i ve seen that in the las patch the slightly “nerfed” spirit weapons.
i dont get it, as i think mostly everyody is running aroud with shout or meditation builds.
somebody having success with a spirit weapon build ?
is it more pvp, wvw or pve?
just looking for some idea on it.
i think a “summoner” type build for the guardian is/can be cool, but right now i dont get the gameplay.
i feel anet should do overflow/underflow to make the zones have that “right” feel.
jade quarry is overpacked imo.
aside from the “quieter middle zones” everything lower or higher is a slightly boring zerg fest.
for me, game is at its best when there isnt enough player to roflstomp everything and that events are “dangerous”.
worst offender;
world boss.
omg….
the dragons are a joke.
i seriously only need to stand still and auto attack.
by the time you explored everything, and zones, and dungeon grinding here and there, and maybe a bit of wvw or pvp, i assure you, you will check your “/age” and its gonna be over 300, maybe 400, and new content an gear to grind for will have be added already.
i woudlnt worry.
but just enjoying at your own pace.
game doesnt get “better” its cool all the way.
probably more when you are not totally geared yet and have some challenging zones left to do!
laurels are fine as a currency that you “cannot farm nor buy”.
its a controlled progression as in anet can limit the speed at which hardcore players will grt their new gear.
i like it as is, you re rewarded “in time, eventually” for playing the game routinely.
my problem is…
the dailies.
why make them like a job ?
i cannot enjoy the content as much with the daily pressure.
if anet wants us to “play how we would like to” then the dailies should require only a certain amount of xp.
since you can earn xp however you want its the best solution.
now,
regarding the “go back to lower zones issue”.
i suggest to implement new “super events”, dungeon difficulty type of events, that you could start in the open world, once you have a certain amount of players who “sign up” at the event.
ex;
theres a lion guard at hatari hinterland waiting for 20 players to “sign up”.
once the rooster is filled, theres a zone warning and one of the centaur camp turns into a hardcore area with dungeon difficult type beasts and centaur boss.
maybe the way to start the “super event” could be different, but it could work.
world is fine.
aside from that, is there “any” reason you want those class pack that have rare items inside, instead of unique stuff that you can exclusively get with laurels?
rare items are payable for with gold and real cash.
ascended stuff, or unique stuff to laurel vendors are what you should go for imo as there is no way to buy them with cash, and “farming” laurel isnt possible.
its time conssuming only.
btw, the favorite moment of my game time is when im finished with the daily.
geez i feel so relieved when i can start to enjoy the game/zone without trying to get the “daily” whatever it is.
for whatever reason, since it is uncertain that you will achieve your daily by simply playing the game, it makes it like “work”.
why not give the dailies after you get x amount of xp? that would be “play the way you want”.
and btw, we did fotm lvl 18 yesterday, the cliffside fractal, where you have to go each side to hit the seals.
thats not “easy” with pugs.
^
the AI can really change that.
gw2 is hard in pvp.
endgame is the game.
lvl alts, do some dungeons runs with your new class, start a pvp team, get into wvw, do the fotm “traditional mmo endgame” etc etc.
game is huge, but wvw and pvp and alts are definitely something to keep you busy.
at the end of the day, do you enjoy playing?
graphics, music, gameplay etcetc.
its a question of enjoying the “themepark” not necessarly the maxing of one toon only thru grinding.
and honestly, i did a lot of dungeon with people that had no “legendaries” and they were tons better than peeps with flashy weapons.
probably because legendary owners are legendary “farmers” and their gameplay skill is rusty
i think the ai can do it “allright” at some point.
like i the mist, when you can spar against the other classes, cpu controlled. thats cool!!
maybe the problem is the monsters arent not defined and designed as much as character classes, and they lack some “moves”.
as long as there isnt “more” legendaries in the game, they cant make them too easy to get, otherwise everybody will have the same weapon!
legendaries came out too early. if they started implementing them later, maybe november or even after laurels, the they would have cooler grind/requirement.
as is, theyre kittened and a bad design decision.
to each is own challenge.
keep farming, youll be so “legendary”.
and watch me and my skills i practiced while you “farmed” own you in 1vs1
legendaries are more often than not a sign of weakness (or some people with too much money, but i guess thats more rare).
its wow influenced.
its an evolution, not a revolution.
but a fine game
pve endgame still not nailed.
but aside from that quite solid.
i loved my first play thru.
i remember divinity’s reach… and my first vista…
sniff
why do good things have to end…
i suspect guild mission to be in the openworld.
i dont think itll be “dungeons”, because guildmates can already do “dungeons”,
its gonna be something else.
imo;
because when theres more than 5 players the combat starts to look like a big mess.
because of the special fx extravaganza, mostly.
just check some temple or champion fights… no so good with 20 people there. you dont even feel like playIng!
skillcap is ok, if you want to rock all weapons.
pvp is demanding.
and the real skill cap is trying to really maximise your boons/condition/cooldown/energy in the heat of battle.
its not a novel prize in science, but it does the job and it can be quite fun.
i suggest you try using different powers/weapons.
maybe not optimized at first, but learn to use them, evntually youll realize “oh kitten! i could use that power/weapon in that situation!”
dont be too harsh.
new aaa mmos like “neverwinter” are coming out wit only 5 classes and 1 weapontype per class.
i mean..
that’s bad!
gw2 is that much ahead of any “action” mmo alreay released or to be released.
until maybe teso, nothing is gonna touch gw2.
thats what happen when you go into “endgame”.
time stops to an halt.
you become a hamster, on a treadmill!
i enjoy it.
but the machine needs to be well oiled.
as it is now, i feel like “rushing” the dailes and because of that, i dont stop to smell the roses and i feel gw2 magic starting to fade away.
problem with stat increase is that it creates a rat race.
there must be a way to reward player repeating content without needing a “stat increase”.
there must be smarter way to make an endgame than a gear treadmill.
thats the issue. and thats where the revolution failed.
i definitely agree.
ascended gear is bad… very bad.
even the dailies feel like a “job” now.. “oh kitten.. i have to go raise some people somewhere…”
i say; give the dailies once a player reach a certain amount of xp gain per day.
laurels are fine, buying blueprints or tonic.
i say; ascended shouldnt exist. “agony resist” is ok for fractal.
im afraid to make an alt and have fun again just because i dont play the crazy amount of time required to get my ascended stuff..
dailies?
“play how you want to play”?
why then those little jobs to do?
just make the daily an amount of xp gained.
scared people will just end up grinding/farming?
you think its better that i always tp to the same exact spot where i know npc are always dead to finish my daily?
nah, that sucks even more than farming
it would have been much more simple to give dailies when you reach a certain amount of xp. ding, daily done.
if they give us these little “job” its probably to kitten us of, or were they trying to make us enjoy it?
the “healer” one for exemple… some maps have less, so i end up tp to that one spot i know is full of dead npc, same thing everytime.
lol.
its hard to believe how anet have no clue about endgame.
sure its a beautiful world and everything, but its time for “higher design” now.
so just give dailies once you get a certain amount of xp.
thats playing the game “as you want to play it”.
imo
this past present whatever is simply an excuse to ditch whatever idea and character models they had.
basically, why not make fractals “slightly lore related”, akin to the destiny’s edge story.
or it could have be some kind of treasure hunt story, or “bounty hunter” story, or guerilla, or whatever.
as it is… its …. well…. huh…..
man, they gave you more stats to grind for!
thats cool enough.
^
yeah…
it definitely need some competition or those who want, where the only reward is “glory and reknown”.
ok forget it, go grind ascended and zerg temples instead.
I guess everybody missed the memo where they actually did state very clearly that there would be more progression in terms of stats on gear, just no new tiers of gear.
Mike O’brien said: ““I hope we’ve been clear that Guild Wars 2 is not a game with virtually no stat progression in it like Guild Wars was.”
And Chris Whiteside added: “We have never said there would be no vertical progression. We do intend to focus on horizontal, but we will have vertical progression moving forward with the focus on zero grind and a very low power curve.”

A little is fine, but what we have here is a monstrosity. You cannot deny this.
I don’t deny anything. I think it is a treadmill, and that they blatantly (and underhandedly) sold a very large amount of their copies to customers that were under the impression of Guild Wars 2 not having any grind/stat progression.
Yep, it was a bait and switch.
I don’t mind grinds for rare cosmetic gear. Thought that was cool in GW1 and it is TRULY optional.
But grinding for stat plus 1 in endless instanced dungeon runs, forces players into the chase the carrot mentality, while simultaneously emptying out those areas that do not give the same rewards. It is the worst possible design for mmos because they totally devalue all the art assets they worked so hard on while herding everyone into a small, ugly room. Really, really boneheaded design.
The end result has been an empty world and endless Lion’s Arch overflows with people begging for FoTM groups. Sooo much fun… really… the best fun ever invented /rolls eyes.
they havent yet nailed pve open world endgame content.
so they dumped the fractals in so most people can shut up and grind.
now you have to grind dailes, for laurels.
are you really exploring the world? or you go to places that you know will enable you to finish the daily; lot of events, dead npc and such.
and then do your fractal daily.
and then realise its time to go to bed.
one day… an mmo will “evolve”.
as much as gw2 created an amazing leveling/story experience.
everything beyond exotic gear is, imo, for hardcore players.
but the problem is; they given them more “stats” so the casual feel forced to keep up and they slowly start to hate the game.
imagine an arena where you can cue up to fight in.
and people can walk around and check from top view!
where is this ?
how do i sign up for dueling and beer ?
0
Have not and will not step in fractals nor shall I equip ascend gear. The grind and what they stand for is what I am against.I hate Ascended gear too, but you really should at least play through some Fractals for fun. It’s excellent content, very fun, and very interesting from a lore standpoint.
orrion; i totally agree with your survey answers. 100%.
but… fractals have…. interesting LORE ?
dude, seriously, there is no lore whatsoever in there….
who the kitten is that asura building mad golem in his “pyramid”??
where the kitten is this swamp located in tyria?
mossman? who the kitten is he?
the grawl prisoners, are humans from queensdale?
seriously, fractal are super cool gameplaywise.
but gosh make them gel with the actual events in the world!
and at least give us the option to read some books about their “lore”.
i dont know… each time you complete 5 difficulty in one frac they give you a paragraph about it…
something, geez…
As countless of people have said it so far, if you see GW2 as anything other than fun, artistic, and casual video game in which you’re supposed to focus on the uniqueness of its features, you are DOING IT WRONG.
well, thats how i felt before they started to unleash ascended stuff here and there faster than i can aquire it unless i spend 100% of my 15h a week doing what anet wants me to do in pve; dailies and fractals.
oh well… no dead npc in my zone im exploring now…
ok frak it, ill teleport to that spot i know where npcs are always dead…
seriously?
fail.
all in all, we agree mostly that extra stat gear is not the right incentive.
i would do an alt right now.
but i feel like i cannot because i need my main to “keep up with the game”.
i dont have ascended back yet and missing a ring.
anyway. you get the point;
i feel the “grind” starting to get inside the game when playing and its not a nice feeling.
i rush thru my dailies, get angry when i cant find events or dead people to raise, i dont stop to smell the roses anymore…. and pve should have a bit of that imo…
massive amounts of fractals, or dailies, or whatever is needed for the “gear”.
thats the problem, how fast do you put your treadmill??
lets say a casual player starts the game now.
hes kind of 300-400h behind already. You can’t really say that either. For a casual player, having the best gear in the game isn’t going to be a focus compared to a hardcore gamer.
once that “casual” player gets to 80, hea gonna want to continue, and hes gonna have to “grind” same as what you did.
unless hes smart and keeps his laurels. can he do that? thats a life saver there probably.
most people (not all, nobody needs to jump and scream here),
are doing “dailies” and “fractals” to get their ascended stuff.
its a treadmill as long as they keep puting in better stat gear.
as it is; its a treadmill.
doesnt matter if its 1%stat or 50%.
is it a game that “requires” you to do the treadmill to see the content, no.
but it’s still a treadmill to be on par statwise.
guild missions are cool for guild to get some reknown (i hope for).
right now the world doesnt feel much alive.
its more like everybody grinds his kitten.
if they can come up with a way to make guild/players “alive” with stats and story like NFL or NHL leagues, then it can be cool
you could have more mechanics similar to the ice elemental fight in the dredge fractals…
that could help.
create needed “roles” with the encounters…
could be…
but still, basically it doesnt work like that most of the time.
its ok, the social is different, its more active/reactive than planned out.
with teamspeak its perfect.
the lack of “role” mean that bigger group dont really work to bring people together.
its not like “whos/ wheres the healer?” then you get to know the guy….
so basically, 5 men is better because everybody have some time to shine.
i like the lack of trinity, but it creates a void that is hard to replace.
massive amounts of fractals, or dailies, or whatever is needed for the “gear”.
thats the problem, how fast do you put your treadmill??
lets say a casual player starts the game now.
hes kind of 300-400h behind already.
i like that the fractals can become more and more hard.
actually, the game needs more of that.
im ok with infusion and agony resistance grind.
but im NOT ok with stat increase. i think it plagues the game.
you have to realize, what brings more to the game?
nice roleplaying players doing content here and there and alts,
or minded grinders that do the flavor of the month grinding?
(cof part 1. 4war 1mes…)
i dont think the flavor of the month is good for the game.
if they made parts of the ascended gear “payable” for with gems.
then i d feel better.
right now its thru grinding only :/
being a 15h/week player.
i to have difficulty getting the best gear.
im still grinding for my 2nd ascended gear and i’m scared to miss a daily.
i was rushing to get my daily done in caledon forest, skipping all text, graphics etc, just to get it faster.
then i jumped on gw2lfg to get a fractal run done before going to bed.
game felt a little bit like work.
i still enjoy it, but not as much as when i knew the gear cap was not getting further away faster than i can play, or run on the threadmill.
im ok for cosmetic and mounts and random cat tonic and rez orbs and repair kit, and bank access and what not to be available to grinders.
maybe im the only one who think that this game is much more enjoyable at a slower pace, but that right now, the threadmill is going faster and faster.
im getting a bit tired…
do you thank Kelloggs for your Frosted Flakes too?
that aside,
gw2 is a great game. i love it.
perfect, no.
but humans arent!
id much prefer if the game focus on “combat skill” instead of “farming skill”.
I’m going to give Arenanet the benefit of the doubt by waiting to see just what new stuff the first part of Flame And Frost brings. Last month was just the prelude after all.
I’ll point out to most people that if a jaded, cynical, no-faith-in-the-devs kitten like me can be patient, you should be too.
did you give them the benefit of the doubt with the Modus Seleri and Southsun Cove, and the mini fractals that are in no way related to the content/lore and feel like a separate game?
im just being mean here.
but i still think their updated content is a bit messy and unfinished and “always a prelude” to something that will never happen.
big bosses with hundred of people?
geez…
check out a jormag fight.
boring to death.
spam autoattack, nothing else to do.at least its pretty the first time, but the gameplay really doesnt shine during those mass zerg events…
Those fights does not need look like that! That’s what they need to improve. And what should they never try to do: “race with blizzard about who can do more dungeons at the same time”. WoW is a game about dungeons. And if you want that kind of gameplay then you should play it.
as it is now anet cannot find their footing for open world pve endgame.
litteraly, go in orr and “wait” for temples to open up while killing random mobs and gathering..
it just doesnt cut it.
gw2 is great GREAT fun in open world when you are going for map completion because you stumble on all those cool events!
but as a farming mode? i dont think it does it.
its going to be hard to keep the players in the zones.
its mostly for alts i guess.
but maxed out characters have Fotm or Wvw for them.
thats it.
and fotm are kind of.. generic. missing lore or actually any cool flavor.
its purely “gameplay”.
its a matter of merging the challenge and cooperation of dungeon in the open world.
or simply pull off more instanced content! (with cool lore this time please… not random “fracktals”.
getting burned out too..
mass zerg is the open world endgame.. and i dont enjoy it.
spamming auto attack amist special fx, i dont understand how people can actually enjoy this.
dungeons are nice.
pvp maybe i should try.
wvw, too laggy and unrewarding. but its fun.
people who want raid want a challenge!
not just spam auto attack and watch special fx hiding all the graphics.
