I’ve had it choose people I don’t know while typing. I’ll start typing and it leaps in with some random name that starts with the letters I’ve typed so far.
Edit: one possibility is it’s choosing a name from my follower list.
I never type in the name. It autocorrects while typing. It choses people with similar names or whose names start out the same. Much safer to friend the person then send to them from the friend list.
The Devs read the forums, counted the number of posts on different topics and decided to give people what they want.
Open world non consensual PvP, mounts, flying, the Holy Trinity, dueling, increased levels, gear treadmills, dps meters and removing the trading post and putting in player to player trading.

There was a thread a while back where a guy posted about how he had a friend try out the game. OP posted a sample of chat and in that short section, he had made 3 negative remarks about the NPE and leveling. The friend quit after a couple of days.
The point is, don’t invite your gf to play the game and then make remarks about how bad parts of it is. No one wants to play a bad game.
I’m not saying, be anything but honest. But you can answer truthfully without stating your opinion. If you don’t like something, state the facts and nothing but the facts.
She may like something you hate or not even notice it, but If you prejudice her ahead of time she will approach it knowing she dislikes it. If she knows ahead of time that X is bad and Y is only for noobs and this is all she knows about the game then she will only try out the game to humor you and leave as soon as reasonable.
As above. Once you pick a display name it’s fixed as long as it doesn’t break TOS and characters can’t be transferred to a new account.
I’ve seen you complain about your name before but truthfully, if you look at the others, it’s no any better or worse than anyone else’s. Most people ingame will never see it and extremely few will care about it.
I would also like to be able to use another utility skill in place of an elite. That would be actual useful, unlike the current elite skills which are elite in name only (and rarely used as using them seems to have little effect).
Why do people think that Asura culturally have no interest in looking feminine and “girly” when Taimi is clearly wearing a ribbon in her hair?
Does that mean a female Asura wants to wear dresses though? Or do Asura have their own (non human) standards and ways to show femininity. Possibly thru showing how big the ears are or how broad the forehead.
Wow so for the same price of 1 char slot we can have a whole second account with 5….fantastic. I hope they get the word out as this is a phenomenal deal.
As someone whom has several accounts, please realize the downfall that comes from not being able to share the best items/gear between them all. The past year “account binding” has increased dramatically. People are complaining about the grind, like in the Silverwaste right now. Multiply that by several times and you can imagine what having multiple accounts is like.

One one hand I’ll probably get an extra account. Mainly, It can be a co leader to my storage account (which has stacks of mats and some weapon skins I’m holding onto for later sale). This might be sufficient use for an extra account. I read one thread where a guy accidentally left his storage guild and lost everything in it.
On the other hand, any other uses? Not sure. Perhaps extra guild storage and ability to mail somethings across accounts. Pretty meager.
I had 2 accounts in Guild Wars 1 but there was less inventory space so the other account was useful as a bank. The number of account bound items in this game puts a severe crimp in the usefulness of extra accounts.
I made weapons for my chars and softwood was the one I has to buy most often. I would take a char and do a farming run to get plat and hard wood to sell to buy soft wood. There just isn’t enough soft wood trees.
I am on level 64 and the story mechanics have disappeared. I cannot pan to the locations on the mini-map and there are no indications that the story is even present in my game. Can someone tell me what is wrong?
What is the name of the last story that character did?
My recommendation is to do the dungeon a few times with guild members till you know it well enough to use the LFG (looking for group) on your Contacts and LFG tab (default Y key). If you go to youtube you can watch videos of it beforehand. There are 3 different paths so which you watch or do will depend on that.
Exotics (and the right traits for your build) are needed pretty much if you pug it. Guildies are usually more forgiving about that.
If instead of an expansion they announce new levels, mounts, open world PvP, flying, holy trinity, gear progression, player to player trading, dps meters and/or a subscription…. I just might be displeased.
(ANet logic: those were the most common topics so therefore that’s what people want)

Digital Heroic Edition = Standard Edition ^^. It will be $9.99 this weekend only on the Guild Wars 2 website. Better yet, the Deluxe version will be on sale for $15, so no reason to be cheap about it!
Huh. I never thought about stolen credit cards. They can buy, use and lose multiples of accounts without excessive cost to themselves as long as there isn’t a way for the card use to be tracked to the main business. That should be easy enough with a few precautions.
Not to forget that game developers earn no money on those and have a lot of
work and cost to ban the accounts and pay back the money to the legal owner
of the credit cards.

You misread me. I said the Display names (in your case, Beldin.5498) is on the leaderboards. I was explaining to the person I quoted, who was using Account name instead of the term Display name, the difference between the two.

/shrug. They don’t investigate those type of statements. They simply won’t help you if your friend does something that gets you banned or sells some of your stuff. It’s not really provable anyway unless the friend lives far enough away that it shows up as a sudden IP change.

I’m severely tempted. Not that I have any real use for a second account other than to be a co leader to invite myself back if I accidentally leave my storage guild but darn. This sounds sweet.
There are things to consider, just to mention a few I can think of. What If someone thinks his account is going to get banned so he moves his char to a new, clean account and so gets around losing that char and doesn’t get banned? What if someone transfers a char that is wearing cultural armor to an account that doesn’t have that achieve, does the new account get the achieve points? How about any Legendarys the char has equipped, do they transfer? Does the old account lose access to those skins? If they move a char with traits unlocked to another new account, do the traits follow or does he have to get those traits again? Do the char’s skill points move with it?
It’s not as clean cut as simply moving a char from one spot to another. If they do move a char it will probably be a completely stripped one. No gear. No skill points. No traits. No personal story progress. Just a naked basic character model moved from one account to another. You can do that yourself by making the char on the new account and use tomes/crafting to level to 80.

“There’s a bigger technical issue—during “in game” scenes, the NPCs are moving around and things are happening (gadgets might be activating, props may be animating, etc.) and if you just skipped all that, it could lead to some really bizarre behavior. Trying to manually set a “failsafe” to teleport the NPCs, fire off effects, etc. to replicate what the world state is if the cutscene plays is extremely tedious and error prone.
That’s why the old style “dialogue cutscenes” (and the fancy but rare full blown cinematic sequences, like the Order movies and racial intros) are skippable, because we aren’t doing anything to the world while the dialogue plays, so skipping it doesn’t have any effect. We’ve moved away from those, because the in-game scenes are a lot more satisfying, but there’s a trade off."
Who says the Tengu need a personal story inside the Zhaitan arc?
Might be a consideration because of new players. Let’s say one gets to character creation and picks Tengu out of the 6 playable races, not knowing Tengu are new. So the new player gets his char to level 80. Then they find out, to see the Zhaitan personal story line, they need to level a different char of a different race all the way to level 80. Naturally, they are going to feel they it isn’t fair that their race, out of the 6, can’t do it.
This is why I think ANet boxed themselves in with new races introduced in Tyria. If they put a new race in now, they shortchange people who play the new race because there is no personal story for the new race. Yet they can’t put the Tengu into the personal story line now (the cost and time needed to do so and the changing of the lore to fit). Which makes me think that a new playable race won’t show until the game goes to Cantha or Elona.
PS : By the way, “signet of bloodlust” are bugged cause they won’t never stack in scenarios.
There was a thread about this. Apparently these mobs and the ones in the Vinewrath don’t give exp. That means all the ‘on kill’ sigils, traits, runes, food, etc. don’t work. Pets with Master’s Bond also don’t gain points and get stronger.
I noticed this in the Vinewrath lanes. My ranger got there with no bloodlust. After killing awhile I noticed I still didn’t have a stack. I checked my pet, no Master’s Bond.
This new system badly effects anything that depend on activation upon kill which might be why some people are having unexpected problems.
1)Vision Crystal and 1-2 refined ascended crafting materials
Good if you get damask, but more likely to get elonian leather or deldrimor steel
2) 8 Obsidian Shards and 7 Mystic Clovers
Good only if making a Legendary and need clovers, but may be more cost effective to Mystic Forge to get clovers rather than only 7 for a 28 day investment.
3) 20 laurels
Used for crafting, trinkets, infusions, buying T6 mats
4) 6 Tomes of Knowledge
Good for leveling alts, as skill points for buying skill/trairs/promoting items in the mystic forge.
Most people are going to go for laurels as that will be the most useful or profitable choice.
If its not the Tengu then second most likely would seem to be Watchknights/Steam creatures. Scarlet created them and noticed that they were becoming independent/sentient and learning/evolving before she shipped them off via her portal magic. Who knows where they all ended up . . . some in Timberline but others could have ended up somewhere that we have not discovered yet. There is also the alternate Tyria where an evil version of the PC uses them as their army. Could come from there as “refugees.”
Nooooooo. Not Steam Machines/Watchknights. If they put those in the game then someone will want the female ones to be able to wear dresses and be cute. They’ll come to the forum and make threads about it and frazzle my mind.
If I could give infractions to the new daily, I would give it one for derailing play.
I’m finding myself doing less dailies and spending less time logged in game and I can directly point to the start of the new system. The problem is, by the time I go here and go there to get the tasks done, I’m either irritated, bored or both. I wasn’t playing during that time. I was jumping thru hoops for the rewards (which I do want). The last few days I’ve been logging out right after I’ve done my daily because of the way I was feeling about the game and I’ve never done that, not in over 2 and 1/2 years of playing.
If they haven’t done the personal story but are aware that it involves killing Zhaitan then references to them killing Zhaitan can be understood. Most people I assume are aware that the original story is about killing him.
If they don’t know that Trahearne (for example) is part of the personal story, suddenly finding him alive in an room somewhere could be a confusing moment, as well as an apparent logical fail, as they don’t know he is there as part of that story.
But a warning where it tells them before entrance that they are entering an instance that takes place in the past could work.
Well, technically they can. Canonically the Personal Story takes place a full year (or thereabouts) prior to the Living Story. (Zhaitan is dead by the start of the Living Story, for example.) It’s a bit flexible, but generally anything the player does in the open world, PS or dungeons should be considered as taking place in the past.
I can see it causing confusion. You could have new people who get to 80 without doing the personal story or just a few chapters, do the Living Story, get past the point where an Iconic died, then go inside one of the offices and there the dead person is. With dialog and all.
If they kill any or all of them they might need to remove them from their offices or have a warning at entrance that you are going into the past.
They can’t kill any of the chars that are in the personal story. The game requires them to still be ingame for that for all the people that haven’t done it. If they die then people who are doing both Living Story and personal story will have them both dead and alive.
However, he did raise a good point. The event, which is necessary for the treasure hunter achievement has been broken, and reported as broken for a long time, possibly months. The item, Sam, from the chest is at 700 gold at the moment as few can get it.

One curious thing I noticed about all of these gold spammer accounts. They ALL have precisely 10 AP (or thereabouts). Why is that?
Account restrictions maybe on new accounts? Maybe they have to have a few AP before they can whisper someone not on a friends list or party member, or something else they want is behind an AP restriction.
You notice that they no longer bother to put underwater weapons in the new Black Lion sets and they took out the underwater PvP fights. To me that signals they won’t have major underwater content any time soon. Which means, no Largos.
Dungeon running is one way. Find casual ones to start with, the ‘all are welcome’ ones, not speed clears or ones that have gear/achievement point requirements.
The Silverwastes are actually pretty good. Lots of bags of gear, bandit chests to open.
Doing farming runs of nodes and selling what you gather isn’t too bad, but it can be time consuming.
Promoting lower level mats to higher level has been suggested by some.
Trading post flipping has also been suggested, but having enough gold to start is needed.
They block them as soon as they are reported. What more can they do? It is not their fault that accounts got compromised.
No they don’t and that is the problem. Three times in the last week when I was in DR doing some banking and selling stuff I was being spammed by the same gold seller once a minute. I would report him each time, but nothing stopped. This went on for 1/2 hour with a total of 30 reports every day it happened. If the same spammer can show up and harass me for three days in a row then from my perspective they are doing nothing to stop it.
They block them within 24 hours of bring reported. Obviously it’s not going to be immediately. Each report has to go to someone, it goes to the bottom of their work list, and it needs to be checked out. It’s pointless to report the same one more than once as it adds to their work load without accomplishing anything.
And I’ve never gotten the same message twice from a gold seller because I block them. If you aren’t blocking then don’t complain about spam.

They might be using accounts bought the last time they went on sale. It’s possible they buy a number of these to use when they don’t have stolen accounts. As long as they get enough buyers to cover costs and make a profit, then they’re ahead. Even if the account is deactivated before it makes a sale, the advertisement brings customers into their site.
