gw isnt so bad with farming.
as a casual, i could muster enough to deck a toon in the almost best gear.
ran 20 fractals; thats the only, only farming i did.

never repeated anything else twice.

so, not that bad

buy really, thats a problem with most game worlds; they are so cheaply written/invented.

rare are the ones that are deep and creative.
mass effect comes to mind as a nice and flavorful.
fallout.
mostly, other than than i need to look at pen&paper stuff; shadowrun, white wolf vampire, exalted, legend of the five rings.
guild wars forte isnt that; its the kick kitten gameplay and graphics

southsun cove and the unexplained lore bits of the fractals don’t help the game on a lore standpoint.
i dont understand they could come up with such “whatever” dungeon delves…

might as well connect them to the current lore? no?

the true wow killer will need all elements to be perfect.
and i believe we will see it sooner than later.

i dont know if thieves are op or not.
but they stealth so much that it’s not fun to play against.
even if they don’t kill you, they’ll run away.

that’s a really hard mechanic to get right in open pvp games, not stealth, but the ability to escape a fight. it makes a lot of combats feel a bit stale espeially in wvw as usually the objective is to kill, as opposed to spvp in which you’re more than ok when the enemy retreats.

Thank you!!

farm my friend.

at least gw2 is nice enough that we don’t need to farm/grind to have the almost top of the line gear in term of stats.

for you out there who want to farm… well, you sure got a little carrot that is far far away.
have fun

Quaggan backpacks, really? Could we have some actually medieval fantasy clothing for a change? Much like the outfits the NPCs wear? How about more emotes? Like an emote to sit in a chair or sit on a ledge? Alternative dances?

Otherwise, curious to see how the rest will come out.

there is a lot of kids playing gw2 probably.
we were jumping on candy cane during wintersday.
and there are “mini” toys to collect like in a princess bedroom.

basically, yeah, i dont like it either, it’s a business thing mostly, they care about dollars more than making a legendary game, and the numbers must be good!

i heard a new mature fantasy mmo might open doors soon.
but, nothing says if it have the smooth addictive gameplay of gw2!

i dont really do them if they don t happen almost naturally.

i play quite a lot (relatively, maybe 15h a week).

as long as i can get endgame gear, i dont mind for more. i play just to play, the challenges and discoveries are nicer for me than grinding or farming.

I was kinda hoping the update would kinda push towards a new dragon story arc, but I guess this is basically confirmation that dragons will only come with expansions, and we will never see Cantha again. I hope I am wrong. By the way, if it’s not dragons, I haven’t an idea what it could be, but the karka even’t felt like a diversion at best – a story arc that has no bearing on anything else we should be concerned about, I hope this one doesn’t end up like that too.

i really dont think “lore” and “plot” and long term storylines are Anet strenght….
don’t want to sound negative here, but the “goal of the game was to kill a big evil dragon and his undead minions”.
i mean…
and they have quaggan backpacks and “server pride” in wvwvw.
yeah, i fight for jade quarry but nobody ever talk about “jade quarry” nor do i feel attached to it out of mathematical perspective.
ooooh, and i forgot the random bits of random unexplained lore that are the fractals.

basically gw2 rules and rock because of a kitten solid gameplay, amazing graphics, and well oiled animation, and fair balancing, and music.

re: ascended gear
there is no choice, you have to have some kind of progression.
is items the best choice? dunno, but it’s a popular one if i look at most of my friends.

thing is, if they’re fun to worl toward then its all good!
just dont give me a “kill x different type of creature and gather x amount of whatever materials”. that would be a bit generic.
but something slightly lore related; ie: for kryta! win x amount of event involving centaurs, kill x boss to get a special receipe to make an anti centaur rune deciphering relic, gather x ingredients to make the receipe, craft it, then go the x place to decipher the relic, and obviously they ve put a centaur champion there.
thats cool in my book.

it might be fun aquiring laurels to get an ascended amulet.
it all depends how its implemented.

i its completing dailies like dailies are now… its gonna be soso.
but if it requires some kind of smarter things than just “5 of this 5 of that”, it can be cool!

honestly, hitting 80 is nothing, gearing up in exotics afterward is time consuming, you can clear maps, do dungeons etc. (unless you pay to win then complain..)

but its true, after exotics you can work on runes/sigils and then dungeon sets or cultural sets.
its easily a 300h thing for most people.

after that, allright, in pve right now its either map completion or going as high as possible in the fractals.

it needs a bit more maybe.

well im only 45% world completion on my first toon, i can make an alt to see the rest

but really, grind is easily avoided; for a few dollars you can get most of the gear and cultural stuff. some skins and the ascended stuff are grinds, but not necessary ones.

the endgame… what do you want of it?
new content every week?

every mmo out there is grind or pvp.
i still find that gw2 gives you a lot of different way to grind.

in the end, what do you want from the game? you dont even know.

whatever they add you can buy for a few dollars most of the time.

the endgame is when you need to start paying.
or grind for weeks to add that finishing touch to your character.

its still cool the dungeon armor sets are still unbuyable.

buy the armor set and gear you ever wanted and then youll feel like you have no reason to play anymore.

this isnt the right business model for long term.

just exchange gems for gold and go buy cultural armor sets, or the fancy vigil armor or the priory weapons.
or buy the crafting mats to go to 400 and craft what you want.

really? nothing to buy?

gem store is mostly there if you want to skip the exotic or legendary gear grind, or buy some armor set.

why the sunglasses ? lol…

buy gems for gold and get a T3 cultural armor set. same thing really..

and if youre a rich supporter; buy a legendary!

most things in pve can be bought.
for about 80$ (maybe less) youll have a level 80 fully exotic gear.

really if thats what you want.

or, just play it for the story and lore and fun explore.

depends on you mate.

get dungeon tokens for the look.
start a guild to prepare for wvwvw raids.
and spvp tournament; get a big team of people you can team up with and discuss strategie and get some ranks in paid tourneys.
explore the map.
finish your personal story.
do a new toon from another race/class.
or, grind fractal to the highest level possible for the skill challenge.

these are just some possibilities.

fractals are just random well designed encounters that anet forces you to go thru by giving them very solid loot.

i hope when they said that they are overhauling the older dungeon they are saying the truth.
the old dungeons were… a mistake in gameplay design, for the most part.
starting with story vs explore modes, difficult camerawork in some cramped dungeons, broken mobs or boss (too much faceroll, or too much op), weird and poorly designed mini games.
all in all, im pumped with what they did with the fractal gameplay wise.
now, use that good stuff and give it some sense instead of a consortium hanging out in LA that sends you thru a portal to do mini encounters of random unexplained events.
(that was lame… bordering lazy design)

basically; give the “grinders” something to be happy with; fractals

and the other players have the rest.
guild organizing for wvwvw and tpvp is kind of cool.
then you can buy some upgrades for guilds etc.

the more you invest and socialize with your guild the more youll find things to do.

but for players like me, 15h/week max, give us our standard gear grind because really we dont have time to invest in a guild so much, or time to do sheduled events etc…

we just want to explore and kitten some kitten beasts along with other human controlled heroes with slight chatting here and there.

and its ok not to see zergs everywhere.
it makes the world better/ more intense.

contested waypoints etc, to me they are cool.

first few weeks were a joke, one boss in a DE could have like 20+ people going at it; ridiculous.
now its parties of 2-3-4-5 and its just cooler overall.

Why do PvE bosses seem to equate to...

i like some of the bosses. a few.
the harpy in the volcano fractal is always a blast.
archdiviner at top of cliffside too.
alpha is sometime cool in the crucible of eternity.

i guess anet will soon (if not already) understand that whats cool about gw2 is not as much the “strategy” (omg that big fire boss in citadel of flame where you have to kill the acolyte at same time is boring) but its the rock&roll gameplay.
they need to keep you dodging/ moving/ jumping etc.
gw2 is like a jumping puzzle, not much strategy but a good dose of skill.

i would try to capitalise on that if i were these guys.

basically, only WoW and EvE succeeded at endgame.

its not easy to design a good endgame.
what can there be ?

gw2 you grind for look.
its allright.
if i was anet i would really gamble on making the wvwvw experience as good as possible. with guild halls, guild vs guilds, duels, and some kind of icon showing how badkitten you are in wvw. sonthat when ou see a player you re like “omg he rocks”.
as it is now its; “omg he farmed a lot or paid to win”.
that mentality isnt long term.

in the end anyway, its a computer game.. maybe ita meant to be played only for a while (even if that “a while” can easily be 500h like gw2!)

my friend for exemple doesnt care about the look, he will just whatever armor piece gives the best stat, and hunt for the next armor piece that have better stats.
after getting all exotics, he quit.

imo anet need to add a grind for something.

thing is, the old dungeons are so messy and boring compared to the fractals.

the old dungeon feel more like solo content.
there is cutscenes and all, but everybody skips them.
my experience with these dungeons are bad, id like to solo or maybe coop them with 1 player (duo). should be easier to find a like minded player to enjoy these old dungeons.

a lot of player keep playing mmo because they can achieve “better than others” status.
i dont feel that in guild wars i can have a good sense of whos a real hero when i see one.
the only stat that somehow represent this is the fractal level your at.

mostly everything else is either buy/farm-to-win (legendaries, dungeon armor sets etc)

personnaly, i d like a way for good players to be able to shine, just to add a touch of competitiveness and bragging, just a touch.

they need to REALLY upgrade the old dungeons.
they were so bad when you compare them to the fractals.

ok, story part is fun, but then, they just seem like a mess to play thru compared to the fractals which have far superior and more streamlined maps, team strategies, balance and boss fights.

secondly; they need a lot more social features and bragging features.
guild halls/player housing is a must imo.
lfg tool too.
and some features to put a little bit more competitive spice in the pve realm, because as it is a lot of player quit because they feel they cant “shine” (actually only your fractal level is worthy of bragging about right now in term of raw skills in pve)

i have to agree with most points.

-guilds are… bland and not really necessary.
-2 of my friends quit because they dont understand what to work for at endgame, and with real life money you can get everything.
so the “only” skill bragging right you have is your fractal level… ugh, thats cheap (and not enough) for an mmo that big.
-wvwvw is totally unrewarding, need to have a personal ranking system to know whos a squire and whos the king.

anyway, just feeling like the endgame on a single character (endgame being after you have all exo, that alone can be a good 250h, which is good) is lacking is “bragging” right.
most hardcore gamers want other to know they are the best.
need some kind of rating, that boost the ego of some and dont destroy the ego of losers.

a lot of more hardcore players need a “competitive” aspect to keep playing.
only grinding for looks wont keep them in.

so an item grind and a “fractal difficulty level” is the only tiny bragging right they have.

wvwvw have none at all (no difference betweene somebody who killed 3000 or somebody who killed 3).

lot of hardcore players are not interested in playing for playing, they need a sense of achieving something that other players can look at and say “wow”.

there is one thing missing out of Gw3 and its the “competition factor” between players.

dont kill all thats left of it.
already so many players quit the game because there is no feeling of reward. (ex: wvwvw all you want, you still wont get reknown, pve all you want the only bragging right you have is your fractal level.)
some, a lot, of players need that competitive side to keep pushing/playing, and right now its not there.

true i should have spellchecked.

but aside from that; if gems price is higher then a “sale” doesnt seem like a “sell”.

so to buy gem with gold at a much higher price will probably be less cost effective than buying the items at regular price.

whatever, buy gems with real cash, this value never changes
