@Eurhetemec:
I am just now able to come back and read your response to make a coherent reply. I understand your position, and I respect it, however, I must disagree.
Nowhere in my original post did I say that everyone was divided into either category. Casual, by Merriam-Webster’s definition is simple more laid-back and relaxed in their play style than a hard-core player. I am sure there are hundreds, if not thousands of people who are somewhere in the middle, being somewhat less intense than a hardcore player, but more dedicated than a casual player in some respects.
The 3 things you listed in your original post are things that you think are issues for casuals. I don’t see them as much of a problem.
1. Time-gated items: By definition, a true casual doesn’t care. Why would I have to have those time-gated items if, as you said, I would only truly need them if I were a high-level Fractals diver? I, personally will never have any of those items… AND I don’t care.
2. Zerker Gear: I don’t think I have a single set of zerker gear… Yes, I may have a piece or two here and there, but my play style is different. Zerker gear is not the only viable set. I do fine with what I have. Thank you for worrying about me anyways.
3. The Living Story: This is a topic that has been discussed to death, so I won’t go into detail about whether it is a good thing or a bad thing. I will only address it as it pertains to casual play. I would rather see an event where half the server is participating because it’s a limited time offer than to sit around spamming “LFG” because everyone is either hanging out in town or off doing those much more lucrative dungeon runs. I would rather take a chance on an Overflow server than be guaranteed not to be able to complete something because there’s nobody around to do it. Just a personal observation.
You see, I am not trying to make an argument as to whether any specific person is either hardcore or casual. All I am trying to do is say that I think there is plenty of content for both ends of the scale, and everyone in between. It’s not anyone’s fault that there is a vocal minority that can’t have what they want when they want it.
I remember EQ1 with some not-so-rose colored glasses…
Yes, it was my first “real” MMO, and yes, it was a lot of fun, BUT… I do not miss Body Runs (or as I like to call it: Dude…Where’s my body?") having to get a cleric buff every hour or so or not being able to survive my own level content,or as Vayne said: Getting that 2AM. wake up call to go kill a boss…
There is NOTHING new under the MMO sun. It’s all in the way it has been put together. GW2 puts it together in a way that is pleasing to me.
1. Exploration… you can literally go almost anywhere within a zone. The only real “invisiwalls” I came across where in placed that there really need them.
2. Nodes! I can’t tell you how many times in other games that I would be fighting my way to a gather node only to have some (expletive kitten deleted) run up and harvest while I was keeping the guard mob busy. Thank you ANet for making that a moot point!
3. WvW…nuff said
4. The wallet
5. The details… I was telling a friend the other day how I noticed that the little pixel-sized bugs followed you in the swamp. Your footprints slowly disappear on the sand. When you walk on the road, you kick up a bit of dust in the appropriate areas. You get the picture.
There’s a lot more, but most of them have been listed already
A noble goes to a somewhat foreign people and raises an army with which to fight the existing monarchy. This army drives toward the noble’s home country and makes great inroads until the reigning monarch calls the troops home from afar to fight back. The noble and the gathered foreign army is beaten back until one final battle in which the noble loses and is forced into exile in yet another land.
Once exiled, the noble is never heard from again, and the story falls into history and lore, along with the artifacts of the war, although some are still seen for sale here and there.
No, this is not Scarlet and her Aetherblade minions, although we do not have enough of a back story about her to know for sure what drives her. The uprising I mentioned above is actually the real world Jacobite rising of 1745.
Now, keep in mind, that we will never see the Jacobite battles again, nor will they “cycle” next year. We can’t get “new” things from them, only resell the items we have.
This is the same mechanic in the living story. It is something that happens, and is gone. It may or may not ever come back. It falls into “history and lore.”
There is nothing wrong with this in general and I feel no need to cry about not being able to go back and run the Aetherblade story again, or get the shineys from it. My friends hear about the LS and they’re intrigued. Once inside the game, they complain at the pace, but in general, they like the idea of “limited time” offerings so that they can say they have something unique to remember it by.
The LS is not “the reason people are leaving.” People are leaving because that’s the way MMOs cycle. There is an initial rush to buy/play/max the game, and then there’s a decrease after the “tirekickers” leave. After a while, people complain about the changes, and threaten to /ragequit and swear that the game is dying, ad nauseum. The truth is that as more people leave, more buy the game, and the population changes.
I, for one, am having a blast with everything going on. It would be ok with me if they slow down the LS a bit, but I would hate to think that if I don’t get something this year, it’s ok, because it would be back next year. Yes, I missed out on some things, but so what? I will get something else later that you may not get.
For the record, 50% of my friend list left in the first 3 months. The rest are still playing, and I have added more than I lost in those first months…so, no, I am not having the same issues you all are having.
TL;DR:
I’m still having fun, and my friends, for the most part, are still here with me. I don’t think the LS is “the reason” people are leaving. I think those who ARE leaving are the ones that have burned themselves out because they have to have literally everything the game offers, and they’re kittened that they can’t have the chance to get it if they missed it.
@ the OP:
I am sorry you don’t enjoy the game. Things that are boring for you may not be for other people. For instance: Some people like to grind. Others don’t. Some people like dungeons, some people don’t. Some people like to chew through all the content as fast as humanly possible, and others don’t, etc.
Personally, I am enjoying the game. I am not bored in the least.
In the words of Windu: Thanks for sharing…Goodbye…
Midnight Fire is actually listed as the darkest “black” you can get, but it does have a reddish tint on some armors.
As far as the others, there are over 400 dyes in this game. Many of them are ultra vibrant. I really don’t think we need another “tier” so to speak, but watch the BLT. They offer “new” dyes every so often that aren’t in the game yet or are limited availability items. Good luck in your hunt, but I think we have enough tiers to get…dyes shouldn’t be one of them.
All of the events have been great for me, with some better than others… Yes, it’s nice to have the seasonal events roll around once a year, BUT… I really LIKE the LS events. Even though some may be less fun to complete than others, I can hardly wait to see what’s “next.”
Of the ones we have had, though, I think I would have to say I liked the Wintersday events the best.
From Merriam Webster:
ca·su·al – adjective \?kazh-w?l, ?ka-zh?-w?l, ?ka-zh?l\
: happening by chance : not planned or expected
: designed for or permitting ordinary dress, behavior, etc. : not formal
: done without much thought, effort, or concern
hard core noun
: a small number of very active and enthusiastic members of a group : the most devoted and active members of a group
If we are to take the literal meanings (according to Merriam-Webster) then casual literally means that one is carefree and likes to breeze through things relatively easily. Hardcore (again, according to Merriam-Webster) Doesn’t necessarily mean that they like their content difficult, it simply means that they may be more dedicated and active than someone who is casual, and may have more time to BE dedicated and active.
Neither term should be derogatory, but over the years, the word “casual” has come to mean that one doesn’t really care about the game, and only plays once in a while to pass the time.
Being casual or hardcore isn’t GW2’s problem. I personally think that there’s content enough for both.
I firmly believe that the problem lies in a particular group of vocal people who are not happy that they can’t have what they want RIGHT NOW. They want their legendaries and ascendeds without having to wait for the relatively small time gate, and they’re using the “casuals can’t catch up” argument to try to get what they want. The thing is that it’s coming from hardcore players as well as casuals, so debating the meanings will only serve to bruise some egos.
Guild halls were great for what they were. They gave you a one-stop shopping, bank, and PvP skirmishing, and also allowed you to have a place to gather before embarking on a GvG mission or dungeon run.
Playing devil’s advocate for a moment here. IF the devs were to introduce guild halls in GW2, what would be the point? There is no GvG, and there is no 1v1. We already have places that have banks and TPs, and those who are really into it can take over an empty building and party til your heart’s content.
What I am afraid of is that they will implement Halls similar to what Aion did with player housing. They made almost all of the “good” furnishings and accouterments temporary, so you’d have to buy them every few weeks. In fact, a lot of their housing was “rented” instead of purchased, and if you didn’t pay your weekly rent, you lose your house. That is the LAST thing I want to see.
I am going to finish up a few achievements, hang with my friends, and generally enjoy the content. Regardless of what the naysayers and kitteners ramble on about, the game is fun. I likes it!
Yes, there were some nice armors in GW1, but come on…styles change in 250 years. I dare you to go out and spend a week in clothing made 250 years ago and not have people giggle at you.
All kidding aside, the armor skins in GW1 weren’t that spectacular. There were a couple of good ones (ritualist) and there were some horrid ones (remember all the naked and tattooed monks used by bot farmers?) but in general, they were not that great.
Admittedly, this is all my opinion, and I am sure that others have their own as well. I would rather see the devs spend their energies into designing new armor with decent skins than rehashes of old armor. I’d like to see more pants and robes, less trenchcoats and miniskirts. While they’re at it, I hope they design some heavy armor that doesn’t look like you’d stab yourself in the temple if you wave at someone.
Just my 2c worth.
I don’t feel the need to be recognized as Sherlock Holmes for finding some useless dragon teeth. I just want the achievement.
^This is the attitude that I find over and over again. “I don’t want to do the work, I just want the ’chievement…”
Kudos to Dulfy for going through all the effort to put it all together, but in general, if it were not for players who “just want the achievement” there would be a lot less sites like Dulfy, GW2Guru, etc.
/snip
The problem is that Karma is isn’t that easy to get any more and you still need about 80k of it to get all the Karma gear
/snip
Karma gear is 42K per piece, give or take. so, for full temple armor (regardless of which temple) it would be 252K karma.
In any case, if you decide to buy your armor, then go ahead and buy the stats you want. The looks aren’t important, as most of them are changeable using those transmutation crystals you see in the gem store.
Right now, I am wearing exotic armor, but I have the “look” of some green that I like.
Good luck to you!
I love the TQ encounter. It has been nothing short of FUN every time I participate. There are a few aspects of it that I do hate:
1. I hate the people who deliberately set out to make it fail. If any of you are reading this right now, I am reporting you when I see you Akitteng in a turret or on the laser. It falls under “Griefing” and it is against the EULA.
2. I hate that since the event started (patch day) I have yet to play on my own server. I don’t mind being on overflow, and they suit their purpose, but I would like to play on my home server. I am sure I will eventually.
3. The rewards are meh. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good to be able to say “Yay! We killed him!” but unless they tweak the rewards in a good way, people are going to go on to bigger, better, shinier things.
Othe than that, I think it’s about time we had something that you can’t steamroll. Let the complainers carry on, but don’t nerf the event.
Conversation in guild chat yesterday:
Quicks (who is an Asura): Yeah, I’ve been sick the last couple of days, so I haven’t been on…
Me: You know, Sai’s almost done with his pharmacy school, he’s like practically a doctor!
Sai: I don’t treat animals.Luckily Asura aren’t animals
They are the master race, if they are animals the other races would be Amoeba.charr took my juuub
The humans took our land.
Charr stole it from the Forgotten, your point?
Actually, Asurans are all related to Dobby the House Elf…I think they have a sock fetish as well.
Thanks for the great read!
I just noticed the other day that snowy owls in Frostgorge walk…and they’re darned funny…
I am a slow leveler. I took months to level my first 80, and only recently leveled my 2nd.
I started with Ele, because I was ele all the way in GW1. I love her… I really do…but I played her for so long that in truth, I’m bored with her. I will go back eventually.
My 2nd level 80 is my Necro… I love love love her condimancer build, and she actually has turned out kind of tanky.
I have a mid 40’s thief that I love to play, but since I am not very experienced with her, I tend to die a lot and get frustrated. I’ll get back to her and level her eventually, but I still like her.
I also have a 20 mesmer and a 20 ranger. I love mesmer, and will probably level her next. My ranger is kind of languishing because I am not sure whether I like her or just have her because I wanted to have one.
The other 3 slots are filled by a baby (just out of the starter area) guardian, a baby engi and a level 12 warrior. I’ll get to them eventually, but I haven’t played them enough to know whether I like them or not.
(edited by Ashabhi.1365)
I like Scarlet, and I like her shenanigans.
I would actually like it if the Twilight Assault has something that ties into her. Maybe not an appearance, but clues that she may have had something to do with it.
In the absence of more Elder Dragons, having a villain around gives us something to fight for (other than running around trying to catch up to the champ train.)
@Fungalfoot: I really don’t see TQ as a disaster. I think most of the players that complain were woefully unprepared for something like it, and as people learn the encounter, taking it down won’t be as difficult as it is now.
Don’t get me wrong, there are serious issues with it, but all in all, I have had a blast every time I have gone to try, and I didn’t give a kitten that we failed and got a pittance (or nothing at all.)
Sometimes it’s not about how fast you can blow through it. I remember days when we had epic raids, some of which lasted for days, not minutes (Yeah, I’m old…) TQ is nothing compared to some of them.
I never made it through clock tower 1…I think if they change it to make it more difficult, I will just zone in, screenie it, and sit there crying because face it…old ladies can’t jump…
Thing is, Ashabhi: The OP’s complaint is in response to ANet themselves stating that – while other MF-laden EQ would be swappable – Celestial would not. Ergo, the current situation is indeed not an error.
Ah, I missed that. mea culpa…
Time gated content has been around for a while. (Charged Crystals etc…) I find it strange that people are complaining about something that is meant to slow everyone down so that they don’t chew through the content in a week and cry for “moar stuffus” to do.
Look at it this way: If you could blow through everything and have all the BiS slot gear inside of a week, how long would you keep playing if there was nothing else to do?
I am not the greatest fan of time-gating, as there should be something else to do, but seriously…with everything else that is in need of a fix, this shouldn’t be the number one priority right now.
I don’t know that I would call myself a “tweener” but…
I am of an age where my fingers don’t work quite the way they used to, and I have trouble with certain encounters because of it. So, yes, I would say there are events that are (ahem) a challenge for me, and others that are a snoozefest.
But the truth of the matter is that I love the content that is suited to me, and I have no problem finding things to do.
Good luck to you.
Did anyone ever, throughout this whole thread, think to send a ticket “just in case” it was an actual error?
It seems that when something like this happens, the first thing we do is run to the forums to complain instead of contacting the people who can actually do something about it.
About commanders: In one of the TQ events I was in, I had the opportunity to run a turret. I had the basics, but getting the rotations correct was something I was looking forward to doing. In other words, I knew what I was supposed to do, but needed practice.
There was this commander who kept screaming (all caps) that I was an F’n n00b and that I should basically quit the game, sell my computer and take up knitting teacozies.
Now, I understand that I may not have been the best turretmaster, but trying to learn shouldn’t be something that a random player with enough money to get his “blue dorito” (as a previous poster called it) does with his perceived authority.
Before you say I was keeping everyone from winning, we were hopelessly behind from the get-go and there was no chance to win. We simply didn’t have the manpower or the organization in our particular overflow.
Now for the real question: If you’re trying to learn how to run one, and the only chance you get is during a TQ event, how are you supposed to learn if they boot you off it after (X) minutes? I don’t think giving an already egotistical megalomaniac commander the power to kick people is the way to go.
Anyone seen my knitting needles?
1. I don’t mind overflows as long as it mirrors the “real” server. If I head to an event in Frostgorge, then it should happen in the OF at the same time. I know they have a mechanic for that, but if I’m not fast enough to get on the regular server, it’s on me, not them. I did grumble when I was doing Scarlet’s Invasions when I landed in an overflow that wasn’t having the event.
2. I’ve been very lucky. I only get disconnects when my ISP is flakey or my power goes out. My heard goes out to those who are having this problem.
3. I agree. I don’t mind the insta kills, as I may have been doing something to deserve it, but if you can’t see the threat, then you can’t avoid it.
4. After re-reading this point, I see that you’re not complaining about the use of guides, but that in some cases they’re necessary in order to “progress.” I’m sorry, but I don’t feel the same need. I have been known to use them as a last resort, but I rather like the idea that I have to figure it out for myself.
5. Nobody is forcing you. If you don’t want to play, don’t do it. It may take longer to get your new shiney, but it’s not their fault you feel you have to get it NOW.
6. What are these achievements you speak of and why are they so important? They just don’t mean enough to me to have to attempt to get them.
7. I’m sorry… but I have to say… So what? is it that game breaking that you can’t have it all right now? sheesh… give it a rest.
Yes, your post was very well written, but I can’t seem to get past the overall opinion that you’re still just whining because you can’t have what you want when you want it. The couple of points you made that were good points have been made a dozen times or more. Whether ANet will do anything about them will be a case of wait-and-see…
I think the only truly dark (as in blackness) place I have been is the part of the jumping puzzle in LA that has intermittent light where you jump through the pools. It would be interesting to have a dark jungle or cave system to explore.
Actually, I think the contested waypoint is a good thing. I wouldn’t mind it being gone altogether. I think it encourages people to actually rez other people when necessary. I can’t tell you how many times I have been told “WP and run” when I’ve done other events. This one had folks rezzing you before you could even ask.
See, now I know I was right to take your OP with a grain of salt. You didn’t have the experience most of us had. Maybe on your server people knew how to dodge, heal, or avoid red circles. But every overflow I got on half the zerg was down or dead. The last one I was on MOST of the people were dead and refusing to WP.
Keep in mind there is a difference between DOWNED and DEAD. These people were all DEAD.
You can’t do this event with virtually everyone ressing dead people.
And you can’t complete this event when the majority of the zerg your in couldn’t dodge a balloon.
I may not have had the experience that “most” (according to you) had. Nor did I say that virtually everyone was rezzing dead people. Read it again. All I said is that in the event that I participated in, there were people rezzing.
In other events, I see where is it faster and easier to WP and run back, and I agree that it is better to do so in those events. With this event, there were so many people, that some took it upon their selves to heal downed players and to rez dead ones. In this experience, there were maybe 5 or 6 dead players, and maybe another 6 or 7 downed at any given time.
With 2 or 3 people healing one player, it took all of 10 seconds, where running from the nearest available WP would have taken another 2 or 3 minutes, by the time you avoided all the CCs of the regular mobs along the way. If everyone had thought that running back from a WP was better, we would have had many more little blue icons, because nobody would have been in the fight. Everyone would have been busy coming back from the WP on the other side of the spider tunnels.
Whether you (personally) believe that WP and running is best, I thought it was great that in this particular event, at this particular time, people were using their rez skills along with everything else. The lack of a close, available WP didn’t matter.
TL;DR:
If there’s an available WP and it’s more efficient, then warping and running would be better, but, if there’s not, then rezzing is the way to go. Surely, one can see the efficiency difference.
My beef is more over things that are minor, and with some tweaking would turn what’s nearly impossible into something that’s enjoyable.
(Note, I’ve no problem with any boss other than Teq – I think the dev’s did a fabulous job with the rest of them.)
-Teq’s timer should be longer – nearly double, I’d say, based on what my server has been able to put out.
-The AoE in the water (poison) needs to be more clearly visible – the red circles are nearly invisible when they’re in the water. Surprise insta-death areas are no fun. Give me an actual chance to dodge them, and I’m game.
-The blue wave – it’s damage/knockback doesn’t match it’s animation – makes it impossible to jump over, and even dodging is questionable. Get that synced up right, so that the damage/knockback matches the leading edge of it.
-The closest WP needs to be uncontested. Losing a minute just running back, out of a 15 minute fight – that’s just bad design.
-Adjust the loot to reflect the fact that the difficulty is that of playing dark souls with one hand, while soloing arah with the other. It’s an insanely hard fight – it should have an insane reward. A token for making a soulbound dragonbone weapon, maybe? (One token, one weapon, make the token account bound, the weapon soulbound on aquire.)
With those tweaks, I’d say Teq could be the most epic fun thing in the game.
1. Timer: Maybe a bit longer, but nobody knows how to run the event in the first day or so. Give it a week, and people will be having much less trouble. If they increase the timer at all, maybe to 20 minutes, would be more than enough once we all get “good” at it.
2. Water poison issues are valid. It’s hard to counter if you can’t see it coming. Listening to the NPC chatter helps.
3.The wave does need a bit of tweaking. I was lucky with it, but others were not so much.
4.No…don’t “uncontest” the waypoint. All it would do is give people the opportunity to say “WP and run is faster than rez.” Rezzing is part of it of a coordinated team. I, for one, wouldn’t want that change.
5. They give loot? I’ll have to check my bags, because I didn’t care. It was a blast even though we failed…this time…
You know, I can see where it could be enjoyable, with some minor changes. The closest WP shouldn’t be contested – a 1 minute run during a 15 minute fight is a ball breaker. Matter of fact, 15 minutes is kind of short, and really the biggest difficulty to it – stretch it to 20 or 30 minutes.
If they fix the bug with the blue wave of death (the actual death/knockback isn’t synced with the blue wave), and did the above two, it’d be an entirely enjoyable experience. As it is, it’s far, far too much work for the lack of reward offered.
I know, because I think I died 3 or 4 times during the event. (kittened squishiness.)
I do agree that the timer could be a wee bit longer… on the 20 minute mark would be ok, but if it goes too long, it’s just another case of beating it by outlasting it rather than a coordinated attack. I think as we get used to the event, the 15 minute timer won’t be an issue. I don’t want it to be a case of waiting out the timer.
How was your lag?
My computer could probably handle it all pretty well, but Id imagine the average joe would have issues with 100 people.
For info’s sake, I have an Asus off-the-shelf desktop from Best Buy from a few years ago. I have 9GB RAM, 1TB HD, and 2GB dedicated video RAM. Quad processors @ 2.5gHz… In other words, nothing really special. I am still running Vista (embarrassed.)
I had very little lag at all. The only time I noticed it was when everyone first rushed TQ and were all grouped in the same spot. Once we spread out a bit, it disappeared. I was surprised, actually. Thanks for asking!
(edited by Ashabhi.1365)
I don’t know which server all the complainers are on, but I did the TQ event last night on mine. Funny thing is, that nobody was complaining. I think there was around 100 people there, give or take.
The main force was hitting TQ itself, but the rest of us were running around doing all the support things necessary. There was a group holding off the adds, another repairing the turrets, yet another running champs, still another rezzing people so they didn’t have to run back from kitten knows where. The commanders who were there were shouting instructions (good ones, too,) as opposed to yelling insults, and turning on NPC chat let us know what TQ was going to do next.We had a blast.
And…we failed.
When it was over, I hung out for a bit and watched map chat to see what the overall impression was. Most of the chatter was talking about “next time we’ll try _______” or “Did you see that _________ that spawned?” Nobody was complaining much about anything. There was more of a sense of “wow…we survived” than anything else, and only after zoning back to LA did I stop to see what loot, if any I got.
For a long time, I avoided Bossfights because they were a joke. It usually took all of 30 seconds to a minute for the target to go down, and many times, even targeting the boss was impossible because of all the people. Tagging for enough damage to get rewards made it so that I usually got a pittance anyways, and the overall feeling after the fact was more of a WTF feeling than a “Yay, we won!” thing.
The level of coordination needed to bring TQ down is a feat that may be extremely difficult right now, but in the coming days and months, I do hope ANet doesn’t change the need for a cohesive effort. Simply spamming 531111111111511111114111111 for a few moments isn’t fun. This was fun, even if all I got was a drop of karma and a box.
Thanks, ANet…this is the most fun I have had in quite a while.
Welcome back!
My only advice would be to not read the forums…
;)
So, is it fixed now?
I think we’d come up with “serious” ideas if it weren’t so dependent upon RNG and grinding to get.
I have a life… I am not going to spend 12 hours a day trying to collect enough mats to get myself a piece of gear that so far hasn’t shown itself to be that much of an improvement (no matter what the number crunchers say.)
If Ascended gear was given for completing some epic task, or a chain of tasks, then I might be inclined to agree with the OP, but until it is, my choice for title would be “More Time Than Sense.”
What’s the RNG for ascended gear? Whether you get more or less of an ascended material from a chest?
There are people who got ascended weapons in less than a week after they were released…and those people farmed. I’m pretty sure if you make it a more casual goal you can easily have an ascended weapon in a month.
What RNG are you talking about?
The RNG I am talking about is the “chance” to get some of the mats you need from refining other mats, which take time and RNG to get such as ectos from dropped gear, etc. As you said, farming is the way to go. I am also talking about the “Chance” of getting an ascended piece of gear from a chest, as my friend did the other night (lucky kitten.)
I am not trying to bash farmers, or those who play a lot. I apologize if it came across that way. I am simply stating that to ME it’s not worth it. If, down the road, ascended gear turns out to be truly a step or two above what I already have, then I may rethink things and put a bit more effort into getting what I need.
I could forego halls and GvG if they would add a basic toolset for Guild Leaders that included this short list:
1. Last Time online
2. bulk email for guild leaders only to email their members with important info that may not fit in the MoTD
3. Separate the ability to invite new members from the ability to boot members
4. The ability to sort members in the list according to preset preferences such as last online or joined date
5. a “call to arms” button that would pop a chat to everyone, whether representing or not to help with calling everyone for an event.
Why is everyone complaining? Both people who still play Rangers can’t be everywhere at the same time…
seriously, tho, I have a thief, and I am not too worried about it. While I don’t like the idea of a “hard counter” to anyone’s abilities, I think that it won’t be used as often as people think it will.
Most thieves I have come across in WvW are already stealthed, and I rarely see them until I am downed and watching them “finish” me. I think one would have to see the thief before casting. Not to mention, their focus is going to be on the zerg coming at them instead of a lone thief behind them.
I am going to wait and see what it actually does to us before I complain and carry on like it is the only build I know how to use.
I agree, we need someplace that can be considered as a “Guild Hall,”
Having said that, I’m with Happyfool. This needs to be in the Suggestion Forum.
oh…wait… it already is…numerous times….
The Champion Ogatl Priestess in Brisbane was a challenge.
5 of us took her on and she still wiped us time after time until we learned her tells. It’s still not a guaranteed victory, either.
Again, for those who didn’t read it, the problem lies not in the players. The problem lies in the fact that the effort expended in running a champ train in Q’Dale is much less than any other champ train. It’s simple math. When you can kill a champ with a group in 30 seconds with the chance at high-level gear, why would you want to go to a zone where it takes 10 minutes to kill one with the same (relative) rewards.
Add to that the propensity of people to start grief wars, and you have the situation as it stands in Queensdale.
Personally, I stay away from Queensdale unless I am running hearts on a new alt or the occasional SB beatdown. But, again, that’s MY choice.
sorry, wrong wording. I meant: why are there no events in big cities, like there are in Ebonhawke? DR, BC, Grove,… all silent.
Ah, yeah probably simply for the ‘safety’ feeling, presented previously.
My question (finally came up with one haha)
Why aren’t there more non-skirt options among the armor sets? There seem to be a lot of skirts/trenchcoats across all 3 armor tiers, but few simple “pant” outfits.
Thank you for your question.
Skirts are relatively easy to code. Pants, on the other hand are roughly twice to code to make sure there aren’t clipping issues and that your dye looks the way you wish. We have enough clipping issues with tails, and pants would complicate matters further. On the other hand, there are some of the lower-level skins that have more pants-like options. Someday, we may implement more pants skins, but as of right now, there are other concerns with armor that we are dealing with.
Q: Why can’t we see when our guild members logged in last?
We know there’s more to the world than Kryta, Maguuma and Ascalon. We have yet to see the Crystal Desert, Ring of Fire, the cities of Cantha(yeah, I said the “C” word), the Jade Sea or the Underworld. Most of our existing GW2 world is pretty, mid-European decor. Even the jungles don’t really look like jungles.
In my dream design, there would be a whole new set of leveling zones based around a theme. I’d love the option of starting a new character somewhere else.
/snip
I only champ farmed in Queensdale on my alts for some lazy exp.
Therein lies the problem… Scaling doesn’t work as intended. The true reason people are farming Q’dale is because the rewards far outweigh the effort that’s put into them.
Nobody will move on until they perceive that the rewards match the encounter.
Unfortunately, a lot of these farmers think that they’re entitled to run the zone as they see fit, and screw the new player, as they’re not important as long as the vet gets their reward.
@ the new players: Play the game. Ignore the idiots. If they give you kitten, report them.
I have to disagree with the OP. Keep in mind that this is my opinion only, and I do not speak for anyone else.
Having a class trainer provides a couple of things, neither of which the OP may care about. I happen to be one who does.
1. Gold sink – As the above posters have said, every little bit helps. I rarely buy anything from NPC vendors, and I rarely spend my money on mats that can only be bought from NPCs. I do change my traits often, and paying the 3s to do so isn’t game breaking for me.
2. Changing traits on the fly isn’t viable until we get the ability to have more than one set of specs, a la GW1. The reason I say that is for me, changing my traits takes a bit of time. Having to go to the trainer to do so gives me a safe place to stop for a while and think before I trait. Changing them out in the world and in a hurry would make me crazy.
IF the devs ever give us the option of having more than one gear slot to be able to switch armor and traits on the fly, then I could see doing away with the trainers and maybe just charging us a small fee upon gear switch. Until then, tho, I’ll go to the trainer.
Thanks for the preview!
Any word on Guild Tools?
I wish he it would be on a random timer. There is absolutely NO challenge to look at the clock and say “Oh, Gee…Tequatl is about to rise again, I have to go try to kill him…”
Much more fun to be doing your thing out in the world (or WvW) and get pinged and have to race back to Sparkfly in order to participate. It would give everyone the same chance of being on the main server when it pops rather than being in overflow before the event starts.
As for the actual topic, everyone I know just calls her Teq.
It is a girl? I thought it is a boy.
“It has reinforcements. Slay them!”
“It’s dropping something from its wings. Look out!”
“Get back. It’s about to breathe. Stay out of its way!”Based on the NPC chatter, it appears it’s an it.
You mean TQ’s been neutered?!?!?!?!?!?
Seriously, tho… I pronounce it Tech Wattle unless I’m in a hurry, then it’s simply TQ.
There are two types of forum complainers.
Those who raise valid points that need to be addressed, and those who can’t think of anything better to say than “This game kittens! It’s freaking horrible! Give me (X) or I quit!”
@OP: I agree. This game is the best thing I have played in years. Yes, it has its problems, and yes, there are aspects that are not my favorite thing to do, but in general, I love it.
If someone feels the need to complain about something (as I have concerning Guild Menu Tools) then there are ways to air them without resorting to childish ranting about how mistreated he or she is.
Thank you, OP…Thank you for making one of your posts about the good in the game.
