OK, not sure where you got 145, because I am sure I definitely salvaged a whole stack (250) and got c. 270 dust, then I did a few more with a standard kit and got a low yield (1.2x, but not large enough sample size). I stopped at that point and didn’t do the rest of the 2500, but I did do another stack (250) now and got a normal result. Not sure what is going on, but problem is fixed.
Experience also looks normal again, almost 26K
Thanks for caring
lol
and yet you let an entire thread march on using the 2500 number. That’s pretty much intentionally misleading
I really don’t agree with blaming other people for someone’s own poor choices and assumptions. If it was unclear how many ectos he salvaged, it could be easily resolved by asking a question or two.
Or once he saw people doing math on 2500 salvaged he could have stepped in and said, My bad. I only salvaged this one stack (or however many he actually salvaged). But no, he let people do math and debate on a number he posted on his original post.
I would say sell then based on your response. There is zero reasons to equip an extremely expensive weapon where you no longer like the skin. You’ll undoubtably lose some gold but it will be less than what you would lose by equipping and then not enjoying. Use the gold you do get to buy/start working toward what you do like.

Letting people know that it wasn’t 2500 ectos salvaged stopped further speculation and math about why OP got the numbers he did. It was relevant to the thread as there were numerous posts about the numbers he claimed he got and whether that was likely or probable.
The 2,500 ectos is irrelevant. He could have said 3,000, 178, or 18. The problem was that his rate of dust was wrong. Maybe he was calculating wrong. Maybe he missed counted somewhere. John confirmed that the rate of ecto to dust hadn’t changed. That was all that was needed to resolve this issue.
And maybe Mr. Smith didn’t appreciate someone not telling the whole story and making him take time off from his other work to check an issue based on a falsehood (and it became a falsehood when OP allowed others to do math based on the 2500 ectos salvaged figures). And it was still relevant to say how many were actually salvaged as it stopped further speculation, even in people’s own minds, about the chances involved.
If he hadn’t corrected that number, people would be quoting OP to show you can salvage 2500 ectos and get the dust he claimed.
(edited by Astral Projections.7320)
John’s response was completely appropriate. The OP made a claim that the company’s technology was malfunctioning based on the interpretation of some data. The response was that there is no malfunction, because the data being used was incorrect. Providing the real data was important in this case beyond the simple “working as intended” line, because the originally claimed data was so far outside expected values for a working as intended system.
An appropriate response was the first few posts, where he tests it and shares the result of the test.
Going further to point out the lie does not prove anything except that the OP lied. The information about how many they salvaged was entirely irrelevant in regards to proof that the system was working normally.
Although, to be entirely fair, we don’t really have any proof that what John Smith claimed about the OP is true either, although that’s another can of speculative worms that I’m not going to open.
It stopped further (pointless) speculation about why OP got the numbers he did and how likely that was.
As an addendum OP, you salvaged 145 ectos for 279 dust.
As amusing as this is (and it is indeed greatly amusing!), I don’t think it’s good business practice to embarass your customers !
I have to agree. John’s response made me feel greatly uncomfortable. It’s rather unprofessional because it erodes the relationship between the developer and the customer. What are the standards for when Anet should and should not humiliate players? My preference would be never.
He corrected a lie. It’s better to have truthful information out there rather than fabricated information created to serve someone’s ulterior motive(s). It would not have been embarrassing to the OP had he simply not made it up or make up another lie after it was pointed out how many salvage he had actually done.
They also used to do this in a reddit thread. People would say they did nothing wrong and were then proven that they were incorrect.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/yxx3m/suspensions_for_offensive_names_and_inappropriate/
This is far different. Those people were breaking the rules and trying to embarrass and malign Anet over their suspensions. Even then, Anet stated why they were suspended because it was relevant to the topic. They did not do it to humiliate or attack them. They did it to clear up the misunderstanding.
As Filiha pointed out, John’s response brought nothing to the topic other than to humilate the OP. John’s first few responses resolved the issue. After that it just turned into a public lynching.
It brought to the topic that the OP lied (lie of omission). When people started commenting on 2500 sample size he remained quiet that he had not salvaged all that he bought. Lying yet again.
His next post in the topic never once apologized for the misunderstanding in the first post.
Meaning he meant to omit the fact that he had not salvaged all 2500 ectos.
He lied in order to get ANet to look into the numbers. He wasted John’s time since what he salvaged was no where near high enough to get an investigation started.
He let readers know that the OP will lie to further their own agenda.

The truthful information that was required in the situation began and ended at “The salvage rate is unchanged and normal, here’s the data that supports that.”
What the player actually did or did not do was unnecessary and doesn’t help prove any points.
I’d have to agree that it’s unprofessional. And brings other policies into question. I mean, we’re not allowed to be told in confidence that someone got punished for directly affecting us that we may have reported, but it’s okay to publicly embarrass a player that isn’t affecting any players at all?
It’s never embarrassing to hear the truth unless you lied and I don’t see any reason to protect liars.

Because the truth hurts?
OP is a forum poster and if he says something false, anyone with the truth can correct him. (And knowing that public embarrassment is possible, will keep people honest).
So, what are your options?
Sell right away: You’ll lose 600 gold.
Will prices go up again: they’ve been heading down for a few months now. Even if they do go back up, it could easily take a few months. In addition, if ANet releases new precursors, that will be the new shiny and I would expect prices to drop further.
Equip or not: did you make this thing to sell or because you liked the looks? If for looks then equip. If for sale, you might be in trouble. Either sell at a loss to get most of your gold back or stick in the bank and pray.
The snowflakes excess have been used to make cheap weapons. I read a post saying that was the reason mithril went up in price and other T5s down.
As an addendum OP, you salvaged 145 ectos for 279 dust.
He might have more than one account. Like me. Just imagine a world, where people do different stuff on different accounts.
Madness, I say.
I have zero salvaged ectos on this one, so how many ectos did I salvage on my other account(s) in the last 24 hours?
OP wrote to defend himself but that’s not one of the points he raised in his own defense. I’m pretty sure OP would know if he had a second account and he would have brought that point up if it were relevant. And he did admit to salvaging way less than 2500 (saying he was sure it was a full stack that he salvaged).

I don’t agree, because you will need to buy the expansion to get Tengu in the first place. New players if they’re smart, won’t buy the expansion before the base game, because I suppose it won’t work anyway. It sounds like you deny the game a touch of progress simply because new players will be confused. Tengu would appear in a expansion, so it’ll be obvious and very natural that their personal story would take place further in the lore than the base game did. This is what people call expansion, which means expanding all the game had to offer until now.
Except they have said they might not have expansions. That they want see if they can open up and expand through the use of the Living Story.

You are wrong. Are you saying that the “new framework for how an MMO can grow it’s universe” is a traditional expansion?
Because it looks very much to me like an expansion through the use of the Living Story (which is what I said).
I didn’t bother to define the term expansion as being a traditional boxed expansion as I thought it was obvious to those reading the thread.
My point is that the “new framework”, “the living world was just the beginning” indicates something beyond the biweekly updates the LW team has developed so far. Surely living world will be an inspiration source for HoT, but I dont think it will consist of a bundle of such episodes, if any. Rather we will see our universe expand, (therefore expansion although different), and it will be like nothing else we’ve seen before, a new framework. It will expand, but not through living world alone.
I’m assuming when you say expand you mean either maps or story. If we assume no traditional boxed expansion, how do you think there will be new maps/story without the use of the Living Story? I think it most unlikely they will open up new maps from now on without it being tied to the Living Story (or boxed expansion if they do go that route).

They don’t allow people to name chars after NPCs in the game, either exactly or closely. If there are others, they may simply not been reported yet.

Disallowed names are disallowed names. Using an NPC name has been related to various issues within the game. Believe me, I’ve reviewed some of them. Whether the use of the name would result in evil doing, it would result in confusion, and for that reason, if no other, the name is disallowed.

I am 100% with you, OP. I have never (and will never) buy an Outfit. I don’t care how nice it looks; if I’m going to look exactly like everyone else in the game I don’t want it. On the other hand, if I could use individual pieces I would probably have purchased everything they’ve put out to date.
Apparently they’ve decided to go the McDonald’s/Wal-Mart route and court the huddled masses for their money. Those of us with more refined tastes are getting the short end of the stick these days.
It’s a bad mistake to think that just because you dislike something that others like, that means your tastes are refined.
we can also imagine that its only became usable during special big event and only by commander (like the vinewraith or during tequalt ). This events are sort or raid and it could make sense that afk/dead player could be “eject” or “send to the nearest WP” (for many good reason).
At this moment, the player could come back in battle (to fight again or to claim his reward which are big chest on the map).So yes there are lot of troll, and commander can be one of them but afk/dead people are worth imo during this events (take a place on the map, upscal event, take place on the ground etc…). And keep in mind that lot of commander during this events aim to succes the event.
I’m pretty sur that a system like this can be introduced with good limitations to avoid abuse.
(just see that you edit your last reply with same idea Elrey^^ )@Astral Even if he not upscall the event, a dead player is useless than a player alive. if the dead player stay here waiting for a rez because he is lazy instead of coming back trought WP, the group becomes less effective.
@Wbon, even if you WP, you got your reward.
In the Vinewrath, the path back into the fight area is blocked (the vines grow back during the fight) so if he is not upscaling the event it hardly matters if he wps out and runs back. Either way he can not contribute, either he is dead or he is unable to enter.
For the player there is an advantage in staying there, he doesn’t have to pay for a wp. He doesn’t have to spend time running back. If the event wins, people rez him. If the event fails and everyone is kicked out, people rez him and again, he doesn’t have to pay for a wp or run back.
So, if it’s not being upscaled and there are no advantages to wp’ing out for this event but there are advantages to staying, he might as well stay.
The whole premise of OP’s argument is that staying while dead upscales the fight. If untrue, and it is according to wiki, his argument falls apart.

Just what we needed, RNG posting.
The question is, are dead players actually up scaling events are is this just “common knowledge” being put out, but not actually true. If they aren’t, the event will descale whether they are lying there or are waypointed back.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dynamic_event
“To keep a consistent level of difficulty along with increased participation, an event will scale dynamically based on the number of active participants.”
“And
Events scale both up and down according to the number of players who are currently participating.”
And
“Events can detect that players have not performed any actions relating to the event within a period of time and will scale down the event accordingly”
Which could imply that it descales if people are dead and not participating and that waypointing or staying doesn’t change the outcome of the scaling.

Their reasoning: Source (page 18).
“When we started looking at bringing more of the clothing back into armor with mix and match styles there are some fundamental incompatible things between weight classes. (part of how we set up every armor to allow many dye channels and styles per piece)..”
And
“Outfits give us a way to create highly stylized looks that aren’t constrained to armor slots or weight class.”
The problem is with the different armor weights and incompatibilities between weights. It means that they can’t make one set for all 3 sets of armor weights They would have to make 3 sets (which would then be armor and not outfits) and price them individually. With outfits they can make one set and sell it to all armor weights.

Have you ever read the Archeage forums? That has a free to play option. The bot problem is bad. Gold seller spam in chat is bad, to the point chat is unusable because gold selling messages scroll so fast. Anyone who wants to run bots or sell gold can make a free account and do so. Ban them and they make another free account. Gold sellers (and sellers of other items, such as sex aids) even spam the official forums because they can make a new account minutes after they are banned.
There are reasons why MMOs restrict free and new paid accounts.

Let’s say the Living Story goes into Cantha, which is a really good time to put Tengu in the game. Let’s say they even give us a new character slot. Will only Tengu have a personal story for that area or will the old players also get an addition to their personal story? If it’s Tengu only, that forces people who hate beast races or only play one char to make and play a Tengu. It also means they will need to do a whole set of personal stories in addition to the living story line.
If they add Tengu now, will that be the only race that doesn’t have a personal story or will they go back and add them to the Zhaitan story line? (Adding is extremely unlikely imo because of costs. Not really worth it for one race that not everyone will play and only a fraction of those will do the Zhaitan story).
Imo, personal story is dead and they will never make another. It’s been replaced with Living Story. But this makes adding new races awkward as the old ones will have a personal story and the new ones will not, confusing and upsetting new people who buy the game, make a (new race) and find out their char is “second rate” story wise.
ANet might have shot themselves in the foot when it comes to new races.
Well the next part of the story doesn’t need to go to Cantha for the Tengu. They’re right next to the pale tree so no need for pushing the story to a fast off place, at least not at first.
And of course they’d have a personal story, it’s just caught up with recent events. Remember, the Tengu chose not too help directly against Zhaitan. You can’t change that now unless there’s a story to tell about what the Tengu were doing in the meantime. No, not even that would work all that well. With the whole Mordremoth deal, it’d likely push the Tengu into action especially with how close the dragon attacks are to them.
I don’t see it as a huge issue of just making their personal story new. You don’t have to play a Tengu to experience it because the living story will likely continue ever with an expansion.
I wasn’t saying that the next part of the story is going to Cantha. I was saying that there are two sets of problems with personal story and new races depending on if they put a new race in now or wait till they go to Cantha.
And no, there is no guarantee there will be personal story ever again. That is likely replaced by the Living Story.
Search on the trading post by rarity.
You know that the first 2 and last are rare and the third is fine. None are exclusive. Get the armor on, preview colors to see which color hue is in which slot. Then filter rare dyes and check the icons (if you look at the icons, it means you don’t have to check the ones where the icon is different). Mouse over each one till you see a likely color match and preview it. It’s even easier if you look at the name. If you are looking for a yellow dye then one named Emerald (for example) is obviously not it.
The fine one will be harder but even those have 2 icons so you can disregard the ones that don’t match the icon you are looking for and mouse through the rest.
(The yellow one might be Redemption)

If an employee is wearing an Anet tag; it means they are working. At every other publisher I’ve worked with, the tag is only available while playing from the internal network (at work) or logged in to the internal network via proxy server.
Either way its unlikely that said employee was out to grief or waste anybody’s time intentionally. Instead they were either trying to track down a bug with the assistance of other players, or some other in game task. Regardless, it sounds like you were just collateral damage.
I don’t know if they are working, but as I understand it from previous comments, that a guild tag they are using and whether or not it shows depends on whether or not they are repping.

All bosses have a set timer and they don’t really deviate from that. I’ve come to the bosses minutes before it was due to spawn and there have always been enough people. The majority of them are champs anyway which can be killed by a handful of players.
That’s not the point at all.
The point is having to wait hours before a daily is available to do. If you aren’t able to wait, it might as well not be on the list for you.
I was mainly addressing the first part about him choosing between SB or the guild event. He could’ve joined the guild event and then hopped to Queensdale for SB a few minutes before it was due to spawn. I do agree that being restricted to specific times for an achievement is going to be a bit too far.
Depends on the guild event. If they are doing missions and you are in the middle of one, you can’t really leave it and go off to do the boss event if that’s when it pops. Not only do you lose the commendations but it can possibly cause the mission to fail if people are leaving in the middle of it, especially with guilds that have trouble getting 2 full parties together to do missions.
If they introduce another race, they then have to provide the equivalent of the Personal Story for that race. While I’m not saying it’s impossible, or even completely unfeasible, I rather doubt they have done this. People have also been asking for mounts since before launch, and as we all know, that’s never happening.
That’s a very good point.

So… Everybody is asking for Tengu since launch and now that Mordremoth is rising, Tengu might be forced to leave their walls to face this new threat that appears to be… Quite near them.
So back to the question. What profession will your Tengu be? I was thinking about making a Phoenix inspired Tengu as an elementalist.
I certainly have never asked, wanted, desired Tengu as a race ..so its at least everbody MINUS 1.
The equipment, armor animation work would in my singular opinion make having Tengu a large waste of resources.I would much prefer anyway another of the humanised races from GW1 , I miss my spear wielding paragon most. The Tengu have the same general body plan as Charr so armor shouldn’t be a special problem. Animations? Every new race will need its own set of animations to make it separate enough from the other races, even the “human” races will need their own set. I don’t see that adding Tengu will be a lot of extra work for armor or animations.

Also, if the concept art is any indication, their beak shapes would be an important structure to customize the different faces of the Tengu to derive different species of bird sorry of like the Charr and their horns. And like you mentioned, plumage patterns! Birds are extremely diverse, far more than felines so the possibilities, from wing shapes to any color under the sun, can be a reference.

Interesting post by OP: Source
I made this Thread on the General discussion forum about why people dont like SPvP, Most the people in there are PvE’ers or WvW’ers… anyways what im trying to get at is that it looks like Guildwars2’s player base consist of a whole bunch of “kitten”… so to say.
(Snip)
Interesting to learn that he thinks the Guild Wars 2’s player base consists of a whole bunch of “kitten” (no telling what that was a euphemism for).
He asks people who don’t like PvP why they don’t, then in another thread characterizes the people who answer as a bunch of “kittens”.
Imo, OP is typical of many PvP players.

Tengu was planned as playable before launch. They share a overall posture etc with charr. But apparently their beaks interfered with presentation of the living story dialogs.
Could have them speak like parrots which speak without moving lips. It might look odd to us since that’s not what we are used to seeing, but it could be worked in. They could close the mouth at sentence markers, such as commas and periods, to keep it from being too static.
