When I played Hammer, I always used Axe/Mace or Axe/Shield as my offset. Usually Mace, but either way >most< thieves didn’t give me much trouble.
However, mesmer burst isn’t very high at all.
What the ..? lol
Rangers rely on a keen eye, a steady hand, and the power of nature itself. Unparalleled archers, rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows. With traps, nature spirits, and a stable of loyal pets at their command, rangers can adapt to any situation.
The class was sold as being an “unparalleled archer” that is “capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows”. That is why people want to play them as archers and not melee. Whether reality matches expectations or not, this is what people expect.
Really? A little bit of cursing here and there is a 72 hour ban? Seems a little overly harsh. From what I remember in other games policies it was more like warning, then 12 hour, then 24, then 48, then 72, then a week, then they start talking about perma bans. Everyone who legally plays this game signs a TOS stating they are 18 or older, seems a little ridiculous to have such harsh policies.
Currently, Elementalists are able to cast spells. It feels really overpowered.
Nothing new about Longbow builds.. It doesn’t make warrior any less bad. Sure, a warrior can do well, any class can really. The point is, why try when you can do well so much easier on another class?
I used to run A/M A/A with Omnomberry. That was fun, until they put an ICD on the food. In other words, the only reason to ever run A/A was nerfed a few months ago. At that time, Whirling Axe was like having an extra heal in AoE situations.
Trick Shot skill: First arrow is no longer heat-seeking.
Seriously? Lame.
I have played on and off since release. I usually take a break for a month or two then come back. The main reason I get bored is the lack of any PvP content other than conquest, the bad balance and lack of diversity in builds, and classes just get boring so easy because they are so limited.
Calling the pet system “vast” is a bit of a stretch don’t you think? It’s a very inferior pet system even to the likes of the WoW Hunter class.
I’d personally like to see Capture the Flag, Arena 2v2, 3v3, and 5v5, and a guild war system.. not the system from GW1. Something more along the lines of the guild war system from Ultima Online or Tera.
For the guild war system, one leader declares, other leader accepts, after that you are locked into the war until a certain amount of points or time is reached (3-5 days), and you can war multiple guilds at once.
Easiest fix:
Don’t pick UP the orb. BECOME the orb.
A big, fat, glowy bubble with high HP/Armor that moves slowly. You’d be very dependent on team support and everyone would be equal in terms of orb carrying.
I prefer this. Everyone should be equal in terms of carrying the orb. We shouldn’t need specific classes that are best at carrying orbs. Not to mention the obvious inconsistency with what is allowed and isn’t allowed.
I’ve made some changes to orb running that’ll show up in the end of April build. Ride the Lightning distance will be reduced while carrying the the orb, and gaining invulnerability will drop it.
How come leap type abilities are permitted but teleport type abilities aren’t? Ride the lightning is infinitely stronger for carrying the orb than Infiltrator’s Arrow. Either don’t allow any of them, or allow all of them.
I know this won’t be everyone’s experience … but I just got out of a game, and the enemy team was a pug made up of 4 D/D bunker ele’s and a necro. Long story short, we never stood a chance. Why has Ride the Lightening with the orb not been adjusted yet? It’s a ridiculous advantage on Spirit Watch, especially when there’s more than one source of it.
That is the only real problem. I can’t teleport with the orb, but anyone with leap type abilities can use them to gain a major advantage. A good ranger or ele is ridiculous at carrying orbs.

The entire idea of having more than one guild kills the point of an MMO to me. It just encourages guild hopping even more, which has already been a problem in games since….well…forever.
Guild hopping is only a problem for badly managed guilds, and therefore primarily the responsibility and fault of the guild leaders. Guild hopping eventually leads to extremely successful guilds at the expense of badly run guilds.
Give people a reason to represent and they’ll do it 100%. Enforcing it won’t cut it, just as much as no one ever keeps to the speed limit (except in Germany)
It works in our guild. If you don’t represent, you either leave or get kicked. If you don’t like the rules, which you are informed about prior to joining usually.. don’t join.
Most guilds have a representing rule. I don’t see the problem with it personally. The multi-guild system was complained about before the game even launched, guilds just found a way to work around an annoying mechanic.
I agree OhhGasm.9604. Hi by the way. I’m the guy that asked you to tourney the other day, but you were making a guild group.
I don’t quite understand how you get ranked personally. I have a higher win rate (in nothing but solo joins) than a lot of people on the boards, I also have more wins than a lot of people on the boards. In order for the ranking system to mean anything (if anything), we really need to know exactly how it works.
At this point, the lack of a division between team and solo que is hurting the game. The population will adjust to having both que systems, but only one side, the team players, will get enjoyment out of the current system. If it continues we will be back to the old paid problems, not enough teams and solo players not interested.
Implement the division now or very soon and things will get better, mark my words. If not, then the new found sPvP population boost will dwindle again.
Agreed.
You guys need to stop complaining about solo que vs premades…
If you don’t want to play tournament style then don’t. If you solo queue then you do so at your own risk.
Smart thing to do would be to create a group and play that way if you can’t stand pug’s in tournaments.
Remember it is TOURNAMENT PVP. there is another sPVP you can go play.
Quit complaining about this. There are more important aspects we should be addressing. Like Class balancing, Rating system, etc….
Thanks
You can have tournament pvp without premades streamrolling pugs. Look at the win rates of the top teams. In a good tournament system, they wouldn’t have an 80% win rate. If matchmaking was working correctly, they would be closer to 50-60%.
In my opinion, the best way to kill a Mesmer is to use Shortbow with Fire Sigil. Watch for their burst, don’t melee unless confident you can burst them down (low health).
The problem with nerfing mug is some more balanced (read: not backstab) builds rely on it for their under 50% burst. You can’t nerf it without compensating. If you want to nerf backstab build, you do it in a way that isn’t going to effect other builds. Nerfing backstab itself is a problem because even though I am not abusing it (pre cast C&D => Steal => Backstab) I still use it once or twice per fight and need that damage. Assassin’s Signet (do they even still use this, not sure what the current “best” backstab build is) and Cloak and Dagger are probably the best bet for further adjustments. If damage of Cloak and Dagger is further nerfed, cost should be adjusted accordingly.
It’s been said before, but even just getting the achievement prior to reaching the boss would make this more doable and less painful (i.e. no counter would be necessary).
True, but who doesn’t want a good old fashioned counter? Sonic had a counter, Mario had a counter, I want a counter too!
A counter would have been nice, and a total. Like, you have collected 1/150 baubles. In any case, 1 and 2 were pretty easy.. 3 was kind of a pain. A counter would have definitely made it more streamlined.
The main problem is if you don’t know for sure whether you have them all, then you kill the boss, you have to start over and try again.
This is a great thread. Really fun to see all these references. I can’t say where all the SAB influences came from since we are a team of people who all have different childhood game experiences. I can say the ones that I particularly was inspired by. The overall FEEL I wanted was a blend of Mario and Zelda. The original LoZ was the game that most inspired me to become a game developer. But I didn’t want to make a Zelda clone. While some of the weapons are the same as LoZ, they are in many many games. We were trying to pull from many sources and blend them. That was one of the most fun parts at the beginning was everyone comparing our memories of our favorite childhood games and finding the common themes, tropes, mechanics, etc.
That’s pretty much what I got from it Josh, it felt like Mario and Zelda. Although, some of the zone 3 music reminds me of Metroid or those underground bonus levels in Mario. lol
The zoom out on the first two bosses reminds me of some of the boss fights in Mario 64.
I have a question. Will the vendor remain in the game even after the SAB is removed, or will do we need to spend our points before it is removed (or save them for next time)?
If it does have to be removed, how about this. Do something similar to the Darkmoon Fair in WoW, put it up one week per month.

Watch it and cry. You can figtht with 10+ ppl and you don’t go in stealth even once. ;D
You can do it on a thief or a mesmer as well.
Also.
Whenever you see a outnumbered vs X video, watch for the outnumbered guy killing others of the same class. In this particular video they kill a lot of elementalists, hence just them being amazingly good, not anything about them being OP.
That makes no sense. Of course there are good and bad players. What makes a class overpowered is not what a bad player can do with it, but what an amazingly good player can.
Actually your way makes less sense: “Oh hey one person playing this profession can do this this and that, clearly the entire profession is overpowered so lets lower the power of everyone so this one amazingly good player can’t do this anymore, so what if the 99% of other people who already couldn’t do that now can’t even do basic stuff as long as this one amazing player can do it the profession is fine/OP!”
Something becomes overpowered when it is powerful in ANYONES hands in any given situation, this is also why stealth and initiative isn’t that overpowered because while its powerful in low tier pvp in the hands of everyone as soon as you go to higher tier fights it becomes much weaker in everyones hands.
Wrong. Having a low learning curve does not make a class overpowered. For instance, the Warrior learning curve isn’t that steep but they are considered one of the worst sPvP classes currently.
Same here. Tried all characters, tried repairing network connection, etc. Will not let me log in, and I had just logged out to switch characters.
Edit: I am also Jade Quarry and was also switching characters to run SAB.

Here is the thing. I think for at least the next 6 months, you guys need to stop worrying about content (or put it on the back burner with a smaller team) and really focus on class balance and making all classes good and fun to play. Every patch should be loaded with class balance, LOADED.
Versatile at range.
The power of the pet mechanic.
Your definition of versatile is… strange.
Pets… I don’t know. I absolutely abhor the way pets are designed in this game and I dislike that we are stuck with them.
I agree. I preferred pets in WoW personally.
What if we were allowed to do the priority of pet skill usage ourself?
A -> B -> C could become A -> C -> B or even just C -> C -> C. Just allowing us to set this by ourselves would take away a whole lot of the curretn frustrating randomness and make everything more controlable. No more stupid swiftness cast of Bird pets on every engage. Moa heals or dazes when we need them. Cat burst on demand.
Hell they should even allow us to slot A, B or C into the f2 position or include the f2 into the chain. The interface is already there.
I would have thought this would have been in at release, considering you have been able to control what skills you do or don’t want your pet to use in WoW since release.
1up.
The adding and removing of content gets really old. If you look at an old game like Asheron’s Call, they added content on a monthly basis and the majority of it stayed in game after the event was over (except for invasions) so they built up this huge amount of content you could go complete whenever you felt like it or even just for nostalgia purposes. Since this is a pretty neutral type of event (not a real holiday theme) I personally think it should remain in the game.
the System should encourage queuing as a Team.
I don’t think so, personally. It should encourage queuing however you want to queue.
I was thinking more along the lines of a proc based chance to remove a boon or two, maybe steal one as mentioned above.
Good idea. Probably won’t ever happen though.
I agree with this and have been saying it for months. The lack of game types is what has caused me to get annoyed and takes breaks from this game so often. We really need some ctf. Arena style combat would be nice as well, but I would be fine with them starting with a good ctf map and working on arena combat later.
For the guy who said they need only one game type, you are completely wrong. Sit on the point combat gets old, and it has been old for a while. Why do you think the pvp population has been steadily declining?
LoL/StarCraft/World of Tanks all have only one competitive mode, that doesn’t stop them from being popular now does it.
They aren’t MMOs.
The amount of Points you need to rank up is fine (evekitten0k from 70 to 80).
The problem is you have not any option of progressive ranking. Compare it to GW1, it’s not about cosmetics at all.
I don’t think so. I think it’s pretty ridiculous. I mean, it took me 1038 games (mostly sPvP, some tournament) just to hit rank 30, playing on and off since release. If each game took 10 minutes that equals 173 hours or 7.2 days played time to hit a very low rank. I could level 2 characters to 80 in far less played time. Let’s not forget that the amount of points you need gets harsher the higher you go. Is it going to take another 5 days played just to go from 30 to 40? Anyone who thinks the current ranking is fine, probably plays 40 hours a week or is the carrot on a stick gamer type who wants a constant unattainable goal.

Just what PvP needs, less PvP’ers!
No thanks. How about instead of wasting your time making tPvP even worse with a rank restriction (and I am way above 20 so no bias here), you actually add some more game types and add a guild war system so we can get some GvG world PvP in.
12: Yes
I have said they should get rid of haste from the start. It is too powerful, which basically means everyone has to be balanced around it. Just go ahead and take it out completely and start re-balancing.
I main thief and.. honestly.. how can you say thief is bad? lol
Let’s talk again we you’ll meet the first 4 eles+ guardian team.
Problem isn’t Thief. It’s the aforementioned classes ability to cheese it.
200 gems for 1 day? I can rent a TF2 server for around 20 a month. At ANets current pricing it would cost ~60 a month for a GW2 server. They should have tried to get the pricing around 10-15 a month at most. A good price point would have been 200 gems for 5 days worth of time.
Or are there at least 2-3x the amount of Elementalists there used to be in sPvP, and every single one of them is D/D now. I took a break for a couple months so it was a bit of a shock to see how much the Ele population has changed.
It’s not as bad as people say. I played P/P a lot at release, in probably around 400 or so sPvP games. Yes, it has some issues, but no it isn’t horrible. My favorite build for P/P is the build I created myself back in early release. 25/30/0/15/0, I tried a lot of variations and always came back to that build.
I agree that the weapon set is a little initiative starved, personally I have been testing a lot of different builds for the same sets (D/P with P/P secondary) and I am not sure what I like best yet. Currently I am using a pretty glassy build but I have been going back and forth a lot. My specs are a little offbeat and made to fit my needs generally. I like to feel more like an Assassin and less like a light tank.
My specs are generally higher in Shadow Arts and Acrobatics and max Critical Strikes. I am currently experimenting with a more glass cannon type of build with 25 30 0 15 0. Main problem of course is I don’t have as much initiative regen as my other builds. The 15 in acrobatics is for the swiftness on dodge (so I don’t feel like I need Signet of Shadows) as well as vigor on heal for more survivability via dodges and the endurance return on dodge. As you can tell, it relies heavily on dodging and burst. It has been moderately successful so far. I use Hide is Shadows, Shadowstep, and Shadow Refuge. On the last utility skill I have been switching it around a lot depending on what I felt I needed. A lot of times I have been using Ambush Trap, but have also switched it up to Blinding Powder, Shadow Trap, and Roll for Initiative at times. My elite is exclusively Thieves Guild. I almost always include Shadowstep and Shadow Refuge in my builds, they are just too good to pass up imo. I also detest venom builds, I find them very boring. No denying they are strong though.
Above quote is a post of mine from 5 months ago. The information still holds true for the most part as far as P/P is concerned.
