[merged] Will race change be available ever?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ashabhi.1365

It seems that people are saying ANET is lazy/incompetent because they would rather not re-write the entire game code while it is too hard to use a character slot to level up a preferred race. Am I missing something?

^^This

If you took the time to level a race to 80, don’t you think that you would have found you wanted something else long before 80?

Seriously…it seems to me that people are just wanting a race change because they don’t want to put the time and effort into starting a new character.

Now who’s lazy? It’s not like it takes forever to level a new character.

I hope they never implement race change.

One of my early ones:

I hate Orr as well, but for a different reason.

I don’t mind mobs everywhere. It hones my abilities when I have to use them all the time.

What I hate is the view! Everything in Orr looks like the bottom of an ill-tended aquarium. It’s dark, it’s slimy, and the only landscape features of note are broken pottery-style ruins and garish fake coral. The whole island looks like someone forgot to clean the fish tank for about 250 years.

Mob density could be a toned down a bit, but otherwise, I just cant stand the look of the place.

MMO gaming: Females vs Males

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashabhi.1365

Ashabhi.1365

I would say that has more to do with the maturity of the playerbase rather than the females vs males itself. Mature people don’t really make a difference between a male player and a female player.

lol, right.

Pretty true, actually. I’ve always been an openly female gamer and used female avatars for years, but I’ve never been showered obsessively with gifts.

Wondering what I’m doing wrong :P It may be that I keep too much sensible, mature company.

This ^ Where am I going wrong??
In my years of gaming, I have seen Men who role-play girls get far more “gifts” than us real females. They clearly are better at “clueless” than me

I want to know what I am doing wrong too- I mean my account name is Morrigan- and all my characters are female- I never hide that I am a woman.
I get nothing.

Me either… and I’ve been playing since before Pong….

Here I am… I’m female… When do the gifts supposedly show up?

oh…wait… I know how to play… Never mind… false alarm…

Have you ever been in another MMO where a company took away an item that one group of players bought at the request of another group of players like this?
/endsnip

No, but I did play one where 3 years after release they began to sell something in the cash shop for a pittance that formerly was only available through a time-gated massively expensive process.

After an outpouring similar to this one, the company basically said “Too bad, so sad,” and ignored everyone’s complaints. The game lost over half of their playerbase in about 3 weeks. I am sure they had more people that signed up after the exodus, but the rest of us were screwed.

ANet has said what they are going to do, and until I see what ANet comes up with, I am holding off agreeing to hate them for this one.

Ashabhi…it’s not that simple at all. MANY factors and grey areas to consider. simply scroll up and read my latest post for example.

I did read your post, and I do understand that you went through a lot in anticipation of getting something that you cannot now have. Unfortunately for you, this was your choice. Nobody told you to go make a new character with the idea that you could get a particular skin.

Look at it this way:

Hypothetically speaking, let’s say I saw a new car in the showroom at my local dealer. I wanted the car badly enough that I bought one, and put a deposit on another, and built a high-end, ultra modern garage in anticipation of receiving the 2nd.

After selling a number of the cars, they found out that the parent car company that built the cars were using their profits for illegal operations, and the government made it illegal to own the car. So they took all of them out of the dealerships immediately.

Next they contacted everyone who ever bought one and told them that they can’t have it any more, but they can use it until they get a suitable replacement, and that if they’re unhappy with the replacement, they can have a full refund.

I can still use the garage and probably will because I spent time, energy and money to get it, but I can’t have that car. The car company is not going to reimburse me the cost of building the garage.

As for replacing my now-illegal car, I have a choice. I can be happy with the replacement that they eventually give me, or I can take the refund. It doesn’t matter how much I love the car, I can’t keep it, and no amount of screaming is going to change that.

It’s really not that much different here. People have spent time, energy and money to get a skin they can no longer have once a replacement is offered. If they are unhappy with the replacement, then they’ll get a refund. Although the extent of that refund is yet to be determined, they did say a full refund in the official post.

There’s no way Anet is going to refund anything that anyone spent in anticipation of getting something they can’t have now.

I do hope they find an equitable solution. I also hope that they find a way to give those who want a refund a way to revert their armor to whatever skin they were using when they transmuted the T3 skin onto it.

I just don’t think that people in general have the right to ask anything more than what they spent on the actual product. Transmutation Splitters shouldn’t be necessary if they revert the player’s armor to the last skin they were showing.

Everything else that was done in anticipation of getting the new skin was a choice on the part of the player, and not ANet’s fault. They shouldn’t have to pay for it any more than I would make the car dealer to pay for my unneeded garage.

(getting out the marshmallows for the flames that are sure to come my way)

stop repeating again false informations..

They never said they can give back exactly what we had…..and what we heard from support says they won t.

1. Anet screwed up.
2. People complained.
3. Anet came up with a solution that half the people like and half the people don’t.
4. Nobody’s lost anything yet.

Can we move on now?

No we can t

half people are losing a lot….
You don t understand what….WHY are you here?

I do understand that people have paid for something that they aren’t going to get to keep, and I also understand that ANet said they would give a full refund. Until they actually give out refunds that don’t “make one whole” we have yet to actually lose anything.

Those that bought the skins get to keep them until the “new and improved” skin comes out. If they don’t like it, they get a refund. It’s that simple.

However, until Anet actually does anything about it, all that’s happened right now is that the new skin has been removed from the TP. Those who bought it aren’t out anything at all until such time as ANet implements the new skins and implements a plan to reimburse those that were harmed…

I do feel bad for the people who like the skin and wish to keep it, but I also feel that if they wanted the Human T3 skin, then they should have rolled Human.

Yes, it was a horrid mistake on ANet’s part, and I am not happy with them for doing it, but I prefer to see what they come up with before condemning them for all eternity as some seemed to have done.

If we’re talking about a reskin here, I think that the karma armor (forget what it’s called) from Sparkfly would be a decent candidate. First, there’s not a lot of people who have it to begin with, and the way it’s made would lend itself to flames pretty well.

The biggest difference between what they did with Human T3 and making new models from old ideas is that people have been asking for GW1 skins from day 1.

Face it. GW1 had some decent skins. There’s nothing in GW2 that can compare to some of them. I would kill to see my Norn Ritualist armor in the game for light armor wearers. Or Elite Kurzick/Luxon Monk. Or Asuran Elementalist.

Human T3 was already in the game, so putting out a reskin was obvious. (not even going to touch “right or wrong” here.) GW1 skins aren’t really there, but I think a variation of them could be great.

Its not really the same. It is more comprehensive

Actually it’s true, everyone and their Quaggans’ gone jellymad because of the cultural t3 rip off and nobody noticed that the other 2 also are rip offs… But maybe ANet hopes that all the noise about the cultural and defenders who don’t know how to defend them in that, will make that go unnoticed…

It wouldn’t have mattered which race it was. If Charr T3 armor, or Asuran, or Norn or Sylvari armor was the model, there would have been the same outpouring of hate and discontent.

Reskins are a fact of life. Look how many weapons are reskins of other weapons. The other two were rip-offs of something that any person, regardless of race could get with karma. Only the light was a T3 armor.

First of all, I personally believe that (eventually) removing all of the new skins was the only equitable solution. Don’t get me wrong. I do sympathize with everyone who bought the skin. It is a good one, and I do hope that Anet comes up with some kind of reimbursement that works. It’s just that debating on who should keep it and who shouldn’t serves nothing but to inflame more arguments about perceived racial entitlement vs. getting something you paid for.

The fact of the matter remains that we don’t know what ANet is going to do yet. Telling us what they are going to do while letting those who have already bought the skins keep them until they come up with something else is a stalling procedure, and not necessarily a bad one. That way they can try to come up with something that everyone is willing to accept without alienating anyone any more than they already have. I think we should wait before we all get our pitchforks out of mothballs.

Letting Humans keep the skins they bought might sound like a good idea, but if they did that, then those who bought the skins and aren’t Human will be alienated. Letting everyone keep the skins they bought would alienate the Humans. Removing them from the game completely without replacing them would alienate everyone who bought the skins regardless of race. Even if the racial factor wasn’t an issue, letting skins stay in the game that should never have been allowed in the first place serves as a reminder of the snafu to everyone. They can’t win no matter which they do, so I think they are taking the path that causes the least amount of hate and discontent.

TL;DR:
Give them a chance to redeem themselves and make it right before we start to condemn them for something that hasn’t happened yet.

You know, everyone talks about how much they hate Scarlet. Funny…isn’t that what the devs want?

Hear me out: They’ve thrown a villain at us that is cartoonish, silly, and really doesn’t DO anything other than have her minions (ahem…alliances) fight for her. In a way, she’s just a superfluous figurehead. But, she has galvanized most of the rest of us into hating her, and wanting to see her dead by increasingly cruel means.

Scarlet needs to have her story fleshed out a bit, and she could be a great villain. Finally, when we get to the last chapter in her living story, everyone in the entire game is going to willingly complete it, just to see her die. And, if it’s an instance, they’ll do it repeatedly…

So, in a sense they have accomplished exactly what they were going for with her. We all hate her, or at least most of us do.

No,… everyone hates the Lanister, but we love how well developed those characters are. Not the same hate we have for Scarlet.

First, no… Not everyone hates the Lannister. There are some who genuinely like parts of them.

Secondly, I never said it was the same type of hate. All I said is that if the mission was to make everyone in the game hate her, then they accomplished it well.

Whether they will refund the moneys used to pay for those gems is probably going to be on a case by case basis between Customer Service and the customer.

From what they said, wait until they come out with the replacement. Then, if you’re not happy, send a request to Support and go from there.

Actually, no. You chose your race. If it’s low enough, liquidate, delete and start another. If it’s a high level, then you should have had the foresight long before you reached level (X) to know if you like it.

I can understand changing your looks, gender and name. But changing your race involves a lot of backstory (racial themes in the PS chain etc…) that would necessarily have to change as well.

Anyone else notice that some of the people wanting the Flamekissed light skin are the same races that have said “Leave my (insert racial armor here) alone!!!”

For the Nth time, it’s not the price or seeing other races in the Human armor. It’s the fact that nobody else was impacted. Only the Humans. I would almost guarantee you that if it were (only) Charr T3 (or any other race,) that the complaints would have been just as loud, and just as numerous.

If Anet had released every set of T3 armor to the TP, it wold have been wholly different.

I am pleased with the way they handled it. I am not going to complain about something I haven’t seen yet.

Sorry to all the…wait…no, I’m not sorry… If you bought it, and had it taken away, you’re going to get something else (hopefully it will be as great.) Removing Race Restrictions on Cultural Armors

in Suggestions

Posted by: Ashabhi.1365

Ashabhi.1365

If they had “cultural” armor that was available to all races from the very beginning, then we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

However, what they did in the beginning was to create separate, unique armor for each of the races. Then they made the highest tier of that armor prohibitively expensive (for a lot of people) so that it was obvious when you saw someone in it that they had made a lot of money and put forth some effort in getting it (even if the effort involved a credit card.)

So now we have individuals running around in Human T3 armor from the gem shop. (Yes, I know it’s temporary.) In general, I don’t mind that I saw a Norn with Human armor. The issue I had was never that it was in the TP. The issue I had was that Humans were singled out.

The thing is that ANet designed the game with racial armor, so that’s the way it should stay. If they had designed the game with the idea that every race could get every armor, then I would agree with the OP.

ok, people… about the TOS…

I asked a lawyer friend (in EU, not USA) and she said that even though it’s not a legal and binding document in some countries, the fact that you digitally “agreed” to it makes it binding for you, and is terribly difficult to dispute solely based upon regional law. There would have to be something more fraudulent involved before many law professionals would take the case.

As far as this situation, I was one of the people on the angry side of the fence. I can say with some certainty that it wasn’t the fact that T3 armor was available in the TP so much as it was the idea that only the Humans were affected. There were many posts that said rather than take the human T3 out, put the rest in, which was immediately answered with angry posts from other “races” about how it was ok to put Humans in, but “you better not touch (insert race here) armor.”

In my opinion, the solution that ANet came up with was far more preferential than what they could have said.

Enjoy your armor for a while, OP, and then if you don’t like the replacement, get your gems back. If you want your Real Money back then take it up with Customer Service. The forums can’t help you there.

Of course they have…

but the implementation deliberately harms a subset of the playerbase.

IF they offered all T3 skins, it still would have been upsetting, but it would have been more equitable for everyone. As it is, they didn’t do that. They simple sold out one type (clothies) of one race (Humans.)

Yes, it will be an immensely popular item for people to get on their non-humans…still doesn’t make it right.

It’s not that the “new” T3 look is cheaper than the Cultural set. It’s the fact that the set was, until yesterday, unique to Humans. Anyone can have it now.

The analogy in real life would be similar to having your favorite grandmother take a lot of time and effort to make you a quilt that is special and only for you…only to have her start mass producing almost the exact same quilt for anyone to buy. All of a sudden your quilt isn’t so special any more, and it makes you feel like maybe you’re not so special either.

Oooh… Remind me to tread lightly when it comes to Sister Liz’s libations….

I finally recovered enough to set out toward Divinity’s Reach. It was obvious that I wasn’t going to be able to find this friendly krait, so having to trek back to DR in order to take the gate back to LA and tell Berta I failed was tingeing the beauty of Queensdale with a shade of disappointment.

Almost to Shaemoor Garrison, I heard some skritt ramblings about a krait actually bowing to the “Windmill King.” The old skritt was a tad off, but if he wanted to be the Windmill King, he wasn’t hurting anyone. In any case, since it was on the way, I figured I would stop in and see if he would “hear me.”

When I got there, it was obvious that the krait had talked to him, as he was fairly giddy with the “power” he had over the krait and he was more than willing to brag about it. He told me that the krait had gone in search of other “Windmill Kings” and was last seen heading to Shaemoor Fields.

So, like a moth to a flame, I had to see if the krait was still there. I had come too far not to try.

As I got closer, there were people staring and pointing. I followed their gaze and lo and behold! There was a krait! Hoping against hope this was the krait I had left my hearth to find, I cautiously approached and waved. This was going to be easierr than I thought.

“Are you the krait that is looking to be friends with humans?”

He turned toward me. “Yessss” was what he said.

Relief flooded over me.

“Thank the Spirits! I have been all over Divinity’s Reach and Queensdale to find you!”

He smiled… I think…

“My name is Ella Cynder. Berta, my cousin is the President of the Shiverpeaks chapter of the Tyrian Welcome Wagon. She chose me to come find you and welcome you to Tyria.” I handed him a small pack. “Inside you’ll find a map of the area, instructions on how to use the Asura Gates, and a coupon book good for discounts at Two-Ters in Lion’s Arch. There is also an invitation to come visit Hoelbrak, the home city of the Norn race, which I am one of.” I looked at his cold blooded body and added, “You’ll have to bring your own supplemental body heat.”

We talked for an hour or more, and I found that he simply got tired of killing humans, so he thought he would come ashore and see if he could make friends. He thanked me, and of all things….he hugged me. Definitely a strange sensation.

I left him knowing that of all the krait in the world, Krait was one I could call a Friend.

I briefly stopped by LA to see Berta and report that I had succeeded, and promptly resigned from the organization. I waved, and FINALLY got to go home to my hearth. Maybe Krait will come see me someday.

I had the most wonderful visit with my dear friend Kosmo in Beetletun. We hit the pub and shared war stories and complained about aches and pains one gets when they’re over…that age…

Alas, it was not to last long. I had to find this krait, and he had a wife and kids to get back to.

Kosmo did say that the krait had been in town and got into some sort of altercation about the graffiti that seems to be all over the place in town. He reassured me that the krait didn’t do any of it, though, so I guess that’s a good thing. He also told me to head to the Monastery and talk to Sister Liz. She might know something.

So, I made the trip and found Sister Liz in the tap room. (hic) and see shed…I mean she said that see hadn’t (hic) seen him, but I might try, you know, the swamp, cuz wit him bein’ a kr… a krait (hic) and all, he might like water… I like beer better…and Lister Sidge…I mean Sister Liz (hic) makes some ghood stuffus… I think I’ll call forth a few minimums… er… miniliems…(sigh) minions (giggle) and relax here a bit while they wooks for it…(hic) Say herro to mah widdle friendssss…Ooh. I sounded likes a Krait…trails off laughing

Well, after waiting around all night, I decided to take it upon myself to ask around and see if anyone had heard any more news about the “friendly krait” in DR. Well into my search, I found a Charr who was headed back to the Black Citadel with supplies. He said that there was a big commotion in DR about it and that I really should make the trip over.

It seems that try as I might, I can’t seem to stay out of the human city. I hope I don’t step on one… They kind of squish..like grape ((apologies to Mr. Miyagi))

Eventually, after being extremely careful for what seems like hours, I finally came across a couple of children at the circus who knew a bit more than hearsay. They sent me to the Ringmaster’s wife at the Big Tent because she supposedly saw it all.

Sure enough, she said that she had seen a couple of kids and an extremely agitated woman with a set of beautiful carving knives chase the krait out into the Queensdale countryside.

Good gravy…Not only do I have to traipse around the human city, now I have to go camping in their farmland. Could this day get any worse?

Well, as I found out, yes, it could. Turns out this krait is also a thief. I paid off the breadmaker (no, I don’t know why) and then paid her a bit more to gain something more useful. She said she heard that there was a krait sighted in Beetletun a short time ago.

At least Beetletun isn’t as loud and obnoxious as the human city and LA. Besides. I have an old friend there.

Before everyone says " ’Zerker is the only build for PvE" keep in mind, that the zerker zergs are out there farming. In order to get your hits in and get credit, yes, ’zerker gear is the way to go.

It’s not the only way. Without a “trinity” I am not bound by a specific role. I can actually do a number of things I would not be able to do if I were pigeonholed into a specific role.

Good luck to you!

Divinity’s Reach, not Lion’s Arch.

Anyway, this thread had made me wish ANet would let a few krait defect from their racial norms and try to make peace with the rest of the races. They’re a cool race, and it would be even cooler to have one as a friend!!

((I realize that he’s in DR. I even mentioned it…but you never know…he may come back because krait are water creatures and there’s just not a lot of water in DR.))

My first impression with the list is…

meh…

I may be in the minority, but I like GW2…a lot….I am not looking for the “next big thing” to move on to. It would have to be something pretty darned special for me to get excited over anything else.

I was happily retired and living with my husband in Lornars when I got a message from Berta, my cousin.

She said I needed to go to LA, of all places. I hate LA. It’s a city. Too many buildings and sewers and people… all the people… just ew…

Anyway, when I got there and found her, she said something about the krait needing directions and trying to see the circus in DR blah blah blah, but her stupid beetle pet whatever kept getting in the way. I have no patience any more. Whet the heck am I doing here?

Anyway, I finally made a decision. I became what I used to be and now I am hanging out in the back alleys and waterways of LA to see if I can find this krait before someone makes sashimi out of it.
