1. Guild Menu (lack) tools…god forbid that I need to see who hasn’t logged in for 3 months or who hasn’t represented in the last two weeks…never mind sending a mass email to my guildies.
2. Which brings me to the mail system… I know they’re trying to prevent gold spam, but sheesh… 2 emails and I’m “supressed due to excessive emailing?” Seriously?
3. I can’t send myself anything….I have to run to my bank, switch characters, and then run to the bank….ad nauseum… Why can’t I just send myself that pick or bag that I need, or send my alt that lower level drop I just got?
I know, they’re not earth-shattering, but those are mine.
I honestly don’t get why most of the community wants to rush the idea of creating something Canthan themed or an expansion that gets us there, we’re not even done with Kryta and now everyone wants to move to the next continent.
I mean don’t get me wrong I loved GW Factions it was a great expansion; but still everyone says that if they don’t remake the Canthan district people will rage.
Seriously as of now there isn’t anything Canthan in the game and you don’t see posts everyday about it, if they place something else in there we’ll be in the same state, with no Canthan influence so I don’t see the reason to rage.
Keep calm people and stop grabbing your pitchforks and torches everytime you see something like this.
According to lore the Cantha District never existed but in reality it did and was removed before the launch of the game. Supposedly at the request of NCsoft to be culturally sensitive to eastern audiences and to keep the game more “universal”.
I believe people are so eager because they are afraid we’ll never get to see Cantha. With the fact that it was already in game to some extent and than removed and covered up by lore is sort of a troubling thought. The comments from Josh Foreman in the Cantha Thread make it sound like they would need approval before approaching it again, which seems like we won’t see anything heavily Canthan related until an expansion. I think though that if there was some confirmation that Cantha wasn’t a taboo subject and that Anet would definitely be visiting it in the later future that would sort of quell the concerns and eagerness.
There are hints of Cantha all over, but you have to understand that Cantha wasn’t “removed” it was just “Covered up…”
Mai Trin “looks” Canthan….is it possible that the Aetherblades are actually Canthan, and that Cantha has developed a way to fly? Who knows?
Right now, I would hesitate a guess that the tent over the Collapse is more to do with an upcoming Living World story that involves the Thermanuava(sp) Reactor and whatnot… Not that I don’t believe Cantha has something to do with it, but that I think the other is closer to what we’re doing now (i.e. Ellen’s quest to investigate it)
In order for me to get truly excited about WvW, there would need to be something to do…
Yes, I can explore (and get killed along the way) or unlock waypoints (and get killed along the way) or run with the zerg (and get killed A LOT along the way)…
I would be more tempted to go if maybe there were something akin to hearts or DEs that didn’t involve hanging out and waiting for the zerg to run by so you can die…
Also, the prospect of leveling a character in WvW is dismal. The rewards vs time spent just aren’t there. Yes, you’re pumped up to 80, but you still have to unlock your skills and traits, and you just can’t do that unless you’ve done them in Tyria instead beforehand.
I have a lvl 80, but she’s not really a PvP character. The one PvP-oriented character I have only has about half her traits unlocked. Why should I put her into a situation where the likelyhood of her getting to “real” level 80 through WvW PvP will take 3 times as long and is 7 times the effort?
Make it easier to participate and find some things to do, and I’ll be there!
Gee, thanks… now I’m going to have to go find it….
I made a Sylvari called Hice Ensalada…..It’s not-quite-correct Spanish for “I made a salad..”
Cheers!
I soooooo want an Asurapult (2nd attempt at post…ANet ate the first one, so if it shows up eventually, please delete/ignore it…
)
1. alternative leveling…there is none… Once I leveled to 80, the rest have to go through the same exact hearts/ps progression. Even if I go to other starting zones, it’s basically the same. Do hearts, hang out for DE’s and maybe craft a bit. The problem isn’t in the idea of doing them, but the fact that they’re all the same. Anet was trying to do away with the KTR system (kill ten rats for those who are wondering) and in the end made exactly that kind of system. “Help so-and-so protect the fort…by killing the whatevers” gets old after awhile.
2. Rewards. It’s a basic ROI problem. The more time and energy you spend on something, the better the reward should be. There are champs out there that nobody kills because after fighting for 20 minutes, all you get, even at top level, is a subpar item or a few silver.
3. PvE culling…I hate coming into an area and thinking “Yay, there’s only a few of us” and then 400 names and people pop out of nowhere because of culling.
and I’ll add a 4th… Big Boss zergs…Thanks to things like Dragon Timer, and other similar sites, it takes all of 30 seconds to put down a big boss. I would rather see them be put on random time intervals and actually have to work to get there instead of hanging out waiting on the spawn window. They just don’t seem to be “World Bosses” any more. Here’s an idea…make one a true World Boss…Random spawn, random zone, random level. We have to find him before we can kill him
Cheers!
Have a primary guild but there’s nobody on in the mornings? Do you work during the evenings and can’t play during “Prime Time?” Don’t want to have to join another server just to find people to play during “your” hours? Then Ante Meridiem [AM] just might be for you!
Ante Meridiem [AM] is a brand new part-time guild on Tarnished Coast that is being created to help people find groups in mornings between Midnight and Noon Central US Time. Anyone who has tried to run a dungeon or put together a WvW team during “off” hours knows how difficult it can be. Why not join a guild that is up and running during the hours YOU want to play?
Guild rules are simple:
1. You can belong to any other guild you wish, but between the hours of midnight and Noon Central Time (GMT-6) you must represent [AM]. (Chicago, Kansas City, St. Louis and Dallas are all on Central time)
2. You must be on a North American server, regardless of what country you live in.
3. You must be over 18
4. You must be willing to have fun!
Because mornings were pretty lonely, it was decided to create a guild for those who find grouping painful. Hopefully, by creating this guild, people who are online in the mornings can get together and play, regardless of their primary guild affiliation.
[AM] is casual, social, and friendly. If hanging out in LA is your thing, then that’s fine. If hardcore dungeon crawling is your thing, that’s OK too. The more that come to [AM] the more likely there will be guildies to run with.
To among the first to register go to antemeridiem.guildportal.com OR send an in-game message to Ashabhi.1365
See you in the Morning!

In a large group of people, there is one or two that will stand out while the rest are in “stock sets” with different dyes…
The biggest problem with the armors in this game (not talking about beauty or ugliness) is that for a given level, type, and rarity, they’re ALL THE SAME. Light Female 42K Karma armor looks the same no matter if you get it from Melandru, Balthazar, or Grenth. I would rather see something like in GW1, where the stats are the same, but the look is different. Maybe something with a nature theme for Melandru, Death for Grenth, and actual battle armor for Balthazar.
So as long as there are some who put together combos that are outstanding, then yes, I will look.
Right now, when you wish to purchase gems, you only have a few options for your credit card.
I am suggesting either a way to choose exactly how much you want to spend or exactly how many gems I wish to buy.
Example: Right now if I spend $20 then I get 1600 gems. In order to get the additional 200 gems needed for a server transfer to a high population world, I would have to purchase an additional 1000 gems. I don’t need that many. So, why not let me opt to buy whatever I need with an exchange system similar to what is in the game now? For instance, each 100 gems are worth $1 and then I can choose to buy how ever many hundreds I want.
It’s bad enough that the items in the gem shop are expensive (relatively speaking) but the lack of options makes it less likely that I will buy.
Cheers from the Old Lady!
@ the OP:
Yes. The elitism you speak of is ruining the game…for you.
The rest of us are socializing, trying new things, and actually enjoying what content they have. We are exploring, and doing world completion at a snail’s pace..and loving it!
I am sorry that the game does not cater to the ultra-hardcore dungeon crawlers/raiders. If it did, may of us (myself included) would be looking for something else.
So, in answer to your orignal post:
Yes, you ruined it for yourself.
My ideal way of aquiring skins is the way they did it in GW1…you had to EARN them either by killing the boss who carries it or paying in-game funds for in-game items.
Sine they are going the RNG way, I will probably not invest in those skins unless I happen to get a lucky drop from some mob.
I don’t mind the gem store for “town clothes” or fuzzy backpacks. I don’t mind buying transmute stones/crystals nor do I mind the services such as server transfers.
But A-net needs to separate the two. Don’t sell something in the store that has no better RNG chance than something in-game. If I am to pay real money for something, then give me something for the real money I am paying.
(Edit: You didn’t get skins specifically from bosses in GW1… You got specific named weapons, each with its own skin and “extra” stats. The armor skins were vendored for specific amounts of in-game items and money)
(edited by Ashabhi.1365)
I would love to have Cantha and Elona to explore. There is also a lot of other unexplored territory along with parts of Tyria that have yet to make it into GW2.
But, who knows? The globe in the Whispers HQ and the map in DR show so much more of the world than even Cantha or Elona.
My only real complaint about light armor, is that once you get to 80, all the armor looks the same. Balthazar looks like Melandru looks like Grenth.
IMHO, once you get to the point that you can get the “42k” karma armor, you should have more of a choice. It’s a shame, but I am going to reskin as soon as I have decided what I want.
I do wish there were more “traditional” mage robes, tho.
@OP:
in many games, crafting, drops, everything could be considered gambling. RNG makes it so.
This is more like a cranival game. Everyone wins a prize, just not what you want every time.
Enjoy it for what it is. If you have issues with it, then don’t buy it. Simple, right?
I find it funny that after you save the world (i.e. finish your story) that people still won’t recognize your character when you come to town, and that they want help in “slaying the dragon”
Exploits are exploits.
Report the exploit to the devs so they can fix it. Getting something because of a game flaw is wrong on a number of levels.
I would only report the exploiter if they were being kittens about it. Many times, the exploiter simply doesn’t know it’s an exploit and so reporting the player just doesn’t make sense.
RNG is RNG…
It doesn’t mean that if there’s a 1% chance that you will get it once for every 100 times you run something. It means that there is a 99% chance you wont get it on EVERY RUN.
So, there are those who will get it “by accident” on the first chest they open, or the first dungeon they run, or the first low level mob they hit with their newly minted level 80, and there are those who have a full stable of 80’s that they play non-stop who have never gotten a named weapon, never mind a precursor.
I am not going to go out of my way to get one. If I “accidentally” have one to drop, then I’ll go from there.
Good luck to all the farmers out there!
I would like to see some "battle Mage style armor for level 80. Right now all we have is can-can hose and scarves….
Closest thing this game has to it is the exotic acolyte armor…
or maybe the priory armor….
GW1: Ele with Sin 2nd.
GW2: ele right now, but Thief taking a close 2nd.
Better Guild Tools!
oh… and guild halls!
Just an old lady’s perspective:
I would rather that things stay the same as they are now. Professions SHOULDN’T be the same to level.
If your play style is an “in your face” style, then warrior or guardian is for you, and thief or ranger is not. On the other hand, if your style is to hide behind the big tanky-looking melee fighter and take potshots, then maybe the Plate Wearers aren’t for you.
Thief specifically takes a special kind of player. One who may possibly be one of those types who have 3 tvs running, reading a newspaper, and playing an MMO all at the same time. I love them, but the simple fact is, I can’t play them well. On the other hand, I rock as an ele.
TL;DR:
Don’t change the leveling process. Take a look at your class choice instead.
Back to the topic at hand here:
I think the disparity between those seen as “rich” in-game and those who are not has more to do with their play style than their income.
It would be easy for me to “buy my way” to looking uber, however, it’s not my thing. I would prefer to “earn” everything in-game. I don’t mean I am going to start running CoF SC’s non-stop. I mean that if I want something, I am going to farm/play until I gain enough gold to purchase enough gems to buy what I want.
The only real problem with this plan is that I can buy 200 gems for [X] gold now, but when I actually get enough gold to buy it, the price per 200 has gone up to [X x2]. The inflation rate is slow-ish, but steady, making me seriously think about buying my gems rather than earning them.
That’s when the game becomes un-fun. I hope that at some point, ANet looks at the exchange rate and makes up its mind that happy people are more important than their wallets… however, I don’t think they will do that any more than I think the passenger pigeon will come back from extinction.
Regardless of what ANet “could” or “should” do, I generally agree with the fact that there are a few things that they could implement that would make the PvP in the game so much more appealing. Right now all we have is what amounts to the old RA from GW1 and Zerg vs. Zerg.
In my personal opinion, (and only mine) I think that GvG would be better than arenas.
Cheers
I dont really think you can implement something like that, with out the diversity GW1 had to offer. There is only so many times zerging in larger (wvw) or smaller (5v5) is interesting. The only thing that changes is the scale not the strategy.
And you can not implement Dueling or Arenas, simply because of how grossly kiting and ranged classes overshadow melee classes.
I am not saying Dueling or “Arena” fighting… I am saying Guild vs Guild. 1v1 wouldn’t work for exactly the reson you cite. GvG would be more of a concerted effort by a guild to have a well-rounded team capable of battling another well-rounded team from another guild.
Right now, the only reason to belong to a guild is to socialize and gain influence for the rewards… Guild hopping (or collecting) is a hobby for some. There is no reason to be “loyal” to guilds like there use to be in GW1. Guild Pride is almost non-existant in most cases (note: Not all guilds are included in this group.)
In my opinion (and I can only speak for MY opinion) I think GvG would be a boon, not a detriment.

I think it’s great that y’all did this.
I am on the fence, tho, as I see both sides. It’s fun, it’s a great way to meet new people and hone skills, but it isn’t what WvWvW was meant to accomplish.
With that being said, maybe the devs will get the hint that we need something like this in the system. Even Rift had an open world 1v1 dueling concept that allowed you to duke it out to your heart’s content with your best friend.
ok… how about this….
Since they glorify the idea of nobody being in set “roles” in a group (i.e. every class can damage, every class can heal, no Trinity, etc…) why don’t they just let us mix and match armors? I am sure we could come up with some EPIC looking combinations taking pieces from all 3 types of armor. Just let us choose our skins .
Female Norn clothie Tier 2.
:D
I’m all for new armor…At lvl 80, full exotics (karma) light armor, the skins are all the same… Whether you get it from Arah, or Grenth, or Melandru….
It would have been much better (opinion alert) if each one had their own “special” armor. Something “growing” for melandu, and “deathly” for Grenth, and maybe something like a Battle Mage for Balthazar, but sadly, no… they’re all the same.
I do hope they put in more skins, but I also hope they don’t make them so that anyone can buy them. I would rather be able to see some guy in Uber Super Skin Plate Armor and absolutely KNOW he earned it.
I wish I could see what the “real” level of another player is. When you click on someone, it only shows what “effective” level they are playing at.
I wish I could preview someone else’s armor that I like so I knew what to look for.
I wish I could self-target so I could see what my status looks like to someone else.
I wish we could dye weapons, or at least parts of them
I wish we could “build” a weapon like we could in GW1…for instance, take a Super Sword of Ghost Killing and replace the hilt with an Uber hilt to turn it into an Uber Sword of Ghost killing, changing it’s base attributes such as adding power instead of healing, etc…
and Finally, I wish we could zoom in just a little farther to see our character’s face without having to back up against the scenery to make the camera get a nice close-up
Just a few annoyances from my point of view…
please, for the love of all that is GW2, no…..
No, I’m sorry, but while it sounds good on paper, there are logistical issues that would make the change very difficult. For instance: Cultural Armor…It’s a lot of money to spend and not have use of after you change races. It would aslo involve a “makeover ticket” because the features you have are not the features of your “new” race, such as going from Sylvari to Charr.
Much better to start a new character of your chosen “new” race and have the fun of experiencing the whole culture from lvl 1 to lvl 80.
So, my answer would be…
-1
My list:
1. Last Represented. I don’t care how often my members log in. I want to know how long they’ve been away from the guild.
2. editable MoTD
3. Bulk Mailing according to tag (i.e. all officers, all members, all recruits, etc.)
4. MoTD to pop up in chat every time you either log in, or if you’re not representing, upon representing the guild.
5. A “notes” column to be able to tag “On vacation” or “computer down” or whatnot so as not to get kicked for non-participation
6. a chat pop-up when members either log in or start representing
7. (I heard it said somewhere that this is a future possibility) A Guild Hall
8. Actual GvG
9. A “guild search” tool to see if there is a guild named [whatever]
10. (personal wish alert) In-game guild calendar – it would only have to be for a week ahead so those who do not go to the website can see upcoming events… but I know this is just a dream, so…
All of what the OP said, plus the MotD needs to pop into the chat box when members log on or switch to repping.
Absolutely! Although all our members know that there is a Guild Message, it would be nice to have it pop into their chat upon log-in so that they can scan it and note changes immediately instead of depending on them to open the guild menu to see.
(While we’re at it, can we get a pop-up message in chat when a members signs in and out?)
Map indicators would be nice…to a point… I kind ofl ike the idea of discovery, so maybe with a mechanic of not being able to “see” the portal until you’ve been through it would be better.
I don’t think Joko could have “recruited” the newly-free Risen, however, I do get a sense that maybe the Order of Whispers are using them for intel, as the Risen could easily slip into and out of Elona (as undead) and report back to the Whispers as payment for being freed. It might explain how the whispers have information about Joko that would otherwise be “lost”
but, then again, I am just theorizing, and have no evidence to back it up.
My biggest complaint about them are the two in the low-level areas of Wayfarer’s…
There are two, relatively close to each other (near the north entrance of the Dredge mine and ion the path to the Wolf Shrine) that seem to be too high of a level for the area.
What I mean is that although the knockdowns are annoying, the damage they do is (in my opinion) too high for the levels that travel the area. If you make a new character, you have no choice but to get “in range” of these two, and all it takes is 2 hits and you’re out. Even if you’re at the edge of their range, you can be killed before you know which direction it’s coming from, more or less.
It’s simply not fun. Not to mention, the one by the mines is always faced outward, toward the path to the Snow Leopard Shrine, where young characters have no choice but to go inside its range to get there.
I don’t know about anyone else, but dying so soon after making a character, and in such a way as to have little to no defense against it is simply not something I want to do, especially if building a “survivor” character.
NA player on an EU server… I can only get one character to load at all. I can log in fine, and select multiple characters, but every single one excet a lowbie thief will not load. It’s like they’re stuck between worlds or something.
What’s up with that?
Please, for all that is Holy… Leave the elves for Tolkien…..
The races of GW2 are actually known in other novels.
Charr – The Pride of Chanur (C. J. Cherryh)
Sylvari – Sylvan races of every fantasy ever written
Human – duh
Norn – Any Nordic fantasy, such as the Thor graphic novels
Asura – Depending on which elf story you read, some are described eerily like Asura. Even the Harry Potter house elves look like Asura more than the Sylvan races pictured in Tolkien.
If I were given the opportunity to create a playable race for GW2 that fits in the lore, I would pick either the Hecket or an Elemental of some sort… or maybe Mursaat ;-)
I’ve been playing since the very beginning (BWE1) and in all that time, I have had 1 Abyss drop.
On my main, who is a dye collector, I have almost 300 dyes so far, and no celestial, no midnight ice, and only one abyss since way back in the beginning.
I hate Orr as well, but for a different reason.
I don’t mind mobs everywhere. It hones my abilities when I have to use them all the time.
What I hate is the view! Everything in Orr looks like the bottom of an ill-tended aquarium. It’s dark, it’s slimy, and the only landscape features of note are broken pottery-style ruins and garish fake coral. The whole island looks like someone forgot to clean the fish tank for about 250 years.
Mob density could be a toned down a bit, but otherwise, I just cant stand the look of the palce.
Big Norn warrior I saw named “Insert Name Here”
and a human named “Yet Another Alt”
but my favorite from Beta was still this human mesmer named “Manly Butterflies”
I play Super Adventure Box now
pathetic get a life
I just did. Cost me a few baubles but it was worth it.
Absolutely best forum post evah! (cleaning the coffee from the keyboard)
Cheers!
There’s a leaderboard?
The point of that sentence is that many of us simply do not care. If there’s someone who has every achievement point possible running around bragging about it, or showing off his shiney new title, I truly do not give a kitten.
I play this game because I enjoy it. Not because I want to play tag with someone who has more points than me. I have played since launch. I am sure that someone who starts tomorrow will eventually pass me up in AP.
And again, I truly do not care. Funny thing is that there’s a lot of “me’s” out there.
Weapon: Scythe
Prefix: BananaYou can’t tell it’s a joke? :P
Actually, many of us have a banana scythe in GW1…
But if they DID bring out a dervish profession, I would bet it won’t be until they “expand” into Elona. IF that ever happens.
All 5 races share “The Mists.” Sending someone “into the mists” is saying you’re going to kill them.
If The Mists exist, then logic dictates that UW and FoW exist as well.
The Behemoth comes from the UW, as do shades, bone fiends, and yes, to some extent, The Risen.
Unfortunately, the only evidence I have found in my exploration that would allow for such a trip is the ruins of ToA at the bottom of the swamp in Queensdale. I have yet to find the corresponding “Chantry of Secrets.” Having said that, it would only be reasonable that we wouldn’t have found it yet, because we don’t have access to Elona.
If they do bring the UW online, I agree with Se Dos Cavalos. Make it hard! We (I, me, yo, moi) don’t want to be led through it by my nose, so to speak.
Who knows? we may yet see it.
It kind of seems like I have heard it elsewhere…vaguely familiar.
It would bejust like the kids at ANet to come up with something like that. I wonder what in-game things it will lead to for tomorrow….
:D
Playing….
I check forums after my eyes start bleeding in-game….once in a while… if I haven’t nodded off in my chair…
First, let me explain my take on RNG…
RNG: Random Number Generator – Bane to crafters, treasure hunters and farmers everywhere, it determines how often a “rare” item or high-end mats drop.
If something has a 5% chance of dropping, it doesn’t mean that if you open 100 chests, that it should at least drop 5 times. What it means is that there is a 5% chance EVERY TIME you open the chest.
For instance: Back when we played table top games (yes, I am old,) there was something called a Percentile Die. Every time you rolled it you had the exact same chance that a particular number would come up. You didn’t “remove” a rolled number from the dice so that you had a better chance to get the desired number next time.
We don’t know exactly what the chance of getting a skin may be, but the RNG gods have determined that one person will hit it 600 times before they get what they want, and another will hit it on the first try. It’s all in the numbers.
Hope that explains RNG a bit for those who are unfamiliar.
Now, as for getting keys, I would rather they be added to loot tables more dependably and removed from the Gem Shop completely. I would have rather seen the skins themselves in the gem shop. Just a personal opinion.
