^ same here
and since i only have 15hours a week or such to play, i miss out on pvp and wvw because i feel compeled by the boring gear grind.
and your also right that “farming” is quite dull.
anyway theyll realize it, playerbase is diminishing again now since the last patch, most people went like “ugh… more… pain”.
(edited by Avatar.1923)
^
yeah for that price make them exo with good stats!
instead of having to transmute on your old armor that you could put in your collection or use for another type of build.
because the only pve endgame goal is farming.
and once you get the item, i guess you keep farming.
not that it changes the game after you get your farmed reward.
well, some stat increases..
content is still the same.
so to answer your question; some items need to take longer to farm for hardcore farmers.
problem with gw2 isnt the engine so much as what they do with it.
its a thempark; embrace it.
to me its more about “interesting content that fully utilize the gameplay” rather than the gameplay itself.
gw2 isnt “exciting” as it was with the levelling up experience.
world events? boring
dailies? boring
guild mission? boring or not accessible enough
this game is badly in need of something to spice it up, and i think pvp/wvw upgrades is the best route for them to go on.
mixing pve and pvp (like wvw) but in instanced huge map or dungeon with specific goals. creating some kind of open pvp world (with factions) feel.
but also put some beasties in there and what not.
like a huge instanced dungeon with 3 × 5man party in it, that all all have specific goals an that other parties can hinder.
like a 3 party pve with pvp dungeons.
ideas like that
gw2 need IDEAS.
dunno.
last patch mostly didnt deliver.
guild missions are not keeping most players happy, we have a lag fest farming endgame, and classic boring dailies (which are the only thing most players do now).
anet is still unable to nail the endgame.
BUT they also dont encourage starting an alt because of the gear grind.
result; boring.
too bad that such a well design game cannot have the metathinking designers to back it up; its missing the endgame ideas/concept !!! people were ok with dailies for the first
month but now, its getting boring quickly and guild
mission are not accessible easily, even in a big guild, because people dont repeat them because of reward system.
basically; kitten what are you doing with your game anet?
“create” fun gameplay or youll keep seeing the playerbase of both hardcores and casual and pvper diminish. because you cannot deliver for any of these group now by trying to be a little bit everything.
champs need to be be at least a green..
aside from that. im quite happy that the game discourage large group camp&faceroll farming.
now they need need to repair the world events.
but i think im actually ok with making world events the place for farmers..
there the teleport cost + it makes them not to annoying in the open world.
they dont screw up maps as they use to screw up cursed shore.
the problem is that they cannot find a better solution to hook a majority of the players than to put a gear treadmill.
imo, endgame shouldnt be about stats, but about good/epic/cool consumables.
think of it as the ingredients in UO.
that was endgame
anyway consumables and skins.
but not stats :/
exact, once you level up a character to 80 the exotic grind is fine.
but the ascended isnt fun.
id also rather start another toon and explore other areas.
for a game “without grind” as “playable as you want”, alts are definitely not encouraged unless you play 30+ hours a week.
and dont tell me ascended are not necessary, i know, but the more they add the more they are.
learn to dodge
its what the combat is about; mobility and dodging. avoiding attacks, interrupting them, aegis them.
thats how you play the game.
its not final fantasy.
but a lot of people play it this way..
anyway, i remember i was a “not so good player” but after 400h i can say i quite rock with my guardian!
skyrim is a masterpiece.
a rpg changer.
everybody knows that, to say otherwise is to be part of the minority.
comparing it to gw2 is kind of flattering, but unfair
i played more hours in gw2 than skyrim.
i think the combat is better tweaked in gw2.
there a lot of better thing in gw2.
but skyrims art style, music, voices, sounds… i mean; its well done.
the guild wars universe is more a “star wars” type universe. but unfortunately, its more star wars 1-2-3 thakitten6…
for whatever reason, you dont feel it.
it doesnt help when they throw content like the fractals that have basically no lore and that most content is meant to be replayable and that you kill zaithan and all that…
actually, the gw2 universe isnt as good as the warcraft universe..(but i much prefer gw2 as a game, dont get me wrong).
im really looking forward to see how (or if) teso will be able to put some life into their world.
its a difficult task with mmos.
and gw2 “wow” approach is ok but not new nor super well done.
pve is screwed when it comes down to grinding dailies and events anyway.
so please, PLEASE make the gear grind mostly completable with wvw !!
no “pve dailes for ascended only” ugh… :/
^
totally my problem with the game and why my playtime is reduced a lot.
im casual (i think) 15h a week average.
i pumped one toon to lvl 80 with good gear, ascended etc, but i had only 55% map.
when i tried to go to other lower level maps to complete i found myself being way too op to the point of the game being.. much less fun.
i wanted to do an alt, do the rest of the content with this guy, and eventually brin him to 80 and redoing higher end zones after a break from it.
+ i would learn another toon.
but in the end, i find myself forced to always use my main toon to be able to keep up with the power creep… :/
so i faceroll dailies in low level zone and as soon as i click to get my laurel i disconnect.
if i have 2h at once to play, id like to be able to try pvp and wvw, but i do my daily, takes me 30-40min, then im like “bah… dont feel like starting something else, ill be back for the daily farm the next day”
and im skipping more days as time goes.
started dota 2 to get a good pvp fix. even if it isnt as good, i play 2-3 games and i quit and when i comback its the same thing.
but for whatever reason, its starting to take more of my time and gw2 less….
i think the issue is; wvw and pvp arent fun enough, the mechanics are just “bleh”.
dunno why.
maybe the moba formula is just cooler for pvp.
but the gw2 “combat” and graphics are imo much better, so the problem must be the " fun factor design" is being replaced by “daily grind” and this is wrong.
and it should have revolved around kick kitten pvp/wvw content.
but the wow appeal was too strong :/
make a better pvp/wvw experience.
take inspiration from moba
something more along the line of the eternal battleground jumping puzzle.
gw2 will leak players until its about the same size as other mmos.
it was a super fun experience as a one shot game, but maybe the replay value isnt there.
we are feeling the game starting to put emphasis on “daily work to do” and “vertical grind”.
the problem is that gw2 tries to be everything :/
why games like dota2 will be so popular, and why gw2 cannot keep a steady flow (leaking now i think).
because its a themepark!
and thempark need vertical challenging content aka raid and gear grind etc.
gw2 does too many things, but nothing perfectly.
im lost. i grind my daily and log off.
is it a farmers game? because there is no high challenge.
then pvp, isnt dota2.
anyway, im just going bananas,
but theres something missing somehwere in this game at “endgame” and i cant define it.
^
exactly
but i believe its doable.
only a few systems need tweaking.
core base is there.
consumables are also ok as reward for hardcores; revive orbs, instabank, super foods, xtra magic find, one shot summons, or other kind of “non permanent play enhancing stuff”.
all good in my book.
ascended is ok for “higher difficulty of the same dungeon or instanced stuff”
to me its ok.
as a semi casual i feel its the best.
it gives hardcore bragging right, which is ok, but it doesnt force my few hours a week trying to speed catch.
skins, agony resist, commander icons etc this is what i would prefer rhe game awarding hardcores with.
but its a casual s opinion.
guys, the game needs a huge overhaul.
better the encounters, better the endgame, better the crafting and “side games”, better pvp, better wvw.
imo we need to stick thru it cause it might be worth it.
im happy to know that right now they are improving on balancing pve/wvw/pvp, designing better combat encounters, making some endgame
elements more useful (crafting, low level items loot, discourage farming, etc…)
i just hope they stop the gear grind…
i would so much like to start an alt now! but since i only play 15h a week, i need all my time to “keep up with the ascended grind”… this is not ok!
because of that you have less player in wvw and pvp.
i hope that when they nail pvp and wvw they can start to greaty reduce the “grind”.
thats a lot of hope, but yeah… stats grinds are bad for the game i imagine gw2 can be.
not as friendly ?
you dont know what you are talking about.
nobody is ever gonna make a remark to you.
they just watch their own guild/zerg, and pugs randomly joining in are bonuses for them, nothing else.
so yeah, you shouldnt have problem with other players in 99% of the cases.
which is i think better ratio than joining a pug in a dungeon.
they really improved the staff in the last few patches;
quicker ball#2
quicker empower
line of warding while moving
just tweak other weapon in this fashion, to make them more fun
greatsword just works so well with the floaty and no collision gameplay of gw2!
you spin thru people, pull them, jump thru them, superb aoes.
best weapon bar none for guards, even without 2h mastery (but you still should take it).
its for the fun of it also…
its not like dota2 gives you any progression…
anyway, reward oriented people bashing aside.
yup, wvwvw need some “help” to make it more fun.
and i HOPE they wont take the lazy way and simply implement more reward; that would be pathetic.
make wvw more fun and more people will go (dont forget rewards).
imo; more incentive for squad based combat 5-10vs5-10
maybe more fun terrain that is trickier to naviguate to avoid huge massive zergs.
more stuff like the eternal battleground jumping puzzle; the small scale 3 servers fighting in this spot can be glorious sometimes!
and more incentive for people to stay and defend points instead of zerging the path pf least resistance.
there is potential in wvw, but as it is, it falls short imo.
it doesnt give me the feeling i want from a mode like that.
follow commander zerg isnt cool enough.
yup, squad based fighting is way cooler.
like what you see in the wvw jumping puzzle.
i just dont think the game is well done for massive battles.
or its just my preference.
i would like wvw type content but with more 5vs5 action.
the problem with gw2 isnt the game, its the endgame (we can argue if an endgame is needed for a non subscription fee, maybe not)
still,
they cant quite nail it yet.
Isn’t it so easy just to blame guesting. How do you know it was your own server population that flocked en masse to the event?
definitely part of the answer; lol! these events are on predictable timers + people communicate once their up.
just a little design problem here.
i know mistakes happens, but in flagrant cases like this; world event loot increase.
i really cant understand what the designer was thinking, or not thinking.
this lag is to put more challenge on the event!
not that world event and zerg raids are any better.
so, imo, big groups in gw2 are not fun.
gameplay is sucky.
better as 5vs5
basically, large fight battles in gw2 are not so fun imo.
you dont see much. especially for a melee guard….
i mostly end up circle kiting the zerk and spamming my staff 1 ability.
so so, really.
i arrive at jormags location, when timer starts it fills the area with people. slap jormag back to where he come from in less than 2.
how is that epic?
at least if he was less frequent and totally randomized then he actually would be a world event!
now hes being “farmed” and it makes the bad side of mmo shine.
bad encounter, bad gameplay, bad lag.
same as an event in cursed shore that NEVER fails becaused its farmed 24/24.
^
farmers zergs are making the game worst; the open world content they decide to farm suddenly becomes so boring and unflavorful for all the other players.
thats my issue.
only legendary weapon.
but its normal that you cant be “legendary” if you did no wvw !
1 out of every 6 days you play gw2, try wvw.
maybe youll discover something
^
what would you do if you wouldnt do that??
pvp not needed, but wvw is.
and imo its a good design decison for many reason.
DR is all good, it forces you to change events once
in a while.
farming is already bad; but camp farming is the lazyiest you can be and its not good for the game.
see it as a personal challenge.
you dont “absolutely need world completion today”.
youll get it one day
and ALWAYS help a friend in need.
your goal can wait.
its an mmo after all, and your not stronger because you rushed and complained your way to a “map completion”….
the most challenging content should be the most rewarding.
thats it.
im all for making the game more challenging and actually rewarding = everywhere at endgame.
there is no farmer in CS now because theyre busy with jormag.
i hope anet can balance the reward so that even the farmer’s favorite place would be like only “slightly” more than other places.
and i also MUCH Prefer all the farmer stuck into a dungeon than screwing too much with the open world. (they will go there for dailies anyway..)
at best; make a new dungeon with only 1 room and a closet with monsters coming out.
thats all they want anyway.
i dislike everything they bring to the game.
just getting rid of the too frequent and predictable timers would help imo.
make the world event an actual “world event” and not a farmer’s routine.
basically,
OP is comparing Gw2 to a regular 60$ game.
and honestly, gw2 gives you a lot! hopefully hoping you re gonna give them more, but thats a fair deal!
D3 wasnt the best
comparison… many game give you a LOT more than D3.
but d3 gameplay is easy/efficient/kitten.
it works on lower end pc
its easy to get into and out of, no comitement (guild etc).
+its a famous IP, with huge marketing backing it up.
so d3 works for what it is.
making a game like gw2 is more like making a statement.
anet are still “trying to be bigger/better”.
they need to make the game twice as good as what blizzard make to grab from them.
the timing of gw2 arrival was genius.
mmo market was lame, d3 was shallow, most of pandaria is showing its age…
all good calls!
but in the end, gw2 was bigger than just this.
new mmos coming out had to put the breaks and “rethink” their game, im sure of this.
neverwinter (ugh…) and even teso probably adjust the gameplay according to some cool stuff in gw2.
to me its a game that took a big leap, maybe a bit too big for them.
but they did it. their “name” got bigger. thats what they had to do.
until the day they give us a cheap guildwars arpg a la d3 to make a quick buck, we really must say they are ver giving so far.
the new farming spot is the world event.
not much better imo.
farmers arent good for the future of an mmo.
need to find mechanic to discourage that while still rewarding player who are online 12h a day.
challenge challenge
definitely, having the events boringly set on predictable timers is boring.
randomization and “rareness” of those events would spice
things up.
having them on “farm mode” puts them out of the epic category into the slot machine category.
which is kinda failed…
imo; slightly up the precursor chance but put these events on random, with less respawn, only a few random appearances a day max.
then if one spawn and its found guild chat or map chat will get busy
in a spicy way!
and put the farmers ELSEWHERE.
give them a mini dungeon with one room and mob
coming out of a closet non-stop.
thats all they want anyway.
man, i didnt know hardcore farmers existed.
anyway, when “1” activity is more rewarding than anything else and doesnt have any chance of failure.
i think the game failed.
thats a personal opinion obviously..
@akhellan
hehe
theres that!
get into a guild that use teamspeak and make some gaming friends that play your style. its cool.
and yeah, the net is spread wide as it is.
imo the game would do better if they are able to make the players vary their content instead of farming 1 thing to death.
living story could be good for that, you do a little bit of story, then the next day you re back to your other stuff.
and, if they are serious about esport, a good player would be defined as a player who can kill almost anything without the need for an armor, because he ll avoid almost everything.
still, its an mmo esport so it catters to the kind of player who also like the regular rpg pve/coop stuff.
its a new beast to tackle…
how to make the pvp “fit” into the rpg.
as it is now it doesnt.
maybe if being good at pvp would give you some bonus in pve/wvw ?
maybe if you had a medal near your nametag to say that youre in the top 5, or between 100 and 150 or 5000+ or number 1!
then that would create some popularity; same thing as putting stars to push a product, be it fashion or football.
anyway.
we are changing subject now!
It is now worth doing open world stuff at 80, you want to remove that and make us all run dungeons over and over and over and over and over and over?
the dailes are there for that.
and yes, put all the “farmers” in dungeons.
problem solved
i want challenging content that will evntually lead me into pvp.
i want a light stat gear grind for my pve fix.
i dont care about the “fashion” stuff and the farming.
basically, im almost ok with gw2
definitely,
you can have an hello kitty game and a dota 2 game..
very different in challenge level.
in most games today, you have the option to adjust the difficulty.
with mmos, you cannot really do that.
if they want to put that game on an esport level… it means thry want good players.
AND if they want to entertain these good players, they need to give them challenging pve stuff.
afterall its a pvprpg, but its still an rpg, otherwise these player will go play dota or a shooter…
to me the best business move would be to catter to good players for the long run.
less quick players have a lot of challenges to overcome before having 100% map completion and all dungeon done. if they like that type of content then they have a lot to do at their speed… + the living story should be the kind of difficulty youre looking for, and anet said they will expend a lot on that.
now its time for challenging content if they ever want to be taken seriously as an esport pvp game for fans of rpgs.
and they can.. but they need to understand the playerbase..
