I played around with all the new specs, but in general, I didn’t see the big improvement over existing classes on any of them.

Except the Weaver.

I cannot tell you how many times in the current game that I wanted to fire off two or three of my skills and change to another element for one skill and then back, only to be thwarted by cooldowns. Now I have the option to “weave” both and yet add a third or fourth with less than half the elemental (no pun intended) cooldown. Usually by the time I fire off the skill, the cooldown is done and I can change yet again. It offers me the flexibility I have sorely missed with Core Elemental or Tempest. I can’t wait to see Weaver in a day-to-day situation.

It may end up being a novelty build, but in the testing, I fell in love with my Ele again.

New too ranger, few questions

in Ranger

Posted by: Ashabhi.1365

Ashabhi.1365

I have a ranger, although it is not my main character. I am by no means a Ranger expert.

Having said that, I must say, that Ranger has one aspect that I didn’t realize could be such a great feature. It is a class that people underestimate constantly, especially in PvP/WvW. I have been in positions that I should have been absolutely murdered, but beacause people didn’t think I could cause them much damage, I not only survived (they ignored me) I made sure a few people never underestimated me again.

Right now I am using a LB for group play, and I switch between S/P and GS depending on the situation in solo play. I may not be doing it right, but I am having fun not doing it right.

As in GW1, the expacs are independent of each other, so you should have no problems gaining enough points to specialize in the new elites. Since they cannot combine elites, you won’t have to ever worry about coming across a hybrid.

I must balance that with a few caveats, however. You will not have access to some of the masteries that are available in HoT such as gliding and wallows usage. I really don’t think that you will miss what you never had, but you will be at a disadvantage for some content. It will still be doable, but in my opinion, you will most likely become frustrated when your friends/guildies/party members glide off and leave you at the top of the mountain or dive into a small hole that moves them across the zone while you have to walk (or ride.)

I know you don’t want to buy HoT, but unless they offer another way to gain gliding and wallows usage, you’ll have a harder time.

Best way to solo HoT?

in Elementalist

Ashabhi.1365

For what it’s worth, I ran a staff ele in full exotic zerker gear until I earned the hero points.

In VB, and the next few zones of HoT (follow the story to unlock them), you can cap hero points at 10 per. There is usually a train running as long as there isn’t a meta event going on, so it didn’t take me long to max out Tempest.

I still play staff Temp in exotic zerker gear and I have to say, I solo pretty much everything. The two exceptions are Mordrem Snipers and those shadow hopper frog things. I finally learned how to deal with snipers, but those frogs are the bane of my existence.

I am finally getting around to making my first set of Ascended armor, so I can say with some degree of accuracy that a zerker staff ele in exotic gear can solo the content. Trait for Tempest, Fire and Air, following a fractal build for simple staff DPS I got from Metabattle and then altered to suit my play style.

Good luck to you!

I am assuming that because of the timing, most of the players will not be NA players, and many of them will be first time “demo” players…

My question (request): can we please turn off the beginning intro and just buy a raptor in town when we get there? That solo trip through the fires of hell (no pun intended) can take most of our time in Elona. I can see requiring it for first-time run-throughs, but for those of us who have been through it repeatedly want to claw out our own eyes rather than see it again… at least I know I want to…

I know this isn’t a preview, but it would be nice to spend our time actually inside Elona instead of in an instance.

Thanks for reading…

Corgi Mount Vote?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashabhi.1365

Ashabhi.1365

Here’s the thing….

Rabbits, hounds, raptors, and manta ray-looking things are already in the game. It’s a natural progression to tame, train, and ride them as mounts. (waiting for the Whale so the whole guild can ride.)

The rabbit, on paper, doesn’t look like a Pikatchu-looking cartoon rabbit, but a large version of one of those jerboa-like things from GW1. Not for me, but I can see it’s inclusion.

To my knowledge, while there are Great Dane and Wolf-looking canines in-game, I have yet to see a Corgi of either Corgi breed (with or without tail.)

I am not against Corgis in general, but I don’t think there’s a place for them here.

Disclaimer: I hate the sparkly, unicorn-and-rainbow cartoon stuff that developers seem to think they must add to a game to keep their population happy. It doesn’t matter the game or developers.

For what it’s worth, my biggest issue with Charr is that armor doesn’t always allow for a tail. It clips horribly with some skins…just sayin…

Other than that, Humans tend to have better customization options such as skin tone and hairstyle. So, if you choose human, you can make it look like a true Elonan if that is your preference, and roleplay as a Zulu Shaman if you so choose. (I am not an RPer, so can’t relate.)

As far as catching up, you can gain Bladed armor relatively quickly which will hold you over until you can grab some ascended. Just grind airship parts in VB and do the meta. When you finally get the chest for the meta, take the chest piece, and buy the rest from the vendor. As for weapons, any exotic will do you until such time as you can craft/grind/pray for a better one.

This is all assuming that you have an 80 boost.

If you don’t, then just play the game. Leveling is relatively quick, and by the time you get to 80, you’ll have the gear you need. Besides, if you already have an 80, keep the stuff that you can use on your new character.

Good luck to you!

It was fun! Glad I had a chance to play with the new specs some more.

Observations:
1. The Raptor turns very slowly… more than when we first saw them.
2. (ok, this is a beg…) Once you’ve gone through the intro instance once, could we PLEASE not have to go through it again with the subsequent characters???? Pweeeeeze?
3. When do we get to test the other mounts? I am sooooo looking forward to the skimmer….

I was going for the Dive Master and took like 6 months to actually make it to the top of the No Secret Jumping Puzzle without the aid of a portaling mesmer. [Suggestions] Quality of Life Changes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashabhi.1365

Ashabhi.1365

One of the things I used to love in GW1 was the ability to change second professions in-game for a small fee.

So, my suggestion for a QoL is a profession change ticket. Sometimes, playing one class, such as Guardian for 5 years is too much. We love our character, but maybe we just want to cast a few fireballs for a change. We don’t want to spend (whatever) time or money to create and level another character, and we may not have the money for an instant 80 ticket. So, for around 100 gold (transmuted to gems) you could grab a profession change ticket and make your warrior into a mesmer for a while, but still have it affordable enough that we could go back to being a guardian for a while. You would only get to use the elite specializations if you already have them unlocked, so a Tempest could become a Dragonhunter, but a mere Elementalist couldn’t.

Just a thought.

The Mounts are Useless

Ashabhi.1365

Reasons mounts are/are not useless:
blahblahblahblahblah…

Don’t get me wrong I am not trolling you. There has literally been so much said both for and against mounts since the dawn of GW1 that it has all run together into some unrecognizable blob.

With the little bit of experience I had over the weekend with them, I discovered that other than moving slightly faster than a dead run, they’re kind of fun. They won’t replace waypoints, nor will they take the place of other ways of travel, but they give yet another option. They’re dyeable, and the race was a blast. A few of my friends and I spent a good couple of hours just racing.

Regardless of whether a player wants to see mounts or not, they are here now. They might indeed be useless, but they give those who were clamoring for them what they wanted.

Cheers!

I spent the weekend mostly playing with the mounts and imagining what kind of effect they are going to have on the game. A couple of questions I have about them are: 1. Are they going to be usable everywhere? and 2. Are they going to be “normalized” or are different mounts going to be different speeds and/or abilities?

Other than my concerns with the mount system, I echo what others have said. The rendering is beautiful, and the mobs are a bit too easy after the difficulty of HoT mobs.

Overall, I enjoyed the preview for what it was. I am more interested in the new specializations and how those will affect diversity as it applies to fighting styles in PvP, WvW, and if they will be carried over into PvE.

Worst Guild Wars 2 Map?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashabhi.1365

Ashabhi.1365

As I read all the responses, I noticed that a lot of people don’t like the “new” maps in general, which I find interesting. To me, they’re some of the best maps, as they challenge me to think “outside the box” so to speak to get around and adjust for the maze-like quality of some of the maps. They are beautifully rendered, and I love that I cannot simply roll my face across my keyboard to mow through the baddies, although I do like Lake Doric less than the rest.

So, with that in mind, here’s my list, in no particular order since I dislike them equally:

1. Cursed Shore: I firmly believe the inspiration for this zone was someone’s aquarium that got left out in the garage for far too long before they gave it a good scrubbing. I can almost “smell” the place. I understand the lore of Orr being pushed up into the air from the sea floor, but still, it’s way too over the top with the huge corals.
2. Southsun Cove: Nothing going on here except the occasional Crab Toss activity for the daily.
3. Black Citadel/Plains of Ashford: I put these two together, because they kind of go together like they should have been one zone… Both offend my sense of WTF. Here we have a beautiful countryside, being horribly polluted by whatever it is that the Charr are pumping out of the Citadel, but there is literally no sign of the pollution, except for the one heart at the end of the outflow pipe. The incongruity is jarring to me. You can’t have beautiful unspoiled countryside with that much crud. I know it’s a game and all that, but it bothers me that there’s not more indicators of the pollutants. it’s like PoA is too clean…
4. Hirathi Hinterlands: Centaurs, Centaurs, Centaurs… ‘nuff said.
5. Mount Maelstrom: If it weren’t for the necessary heart completion, I wouldn’t ever go there. Way too many “invisible walls” that make it so you can’t just go over some minor hills to get from point A to point B. I just don’t like it.

So, for what it’s worth, there they are, along with my reasons for disliking them.

Could we get a "Rebirth" option?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashabhi.1365

Ashabhi.1365

I’m on the “use them as mules” bandwagon.

I left for a few years myself, and when I came back, I had a few 80’s, but I also had a few mid 40’s that I really didn’t want to play in their current iteration. Like you, I didn’t want to lose their birthdate either, so I let them languish…

Along comes a bunch of full iinventory slots, and using them for mules becomes a real benefit. Especially with all the new crowbars/lockpicks/whatevers that don’t stack in your wallet like currency.

I do understand the desire for a “reset ticket” but if you’re going to spend (X) number of gems for a reset, I think gaining a new character slot would be much more useful, considering the charge for a slot would be almost guaranteed to be less than a reset ticket.

Official Episode 5 Feedback Thread

I’m going to echo what others have said: The map is great! I spent the first few hours just wandering around.

As for the story, It was a bit short, and “big reveal” notwithstanding, left a lot to be desired. Below are my issues with it:

1. I soloed the whole thing and died maybe once or twice. I am in full exotics, with ascended necklace and that’s it. At this level of the LS, I should have had a lot more trouble as a solo player.

2. It took me a while to catch up to this episode, but I am pretty sure I forgot to do something, because it sure seemed like it was short. It took me all of a couple hours to finish it, when it should have kept me busy for a day or two at least.

3. It was anticlimactic. It really didn’t matter who Laz really was, the whole end-game battle between him and us was lackluster and unsatisfying.

So, there you have it, my opinion. I certainly hope that the remainder of this season is better than this episode.

How is GW2 doing?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashabhi.1365

Ashabhi.1365

I quit the game a few years back…I didnt really like the living story stuff.

How is it now?

I am a returning player myself. I was gone for almost 2 years, so I missed a lot. Since being back, here is my take on what I have discovered.

I was never a Living Story person. Having said that, I like season 3 so far. It is more like the personal story from way back when than the staged event system that the whole Scarlett debacle was. I am enjoying it immensely, and I am looking forward to the next episode.

WvW has changed in that the new elite classes and specs make it difficult for old-school eles like me to get back in the swing of things, but I am learning.

I never got into sPvP, so I can’t comment.

The new zones are pleasantly difficult. I like the fact that I can’t take a nap on my keyboard and still complete the meta.

Eventually, I hope to get into raiding, but until I get farther along with my character and learn the things that others already have down pat, I’ll putter along with what I am doing.

The only thing that I really dislike is the grind involved for the masteries. I am bored with the same events over and over for the experience necessary to make it to the next mastery level. Not only for HoT, but now for Tyria core as well. Not that I mind working for them, but it just doesn’t seem to go as smoothly as leveling my character did.

Hope that helps. Keep in mind that its only my opinion, and YMMV.

Just some advice on leveling masteries. Use buffs. Don’t just depend on dynamic events. Killing stuff with high bonus XP will level your masteries faster than doing events will, and it’s far easier to find that stuff. Using food, utility, guild buff, birthday booster, celebration booster, XP boosters will get your masteries leveled very quickly. Far more quickly than you’d think possible, I’d guess.

Thanks for the advice. I do buff a lot, but it still seems rather repetitive. Maybe I’m doing it wrong >:}

Suggestions for GW2 from my BDO experience.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashabhi.1365

Ashabhi.1365

The biggest truth of BDO, or Archeage, WoW, or (insert MMO here) is that there is nothing truly new under the MMO sun. The “newness” is presented in the method that the tenets of MMOs are put together.

All MMOs take ideas from other MMOs and put them together in a way that is bigger/badder/better than their predecessors and then hope that it comes together in a way that entices the masses to purchase and play their game.

Once you’ve found a game that suits your playstyle, it is absolutely normal to think "Gee, I wish (this game) had (feature of another game.) Unfortunately, most of the time, it’s a personal preference, and that (feature from another game) that you love may be something that others hate.

In other words, if you want a feature (or features) from BDO, your best bet is to play BDO. The folks at GW2 aren’t going to import BDO’s “stuff.”

“Necromancer:
Minion skills now require corpses. Flesh Golem requires multiple corpses to cast.”
Also seems like a interesting elite idea for necro. You can resurrect a killed mob to fight by your side (not sure how it would work against players though). Maybe you could even go a step further and replace shroud with something like “corpse shell” that makes you basically invincible as long as you have active corpses and place corpse-related skills to F1-F4.

/endsnip

This was actually a thing in GW1… in order to be an effective minion master, you had to have corpses to create minions. Flesh golems only took one corpse, though.

A worthwhile class to invest in and main?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Ashabhi.1365

Ashabhi.1365

A couple pieces of advice from a relatively normal (not uber, not terribad) player who has tried a lot of different characters in a lot of iterations:

Mesmer and Engineer both require a LOT of attention. They are not ones you can run out in the world and melt things without a lot of input by the player. In the early levels, they’re ok, but as you get proficient, they become a lot more involved to play well. If you’re unable to proficiently play them, they will rot on a shelf. I am speaking from personal experience here.

On the other hand, none of the classes are faceroll easy, either. I have found that for my play style, elementalist and thief, with a salting of guardian and ranger work well for me. I do have a necro, but I mostly use her for specific dailies that appeal to her abilities and that’s it.

Caveat: I know almost nothing about warrior, so I cannot give any advice concerning that class.

So, my recommendations to you are two-fold.

First, make one of everything you can and play with them up until about level 30 before you pick which one you like the best. You can use dropped/vendor armor and weapons efficiently enough to level your character, and not have to invest a huge load of time or money into them.

Secondly, once you do pick “your” class, remember that there will be periods where you hate it. certain levels go slowly, and certain activities or zones will suck for you. Don’t give up on your character. Make another one to take a break if you like, but don’t delete your eventual main just because you hate a certain part of the game. It will get better.

Good luck to you!

I actually did the same… returned after being gone a couple of years. I played around with my legacy character (made at headstart) and I found that within a few days, I was almost as proficient as I was when I left. It didn’t take long to remember what I was doing at all.

Once I bought HoT, I dove into the new content with both feet and now I am cooking along pretty well.

If you make a new character, the story goes pretty fast. I recommend you make one exactly like your level 80 “main” and learn it. Once you’re comfortable, go back to your level 80 character and play on.

Good luck to you!

I do hope they’ll not let one year’s miscalculations prevent them from pranking us again. It’s not their fault that months of planning and programming was undone in one tragic event.

Ideas (even though it’s most likely too late to act on them):
1. Everyone has to wear pastel pink and yellow ruffly dresses
2. All weapons are turned into bananas and cause random tripping
3. All players are turned into minions from Despicable Me (yeah, I know, copyright infringement and all that.)

Just a captain obvious moment, but you CAN store your passwords… just not on a computer. Keepass and Lastpass sound good, but pen and paper are still the safest way to remember passwords.

Write them down in a notebook and keep them in a drawer away from your computer.

Also, taking a word and spelling it in “leetspeak” is not necessarily a good tactic. “PASSWORD” and “P455W0RD” are easily guessed. Better to pick random words and string them together such as “PickleUmbrellaFortyMango123???” is very much harder to guess.

I do have an observation about the gold laundering issue.

I noticed a low-level blue staff for sale today for 7K gold while looking at prices for precursers. I would not have had to buy (insert number) of things at a lower price in order to buy that item, so if I were a gold launderer, all I would have to do is email my client once I had the payment and tell him to list something for exhorbitant amounts so I could “buy” it and not raise a flag.

Just sayin….

What blue staff was that? Can you post a link?

Edit: Was it this one? https://www.gw2tp.com/item/37629-staff

I don’t remember exactly, it might have been, or it may have been another. I just remember thinking it was odd that a plain low-level blue staff was for sale at that price point.

Did GW2 lose its identity?

  • Gliding
  • The same max gear it’s had since the first year.
  • Cooperative in all forms of PvE.
  • No subscription and an F2P option that is very close to the game itself.
  • Nearly everything can be PUGged.
  • It’s fun for a ton of people.

I have been gone for a few years. I thought I would find what I was looking for elsewhere. I was wrong.

The reasons listed above are exactly the reasons I came back. They stand out in a world where literally every other MMO I played relied on numbers and how much one could screw their fellow player.

Don’t get me wrong, there are elitists and evil kittens in every game. This game is no different, but the number of them is hugely reduced from other games.

GW2 hasn’t lost its identity. Like all games, it has made a few changes that some will like and some will not. The solution is simple. If you don’t like a particular aspect of the game, then don’t participate. It sounds cliche and trite, but it’s absolutely true.

To Those Who Have Quit This Game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashabhi.1365

Ashabhi.1365

I have not completely quit the game. I have moved away, but I am keeping an eye on it, and I will probably play from time to time.

The game has good and bad. Unfortunately, for me, the bad (personal opinions, mind you,) has slowly begun to outweigh the good.

The good:

1. Beautiful Graphics
2. No competition for nodes and resources, and everyone gets credit for mobs.
3. Dungeons are optional
4. Uber Gear is optional (unless you’re doing fractals and certain elite (notice I didn’t say “elitist”) content
5. No forced PvP unless you want (insert benefit here)
6. Downleveling

The Bad:
1. Changes to traits and skills – They may not be bad, generally, but I don’t personally like them.
2. When there’s no LS, there’s not a lot to do once you’re done leveling to 80 unless you like dungeons or ride the boss trains
3. Sameness – Everyone looks like everyone else
4. Risk vs. Reward – It’s not like I want bags of gold for doing menial tasks, but when you receive 6s for an epic battle when things you need are 100’s of gold, it’s demoralizing.
5. Once you’ve seen the map, you’ve seen the map.
6. Alternate leveling sucks. Do the same hearts and PS quests over and over again, but forget about leveling through any other activity unless a) you don’t mind spending months to get to 80 or b) you’re rich and can buy all the mats to craft your way through (insert number of levels here.)
7. Zerg vs. Zerg – no concerted effort to employ tactics. SImply grab 100 of your closest friends and go DPS the hell out of your objective and the rest be kittened. Which brings me to:
8. No place for pure support builds. I can buff, debuff, protect the DPSers, whatever, but if I can’t DPS enough, I’m not going to get diddly when it’s over.
9. Megaserver – This was almost the last straw. I can’t even play with my friends without jockying for space on the server. It was so much better (for me) without it.

The game started out brilliantly, but over the past couple years (including betas) it has evolved into a game I no longer “love.” I still like a lot about it, but I find that as time goes by, there’s less and less of the things I like.

TL;DR:
I like the game. I just don’t love it any more. If they move back toward the way it used to be at the beginning, I will play more.

Correct. “A 10-15% increase in damage is not irrelevant…”

but I will qualify that statement with “…depending on what you’re killing”

If you’re talking about a 1v1 encounter, that advantage will slaughter whatever it is that you’re attacking, whether it be an NPC mob or another player.

However, if you’re talking about a zerg (and face it, the boss encounters in the game are zergfests as is a lot of WvW) you’re not going to even notice the extra punch.

In fact, someone who has “regular” exotics gains the exact same result as someone who is in full ascended with all the bells and whistles.

I am not saying that they will do more damage, but that no matter how much damage one does, the result is the same. Therefore, in those circumstances, the 10-15% advantage is irrelevant.

Gw2 most grindy game ever..?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ashabhi.1365

I have played “grindy games.” GW2 is not.

There is a reason they used to call a lot of MMOs “Korean Grinders.” They came from Korea (mostly) and they made you grind for everything.

The only thing you grind for in GW2 is aesthetics. The only exception is Ascended Gear, which in my opinion is optional except for specialized situations.

So, do what you like, and if going for Twilight is what you want, be prepared to grind for it.

Cheers!

I have never made it secret that I rather like the megaserver.

Having said that, I agree with Aidan that there are some serious issues with the calculations for server placement that need to be addressed.

Ashabhi.1365

I have played every class at least through level 30. I have 3 level 80’s, a couple in the mid 50’s, and the rest in various stages of lower levels. Some I have loved, and some I had the overwhelming feeling of “meh.”

From a personal standpoint, I find Warrior to be the easiest, followed by Ele, Necro, and finally Mesmer. I didn’t like Guardian much, so I don’t play it often, and I hated Engineer.

I like the thief playstyle, but I am not very good at it, and I don’t understand some of the mechanics, but I will learn eventually. It is fun, just very glassy when it comes to taking damage.

As far as Engineer, yes, I hated it, but it was purely a personal hate, and not a hate because the class sucks. It just wasn’t something I enjoyed.

As far as loving the class, though, I would have to say I love the Necro. I just wish it were more in line with the other professions as far as damage output. Having said that, the particular brand of condimancer I run is extremely resilient, and is great for solo PvE, especially in Orr, with multiple mobs aggroing from all over. My Necro has enough health that it tanks them quite nicely until I DoT them to death. It’s not fast, nor does it have any burst damage, but there is something almost awe inspiring about taking down more than 3 or 4 mobs at a time.

Cheers!

Clash of cultures, verbal abuse in megaserver

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashabhi.1365

Ashabhi.1365

It’s truly sad.

Back in my GW1 days (yes, I went there) they didn’t have “worlds” but districts that all cultures could hop between regardless of location. There were people from all walks of life, and all nationalities in almost all the districts. When a district filled up, a new district would form. I saw days with only 2 or 3 districts, and others with 15 or 16. It may be slightly rose tinted, but my memories are of decent people. Yes, there was always “that guy” who would stir things up, but in general, people were more tolerant.

Having a megaserver isn’t the problem. By GW1 standards, a megaserver is simply an unnamed district. When it’s full, another opens up. It would be nice if we had an option of hopping between them, but since we can’t, we have to learn to handle all the new people.

The toxicity of the player base has nothing to do with the megaserver. It has to do with entitlement some seem to feel and the anonymity of the internet. People who would never dream of speaking that way to a person face to face are more likely to say or do anything here.

Unfortunately, all we can do is report the abusers and wait for Anet to come up with a solution.

Game Updates: Wardrobe, Transmutation, Outfits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashabhi.1365

Ashabhi.1365

First let me say that in my entire GW2 time (since beta) I have never bought any “outfits.” All I have bought is armor.

I like the wardrobe system for what it is, however, there is no way in hell I am going to spend what they want for a one-time use upgrade extractor.

I do think one thing they did wrong was the way you could use the runes from one set of armor when you transmuted another armor. I guess I’ll just have to suck it up and buy new runes as I level. I know it’s not too much of an expense at master level, but at exotic armor levels, it can be very pricey to upgrade one’s armor when you have to repurchase runes that can cost anywhere from 3g to 30g (or more…)

Actually, yes, it has all been in there since launch except that the level 80 NPCs in Fort Vandal used to be zone level appropriate, and the “zone portal” behind them has only been in the game for a few months.

So, in theory, the OP is correct to a point. It all could have something to do with season 2, or as others have said, it could be just a mild coincidence.

Ashabhi.1365

I think almost everybody would agree that in general, the people who are enjoying the game are in-game, enjoying it.

Many of the comments here (and in any game forum) are gripes or complaints that something isn’t right for the poster.

I think we can also all agree that there is a big difference between “Please fix (X) because it’s causing (Y) to happen, which I think is not working as intended” and “I want you to add (Z) to the game or I’m gonna /ragequit!”

Complaining isn’t necessarily bad in and of itself. General complaints about specific issues along with their corresponding solutions isn’t the same as demanding that a feature be removed or added like a spoiled child.

Unfortunately, there are those who frequent the forums who not only seem to be incapable of putting a coherent sentence together but they have to put forth their concerns in a way that makes them sound like all they’re doing is whining because they can’t have their way. Many of them don’t even play the game any more.

We can’t stop these type of posts, but we can ignore them. Responding only fans the flames into a full blown wildfire.

Non-English Languages, culture, map chat.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ashabhi.1365

I live in the USA. I speak 3 languages fluently, and I can muddle through 2 or 3 more if I had to.

My opinion in this matter is mixed. While I don’t want anyone to feel that they can’t speak their native language, we do play on the NA side of the game. One should expect the primary language in NA to be English.

Spamming map chat with other languages constantly only serves to ignite tensions between nationalities. Asking someone to help in (insert language here) should NEVER be met with hatred and choruses of “Learn ENGLISH or GTFO!”

It would be no different if I were to go to a specifically German (example) server and ask for some help in English. I shouldn’t expect the entire server to switch to English just because I can’t speak German. I should be the one to make an effort.

Funny thing is that even English speakers have issues understanding each other sometimes. My native language is Southern US English. I say things that British English speakers don’t understand. Rather than expect them to learn my colloquialisms and inflections, I try to speak “proper” English in order to be understood. It doesn’t mean I won’t come out with something totally Southern, but I am not going to deliberately use phrases that I know will be met with choruses of “huh?”

Until Anet comes up with something to help out, I would suggest we all be a bit more tolerant.

I think it’s too early to say one way or another.

Right now the patch has been live for what, less than a week? People are coming in droves to check out the changes. Once the initial bedlam dies down, you can make a more informed opinion of how things are going to be.

As for major events being zerg fests, that will always happen.

As for taking an extra few minutes to taxi everyone, come on… of all the things to complain about in this game, an extra 5 or 6 minutes of prep time isn’t one of them.

So, for now, at least until I have had more experience with it, I am not saying whether the megaserver is good or bad.

There should be little “dungeon icons” on your map. If you’re at level 40, I believe the only ones you should have access to are Ascalonian Catacombs and Cadaceus Manor. AC is in Ascalon, NE a ways from the Black Citadel, and CM is in Beetletun in SE Queensdale. The rest pop up when you reach the appropriate level.

Good luck to you!

Been playing on and off since release, sometimes more, sometimes less.

I’ve had some fun with the game, but my time is through so I’ll leave my final bit of feedback.

1) Too many nerfs in the patch. These itemization and stat changes really needed to be done before people sunk hundreds of hours into farming for their ascended gear. The class balance changes should have been pushed off until after seeing the effects of the stat changes; a bunch of builds feel double nerfed.

2) Very little permanent content additions since release.

3) Fractals are one of the few major additions and many of them are still plagued with huge problems.

4) WvW never lived up to its potential. Was a huge selling point pre-launch but didn’t receive enough support post-launch to make it a viable endgame activity in its own right. I played DAoC for years and this is no DAoC. Not even close.

I understand that your opinion of things is just that. Your opinion.

Having said that, I have to agree with some of them.

1. Yes, I think they overdid things out of the gate. I think they should have separated some of the new features and rolled them out in stages. Now that the horse is out of the barn, so to speak, we’ll have to adjust. The thing that irritates the kitten out of me is that players would rather /ragequit because their favorite build isn’t viable any more rather than learn to play another way. What is so wrong with learning something new? Like in any evolution, adapt or die.

2. There have been very minor permanent additions, yes, but like it or not, we had something new to do every 2 or 3 weeks for the last year. Just because they’re not to your liking doesn’t mean that they were horrid for everyone. I do hope there will be new zones and permanent content in the near future.

3. Agreed. From what I understand of the whole Fractal mess, there are issues. I cannot comment on the specifics, as I have never set foot in one, but my guildie says they need improvement and soon.

4. WvW is an aspect of the game that is very specific to a certain type of player, as is sPvP, and PvE. It does have potential to be great, but in my experiences, it’s not the WvW theater. It’s the WvW players who choose how it is played. Every time I am there, the tactics seem to be “zerg this keep” or “Follow the blue dorito” rather than a concerted effort to rule the map. It could be better, but again, it’s not the concept, it’s the implementation.

I do understand your frustration, and if the game has changed so much that you can’t enjoy it any more, then farewell. I hope you find exactly what you’re looking for. If not, and you want to try GW2 again, come on back.

oh…(obligatory sarcasm sentence) can I haz U stuff???
