As mentioned different builds and gear, but also you have to buy the tokens, make the server, get in the server and what if you want to duel your necro buddy after a few rounds with the warrior friend?

It is just a pain in the kitten , you know? Being able to just right click, pick duel and 3 seconds later you and a buddy are going at it, just sounds so much better and will be used so much more in my opinion.

Oh I understand completely, that’s why I would hope the changes would go into WvW mostly. Though you know how ANet looooves their gem store and I can see them utilize such a change to custom arenas as yet another point in purchasing the server.
Plus it would give the more affluent guilds another reason to keep their custom arena servers going. Want to challenge the head boss for a fun game? Have at thee! I could see how some of the Charr roleplayers could really get into using that for guild affairs.

The complexities of PVE skill balancing versus PvP will eventually lead to certain skills being altered for one but not the other. We saw that with GW1 and I will harbor no fantasies whatsoever that they’ll never do it here.

Sadly that’s the nature of the beast, so if duels were allowed they would still be in the PvP Mist area where sPvP and WvW reside. Thus it would be easier if (or when) such things will occur.

Being able to right click, pick duel, and battle a buddy in PvE map does sound easier. Though I worry about the PvE trolls, or worse yet the truly absent minded, who would just run by with a trail of mobs following. That would disrupt your fun.
Sure you could just move to an area in the map where there aren’t any mobs, but then you’ve willingly segregated yourself from the PvE activity only to fight with a friend who equally has to make this effort to join you.

It would be so much easier if you could click, get sent to the duel designated instance, and then hammer your buddy straight into the Mists!
I guess the other reason why I support it being in WvW as a selectable instance would be for the foot traffic there. It could pull some of the sPvP players out into WvW to at least give it a look before dueling with a friend.

Well now I’m going back to where I started, which means pretty much I’m out of contributions to this thread. Take care, I have more grumping about map completion and WvW in other threads to do.

Oh don’t worry I won’t take offense because I’ve already stated my mind on it.
In fact my post history still reflects that even in earlier discussions about this.
I just always want to make sure that if such a thing is put in it will be done correctly and will benefit the game modes so players have a richer experience.

I for one might never play duels, but if WvW finally received an update for instanced dueling or even if Arenas could allow PvE equipment I’d say “good on ya”.

Sadly though I give this thread a day before it gets merged into the other duel thread lol.

Costume brawls which rarely, if ever, show up on the PvE map but mostly in Lion’s Arch?
Seriously I don’t remember ever seeing anyone do Costume Brawl outside of Lion’s Arch because they know of the dangers that reside in doing that “outside”.

I just simply shrug because they aren’t in the outside game world, but rather an instanced area. Which is why I recommend that any dueling component be put in a instanced spot.

Since there is no overarching government towards adoption (best as I can tell) I don’t think this is an issue for a Sylvari to adopt a child.

The Personal story is basic at best, it scales up in terms of importance, and does give us a (rather unfulfilling) final battle with a Dragon. I didn’t mind it much. Its just he was the point in which I couldn’t understand why they put him in.

Not true, the Alchemy does factor in the Gods.

They are merely cogs in the machine, Kormir is that one piece you never really wanted but somehow the manufacturing company still crammed it in there.

Get rid of Trahearne, replace him with one of your racial heroes from Destiny’s Edge.
Have the personal missions pretty much go like they normally do, have your race hero leave you to the order you chose like normal.

From there have your Order Mentor lead you to Claw (Clawrrrrr) Island still die
The leader of the Order then takes you in as you try to work with the other orders until we reach the moment where the Pact needs to be formed. Since they can’t accept you because you are with an order, out steps your race hero from Destiny’s Edge.

He/she works with you on missions leading to Orr and into it. All the while realizing that if the Orders can work together why not the Destiny’s Edge? Eventually the race hero brings together each of the Orders Masters and declares you pro-tem Marshall since you have been working with all three Orders and have been under the tutelage of your Destiny’s Edge member.

Final battle into Orr, kill off the final champion Eyeball. Rejoice, but then your Racial Hero pulls you to the side and says this only weakened the Dragon. The final fight is in the last dungeon. The last dungeon will NOT include a gunship press ‘2’ fight sequence.

Storyline over, the Edge is rebuilt, the Orders now work as the Pact, you are the second in command while Destiny’s Edge works together to hold the Pact.

I’ve always wondered why WvW doesn’t have some form of instanced PvP where small groups of players fight against each other for points. It would give those that don’t like zerging a chance to still contribute to the server.

We could apply something like that to ‘honor duels’ where you could duel in WvW instanced just for fun or your victory adds some amount of points to the bigger total.

Says a number of folks who want open PvP “Because I want it”. So apparently both sides have selfish folks.

If dueling was put away in some form of sPvP where you can communicate with others I have no problems with it. This way you won’t have PvE folks running around and triggering Dynamic Events or mobs just to kill you and ruin your experience.

On the subject of open world dueling. Yes I did forget all about it, because I said my peace on it and why it won’t work here.
In the PvE environment there is no reason for dueling. You have places to fight other players. Those are called the sPvP areas and WvWvW, plus there is always the custom arena.

PvP is separated from PvE, that’s how it was in GW1 and it worked out well. There’s no sense in combining them now. This isn’t about ‘being a coward’ or ‘refusing and looking bad’, it is about game structure and flow.

If they ever do adjust skills for PvP different than PvE then how in the Six Gods/Pale Tree/Eternal Alchemy would they balance it if the blasted modes were mixed in the PvE world? One could say they have a mode switch that allows you to be purely PvP in the PvE like some other online games.

If that’s the case why bother adding such a ridiculous notion in this game when there are perfectly good spots to kill another player?

To those who want such an event I ask how well received would it be if PvE folks started demanding PvE dynamic events in PvP territory? Now your game mode isn’t about skill against another player, its about half baked game modes clashing together.

We already have such a abomination now, it is called WvWvW.

So in short: If dueling is instanced, pushed away in its own sPvP corner, I have no problems with it. Adding it to PvE is ridiculous and not worth the time when you factor in that your duel will be interrupted by PvE griefers pulling a mob train to mess up your game.

Addendum: I do fully agree with the idea of letting your PvE gear be used in a custom arena. In fact that should be a checkbox selectable for your custom arena ‘Allow PvE gear’ or something. if that is a decent compromise.

Belcher’s Bluff is the minigame for the Order of Whispers drinking game that I liked.
I do like Aspect Arena over the Crab toss, but Dragon Ball wins over those two.

I still want the bar brawl. Maybe I’ll get lucky and it will show up next release.

My main went through the Personal story and completed. The others have not.
I have written them as “after” the Dragon’s death or just simply around during that time, but have not climbed the ranks of the Order to Second in Command of the Pact.

As someone who has played Guardian as his main since launch, yeah the others are spot on. It isn’t about raw healing, but rather the boons and keeping the group alive in that manner.

“Save yourself” allows you to strip off conditions from nearby allies, put them on yourself, and then you get a nice set of boons for a short time. With that you just prevented the enemy from doing extra condition damage to your friends. If you use Smite Condition then that cures conditions and deals extra damage to the enemy.

So as a Guardian it isn’t about making sure health bar go up, but rather how to shift the conditions and damage in a way to keep everyone going and still put hurt on the mobs.

I wasn’t suggesting u delete any of ur chars, goodness no, i never do that lol, well it depends what lvl they are. I was merely thinking if u have a spare char slot as i did, or intend to get one then do that process b4 u lvl ur new char.

And just to show you my ele’s eye, here’s a pic, it’s very reminiscent of gw1 ele’s eye and that’s why i wanted it. Only gw1 was even better as it had the relevant elemental aura (ie: red for fire, blue for water etc) circling the head.

I’ve filled all my character slots, one for each profession. I’m not planning on buying 800 gems to get another one. Once again it just isn’t worth that much effort for a skin when ANet can eventually fix it.

To be honest I never researched any other servers. I never cared too much about them.
I would just want a PVE server that has decent activity during the CST zone and isn’t so demanding that people do WvWvW.

Don’t know if anyone has mentioned it, but there’s a method u can get back ur starter gear. I did it for my ele eye pce.

U need an empty char slot. Start a new necro and choose the mask u want. On TP look for a low lvl plain white mask and transmute the starter item onto it with a basic transmute stone. This process makes it acct bound and then u can give it to any of ur chars.

If ur necro is lvl 80 and u have a lvl 75-80 exotic head pce u have to use Transmutation Crystal (the old fine transmute stone) to be able to transmute it onto it.

I’ve seen the steps, but I’m not going to delete a character and then make up a disposable one just for that. The time and money (gems or gold) just aren’t worth the cost.

Though thanks for the contribution, but the way I see it if ANet is willing to sell low level weapons and armor, give GW1 vets access to skins that remind us somewhat of older armor designs, then why not give us starter skin packs to buy with in game gold?

I’ve tried sPVP, WvWvW, and the themed PVP fights like Dragon Ball and this new Aspect Arena.
2. Tried it and liked it or not?
Bored of sPVP, I hate WvWvW because it is mandatory for world completion plus the armor repairs (seriously?! Remove it!), I actually enjoy the themed PVP games.
3. Are active PVP players?
Nope, I’m active PVE and apparently plan to stay that way.
4. Done both WvW and PVP: which do you prefer and why?
If I’m only given the choice of those two then neither. Both are frustrating or just not worth my time.

Its based on all those ghostly women stories dealing with hitchhikers and such. Still nice of ANet to put down something like that as an event.

My Norn are the biggest reason I play GW2. I loved Jora, loved the Norn Story, it is, by far, the reason I play this.

My norn remain as made at Char Creation, no tattoos, very nordic, more tanned than Jora and a bit shorter. One Fair Skinned. No Eir hair, most have the simple braids, for me, the most practical and what I did with my hair over a lifetime of outdoor activities. Im happy with them. They wear mostly Cultural Norn Armor mixed with Vigil, no bells, whistles, or shiny effects. Weaponry is the same, simple effective skins, not large, and no particle effects. Not much I want to add or change. I adore my Norn girls, more than any other chars in any games, of any race. I could not be happier.

I can’t seem to work lighting because it looks like more of a melee aspect.
Good for holding down certain choke points, but I’m always moving.
I love this game though and would play it more than any sPVP game, possibly due to the fact your skill bars are all the same (unless you chose a different aspect). I guess that’s why I like Dragon Ball and the crab and keg games too.

My main (Human Guardian) is starting to shape up the way I envisioned. Since he’s the descendant of my GW1 character I wanted some similarities. His face and build looks alike, almost as if the looks of someone are passed down certain generations.
His armor doesn’t look like the Templar armor of old, the Heritage stuff just doesn’t do well for me, but the Lionguard style really does give him some personality.

My secondary (Sylvari Ranger) at first looked “off” with human clothing. After mixing and matching cultural armor and hiding the helmet he is shaping up somewhat to how I wanted him. I do need to collect more plant based weapons though so he will be complete.

The other six aren’t shaping up at the moment because I haven’t focused too much on them. The exception being my Charr Engineer. Oh thank you ANet for Aether armor. That was exactly what I needed and I happily threw gems at them for it.

Out of all of them two are probably the most in trouble of just not “being right”. One is my Necro Norn and the other Sylvari Elementalist. The Norn just doesn’t look good in the armor that is listed in the 40+ level and other ones I can craft have the most stupid looking masks. I feel bad I lost his skull face from the beginning, because I should have kept it. ANet LET ME CRAFT FACE PAINT! (earlier I said masks, but that’s a bit misleading to what I want.)

My Elementalist isn’t shaping up because the armor for them doesn’t have enough flow. I might go with Devout and Caudecus’ Manor style for the majority of it since that gives me a Monk-style I can enjoy. I wanted him to have loose flowing robes like an Airbender (yeah I watched my DVDs when I started constructing him). I don’t want tight clothing on him because, to me at least, that works better on a thief than a free spirited Sylvari who is learning and playing with the elements.

Never really wheeled and dealed in the old days of GW1. I hoareded everything I collected, which killed my storage with Xunlai.
Now I can admit I bought something, can’t remember for the life of me what it was, but back then I had friends who I simply messaged and got my needs filled.

Still even if those methods were “Neolithic” you still didn’t have to worry about taxes. If your prices were fair, you profit, if not then adjust your tactics.

Her voice has some emotion to it, even if it is the standard serious cop voice.
In the dialogue you get when you talk with her my accomplishments are mentioned in a fairly casual way. In Audience with the Master my character mentions how at least there’s no angry karka and she replies that at least she would know what they want. Even though this dialogue might be considered bland in scripting it sounds more personal. As if she and my character have recounted a bit of a war story.

Her attitude seems more grounded compared to Evon.

Once again in the Audience where Evon talks about how he is beloved by his people like a slimy oil salesman would she merely states “Well…I’m rather well liked, I suppose”. So with that last bit there’s some form of vulnerability. She’s not doing this completely for herself. Magnus the Bloody Handed threw her into this at the end of Sky Pirates, she’s trying to do as best possible.

She knows that Evon could smear the floor with her, but she’s still going to try. I respect that. We get all this from 3 episodes of the Living Story. What do we get about Evon? He’s rich, he’s the founder of a trading company that I’m not a big fan of, and he’s only doing this to further his company.

I can’t begrudge him that last part, he’s trying to expand his company’s power. The problem I have is there’s very little interaction with him before this whole politics plotline.

Also she’s Lionguard and my main character has that design of armor because I’m writing him up as an admirer of their work. She’s cute, yeah that’s shallow but it is a factor, and overall I have had more time with her than Evon so I can’t really side with him.

As for the Personal Stories, there was talk on a twitch video that they hope to come back to this mechanic at some point but they need to look into some things.

I’ve tried to grab crystals, got one at least, then I try to PK those going after any team mate of mine that has a crystal.
