing a certain explorable path for instance.

This way you can imagine a least desired class, let’s say a Necromancer for example and having that Necro talking to a Guardian trainer, choosing consecrations as the desired utilities, completing Honor of the Waves Path 2 and being granted the possibility of having the invaluable wall of reflection.

Let me know what you think, would love to get some feedback on this possibility.

I only skimmed through the 9 pages of posts but a point has to be made.

The problem is not the zerk itself, but rather the one-shot mechanics and above all the Blind, Aegis, DODGE skills in the game, that make defensive gear near redundant.

That said, if you’re not bringing the A dps rate gear, you’re not seeing the reality of things. I’d accept maybe Rampager or Assassins. The other gear has its place, in wvw for example.

Bottom line, don’t hate the player, hate the game. Now about the game, you can day-dream about how the game should be for YOU, or you can work your way surpassing the challenge of the game as is, it’s up to you.

Hi,

I just did a dredge fractal where a Thief was the key for us to doing the bomb bit. I also heard of a CM path where a Thief can solo the whole “pillow jumping bit”.
What other situations in PVE have you guys found the thief to be gamebraking?

Drake for sturdiness, cleave auto and blast finisher, spiders and devourer for the range and snares respectively. Drakehound is almost a given when roaming.

Several different comps, depending on the situation.

Although my special two cents go for active and frentic usage of Attack, return and swap with an ocasional “Guard” (with double ranged devour/spider, it’s like having a mobile turret). Perma passive is just lazy workaround.

A 400 leap on #1 1st of the chain does sound ok, but the possible spam abuse is a problem, altough the interrupt built in the chain is a step too further in my opinion.

I was also wondering about this, and even opened a post about it, although i still think Skale venom is stronger than spider’s, Just because it can easily mean an almost instant 25stacks of vulnerability plus the hard-to-come-by torment. Spiders would just end up being… overlapped.

EDIT: Oh and i’d also swap the shadow step for smoke screen and grab de 20% deception reduction, from a PVE perspective taht is.

Oh, ok. The idea would be to use the venom share in full berserk. I totally subscribe the zerk supremacy.

Although if you mean the sacrifice of zerky stats for following the Shadow arts tree… well i’m sure my party can live with considering the upside.
