And you idiots thought Scarlet was bad, I’ll turn your kingdoms into ash
Your father smelled of elderberries!
Go away or I shall taunt you a second time! (clip clop clip clop)
I walked around LA for a while as well (instead of running.)
I was not at ground zero for 9/11. I can only imagine the feelings of those who were.
I was, however in Joplin May 22, 2011. Rest in Peace, the 158 people who died.
Things I had seen for most of my adult life were simply gone. Oddities like the slides at McDonalds still standing, only the rest of the building was gone. The wall with a lone couch in front that everyone who came by signed. The ruined hospital. The bulletin boards with names of people who simply wanted the world to know they are alive. and as far as the eye could see was nothing but destruction.
I did have to leave LA for a bit until I could get my emotions under control. I am better now, and plan to go back in soon to simply walk and pay my respects to a city that will forever be changed.
Oh… and I am not a Roleplayer, but after GW1 for years and GW2 since beta1, it’s till like losing a friend.

ok… I am relatively new to the zerker spec, as I have run other builds (for a number of reasons) and I am still learning the mechanics.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but Precision gives you more of a chance of a crit. This means that on every hit, you have a _% chance of making a “critical hit” correct?
Critical damage, on the other hand, is __% more damage you do as a percentage of your “regular damage.” right?
So, with the changes in ferocity/crit dmg, my chance of a crit isn’t changed, but the damage I will do when I crit will be decreased ____% depending on how my ferocity adds up?
As I said, I am still learning the zerker build and I just want to make sure my assumptions are correct before I start assembling the stuff for my baby zerker.
Thanks in advance, folks!
@ Lunchbox: I hope there’s no rule about crossposting. I saw your post verbatim elsewhere.
OT:
Boredom strikes people at different times, and for different reasons. There are lots of things to do in-game, but not everyone is happy with what there is.
If you find yourself standing around, and everything that you can think of is meh, then maybe it’s simply time for a break. Go outside, play another game, watch TV, interact with other humans, or knit tea cozies. It doesn’t matter, as long as it’s NOT playing Gw2. Come back in a couple weeks with the new feature patch and see if it’s still boring or if you’re excited about the game again.
Good luck to you.
I, for one, am kind of happy with a break. It will give me time to do some of the other things that I have put off because of doing the LS.
But, I do think we’ll see some sort of silliness for April 1st. I’m up for that.
Interesting idea. We already assume that Kasmeer’s clothing is “an illusion”(I forget the reference…) so what if Scarlet’s whole facade was an illusion?
The only fly in the ointment would be that when she died, all the illusion would fade away…unless we didn’t kill the “real” Scarlet.
TL;DR:
Of course they’re going to rebuild. I just hope they take their time with it and do it right.THe lion’s statue was destroyed in the first halloween update, they fixed it over the next few patches in steps. Just thought you might like to know they’ve already done something like that.
I know they did. With each update, they did a bit more. I like that they didn’t just wave their magic wand and a new statue showed up.
I want to see them take their time with LA just like they did with the statue…just sayin’
Three favorite things about LS Season1
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: Ashabhi.1365
1. Something new to do every two weeks.
2. I loved the Marionette.
3. Trahearne was nowhere to be found. Maybe we’ll be rid of him for a while.
LA will be rebuilt. It’s far too important not to be.
I think the new portals are going to be the ones they were “fixing” in Coriolis Plaza, seeing as the old ones are just simply gone.
I also think (hope) that the people will realize that shipwrecks and flotsam do not make a strong city and that they start to build a “real” city with stone buildings and fortifications to prevent something like this from happening again.
I also think raising the old LA fountain from the bay is a good idea. Better than the lion statue.
But, the one thing I hope for more than anything else is that they take their time with it. I don’t want to get a patch one morning and find a whole new, shiny LA. I don’t care if it takes a year to do it.
In the meantime, people are resilient. They will set up tents, or make temporary buildings in order to do their business. I think the TP and the bank will show up soon. I do think that the crafting stations may take a bit more time.
TL;DR:
Of course they’re going to rebuild. I just hope they take their time with it and do it right.
A friend of mine has a tradition he calls “Dad joke Fridays”, as it is Friday I thought I’d share the bad joke this thread put into my mind:
At a secretive meeting of the largest anti Sylvari guild the imposing Charr president stands before the group and silences the room with an ominous growl.
“I call this meeting of the Dedicated Union of Meat Based Races Of Tyia to order. Over the last couple of hours I have been made aware of some disturbing information that needs to be addressed immediately. So before we get to item 1 on the agenda, Finding a better acronym, we will act on this. It has come to my attention that details of our meetings have been passed on to sylvari within hours. These are details that could only be known by someone attending these meetings.”
“You don’t mean…?”
“Yes, someone in this room is a plant!”
(If you hate me now, you only have yourself to blame for reading past the words “dad joke”)
ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow… that hurt… (In other words, well played, sir!)
Removing Restrictions: Cultural Armor. You heard it here first.
Gawd, I hope not….
They could bring out one of the Guild Wars 1 April fools, like the one where everyone turned into black stick figures or the one where all the characters switched sexes.
The stick figure one:
Got my vote
I think it would be absolutely hilarious if Mordy turned out to be “good” and is supposed to help us with whatever else it is that we’ll be fighting next. After all, energy radiates like spokes in a wheel along the ley lines… who knows what else she woke?
I can dream:
“Removing Restrictions:” Anyone can guest on any server, no matter what “region” you’re home world is in…. like I said… I can dream
In response to the OP:
1. I do miss guild halls, and I hope they institute them at some point. Even if it’s simply an instance where the guild can get together and have a place to call their own.
2. um… no…. One of the things that I have seen in these forums that absolutely makes people crazy is grind. The last thing we need is more grind. Maybe you remember it fondly, but I don’t, and I am sure I am not alone. GW1 had faction grind for Kurz/Lux, racial armor, and even rare mats. How many diamonds and sapphires did you get as drops? just no…please…no
3. Finally, even though you didn’t number it as a request, Player Housing is not a priority for me. Yes, it is in a lot of other games, and unless you RP a lot, or simply want to show off your stuff, player housing begats A.) single person play (nobody to help you build a home) and B.) More grind to get the shineys to furnish it. Some games even make you “rent” your house and decorations as a massive currency sink (I’m looking at you, Aion!) If they institute a Guild Hall system, then housing becomes redundant except in certain situations. I know a lot of people think it would be a nice addition, but in my opinion, it’s just a waste of time and money when you could be out there doing other things.
As far as “friendly play” goes, we got it pretty good. No node stealing, no mob tagging, and no real gear checks (except for “leet” players’ kitten) makes for a much friendlier game than any of the suggestions you offered.
Just call them what they are: a personal beg for housing, halls, and grind.
It’s not the only path…
There’s another near where the cemetery is set up, and I am sure there are a few more elsewhere…
I wish there was a less “cheesy” response as well, but sine there wasn’t one, oh, well.
The fact of the matter is that we have all laughed at times we shouldn’t. Especially if you’ve read any of the “Darwin Awards” deaths.
Sometimes, the more stressful the situation, the more outrageous the humor when it’s over. I know a lot of military personnel who have seen horrid things, and they laugh at things that you and I would think horrid.
In DE 2.0’s case, they’ve just seen one of the most important places in their lives utterly destroyed. I’ll forgive them their humor on this one.
I, too am interested in seeing how all this plays out.
I remember back in the glory days of EQ1, that some races were considered “dark” while others were considered “light” and their NPCs reacted accordingly. There were realms that you didn’t go into if you were human, and others you didn’t go into if you were a dark elf.
I do hope that GW2 brings some interesting nuances into the whole issue, and that the Sylvari as a race will come out of it with some bruises, but still be ok.
I also agree that the developers need to handle it very carefully.
Question about KasJory Romance [Spoiler-ish]
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: Ashabhi.1365
As some others have said, it’s not eh gender issue, but the fact that it’s “in your face” all the time.
It would be no different if it were Logan/Jennah, Rox/Braham, or any other “power couple.” Knowing that two people are involved is a whole lot different than having their relationship front and center all the time.
Back on topic:
So far, we don’t really know how the races of Tyria view relationships in general, but throughout history in the “real world” a difference in caste is much more important to the development of a person than who they are interested in. How many epic love stories do we have that involve one from the “wrong side of the tracks” who loves a noble/rich/upper caste person? Romeo and Juliet, anyone?
Even today, in some cultures, one cannot marry someone who is “above them.”
This is more of what I thought about when seeing Jory’s sister (forget her name) ribbing Jory about Kas.
Whether it be a bug or just not there, I was so hoping for a cutscene showing the ships leaving, the drill blowing up, and the people cheering. All I got was a note in my mailbox saying I was invited to the Dead End party.
the release notes say:
“Lion’s Arch
Upon entering the game, players who are level 30 and above will view a short cinematic based in the city. …”
release notes here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-March-18-2014/first#post3772979
In any case, if it was there, and it’s just a bug, anyone got a link to the vid?
OT: I wasn’t really let down by the bar scene, but I wasn’t impressed either.
The only things I took away from it was that Taimi knows more than she should, and isn’t telling anyone, and that Jory’s sister is heading to Brisbane, where we’ll probably see the next Season start. (Jory’s sister was so engrossing that I can’t remember her name… what does that tell you?)
Please, oh, please don’t turn Taimi into Scarlet 2.0…
I think Braham isn’t as “good” as we assume he is…
I think there’s anger that Eir didn’t really acknowledge him much, and that he’s on the back burner compared to Kas/Jory and that he’s been carefully grooming a facade that he “likes” Rox….
If Scarlet told the reasons why, then he would be discovered.
But, then again, I don’t like Braham much. Can you tell? lol
For the most part, I agree. Thank you to the good commanders, and I am glad to have had you around.
But, as Omai (love the name, man) stated, the biggest problem with commander tags is that they’re purchased. At least one can usually tell in the first few moments whether a commander is good, bad, or just inexperienced.
Cheers!
1. Guild Tools and Guild vs. Guild
2. Risk vs. Reward
I reserve this space to post more as I think of them
Alas, Taku is correct. According to the wiki, and the devs, the races couldn’t have interracial relations that produce offspring. Which is really too bad, ecause I used to fancy my Necro as a Norn/Elonan mix…
Back on topic,
I am not sure that choosing the slimmest build is the best remedy. If you’re happy with your build, then I would keep looking until you find one that works for you, or maybe choose a build that is more balanced rather than more exaggerated.
In the end, I chose the most muscular build for my Norn, which also has relatively large ta-tas for the build, and I have not had a single problem with any of her armor. Except that I haven’t found what I like for her yet.
Good luck in your search.
I’m now expecting Christina to appear as an NPC in the game selling cookies
This would be EPIC! Maybe in Queensdale, right next to the bread merchant as you come out of DR.

The truth of the matter is that we have no idea what’s happening in Season 2 of the LS yet. The only things we know for sure is that Scarlet hit the nexus of the Ley Lines and that we’ve awoken what’s most likely going to be Mordremoth.
There are still a few possibilities that have yet to be speculated about:
1. As the OP mentioned, the world looks like there will be some major changes concerning the power that was released from the Ley Lines. Whether it’s an actual crack or just a scarred path from the energy is yet to be seen.
2. Scarlet may have been after the dragon, or she may have been after something else. Power radiates more like the spokes of a wheel, so although Mordy looks like he’s stirring, there may be other things she disturbed. After all, the map in Scarlet’s control room showed the Far Shiverpeaks, and not Maguuma/Magus Falls.
3. Anet is fond of “leading us” in one direction and then hitting us from behind. We all could be very far off from the next Season’s plot.
So, in any case, it will be interesting the direction they take with this. It wouldn’t surprise me if they were sitting in the office, reading the speculation threads, and laughing their collective hineys off thinking “Wait til they get a load of this…” (Apologies to the Batman Franchise and the great Jack Nicholson for corrupting his lines…)
@ the OP:
If this is your first character, by all means… simply play the game. Do the hearts, Dynamic Events, Meta events, and wander the world looking at everything. It’s well worth it the first time through if for no other reason than it teaches you how to play. There is a lot of mechanics that are not difficult, but definitely different than other games.
If this is an alt, and you’re just trying to make it to 80 so you can join your friends with a class other than your “main” then I would still recommend doing the hearts and whatnot, because other than spending gold, it’s still the best way to level.
In general, one can gain a level every hour or 2, depending on the heart, event, or meta. The nice thing is that it doesn’t matter if it’s going from level 10-11 or 79-80, it still takes roughly the same time instead of racing to level 40 and sitting there for a week til 41.
My personal advice is not to rush it. Don’t be “that guy” who’s sitting around in a hub wondering why there’s nothing to do.
The Holy Trinity should be left in Church. That’s the only place it has any meaning at all.
In an MMO, it existed for years because it was the only way the developers made games. So, we all learned how to play using the trinity and we got used to it.
Along comes GW2 with no trinity, and the players’ answer to the lack of a trinity is to complain that there’s no trinity because they are so used to the roles they can’t learn how to play without it.
I like being responsible for myself in a game and not having to hang out in town for hours looking for a healer/tank/support player. I like being able to help set up fields for my fellow players to use against mobs. I also like being able to run DPS on pretty much any character (yes, I know some are better than others.)
Just because the OP (and others) are so very used to a system that should have been lost years ago has been around for years doesn’t mean it was a good system.
So how do we all rate the end of LS season 1
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

6/10
The story itself could have been better. It was drawn out, and some of it didn’t make sense. From the beginning of the refugees migrating to town, it should have been much more interwoven instead of “go to X and slay Y” and then “go to the other end of the map and slay Z.” On the other hand, I think I was one of the first who saw an overreaching arc to the story and realized it was all related (except maybe the Zephyr Sanctum…not sure where it fit into the story except to give us a break.)
Scarlet, as a villain wasn’t the worst I have ever seen, but darned near. I would have loved to see her from Day 1 as Ceara, and then witness her evolution into a villain instead of just having her show up one day. I think I would have accepted her a bit more if I had actually heard the Asura talking (in Rata Sum before the LS) about a salad that was allowed into their courses of study. A simple case of giving her a believable backstory.
As for the events themselves, there were good and bad. I did think Anet was getting better at them toward the end, as far as design and implementation, BUT… I think the zergfest mechanics need to stop, and the other end of the scale (needing 80+ people to coordinate exactly) needs to be mellowed out.
Overall, I think I enjoyed most of it, but there were parts I simply ignored because they were horrid for me.
25 keys:
110 supply bags, gawd knows how many boosters and “junk,” 3 more keys, a hairstyle kit, assorted dyes I already had, and 5 scraps, and 3 full tickets.
Sometimes I do get “lucky.” Makes me want to go buy a Mega Ball, except that I will guarantee you that I will be 1 number away on all my number picks…lol
On a purely personal note, I think the whole concept of the LS was a good one. Its downfall was in that the execution was kind of iffy.
There were parts that were incredibly fun, but in the end, most of it was “run with the zerg or die.” One didn’t get to actually see most of the content. You couldn’t solo the tower, for instance, and explore the nooks and crannies. If your group left you, you died. period.
You just weren’t given the chance to explore the story.
Primordus is already awake; he awoke at the very end of EoTN. He’s down in the Depths clearing space; the dragon we see is in the jungle and doesn’t awaken until the magic gets to him.
I don’t disagree with you, but I do think that as I said, maybe Mordy isn’t the only one we’re going to be dealing with. I do believe that Scarlet’s mahem isn’t limited to one linear direction.
Leylines travel in straight lines (they snake back and forth at the ground level but the big picture is a line.) If you trace a line from the Breachmaker to Thaumanova and keep going, you end up in Magus Falls in Maguuma. In order for your theory to be correct, the energy would have traveled in the exact opposite direction. Instead it clearly moves from LA to Thaumanova, through a dry zone and into a dark jungle.
I imagine the energy in ley lines somewhat like spokes in a wheel. Yes, it moves in a straight line, but if something happens at a nexus, the energy goes more than one direction, fanning away from an epicenter much like an earthquake rather than a cone. So, even though they show one direction, it is entirely possible that the energy goes the other way as well. If you take the same objectiveness and move it the other direction, you get the Far Shiverpeaks as well, along with places like The Crystal Desert.
It’s Mordremoth. That picture is probably just to show how far Scarlet was looking with her probes; remember that she was not looking for the dragon itself but instead for a leyline hub that connected to the dragon. You’re giving too much importance to a picture I think.
If I am giving too much importance to a picture, then so is everyone else, as the first inkling we had of another dragon was a picture.
I do see what you’re saying, and I may be way off, but it just seems to me to be too cut and dry. Waking Mordremoth, I think, is a side effect of whatever it was she was doing. There’s just got to be more to it than that.
I know that the vast majority of the forum posters tend to think that we’re going to see Mordremoth in the next season. I am not disputing the very good possibility of that being exactly what we will do.
BUT>>>>>
I hung out in Scarlet’s control room after we killed her and I noticed something that I am sure everyone else saw, but it struck me as odd.
To the right as you step over Scarlet’s body, is the map we’ve all seen of Tyria with the thumper locations clearly marked.
To the left is another map, but it’s not of the Jungle, where I would assume she would have been focusing her attention if she were trying to wake/defeat/irritate Mordy. No, my friends, the map to the left is none other than the Far Shiverpeaks with Drakkar Lake clearly at the center. (The attached picture isn’t very clear, but it’s all I got.)
Those of us who played GW1 wit hthe EOTN expansion know that there is a dragon lieutenant at that was frozen in the lake. His/her name was Drakkar, hence the naming of the lake. He is a lieutenant of Jormag.
However, the final battle of GW1 (A Time For Heores) we are still “under” the Far Shiverpeaks, fighting the Great Destroyer. In the second picture, you can clearly see Primordus in his slumber. (sorry it’s so small…)
So, my theory is this: Since power can travel so quickly, it may not be Mordy we see in the final cutscene. It may be Primordus. Not only that, instead of getting a Jungle to explore, it might be the Far Shiverpeaks, with another Lieutenant to fight (a la Teq.) All of this ties in to Scarlet possibly being deliberate when she awakens Mordy, in order to “use” him to fight the new threats in the North. Kind of an “Enemy of My Enemy is My Friend” sort of situation.
Yes, my theory may be 180 degrees out from everyone elses, but I find it odd that she would have a picture of the far shiverpeaks instead of the Jungle if she were trying to wake Mordremoth.
Thanks for listening to a crazy old lady
I would like to see a Norn villain…
Picture this:
Everyone is in Maguuma fighting whatever Scarlet woke, and have left the Sons of Svanir to their own. Nobody is really thinking about them right now.
Braham is actually a Son of Svanir convert, and has mysteriously disappeared for a while. Nobody realizes he has gone back to his homeland and is beginning to take over the Shiverpeaks in a quest for land and glory (not to mention the rewards from Jormag) while everyone else is preoccupied elsewhere.
By the time anyone notices that there’s a new Svanir threat, he’s gained half of the Shiverpeaks and is eyeing Hoelbrak itself.
Meanwhile, Rox is so devastated by his betrayal, she becomes obsessed with destroying him and sets off to find Braham, and then Jormag himself for destroying her favorite Norn Friend.

…and gender is an issue because?
If gender were a real issue, then why are such a large porportion of male players playing female characters? Why do females play male characters?
I think the bigger question is why do we care?
Years ago, the profile of a gamer tended to be young, male, lots of free time, and social awkwardness of some level. Today, gamers in general come in all genders, income levels, education levels, ages, and time constraints. Public figures and celebrities, blue collar workers, management, and yes, the stereotypical kid in the basement all play games.
GuildWars 2 has brought to us a group of protagonists who just happen to be primarily female. We don’t know yet whether or not more males will be added to this group, although I am sure that these 5 are not going to be the only people we come into contact with in the upcoming chapters. They’re just the ones we are seeing right now.
Don’t forget that the NPCs seen in the PS, hearts, and just wandering around seem to be pretty well balanced.
I do admit that DE2.0 could be more balanced, as DE1.0 was (Logan, Snaff, and Rytlock are male, Zojja, Caithe and Eir are female.)
Who knows? maybe some of the other male characters will become more involved in the story. We can’t forget about Ho-bo-tron, Lord Farin (sp,) Canach, and Evon. They may come to the forefront later, and the numbers be reversed.
I’ve only been able to finish it once, and I got bags of supplies, a couple greens, a blue, and one rare item that didn’t even salvage out to anything. I plan to do it again this weekend, and we’ll see if I get anything good.
Funny thing is that I didn’t really care if I got anything or not. I was just having fun. (gasp)
On Topic:
Although the conversation here has one far away from the central idea of whether or not someone likes the Jory/Kas or not, I want to take another stab at trying to explain how I feel about the “whole crew” that would be Destiny’s Edge 2.0…
I do feel like we need to flesh out the stories of the rest of the central characters.
I first met Braham when he was meeting with Rytlock back in one of the first LS chapters, and I kind of followed him around. I feel that he needs to have more of his story heard. In my opinion the following needs to be addressed:
1. Why is it that in the beginning, there was doubt as to whether or not Eir was really his mother, or he just thought she was. Also, why did I get the feelign that Eir just didn’t want to acknowledge him back then.
2. What drives him? Is it solely his wish to improve himself for his ex’s favor or is there something else.
3. Why does he want to help Rox get into a warband? just because he’s helping a friend, or is there somethng else there, like a blood oath or something?
As for Rox, I do not know her story so well, and maybe that’s the problem. Except for knowing about her desire to become part of the warband, I don’t know why, or how she came to be a gladium, or what her stake in Braham’s life is.
I like Taimi. I do believe she may evolve into something like the “good” side of Scarlet, as she seems to be as intelligent and hungry for knowledge as Scarlet was, but her heart is good. I very much hope that ANet doesn’t make her turn evil, or at least makes an effort to “save her” from whatever she may accidentally get herself into. She has the potential to be something very special in the upcoming chapters.
Finally, as for Jory and Kas…
When I first saw Kas, I got the impression that she was a spoiled rich kid dabbling in something her daddy didn’t want her to do. Her aide, Jory, was a slightly shady person with ties that aren’t readily known, and I truly got the impression that the two were hanging out together in order to kitten off Kas’s parents.
At first, when there was evidence of something more than a business relationship, again, I thought it was because Kas was trying to irritate her family, and until the Tower, I thought it would dissipate when there was a real danger.
Now that it’s a given that they are together, I am happy for them, but I still wonder if it will cause issues because Jory is not “of the same class of parentage” as Kas.
Do I like them? Kind of. I worry that ensemble casts tend to end up putting one or two people into the limelight and ignore the rest. Their story has great potential for future events, as long as Anet doesn’t expand upon them at the expense of Braham, Rox and Taimi.
I think it would be interesting if they never rebuild it where it is now. It’s quite possible that the land is too damaged. After all, a big kittened monster drill just hit a ley line nexus, and we don’t know all the ramifications of the release of energy yet.
For all we know, the ruins of LA might rise from the harbor and we get the little lion statues back.
In any case, I would be disappointed if they rebuilt it too fast. It’s just not right that you get an update and the city is just there all of a sudden.
On topic, I like Jory/Kas as individuals as well, but as a couple, they could have done it better. They could have been more stoic, as Rox and Braham are, but then again, Kas does wear her heart on her sleeve.
The fact that they are women doesn’t make any difference to me at all. I would feel the same way if it were male/male, male/female, or quaggan/centaur.
As far as having a lifestyle forced upon me? No. I have more issues with people who decry something like this and then hypocritically say that they’re not forcing their beliefs upon me (us.)
The Epilogue Better Be Grand *Spoilers*
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: Ashabhi.1365
I am not sure about some of the questions, but here’s a few theories that I came up with:
1. The Breachmaker will sit idle for a while, then slowly be dismantled and used for spare parts for the “New LA.” Either that or we’ll have a cinematic a la Tower of Nightmares that shows the Lionguard and friends blowing it up so they can begin salvage operations.
2. We will find that waking a Mordremoth (if that’s who she woke) is secondary to whatever else Scarlet has done under LA. Evidently, tapping leylines affects more than sleeping dragons. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if she woke the dragon on purpose in hopes she could use it like she did the alliances in order to “save” us all from whatever “new master” she thinks we’ll all be under. Kind of an “enemy of my enemy is my friend” type dynamic. (personal note: I wish that someone goes under LA and finds the portal to UW ^^)
3. While in the process of salvaging the Breachmaker, we’ll find yet another diary by Scarlet that kind of outlines her real agenda, and it will be exactly what we thought: She’s batkitten crazy and thought that waking a dragon, any dragon, would bring Tyria to its knees so she could rule the world.
Just the ramblings of a bored old lady….
The difference is in whether the person lets their conditions define them.
Our conditions do not define us but all of them have an impact on our lives. I’m writing this as someone living with multiple disabilities. Taimi does not reflect that sentiment. Her golem isn’t hard to control, never malfunctions, appears to be extremely durable and is superior in every way when compared to her actual physical body. Why did the writers give her a disability at all when it has no drawbacks or consequences? It feels artificial and cheap.
I am sorry you feel that way.
It remains to be seen what other impacts it has on her life. The most important thing about it is this: Who cares if it’s not “real”?
This character has inspired others, and I, for one, think that it’s great that a major label MMO has a main character or two (hats off to Tybalt) that is disabled. Even if it’s not really evident how that disability impacts them for the rest of the story.
Here’s an e-hug for you, Slowpoke. It sounds as if you need one.
/snip
While Taimi’s impairment is a nice nod towards people with disabilities, it doesn’t hinder her in the slightest and thus makes for an unrelatable character. Take away the deux-ex-machina golem suit so we can see a character whose illness actually impacts them instead of being treated as a tacked on woobie trait.

I understand why you would feel this way, but Taimi’s cindition DOES impact her, as evidenced by needing a golem to get around. We simply have not seen the other ways she is impacted yet.
You have to understand also, that in real life, many people are partially or totally disabled and accomplish things that able bodied people cannot. Not all of them are so visible that one can say whether or not they’re impacted.
There are amputee athletes who can outrun most whole people. There are people in wheelchairs who play better basketball than you or I could ever hope to. There is a rather famous disabled person who one of the the best theoretical physicists in the world (Salute, Stephen William Hawking CH CBE FRS FRSA!) These are but a few examples.
The difference is in whether the person lets their conditions define them.
@Christina:
Thank you. Nuff said.
@Anet, GW2 Team and the devs:
Yes, pelase, a mini Taimi for Christina! I know a single instance of a mini can be done. Gaile Grey had a frog I would have killed for in GW1!

The r/l ramifications of in in-game marriage can cause more problems than one realizes. I remember trying to explain another game’s “marriage” feature to my non-gamer husband.
Roleplaying aside, there is no reason to be “married” to another player. Any buff that would be applied is already available through other means such as boosters.
Please don’t let this become a cyber dating game.
I am still holding a small glimmer of hope that the Dragon (assumed to be Mordremoth) isn’t the only thing Scarlet woke up down there…as in maybe Mordy is a side effect…
but yeah, now that I know what you mean by “payoff,” I understand. I was truly hoping Scarlet would have been more challenging in the final scene, instead of being half dead already.
On Topic:
I personally have seen many hetero relationships in the game. Some are just so far in the background (like the woman complaining about her husband in DR) that we just ignore them. I feel like the only reason that this one is causing so much flak is that it isn’t hetero, and it’s been made to be part of the storyline more so than the Jennah/Logan non-romance.
Should ANet have implied a kiss rather than shown it? I can’t say. I personally found it rather clichéd.
The real question should be: Who cares? Two people in a story shared a kiss. It happens all the time. What difference does it make if it’s two females, two males, or a male and a female? Good grief!
I want to know where Raisin is! His Charr friend, alas, is deathly ill at the Vigil camp, and will more than likely not make it, but nobody’s seen Raisin.
For those who don’t know who I am talking about, he’s the Asura progeny half of the conversation in Lion’s Arch talking about how his face was all squished like a Raisin, which is why we call him Raisin,,,

I am going to play Devil’s Advocate here for a moment and address some of the issues I read in this thread.
Many times, people simply don’t know how to play, that is a given. It doesn’t matter if they’re a long time player or brand new off the shelf.
Posting ideas and suggestions is great, and I do appreciate all the knowledge that is passed along.
BUT>>>>
The tone that so many here and elsewhere have used is trollish, boorish, and elitist. While the intent is good, the words are more likely to make people automatically feel as if those who are trying to help are actually talking down to them.
If someone needs to use food, why not say something like “If you use (insert food here) then you’ll add DPS blahblahblah…” instead of “You should be using food, nub!” Maybe send them one so they can try it for themselves?
How about explaining to a new person how the rally system works? or when to dodge in a given situation?
As far as eles and mesmers disappearing in mid-rez, how many times have we been so intent on what we’re doing that we didn’t realize someone was helping? I’ve done it.
I am not saying that we don’t need to use food, WP when necessary, or learn to dodge at the right moments. I am saying that talking to someone and helping them out will get you a lot better new player than simply yelling at them about things they may not know.
Star Ace said it right when he said, “This thread has that element of ‘I do not mean to be troll, but I’ll troll you anyway’ on the very second paragraph. Unless the OP has no idea how inflammatory the whole thing is and is genuinely being oblivious to it.”
It all boils down to the fact that you can hand someone a plate of gold, but if it’s covered in excrement, nobody’s going to take it.
One more wrench to throw in the machinery for you:
The Scepter of Orr.
From the GW2 Wiki: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Scepter_of_Orr
“The Scepter of Orr is one of two legendary staffs that were created prior to the Exodus of the Gods. The Scepter and its counterpart, the since-destroyed Staff of the Mists, were each given to one of the great nations of the world, although which weapon went were has since been forgotten. The weapons were intended to offer protection, but their power corrupted their bearers and unleashed horrors upon the land. Eventually, the Six Gods were forced to intervene by striking down both kings and sealing each weapon within its bearer’s tomb. Afterward, the Scepter was moved to Orr, where it remained until it went missing just before the the Cataclysm in 1071 AE.
The Scepter next appeared in 1072 AE, when the White Mantle recovered it from Majesty’s Rest and kept it from the invading undead until it was stolen by the Shining Blade from the Temple of the Unseen. As part of their effort to counter the White Mantle, the rebels arranged to give the Scepter to Vizier Khilbron, who was thought to be a survivor of the Cataclysm. In fact, Khilbron was a powerful Undead Lich who wanted the staff so he could control the titans. After Khilbron’s defeat at Abaddon’s Mouth, the weapon was spirited away before it could be destroyed by the volcano. After the defeat of the Great Destroyer, the human necromancer Livia sought out and recovered the Scepter and had it in her possession for some time.
While the Staff of the Mists was known to bend the fabric of the universe to the will of its user, less has been recorded about the Scepter’s powers. Khilbron directed the titans with it and he also claimed that it could be used to control the undead. It was seen influencing souls and the wielder’s energy. Furthermore, Livia, its last known possessor, lived for at least a century and a half after finding it – though whether that is tied to the Scepter is unknown."
Somebody’s got to take over the control of the Risen, right? Especially if Zhaitan isn’t doing it any more.
Features, to me, would mean something that one could advertise in the manner of “Try us! We have _______.”
So, it could be anything from left nasal inhalers to housing and guild halls. It wouldn’t change the existing game or maps like an expansion would, but might give us some QoL upgrades and mechanics changes. (Fingers crossed for GvG someday)
At least, that’s my take on it.
