-Reaching level 80 takes a week;
-100% world completion takes a week;Lmao… You know, most people actually have lives right? If you reached 80 in a week, let alone 100% world completion, you need to take a long, hard look in the mirror and ask yourself what your life’s purpose even is.
MMORPG is a kind that has a player base consists of mostly hardcore players. Harcore players play at least about 6 hours a day and GW2 has lots of hardcore players. 6 hours a day is enough to reach level 80, along with 100% world completion in a week.
You can ask people what the purpose of their lives is, but ANet can’t.
Blizzard is well aware that MMORPG players are mostly hardcore, or at least semi-hardcore players. I believe ANet is also aware of that now.
Seriously… by your math… 42 hours. I don’t see it happening. If it was even possible, you would have to know the game upfront extremely well. You would also have to be on speed the entire time to keep up that frenzy to the end.
its all bs.
but its a fun read.
from a game developper perspective.
im lvl 38 and around 50h in game.
…….. yawn
is this like “its a good game vs its a bad game” forum ?
i dont believe in that anymore since i know someone who actually managed to play 1000h in D3.
seriously.
i think most people only scratched the surface of the builds/class potential, and they think they did it all because they can pawn people who dont even weapon swap in pvp.
wait a bit… nobody nailed a “perfect build” yet on the internet!
that says a lot.
every class har their plus and minus.
its really “fairly well” balanced.
not perfect, i admit.
but for 1 month? i dont see any class that always sit at the bottom of the boards.
and i see a lot of people using different weapons/builds.
character building is actually quite deep.
having 2 weapon sets + underwater with all skills and traits maximized for synergy + runes and sigils…
and jewels…
you can pull off an amazing build; and SKILLS actually matter a LOT.
wait a few weeks at most for near perfect balancing.
dude, want to talk about the D3 balance and pvp?
(lets not talk about it…)
give GW2 a chance to achiece its epic destiny.
there will always be “problem”. but i would still highly recommend it, for at least a full run of pve (125-150h?).
pve, spvp and wvwvwv all need a bit of love.
everything is a bit messy now, and i’ll blame the menus interface and statistics and the wvwvwv queue time and difficulty to play with friends in spvp as my main issues.
everything else i am amazed by.
and if they add more on top? it is a contender for my best epic fantasy rpg game ever.
it is a wonderful game.
im quite sure im in for 300h minimum of gametime.
It’s just good, simple fun, casually play, come and go type of game.
So is Guild Wars 2.
No it’s not, it’s a log in, wonder what to do, queue up for WvW for hours on end kind of game.
its getting sad.
really. if you dont like it ..
i mean.
what do you want the forums to tell you??
the game cannot, as of now, make hardcore 40+ hours a week players happy.
just for your information; i played 55hours and havent seen 1 dungeon yet.
havent done pvp and wvwvw for more than 2-3 hours each.
16%map completion and level 38.
i mean.. i play 15-20h a week and this game is a GODSEND to me.
to each his own.
^
THIS
is a good comment.
game should facilitate playing with friends in spvp.
and leaderboards/statistic should be clearer.
GW2 is skill driven.
build well, play well.
this is your endgame.
eventually, duels and hardcore pvp will separate losers from winners.
@anonymus, it is fun right now, and itll be more so in the future.
i like to read your complaints and i have 1 question for you; what game are you having the most fun with at the moment ?
GW2 rewards you if you stick in parties.
@anonymus
because you complain about GW2 endgame always and always.
maybe you should try something else.
and blizzard have been known to handle addicts and powergamers quite well.
i know somebody who ditched 1000h already on DIABLO 3.
probably 700h in the 3rd act (1-2h run in average)…
to each his own.
to me GW2 is just the superior game all the way.
and its one month in, and pvp is working fine, even if not deep yet.
seriously…
thing is.
to be level 80 already is quite intense.
but really. there are a LOT of intense people i guess.
i think someone above said you need 1 week to be level 80 ?
and im like: wtf
i just dont know how a single game can manage to replace their youth.
maybe blizzard can do it.
im 60 hours in.
i play about 15h-20h a week. and that is A LOT.
i am level 38.
only dabbled quickly in spvp and wvwvw (maybe 2-3hours each).
and to me, the game is VERY good.
its epic, its lasting, the world is beautiful.
i dont really understand all the complainers.
everygame will be a content loop at the end….
except maybe EVE.
to me “content loop grinding” is absurd.
but or whatever reason, some players want it…
cmon guys, this is getting out of hand.
as it is now, you spam what you have and when there is a combo field you do a finisher in it. usually without a clue on what the effect will be.
this is an action game.
you usually cant even tell what is affecting you. its goes too fast and too flashy.
so dodge and do finishers in fields.
thats about it folks
for very well coordinated group, i guess they can have “group combos”;
same thing as a personal rotation, but with all the groups powers.
that would be optimal.
roleplaying is dead.
we have “troopers” behind their computer screens. virtually complaining.
long gone are the days of pen and paper. and of roleplayers.
Wrong. You just have to get out from behind your computer screen and go to your local gaming shop! Personally I play pen & paper games weekly and the boardgaming/pen and paper roleplaying world is seeing some of a renaissance as of late. It’s a niche audience but wasn’t it always?
But MMOs really don’t lend themselves well to RP. I’m just speaking for myself but I thinkthey are way too “computer gamey.” I’d feel ridiculous trying to actually act out a scene in-game. I prefer to reserve that sort of thing for my weekly game nights.
hidden behind a computer screen is the easiest to roleplay!
everytime my toon “/say” something its in character.
guild, map chat etc; regular talk.
try it
roleplaying is dead.

long gone are the days of pen and paper. and of roleplayers.
personnaly im old school.
i go with the flow. if after some adventuring time i can craft something or buy something i do it.
and i like that gw2 is cool with peeps like me.
ok.. i wont have the “utmost” best toon, or the best legendary set right away. itll be piece by piece; but ill still own you in pvp
but the reality is otherwise; most players are in a race. either against themselves or the system. its a question of profit, stat pumping. this is whay get their afrenaline going.
is it “because of WoW” ? not sure, maybe WoW just ended up listening to the majority, amd that majority is vocal: we are a generation of powergamers.
(edited by Avatar.1923)
im level 35, and im pretty sure these 1s are my main source of revenue.
op you are being immature a bit.
you can post your concerns in a respectful way.
wake up!
dungeons are raids, and maybe dungeons with more players capacity will eventually be pumped out…
i would say, very probable.
game for the first month is amazing.
and anet are learning fast, i hope
probably he felt like a king.
but then again.
people play rpg games like casino these days.
its a great action mmorpg.
having a blast doing coop with RL friends.
everything is quite balanced, its huge, lot of different builds possible.
thumbs up.
i totally agree with the OP.
an mmo content should be influenced/led by the players actions.
(to a certain degree).
maybe elect a council, choose a king, and council have some decision to take once in a while.
and players would try to get elected on the council i guess.
or
player giving quest to other players.
EVE Online does that i think.
but i never tried it.
actually for many, eve is the revolution.
thing is candy fantasy mmorpg (as much as i like them) are meant to be enjoyable by younger and less “pro gamer” type of players.
What I’m actively arguing against is the notion that what are essentially dungeon-running commemorative vanity plates be available to those who don’t do the dungeon runs.
Show me one post that suggested that. You’re arguing against a point that nobody made.
What I’m arguing to keep is the integrity of the game design and philosophy.
What philosophy is that? To keep the game entirely the same way from the moment it was pushed out the door? To restrict any and all constructive feed back? Go read some dev posts, they are LITTERED w/ ArenaNet employees explicitly asking that players bring them positive, constructive feedback to help them improve the game.
… not for seeking out rewards in and of themselves which basically turns everything in the game to a reward-centric game …
So riddle me this hot shot. If this game is soooo “fun-centric”, then why is there even a leveling system at all?
-so you cant go to the most epic areas/dungeons right away
-so you can learn the game system without being overwhelmed with too many skills/trait at first.
can i remap the mouse left click to be my auto-attack skill?
i couldnt do it. and it would be better for my playstyle.
partly, but thx for clarifying some stuff.
i have an item:
(exemple)
helm of power
0/1 +5 power
0/2 1% dmg
(and there is no update slot avail on it).
im just wondering why i dont have the update bonuses.
how does that work rune like that?
sometimes i loot an item that have an update with
0/1 power something
0/2 crit something
how do i unlock these?
and sometimes its like 3/2 crit something…
i am lost in that…
at one point, just pvp or wvwvw or whatever you feel like doing, youll get reward with time.
but if feel like youre getting addicted to grinding, youre not helping yourself.
People, as a whole, need a carrot to chase after. With no carrot they get bored, go plop down on the couch, then turn the TV on. Without a “grind”, which is generally only a grind if you make it such, there really is no longevity. There is no way a game company can create a game with an unlimited amount of content to please everyone. If there isn’t anything to chase after, even in a sandbox MMO, you will eventually get bored and move on.
the only way would have been to have a player led endgame content.
something inspired by EVE.
the top players “define” the game by battling it out at top, and hiring lower players to do their chores.
like; hunt this and bring it back, go kill that many soldiers from that guys army etc
GW2 is amazing in its own right as a spectacular action mmorpg.
but it isnt a revolution in the genre.
still 9/10 for GW2 as its a hell of a fun and make skyrim look small!
50 Necro 5/10. Many others that have already stopped playing because the game is the most non-rewarding socialist utopian mmo on the market wont be around to provide feedback, so there is absolutely nothing statistical that can be gained from the input in this thread, other than surmising that it is input based on folks, that purchased, and who are more appreciative of the game than less.
Im on the cusp on leaving because it isn’t the pvp game hyped, and that player skill isn’t a component of pvp game-play and nor are players rewarded for their game-play and effort to be able to gain an edge based on accomplishments and game-play effort.
after so many hours played and so many content cleared you should be able to rock those newbs that dont even know what 7 out of the 8 classes can do.
just saying. its like a first person shooter, or ultima online!
people are addicted to “loot”.
forgetting that the path is more important than the destination.
but none of us are the same, we all have different interests.
impossible to please everyone.
lvl 33 guardian 9-10 (based on pve only so far)
-1 because dynamic events can feel way too easy sometimes (especially true in human lands) because of massive amount of players.
but yeah, playing with real life friend is better imo.
because a guild can;
give you a group for dungeons
give you a platoon for wvwvw
and if its a big guild, advise when world boss are up.
i like them, but i personnaly feel that the greatest heroes on each servers should get some kind of recognition in game, simply reknown, and maybe a few gameplay mechanics like being able to to participate in in-between server duelist championships and being able to command people easily in wvwvw. at best, being on the server “council”, a player voted council where you can make some decision once in awhile to what ideology your server adhere to in wvwvw.
it would be interesting to give some kind of story focus to the WvW, so that servers battle it out for some ideology, instead of sporting server logos like a baseball match.
to me it would be about the RPG put into it. that cold make it glorious, and i would jump on the server that ideology is more akin to mine.
at one point a game cant or shouldnt give more “power”. its disbalencing.
the dopamine factor will probably be pvp and most importantly epic wvwvw battles.
once anet nailed the wvwvw, gw2 can be almost infinite.
an big dragon never winning; that is obviously. well.. not great.
but on the other hand so difficult to balance.
thats why dungeons exist.
and they will probably tweak them amazingly, and pump out new epic ones, with big dragons! and also adjust the reward.
dynamic pve event are mostly a 1 shot deal, more akin to a single player/ coop action game.
blizzard did a good job.
maybe too much of a good job at one point.
but times are changing and nothing stays on top forever, the same happened to the beatles.
for me, the greatest was Ultima Online, with its “dangerous world” filled with red player killers and good doers battling it out.
and you could even get your house stolen by thieves
gw2 tries to be both, pve and pvp, but wont be perfect in neither, probably.
still, just giving some meaning to the huge wvw, as in some big ideology conflicts, could rock!
yup that could be cool!
just giving an “rpg” twist to it instead of simply sporting my server logo like a baseball team.
im not looking for gear, just a lively world/setting!
thx
im really not looking after a carrot.
mostly just wondering if server wins in wvw will afftect the game storywise.
or if its mostly like; yeah my server won! now reboot.
yeah, game is great really!
super fun action coop mass rpg!
i wonder where anet will take it.
not content wise necessarly, story wise! i wonder if ill take part in the fight! sporting
my server logo is cool, but id like some kind of ideology attached
to big week/month long server fights.
yes or no? can i easily be on the same team as a party member ?
a little too fast, i agree.
but thats the price to pay for “no grinding”.
the ride to “fresh” 80 is still well over 100h of focused gametime.
was GW1 like another regular fps deathmatch?
i mean, when your “side” wins, whats next ?
hi fellow warfarers.
me and my bro are on the same server;
can we easily be on the same spvp team?
for wvwvw i guess once we both finally are able to join in ill see him on the map like in pve.
lmk!
maybe that is GW2 revolution.
its good for the addict to drop their addiction.
game responsibly, see you in game.
agree. but servers have no stance.
its more like baseball teams.
your server wins all, you get a trophy???
i just feel the letters “rpg” should be somewhat more meaningful in wvwvw.
