HA! …and they say y’all don’t read the forums!
jk
I still love this thread!!!!
ok…
This is not the first thread concerning the have’s and the have not’s. I am absolutely sure it won’t be the last.
For purposes of this post, the term “casual” will be meant to group those with small amounts of time together, and not to mean that the group has no skills. I have seen many extremely skilled “casuals.”
Personally, I think everyone who has ever played the “old style” MMOs should take off their rose-colored glasses and remember the relentless grind for even minor upgrades. “casual players” didn’t exist much then, because at the time, all “casual” meant was that they didn’t have the time to do the grind, or do the raid that took 6 hours (or more) to get mediocre rewards that barely got them to the next level.
Some games gave you decent rewards, but in order to use them you had to be level (insert insane number here.) I remember one in particular that had 150 levels, but the “quests” that would level you ran out at level 65. Every level after that was a grind.
And for those of you who remember EQ1, once you left the “beginner” zone, it was go to A and kill B until you reach level C and then go to D, rinse and repeat.
As MMOs evolved, more rewards were given and less grind, but still there is grind in almost every game on the market.
So-called “casuals” cannot compete in any of them.
The biggest difference in THIS game is that people who do not have hours upon hours to play every day can still get decent gear and be competitive. One doesn’t absolutely NEED Ascended gear, or Legendary Weapons in order to play the game at level 80.
The grind is reserved for those who want that extra bit of style, or that extra 10% advantage in WvW. If you’re not willing to work (grind or buy) for it (even if it takes months) then you don’t deserve it. Period.
I refuse to “grind.” I play maybe an hour a day, with a bit more on the weekends. I can count on one hand the times I’ve run a dungeon, and I have never set foot in Fractals. I have full exotics on all my 80’s and I have a few nice things I have paid for. I love WvW, and I am one of the few forum denizens that seem to like the LS. I will be the first to say I am relatively casual (it took me 6 months to get my first level 80,) and I will also be the first to say that I don’t deserve an Ascended or Legendary because I am not willing to put in the time or effort it takes to get one.
One thing I won’t do is come to the forums and complain that player X has more shineys than I do because he has more time to play than I do. I can get those shineys too, but it will take me longer.
So what?
I have wanted that staff since I first saw it….
Now I have one….the easy way…
Cheers!
I love this thread…..
Cheers!
@OP:
It all depends on your definition of “compete”….
If you are speaking of the things you are able to do, and do well, then no, I must disagree with you. You can be “competitive” with karma armor, drops, and crafting (which can be done WITHOUT buying gems.)
What you can’t do is run top-end fractals, and have the latest, greatest gear for your character.
What this means in practice is that you truly don’t have to spend a single dollar in the gem shop in order to do pretty much anything in the game. Literally everything in the game RIGHT NOW is do-able in Exotics or even Rares. Until they come out with something that actually requires ascended gear, it’s just not necessary.
If you want that extra 5-7% damage or if you want to be able to stand around in LA and play “look at me” then you’ll have to shell out some dough. Whether that be by in-game grinding until you wear out your keyboard, or by dropping a c-note in the gem shop is up to you.
um… are you part Cheshire Cat?
They addressed this earlier in the year when they first instituted guesting. If I remember correctly, it has to do with the physical location of each region’s servers, and the way they’re networked.
At this point, they are unable to make it so that your account is on both regional databases.
Whether this will change in the future or not is anybody’s guess, but at this point in time, it doesn’t look very likely.
Right now the only way to play with both regions is to purchase that 2nd account.
While a lot of us are unhappy with this development, especially since many of us planned our guilds with full guesting ability in mind, we are happy that we can at least guest to other servers in our region.
Good luck to you.
My simple answer is “Yes” I am having fun.
THe more complex answer is “Most of the time” but, I have bouts of boredom. This boredom is not the game’s fault, I just get bored sometimes. It would be the same for any other game I have played. Give it a couple days, and I will be having fun again.
Sometimes I think we mistake burnout for boredom. Take a break, go outside (gasp!) or try something else. When you come back to GW2, and you still don’t like it, then a few days’ rest isn’t going to help you.
@OP:
Unfortunately, the farm route is the most visible. The largest example of which is the Scarlet invasions. Time and time again, I see people yell out in map chat, “Hurry and get this stage done so we can farm Captains!” Nobody wants to finish the event.
Why? Because the rewards do not match the effort. It is far more profitable to farm Captains than it is to finish the event.
This is the crux of the problem. As long as the rewards for an activity do not match the effort put into it, people will find other things to do. Think about it… Why should I go do event X that takes an hour only to get a few silver and a couple of greens and blues when I can go farm champs in FGS for the same amount of time and get roughly 20 times what I would have gotten from the event? I say 20 times because I can literally kill 20 champs in an hour, and get a couple of blues and a green or two with the occasional yellow for EACH CHAMPION.
Unfortunately, until ANet fixes that problem the people will farm champs or run the “easy gold” dungeon paths.
On the other hand, if you want to do other things, I see a lot of people calling out things to do in map chat in LA. There’s a couple of guilds that give a yell for guild missions and treks, and a few other people calling for different dungeons (not just the farms.) There are guilds out there who do things together (gasp!) and they are active on my server.
You didn’t say which region you are in, but if you are in NA, then by all means, whisper me in-game (same account name) annd we’ll group up.
My Norn Necro….she’s a ball to play.
But I am very happy that we don’t have to choose. I love all my alts…especially my up-and-coming human thief (lvl 53)
In the immortal words of Arte Johnson:
Veddy Interesting!
I got one precursor in my history of playing GW2, and then it was totally by accident. I was opening gearboxes and not paying attention until one of the items I was salvaging popped one of those warnings (thank you ANet!!) I looked at it before I salvaged and it was the Energizer. Sold it…I have no reason to keep it. Not looking to get a legendary.
Cheers!
I’d even settle for a Harry Blackstone one…
This would be a good thing… ad more facial hair options to any race that uses them.
Cheers!
The krait did exist in Factions (in a way) They were called Naga (same form, same basic professions.) and they had similar appearances. The biggest difference is the origins. I don’t know where the Naga originated, but the krait didn’t appear until the unnamed sea elder dragon forced them out of their preferred environments.
It will be interesting to see what happens next.
This vid has been around since beta… It’s hilarious!!!
We begged for an /airplane emote then as well.
I wish they would…. I would love to see everyone running around in LA playing follow the leader with airplane wings…
I still think Scarlet is a figment of our collective imagination, controlled by whatever entity we will eventually face.
As for Abbadon, what if Kormir finally couldn’t contain Abbadon’s power within her soul and the “bad” energy absorbed all the “good” energy and corrupted Kormir. The reason that the human gods have been silent for so long is that Kormir has kept them bound, sapping their power in order to “heal” for the last 251 years.
Now that Kormir’s stronger, she has released a terrible illusion (Scarlet) to irritate us and give us a false sense of security.
We’ll end up fighting Kormir until we are assailed by the “unnamed water elder dragon” that is being quietly forgotten except in a small wiki article:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Deep_sea_dragon
I believe Scarlett is Trahearne’s ex-wife (A woman scorned and all that.)
Either that or she doesn’t really exist (Mesmer trick) and that the “real” enemy is yet to be revealed.
What if the tower really doesn’t exist? It’s all in our minds….Scarlet is a figment as well…Abbadon didn’t die, and he “made” Scarlet to irritate the kitten out of us until he was ready to come blow us up….
So, if you use cauldrons or megalasers, it would just go through it and destroy the people on the other side…
ok…no more coffee…beginning to imagine things….
I never have performance related lag… I usually only get a spike or two here and there depending on how many people are in my immediate map area.
Today was different. I was getting odd lag spikes everywhere. First, my minimap never rezzed, so I waypointed somewhere else. It took forever, and then my minimap still didn’t rez properly for a long time.
Then I opened the BLT window, and it took forever to change screens.
Then I went to QD to do SB and my skills lagged so bad that I was honestly surprised that I got anything from the encounter, as I was afraid that none of them hit.
So I went over to FGS to do some train farm and I couldn’t even participate because the lag was so bad. When Jormag popped, I had to leave the zone because I just couldn’t keep up.
Not sure if this is a server wide thing or just something with my system, but having had no lag whatsoever in the past, it was kind of disconcerting.
Cheers!
Skins: An armor skin is transmutable onto any like piece, i.e. any medium glove skin is usable on any other glove skin, with a few exceptions (should tell you in the description.) The gem store skins you mentioned are class independent, so you can use the toxic mantle on any shoulder piece regardless of heavy, medium or light. Once you use a skin you can in turn use that piece to transmute another of the same type, unless it is a one-time use skin, which again, it will tell you in the description.
Townclothes and costumes: These are usually whole outfits that replace the town clothing slots. They are not armor, and you will be bereft of benefits should you use them in battle. There is a toggle in your hero panel that switches between town clothing and armor. Unfortunately, you can’t transmute them onto armor. This is sad, because many times the town clothes look better than the armor, (i.e. I would kill to be able to use the Bloody Prince outfit as armor skins. ) I almost never wear townclothes, even in town, so I will probably never buy them.
Hope this helps.
Most of my characters are female, but I do have a couple of male characters as well.
I like the options for female. More hair options, more faces, more body styles. My only wish is that I would have loved tattoo options for Humans. Norn have tattoos and woads, Charr have “spots,” Sylvari have skin patterns, and Asura has skin patterns. Human got nuttin, hunny….
Cheers!

There is a new map set up for GvG-type play releasing very soon, I understand. =)

I would love to be able to dye weapons. At least parts of them.
This is why the LS sucks.
It’s pretty clear Anet wants kids to play it more than adults because that’s were the money is. Hence why there is also a lack of content that requires high levels of organization to complete.
First off, kids are not where the money is. Most of them need to ask their parents or face losing their cell phones for a week.
I have my own income. My income is such that I have “disposable” income. Saying the money is with all the kids is incorrect.
For the record, I do remember punch cards… and I remember using them when they became obsolete to help my daughter make artsy-craftsy angels out of them.
Cheers!
Not nerfing the bags, but nerfing their location. champion should spawn randomly and there should be a limit of people killing them. Why so?
1. Too much reward for something that can’t fail…etc.
2. It’s bad for new players…etc.
3. What’s the point of those dynamic events and other zones like Orr? …etc.
4. The economy, people complain about precursors being 800g… etc.
So yea, I think the champions should scale with the number of people. Exemple if it’s more than 10, then it could become harder by adding those ‘elite mobs’ . This would make open world harder if there 15 people , they will have to fight 10 elite mobs and 1 champion. Or they could simply spawn randomly on the map to avoid the whole zerg train farming them.
I edited your post to make it shorter. I will endeavor to answer earnestly since you posted with an honest opinion.
1. Actually it can fail. I have seen people go without chests for champ kills. Also, the rewards are not “too much” for no effort. In general, champ kills give mats and a few greens or blues. Anyone who tells you that they’re making “hundreds” of gold a day is lying through their teeth. Either that or they’re doing something other than farming the champ train.
2. I agree to a point, but not because of the reasons you cite. New players are not informed as to what the Champ Trains are, and tend to get yelled at by the vets. Bad first impressions can never be undone. It still has nothing to do with the champ train, though. It’s an attitude thing that should be handled separately as Anet did with the forums. My advice is report anyone who acts like an idiot because their precious farm got interrupted.
3. They’re in existence because the vast majority of the players are not farming. They’re out there playing. This goes for all the zones. If, as you seem to think, everyone is farming, there would be overflows and queues in Q’dal and FGS 24/7.
4. People were complaining when they were 200g, and they’ll complain when they’re 1200g. The price isn’t going up because of farming. The price is going up because it’s what the market will bear. When people stop paying for an 800g item, there will be no more 800g items.
On the surface, your idea isn’t too bad. More difficult mobs would mean more loot, but then again, that would defeat the purpose of adding them, right?
If they were to make them spawn randomly, then the zerg will follow. Why would having them spawn randomly have any impact? The only difference would be that there would be more map chat consisting of people linking waypoints. All it would do in the end is slow the zerg down by 30-45 seconds.
Anet has already nerfed the currency and some of the drops such as dust. There really doesn’t need to be any more nerfs. It sounds, honestly that you had a bad experience with the zerg, and you’re looking for an outlet. I do hope you take a look at your reasoning and see that the only person any of this affects is you…and then only as long as you personally are bothered by other people having fun this way.

I hate when people say this. when RPGs didnt even have levels at first. Tabletops—>MUDs—->First MMORPGs
again levels wasnt always part of RPGs. so thats not something that can define something that wasnt always part of them.
um… I don’t know what tabletop games you played, but I clearly remember rolling my die and /facepalming in frustration because my little magic user was ONLY level 14…
@ the OP:
You are indeed correct. Levels segregate the player community. Levels also keep new players from killing themselves on content they can’t handle. Levels also give you a sense of direction and yes, a sense of pride. It’s healthy to be happy that you made it to level ______.
For theoretical sake, let’s look at an imaginary game where you would have no levels.
How would one have a sense of progression? How would you determine that a zone was for “end game” capable characters? How would one keep brand new players from content that is so far above them that they would quit in frustration before spending another dime in your game?
The best example of the problems one has with no “levels” exists in the form of WvW.
Anyone who has ever rolled a character and went to WvW at level 2 (the level you are when you finish the beginning tutorial area) would be immediately killed by someone who was at the top of their game with BiS gear. If that were the only thing you were allowed to do as a new character, you would probably quit very quickly thinking that you had no chance against people who have gear/traits/skills much better than yours.
Levels are not necessarily a bad thing. Segregation is not necessarily a bad thing.
So, the answer is yes, you are correct. But, one can be correct and still be wrong.
First of all let me say that I am much more experienced with Eles than Mesmers.
In my experience, mesmers are great at 80, but getting them there is an excercise in frustration. I can tell you I have started over with Mes more than I can count, but I have only had one ele.
Elementalists are not known for their survivability, but they’re not as fragile as one would believe. If traited properly, they can really rock. I can switch attunements on the fly, adding support or damage as needed, and the inability to switch weapons in combat doesn’t really bother me.
The best advice I could ever give to anyone is to make one of each, play them both at least to level 25, and see how you like the style. Keep in mind that neither of them will be at their peak performance until much later, but eles just seem to be much easier to level. Mesmers just don’t seem to have much in the way of the necessary tools until they can be more fully fleshed out.
Also, for comparison, make a Necro. They’re a lot of fun, and leveling them is very easy if you go the minion route. WvW opponents seem to hate them as well.
Cheers from the Old Lady!
I have never seen her.
Don’t get me wrong, I have been near her many times… but the particle effects and a zerg makes it so that I am only able to see her nameplate above the mess.
Yenn, I don’t agree about a cooldown on changing reps. I would hate to think I couldn’t pop over to my mule guild and quickly change back to my real guild.
But, the other things mentioned are good suggestions. All of them have been posted numerous times in the suggestion forum, and all of them have been buried inside of a week.
Unfortunately, I think this thread will be moved to “suggestions” first, and like the rest, fade into history.
Please ANet… Go dig up all the “We need Guild Tools” threads and read them?
I love to sit and watch people. Recently, I have seen a few good names running around LA.
There was a ranger named Pierced Brosnan with a drake named Remington
a caster of some sort (didn’t check) named Handsin Upockets
and a GS warrior named Betmines Bigger
I read the whole thread, and while I have my own opinions about whether or not ‘zerker gear was intended, I don’t think ’zerker gear is always the best.
I do have a set of ‘zerker gear for those confrontations that require direct DPS spam until dead, but there’s a lot of run-of-the-mill champs and vets that now have the “defiant” boon that makes ’zerker gear less than optimal. I also run Rabid gear, PVT gear, and pure condi gear. Everything depends on the encounter.
The real issue isn’t the gear, it’s the idea that some people have that it is the ONLY gear you need, and that it’s better than all the rest. It has it’s place, but it’s becoming increasingly useless in a lot of encounters.
SB is the only one that happens with now though, all the other world bosses were buffed so that it takes at least a few minutes to down them. Golem mk. 2 was the most well done IMHO.
I did get to participate in that one, and yes, it has been well done. But the fact remains that you really don’t have to be in sync with the rest of the people to be able to succeed. You can run in on the fly and get into the battle without knowing who is on first, so to speak. Only Teq requires some active coordination and planning at this point. I am hoping as they upgrade the rest, we will see some more events that take a bit more than running in, spamming your DPS skills and staying out of the way of the boss.
Inculpatus, I don’t think it was de-activated because of non-participation. I think it has to do with the change in IP.
I will begin traveling soon, and I would like to know the answer to this question as well. If I connect through a provider that is not my “home” provider, is my account going to be deactivated as well?
I, for one, would like to know if there’s a workaround for this.
Dungeon requires organisation, I agree. Skill, nope.
Dungeon takes 5 friends to be organised. A champ farm organises 10+ random players.
Finally someone who saw the light. Open world content is very skillful, demands massive organization and is very time consuming.
um….make that some open world content.
The large events such kittenterer, Jormag, and a few others takes some coordination, yes, but in general, someone can run in and do their part without being part of a “group” and get some ok rewards.
Tequatl is a whole other animal, so to speak. Problems aside, those that successfully battle Teq are organized. One has to know what they’re doing in order to be a part of it, and one or two people who aren’t where they’re supposed to be, doing what they’re supposed to do can cause the whole thing to fail. One of the biggest examples of this is one inexperienced or afk person on a turret.
The rest of the “world events” are basically zergs that bring the bosses down in less time than it takes to zone in and tag them.
In any case, with the chest/box nerf, some of the “lesser” events simply aren’t worth hauling kitten to get to. If you happen to be there when it pops, go for it, but if someone says “Hey, SB is up,” and you’re halfway across the zone, you’ll never make it before it’s gone, and if you do run to catch him, you might get a few blues or greens, and not much else.
Edit: Seriously? they censored the big dragon in Blazeridge Steppes? Begins with S? ok…funny, but wrong…lol
(edited by Ashabhi.1365)
Great picture…except that the placement of the owl looks like you’re laying an egg….lol
Nice looking Charr, as well.
There are a LOT of “revelaling” armor in the game (ever seen Human Med. Female T3?) but yes, i agree. Charr armor isn’t the bext for showing off your character customization.
Good luck to you!
It will be interesting to see the results. Please do post.
He/she might be waiting for the right character. While the rewards may be account bound, everyone has a “favorite” and he/she may not have found his/hers yet.
There should be no reason not to open them, and there shouldn’t be any “stealth nerfs” to AP chests because nothing in them is game-breaking, and to my knowledge, none of it is saleable, so it shouln’t hurt the economy (such as it is) so go ahead… open them…or not… your choice.
Also, keep in mind that if you are a guild leader (even a solo or account only guild,) anything you have worked for in your guild will not transfer. All influence, guild perks, upgrades and any “tweaking” you have done will be gone. You will essentially have to start over.
I’ve posted this before in other “RNG is Terribad” threads, but I will so so again, because it seems that some of the posters really don’t understand the way RNG works.
If there is a one in 4,367,891,297 chance that you will get a certain drop, then it doesn’t mean you will get one if you try that many times. It means you have a 1 in 4,367,891,297 chance every time you try.
To put it in simpler terms: If you have a 6-sided die, and you’re trying for the #6, and you roll that die 200 times, you have the same 1 in 6 chance every time you roll the die. If you roll a #4, it is not removed from the equation for the next roll, and it doesn’t increase the odds that you will get the #6… Depending on your skill and luck (the real RNG issue) you could conceivably roll 200 times and not ever get a 6 while at the same time getting 100+ 4’s.
Unfortunately, when you couple insane odds with someone personal “luck” you end up with those who get what they want all the time and those, like me who have been here since launch and usually get crapola.
It’s not the RNG itself that needs tweaked, in my opinion. It’s the odds that form the basis of the RNG algorithm.
As for getting an $800 item after spending $200? Not a fair comparison. The odds have never changed…only the prices people have placed on the items. Months ago, that $800 item was only $200.
As for me, I refuse to participate. I don’t need a precursor or legendary, so personally, I’m not too worried about it.
Good luck to everyone who is…
(edited by Ashabhi.1365)
Let’s look at this from a different approach…
(Opinion alert!)
Anet doesn’t want people to farm ungodly amounts of gold on any activity. There are’t enough gold sinks in the game, and the TP is proof that the amount of currency in-game already is causing a spiral of farm/spend OCD. The only way to reduce the amount of gold in game other than stopping gem→gold conversion is to reduce the amount gained through in-world events or farming.
Yes, it is an attempt to make people buy their gold through them via the gem shop, but for those who do not, gaining gems through in-game gold is almost prohibitively expensive.
I believe it’s because they let the economy got away from them. Back in the early days of the game, there were ways to make more money than what you could ever spend in your lifetime. Prices of “things” went up because there was the money to be able to buy them.
Well, here we are months later, and the currency supply is such that new players will never afford to buy anything worth a kitten unless they buy gems. Good for ANet, bad for those who want to not use the gem shop.
So, in the end, I don’t think there will be a “sweet spot” to farm. Any time someone finds one, ANet will be along to nerf it until such time that the economy is back under their control.
Good luck to everyone.
I am a WP user. I am usually late for someone’s event, a guild thing, or dungeon run, so WP is the mose expedient way.
Having said that, my main mode of leveling new characters is walking. It seems I don’t WP until I am at least level 30. I have seen some absolutely gorgeous areas, and I have done events that I am pretty sure that I am the only one who has done them in a long time. Walking is definitely the way to go to level.
Cheers!
I love the southern half of Lornars Pass… I could spend a lot of time there, just wandering around. It’s beautiful with an alpine rather than an arctic vibe.
With all this “I want it all right now with no effort” mentality,
Of course I don’t want to put effort in. It’s a freaking game! I just want to play a game and enjoy myself and not have to worry about anything.
Effort and work and skill are for the real world. I don’t want to work in a game because that’s not supposed to be the point of a game.
I love how you ignore the rest of the post that says something about the nerf itself jump on something that is clearly my own opinion.
If, as you say, you don’t want to put forth any effort, then by all means, play the way you want, but don’t expect to have things handed to you. There is a lot of exotics out there that only require a wallet. If you want to have legendary or ascended gear, be prepared to work for them.
We all knew the nerfs were going to come. With all the raging in the forums, it was inevitable.
The thread is about non-cummunication. I do agree wholeheartedly that they should have said something before the nerf.
The part that was my opinion merely expressed my belief (only mine) that a lot of the threads in the forum are nothing more than a whine. Possibly (probably) even mine.
ok… so… they nerfed it.
So what? the reduction in gold is going to cost you an extra month of farming? You’ll find something else to grind?
All they nerfed was the actual coinage, which there wasn’t much of anyways. The mats and items still make a nice profit, but unlike adding currency to the game, they just move it around and remove a bit (i.e. people purchase mats/items and then use them. Money isn’t created, just moved around.) This isn’t necessarily bad for the game. Things are already so expensive that new players will never catch up. Removing some currency from the game is a good thing.
I will be the first in line to say that they should have posted something in the patch notes, but seriously…I don’t think this is as bad as all the doom and gloom people think it will be.
All I see are people complaining that now it’s going to take a bit longer to get what they want. With all this “I want it all right now with no effort” mentality, I am surprised that any of you are still playing at all.
Good Gravy…get over it.
Thanks for the information. I have been known to ride the train, so to speak while waiting for something else such as a temple run or WvW, but other than that, it’s definitely not something I wish to spend more than a few hours a week on.
Hope you feel better soon! I only spent 2 weeks on crutches, and I will never ever ever ever laugh when I hear about someone doing something stupid and spraining an ankle ever ever again…(no… will not say what I did…ever…)
Haha thanks bro.
Thing is i dont know what to do. Maybe starting to watch a new show. 2 weeks at least to go…
I spent my two weeks going for a title…almost done now, but the last thing I have to do is the proverbial kitten of the bunch…
back OT:
Is there another zone other than Q’dale that has events tied to their champs? I’d like to see about getting mid-range mats, and complete events as well…
You bring some good arguments, and I could see how you came to these conclusions, but I must disagree slightly.
Although the traits really do need to be tweaked, if you go too far, you would either run the risk of making elementalists extremely OP or completely useless.
One would also be able to see that there would be more polarizing builds, and more “leet” idiots who want specific builds or your ele is out in the cold, so to speak.
There is already a bit of this going on, as I have seen people who play the “L2P” card when they see that certain ele’s aren’t running d/d zerker (example.)
If Anet took your advice the builds would actually be more pigeonholed than they are now.
$60 for the box, 2 server transfers @ 1800 gems each and roughly $50 since launch for transmute crystals and the occasional shiney (love the broom!) Other than that, everything I have bought from the gem shop has come from in-game gold.
I have a personal preference for Ele, but mostly because I am extremely familiar with it. The rotations are easy for me, but I will be the first to say that I am squishy as hell and have to stay well back and support rather than front-line in your face melee as some do.
What little experience I have had with Guardian has been fun, but I don’t know enough to tell you which is more viable.
The best thing you can do is play the one you are more comfortable with, or, as an alternative, learn both well and take the one you need to fit with the group you’re with.
Cheers!
