exactly Buzz.

there isnt enough meaningful/cool things to make you character more than a “looter” farming for top gear.
if the game was really “not about gears” anet should have added different endgame rewards and mechanics to define your character. (commander is a good exemple, but there isnt enough other options!)

the problem is not the gear treadmill,
the problem is there is “nothing else aside from gear to play for”.

what if there was armies with ranks/houses/castles/fame/notoriety/etc.

right now there is legendaries and commanders.
this isnt a lot to go for.

they need to add other meaningful goals. goals that can have an impact on group play or the community, that can get your character becoming something else than a egoist looter.
by adding meaningful goals to work for, your character would develop personality, that makes him different from the others, for whatever reason.
commander is ok, then maybe war tactician with some different group ability, or priest with some different group abilities.

just feeling that aside from “getting a legendary to look better, or commander title to rule wvw” (which are both fine by me btw) there isnt much else.

need more options for endgame character to “become” something.

people are way too demanding.
i m curious to see the amount of hours they logged in so far…

good luck anet, but i really think you should settle to be like other single player /coop games.
throw a dlc here and there and call it a day.
nothing can save the mmo from hardcores.

it isnt to the player to ask for something they want.

it s for the designers to create it.

seems like they tried (manifesto), they ended up failing, stuck at a road block.
they went back to an easy and proven treadmill mechanic.

indeed, their latest blog doesnt show much creativity…
totally a “raid” mechanic. raid to get better gear to redo the same content over and over again; but at least, you get to go deeper! i wonder how appealing itll be to replay it endlessy.
and if the other dungeons are gonna be empty now.

chakan; GW2 is perfect for casuals. its like skyrim, multplayer, with a hint of jrpg.

but, here, we’re dealing with people that play 10 times (if not more) than you.
you d be surprised to know how many players actually already lvled to 80, finished the main story have 100% map completion and have their armor set.

arenanet couldnt design for them;
be it a good horizontal progression,
or more options/ranking/menus in pvp,
or more statistic/ranks/roles in wvw.

they just… were happy like you.
and me.

but not the horde of players that come from “the wow”.
which is, btw, the most popular game of the last decade.
it aint a small feat to tackle it.

Quitting + getting a refund is essentially boycotting.

OMG, stop it.

You’re not getting a refund after playing the game for hundreds of hours.

Good lord.

I think you can get a refund in the EU up to six months.

This.

I love costumer laws.

“Right of withdrawal

1. For any distance contract the consumer shall have a period of at least seven working days in which to withdraw from the contract without penalty and without giving any reason. The only charge that may be made to the consumer because of the exercise of his right of withdrawal is the direct cost of returning the goods."

Source: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:31997L0007:EN:NOT

As for a boycott, I don’t really think there’s anything in the patch that’s worth missing a fun event for but if people do it at least there might be a little less server trouble than there was at Halloween.

As for false advertising – online games include a stipulation in the ToS which states that the game is subject to change over time. You agreed to the ToS.

so you are basically saying; they can say whatever the hell they want if we sign that 100pages documents?

Really, people, what is wrong with vertical progression?

It promotes power and repetition over everything else.
To make It more clear: Forces a player to repeat a specific content over and over again for a single goal: obtain more power, promoting elitism.

the “repetition” part is the sad part.
such a beautiful world, but instead of having lively content that make us actually travel the land once we are 80, we end up on a treadmill :/
dont get me wrong; story mode + all dungeon story mode + pvp some and wvw some; this is still easily 200-300h of content, and thus, GW2 is a good game, i love it.
but im not at endgame yet, i think i wont be able to cope with the repetition.
same reason i quit wow and d3.

Ralph Koster (UO, SWG) had this idea that gamers had to create their own content, because hardcore gamers would exhaust it, before they could make new content, making everyone miserable.

His idea was that when you have world pvp, or a player run economy, players are competing against other players in a never ending activity. that in itself is a sandbox, where the possibilities and manipluative game systems are the content itself.
people can have fun for years just fighting over territory or be engaged in highly competitive matches to be the best. We know it from other game genres as well. people playing the same maps for years and years.

I think Anet should embrace the dynamic nature of GW2 and move away from the instanced dungeons. they are a relic, and not very social or MMOish. I would rather do more stuff in Tyria. in the open world. change things, take over towns, raise taxes on passing players and npcs. leave my mark on the world, take over places with the guild.

and thats why Eve Online is a cult.
not easily accessible, but definitely more revolutionary than gw2.

player created content is KEY

hardcore is synonymous to “play a kitten lot”.

hardcore is 20+ hours steadily week after week.
and that is almost “softcore” for some.

i cannot understand how you can find nothing to do in GW2 if you are under 300h played so far.

and 300h would mean almost 2-3h per day 7/7.
so really… players complaining about the content qty… i mean…
i don t want to be mean, but…
i just wont say it, ill get infracted

I have 785 hour played. Get a life? Yeah you’re right… Regardless it doesn’t change the issues with the end game.

this is indeed very sad.
wanted to be entertained more than 40h a week forever for 60$…
it ain’t fair for the people working 40h a week at Anet.
i know, you probably have all the reason in the world to play that much.
i wont judge anymore.
but be fair with anet, they are “again” releasing new content on nov 16.
please understand you are the absolut minority…

cant blame anet so much, its a f2p model.
like buying “magic the gathering” cards to boost your deck…

but it does make the game, the loots, more boring. unfortunately…

exploring in my case.

but i only have 200h played (its a lot, but nothing compared to “hardcores”.)

im not level 80, 32% world completion.
i only did 3 dungeons story mode.
rank 3 in spvp
havent touche WvW.

i talk to all npcs, check out locations, having a blast.

superbe game for me.
i play about 10-12h a week.
its.. a lot i find.

this game is just huge.
and tight.
the action is solid, except some zergs or dungeons when everybody is on the same enemy; i find it messy.
but maybe i need to be better to see beyond all the flashes.

still amazing game, gonna last me 300h minimum, and probably much more.

mix in with one solid giant or such.
to make different skills useful and to feel slightly more heroic.

repetitive could be ok; look at d3…

a la diablo 3.

right now its players vs 2 super powerfull “random mob”.

it could be 20 trash mobs + 1-2 elite mixed in.
think diablo 3. (not that its a great game, but it still does some things right).

no matter how hard, it will be completed almost instantly;

there are full time GW2 players. you simply cannot create meaningful content that isnt grinding for them.

one more comment;
dont underestimate the insane amount of time that some people ditch into mmo.
there is NOTHING save for grinding that can save them.

quests like you mention are cool, but some hardcore will rush through it and will have the item in a matter of minutes.

the only way to deal with the players playing as if GW2 is a full time job; is giving them grinds.

its not a question of difficulty as much as simple “fun and nicely designed mechanics”.

the dungeons could require more team work.
maybe splitting the party here and there, or incorporating more trash mobs.
i feel now it feels like; next group of ennemies / pull / woodchop, then repeat.
there is no feel of being heroic at all.

i like the server density as it is now

Avatar.1923

i see some complains here, people saying the game is “empty”, but truly, it never is.

there is always somebody not to far away.
its simply that in this game you have to make an effort to team up with people.

and if the zones are “overloaded” with people and everybody is zerging everywhere; i find it takes away the challenge part. it makes the world much less immersive.
as it is now, more quiet, and then you meet up with another hero, and join up for some quests, it feels a lot more personal and epic. sure, it does make the game tougher, less optimal for farmers, but the experience is amazing!

probably true;
dungeons could REALLY be improved.

i feel there is something to be done there; but it would need a total rethinking.

maybe if the dungeons had more of a diablo3 feel?
with lots of weak mobs and some strong “elites” mixed in.
so you would have to be more tactical on teamplay.

Opinion on the game with a lot of experience.

skyrim; which is an AMAZING game btw, immersively speaking,
isnt really the most balanced thing out there, it s actually totally broken, so for an mmo; no thx.
and you basically spam the SAME attack all day long; imagine how people here would complain! hahah

check out elder scrolls online; it seems to take a lot of inspiration from gw2, but with that gritty skyrim style.

and btw; GW2 is a remarkable effort of
game designing.
its missing a lot of important things; better dungeon, more strategic teamwork.
but it does so many things greatly.

Mavaho;

seriously. some people do like the exploring part pf GW2 and don t feel that mmo are “competetive” or they simply don t need that.

and yeah, people don t play games all the same way.
GW2 is different, it tries to be, is it perfect? nothing is.

but if you dont like the pve, the spvp and the wvwvw.

do yourself and ourself a favor. complaining wont change much, especially without any clear suggestion like you do. and even then… its not going to change tmrw.
GW2 is a step in the good direction for the mmo world, elder scroll online (check new video) seems to take a LOT of GW2 ideas.
probably they ll improve on it. such is how the world goes.

so why lose your time?? you are simply not making sense.
