Try explaining why and how the mechanic works in open chat. I know about it, but never knew how it worked or why it worked until this event, and a very helpful (normally WvW) commander helped me out.
A small aside: Yes, the buffs help a lot, but it is still doable without Might stacking, which I think may be responsible for some people not listening.
I’ve done it as many times in OF as I have in Main server.
Wurm
I’ve only been there once, and the whole of map chat was filled with “Just do the _ wurm for the reward and ignore the other two…”
Not really conducive to even attempting the whole of the event.
I do hope that when the Marionette ends, people will pay more attention to the Wurms.
Marionette
The good:
1. Relatively little organization required. Even those who show up at the last minute can get in on the fight with relatively little prep.
2. Challenging fights with fun mechanics requiring more than spamming 11111161111…
3. Great to see other lanes cheering on the lane on the platforms
The bad:
1. Unless someone fails the chain, one can only get to the platforms once (maybe twice if they start in L1.) I understand the sickness timer, but I think it’s a bit long.
2. One platform can’t help another. Sometimes the chain event fails because a platform only has 1 or 2 people in it, while the other 4 platforms can only watch in horror as the players lay dead on the platform.
3. The portals could be open a bit longer to allow more people to make it from the entrance to the lanes up to the portals. It might alleviate some of the problems with empty platforms as well.
The story:
The good:
1. Finally, a reason to not hate Scarlet any more than we already do, and to understand a bit why she was here.
2. The promise of something BIG eventually.
The bad:
1. boooooooooooring execution
2. unclear objectives… “Go to LA and talk to ____” then what? Oh, yeah, it’s on the UI in the corner…if I click on it… Why didn’t (insert NPC) tell me?
All in all, I like this update, but I fear that once people have their meta achievements, it will be empty.
Even though the bosses don’t change, you can’t guarantee that you will get a group of people on the platform that are experienced. I know what to do, and I have explained to a lot of folks, but the truth is that if you get even 1 person on the platform with you that has a) never done it, b) knows what to do but is inexperienced, or c) doesn’t care what they’ve been told, the chain event will fail.
Personally, I find Boss 3 more difficult than 2, but that’s a personal thing.
In the attempts I have been involved with on JQ, it has been pretty good. Yes, there’s a few idiots who have to wave their e-kittens and call people whatever, but in general, there’s a group of us who get there early, explain the mechanics and terminology to the new players, and so far, of the ones I have been there for, we have succeeded 4 out of 5 times.
While Dulfy and Wiki are great resources, expecting people to go outside the game for information is somehow wrong. By all means, tell people about them, but it’s so much easier to simply explain what’s going on and organize. In the end, it’s a lot of fun, and the folks who are trolling fade away after a few posts sans responses.
Oh, and to the OP:
To avoid getting forum infractions, you might want to edit your screenie to cover up names. I think there’s a rule about posting actual in-game names of players.
I am beginning to think the ire and hatred that the players have/had for Scarlet is something that Anet has cultivated.
Finally, E. I think we’ve only heard of her twice from her (as a player). And she seemed to know a lot with ‘circumstances preventing her from stopping it herself’. So lets throw this out there. What if E is the last bit of Sanity left inside Scarlet, trying to help the players before her madness retakes over?
I like the idea behind this theory, but I don’t think so. I think that E is someone who is working closely with Scarlet and is now realizing that what she is doing (and what she has done) is going to be catastrophic for the races. Therefore, they are trying to help without Scarlet’s knowledge.
There is always the possibility that there never was a Scarlet and she’s been an illusion (literally) perpetrated by (insert evildoer here) in order to interact with Tyria and cause chaos while it prepares to “awaken”…
A profanity filter is like a burglar alarm. It does what it does. But, relying on it to the exclusion of everything else will cause issues down the road.
Case in point: the OP’s title.
I know that here in the forums the filter can be quite funny.
/snip
Complete waste of time.
I wouldn’t have minded so much except that I didn’t even really get any loot.
/end snip
I suspect this is the true reason you didn’t like it.
/snip
…they have absolutely no chance of getting the living story reward in the two-week time limit.
/endsnip
As far as we know, this chapter is lasting longer than 2 weeks…or did you not read the dev’s posts?
/snip
But now these super-hard Tequatl-style bosses are blocking progress in the temporary content, and it means players like me are left in the dust.
/endsnip
What you are actually saying is that:
a. The content is too hard for you
b. There’s not enough loot for you
c. Anet should ignore everyone who enjoys hard content because you don’t like it.
I am a casual player. I have a life. I will never be able to get Ascended gear (and don’t really care to, either,) and I have no desire to get a legendary (right now.)
I am enjoying the hell out of these new encounters, and I hope ANet makes more like the Marionette.
What I am saying is that you do not speak for ALL casual players, and I take offense that you would say you are speaking on my behalf simply because you do not like the content.
Good day…
How about together with this new Ineptitude condition, we get another one.
This new x2 condition should be called: Elitism
It basically works like this.
Every time your critical hits become glancing blows, you get 1 stack of Elitism debuff. Every time you successfully evade and get hit by a glancing blow you get 1 stack of Elitism. For every stack of Elitism on you, you loose 1000hp up to a maximum of 25% of your HP bar.
If you successfully manage to kill your opponent while having a full stack of Elitism (25), you get to insult the looser scum for 15 minutes without fearing a ban.
On a different note. At least try to play all professions before starting to suggest stuff to the devs to do
I lol’d! Thank you for that.
I must admit, that when I first read the title, I thought it was a light-hearted joke post. Instead, as a suggestion, it seems that it might be a neat addition, but before they add something like this, I would much rather see them make sure some of the other conditions were repaired and adjusted to work as intended.
Cheers!
…about the Marionette battle
When I finish a chain battle, why is it we have a “portal sickness” timer? I can go help defend another lane, but I can’t go back in to help with the chain fights for up to 5 minutes, which means I only get one shot.
I would think that some folks go in early (lane 1 or 2) and then more or less get the “why?” thing and just give up for the rest.
A suggestion: Please shorten the timer a little or give us a counter to it? I really would like to try for the chain battle more than once per encounter…
A couple of thoughts about what I took away from the first posted pictures:
1. Most of the drawings are what she has already done:
a. The alliances (one possibly unseen so far?)
b. The Tower (not actually a palm tree…more like a tower with some sort of power at the top, like a cartoon version of a radio antenna)
c. The flying dolyak (more of a representation of taking living beings and adding mechanical components)
2. The screens show what is to come:
a. a multi-pronged attack on the Orders and LA
b. The thumpers calling “something” from underground (all she’s raised so far is the 3-headed wurm)
c. Hatred for whatever dragon is on the ceiling, as evidenced by the controlled beginning of the illustration and the utter lack of control by the time she drew the hind end
So, in the end, I feel like she is preparing for a fight against something that has yet to make an appearance, and she’s willing to use the existing races of Tyria and all they have built as her lab rats.
I can hardly wait to see what comes next
Why do we think it’s Lions Arch??
I can’t speak for anyone else, but there was a screenshot (and I use the term lightly) of a broken Asura Gate that looked suspiciously like the one for the Humans at the hub in LA.
Having said that, if they rearrange LA, there is that other set of gates that they have been slowly “repairing” since the beginning of the game. I have noticed that some of the less complete alternate gates have now been completed, as well. When that happened is anyone’s guess, but I saw them when I was doing LA completion on an alt. Some have even posted that at reset every day, they glow like the regular gates, but I forget where they posted it.
My thoughts on the matter are that if it’s a new dragon, then it could lay waste to a lot of territory if it were to rise. Look at the Dragonbrand. It covers a swath from the north of the map all the way to the Crystal Desert.
I can hardly wait!
It’s not the same. At all. Most W3’ers don’t give a darn for achievements or Legendaries. Most just want to win the match.
And having PvE’ers all over the map doing their own thing means we have fewer numbers.
And that makes it a lot harder to win the match.
Because our numbers are smaller than theirs.
Because of world completion.
I don’t know how to be any clearer…
I am not disputing your reasoning, as it is quite sound, although I don’t know if “most” WvWers is quite correct. I am sure that quite a lot of them would want the shineys just as much as any PvEer, if given the same opportunities geared toward WvW.
The point I was actually trying to make was that the OP and some others with the same opinion think that it’s ok for PvEers to want WvW taken out of the requirement, but that WvWers who do want the shineys should still have to do the PvE maps, which is hardly equitable for them.
My own opinion is that WvW and PvE should be utterly independent of each other and that opportunities to obtain items and achievements should be available to both aspects. Unfortunately, they are tied together as they exist now, and asking for one aspect to be removed for only one side of the PvE vs. WvW issue is no less elitist than any other sense of entitlement.
@ the OP:
Yes, this is your opinion, and I am absolutely sure you speak the truth when you say others feel as you do.
In response, I say that this is a LS chapter and it will be over soon, and on to another one. As far as the Jungle Wurm, it will be permanent, but you are not in any way required to do it.
Now, let me address your points individually.
Too much waiting around
If you watch the Map chat, there are some good people trying to organize. The time passes relatively quickly for me simply be paying attention to the chat.
Too much annoyance concerning Overflows (paraphrased)
Yes, trying to pick the “right Overflow” can be an issue. Personally, I recommend getting there a bit earlier than you usually do, and seeing if you can get a party in the “right” overflow and then “join” them.
Too much failure
Many things were difficult when you first learned them. AC dungeon used to take 3 hours to run. Now a 30 minute run is considered a long time. Learn the encounter, and along with everyone else, you will find that completion gets easier.
Too little reward when you fail
This is one I have a hard time with. I have a personal opinion that if you get any reward at all when you fail, then it only encourages you to fail more. I do think the rewards when you succeed need to be tweaked up a bit, but rewarding people for failure is simply wrong. I think we’re getting more than enough when we lose.
Keep at it for a few more tries, and try to get a good bunch. I would bet that as it gets a bit easier, that you will find it’s not quite as annoying as it was for you.
Good luck!
The biggest (and most maddening, by far) problem that I have with this whole issue is that the OP (and others with the same opinion) cannot seem to tolerate those who think general PvE is being forced upon them.
Think about it… How is it different for a strictly WvW player to have to do all the PvE maps (of which there are a LOT more) in order for them to get their world completion achievement and/or their Gift?
Oh, and before you say “Because blahblahblah…,” it isn’t. It’s exactly the same, except that those who are purely WvW players have a lot more territory to try to cover doing something they hate.
I reiterate: If you want the achievement (or just the Gift for the legendary) be prepared to do a few things you can’t stand to get it. The same rules for everyone!
um… buh bye?
See you in the morning!
I agree with 2 of the posted suggestions:
1. After you kill your champ on the platforms, allow the barriers to fall and go help others on their platforms. If I am in a full platform, and my neighbor has 1 or 2 people, it will fail as it is now.
2. Make entry to the portal automatic. I ran to the portal, and evidently passed the point where you had to hit “F.” I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong, and realized I had to back up to just the right spot in order for the “enter portal” mechanic activated.
Other than that, I had a blast.
15K mesmer armor from Marhan’s Grotto…
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Mesmer_Elite_Rogue_armor_f.jpg
just don’t look at the example colors… they kinda look silly.
Speaking from a purely PvE standpoint:
All I know is that if I were to try to take my zerker elementalist to WvW as she is right now, she would be nothing more than exp for the other team.
As Peetee said, there will always be a mechanic where every good build will be situationally better than every other good build. The key will be finding the one that performs better for you in the most situations.
Zerker Glass Cannon builds are godly in PvE right now, because most mob AI is clunky, predictable and slow. The goal is to kill it before it breeds, so to speak, so DPS is naturally going to be king. The sad part is that with the new ferocity/crit changes, those who have never tried anything but the ZGC build will be here in the forums complaining about how the “game iz ruined and I’ma gonna /ragequit nao!”
So, try new things and if it’s cheesy, so be it.
I think the tags are fine. Just give us the option of turning them off.
Truly, the only time I have issues is when they all stand on a waypoint… makes it hard to click, but not impossible, so I can deal.
(From a mostly PvE perspective:)
I’ve tried sPvP. The matches are actually quite fun. They’re fast paced, and relatively exciting.
The problems I had, and the biggest reason I have fr not returning is the difficulty of getting into beginning matches, especially if I want to be on a team with some of my friends who have more experience than I do.
I have been playing this game since beta 1 and I still don’t know hot to get into a match and play with a team of friends.
If they had a mechanic in which I could be absolutely sure that I can be on the same team as my guildies and friends, I would return and try it again. Of course, this could be something already implemented, but if so, I didn’t hear about it.
The trinity in other games meant standing around for long periods of time looking for tanks and healers. It also meant that those who play “healing classes” but chose to spec for damage or general support (buffs, CC, DoTs) were kicked as soon as the group leader found out that Cleric A was a Battle Cleric and not a Healbot.
I see no good that could come from making the trinity a viable mechanic in GW2. Mesmers, Rangers, Thieves, and Engineers would immediately become obsolete without a complete rework. Everyone would be Warriors, Guardians and Eles. Damage and Toughness/Vitality would become “king” and poor Necros would simply fade away, as they don’t do enough damage to DPS, and they don’t have enough health to tank.
I would much rather see support roles that actually mean something other than standing around waiting for the DPSers to wear down the boss so they can get in a couple of hits in order to get some sort of reward. As much as everyone dislikes the upcoming nerf to zerker gear, people are going to have to think for themselves and make some new builds. Maybe a new playstyle will come of this.
So pretty much what everyone has interpreted, i want to give my own thoughts. It can be good to see what other think and you can open up your mind further to maybe find new things in the text.
Thump, Thump. Time to jump.
(The pillars which are spread out in all zones will cause earthquakes)
Very well could be. Earthquakes can definitely change the face of Tyria permanently.
Wipe all resistance from your mind
(Skypirates, Dredge and other enemies etc is now not a threat to us now)
Actually, I think this may be more of a way of saying that instead of fighting her, we’re supposed to have to work with her to defeat this new menace.
There’s a secret deep below to find
(Something underground which is hidden. Probably a monster)
Or maybe a new dungeon?
If you’d only seen the things I’ve seen
(Something Scarlet have seen but not the other Sylvari)
Remember that Scarlet doesn’t see things the way we do. We may have already seen what she has, but interpreted it much differently.
You’d wake up screaming from The Dream
(Something dreadful is threatening Tyria. Which Scarlet has seen in The Dream i guess.)
The few times I have tried rolling a Sylvari, I spent a lot of time in the beginner area before killing the dream dragon thing. There’s actually a lot going on there. She may not be talking about the nightmare dragon at all.
This next part will sting, but it brings me joy
(Scarlet is a psycho and uses this monster to her advantage)Sometimes to change you must destroy
(Scarlet want to destroy The Pale Tree and ruin The Dream, for goodness(?))
I put these two parts of the verse together because they seem to mean something different than when read separately. To me it means that she is going to try to bring about massive change by destruction of the old. In other words, the thumpers are hers after all. In destroying the existing world, it will bring attention to whatever evil she seems to think we need to help her with.
A fire is rising you cannot contain
(A mighty dreadful power which will consume Tyria)
Agreed, but which kind? Fire brings to mind Primordus, Destroyers, and the Charr Flamekeepers of old Tyria. Remember, that according to GW1 lore, Fire is the physical embodiment of the Charr god.
Tyria will burn, while I remain.
(This monster is either controlled by Scarlet or in some way she will transfer the monster’s power to herself)
Either that or she will be safely tucked away from the destruction so she can re-emerge as a “savior” (even if it’s only in her own mind.)
I can hardly wait to see what happens next, but with all due respect to the developers, I pray that they don’t ruin the beauty that is Tyria. Knock down the buildings, and change the landscape, but please don’t ruin it by making it all look like the middle of Kessex.
As far as naming goes, I think an option would be to use whatever sigil is in the first slot to describe the item, and the second as an ending:
Example:
Apothecary’s Greatsword of Strength + Apothecary’s Greatsword of Frailty=
Strong Apothecary’s Greatsword of Frailty
If the Frailty sigil were in the first slot:
Frail Apothecary’s Greatsword of Strength
Just a suggestion
I don’t post very often, but I will probably lurk the lore forums a little more often after this. I still hold that this post doesn’t necessarily belong in the lore forums since it ties just as much into game mechanics and the living story as it does lore.
Most of your points are assumptions that are still up for debate:
“Nightmare Court are not corrupted Sylvari. " Where is this proven? It seems even if we take away the Mordremoth/Pale Tree connection, we have very little reason to doubt this, as they not only behave similarly to Svanir, but they also never return from the Nightmare/Corruption. (Just like dragon corruption.)
This is true. According to GW1 wiki, the Nightmare court are trying to commit acts of evil so that they can influence the Pale Tree’s morals and make it uniquely Sylvari. They have not been corrupted, just radicalized.
“The seeds which guarded the pale tree were not guarded by minions of Mordremoth.” As far as I know, the only thing that we know is that a plant creature guarded them when Ronin found them, and Mordremoth is a Jungle Dragon.
This is also true, however the GW1 wiki does state that there was more than one. I picture something like Husks.
“In fact, Mordremoth’s existence isn’t even officially recognized.” Not by name, but we are 99% sure that there is a sixth jungle dragon. Even if this dragon isn’t named Mordremoth, it does not affect this theory.
This may be true, but I am personally unsure of the references. The only thing I do know for sure about more dragons is that there is an “unnamed water dragon” in the Deeps that has displaced the Krait.
“The dragon during the Sylvari opening is a dream, not an actual dragon.” It is still a representation of corruption that does not fit any existing dragons. It would be a great coincidence if a plant dragon representing corruption did not correspond in some way to the Jungle Dragon.
I think that the dragon in the Sylvari opening dream sequence is more of a minion, like Teq or the Shatterer. If there is a jungle dragon, I believe this is a more likely scenario.
“None of Scarlet’s attacks have focused anywhere near the Sylvari region. And the upcoming trailer shows her attacking Lornar’s Pass. If her plan was to attack the Pale Tree, someone should get her a map first.”
Scarlet has always been very scattered and omnipresent- that is her nature as a character. The most recent trailer showing an attack on Lornar’s Pass was already confirmed to be a test of her Giant Death Robot™. Its actual purpose is probably nowhere near there, or, as I’ve already said in my original post, its purpose is to make a spectacle of an attack on Lion’s Arch, destroy the Asura Gates, and draw all possible allies there rather than to the Grove.
I think the reason she has not attacked the Grove and the Pale Tree directly is simply a case of not wanting to kitten in her own bed. Whether she likes it or not, this is her home and heritage. Even though she will attack anyone from any race, she is still Sylvari. She may have “feelings” about her home and simply doesn’t want to see it destroyed, or at least may be trying to fix it so that she has a place to go to when it’s all over.
“The logical conclusion is that she is not interested in the Pale Tree at all.”
Please read my thread. I’ve already shown quite clearly that Scarlet has a vested interest in the Pale Tree. In fact, this is the focus of the entire “What Scarlet Saw” story.
Of course she has a vested interest. Like the Nightmare Court, she wants the pale tree to bend to her bidding. I just think she doesn’t have a cohesive plan for it yet. Then again, we don’t know what they have planned for the rest of the story arc.
Personally, I think that if there is a Jungle Dragon, and not simply a minion of an already existing dragon, then Scarlet would have a vested interest in seeing that it doesn’t destroy what she is working for, whatever that may be. This next few chapters of the LS should be interesting to play.
I agree, and not just for Dungeons (hence, I am happy that it’s in the “general” forum.)
Monsters need to be a bit smarter, not just “healthier” or higher burst damage. I wouldn’t even mind an AI where mobs can call others to heal them or support with buffs. I would like to see more with the “downed” condition as well, and have any other mob in the area rush to heal them. Hard content should be hard, not just zergable.
The way things are now, a difficult mob or boss can be overcome quite easily by numbers. I would rather see them strong enough that numbers aren’t as important as tactics.
Actually, this is my favorite GW2 Beta game bug ever:
I wish they would have made it a feature…I would pay real money for it…
Oh, look…. another “Ascended Gear is too hard to get” thread…
I am a casual player. Until I come across something in the game that I am not allowed to do unless I have Ascended gear, I will not pursue it.
Notice I didn’t say “too hard to do without it.” I have yet to find anything that falls into this category either, however, I exclude Fractals because they’re not my thing.
If I ever come across something that is locked out to me because I don’t have (insert gear here) then I will be saying goodbye to the game.
In the meantime, while y’all are out “grinding” for ascended gear, I will be out having fun with my friends.
Cheers!
Easiest way? Whip out that credit card and buy gems to convert to gold.
In-game? I play 1-2 hours a day, and then not every day. I average about 50g with what I make vs. what I spend.
Running events and salvaging/selling the mats makes me about 5-10g a day, depending on what I am selling. It depends on whether or not I am going for volume or quality. If you decide to try one of the champ trains, I can tell you from my experiences (an speaking for nobody else) that I make more from Frostgorge in an hour than I can in Q’dale in roughly twice the time.
One thing to consider: There are seome pretty good looking exotics running around out there. Mix and match your look with transmute crystals (for lvl 80 gear) and see what you come up with. Also, I rather like the Temple armor, although it is relatively expensive with Karma.
Good luck to you!
Edit: One thing that saves me money in the long run is to make Mystic Salvage kits in the Forge. Here’s how you do it: Buy one each of Fine, Journeyman’s and Masters kits from the vendor, toss them along with 3 Mystic Forge Stones into the forge and you get a 250 count Mystic Salvage kit.
Here’s the link explaining MF Stones: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Forge_Stone

While I realize that player housing is a plus for many, I am personally not a fan.
I have played games before with housing, and in general, I ended up spending tons of time decorating and grinding for household items rather than actually playing the game.
What I do endorse, however, is a Hall of Monuments type area in your home instance in which you can show off all your awards, achievements, special trophies and armor, somewhat like GW1.
As far as your concept, again, while it may be a good idea in other games, I just don’t think that spending your time defending your homestead is a good idea in this game. There are already events and zones which are relatively empty due to game design, and it would take even more people out of the general population.
/snip
Teq spawns 12 times per day. Your server does it 25% of the time. Other world bosses are done probably 70-80% of the time.
Mostly because it takes all of 10 minutes to down them….less in the case of SB… In general, people will choose easy every time.
As for this release, I will wait before I pass judgement. No sense in getting all worked up at this stage in the game (no pun intended.)
Sounds like you’ve reached burnout.
Take a break and go play something else for a while. Come back in a while to see what’s changed.
In the meantime, I wish you the best.
Cheers
The Answer is 42….
…and don’t forget your towel…
You, sir, win the internets for the day
@ the OP:
Set it up to patch when you go to bed. Unless you have your PC set to turn off after a half hour of inactivity, it will patch in your sleep. Or, when you go to work/school/whatever…
There are ways to do it. Be a bit patient and you’ll get it.
Welcome to GW2!
Finishing the event is NEVER wrong. Yes, it will irritate the farmers, but if they guested to your server, they can guest to another just as easily.
The best thing you can do is turn off map chat, play the way you want, and report anyone who harasses you after you complete an event.
My opinion about the farmers is “Let them farm.” Finishing events, however, is how the game was meant to be played.
On the other hand, if you’re just killing champs to throw off the train, then, my friend, you are the one who is griefing, and should be reported.
A quick word about Tequatl: Contact TTS (I think that’s their tag…) They organize Teq runs on overflows. Although I have never participated, I have heard they are quite successful.
Good luck to you.
There are many different type bags for inventory that help with auto-sorting.
From the wiki:
Basic — No special properties
Craftsman’s Bags — Looted crafting material is placed here first.
Oiled Packs — Looted junk is placed here first.
Equipment Boxes — Looted weapons and armor are placed here first.
Invisible Bags/Safe Boxes — Items in these bags can be sold neither to merchants nor at the Black Lion Trading Company. They do not move when inventory is sorted. Using ‘Deposit Collectibles’ will not affect items inside invisible bags.
So, in a sense, we already have these functions. As for salvaging, anything rare and above is supposed to pop a warning asking if you’re sure you want to salvage. Anything you sell to an NPC can be bought back immediately for what they paid you for it.
In the end, I understand and kind of like your idea, I just don’t think it’s necessary.
The only thing I do wish is that equipped items go directly to your invisible box/bag when you “unequip” them rather than having to fish them out of the first available slot when you swap weapons.

This again? Must be Tuesday (to paraphrase another poster in another thread…)
I want the Dive Master achievement. I don’t want to have to do jumping puzzles for it. I think JP’s are a waste of time and energy. I think they should be removed from the requirement.
I want the Slayer Title. I don’t want to have to go to Orr and kill Giants to get it. I don’t want to be forced to do something I don’t want to do in order to get my Achievement.
/endsarcasm
I’m sorry. I don’t have sympathy for you. If you don’t want to go to a WvW map, then don’t go. But keep in mind that if you don’t, then you’re not entitled to your 100%.
If you’re only doing it for your Gift, then find something else to do or whip out that credit card and buy your legendary. It’s much better to do that than be forced into doing something you don’t want to do…
post like this are pointless and insulting; people leave games over people like you so stop.
“I’m sorry. I don’t have sympathy for you. If you don’t want to go to a WvW map, then don’t go. But keep in mind that if you don’t, then you’re not entitled to your 100%”
yes they and your just being rude
Apologies for seeming “rude.” It was not my intention. It was late, and I was rather frustrated to read yet another thread on the subject. There are plenty of these threads. I am sure ANet has seen it. Starting a new one isn’t going to get your issue heard any faster.
Having said that, I still maintain that if you want the achievement (or the Gift,) be prepared to do the work to get it.
Asking for the WvW maps to be excluded is like asking for the Gifts you have to buy from Dungeons in order to craft a legendary to be removed. It is all part of it.
Yes, the game is still active, and in my opinion, yes, it’s worth buying.
Just stay away from these forums. They’re quite likely to have you believing the game is dying/thriving, and that there are more/less people than there ever has been, and that people love it/hate it and that Anet cares/doesn’t care about its player base.
In other words, only you can tell f you’ll like it or not. Don’t let other people tell you it’s worth/not worth playing.
This again? Must be Tuesday (to paraphrase another poster in another thread…)

It’s much better to do that than be forced into doing something you don’t want to do…
I like the idea, except for one thing.
I don’t want people to be able to throw some cash at the gem store and change their guild name at will. There are some “less than honorable” guilds out there who would potentially abuse the capability.
I would recommend a couple of solutions to this:
1. Only guilds who have reached a certain rank in Politics (preferably 5) could do it, preventing those who would change in order to troll people from doing it without putting in the effort needed to do it.
2. Make it a one-time thing. If a guild has changed their name, they can’t do it a 2nd time, unless the name they choose is against the EULA.
As I said. I love the idea, but there would definitely need to be some safeguards in place to avoid abuse.
I’d like to know this as well…it’s kind of annoying.
You have to understand that some Asian localities pay for their internet by the minute. Adding a VIP to allow them to maximize their play time is good business sense in those areas.
I don’t think that the “company” is going to slit their own financial wrists by intoducing such a system in a locality that will not accept it.
I do think they will add some of those items to the gem store. They already have the Pavillion for a fee, so what harm would it do to add the rest of the things in the VIP pack? Besides…the potential is there to make much more from individual sales of items (in the “West”) than a one-time thing.
Think of it this way: Would you rather make 100g from the sale of one thing, or would you rather make 10g with the potential for infinite individual sales?
Let’s look at this from a (somewhat) objective viewpoint. I qualify myself as objective because Ascended gear to me is one of those things that I couldn’t really care less whether I get or not.
1. The stat difference: Yes, Ascended has better stats than Exotics. Even if it were a half of a percent better, it would still be higher numbers. That’s the way it is. Whether this slight difference is enough to warrant the grind and expense is entirely up to the individual player.
2. Implementation and grind: Certain things in a game will require grind. In GW2, even before Ascended, there was Legendary grind, Dungeon Armor grind, Mat grind, and Gold grind. Saying there wasn’t grind before is false. In GW1, there were titles, faction, and yes, mats and platinum for high-end skins and weapons (armbraces and ectos, anyone?) Had Ascended gear been included from the very beginning, then I truly believe there wouldn’t be this outcry right now. In any case, it’s here now, and whether we like it or not, we have to deal with it.
3. There is absolutely no content in the game that is locked out to a player if they do not have Ascended gear. Whether a player can complete all of the content open to them without ascended gear is a matter of player ability and content difficulty.
In the end, the OP is correct. There is nothing in the game that absolutely requires Ascended gear in that there is no content that is locked out unless you have it… However, there is some content that is “difficult” enough to make the extra stats and slots useful.
Whether you (generic singular) need Ascended gear is something that only you can decide. If you decide that you need it, then be prepared to deal with the grind, time gating and expense of obtaining it.
(opinion alert!)
People came to these forums and said “Is this all there is?” when they reached 80 and got all decked out in their exotic armor. So, whether it was intended from the start or not, ANet introduced Ascended items, weapons and now armor to give those who were unhappy with the “skin only” brand of end-game something to do.
Now, people are coming to these forums to complain that they got what they asked for. The bulk of the “complaining” for lack of a better word seems to be that A) it’s expensive, as it should be. After all, it’s end game gear, and B) it’s something one can’t have right now. Again, it shouldn’t be “easy,” as it is end game gear and should be worth working toward.
TL;DR:
Whether one likes it or not, Ascended Gear is here to stay. While there is nothing in the game that is off-limits to those who don’t have it, those who want that extra few numbers of damage/defense should be willing to put up with whatever grind and expense there is to get. It is *end game * gear. It should be expensive and arduous to get. It shouldn’t be handed to players just because they whine.
A couple of things we need to consider in this:
1. It’s possible that it is something that is wholly available in-game without the use of cash, such as through achievements (not likely, but possible.) The reson I say this is because after reading the Reddit post in its entirety and seeing the picture ad itself, it looks like there are multiple tiers (20, iirc) and could easily be adapted for something in game to provide “vertical progression” without adding stats.
2. It could very well be something deliberately added to the code for the dataminers so that they’ll be embarrassed when they find it was a joke on them and not true. Kind of a tweak on the nose for looking for things that are not ready for public consumption.
3. It could be something for markets other than the US/EU market (i.e. Asian market)
4. It could be something they were going to add earlier in the game and then scrapped, and somehow didn’t take it out of the finished beta code (not sure how that works, just a thought)
5. If it comes to reality, and involves a credit card only, then like a few others who have posted here, I’m out. As much as I love this game, I will not be prohibited from content simply because I can’t/won’t/don’t want to pay for it.
I think that in general, having a guild title to toggle on or off is a good idea. Not just for Guild Leader, though. Officers and Recruiters could benefit from a simple title that one could turn off and on as needed.
It really shouldn’t make a difference as far as what everyone else sees, as there are tons of titles out there to be had. Having an Officer tag or a Leader tag is no different in theory than having a Commander tag. If one doesn’t want the world to see it, simply turn it off.
I know if I was interested in a group of (insert guild name here) players having a party and wanted to know more about them, and I saw a few with “Officer” or a “Leader” title, I could whisper them directly about information for the guild.
If it were possible to toggle the titles on and off, the leaders and officers could simply turn them off if they don’t want to be bothered.
Ok, so I know it’s a necro thread, but I personally think it’s a nice idea.
I wouldn’t want it too dark, but yes, having more of a differentiation between night and day would be good. Right now, sometimes I can only tell it’s night time when some players’ weapons glow differently.
In my opinion, the forum changes are counter productive and terrible. They do nothing but further alienate the community from the company and cause more PR issues for a once great company.
Using the above post as an example: The question I would have if I were a mod (which I wouldn’t want that job..hats off to those who have the patience,) is “What is alienating the players, and how is it counterproductive?” Details are important. Vague statements don’t do anything to further understanding and cooperation.
I can understand how the poster feels, as I have felt similar about other issues, but not knowing where he’s coming from makes it easier for someone who is more trollish than I am to make comments that are uncalled for and end up derailing threads.
I personally believe this is why they’re being more diligent in their forum moderation.
@Aeonblade: I don’t mean anything personal by this post, I was using your post as an example of vague ideas that simply need to be a bit more fleshed out. No offense intended.
I’ve been having an issue lately that I’m not sure if it’s on my end or yours.
About every 3rd or 4th post I make, whether it’s in the same session or when I come back after being gone a while, causes the entire thread I am posting in to disappear except for my post.
Sometimes when I log back in, the threads are back, but other times they are not. It doesn’t seem to matter which forum I am posting in, or what I am responding to. It seems random.
It also doesn’t seem to matter whether the thread is one page or multiple pages.
Just thought I would let you know. I don’t know if anyone else is having this issue.
