As was said earlier, you have to use the LFG tool to taxi into lively maps. The reason I can say with confidence this will almost certainly solve your problems is, I’ve been consistently doing every map’s meta and hero points on various characters during oceanic/sea (the two most dead times for the game).
However, I definitely see where you’re coming from when I’m not using the LFG tool. The maps I naturally zone into seem dead by comparison, with rare exceptions.
(edited by Arius.7031)
Mouth of Mordremoth…
…since I can’t have that I guess Mordremoth. May not be a dragon, but at least it’s a solo fight with actual mechanics behind it. Good soundtrack, Mordremoth himself is cool, the fight feels a bit like fighting Diablo. Just wish he did more damage.
That death was completely and utterly unnecessary for the story. Completely.
It had a story impact, though. Judging by the community reaction, the death seems to have packed an emotional punch for a lot of people. For many it made the victory bittersweet, which I think was intentional.
Killing ANY character has story impact, that doesn’t mean any time you kill someone and there’s a reaction it’s a good thing. There is such a thing as cheap deaths, deaths for sake of shock value alone etc… If a death doesn’t substantively contribute to the story (ie Eir’s prompted Broham to take up her mission and caused him to develop into someone with a drive to see the Elder Dragon’s undone, moreso than most other characters).
Trahearne was written out. It wasn’t natural, it didn’t feel like it belonged, it felt like fan service, and analyzing the situation rationally I’m pretty sure that’s the case.
1. from the very beggining trehearne replaced a dear NPC character to me, That had just died, my mentor and I was thrust into HIS story of a wyld hunt, which i deduced from the conversation from the pale tree the first time we met…
No you were thrust into the story of killing Zhaitan, which involved his wyld hunt but is not limited to it. This is why the end mission is victory or death, NOT the source of orr. You’re flat out wrong and it has been proven.
This is one of the myriad of common complaints made by Trahaters, and it’s among the least intellectually credible of them all (and that is saying something).
Probably Dragon’s Stand. I’m no expert, but 100% event uptime when the map gets going, and legions of mobs to kill = a lottttt of exp and solid cash as well. It also, in my opinion, is the funnest content currently in this game (fairly difficult but still succeeds more times than it fails, very large scale, very climactic/pretty).
Just to note the chances of stumbling into an active instance of DS early on in the meta is pretty low, you’ll usually have to taxi in using the LFG tool (esp during off hours, I play oceanic and there’s usually at least one DS push going).
There’s just no way he wasn’t killed as fan service. That death was completely and utterly unnecessary for the story. Completely.
I would have liked to have seen Trahearne be our ‘best friend’ that accompanies us through the future living world/expansions. The other characters mostly feel distant or like subordinates (ie I’m somewhat friends with Rytlock, but I don’t feel like we’re bros, just two folks with a common goal, or with Marjory we may be friends but first and foremost she’s my subordinate, she talks up to me, calls me boss/commander). Did anyone ever notice that Trahearne is the only character to regularly say “my friend” in reference to you? When the personal story happened, the later steps were essentially you and Trahearne making it up as you go, learning to get through the tough situation, and evolving into a world leader and one of the most famous combatants/commanders in Tyria.
As bad as the personal story was in many ways, I still get chills down my spine hearing this line at the very end of the source of Orr:
“Trahearne: Here, at the end, I am glad that it’s just you and me. We will cleanse Orr together—as we were meant to do.”
Say they do 4-5 expansions, if they had let him live through 4 or so of them and then killed him (after developing his character further, perhaps redeeming him in the eyes of this somewhat jaded community) his death would have been so much more meaningful/impactful. Instead they basically offed him first chance they got with some weird explanation like “lolz mordy corrupted me gotta kill me or he’ll respawn in me, forget the thousands of other corrupt sylvari, minions, or the fact that is in fact the jungle, if you kill me he dies if you don’t he lives lololol”.
Anyone who has even dabbled in games like Rappelz
This a thousand times. Even when purchasing Stamina Servers (a thing basically required to level in the game in question, they’re bought from the cash shop) you could spend hundreds or even thousands of hours of pure grind (that is, killing mobs in certain level-appropriate areas, no quests, not hearts, just killing things).
You people do not know what a serious asian grind is if you think this is it. Not that I don’t somewhat agree ANet’s philosophy seems to have changed to be more inclusive towards non-casuals (I’m casual myself), but silly hyperbole is just silly.
So what you’re saying is, you can just walk outside of Unrelenting Assault’s range? Or not move into it to begin with? Clearly not a Mesmer player.
I have over 1k hours on my mesmer and 6k in game. I’m no Mesmer pro, but I’m a duelist so I know them by playing it and by fighting them.
You’ve got to face the facts. Unrelenting Assault is-
- The damage of hundred blades (not exactly, but it aint no BF either)
UR does no where near as much damage as hundred blades, and it is not cleave damage. It’s proven fact Rev does significantly more dps by auto attacking than by doing UR, the DPS on UR is not that big.
- ..but doesnt root you.
No, but it places you wherever your target is, thus leaving you open to any sort of trap they want to lay. When I duel other revs and they go UR, I laugh and drop a hammer 5 on myself just as they’re about to come out of it and burst hard.
- Can’t be stealthed out from
I might be wrong, but I’ve used it against people before they went into stealth and it stopped working. The skill is so buggy that it might just be due to it being buggy, idk.
- Can’t be teleported away from
This should have been included in it not being kite-able once active (which I concede). No need to add fluff points just to make your case more convincing.
UR is strong in a 1v1 fight, nobody argued otherwise. When will people learn the game is not balance around 1v1. UR’s damage is literally halved by just have 1 other entity (whether it be an npc or a player) present. UR bugs out against walls. UR locks you into follow that target even if he’s planting aoes at his feat for the second you come out of UR. UR can be negated in ways burning speed/blurred frenzy can (ie shocking aura).
Double dodge or block is simply damage mitigation. No more “counterplay” than using a dodge or block for any other single skill in the game -_-u. But if that doesn’t float your boat, regardless of how you look at it, Unrelenting Assault is broken. Dump the evade, let the channel be interrupted. Rev’s will learn not to spam it vs bosses pretty quick if they keep getting downed using it. Problem solved.
Yeah except UR does less DPS than sword auto attacks and the damage becomes horrifyingly bad if there’s more than 1 target present. Not to mention it costs energy. Your nerfs would make the skill completely unusable.
Y’all think too much in terms of 1v1, unrelenting assault is fine as a skill overall because it’s only good for surviva in groups, it does virtually no dps. Unlike blurred frenzy or burning speed, it has one MASSIVE weakness, the fact that it does not cleave. Burning speed and blurred frenzy are amazing for cleave, in blurred frenzy’s case particularly on stationary ones such as downs. UR can’t do this, and this is not just a weakness, but a massive one.
You really think i care who i fight against? I just wanna wvw and with deserted bl i cant!
500 gems, grind gold in game and use the currency exchange. Quit being lazy, don’t destroy the game for others so you don’t have to do a little bit of work. Transfers are cheap now, you have literally no excuse.
(edited by Arius.7031)
Yeah and now ask 10 WvW people from these bottom servers if they also think these qualities you mentioned trump being able to actually play WvW on a more than infrequent basis.
Your post reminds me of some North Korean situation, where policewomen are assigned to direct the traffic to uphold “orderliness” and a “clean, neat image” of the capital, and which they vigorously do day-in-day-out – when there is in fact no traffic around her at all.
It’s been a recurring theme that most people from low tiers actually are against the merge option. This thread has happened many times over, and it’s usually high tier players arguing against low tier players, high tier supporting merges low tier against it. Again, I’m from Darkhaven, we were in tier 6/7 for over two bloody years. You act like I don’t speak from experience. And no, the game was not less dead for some time periods I was in t6/7, the glicko drought was the single deadest time for WvW in low tiers that has ever happened. Ever, and that was pre tourney 1.
Fact of the matter is, decent population transfers are available for 500 gems. 500. That is incredibly cheap. If people feel their tier is too bad, they can easily leave since the server population changes. Ehmry Bay is beating Henge of Denravi right now, they’re a 500 gem transfer. NSP/Dh/Db have more kills in our matchup according to the kill/death API than t3 itself and we’re only high pop (in fact two t3 servers are only high pop, relatively cheap transfer cost).
Optional opt-in solution is already in place, forcing people to merge when it’s clear most people in lower tiers don’t want that is just the higher tiers forcing their personal opinion on how WvW ought to be played onto lower tiers. Gotta help them poor, defenseless low tier people, they can’t possibly know what’s best for themselves, so force it on them, right?
If you’re low tier and want out, farm gold and get out. Go. Don’t destroy a valid playstyle/server identities for everyone else because you’re too lazy to farm for an hour a day. That’s idiotic on the best of days.
I don’t know if it’s just me, or if it’s due to the somewhat recent arrow cart changes… but the arrow cart in this mission 100% cannot hit any of the Mordrem at the east gate. The AC will start with a green AoE, then when I attack it turns to red saying there is no line of sight or something like that.
(edited by Arius.7031)
Bioware with SWTOR released to many servers and eventually had to suck it up and merge servers to help the population, that game obviously has no WvW, however the game was improved because of this, while GW2 still has 24/27 worlds with a game mode that requires a consistant player base to make it relevant.
Server merging may cause considerable amount of damage in the short term for some people, even long term. However doing nothing is arguably much worse.
Key word in your final sentence isn’t “worse”, it’s “arguably”.
SW:ToR had to fuse (mostly) because PvE sucked for the servers. Megaservers take care of that. For those who prefer a 24/7 gamemode you have EotM or high tiers. t1/2 both have servers open to transfer to. Deleting the lower tier servers will destroy a very cultured and appreciated style of play that a lot of people prefer. Not to mention it destroys the culture/identity of each of these unique servers and effectively kills the game for server-loyalists (who do exist, despite the “fiites fites” propaganda you’re prone to hearing on these forums).
Anyone who tells you a server is the same as the other is BSing you, community-wise they’re generally night and day.
Not every skill in the game should have counterplay.
And rev sword 3 has about has much counterplayed as blurred frenzy or burning speed. It’s not like this kind of skill is just out of the question.
Ele is the most viable of all of those—it fills not only a good but nearly required role in every game mode (heavy dps in pve, the key to backline in WvW zerg busting, apex predator of WvW roaming, and a very well rounded PvP 1v1/team fighter).
Rev is like ele in that regard, though a little less desired in most game modes due to less support and not a key part in the backline of zergs (no static/water fields or).
Engi is great for PvP, okay for WvW, but generally not particularly desired for PvE.
Ranger is generally not wanted or needed for any old content. Druid might change things up, but I haven’t seen druid in action so I can’t say. I hear they’re the best in slot dedicated healer, but then that’ll still be the only way you’re really useful to any group in anything.
Arius you are clearly unable to understand the situation. I’ve already stated we can tick 695 in OCX when we rally with 20 people. We want to WvW against people, not cap empty structures.
People who come out and say ‘tell your server to play properly’ are morons. I’ve been on 3 servers from high to low tiers, playing ‘properly’ has nothing to do with getting fun or winning. WvW is PURELY a coverage and numbers game.
Unable to understand? I’ve been a WvW purist for three years, since the game launched. Most of that time I’ve spent in t6-7. I know exactly what WvW is like for low tier servers, I know exactly why it can be annoying at times.
I’m going to blow your mind with two facts:
1) The reason why the WvW population hasn’t increased is because of PvE. My entire (pure wvw) guild is in PvE all day. Once the PvE starts to be a little less fresh/enticing, people who prefer open world type pvp will go to do what they can do for a long period of time.
At the absolute least the request being made here is premature because numbers are in flux. At worst it’s irresponsible and ludicrous.
2) 0+0 is in fact zero. You wanna know how much OCX Dragonbrand has? About as much as any t7 server, and they’re the top of t4. Off hours doesn’t improve that much by fusing servers whose primary population is NA.
No. Instead of forcing everyone into something a lot of people don’t even want, tell your server to stop being kittens and gather into one map. Guess what, having other maps have a balanced population outside of the 1 you’re on doesn’t actually make the game more fun. Even if only 1 map is populated, that’s 1 map you can play on and have fun, no different than having 4 maps populated. 25 is enough to make a map fun (ish).

IDK what people mean when they’re saying Mallyx is not good… Mallyx gives you immunity to conditions, a massive heal when you’ve been condi bombed, and the elite increases ALL stats by 10% + pulses out torment (this means it’s good for condi builds or other builds).
It is literally useful in every game-mode to an extreme degree. Arguably, it’s near impossible to play PvP without mallyx as you’ll die to any condi class. In PvE it’s completely viable (see: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/revenant/Guide-DPS-Revenant-for-PVE/first#post5678481), and in WvW it’s easily in the top 3.
I think the consensus us Glint = Shiro > Mallyx >>> Jalis >>>>>>>>>>>> Ventari. Mallyx isn’t always best, but it’s necessary on condi builds, gives good anti-condi gameplay, boon stripping, and a very solid passive dps boost.
To the OP: Yes, Revenant is very good right now, in all forms of content. It’s not necessarily godmode in every one, but in a lot it’s top tier.
Civil war, ohnoes.
#TeamLostPrecipice
I don’t mean the story. Least not just the story. I mean the sizes of maps, the amount of masteries to unlock, new rewards (whatever they are to work towards to in xpansion etc).
Btw about maps i heard “4 big maps”. 4 maps with 3 biomes each, or is each biome considered a full map?
Not all of the maps play heavily into the 3 biome thing necessarily, but yes the maps are huge. They are much, much larger than normal maps and have more content relatively to boot. They dwarf silverwastes/dry top, for example.
lmao, remember those of us saying this “expansion” was not worth the full asking price?
All of you were like, they havent released all the info yet, there’s also living story, the maps are big with 3 levels, etc etc.
Do you think it’s still worth it?
Yes it’s easily worth it in my opinion, but that’s up to individuals.
In addition to what we get now, we get living world and raids in the future. I’d say it’s worth it from what we have right now, and I’d say most people agree with that, but add on the content we’ll get in the future? If anyone is legitly a fan of gw2, I don’t see how you can avoid buying it.
(edited by Arius.7031)
I very much agree with this. I feel like the number 250 was chosen as a trap, such that Anet can say they “compromised” and anyone who is still unhappy must be “unreasonable.” However, I have yet to hear anyone satisfactorily explain why providing an instant elite unlock (e.g. via a Story quest) would be detrimental to players. Concerns about “progression” are disingenuous because the mastery system is still there.
Perhaps Anet is telling me (and those like me) that their game really isn’t for me. That would make me sad, because I felt GW2 really was for me compared to the other MMOs I’ve played.
“Satisfactorily” is a lofty and vague demand for an explanation. I doubt very much you’d ever be satisfied by an explanation for an opinion that is different to your own in this case, because that’s how it works inherently with different opinions.
To say that masters provide progression is not to say that people ought to want them to be the ONLY thing that provides progression.
Elite specializations add a new class mechanic, new weapon (and all possible skins that weapon entails), 5 new skills, 3 new minor traits (granted 1 is usually fluff), and 9 new traits. To those who like to earn certain things in games they play, this seems like something that could fairly be seen as a good choice for some end game progression. Especially considering it’s optional, not required (many builds will NEVER use an elite spec).
Why shouldn’t a legendary, or say Volcanus, just be unlocked in a personal story step? Can you explain that to me in a manner that satisfies me personally?
I bump for Olcan, not that Tryden guy. My friend (Nutmeg Crudum) started playing other games with him, then shortly after she disappeared from gw2.
Screw you Tryden! This means war.
This is the exact kind of post made when teq was first reworked. Same when tripple trouble worm first released. “Hurr durr I try 3 times just after release and fail I cri everytiem”. If it’s bugged, wait til it’s not. If people are bad, teach them, practice yourself, or wait til they’re not.
It’s funny that all of the positive reviews are blanket 10’s that do little more than admonish anyone giving a negative review. The fanboys are out in a tour de force, only there to skew the rating.
It should be a 3.9 permanently. I think that’s accurate.
And the 0 reviews that are out in force are generally substantive, patient, and well thought out?
Funny watching fanboys and haters square off and pretend that the other one is the bigger kitten. You’re all kittens. HoT has a lot of good (tons of quality of life, guild halls, polish, improvements to the base game such as leagues, additional content for every mode, variety ie repeatable adventures) and bad (lots of grind but not enough content to make said grind interesting, WvW map basically kills the game mode for lower tiers outside of EB, massive grindfest for one elite spec one char).
The funny thing is, both sides should be waiting to post until the fullness of the content is experienced. People forget, in addition, that this expac also includes living world updates and raids, neither of which are really here at the moment. 0s and 10s are both premature.
There are currently 24 servers right now. Most of them are medium, of them are full, and the others are high/very high. Reducing it down to 6 would be insane and crowded in WvW. Cut it in half would still be insane. Completely crowded, and highly likely larger Zergs…
With the current map size, large groups would probably be a great thing honestly. I’m in Ebay (medium) and it has been quiet lately after the WvW update. On the old map, I enjoyed the fact that my server were medium because I didn’t like zergs. My small group and I (5 people) take over enemy garrison (guarded to the core) using tactics, not numbers.
Overall, I wouldn’t say 6, but maybe 12-16. It would be livelier to have more people in this new huge wvw map
The new maps feel empty because people are still in PvE mode. It doesn’t help that most people don’t like the new maps either.
You’re saying bandwagons are due to off hour transfers? Sorry, I don’t agree with that. In the same way that we accomodate OCX/SEA for “variance”, EU accomodates French Canadians, Mexicans, and even a good few NA players. They have the exact same sort of off hour disparity that we do, Baruch’s Bay is their version of Dragonbrand even rofl.
I am saying few if any players are “bandwagoning” in the US since the Full lock and probably not much since the last tournament. There is no place to bandwagon to in the US. Maybe SoS as the transfer is cheap and puts players in T2. Even in that case much of that was from TC to SoS which isn’t a bandwagon.
It’s not only high tiers that are/can bandwagon O.o. The largest bandwagons in the history of GW2 come from the depths of bronze, and since the new population mechanic takes time to adjust nothing can stop people from bandwagoning currently. Db is a bandwagon lol, Dh was to a lesser degree though we’ve shed some of our transfers.
Further I’m talking about history, not necessarily what’s happening now. NA has a history of bandwagoning and fixing tiers, that’s what has put us in this position (for better or for worse).
Bandwagon… where would someone bandwagon to in the US servers? About the only server worth transferring to that has a reasonable cost is SoS which is being artificially held at High rather than Very High or Full. Nobody can get on the Full servers.
The US servers have more regional variance (larger time zone disparities) and a significantly larger regional pool than the EU servers. That has far more to do with the current tier imbalances than somehow EU players being better in some way.
It’s not saying they’re better to say they’re different, and they are. Anyone who has played EU knows it’s different from NA in more ways than just having different languages. Different metas, skill levels, culture, etc…

Current tier imbalances are due to many things, chief among them being bandwagons and tier fixing.
The “tier fixing” of this tier was more about CD,SBI and MAG almost never taking anything and just fighting each other outside of keeps and towers for the first 2ish months of the tier. If you remember CD had to fight past the 2 bandwagons of HoD and NSP while only getting 2 guilds, everyone said we would never make it(mag and sbi thought the same at the time) there was never any plans for CD in tier 3 but we outlasted and kept focusing the largest server(hell I remember you posting awhile ago about how you where impressed that CD left DH alone and kept hammering NSP). Anyway to the point when Xushin came into our ts asking if we wanted to work together we said we just wanted to fight and CD would stay tier 3 if we could hold our own. When we got to tier 3 the very first Saturday this happened https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6mKI1-HDTs&index=6 and we fell in love after fighting ppt servers for so long and never wanted to leave so did what we could to stay and never drop down(and so much offhour ppting was done). Then tier 2 transfers and you know the story but more or less this tier was made this way with alot less working together then you think.(Also CD has to make itself look stable in the tier for the transfers to even happen)
Oh I’ll take your word on it for CD not actively trying to fix the tier, though you guys were definitely bandwagon (as you may or may not remember, you received 3 full NA guilds from Dh alone lol, our fattest/worst ones at that). I mean, just a few months prior we had been facing you and you guys were barely at t6 population lol. You went from that to defeating Hodb and NSP after they received the ET transfers. That’s a pretty big bandwagon all things considered lol.
Exactly. The NA ladder is more stratified because GW2 has no Oceanic servers and at release had no Asian servers. The players from those regions for the most part played on NA servers, and over time they found themselves moving higher and higher as only a few servers had the off-hours coverage to compete.
Now we’re at a point where outside a guild here and there almost all of the SEA/OCX guilds are clustered in T1-2. If those players spread themselves out, the top four tiers of the NA ladder would be reasonably balanced. But it is not in the interest of the SEA/OCX players to scatter, because there is not enough of them to populate four tiers. And despite the meme that they only want to PVD, that is not true. They want to have people to fight.
But EU has a similar ‘problem’ with NA players lol? They have loads of French Canadians, Mexicans, and even some normal NA players who cover for their off hours much like SEA/OCX do for ours lol.

NA doesn’t have language specific servers – that naturally spread some of the pop out. I have been told that Europe off-hour doesn’t tilt a match like in NA keeping the scores closer…..
That doesn’t account for the difference though. In fact, the simple fact that all servers in NA are English means that people have more liberty to spread out and choose where we go. We don’t have restrictions.
The simple fact of the matter is that EU is less prone to bandwagoning, stacking, or fixing tiers than NA is. Some people like stacked/fixed tiers, good for them, but those who are in those tiers have to realize this was done intentionally. It’s not by accident that t3 got so stacked and so fixed, that was the intention.
This isn’t unique to your tier. It’s part of the overarching problem with how WvW works. There’s relatively little movement within the brackets.
Except this isn’t a problem in EU at all. The difference between t1-3 in NA is about the same as t1-6 in EU lol. They have incredible matchup variety in most tiers.
This problem is brought on by NA’s tendancy to bandwagon and create “fites tiers”, nothing more. Mag/CD/SBI all bandwagoned to make fites tier, the consequence of this is the glicko between t3-4 will grow because of the pop disparity created by the ascension of each bandwagon to t3. That’s why t1 first, then t2, and now t3, all have massive glicko gaps. When Dh was in t4 we could RNG into t3 cus the glicko wasn’t that much dif, then bandwagons.
It’s not the system, it’s the players. We screw ourselves over. Blaming the system is just a scape goat.
Edit: Oh and to demonstrate my point, look at EU t1-4 atm:
T1 – Rank 3-5-7 servers
T2 – Rank 9-6-1
T3 – Rank 10-2-8
T4 – Rank 4-13-11
All of these matches are closer than t3 currently is. Lol, the problem isn’t in the system, it’s in NA. We just keep telling ourselves it’s the system…
(edited by Arius.7031)
That is a super cool addition actually lol, satisfies my inner ppt nerd deeply…
Hey there! We have a recruitment thread where you can find out contact info for all our guilds here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor/Darkhaven-is-going-to-war-Server-Recruitment/first#post5572768
Judging by your post, you may be specifically interested in:
Hope this information helps! And to the guy posting you’d like to transfer the guy off Dh to SoS, he posted [Dh] in his title… kinda low man.
Feature Request: Slice the new K/D ratio by timezone like you do for PPT and glicko rating.
XD
I strongly support this notion, would make the k/d ratios so much more useful…
(o_o)—o
Le bump, Dh especially needs NA prime players/guilds. We have solid round the clock coverage in literally every tz, mostly just need NA prime and some OCX!
Had some great guilds transfer and the big news is insert drum roll
[TAG] IS COMING BACK HOME!!!!
http://theavantgarde.enjin.com/home
WOOO!!!! Hop onto TS3 and listen to Bowdo drag race command! Seriously, dude goes from barely awake to one million words per minute then back down to chill in the space of 10 seconds! Hopefully he lasts longer with the ladies, if you know what I mean. And I think you do. wink wink
Did we just roleplay? I think we just did.
Come join us on Darkhaven! The server that stares at walls…
Welcome back to TAG, best ppt blob guild NA!
I guess the only solution is to move away from the server idea…ESO made few things right, WvW campaigns were one of them.
Basically there are active like 10 campaign and player would join what they prefered. This would need some adjustment/balance, might even be tied to a guild level decision, dunno.
But that would resolve population issue greatly.
Every campaign in eso has population issues lol
Arius,
That’s a good way to look at it. That’s not necessarily stacking to be No. 1 nor moving for balance. It kind of encompasses both effects.
Also, us players have imperfect knowledge. It is really difficult to determine exactly how many others are moving to a server and the delays with glicko and now the population status change make it harder. Not everyone pays attention to discussions happening on this forum or the other one nor do they do their due diligence in scoping out their destinations. And glicko is some sort of voodoo that most players don’t understand.
Nono Chaba we can’t agree, the world might end. Think of the consequences to the very fabric of our reality!
Jayne, just because you spent a lot of time early in this game recruiting for TC when TC didn’t need it doesn’t mean everyone else in NA does. You don’t think anyone in NA tells people not to come either? They come anyway!
Stagnation is caused by players wanting balance, not No. 1.
You say that players in NA just want to be No. 1, but over time many came to realize that that’s boring. So is being on the opposite end of that no fun. Players want balance because the matches are more fun so they’ll go to where they can get it. That’s why T1 became 100% glicko locked. That’s why T2 became 100% glicko locked for the first time in history. It’s also why T3 is now almost 100% glicko locked for the first time in history.
You were gone for a large amount of time from this game when the population in the lower tiers collapsed in such a way that T5 resembled T8 of the past. At one point there were literally no T3-sized servers. And yes, that has a lot to do with Dragonbrand’s SEA population holding that server up around T2-T3 when the rest of the timezones were more like T4-sized. That was not balance so players move. HoT announcement brought a lot of new players and returning players. Without it, WvW would look very different today.
I don’t think you’re correct on this one. What you say could be true if not for the fact that a massive amount, if the not the majority amount, of transfers are to bandwagon servers. Take, for example, Dragonbrand (multiple times, including now, which make no mistake they’re a huge bandwagon right now, Dh is a bandwagon and they slaughtered us), Maguuma (on their rise back to t3), CD (when they were in t4 and in season 2 which saw more of a mini bandwagon), HoD (recently in the HodB fusion, or even bigger during 2nd tourney).
There are many, many more examples I could list, but I hope my point is taken. I think it’s blatantly obvious that people in NA do not move for balance. If they did, we’d have more of an EU situation. Instead, people here tend to move for community and/or position (that is, they like/know/admire some people or the community of server X, OR they like the position and population of server X).
I’ll grant you there’s some definite transfers for balance. But not all are that way in NA, indeed not even most. That’s why we have so many lopsided matches, so many bandwagons going up and down (in fact, as I’ve been here since launch probably like you, in my time I don’t know if there was ever a period without at least one active bandwagon server, maybe for a short time here and there but otherwise don’t think so).
Also the lower tiers collapsed 100% because people transferred upwards (mostly into bandwagons). It wasn’t people quitting or anything like that, as someone who was a member of said lower tiers, it was mostly because people wanted to stack bandwagons or t2 servers.
Bump for great Darkhaven. Awesome server consider joining us for a nice variety of matchups and possibilities of being in 2 very solid well-rounded tiers.
Well I’m talking about their SEA. No we’re EU, SotD is SEA. Db’s SEA has 5 active raiding guilds and loads of pugs, pretty sure that’s freakishly huge by any definition outside of t1/2 xD. In fact pretty sure they’re bigger than t2, they were when I last saw t2’s sea (yb-fa-sos matchups).
As to Sold we’re a roaming guild that plays in EU time slot. You’re probably thinking of SotD who’s our main SEA guild.

Darkhaven used to bank on their SEA to carry the server. What happened to DH SEA? I thought you guys had 3-4 anchor SEA guilds?
Good luck on your server recruitment and rebuilding!
It’s just Dragonbrand. We’re wanting to be able to compete with them specifically. The only reasons we couldn’t beat them are SEA and NA prime. Our SEA is still larger than any server below t3 except Dragonbrand, but Dragonbrand’s is so freakishly huge we just can’t do anything.
And thank you! It’s unfortunate we won’t get a shot at NSP, since if we rise up it’ll probably be NSP we replace since HoD… means we’ll always be dodging each other ):.
Welcome [PACT]!
Darkhaven is a great server for any playstyle, we let guilds do their thing no stress. You a fights guild? Do your thing. You a PPT guild? We have guilds who will work with you, fights guilds who will help you if the enemy blob is showing up. You just wanna do w/e? Cool, so do we. Long as you’re a cool person/guild, no matter your playstyle, you’ll fit in on Dh, we have it all. Good tier for fights, good server for community, good tier for havoc, good tier for roaming. Consider joining Dh

Yeah tier 5 at the moment is more akin to tier 4 than it is to tier 6. It may even be bigger than tier 4, with Dh and Db both being around t4 in size and SF being respectably large (we have less NA than Db and we queue multiple maps on reset + a map queue with guild groups to spare on normal NA days). Until Db RNGs out of tier 5, it’s not a great place to be in terms of matchup variety but still better than t1-4 in that regard.
Overall the tier would be incredibly solid. Db needs to move up, but even in spite of that it’s a very balanced tier. On my part I’ll definitely recommend tier 4-5, as below is too dead and above is too blob for consistent roaming IMO. Even in tier 5 the blobs are quite strong with near daily NA queues in EB and guild groups on bls.
Come join Darkhaven! We’re bringing Singles Mingles night back!!
woahhhhhhhhh it’s Rocket oh snap
Darkhaven is a server of fighters, in everything. We’ve been facing one of the biggest bandwagon servers in a long time (their population is probably larger than HoD at this point), and we have not given up. The harder they push us, the harder we push back. Every time they waypoint one of our keeps thanks to their SEA, we knock the waypoints out of all of theirs. We’ll fight in the OS, we’ll fight in the open field, we’ll fight in keeps/towers/camps, and we will fight you underwater with upscale rangers because that’s the real endgame of gw2.
Also buy my book “Darkhaven Ascends”, featuring short stories written by the real guild leader of SotD Lazy and Empress Pangie, and the entire history of Darkhaven chronicled in exacting detail from my perspective as resident PvF deity. This includes the age of Rethesis, to HVN/HOT and the legend of the Half Naked Norn, through the times of ABYS/SE, Grampa, and our lord and savior Trident the Automatic.
So yeah join the server, but more importantly buy my book. Please buy my book.
I read your entire post, and while thought provoking (and indeed this is a problem in larger scale events), I think you’re completely wrong.
As a long time member of the WvW and PvP dueling community (as a fairly high end member), I can tell you that even most amateurs can reliably see and dodge basic high profile attacks from enemies. I myself can dodge pretty much anything non instant cast. As a d/f ele player I very easily spot appropriate skills to 1) reflect 2) projectile destroy and 3) invuln though. Even on visual effect spamming classes (e.g. ele/engi/mesmer), this is very easy (with the exception of asura where they have the exact opposite problem of not having enough of a “tell”).
I’m not even close to unique in this regard. Any mid level duelist can do the exact same thing. The key is in playing every class or fighting them enough to learn to spot their tells. I learned by 1) dueling a lot and 2) playing every single class to 80 and then some in a pvp setting on multiple builds. This will allow you, even if the particle effects are super flashy, to spot virtually any tell in the game (again, there are exceptions and times where the environment can make it hard to spot tells e.g. mid point on legacy of foefire makes me unable to see things like mesmer pistol 5 because of the bright color).
Unfortunately, just honestly, it is really a l2p issue. It’s not impossible, you’re not physically restricted from doing it, you’re just not applying yourself enough it seems. You have valid points but overall I just don’t agree with your conclusion.
Server loyalty is joke most wvw guilds always jump if theyr current server gets 2 blob by or there are no 1 to fight on borderlandd
“hurr durr ppl don’t play like me therefor their playstyle is joke lelelelele”
Seriously, quit with this silly type of post people. Some people enjoy the game based off of community, not just a server name, or just fights, or just ppt… People all play for different reasons, some more than just 1 reason (I play for all 3, fights/ppt/community, community being the most important).
I don’t know anyone who has stayed on their home server for 3 years. (bronze league)
As someone who played at launch, not only do I know a few from my own server who have (Dh), I know some from FC for example have as well. Kaineng too. It’s more common than you might think, if you’re trying to imply it’s unheard of (can’t tell if you’re just being literal about “I don’t know anyone” or you’re trying to make a point with it).
Expandas you’re too nice. Makes it harder to hate Db and trash talk them every chance I get :/. Staahhhppppp
You realize:
1) This has happened millions of times across every server for literally years
2) You guys did the EXACT SAME THING LITERALLY YESTERDAY
3) Nobody caresI care, and every other player who wants to use legitimate tactics for attacking an enemy but now cannot because of the new bs locations used by cheaters who place spawn siege way out of reach on cliffs in citadel that can hit the north towers, cares.
I thought it was ridiculous before but now some of the places Ive seen are beyond pathetic and clear cheating and needs action by anet, there is a spot where a treb can be placed so far back to cover nwt where you cannot even see the treb, only the projectile coming over the cliff.
Now anytime someone wants to attack a north tower, or enemy garrison from the tower they have to contend with some cheater sitting in an out of reach invulnerable spot firing away.
GG you pathetic cheaters regardless of server.
My point is nobody cares in regards to the server. This is no less kittened than “haha server x you suck cus you have a hacker!”. Those types of posts, and indeed this post, always have been and always will be kittened. We’re three years into this game people. Really, report it, even publicize it, but stop pretending you’re morally outraged at a server for doing it, that’s utter kittenation. I’m not even kidding about his very own server doing this like a day before his op. That’s 100% legit we were trebbing their garry and from nw tower and they trebbed our nw tower from citadel. I didn’t cry rivers, I moved on.
Also why do you care honestly? I don’t like this, nor hacking… but do I care if someone reports some random hacker on the forums? No…
