Anet should encourage people to use their races cities – not ensure they all just hang around Lion’s Arch all day.

This was a big problem with GW1 as well. Every main city of the game was dead except for Lion’s Arch (in Tyria, anyway). They should want Charr to hang out in the Black Citadel – Asura to hang out in Rata sum, etc.

Like make the “mini LA” areas in each city only available to that specific race. That’d keep it “exclusive” while still being open to everybody of that race so that they have somewhere else to be other than Lion’s Arch.

Problem is players will still try to find that one “hub” where every one is.
Part of this is on the player’s actions, it isn’t just all on ANet.
Take for example daily central, aka Queensdale. I don’t see many Charr in the Plains of Ashford doing their dailies (unless Ascalonian killer is in it), usually folks just pile up there because….well ‘everyone’ is there.

The sylvari are omnivorous humanoid plants. Some sylvari closely resemble humans but with a fey cast to their features such as tilted eyes and pointed ear tips; most display plantlike features such as hard wood for bone structure, have foliage and petals for hair, and bark acting as flesh. Golden sap moves through their veins instead of blood and pollen falls off of them as they move.

So they do have sap, not blood also based on other interviews I don’t think they have internal organs like humans do.

Why can't ALL races join the collages

If you looking for test subjects just snatch some of the inquest and the Elder Dragon champions and minions they keep for pets. It would actually give them a particular purpose.

Too rambunctious and dangerous, I do like working with subjects who only complain about my miserly nature when it comes to payment instead of those who want to turn me into a minion. Thus Humans are the most “fun” to work with. Most don’t even ask for academic recognition, but rather trinkets! The Sylvari are even more malleable because they want “experience” more than a footnote in my papers.

Oh I do enjoy utilizing them for the dirty work. I try not to put my favorites into too much danger, but science can be tricky with new things.

However what is your opinion on the Hylek being elevated to our level within the near future? Their alchemical knowledge would be beneficial to us.

Near future is a very optimistic goal, but I believe they can be worked with.
After all they do recognize the importance of a stellar fusion reactor like the sun.
We just need to be careful with them on the subject of religion or whatever belief system they have.

I would like to get my hands on some of their psychedelic substances for a modification to the Peacemaker Golems I have been concocting.

Why can't ALL races join the collages

in Asura

Posted by: Atlas.9704

Atlas.9704

We could not possibly accept the other races into our collegiate institutions.
They would just simply not understand, or at worst destroy themselves in the process.
If that were to happen where am I to get proper test sub…er I mean assistants?

The Norn are too enamored with their “spirits” and would wreck labs with their physical transformations. Though I will pause to admit it would be hilarious to use them as mascots for the next Golem tournament.

The Sylvari would be interesting, but I factor that our experimentations on one of their own could backfire on us diplomatically somehow. I just don’t feel comfortable bringing them closer into our facilities.

The Charr could be a possible candidate, but they are too close minded with their hierarchical thinking of the Legions first and their warbands. Yes it is quite similar to our krewes and colleges. There are differences; where we simply have the courtesy to sabotage each other and politically decimate our rivals the Charr have teeth, claws, and little self restraint in killing things in their way. Krewe/Warband rivalries would not end well mark my predictions.

That leaves the humans, silly bookahs. Though I do enjoy their silly antics as they beg their “gods” for help, I cannot see us elevating them to a level above the hylek really.
Their guilds and wars really did damage their mental capacity. It was only the near extinction of their race that helped them focus and even then they still deal with internal fights.

Ask yourselves this question: Do you really want to give them the potential of our tech in their hands? Only trained Asuran krewes should operate such items. They are too childish at the moment.

Oh sure their watchknight experiment is interesting, but they don’t even have the proper ethereal security measures in place to prevent them from being hijacked!

I don’t care what we get just NOT mini’s please, I’m sick of them already and swear I will no longer buy anymore. I bought 2 packs of minis at the Halloween event to have all 4 and regret it now with all the new ones so often….

Perhaps if they let us have more than 1 out at a time, hmmm perhaps maybe 3, that could change my mind but that’s not gonna happen……

To which I do agree a bit, we have a lot of minis. I just enjoy collecting and selling the extras.

If they went with town clothes, normal looking seasonal ones, again that would be interesting. Then again I’m still waiting for some sort of wardrobe storage like LOTRO has. There’s so much potential there especially with the hardcore RP folks.

Trahearne has a lot of potential if they actually delve into his backstory and his personality as a scholar.

Problem is, the NPCs worship him. So is it Trahearne we don’t like, or the NPCs?

For me it was that I didn’t like how ANet had him as a focus instead of Destiny’s Edge for the main storyline.
I would have been happy had he been the dungeon runner/Indiana Jones type of guy who was looking for things that could stop the dragons.

This way his scholarly side would have been invaluable and he would have needed you to complete these journeys. We, the players, could have bonded with him a bit better as you progressed through the dungeon stories. Heck it would have allowed the devs to use him in future Living story chapters too.

Now? He’s just uninspiring to me and locked away in Orr because we can’t meddle with that thanks to the shackles of the Personal Story.

Welcome SilentDream to a game that is unlike the traditional MMO formula for some things.

My advice is to go slow, take in the sights, talk with the NPCs, ask questions to any guildies or friends you have. Read the wiki if you need some more information on background, and consult dulfy’s site if you want more on the nuts and bolts of certain things.

Like the others said collect every node you can find then deposit it all in the bank. You might not craft yet, but when you do this will be worth it.
Do all the events, follow an NPC around if you are interested in what they are doing. For all you know that might just unlock another activity or mission for you.

Complete your starting zone, explore that part of the map, move on to the other race’s maps, and explore every home city and Lion’s Arch. You are getting experience points and some goodies just for enjoying the game’s art.

If you have played previous MMORPGs don’t think in their terms. You will either get confused or ticked off. Take the mindset of a person who just moved into a city they’ve never visited. Sure that’s scary, but exciting, and you’ll have a lot to learn.

Also trust yourself with the game. If people in game or in forums are grumping over something but you like it, you aren’t wrong. They probably just had different expectations. If you enjoy something in the game keep pursuing it, even if it might not be the most efficient way to get XP or gold.

Enjoy the ride, take in the sights, and explore everything.

A Memorable Personal Story?

in Personal Story

Posted by: Atlas.9704

Atlas.9704

What they could have done was take a page from GW1 and have a “Pre Ascalon” tutorial zone. Replace “Pre Ascalon” with your personal story.
Take the early two Parts of stories (Levels 1 -20), scale them down in level requirement, then have the player run through them.

After that the Personal Story ends. The Order, Pact, and Orr mission parts could have been still instanced missions like they are now. The difference is instead of relying on the personal story markers you could have used the actual Order HQ to access those missions until you finally reach Fort Trinity. At Trinity the Orr missions are available to run through.

After that there’s the dungeon at Arah. This way the later stories could be seen as mini-dungeons. This way there’s not too much contamination with some characters in the Personal Story if the Living story kills them off in the “future”.

That said, I still think Knut’s task of actually capturing that darn thing and somehow getting it up that mountain is a heck of a lot more impressive than a bunch of us basically hacking a captive worm to death, but … I guess with Norn’s it’s all about taking what you can get. Put another way: you are already upstaged by someone else on your very first quest — but that gives you something to strive for.

Oh I agree, Knut is a great hunter and powerful Norn.
He’s in charge of Hoelbrak for Spirit’s sake!
But the moot he hosted goes to show his generosity and hopefully it will be a grand example for fellow Norn in the future.

If anything our legends and stories owe a bit of thanks to him because he gave us that starting boost. If we can outshine him, which we do by killing Zhaitan later, then we are doing what Norn should do!

Of course I like it because in another game I play they have a similar ritual, but you actually do hunt down the creature with a group. If it is killed, those that survive were awarded titles and respect.

You survived Issormir and killed it, yeah there were some other guys probably to help.

A noob's take on things

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Atlas.9704

Atlas.9704

You are suffering from a chronic disease called “Did not read”. Take your time and it should go away.

I did read the “pamphlet” that came with the game and it instructed me which keys to hit to perform attacks and how to access my inventory and hero accoutrements. Was there something more specific you were referring to?

The game itself has quite a lot when you look at the environment.
Don’t get me wrong, GW2 really does have some problems teaching new people.
Part of it is, aside from the beginner missions, there’s not much on help aside from the less than helpful tips. At least we get achievement points if we unlock all those.

The game is very much centered on trying to have you ‘right there’ instead of stepping back, like most games, and offer a Out of Character tutorial. I have seen the disconnect with some people on that. Though for folks like me, who normally don’t like more traditional RPGs, this was more of a selling point.

This new content. Firstly, I kept amassing these ‘support’ tokens instead of any real loot. Had no clue what to do with them and still have them taking up space in my bank. So, I hear this chick won this election instead of this bad dude. All well and good….

Ah yes the Living Story, someday it will click for you. Honestly some of us were lost on some things, but stuff does tend to link together somehow. Look at that as if you just started watching a TV show before actually seeing the first few episodes. Eventually you do work out things as it goes on, but you might still be lost on others. The Personal Story for the Human characters introduces people like the Queen, Logan, and Anise. Those were the people in that instanced part of the Jubilee.

I would say that a good informative guild, or even just knowledgeable friends on your list, is a necessary thing for you to get the full impact of the world.
This isn’t going to be one of those standard fare MMOs where you play in one area until you get corralled to another area and keep going until DING you’re finally leveled up.

It is more akin to being in a city that you’ve never been in before.
There’s always the wiki and dulfy’s site if you get lost, but I do urge that you take your time and talk with everyone (NPC) you can find. Scouts and Heralds are good places to start for information on either the area (Scouts) or what’s going on in the Living Story (Heralds).

Watchknights' chests....

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: Atlas.9704

Atlas.9704

I see them as a combination of art and technology.
The Golems created by the Asura are powerful, but they were built more for function than art.
These Watchknights are the Queen’s showpieces to say “We can make powerful and beautiful stuff”. Why the female body and not the male? Maybe because the sleeker lines work better for aesthetics.

Would I be upset if they made male Watchknights? No, but then again I’d think it would have been predictable for them to make giant suits of armor which move.

This was a different approach and I welcome it. In a way the Queen honors Lyssa by making these Watchknights the way they are. Since she’s a Mesmer that also speaks to the design.

They have no influence within the other Legions, they are constantly hunted by their own people, and the Charr High Command just made peace with humans, thus killing off one potential war with another race. That gives the other Legions breathing room to hunt down Flame faster.

I would say that yes, some outsider with incredible power and the potential to give them Dredge tech would be a fine carrot for discussions. When you get desperate enough, anything is a possibility.

I think Dragon Bash could come back next year. ANet has been giving that feeling within interviews that this year’s celebrations were being set up for use next year.
I don’t know if they’ll have the wings or something newer, but here’s hoping all the same.

Sylvari

Well the first one was Humans and the Karkha with a Sylvari bad guy, but like we’ve all agreed that’s not much for substance.
Then the next one was Norn and Charr based, then we went back to the Lions Arch area for a while. Now we’re dealing with Asura/Human pirate blending.
We have 4 of the races mixed together as villans and have as Heroes:
1 Charr
1 Norn
3 Female Humans

So I think after the Jubilee and maybe one other story chapter we’ll probably see Sylvari as some focus, either for good or ill. Hopefully both, but I’m dreaming too big right now.

Oh it was definitely wanted back in gw1. The flipping box art had a cool image of a mesmer holding one, but it was never in the game, and melee mesmers weren’t exactly viable.

Oh I loved her…I mean I loved her design!
Yeah such a cool look.
(nervous chuckle)

Holy Six I just realized mesmers had their hooks in me even way back in GW1 era.

Jubilee first, personal story later and you are welcome once you see the benefits.

I’m not raising my hand up, but rather posting to say I’ve met one of your folks.
I kind of felt bad for them when some one tried to troll them into a religion discussion just because of your guild name.

They stuck to their guns and acted in a mature manner, clarifying that this was more of a Fire Emblem thing than anything else.

So kudos to that person.
