Maybe I have a different memory of GW1 story, most of my memory is of the prophecies campaign, but that storyline was laughable. Every 5 missions your ally would betray you and you would stumble upon a new ally. I have never seen someone switch sides so many times as your character in gw1.

Agreed, when the Vizier shows up I kept thinking “When does the backstab happen?” (Time passes through missions) “Ohhhh okay there we go, now off to kill him.”

The problem I have with folks just wanting to rush straight to the next dragon is this: If we just jumped Dragon to Dragon what do we kill after they are all dead?

We need to build up more “home” enemies. Flame and Frost gave us the Molten Alliance. That’s an okay start. Then the Aetherblades became the resident trololololo forces near Lion’s Arch and in Divinity’s Reach.

Scarlet is introduced and I’ll await more before I decide if I just don’t like her.

What about the Centaurs? The Hylek? Surely some of the lesser races have to be taking some opportunities to expand their influence while we constantly scream that we want to take on just the Dragons.

I don’t mind it being a temporary thing.
For me it keeps that novelty.

Pirate grog and the ability to dye weapons.
Yeah that’s about it for me.

I can’t retire a character.
Emotionally I just can’t.
I’ll re-trait them, I’ll re-armor, re-equip, and basically replay them in a different light if I can.
If I can’t, I will just not use that character slot because I know one day I’d regret hitting that delete button.

The “soul” of adventuring is still there.
Face facts, Adventure Box turned out to be a fun thing for a lot of people.
It is optional, more akin to a rotating holiday activity.
It will arrive, then it will leave, eventually to come back again some other month.

Now there’s an interesting idea for a “tutorial” level 0. Use the framework of the box to help new players to the basics of the game. Then spit them out into their respective home cities afterwards.

Well, there’s also the soundless, a group of sylvari that decided to separate themselves from the pale tree and the dream but without succumbing to the nightmare (and actually, some choose to do that because they fear the nightmare that sometimes creeps its way into the dream).

True but currently the Soundless, to me at least, are the ‘weaker’ faction within the Sylvari. They do tend to go their own way and that is admirable, but they are also constantly harassed by the Nigthmare Court more because they are that vulnerable.

At least that’s what I took away from it within my time in the Forest doing hearts and talking to the NPCs.

Scarlet’s actions could be lumped in with the Soundless, but in a more aggressive manner. If anything she could recruit them because you can fight the nightmare and go your own way without succumbing to it.

If done right she can show that Sylvari can make their own path without falling into either “Yay Mother tree” or “Evil cackling Nightmare” camps.

We are dealing with a race that, from day one, is ready to start impacting the world. There’s no childhood, there’s no growing up into adulthood and then they alter the world. There’s just pop out of the cocoon and boom population explosion if it wanted to happen.

The two things that are holding back the Sylvari are their tenants and fears. They either have to listen to Pale Tree or risk the Nightmare as if it was a religious decision.
Scarlet’s plan to reject both will throw a wrench in the Sylvari mindset, ultimately changing how they could shape the world if this works.

The Pale Tree was obviously aware of these things and we’ve met her avatar before, so maybe we could have an audience with her/it. Or some of Scarlet’s fellow students at Rata Sum. Or even some Hyleks. There’s plenty of options to put this information in-game!

For all we know they might do something like that in the future.
Scarlet is now public to the game world (read that as to us the players).

The game’s lore is fun to experience, but then sometimes you (Anet) supplement it with stories outside the game.

There is a slight problem with that: folks that just play the game, those that don’t really look on the site or forums, miss out on neat things like this.

We need some form of lore tab which describes what is going on with the Living Story. Maybe even have links to the wiki or these types of short stories in it.

The game already has a “Personal Story” tab which briefly describes the choices you made in that. So we already know such a thing can exist.

I’m not saying it would be a simple thing, but it would be a helpful thing for those who want to know what is currently going on and what happened when they didn’t log in to events like Southsun or Flame and Frost.

Chances are someone else thought of this idea and possibly even posted in this Suggestions forum, but the forum search is a sad broken joke at the moment.

Dungeons were pretty easy to figure out, for me at least, but I do agree that Mystic toilet would need something to help explain (in game role) what it is about.

I encountered a strange phenomena while doing Scarlet’s minion map invasion event (Mount Maelstorm btw) . During the entire event, Scarlet spawned on me over 12 times (lost count -_-). And by that I mean, she knocked my character off and literally spawned at exact same spot.

I am usually alone or have 3-4 people around in event as I avoid zergs. But she spawned on me in every possible scenario. (Alone, with zerg, with few people, within a red event circle, far away from any event circle)

After the final wave was done, . I knew she was going to spawn on me so I was going to the zerg on the map and when she did spawn as expected. I was getting close to the zerg but it was very clear she didnt spawn on the zerg.

I was on the map before event started (was doing jump puzzle) so it may have been the reason why she stalked me but I am not sure.

Has anyone else had similar problem?

Show us on the fern where the bad Sylvari hit you.
Actually I haven’t had a spawn problem with her, most of the time she’s nearly dead from group attacks when I get there.

The thing I’m really looking forward to is the moment where something bad happens, and the NPCs say “Shoo. We don’t need you heros here, we’ve got this covered.” Not because they have it covered (Eep, that big bad critter just ate 20 NPCs whole…), but because the NPCs carry a strong sense of duty.

Ah yes the patch where we, as heroes, all line up at the DMV to finally take care of our errands while the Seraph save the day!

Well we got that tie, Scarlet is a Sylvari who is nuttier than squirrel dung and controls the Aetherblades and the Molten Alliance. She now perverted the Warchknights as well.

No doubt in future updates we’ll probably get bits and pieces more of her and why she’s doing it. Now I can agree that pacing-wise something like this should have been in the background building up to a big one or two month span where lots of things could be uncovered all at once. However that isn’t ANet’s goal, they want to give a dripping feed into this story.

Is it frustrating? You bet your sweet bippy it is, but that’s how it is right now.

Until Nightfall I don’t remember anything about Abbadon’s existence.
Of course I came in during Factions and immediately bought Nightfall.

Problem with Abbadon is even though it might make sense, it has been done to death.
Of course, modern storytelling has been having this trouble for countless years.

I can summon just as many “serious” things about GW2. Look at the personal story. People being murdered, loss of life everywhere, struggles to survive. It was not pokemon bubble bounce bumblekittenery.

Mufasa died in The Lion King. Scar nearly starved the entire Savannah after taking over. Zazu was imprisoned and threatened to be eaten. They had a leopard eat a baby in Tarzan. That doesn’t make either the diary of Anne Frank.

The Cartoon show was entertaining.
All three were different in their own ways and brought something different to me as I experienced them.

For me that’s the same with GW1 and GW2.
Do I like GW1? Yeah I did, but after GW Beyond closed up there wasn’t any more story for me to enjoy. With GW2 the story is still going and I’m entertained for the most part.

On the days I had to deal with WvW for map completion, I listened because I’m out of my element there and hopefully they are within theirs.

In PvE I’ll consider the advice some give such as “hold the line against the mob” or “Protect Jones”, “hit (insert boss name)”, etc.

However those that constantly spam the chats with “orders” not to complete an event because they want to farm while others want to complete the event, I just can’t stand.

So to the nice ones, I’m glad to see you enjoy your tags.
To the spammers, please head back to LA and sit there. :P

Personally I don’t mind her, but I’m not a total fan yet. It is a bit like Rox and Braham, I want to see her in more before I pass judgement. I remember during the Flame and Frost updates people wondered why we should give two spits about these guys and now we have more on them and some folks actually do like them.

Has the giggling evil superwoman bit been done to death? Yeah, but so has the idea of “humanity on its last hope” but it still gets the job done.

Some pirates may steal but not kill. I can see some Sylvari Pirates just being alive for the sheer thrill of freedom.

I definitely do not like the fact that they made her brilliant beyond compare, though. I mean, studying under all of the major races in Tyria is silly enough, but graduating all 3 Asura colleges on top of that, and in “record time” to boot? Even the Asura themselves don’t typically belong to more than 1 College, and they’re supposed to be the greatest minds in Tyria. I mean, Asura are arrogant and certainly hype themselves up a lot, so I could buy members of other races equaling an Asura, but Scarlet beats the entire Asura race threefold at the very least.

Personally I’d find it funny and entertaining if her “graduation” from the colleges turned out to be three different Asuran Inquest folks that said “Sure here, you graduated bookah” and gave her keychains or something.

I met Overflow as well, not too bad. However I hated it when the owner of the restaurant screamed “two more minutes before a new restaurant opens!” and I was just enjoying my time after all!
Then I come back and its all gone, the time and enjoyment had to be delayed another hour.

Huh, I thought Factions was a boring depressing expansion yet I loved the environment and the idea of Nightfall.
(shrugs) Though I do agree GW2 needs some sort of “Lore” tab in-game to bring people up to speed or something.

I also hope that since they have their rotatable activities finally established, the next series of releases will be more story driven and world driven than before.

Hypothetically yes, in fact they might have people in that world put Rox and Braham alongside the ancient heroes of GW1.
We’ll see someone who tries to claim heritage from the ancient Jenna/Rytlock family line while an ancient and immortal Anise starts to cultivate the new batch of heroes.

Back then when you finished the stories it became more of a game to speed clear and farm, so I guess not much has changed after all.
