Regarding the cost of waypoints:, this is by design and largely wont change. Here is why:
-There is not subscription fee for this game.
-Consider the cost of paying employees, overhead for the building(s) that arenanet occupies, infrastructure, equipment for their employees(laptops, desktops, etc), maintanance, creation of new content, etc. You do need consistant revenue to pay for this game if it is to stick around and continue evolving throughout the years. How do we do this without a subscription?
-Gem store. “Hey you can purchase gems via real life money in the gem store”
-“Once you have your gems, you can trade them for gold to use in game.”So consider:
-“Man all of this waypointing around, repair costs, high material costs for legendaries, ascended infusions, etc…it requires lots of money! Man this game really revolves on having a boat load of gold. How do I get this quickly”
-“Ah, I know. I’ll trade in some gems for gold”.Youll have people with the mindset that they will buy 10$ of gems per month to offset the cost of what they would pay in a sub game per month…trade that in for gold. Or the idiots that will spend 200$ a pop on gems for gold. The entire game revolves around gold. It makes everything spin.
So while 3-4 silver a few times a night wont make an enormous visible impact on your gold in the short run, there are a lot of people that will offset this via real money and THAT is what arenanet counts on.
They need that real life money to continue their monthly updates, so any avenue to get it(including keeping travel costs high), they will leave alone.
Or, more interestingly, ever wonder why there are no mounts in the game? Do you really think it is because they want the player experience to remain intimate with the world and community? No, it is so that you waypoint around, spending money, see your in game money start to dwindle the lazier you get, and contemplate trading gems for gold…thus buying more gems to do it all over again once you realize how easy it is.
Arenanetis a company and needs to make money, like any other.
With all of this said, and even my previous post….The game is still better than games like WoW in many areas. I think WoW does dungeon grinding a bit better. Blizzard handles bugs and QA tests their game wayyyyy better, but I do think that Arenanet has the opportunity to continue to make this a fantastic game. it already is, but you can see some direction they are heading and I hope they don’t continue down the path of the wow clones via dungeon grind, small item progression, empty zones, etc.
The developement cycle for gw2 was 5 years at a cost of $16.3m per year @ lets just average box sales to $49.99 initial sales were reported at 2m+ boxes I think this is more of a corporate greed issue than a revenue problem kind of like the US government having a spending problem rather than a tax revenue problem.
And not only will legendaries have their stat’s upgraded in the very near future they will also be BiS for the foreseeable future meaning they will be upgraded from content patches and expansions and remain relevant.
The slippery slope of gear progression becoming the meta end game content with its insatiable appetite for more… driving content pushes to be more gear driven than creative driven, Lost Shores come to mind but I digress.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Free speech is not protected here or in this game. Just like you cant come into my house and say anything you like something that I may disagree with or find offensive (offensive being anything I disagree with) in which case I can throw your kitten out with a swift kick in the said kitten
people saying that the personal story is optional must think everything in this game is optional like map completion because without atleast partially completing the personal story you wont get map completion which leads to not being able to create your legendary but I guess it wont hamper you from your perpetual no life outside of Lions Arch begging for your next FotM run.
The reward should be much better. All the rewards that are given in Fort Trinity were useless for me. I choosed a longbow with stats i dont need just to spend the reward. Later i bought a new (exotic one). By the way, even before the final mission i already had weapons from drops better than those rewards.
People constantly get hung up on stats. The reward isn’t about stats. It’s about the skin of the weapon. Pact weapons are only acquired through the personal story. If you don’t like the skin, then don’t bother with it. But don’t complain about it because it doesn’t have super awesome stats.
Tier 3 cultural weapons don’t have super awesome stats either, and I don’t see many people complaining about those.
And as for the stat kittens you can thank AN for that since they decided to be stat pimps after they reneged on their manifesto.
There have been plenty of threads since launch about the cost of cultural armor costing way to much for just skins and as for cultural weapons nobody cares since their skins suck.
And what is wrong with me having additional inventory space, or faster access to exotics, or a pretty skin? That’s not P2W in any way, shape or form. I shelled out some cash, supported the game you and I both play and got something nice in return. Devs win because they get money, you win because you get not to pay a sub and still fully experience an AAA MMO and I win because my money actually bought me something useful.
P.s. You can quite easily get exotics without paying a gold through dungeons or karma and it doesn’t even take that long.
To me it means nothing but to say its not (converting gems to gold) an advantage is shortsightedness and uninformed. Take 2 competitive players in a race to be first max crafter, lvl80 etc the person with more disposable income that can invest in the gem exchange will win everytime that is a fact and in lay terms shows it is to some extent p2w.
P2W? I don’t think you know what it means. P2W is when there’s an exclusive item in the cash shop that causes the player to have such an advantage that no amount of skill can surpass the gap:
SPvP boosts everyone to 80, unlocks all skills and gives standardized gear.
WvW is mostly group based, but at cap, Skill can surmount the difference in stats.
All content is available in-game.
Not seeing how the game is P2W.
Keep the B2P, since it guarantees money for further development.
The meaning of words and phrases change over time the old paradymn of what p2w means is evolving to mean more than just stats of an item for sale by real money in game.
If the game was F2P, things would be a lot different. Repairs? Canisters only. Trait manuals? Gem store only. Legendary components? Gem store. etc etc.
There would be so many bots that the prices of everything would be nothing. Gold would be worthless and the exchange rate would be extreme.
If being able to legally buy gold = P2W = should be F2P then…
Have you played WoW? Is WoW P2W? Did you know Blizzard sells gold?
P2W is when a player who spends $ is stronger stat-wise than a player who doesn’t or when the player who doesn’t can’t catch up to the player who does within a reasonable amount of time.
less than 2 months ago you could buy the mats to craft a set of exotic armor, jewelry and weapons for under 8gold, or buy them already made for under 14 gold. Today it will cost you over 40gold to buy everything., I know I just did it.
There is no way you will have that much gold by level 80 if you are a new player, level a character through crafting (even if you farm mats to use for craft) run dungeons so you buy and convert gems to gold to get your exotic set is that not pay to win.
Now some would argue that you dont need exotics to play the game and they are fools to think that. You can start to equip exotics at 65 iirc and at 65 you will trash anyone of equal skills in rares or mastercraft gear in wv3 for obvious reasons.
Again people need to stop tunneling on the idea item stats is the only form of pay2win.
and furthermore Blizzard has never sold gold and is currently in several anti-trust lawsuits against gold reseller sites your conspiracy theory that they are behind gold reseller sites is childishly laughable
You make no sense at all. I fail to grasp how market prices have anything to do with p2w cash shop (which doesnt exist in this game). You blame ANet for player driven market?
Please refrain from posting replys like this it make you look silly.
I made no assumptions regarding market prices and who is in control of it but that would be a good topic of discussion is it really market driven or is it being manipulated by AN but I digress. My only point is that spending real money in the cash shop to buy gems to convert to gold is an advantage to those that can afford it and it does give an advantage over those that cant in so far as time investment.
If the game was F2P, things would be a lot different. Repairs? Canisters only. Trait manuals? Gem store only. Legendary components? Gem store. etc etc.

edit: you could have 40gold by the time you reach 80 if it takes you a month to get there but if you play linearly through the game and not purposely drag out leveling to 80 you’ll end up with with approximately 12gold that is the amount if you do dynamic events in every zone for map completion.
(edited by Asglarek.8976)
Or you could play a mesmer and have to turn off titles (achievement based) so you dont get focused down in pvp because your clones STILL DONT SHOW TITLES OR MAP COMPLETION MAKING THE TITLE PAINT A HUGE TARGET ON YOUR CHARACTERSASS SAYING HIT ME IM NOT A CLONE
All the changes we’ve seen in GW2 since release reflect one singular motivation and that is to drive/nudge people to the gem store.
You have to remember all the past /present/future changes to the game will all be focused on keeping people spending cash in the gem exchange once you accept this you can then begin to understand why things seem to be bungled, scattered about with no general direction in which way they want to go with this game.
They definitely need to do something in the Guild department Guild Wars without any Guild Wars is like ordering a ham sandwich and it being delivered without any ham (no offense to vegans, Jews, Muslims and Hindu’s).
Lets just be honest nothing outside of 25man+ raiding with huge raid size dungeons will satisfy hardcore mmo’ers and without the defined trinity of role’s that isn’t going to happen in GW2.
Maybe ANet can try their luck at reputation/faction grinds.
Theres no good or bad reasons to level or for that matter to even play GW2.
Slightly peripheral to your topic and question, but I caught an allusion to a potential underwater theme as setting for some / most of the “expansion” (I know we’re all just completely, 100% guessing here though). Whatever possible new race could be included along with whatever else may get thrown in, an underwater setting would be absolutely disastrous unless they get that little “immune” mob hiccup (read: massive game, quest, champ / vet, mob, dynamic event shattering MAJOR issue at least in roughly 50% or so of every under water encounter currently in game).
As it stands currently I avoid any under water activity involving fighting a mob as much as I’m able to. This has been a huge issue for me personally from the begining and it has recieved approximately ZERO or less attention as far as I’m aware. I don’t recall even seeing it referenced by anyone from A-Net come to think of it (though to be fair I don’t actively look).
I’m not just kittening about it, I’m not abandoning the game or demanding a refund or organizing protests or anything. All I’m saying is that if they’re going to add much content under water, especially important content which one wouldn’t want to just simply side step, this MUST be fixed, in my humble opinion anyway.
In addition, casting conjecture on raw guess work here LOL, if they were to write the Tengu in it seems at least possible that some form of arial combat might be possible – which low and behold would involve a Z-axis like under water content. Stands to reason the same problem would be inherent there too.
Honestly we’re stepping so far into the “realm of maybe” though with this topic and discussion everything I said above is about as close to irrelevant as one can get without having never actually even played the game! Lemme run get my 7 year old nieces thoughts on GW2 and their potential “expansion”, it’ll be just as relevant. LOL!
If they added flying with their current z axis I would have to quit the nausea associated with their z camera would make my stomach explode.
I hope you’re being sarcastic. Everything is effected by hyper-inflation on Nov14th you could buy/craft a complete set of any exotic for under 8 gold try to do that today, TP prices will reflect any change positive or negative on the BLTC gem exchange.
No, they didn’t screw me though. Only 3 left, and they left me in charge. I don’t want to screw the other 16 because the 3 left.
Then pass it off to someone else and bail out, obviously you are incapable of leading.
Good players leave bad guilds and bad players leave good guilds, however, good players do not leave good guilds.
Its a player issue, not a system issue.
So essentially you’re saying “Do nothing” about the problem?
It’s like climate change then. Just ignore it and maybe it will go away.
This is one of GW2’s biggest issues. MMORPG.com and now Gamespy.com have both run articles about this issue. Numerous people in this thread have noticed the problem.
I don’t expect people with less than 500 hours in GW2 to realize it is even a issue but to those of us who are well over 500 hours it’s become apparent there is a pretty big problem with guilds in this game.
Say it’s a player issue all you want. Any economist would argue that it’s a system issue. Are you going to ask people to interact more in Guild chat? Stop guild hopping as much? Good luck with that approach.
Maybe we should just ask people to stop whaling, elephant tusk hunting, insider trading……….yeah, that will work. Maybe we should just ask people to get along instead of having laws next. 10,000 years of human history would disagree that works.
Argue all you want about human nature, it won’t change human nature.
If you’ve got over 500 hours of game play time in a game thats not even 4 months old you have more serious issues than broken guild mechanic.
To be honest, I think this is more of a player issue than a game one.
Yes, the guild design is what enables players to guild hop, but it’s the players themselves causing guilds to “fail.”
For instance: no one uses /g chat anymore, instead using Vent, TS or in my guilds case, Skype. Why chat if you have your main members in a 25 slot vent? This creates an atmosphere of no one talking. After a while, someone sees an ad for HUGE GUILD
and reps them instead, because having that amount of players, people are bound to be G-chattingThe fact the the article concludes with “they need a dungeon finder” which would basically solidify guilds as throw-away if implemented, kind of makes the whole of the article’s complaints moot.
Human beings use systems that are available to them.
Blaming players is not the answer. Blaming the systems is the answer. Players are not going to ignore an available system.
Changing the system is the answer.
Your post is the same as saying that banks should regulate themselves. How about we change the system so bankers have to act responsible instead of leaving it up to them. It’s tantamount to asking a 2 year old to regulate themselves from the cookie jar with a open lid on the floor next to them.
How about we just give people a system that encourages guilds rather than kills them.
So basically you’re saying players are stupid/irresponsible and expecting them to act reasonably and responsibly is bad design and asking too much?
All the game has is a means for players to represent whatever guild they want, changing that won’t change the revolving door approach to player expectations for guilds. The fact that most players in guilds have probably known each other for years, and are in a 3rd party communication solution is a huge problem for new players looking for guilds.
Players being to stupid to regulate themselves? UM, hello banking industry. Um, hello humans with power.
Yeah, people regulating themselves works out real good am I right? Maybe we should just get rid of checks and balances in government and we’ll just trust them to regulate themselves.
You know like how Walmart pays their employees better and better every year, oh wait.
You know like how children with a bag of halloween candy will regulate themselves.
You know like how the Dodo bird is still around because people regulated themselves.
You know like how Rhino’s and Elephants are doing well because of self regulation.
You know how the rich don’e abuse their money and power in politics to get lower tax rates.
People are great at regulating themselves. >.> 10,000 years of human nature, numerous animals being hunted to extinction would disagree with you.
Was your anecdotal hyperbole contributing to comic relief on the forums? You make it as if only the rich canabalize themselves but in reality crime rates in lower income areas dwarf those in affluent areas.
There hasn’t been checks and balances in the political arena since the first executive order.
The rate of animal extension at the hands of humans pales in comparison to natural selection. The root cause for the extinction of the DoDo bird wasn’t by the hands of humans nor species introduced to maurititus island they just facilitated it the bird was doomed because of its specialized evolution ie; being a flightless bird… evolution was not kind to the plethora of flightless birds left over from pliocene epoch.
Yes and so has AN

There are no IP restrictions on what server you join.
Probably not for the near future maybe someday.
What happens if you’d like more Bank space? Or you have 5 toons and would like to roll another ? Or maybe you’d like a semi-decent armor skin and didn’t want to grind 40 dungeons to get it ?
So you are unsatisfied with getting 5 Characters to level 80 (which is hundreds of hours of playtime), along with two different PVP modes to keep you occupied for the 50$ you paid
LOL hundreds of hours of playtime for 5 level 80’s, silly you can get to level 80 in a matter of hours not days, weeks, months literally 5-8 played hours per character. Heres a hint you can max all trade skills multi-times, it takes roughly 20-30gold, a few crafting boosts and you’re good to go.
so essentially instead of seeing the imaginative outside world, you bought/ got from the sky 20 – 30 gold for a character and just grinded crafting for 5 to 8 hours? What fun is in that? I would not even deem you able to comment on this game then, because you obviously did not explore 99% of it.
If I invest 6-10 hours into GW2 daily, even with raising my profession up, the maximum I’ll go up will be 10 – 12 levels. Not more. Having 2 level 80s and raising another character up I feel as if I already had the moneys worth of this game, just because how much time I invested in it, so if it suddenly broke or I got bored of it, I wouldn’t regret buying it.
Played through the game on first character, doing dailies, map completion, farming and saving mats etc etc . Rolled 2nd character had maybe 30-40 gold in bank found out you could suspend tradeskills without losing skills used mats I had and crafting boosts from chest I had collected got 3 more 80’s in the span of 3 days easy peasy and now I can stroll through the game in any zone/dungeon I want to in my multi-box train of ownage.
In the 13th century it was common for the peasants and serfs to blame the king’s advisers for their woes while exonerating the king.
Can we please get past this? The purpose of a company is to make money for those who own it, work for it, and invest in it.
The responsibility of workers/purchasers is to be savvy. Cunning. Smart. Dare I say jaded?
Are you happy with GW2? Great, carry on. If you’re not, stop spending money on the god kitten thing.
Thats the old paradigm and its incompatible for the new world order of globalization of economies. this video illustrates it best
Thats all well in good hindsight 20/20 an all but data mining says otherwise as do the meet and greets during beta weekend events where they named exotics and legendaries …well we’ve been over this forever nothing is going to change yours or my views on it.
And to say what they introduced in Nov like its a cake they just whipped up is just facetious. The lead time on that type of event is atleast a year from concept to release so it coincides with atleast the publication of the manifesto blog post and other dev posts during the lead up to beta weekend events.
Regardless whats done is done the only thing left to do is go forward.
Many of the advantages of Steam already exist in GW2 – primarily the ability to download the game from anywhere and play as long as you know your login info.
Beyond that, Steam is a social network for PC gamers – it lets you keep in touch with friends and family that you play with and makes it very easy to invite people or join in their games. I also use it to give my kids games to their accounts and I don’t have to worry about lost codes or discs.
However, for GW2, I like it not being on Steam, I like to casually poke around the TP during the day without it looking like I just play all the time to my Steam friends…
Sounds to me its just a game lobby where you get inundated with ad spam where they want to put cookies on your comp to track your buy methods. Is there a lot of spam on Steam?
Never understood the reasoning behind steam for PC games to me its just a updated version of Uplink for those that dont remember Uplink it was the first incarnation of a multiplayer platform for sega genesis that would allow access to the then relatively new intrawebs through your console which had no network code enbedded in its software which would immulate IPX networking.
God I miss kali and heat.net.
Personally I think people are hoarding gold, maybe this will have a good effect and spill over into real life where people will learn to be savers instead of impulsive buyers and there only means of a savings account is their credit card cash limit.
people don’t want to give Anet money any more.
I do .. And every friend I have in GW 2 are still doing that.
Only because few angry players on the forums dont want to give money to Arenanet doesnt mean anything
Ive spend already about 300+ euros on gems and its still rising.
You are forgeting one thing. ARENANET has tools how to measure everything. They know how much money they make trought gems, they know everything. We dont.
So you can just make assuptions all day about how is nobody giving money to Anet but the facts could be totally different.
What if Arenanet is making morey money after the lost shore event than before?
What if players are playing more then before?
Did you consider this maybe?Just because few players complain more on the forums doesnt prove anything.
We just dont know … Arenanet knows.
Seems like you think you know with a statement like this: "Only because few angry players on the forums dont want to give money to Arenanet doesnt mean anything
/facepalm
AN are doing extensive checks in the background the player reporting tool is just part of the redundancy security system I’ll just say Warden redux is alive. and well.
The argument used to illustrate the silent majority to be those that are happy with the game just keep playing and never come to the forums is not sound reasoning or logical because the same reasoning can draw the same conclusions of the silent majority being unhappy players that dont visit the forums.
So realistically the only conclusion you can make is that only about (insert any number) 3% of the player base visit the forums or any social media outlet while the other 97% do not now lets be fair and divide that in half so about 48.5% are pro and negative leaving whats is represented on the forums the majority so if this forum is running 60/40 negative it does infact tilt the results to what represents the majority representation.
Please read this defining sentence from Wikipedia:
The silent majority is an unspecified large majority of people in a country or group who do not express their opinions publicly
If you read the wiki further it would show an example of the protesting of the Vietnam War.
I am old enough to have been here in this time. Those protesting (in this case those coming to the forum) were a minority. Usually college students. The rest aka the silent majority were going to work everyday just trying to make ends meat for their families and for a good share supported the troops (maybe not the war, but the troops)
This is the silent majority here. They support the game for the most part or like it as is.
I have been in MMOs for 20 years. I have been in many games. I am speaking from first hand experience. Not assumptions or hearsay.
So to say the silent majority is a falsehood is an assumption without any backing through first hand experience or documentation.
Plus we have an Anet rep who clearly states that those on the forums are a minority.
Since that is the case where is the majority?
they aren’t saying anything. Gee I guess they are silent.
My point was that the assumption that the “silent majority” is in favor of these recent changes goes without refute just because you are silent does not conclude anything otherthan you choose to be silent remember “correlation does not , never will imply causation”.
Your example of the Vietnam protests only proves my point. The vocal minority made both foreign and domestic policies that have come back to haunt us here in the USA but reading the news papers in 1968 and watching network news made you think everyone was against the war in southeast asia but it was just not the case when you consider less 1/4th the military up till the end of the draft was made up of draftee’s now correlation does not imply causation but young people were still enlisting even after watching ole Walter and his uncensored slanted grotesque reporting.
And people think news media manipulation is something new.
It would of been nice to have auras or a hue around certain dyes to make them stand out as a poster stated between celestial and white dye theres no difference.
Personally I would sell it like other have said and use the profit to buy a comparable color if needed.
There is a difference. It may not look any different if you are male*, I can’t be sure.
Celestial Dye is a much brighter/truer white than White Dye. Midnight Ice is actually a very deep blue-black, and Abyss Dye is a much deeper black than Black Dye. The appearance of these colors is also dependent on the shader** of the item being dyed.
Abyss dye may look deep black on one item, but on another it may look like a dark grey. However, Abyss Dye will still be a deeper shade of grey-black on that same item, than Black Dye would, just as Celestial Dye will be a brighter white than White Dye. This is why these items are so costly, even if the drop rate may the same as any other rare dye with the same icon.*Men can’t differentiate shades of color as well as most women. It has to do with the gene that codes color residing in the X chromosome (of which women have 2).
**Shader refers to the combination of rendering effects on an item
I use 30" NEC MultiSync PA301W running xr7970 and the color palette differences between the celestial and white, black and abyss are minimal at best, celestial having a little satin shine look and abyss a little more gray scaling nothing major especially when viewing them on anything under xd2560x1600 with near perfect saturation.
As to your point about the items base shader effecting its new shade I noticed no changes whether the item was originally shaded black, tan, yellow or green.
My point was to make an issue of dye effects and that they could use something tangible as an improvement something the differentiates them proportionately to their lesser palette cousins not which gender see’s in higher definition and my wife concurs with my findings, minimal at best.
one thing they need to change is account wide guild membership.
The argument used to illustrate the silent majority to be those that are happy with the game just keep playing and never come to the forums is not sound reasoning or logical because the same reasoning can draw the same conclusions of the silent majority being unhappy players that dont visit the forums.

Did 3 champion events today no drops, killed 5 vets same nothing but trophy crap.
Cant comment on sPvP not much of a PvP player myself but I feel some of the stuff you mention are issues with the players rather then with the game!
Example: "5 minutes later your zerg will be gone and an enemy zerg will arrive and take it back. " How is that an issue with the game? Its players who decide to to move enmass from objective to objective! its even bad strategy! leaving a small defence force is enough to defend a keep, the game even rewards you for defending, in the case of the castle, it rewards you massively! what more can it do? Lock the castle once you take it so as to ensure everyone will definitely ignore it because its safe now no matter what? that would be going the opposite direction you’re asking for imho!
Worst yet taken objective isnt really meaningful in WvW, holding them is! The game really did everything right to prevent what you’re saying but alas some players dont understand what WvW is about and just are looking for the action or something!
Wrong players only utilize the mechanics in which they are provided. In this case the only mechanic in Wv3 is to be highly mobile preferably with a huge force. People often overlook this common WV3 mechanic if a hold point in wv3 is not occupied it decays so AN put in place this zerg mentality.
The PvE issues you mention are also coming from players themselves! something that really puzzles me is the appearantly large number of players that claim to love horizontal progression but turns out they all flock to vertical progression the moment it was made available! Horizontal progression isnt about power, its about having tons of content to play! Gw2 certainly has that but like you yourself said some people will never stray from content that rewards the most! thats vertical progression mentality I need to get more reward to get better and better! Gw2 implement both game play styles and to do that made sure all content is doable no matter what armor tier you have! Wearing rare armor you can get in a day allows you to play all of gw2 content but I guess some people just cant live without having the best possible armor and the best rewards! that means they will always flock to one place until that is nerfed cause no matter what anyone does there will always be that one place with the best rewards! always!
Wrong again game mechanics nudge people in to areas of the game which is most profitable and in this case most profitable for AN.
Disagree with the classes comments as well. Classes are truely diverse, not just in terms of skill but also in the way you have to play them!
Wrong again, theres no diversity in the way you play and its by design. You have x build for dungeon, y build for pve, z build for pvp. To prove my point look at the way stats are designed and implemented on gear you have 8 different stat allocations on gear and 3 are all but worthless.
LOL Time magazine top 10 list along with person or the year list are junk. Any magazine that put Adolf Hitler, Mao and Stalin as persons of the year should be looked at with suspicion.
Anyway did you see the list now that list is funny but then again aside from Planetside 2 and Black Op’s 2012 was a crappy year for games IMHO.
It would of been nice to have auras or a hue around certain dyes to make them stand out as a poster stated between celestial and white dye theres no difference.
Personally I would sell it like other have said and use the profit to buy a comparable color if needed.

The question then becomes why does it seem like PC takes (took?) a backseat to consoles. I’ve even heard disappointments of how the Call of Duty franchise- used to be primarily PC- apparently sold out to consoles.
Call me nonconformist but I just don’t buy into the mentality of suddenly giving games a free pass for being buggy just because they’re on the PC.
Well lets see you build a game around a single platform that has a single configuration now compare a game designed around multi platforms and an almost infinite amount of configurations now logic tells you the latter is the more difficult… well atleast I hope so and who gives anyone a free pass these days.
Point out another game which was completely and absolutely flawless 3 months after it released.
Now you know the fastest way to get a thread deleted is mention a competitors game but theres a new title out by SOE and its freaking awesome.
And this is exactly why developers dont talk about every single step they make! Players just make it impossible!
So one time during the beta they share some technical details with the players, specifically saying the game was still CPU bound and they still had to work on that.
Naturally some players decided to take it as a permanent state of affars that never got fixed!
I bet that the game stopped being CPU bound by beta 2 when some graphical glitches started appearing such as textures disappearing and personally my frame rate doubled since that beta!
You’re confusing a flaw in the game engine with purposeful nerfs and admitted mistakes.
Bugs are one thing they are like the little dutch boy and the leaking pike, plug one hole and it opens 2 more so I can understand that but to purposely nudge or herd players to play a certain way to me is not understandable nor acceptable.
@SHM, I respect your opinion though I can’t understand why you have deleted your characters, and uninstalled the game.
You clearly feel strongly enough about this game to troll it’s forums.
I am not a troll. I payed my money for this game. I deserve to have my voice heard. We were duped. Three weeks in they changed the game to something else enirely different than the game I payed for. They also duped us with the manifesto.
I’d be more than happy with a refund. Since they won’t do that. they have to live with the bad press. However, If you like the game then kudos. Odd though that you respect my opinion and call me a troll at the same time.
Voicing your discontent towards a game that you don’t play anymore is “pointless” though you have that right.. Reading some of your other post however, would lead me to think your purpose is to convince others to feel the way you do.
To change what others think is the heart and soul of protesting to change something you first have to convince others to think the way you do either by words or at the end of a smoking gun.
From my view point, this isnt every other mmo. Most mmos the mechanics of the boss are the same each time you farm the dungeon making the dungeon a mindless set of routine encounters, spilling out the same dribble. You dont really have to be prepared most things that happen in there will have a counter easily done. In GW2, you dont have that you have to be prepared. Say last time you had a couple of players that knew what they were doing and used their crowd control spells to controll the boss (somewhat), it is goiing to be alot different from a group purely trying to zerg. Each encounter can be a new encounter depending on your group make up.
Its the same routine dungeon system you have in other mmo’s its just the learning curve might be a little steeper with no set roles but after the 3rd or 4th trip through the dungeon its same ole same ole.
lol sorry was being playfully sarcastic, Blackgate… mesmer… wv3 inside joke.
I love Malchor’s leap. It’s my favorite orr map and this is where I play when I’m alone.
You probably just need better organization. Everything in GW2 can be done with a party of 5 or lower.
Exaggeration much? No you can’t 5 man “Everything”.
As the years have passed and I slowly gained more responsiblities, my gaming time was cut significantly. Gone are the days of long raids, street fighter tourneys and COD all nighters. I enjoy having the feeling of accomplishment and usually a lot of time has to be put in to gaming to get satisfaction.
I thought I would not feel this ever again, but then GW2 came in to my life.It doesn’t matter if I play 30 minutes or 2 hours I always end my sessions with a sense of accomplishment. Although I would love to spend hours in pvp and wvwvw, the dynamic events, crafting etc. have allowed me to enjoy gaming while taking care of my responsibilities at home (my two kids are like charrs ANIMALS!), work and college.
Thanks Anet!
[Edit]
You are missing the point from the OP. For those posting in agreement. The game is exactly what it needs to be for them. Kind of a “be grateful for what you have” mentallity. Personally I am onboard as well. Perfect for getting an hour or so in before my family wakes up to start the day.
You can get that “fix” by playing tic, tac, toe with yourself and changing up x and 0 in center space it would be about as creative.

Are you sure you jumping in the pool and swimming underneath and not from lake side. Ask one of your servers mesmers to portal you through wall.
Theres no incentive to go to Orr or anywhere else in the game aside from map completion or daily karma jug everything you need is in Fracture (misspelled on purpose because all the dungeon has done is fracture and segregate the player base). You’ll earn more gold per hour running the dungeon that you would running DE’s or farming t6 mats so all you’ll need to do is play the TP for more gold and your T6 mats.
The whole Lost Shore update and everything changed and manipulated since release such as DE farming , Loot DR, Bot policing has been a complete boondoggle all in the name of corporate greed.
except that plenty of us are leveling out there really calmly and Orr never had a lot of people in it, because it’s a painful zone…
Don’t know when you started playing but there use to be overflows in Cursed Shores and Malcores Leap on occasion and none of the Temples stayed contested if they weren’t bugged before all these “incentives” were introduced.
And I’ve already got 2 characters world map completions working on 3rd now that has Orr completed so Im backtracking the lower zones now and atleast on Jade Quarry which is a full server the lower zones are as desolate as Orr.
