I got a mini Jack-a-lop the very first mini-pack I bought…
down side is that I didn’t know how rare he was and sold him… now he’s worth a small mint
All I can add to this thread is that if you’re grinding, it’s because you choose to grind.
I have no ascended gear. I have no legendary. I still perform well, and I am still able to compete in PvE and WvW (I don’t sPvP, so I have no idea how that would go.) I am having fun without the other stuff. I simply don’t need it.
IF I decide that I want Ascended gear, or a Legendary weapon, then I would be making a conscious decision to get that gear/weapon, and would involve actively pursuing whatever means I needed to take to get it. If that includes grinding, then so be it. I will definitely take the grind they have here over the grind they have elsewhere.
Honestly, if the amount of grind in this game makes you crazy, please stay away from most F2P games. They would cause you to have a coronary.
Yet another “GW2 dying?” thread that only serves to make people who say yes and people who say no argue with one another.
GW2 is not dying. Yes, it has some problems (some bigger than others) and yes there are people leaving. There are also people coming in, and there are also a lot of things GW2 has going for it. It may not be as healthy as it was in the beginning, but that is normal growing pains that every MMO ever released has ever had.
There are indeed empty zones. There are low servers. It happens with any game. Aion went from roughly 30 servers at launch to 3 before it went F2P. Rift went through a massive population exodus in the first 6 months it was out until they added new zones and things for max characters to do. Yes, even WoW goes through the ebb and flow of population.
Right now, there is so much (temporary) content that people are concentrated there, and the rest of the world is relatively ignored. When the LS is dungeon or instance based, people who don’t dungeon crawl will be back out in the zones doing “stuff.”
Only you can decide if you’re happy. If you’re not, check out the other servers, see what else is going on, and if you’re still not satisfied, then go on to something that makes you happy.
Apologies if I sound tired, but this is like the 53,627,816th thread about this since launch. (hyperbole for the win)
[[So far we have 3 of the announced ones disarmed, 3 more found as vegetables by house Darxynuss, and one at the fountain. That’s a total of 7 now. I think ]]
((and don’t forget the “hidden” number 8 that nobody ever finds until it’s almost too late…I think it’s a literary rule or something like that
))
Aside from the examples listed, I play because it’s an escape from real life. I have a stressful job. Until recently, I was caring for an elderly, ill parent (RIP.)
I come to GW2 because it takes me away from life in general for the few hours a week I can get away. AND it costs me nothing more than my time unless I want it to.
In the case of SB, I think the answer is a bit more simple…
Give us more time. Not for the events themselves, because they go down fairly quickly, but when you go to do the pre’s for SB, and you do all of them, you cannot make it back to the swamp for the “main event” is almost over. Unfortunately, in SB’s case, many times he’s down to less than 25% before you can warp/run back to the swamp, especially if the last pre is the one in Tamin Foothills. (Opinion Alert:) I think that if you get to the boss when they’re down too low it affects your rewards, which makes it a waste of time to do.
I think the fix would be that they would either have to be done in order (i.e. one set of portals, then the next pops, and finally the third) and then give a minute or so before the final events start, or barring that, simply give us a short “break” between the pre-events and the SB event.
Nobody (I don’t think) likes to be on their way back from pre-event #3 only to have someone yell “SB’s down!” in map chat before you get there.
In other world boss fights, the problem isn’t so amplified, because most of the pre-events are within a short distance, so you have plenty of time to get to the boss before he gets too low for you to get any rewards.
edit: I didn’t see Astral’s, Peetee’s and Rouven’s posts… sorry for the rehash….

To answer OP’s question as to wether there are any references IN-GAME, I recommend going to the various labs around Crucible of Eternity. Each of those labs is dedicated towards studying one of the Elder Dragons. You don’t even have to enter the dungeon itself.
Thank you.
Nonsense, this unnamed dragon has been named bubbles.
But Bubbles is a well-loved character in a thread that is RP gold….
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Warning-Buoy/first
I am aware that some call him Bubbles, but I was looking for in-game references other than the Karka event.
Can you cite a source on the “jungle dragon”?
The Elder Dragons have risen, and the result is what we see now in Tyria. We all know that (or at least should know something about them.)
They all correspond to Ancient Elements.
Primordus – Fire
Jormag – Ice
Zhaitan – Death
Kralkatorrik – Crystal (could also be interpreted as Earth)
There is a 5th Elder Dragon that represents Water. He doesn’t have a name…. The Wiki says:
“Another dragon awoke in the deepest parts of the seas, creating tentacled horrors from its surrounding. Its awakening forced the krait, quaggan, and largos living in the Unending Ocean to flee north toward Tyria, in many cases forcing them into the path of the risen armies. Little is known of this dragon still.”
source: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Elder_dragons
Also, his/her own page: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Deep_sea_dragon
Has anyone seen any reference to this unnamed water dragon at all in-game?

A super simple solution would be to keep guest as it is now and have you type in OK or Yes on Transfer. A super simple caption you have to interact with in a special way would stop this completely.
I actually like this…
For Guesting, hit the button. I still don’t like the idea of typing the name of the server you want to transfer to, but an interactive text request such as "If you’re sure you wish to transfer permanently blahblahblah, type “yes” here else click the cancel button…." makes it far less likely that you would accidentally click through a transfer.
I’m going to vote Primordus… He’s the “leader” and he was seen in stasis in GW1 in the final battle of EOTN. Lots of fire and lava and all that.
um…no…
This game needs more sinks, if anything. Right now the economy has too much gold in it. Without those sinks, even basic materials like copper and soft wood would be 50s a piece. The more gold in the system, the more people can afford to pay for things. The more people can afford, the more others will charge. It’s a vicious cycle.
If we had a few more gold sinks (significant, not penny ante) maybe the price of things would drop a bit because nobody could afford to buy them at the prices they are now.
Hi, Russ!
I play with people. If they’re a good fit, I ask them if they would like to join. It doesn’t matter if they are already in a guild. Many folks will join 2 or 3 and bounce between them depending on what they’re doing.
I wish you the best of luck… However, I look for a moderator will be along shortly to move this to the Guild Recruitment forum.
Having all the great things that your guild has is great, but there’s a social aspect to a guild that might be something to have fun with, without the overhead of having to accomplish something epic.
How about design a contest for your guild? An example would be an epic scavenger hunt crossing the whole of the known zones. The winner gets a reward or a guild title or whatever else you can imagine.
Have a costume ball or a beach party… sometimes doing nothing is just as fun as doing something.
make a synchronized dance video for your website…
set a goal of making sure everyone in the guild has (X) AP.
Invade LA with your entire guild just to make everyone else go “ooh, aah…”
Just a few relatively “fluffy” ideas from an old elementalist…
1. Farming is a choice. Why do you think that simply playing the game (Personal story, Hearts, DE’s and a dungeon here and there) is not a viable alternative to get to “max level?” It’s not fast, but it’s not “grindy” either.
2. Some people actually like something new to do. Yes, some of the LS content is not as good as others, but it definitely beats sitting around in LA spamming “LFG for FOTM” or “CoFp1” for hours. So what if it’s gone in a couple of weeks? There will be something else in it’s place.
3. GW1 did not have “expansions” except for EOTN. You had your choice of playing one chapter by itself and you didn’t have to buy any of the rest. An expansion requires purchase of the core game to be able to play. EOTN was the only expansion that required that you purchase one of the other games. At this point, we don’t know what the developers have planned for more permanent content in GW2.
4. I personally believe that the PS was/is a means to an end. If you do the PS at the levels recommended, it helps you level your character and gives a bit of a story to the game while you level instead of having you just kill stuff.
5. I agree with you to a point on this one. The DE’s could be bigger and more spread out, though it is nice to be able to participate in shorter chains sometimes.
1) Kasmeer’s
2) Nightmare
3) Final Restpossibly 4) Zodiac. I don’t get the tickets to obtain them, though
I main a Sylvari Mesmer and Final Rest is just epic.
What is the best Staff for an Asuran Elementalist?
In my opinion, either the Glyphic staff, the Mystic staff, or one of the steam-punk looking ones with the little electric chamber (forgot the name)
You might want to edit to hide your paths in your screenshot…Unscrupulous people could use the information to find you.
but yes, I have had this happen as well, and it is funny.
There are so many staff skins that are great, but I divide them into what looks best for which profession.
Necro:
The Crossing
Final Rest
Gnarled Walking Staff from the HoM
Pact Staff
Ele:
Ascended
Emberspire
Guild Pillar
Guard:
Sovreign Pillar
Steam Staff
Whispers Staff
Mesmer:
Peacemaker’s Staff
Nightmare Staff
Mystic Staff
There’s a lot of other skins I like, but I think those are the most appropriate ones for those professions.
I understand what ANet is trying to do. I firmly believe that they think they’re clamping down on gold sellers and spam.
Unfortunately, it’s having the effect of being terribly inconvenient (at best) for the rest of the population.
The problem with lifting the restrictions for older accounts or higher AP is that those are the most likely accounts to get hacked and used for spamming/selling.
I would rather see them implement situational lifting of restrictions. What I mean by situational is that there are a few places where chat and mail suppression is a PITA and should be lifted. These would be:
1. Commanders – like them or hate them, most are competent people who need to communicate quickly with a lot of different people. They need to be able to do so without fear of being limited.
2. Group leaders – As someone said, trying to send food or other consumables to everyone in your group will set off the filter. There’s no reason for it.
3. Guild leaders – A guild leader needs to be able to send newsletters, updates, guild calls, whatever, to everyone in the guild. It shouldn’t take 3 days to notify everyone. Not everybody looks at the MoTD every time they log in.
4. Thank yous – Many times while running with a zerg, or in a large fight, people die…and get rezzed. The nice thing to do is say thanks. Any form of thanks should be exempt. That would include but not be limited to: Thanks, Thank you, Thnx, and TY. (embarrassing but true: Yes, I got suppressed for too many thank you’s one day.)
5. Pinging Waypoints – I just don’t get why this is suppressed in the first place.
I am sure there are other specific situations where suppression should be relaxed, but in general, these are the most important to me.
Actually, the bigger issue here is that you define the game by whether or not you get a precursor. If that is the only reason you’re playing, then maybe you should be looking at that instead of "OMG No Precursor and I deserve one because I’ve played over 9000 hours!!!)
I am right there with you… the big difference between you and me is that I don’t need one to have fun.
Good luck!
I feel your pain, Vayne, but I disagree on a small point.
Typing the name of the server you wish to transfer to would be a good thing, but why not make it a bit simpler?
1. Change the buttons: If the button to confirm a transfer is in the same place as the one to confirm guesting, simply switching their positions would help.
2. Put a 3rd set of buttons agreeing to spend the gems to move after you confirm.
3. change the color of the background – blue for guesting and purple (or some other odd color OTHER than red) for server transfer
The reason I suggest these as an alternative is that for you and me, it’s fine to type, but non-English speakers, or people with conditions such as dyslexia would have trouble typing the lengthy names of some of the servers. Making it simple, but distinguishing the two options would be a much better solution, I believe.
Ok… for those of you who always just have to skip to the last chapter, here’s the story so far:
A young girl named Bubbles who may or may not be an actual mermaid was worried about ships crashing on rocks in the harbor of LA. She began to try to warn the citizens.
Captain Storyteller began an intensive search for her, and developed an emotional attachment during the search, which sent his wife, Adorabelle into a jealous rage.
The Orders got involved in the search, believing the mermaid was responsible for the wrecks of several ships and the loss of all lives on board.
Bubbles began to travel to other parts of the world, and everyone else was going crazy trying to find her. She made friends all over Tyria and returned to LA.
People were selling “mermaid potions” that made a lot of people ill, and all the wanted posters are being stolen by souvenir hunters.
Long story short: It wasn’t Bubbles, it was the krait, who kidnapped all the sailors and are planning a yet to be discovered evil. Meanwhile, Bubbles met a “nice woman” named Cerise who turned out to be Scarlet, and was murdered on the bridge from Ft. Marriner to LA proper. Scarlet had a half baked plan to destroy LA, but it was found out, and now everyone is focusing on why the krait are doing what they’re doing.
If you have the time, please do go back and read it all. This brief synopsis is woefully inadequate to define the story.
My 3:
1. More feedback – It’s great to discuss issues in the forum, but when you have 3 pages of “back and forth” discussion, with one or two posts from an Official, we get the impression that a)we’re talking to ourselves and b) that maybe y’all don’t think the issue is as important as we do. A post here and there saying “That won’t work because…” would go a long way to help us see what you are thinking.
2. More input from the community – Those of us that hang out in the forums are a small percentage of the in-game population. If we’re discussing something here, it may be that the general non-forum population has some input as well. We’d like to hear about some of it instead of having the impression that we forumites are the only people who care about stuff.
3. Hot topics – It’s great to talk about anything at all, but there are some topics that are in need of discussion right now, and others that can be put on the back burner for a bit. For example: we probably need to have a discussion about RNG and reward/risk ratios, while female running animation (apologies to the thread mentioning it) can probably be left for a bit.
can we spectate party members again when dead ? Like in GW1
^This… I miss being able to see what my party members are doing before they come back to rescue me.
But back on topic…yes, please do away with the death spin camera… it’s a PITA.
I can get behind this one… nothing like having to bow out of a fight early because you have to spend 10 minutes consuming luck before you go to work. If it’s account bound anyway, why not just have it add to our percentage automatically?
@all those who are “leaving” because Scarlet is involved….
Whether you like her or not, this is the best darned story I have had the pleasure to be involved with. Quitting because you don’t like a character is like refusing to go to Disneyworld because you don’t like confetti.
The Scarlett they have written here is NOT the “same” Scarlett that we see in the game. This Scarlett is interesting, and actually has some intelligence and cunning. This is an evil Scarlett that I can hate (not a bad thing) and will forever more affect the things I see in the game.
With the talents of the writers here, it actually makes the in-game Scarlett more “likable” and tolerable. Let’s see how far they can take that feeling…
Sorry for the digression….and thanks for letting me opine.
Cheers!
I’ve ridden the champ train in a couple of places.
I can truly say that it’s not the rewards for killing a champ. If you kill a champ, you get a bag/box/mats and a few silver. I can get more doing a DE or a dungeon.
It’s the rewards for killing multiple champs in a very short amount of time that makes it very profitable.
This all hearkens back to the risk vs. rewards issue that has been a problem in every MMO ever made. Those events/quests/DEs or whatever else you want to call them that don’t give a certain volume of rewards are going to be ignored.
Therefore, I have come to believe that in order to “do away” with the need to run the trains, you don’t necessarily need to nerf the rewards. I do believe that the best way to deal with them is to make everything else worth the effort so that people WANT to go to the “vacant” zones. Right now, (to make gold) given the choice between doing a 20 minute DE in (insert zone here) that gives a pittance or running the champ train for 10 minutes to make 10x the rewards, I’ll ride the train every time.
(adjusting the rabbit ears and tin foil on the mental antenna….don’t want to miss any of this epic and wonderful story)
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
(edited by Ashabhi.1365)
I am on the fence about this one.
On the one hand, the thought of cranking out alts to lvl 80 makes me crazy. On the other, I have a lot of knowledge of game mechanics, but I still can’t play a Thief with any sense of what I am doing without actually learning the class.
So, I am going to say that yes, an instant-80 scroll would be tempting, and it would save me hours of leveling through content where there may or may not be anyone to run with. However, I think there needs to be a couple of requirements before one were to come available to you.
1. You must already have at least one level 80 and have completed the PS. (World Completion isn’t “do-able” for everyone)
2. Before you can use the scroll, you must actually level the alt to at least 25 and complete the PS chapters to 25, OR level the alt to 25 and complete [X] PvP challenges/achievements.
I think that this would be a good way to bridge the gap between skipping boring content and yet learning your character.
But, this is only my opinion, so take it for what it’s worth.
Best thing to do is advertise for a group for a FULL RUN rather than selling a path. Yes, there will always be a market for selling a path, but if you want to run the whole thing, I am sure you won’t be the only one who would be willing to spend time and energy doing it. Not everyone wants to make a quick buck and skip everything. Some people actually want to DO the content.
As someone else has said, though, instead of waiting for one, start one yourself. That way you also have control of the instance.
I think it would be great, except for one thing….
Tybalt is (was) a Personal Story Character. Spoiler Alert!:A new player who walks into a city and sees his statue, and reads the caption would be sad to realize that he dies before they ever get to that chapter. If they put one up, I would think the best place for it would be in the instance that everyone sees only after they finish the Personal Story, where you receive your Pact Weapon of choice as your reward.
I like this idea too, but I think they have a few more important fixes to do beforehand…
I understand, Red, but truthfully, this is the ONLY thread like it in the general forums, and the content is entirely player created.
It is content like this that the game needs… it would be great to see Captain Storyteller sitting on the Docks, or Bubbles standing on the rock waving at people…
The point is that this is a story that a non RPer like me can get behind. These are characters that are endearing and have more personality than a lot of the existing NPCs. Even if we don’t interact with them, it would be nice to see them. Kind of like wandering through town and meeting a direct descendant of Cynd or even Eve.
Cheers!
I want!!!

This is so full of WIN…..
I’m going for more popcorn…anybody need anything from the kitchen?
Dear ANet…
There is a thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Warning-Buoy/first
This is, in my humble opinion, one of the best kitten ed threads I have read in any forum anywhere EVER….
I would humbly suggest, that in homage to the wonderful characters that have come to life through this thread, that you might consider immortalizing the characters in the story by placing non-interactive NPCs in LA. If one were to try to converse with them, they could say something about their story.
I do believe that these wonderful people with the big imaginations should be honored.
I would absolutely LOVE to see a switch mechanic something like the weapons switch. Even two builds would be great to have, because sometimes a build you would use for soloing would never work if you come across a large group event.
So, the rumors are TRUE.
And here I am, working my fingers to the bone in this barnacle-encrusted pile of driftwood, while you are swanning off after some fish-scaled hussy!
You heartless, scabby spawn of a Skelk! I may be a simple, crusty fishwife, but I’m most assuredly still your crusty fishwife!
Oh yes, it’s all in the name of protecting our fine port city, but I know what this is really about. First it was that bulbous ghostly whale, and now this? At least I didn’t have to worry about infidelity with that illusory beast!
I can see only one solution to this problem:
I must get to that mermaid first!
Then, you can focus on more important things, you ungrateful salty scoundrel.
ooooooooooooooooOOOoooooooooooooo…..
hmmm…let’s see…
New territory…maybe Isle of Janthir or the Far Shiverpeaks (Where Drakkar Lake used to be)
A world wide treasure hunt for a kick-kitten item that’s a guaranteed reward. Something you can’t do in a day, or even a week… Something on the order of the Personal Story, but for level 80’s, with the prerequisite that you must have finished the first Personal Story with at least one character…
since I know neither of those will happen, I’d settle for some armor or weapon skins that weren’t RNG or gem-store based. Something on the order of “finish the meta and get a whole set…”
Cheers!
I turn the sound off altogether… of course, I am mostly deaf in real life, so it would sound worse through my electronic ears, I am sure.
I play because I enjoy them.
Admittedly, some were/are better than others, but the simple fact remains, I am having fun.
That’s the whole point of playing a game, right?
ok… let’s see if I am getting this right.
Hypothetically speaking, here’s what I see happening if they were to remove the TP:
1. Immediately, all unneeded mats would only sell to a merchant for coppers instead of silver (and in some instances gold)
2. Nobody would have enough mats to build anything without merciless grinding.
3. Extremely casual players (not to be confused with “Casuals”) would never have anything more than the gear they get through PS or the occasional lucky drop until they get to the Temples.
4. Gold would become absolutely useless.
5. Inside of 2 minutes, most of the players who were complaining about the TP would be complaining that there was no TP.
6. There would be metric tons of people who would be filing reports of being scammed through the mail system.
I would rather have the TP.
I was wandering around LA trying to sell some of my findings this morning. I came to a small shop and went to go inside, but as I reached the for the door, I dropped something and bent to pick it up. When I reached for it, I saw this note sticking out from under a barrell. It was hastily written on a Fortune Scrap.
Evon,
Please give the bearer of this letter the items that I gave you some 2 months past. Once you do, show them how to get here.
By the way, watch for that Captain and make sure he knows…
Alas, the remainder of the note was lost to the elements. The hand didn’t look “feminine” so there may be more to this than just a small “mermaid” in the bay….
Luck to you, dear Captain.
Correct… Sensali Tengu are from Cantha. There are, however, sects of Tengu and Avicara all over Tyria. Most notably the evil ones just north of Droknar’s Forge.
OT: While I liked Factions for what it was, the idea of having to gain a bazillion guild influence in order to purchase a town (or qualify to fight for it) sounds like one more currency (guild influence) grind this game doesn’t need. No thank you.
IF they ever release some “Canthan” content, I do think it would be a hoot if we were to find the Kurzicks and the Luxons were still duking it out for territory. That way the option to “control” a city or town would be optional, and it wouldn’t affect too many who didn’t want to participate.
All MMOs have this issue.
It’s not necessarily that the rewards aren’t decent, as they can be in certain areas, but they’re mostly level appropriate. Once you’ve outleveled the area, there really isn’t any reason to go back because the mats and drops are geared to be for the level that the zone is designed to support.
In other words, if I gather mats in a level 40 area, all I can hope to make are level 40-ish items that are quickly made obsolete by the speed of leveling.
If I get drops in the same area, most will be for those who are level 40 or so, with a few here and there that may be level appropriate for whatever level I happen to be at.
There will still be people who are leveling that will go through those areas but like me, they will most likely not go back because there is simply nothing that will make a higher-leveled person stay (barring a world event like the tower.)
Until we hear something official from ANet, I am planning on reporting it as a bug. It may be that a simple operator input is incorrect and it thinks that all females are now males where running is concerned.
Or, it may be one of their “stealth” changes that we have yet to hear official confirmation about.
Either way, I feel for you, but it’s not as big an issue for me. I know a lot of females in real life who run like men are “supposed to” run.
In a sense, this is what ANet is doing. You (generally speaking) have been playing this game regularly for a while and have to buy your 400 gems. Those returning after a hiatus get the 400 gems as an incentive to return.
In that case, I would choose to wait for them to reward me to return.
Ok…
