“Or they birthday gifts… EVERYONE was expecting a nice minipet pack. Instead, we got a Jennah, some booster (which was bugged and totally destroyed the non-existing Pvp economy) and an useless scroll. "

Not me, I read what they posted on the site that we would get and expected that.

Now I wish I could sell off the extra Jennnnaaawwww minis or forge them for something worthwhile, but I wasn’t expecting a pack.

There’s one quote from the Risen that works best for newbies in my opinion:
“Kill….everything.”

If you are at level with some creature or one level above or below and its name is in red or yellow, take it down. Sometimes they drop stuff, but most importantly you get EXP. Take any and all exp boosters you can get and use them.

Explore the maps, do jumping puzzles, help in events, revive folks, climb every mountain, ford every stream, follow every rainbow, till you find your dream…
(takes a second to stop his Sound of Music MP3s while posting)

If you see a large group of people (basically called a zerg or train) killing a Champion join in! When he’s taken down maybe you’ll get something neat.

Also a guild helps most folks. I don’t join them but I don’t mind being outside grunt work for bounties and such. Replace armor and weapons if you find better stats and don’t worry about the looks of them. Believe me you’ll have plenty of time going over your look when you reach level 80 and have most of the map explored.

Also telling folks here what server you are on wouldn’t be a bad idea. If you are on Isle of Janthir you can message me and I’ll travel a bit with you to help when I’m online.

EDIT: Just thought of something else, what if you added a living story button/option/whatever to the UI where the personal story is located? That way you can recap, and add to the story after it happens in real world

That’s been requested many times, so far I think they are trying to work on something like that but apparently putting it to the UI isn’t easy.

We haven’t revealed her motive yet. I can understand the confusion and/or frustration surrounding that so we’re looking at ways to accelerate the plot and implement some features that will make it easier to track Living World content. The first phase of that system will be implemented before the end of the year.

Someone contact the execs at Fox! This needs to get cancelled quick!

But Joss Whedon isn’t attached to GW2, therefore it has a chance to survive.

I never played it so I have no reference.

Players could build their own cities, with ranks according to population. There was a “politician” profession where you could become a mayor at the highest rank (profession points were refundable in this game, so one toon could be anything, but had limited points to spend. Which was good because you only got one toon per server).

Best part though, was that players could build bases in or around their cities that could be attacked and destroyed by enemies. So if you were Rebel, Imperials could come and destroy your base and vice versa. It was a real motivator for guilds and alliances to plan offense and defense. The open world battles would last hours on end.

And yes, there was GvG in SWG

Sounds like a reason to have WvW then lol.

If this game followed the route that GW1 had, their first expansion would have been like Factions and I would have hated it then loved the second expansion.
(badumtish)

In all seriousness I like this system better than the expansion system of old.
First and foremost I don’t feel like I’m behind on the game if I joined up now.
I’ll use GW1 for example. I remember, and still see it in some forums, when newbies to GW1 would ask “What package/Expansion should I get?”

Then comes the breakdown of each package, expansion, bundled edition, whatever.

With this system step 1 is “Purchase GW2 and download”. Boom. Done deal you don’t need to worry about picking up Prophecies because the storyline wasn’t so rushed compared to Factions or pick up Nightfall if you want heroes.

There’s less confusion and the player can just go play.

Secondly with the current system you have reduced the amount of “old” content and catching up that way. If someone is dead in the Living Story during Chapter #(blabeededah) then he/she is dead afterwards. I remember buddies joking how they miss Rurik after Prophecies was over, but if they wanted all they needed to do was “time travel” to Fort Ranik and there he is!

Does this pose a problem for people missing a chapter or two in the current system? Yeah, but with the proper lore system in game (which we really do need) you could catch up.

Does this infuriate the folks who “feel forced” to play every release? Probably, but that isn’t really the problem of the game designer but more on the players and their expectations. If you feel forced then chances are you should re-evaluate your priorities in gaming life. I’ve never liked the idea that some missions or some lands are verboten to mess with because it would mess with a previous expansion.

I’m not saying this system is absolutely perfect. When they announced the two weeks release schedule, I just grabbed my popcorn and said that this will be an interesting experiment. We still don’t have a lore system in place to catch people up in game. I’m glad to read that they are trying to implement such a thing.

I just wished that for the big ticket items in the continuing story they could dedicate a whole month of releases to it, then do the two week releases for minor things in story.
That way the stuff doesn’t feel incomplete at times and could tell a full story within a few months then move to the next.

GW2 with a housing system, GvG halls for those who are into that sort of thing, and a better definition of how the heck WvWvW fits into the lore and why PvE folks should even bother with it.

We need a more defined language to determine what your looking for in LFG.

How about:

2. Experienced only: We’re slightly below 1 (but not by much)
3. Pretty experienced folks: We’re kinda cool and don’t mind a few wipes
4. New to explorer mode: You might want to bring some drinks
5. New to story mode: You definitely want to bring some drinks
6. We’ve been smoking pot all day: Wipes…who cares mon!

Can I add 3 and 6 together? Granted I don’t smoke but I do love Cheetos.

Carth Blair my Human Guardian lived in the Shiverpeaks more than anywhere else in his life. Though his heritage was Ascalonian, it has been far too long since he has seen those lands. As such, he has no real nostalgia to it, but the one who started his family line (my GW1 warrior) would have approved to retaking the old lands.

Dancing Joker my Human thief is more Krytan and was raised culturally Canthan to some degree. His hatred is focused more on the Centaurs at the moment since they pose a threat to Divinity’s Reach. If the Queen ordered it, he would assist however he could, but there’s no real emotion to it. He would just follow orders.

My non human characters would range from “I’ll help the humans, it might be fun” to “I’ll skin the humans for taking my lands.”

Would pve skins from pvp make you play more?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

But regardless, that’s not what stops a PvE person from doing PvP. What stops them is, they simply don’t consider PvP fun.

Thank you, absolutely spot on.
I don’t mind competitive player versus player like the Crab Toss or something along Keg Brawl. It is the “control this spot and kill other players” type of game that isn’t fun for me.

Which means sPvP and WvWvW is not fun to me.
If they had some form of competition game where my team and another team tried to accomplish something the quickest, like a Guild Puzzle, then maybe I’d play that.

Sadly ANet’s direction with sPvP is this “go bash in that person” mode of gameplay only.

Farm is fun, we get it.

It is. It’s the core of MMOs. MMOs can’t survive on gameplay alone. They make sacrifices in gameplay and mechanics in order to be an MMO. The exchange is constant character progression. Right now GW2 has made sacrifices in its gameplay to be an MMO, but offers nothing in return. You get to the level cap and your progression for the most part completely ends. It’s a little silly.

Farming is a chore to some and isn’t fun. They try to avoid it as much possible.
In GW2 I’m thankful that farming isn’t the need-all-be-all to the game because if so it would be uninstalled quickly.

Freedom for Sylvari?

in Clockwork Chaos

Posted by: Atlas.9704

Atlas.9704

The soundless aren’t weaker, they are just more vulnerable. They are born into the world with the same advantages as other sylvari (they still dream before awakening) just they choose to go out on their own. The Weeping Isle where they live is outside the borders of the Warden’s protection. The Soundless aren’t protected by the other sylvari and that’s why they are more vulnerable (it doesn’t help that they are so close to a Nightmare Court encampment). If the Lion Guard keeping the trade routes in the area had finished building their haven, they’d have more time to protect the area and the Soundless. The Soundless live on the front lines and so they are attacked more often, to call them weaker than the sylvri in the protection of the grove would be like calling the humans that live in Kessex Hills weaker than the humans that live in Divinity’s Reach.

The Soundless remind me people who move out of home and live without the support or aid of their parents compared to those who still live at home.

Well that’s why I put in quotes around the term. I’ll admit vulnerable is probably the better description. I just chose weaker because if the Court is constantly harassing you and there’s a smaller community yes you are more vulnerable and, by extension, weaker than those who have a bigger base of operations and populace to help.

Of course at this point I’m mixing in a military mindset with them, so that’s why I thought the way I did.
