playing “starcraft” is grinding too?
ah no, because its pvp…
gw2 have pvp and wvwvw.
pve will always feel a bit like a grind. well, no rpg game found a solution to that.
yeah, gw2 endgame needs a lot of work.
so far the holiday kept us “busy”
the fotm are the endgame.
and the living story… suitable for a level 20. as a 80 its a joke.
so basically, its FotM or the other dungeons. or grind/farm orr and other zergfests.
I play this game entirely solo with no guild, I just don’t enjoy interacting with random people on the internet anymore. I realise that that statement might come off as a little douchie but thats why I also enjoyed in TOR and starting in RIFT, I could play both games entirely solo and occasionally team up for heroics/flashpoints/stuf.
I think this is the correct way to go with MMORPGS no more forcing ppl to group up but rather have it as a option and also focus more on the individual because I usually just want to do my thang and experience and immerse myself into the world myself.
thats allright. but if the game want to have a strong community and players that keep coming back, they have to make the game multiplayer.
single player will finish the story then grind a bit and move on, thats not the long term customer anet needs to please right now.
dont rush the leveling up.
the game isnt “gated”.
and there is a lot of fun stuff to do at lower level.
also, dont craft before being level 80.
its boring and youll gain xp and youll outlevel zones too quickly.
my 2 cents
now that the ascended stuff is available with laurels..
there is no grind anymore.
you could do 1 different zone every day and different dungeons everyday and still get the gear.
thats like… no grind.
(doesnt mean its fun)
but
its
NOT
a grind.
^
then might as well make dailies just a required amount of xp gain.
if anet doesnt do that, its because they want you to do other stuff.
its fine.
but it doesnt help the “endgame” because doing 5-6 events at level 80 with gear is about as difficult as taking a dump.
i think the mmo definition of a grind is repeating content over and over.
gw2 dailies arent that if you dont want them to be.
but they re boring at high level because its not challenging its simply time cossuming and too easy.
@revolution
whats your idea of fun?
mine is challenging pve content.
the dailies arent that to me, so i critic.
now your turn:
its not grind to get ascended gear.
its just boring, and takes time because of the 1 laurel per day max.
but the daily changes and you can do it in different places.
thats not a grind in my book.
its understandable they want people back in their huge open world.
but gosh its boring to faceroll that content when youre fully geared.
thats the challenge they face: how to make open world interesting to a fully geared lvl 80?
i dont think they have the solution yet.
^
makes sense.
its too bad you ll miss out on all these low level zones!
and if you do an alt to complete them, youll end up in Orr anyway…
i couldnt play “hardcore” wow.
scheduled stuff and such? not for me.
i just want a cool coop rpg.
and gw2 almost gives me that!
thats why i want more instanced content; its my endgame to coop difficult content, but casually
the only way they can keep me playing without loot is by increasing the difficulty.
that would actually make me enjoy the game even more than now.
i am the opposite of a player who will farm easy stuff forever and ever.
farmers are just that; farmers.
Find a good use of all those skill points you acquire after 80. They could totally make something around that besides using them for legendary’s. Not everyone is trying to go for one.
So far I like where the game is heading. I can’t wait to see what they do with the Guild Missions. That seems like a fantastic idea. I hope they push the daily’s out a little more, maybe tying it to a couple of zones one day, then the entire world the next. Maybe add in a few Champion kills in ORR. Stuff like that.
I am pretty happy with the game over all though.
the guild mission and guild pvp is the best thing coming to this game imo.
if its good, it can turn the game around drastically.
unlike those “laurels” that are basically an upgrade to the dailies.
i d like to see some kind of pvp guild mission in which 2 or more guild need to achieve a specific goal in an open pvp instanced area.
its a bit bORRing with too many people.
zerg kill the temple no sweat.
make the temples as instances.
with a queue, full on wow style.
at least there’s gonna be some challenge and pressure.
make the other people able to watch your group get spanked for tyria on the big screen!
and why?
1 reason.
i dont need more reward, i need more challenge! that would be rewarding in itself.
tokens/laurels/karma/badge whatever else are for kittens
Basically, almost everyone I’ve seen that says they liked how Orr was before is a Guardian or Warrior with the usual overpowered builds who just faceroll through everything the game has.
The rest of us are playing the other classes in the game who have a hard enough time as it is and were struggling with massive amounts of frustration in Orr. Personally, I’m actually enjoying the zones now, whereas before I simply refused to go in them. I had resigned myself to waiting to complete those maps until I absolutely had to(and could get a group of guildies to go with). Now, I’m enjoying myself.
thats possible. i play guardian. with a GS…
but how come i’m useless in wvw
hehe.
just keep shooting range at jormag.
with a guard, he cant down you.when the mobs appear, this is more tricky.
but overall its a very VERY forgiving fight…
its not a challenge whatsoever.
its a graphic show off with free loot.Ok, so is this very specific to a few encounters? Lets say you go into a general dungeon, with so-called Dungeon trash mobs, can you AFK them with Auto-Attack? I go down in about 6 seconds.
no!
dungeons are cool!
nice difficulty!
i want more of this.
more dungeon and more instanced epic boss fights (to avoid zergs).Got it, but please don’t ignore my point. Is it because you have a great build and I have an average one? That could vary difficulty wildly. My guess is Anet wants all reasonable builds to be competitive with another. So lets say you have a great build, that could affect your reasoning of balance, as does my build.
There is a huge difference, I’m talking on a level of 10x if you can stand there in a dungeon and take down mobs doing really nothing. No wonder you like it or want it more difficult. You make it sound like a level 80 in the OW going to Level 20 and fighting in a zone. I have never experienced that at all in a dungeon. So perhaps I’m barking up the wrong tree. Maybe builds need to be normalized and then from there adjust Dungeons if needed.
i said the dungeon difficulty is good. i cannot, repeat, cannot facetank beasts in there.
open world is the problem.
yeah its true.
i was waiting for those earth elementals to spawn so i could kill them in 2-3 swings of GS.
i was letting the refugees get hurt so i could heal them because if i defend them they will succeed everytime.
i was repairing post signs, but then realize they suddenly stop, so i didnt get to see where the refugees come from (but thats probably later in the story).
all in all, i didnt feel heroic.
my head couldnt create a cool story with that.
there was also a flame legion camp near the road.
i stormed it. stayed in the center, pulled everybody and spin to win.
spit on the corpses, took a few trinkets, copper pieces, and went back to check if the elementals had spawn back.
im all for the open world stuff, but unfortunately it doesnt cut it as endgame.
instead the prelude could have been an instanced mini area/dungeon in which everybody is pumped to 80 (a mini fractal).
and it would have been better imo.
well when the story is not pew pew, then there is actually a story.
i think i read like 5 lines of dialogues in the whole prelude.
dont buy expensive gear unless your level 80.
go for blue stuff or karma items here and there. it gets the job done.
all in all, these items (100laurels) will take probably 3 months to get, if you play more than 20 days per month and dont get the amulet.
i hope for anet they have tricks up their sleeves to keep you guys login in.
you should simply need a certain amount of XP (proportionate with your level).
that would be the simplest way.
right now, it feels like the dailies are meant for people to go ou in the world, but its a big fail… i go there quickly, complaining, and faceroll some easy events…
im the type of player that want tough pve content.
and right now, at lvl 80 with gear, its a joke.
only the dungeons are solid enough.
temples, sometimes, on off hours when the zerg is smaller.
or i spend 30 minutes kiting a champion.
im half zerker/knight and only rarely go over 5k.
and thats with might stacks.
otherwise its 2500-3500.
^ on a guard it means,
use staff attack 1. again and again and again.
throw some buffs/powers here and there to amuse yourself.
I’m probably in the minority, but I liked Orr, difficulty wise, the way it was. Rather than cutting the difficulty I would have liked it if they just upped the reward.
The game needs more open zone areas where player cooperation is highly encouraged by difficulty, not less.
Orr is just plain too easy now. That’s fine, but can we get something in terms of an open zone with a better risk/reward? I honestly like southsun, but don’t bother soloing the vets (which are the most fun mobs to fight) any more because the drops are awful, and now, without the rich orichalum node, the entire “adventure” of the average southsun run doesn’t have much of a payoff.
I can buy into that. The pulling seemed to be the biggest annoyance. Perhaps just limiting that and keeping density might have been a good middle ground. But I could also have seen the baddies just being another say 25% tougher. Now it’s a gold mining area, which I’m ok with that, can use the gold.
follow the zerg and spam aoe….
:/
hehe.
just keep shooting range at jormag.

i actually liked the jumping puzzle in wvw eternal battleground.
some kind of instanced guild vs guild “pvp dungeon” in which you need to jump, avoid traps, kill beasts and enemy players.
would need to design it carefully, but it could be a blast.
wvwvw without zerg, pvp with pve elements, instanced.
makes sense to me.
hehe.
just keep shooting range at jormag.

no fun in filling low level zones just for the sake of it with your level 80 character….
thats the issue.im not even sure low level character want to see high level characters there, demolish all events there and ruining their fun.
I seem to recall Orr only being DE’s. No hearts. So there’s things your level 80 can do to get events. And I bet there are events in the 70 to 80 zones. Areas where your characters can get events without “demolishing” all the events there.
to be honest, i demolish Frostgorge.
maybe guard is OP.
im for one never understood the community asking for a nerf to orr.
i soloed it allright.
dunno, for whatever reason, repeating dungeons is far more interesting to me than repeating plinx.
i soloed all orr prepatch on a guardian. easily.
but yeah, now i go there if i feel like spamming 1 on my staff attack to loot mobs……
which, i usually dont feel like.
no fun in filling low level zones just for the sake of it with your level 80 character….
thats the issue.
im not even sure low level character want to see high level characters there, demolish all events there and ruining their fun.
theres no events in dungeon and no gathering.
so i have to go somewhere, facerolling content to make it happen.
it bores me, i want the high adrenaline dungeon content!
not zergfest and spanking low level mobs.
ya they should just give everyone laurels for logging in
its the same as doing the dailies…
no challenge whatsoever.
yeah, might as well give them on log in if you’re level 80.
i feel the game wants you, need you to start an Alt at some point…
Teso designers clearly stated that.
they want you to lvl an alt.
they are trying to do this by having the map divided in 3, for 3 factions of 3 races each, and you cant go into the other faction’s land. so people will do alts to play the 3 stories at least.
makes sense, lets see how it rolls out.
i loved the open world during levelling up an gearing up.
but now its too easy, boring.
i was forcing myself to do the living story… it was no challenge whatsoever.
came up into a flame legion camp like a kitten truck.
i bashed them like there is no tomorrow and it felt.. boring.so mostly. im a dungeon runner now.
either that or do an alt.
(no, i wont “grind” orr or destroy a lvl 15 map with my lvl 80 toon)the dailys for me are not fun to do.
just so you’re aware, the Living Story hasn’t really started yet. Right now we just have that title to work towards and those handful of events that have been added in to Wayfarer and Diessa.
Don’t take it at face value. It hasn’t begun.
they could have at least put a level 80 beast coming out of the ground and going all pew pew…
something…
anet knew it was going to be packed with high level toons.
make the elemental that spawns at various level depending on the average level and quantity of players nearby…
stuff like that…
yeah, with many high level boss to farm and collect from, then it would be allright too.
but dont make the fights like jormag… ugh… zerg fest…
instanced boss fights! thats the only solution.
a zerg is simply boring.
Remove levels OR make over half of the game’s zones max level.
Because endgame is just the same stuff…just at max level. That way people are not confused.
yup.
there should be 10 zones like orr.
and reduced the low level zones by half.
low level zones are ok for people who starts (no meed many zones) or people that level up an alt.. but then again.. if you level up an alt youll rock anyway.
problem with the design right now is that the low/medium zones are too numerous.
the game is about levelling up an alt, or do dungeons/wvw/pvp.
its allright. its still a LOT of content for a computer game.
but more instanced hardcore stuff is where they should focus their energy.
low levels peeps have more than enough to level up happily (i know i did).
i like the more difficult content that dungeons provide.
find a way to give me that and i’m allright.
the living story ? seriously, as a level 80 full gear, its a loss of time.
there is like 5 lines of dialogue for it and you have to spank level 15 beasts…
really?
thats good according to you?
same for me.
the open world is simply not meant for endgame characters.
that living story is so boring because of that..
i went to diessa plateau for the 1st time..
sure its nice.
but the vistas are ridiculously easy and i spank the skill points. and i can really aggro 5-10 beasts, no problem.
game should have a lot LESS low level zone and a lot MORE high level zones.
First add Hard Mode. Second copy/paste gw1 dungeons, ALL OF THEM. Done. Of course in hard mode i don’t want any Blues from chests, NEVER.
something along those line.
as it is now, gw2 is way too easy in open world for max level character.
i feel like a themepark mmo should be much more instanced.
leave open world to sandbox.
one solution i can think of; instanced content.
take a part of the open world map, and make it instanced for 5 players.
problems with me right now;
-low level maps are too easy, thus become boring.
-dynamic events and temples are mass zergs and thus too easy and boring.
so, reuse lower level map by putting instanced high level content in them.
to me, dungeons are more fun because they are more challenging, and its fun to play with others, who usually talk more.
thats a problem with open world event..
mass zerg is never fun.. at least, imo.
dungeons is where it’s at. make half the world instanced for all i care! (wasnt gw1 like that? i never played)
themepark open world is full of fail at endgame (its great while levelling up/ gearing up, but thats it, then you are left with a few challenging maps only and a big world that you can spank for loot if you dont feel like playing.

i dont see how being easier makes it more fun.
sooner than later, the only content that will interest me in pve will be the dungeons, everythin else is faceroll.
i can litteraly kill jormag while being afk.
and most temple are huge zerg. usually pretty easy because of the sheer number of toons there.
i dont feel “proud” when i finish an open world zerg event. its simply too easy.
challenge is about right when there is no zerg, while levelling up
agreed.
open world is a bit too easy when your a geared 80.
it becomes a bit.. lame.. to smash all these beasties.
orr can bring a challenge once in a while.
^
seriously, seriously, seriously. ok 15.
I have a solution! hear me out:
After reading the first 5 pages of this thread, it occurred to me…
We should petition/forcefully suggest to Anet to create a set of items for gamers like the OP.Give this item to them via mail if they type in a command such as: (similar to GW1 bonus item delivery)
/whine chest (mail a BiS chest item)
/whine helm (mail a BiS helm item)…etc
– can add a restriction that require the completion of story mode…at least that’s not grinding right???The catch is that these items are opposite of legendary, think fugly…and of course cannot be transmuted. It’s basically a “Scarlet Letter”. Anyone seen with this armor means they are casual gamers and don’t care about shinies, how they look, or can’t stand the “grind”.
This is serious, think about it. It’s the opposite of shinies. I think it might work.
For those of us who can afford exotics or higher, we don’t care about a player clad in fully fuglies. Why? mainly because if
they played enough of the game to be good/competitive, they would automatically have enough resources to get exotics. And if
work=reward; reward in this case cool designed items, then non-work=no-reward=fuglies.What do you guys think?
FYI, I am a casual player myself(4-7 hours a week), and have no issues with the repetition of this game.
hahaha i kind of think this is an amazing idea
