man i am left behind as a casual.
i played 175h. i cant compete.
and i WONT grind.
so anet got my money, but im not the addict type they try to hook.
“the WoW slice of the pie” of masochist players theyre looking to grab into a downward spiral
i dont know.
i played 175h and never repeated any part of the content twice so far.
and for me, infinite content that i can do without repeating anything (grinding) to progress is all i require.
well… garbage it is.
i dont think it can be saved…
not in the near future at least.
and now, anet are in NcSoft grasp.
you might as well pray really hard…
grinding is the problem.
you should be able to get everything you need by doing everything in the game “once”.
unfortunately, it isnt possible because, i think, some people like to grind?
i mean… some people actually did the 4 tiny acts of D3 how many times?
this is sick man….
well Sam, you sure are on a crusade.
if you feel its worth your time,
either cause youre getting paid, or out of hope and love.
then so be it.
its like Magic the Gathering.
if you could buy every card you want, it would be cheaper than buying booster packs and hoping to get it.
and it would also make the trading post more dead, as everybody would only have what they really want/need.
smart and fun business move id say.
this aint the problem.
GEAR TREADMILL and ELITISM is the problem.
youd be surprised.
some gamers are sick.
litteraly.
we still have to take into consideration that most players, didnt even see all the zones and dungeons, even on STORY mode, yet.
so really.
yeah the fractals are a downward spiral treadmill for that minority few who went thru all the content.
but i “hope” there is still a lot of people that have 100-200h played and are not done with even half the content that are still going to do the other parts, at least once, while the players that played too much will farm the fractals like D3 zombies.
its a question of keeping most players “in” the game.
that fractal kitten is to keep the “hardcore, elitist, play too much, addict” type players well sucked in a downward spiral that keeps the game on a buzz.
is it healthy? no.
good for long term business? we ll see how sick and masochist people really are.
thats how WoW made that much money ?
hmmm. this game should be sold with a psycologist warning.
still.
SAD.
i like epic roleplaying multiplayer games.
i dont have a solution how to replace this elitist thing.
at least if they cofine it to the fractals…
really just trying to help him.
such negativity isnt healthy.
unless there is a motive, but then i guess ill never know what it is.
its professional secret
its “also” a case of monday morning.
and personally i find the game/world gets much more
flavorful when zones are more empty.
i hated it at first when 20 people were kittening every champions and events.
now, you have to be more careful.
and you WILL come across other players, you can join up with them.
2-3 people are enough to do 99% of the events, and these grouping up are super memorable.
you guys are being elitist.
shame on GW2 for provoking that….
dont know what the solution could be. but hey, it is sad, sad that people like the OP cannot “live” without doing the fastest run possible…
so long for the roleplaying part i guess.
this will become Diablo 3….
SAD
OP, i think you have a problem.
with the game, but also with yourself.
every few days you post these long complaints.
i mean, yeah, its ok to give your opinion…
but look at all your post so far!!! the time you re loosing complaining is ridiculous..
i doubt these forums need someone like you.
its ok to complain here and there, but in your case its like a zombies relentlesness.
your loosing everyones time, including yours.
do something more productive please.
or are you getting paid by anets competitors ???
there is no way no please the heavy content grinders/ farmers/ hardcore people who play 40h a week.
only fractals… and pvp.
no content will ever suffice.
the solution is: player created content, and, amazing pvp or wvw.
no other way that i know off can satiate players who already have 100% explore and the best gear.
they are.. too intense.
i wish for them a game designer can save their life, one day
its allright OP
im in the same boat, being a casual players.
but a lot of forum whinners are totally dedicated, hardcore fans who play GW2 as much as you spend time at your full time job.
they “obliterated” the content and are now at what they call EndGame.
they want more, but they all disagree on what kind of “more” they want.
so they each whine and contradict each other in hope that Anet will bind the game toward their wish.
its like a big inner conflict, and a majority will eventually emerge, and Anet will adjust the game to that.
meanwhile, just enjoy the game, check on the wiki, find a guild, and ask questions to other players in the world. some will answer you.
told you to forget it…
these people not accepting you are the same people that are rushing thru the content and that will complain for more “sooner than later”.
they are doomed
they are the mmo plague.
leave them to ther infinite grinding and downward spiral!
i have yet to go do the fractals.
but from what im reading in the forums, this is or treadmill type players.
those that put an infinite amount of time in this game.
so, my best advice is to leave them to their demise.
do the previous content, the 8 dungeons, the new zone.
but forget fotm, unless you have a really nice guild willing to push you thru it.
its not necessary anyway, if it was necessary for you, you would be in the infinite treadmill anyway and already a “lvl 5 whatever”.
just understand that this small tiny bit of content is not meant for you. or me for that matter…
OP,
im in the same situation as you.
yeah, we ll never “finish” GW2.
probably never see the whole content.
but you can still enjoy it for 2-3-400h of casual gameplay.
do your quest, check for a dungeon once in a while, do some wvw.
i mean.. i already know i have no chance of going “ahead” in this game.
probably wont be able to find a group for fractals once i reach there…
when the game jams on you… quit it.
but as of now, im still enjoying it, doing a dungeon here and there, and i never had any problem.
Great post.
well thought and smart OP.
even as a casual player (175h) i can feel that!
omg… this look like an AA meeting.
this thread needs a psycologist.
i played 175h of GW2.
i’m level 73.
i love the game.
and if the game give me 300h total ?
its still gonna be an amazing game.
i think some people should question their own attitude toward a “game”.
and welcome back to GW2 if you ever feel like it. ill need some people to run dungeons with! i havent done any explo path yet.
doesnt matter if the event lag,
they just need to sell a bunch of those event chests.
this is how success is measured for an event!
lol.
some animals are not hostile
you don t need to hurt them.
about that “lag”.
well i wasnt there.
i still would have expected some kind of lag.
but if its as bad as people said… oh la la.
are you saying we “should expect cheap stuff” because there is no sub ??
why the F our tread that had NOTHING to do with lost shore lag got dumped and lost here?
seriously. AWFUL.
i ve mostly been a white knight.
but anet is starting to lose credit, fast.
you guys are all super performer grinders whatever lost cases.
yeah, some maps are emptier. i saw litterally no one while trying to reach CoF dungeon.
i find it makes it more dangerous.
and if i want to do the events, i need to find just 1 more to group with.
2 toons are generally enough to rock it!
but i get it. some people are doing the “grind race” because they “need” to be ahead of the content and complain….
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Alone-on-the-map
youll get desperate
see people are complaining for opposite reasons.
welcome to the forums! where you can COMPLAIN.
exactly.
mmo players play way more than anet anticipated
they had to use the WoW / D3 solution; gear grind redoing the
same content over and over again.
well, for me, there is still tons of content
i have a shield fighter in skyrim and oblivion, and its very easy.
gw2 have a lot of buttons, and if you dont press ALL of them including swaping, well youre not optimal in the toughest moments.
and if you can do that without fail, without looking at your keyboard, gratz man. i still lag sometimes or miss a key.
i’m a little late to the party but i wanted experience more of the game and hold out until this patch went live to see where things were headed.
gw2 has tons of potential, is a decent f2p game but not worth the cash and time investment currently. hopefully they can create a long term win/win situation sooner than later.
Man, it was definitely worth the monetary investment even at launch. The time investment was perfectly reasonable too.
Now that time investment is looking to be heading FAR out of hand.
yeah…. some people play too much! they have like 600-800h…
i mean…
and then they complain.
maybe the “GAME” is not meant for their style of play..
well, they must account for something because anet broke their promess to give this crowd a new grind…
why do people even “grind” in this game ??
go PvP or WvW after you have 100% map.
legendaries are sad…. so sad….
true; social investment.
feeling as your character gains “reputation” in the game.
in GW2 its more shallow. you re a generic looter
still love the game for what it is!
ill play it until im bored, and after 175h, its going strong!
i m fairly casual, but ALL my free time goes into GW2!
i just dont have much free time :/
im ok with low population actually, when i see someone we usually chat and group to go rock the big events.
feels more real and cool than how it was at the beginning, with 20 people zerging a champ…
now at least, 2-3 toons rocking a champ makes for cool fights!
learn to play …
geez, it get even HARDER later on…
It’s already headed in the direction of a WoW model so say goodbye to anything GW related other than lore. Just another MMO. And looking at the recent skill “balances” which quite frankly made me laugh, and cry, this game has no chance honestly.
If this turns into the typical MMO it’s obvious that people will rather just move onto pandaland, because it does that model 10x better. I mean the entire game is based on gear grind so at least they aren’t being lied to. If you ask me, this game is already in the hole.
I bought MoP last night because the thief changes literally made no sense, I am still confused about them. Burst was almost completely untouched and balanced was nerfed… for real? Not even Blizz has ever done a balance this bad on my rogue.
hey, anet have mathematical stats to back up the nerfs/buffs…
they know what class own and what class doesnt.
im quite sure you re simply a bad player.
pandas will be your teddy bears, easy mode, sleep well, drone.
melee class arent useless, they do a LOT of dmg.
but you cant stay in melee forever, go in do your stuff l go back for 20 seconds.
when youre ready, charge back and see the monsters health bar going down.
GW2 have more than enough content to keep me playing until the next big thing (and its gonna have to be “very” big.
love GW2.
(but seriously anet… why the marketing lie about no gear grind… ? that hurts!)
the little minor differences on stats wont be a huge factor compaired to PLAYER SKILL.
but then again, somebody getting owned will complain its because he didnt grind enough, and people will believe him, and everything will flare up…
whatever, GW2 rocks. and i have 200h so far, and i didnt grind once.
seriously, the combat in GW2 is a lot more
complex than lets say “skyrim’s 2 buttons”.
GW2 has 2 weapons + 5 other skills + F1-2-3 skills + dodge.
AND you can swap those between fights.
you guys dont know what youre talking about, you can be “better” than other in this game by a large margin, solely based on your gameplay skill.
In my experience most posts on all MMO forums are complaints.
you didn t change what i wrote….
SINGLE thread 10.000 posts 100.000 visits…Do you have any fath in humanity?
it seems you think so many people have no life to come here and omplain for the sake of doing it.That’s just under 10,000 posts in a merged thread. It’s not a count of unique posters, there are a lot of posts in there by the same people. Not everyone in there is against Ascended gear either.
Anytime I say something along the lines of “did you see X on the forums?” to friends or guildies the reply is something like “lol no, I don’t look at the forums. Too much Q.Q”. They said it on WoW. They said it on SWTOR. They say it on GW2.
MMO forums are for complaining. If you listen to the forums all classes are both underpowered and OP. The game is impossibly easy and impossibly difficult. The devs only care about casuals and the devs only care about hardcores. It’s exactly the same on all the forums. No matter what Anet do or do not do there will always be a sea of complaints about every single aspect of the game.
So no, after years of reading basically the same thing, I don’t take forum complaints too seriously.
yup, i think the same as you.
gamers really are an angry bunch…
as if because a b2p game isnt “perfect” their world is over…
(btw i still agree that the false hype and marketing from anet was wrong, and probably their main major mistake).
cmon..
it is a nice game.
agreed the marketing was a bit of a lie.
but it still a nice game. people will complain about “everything”.
before gear treadmill, people complained it needed one, after they complain it doesnt. same goes for every patch they make; if its not a buff “its a worthless pc of kitten shiit”.
people need to take their chill pill.
it is a great game, and not a “scam” to own your life or make you go bald…
its a GAME, among other GAME. so lets relax.
the false marketing is gonna hurt them, and its allright.
but dont make it as if its the end of the world.
gear is somthing. yeah.
but skill and mastering all your aresnal/skills and swapping and adjusting, are far more important.
i am not saying gear is umecessary, but definitely not the one and only thing, far
from it, that you need to rock in this game.
dodging mitigate some dmg, but you cant dodge a knock prone in a red circle of doom.
so, have a plan B
youll need it.
youll never be stat wise “the best at everything” but youll need to adapt, a lot, even if it
means using skills you dont have all the right traits for.
dont fight a dredge with blinding attacks …
i dont totally agree here.
if you want to be succesful in tough content and wvw, you need to master more of your weapons, and also skill swap.
ex: in a dungeon vs 1 big boss, you dont use your staff if your guardian.
but if the room is filled with mobs and every party member switch to aoe weapon/skills, it makes it much easier.
each classes have a LOT of options, and a true master juggles well with that, and think quick.
its a game.
after all that carnage, in the end, whats left of you?
so enjoy slaying beasts and go thru new content.
if you want to grind its your choice, but not more necessary than everything else.
if you play the new dungeon, youll end up dying and then going deeper, finding your new gear in the process..
its shallow, its all about enjoying the gameplay.
i guess.
leveled zone are ok,
but also separate players.
why not a mountain castle in a low level zone could be level 80 content. its ok, you arrive there when your low level, and go like “ kitten war is raging on! but im too weak, ill come back eventually”.
right now they are putting all high level characters in the same place, and the more the game grows, the emptier other areas are.
no purpose to go back there. world dynamic event!
all of a sudden a centaur god arrive in kessex hills with his ultimate centaur minions.
and we need the help of high level toons.
world dynamic event
great post OP.
indeed your “hero” in gw2 is shallow.
basically you are a gear hunter.
the game needs more reward that are not gear oriented.
politics, notoriety, ranks, role..
this is what the endgame of a mature and non shallow game should be imo.
imo, the game needs to reward you in a different way than “better gear”.
commander status is a good start.
but they could expend more on that.
why not server king/queen? royal guards? master engineer for siege? master crafter? war transporter? with vehicles to move troops on field?
with some high end gameplay title/mechanic to choose from or be gained by community approval, or by achievements, they could diversify endgame characters and making your toon more “meaningful”.
EvE online did a good job with that; no endgame toon is the same, they all have their perks. you can be a business man, a battlefleet commander, a small ship fighter, a recon specialist…
to me that is how the game should reward high end gameplay.
give characters some “epic destinies” to grind for;
commander is one.
but it needs more.
more choices to grind for.
choices that can make your character different, not on a gear level, but on a gameplay level.
ranks/armies would be good too.
why there cant be a server king/queen ?
why cant there be royal guards ?
something. these titles could grant you boosts on wvw but also deboost if you were to get killed.
need to create a sense of community with different roles.
like EvE.
