maybe eventually instead of server vs server we will get “faction vs faction” and the winner after like 2 weeks could be the faction that will influence the next big event.

i would personnaly feel more inclined to fight for my values, instead of sporting a server logo.

Very unlikely that this would be changed in that way, because the rest of the game (open cooperation, DEs, rezzes, etc.) is not based on faction play, but all being in one faction. Changing to a faction-based game would require the entire structure of the game to be fundamentally changed.

yeah, i guess.
then they would need to make server vote on some kind of stance they want to take.
to me “guildwars” should be about major conflict.

and as much as i like how pve is all sugar coated “everybody is friendly”. my personal opinion would be that players, or servers, should take some kind of role into big, world changing, conflicts.

true, a good social group helps in enjoying pvp, wve and dungeons.

but id like to see ranking at some point, or fighting for something else that “my server”.
thats not really… fantasy.

same for pvp. factions with values that can turn the tide of the game would make it fun.

but i agree, they dont come up as very integrated with the story.
oh well.
still a great game. only a few big picture element missed the mark for me.

see GW2 as a super huge coop action rpg.

but it isnt an “infinite solo quest”….

complainers will be complaining until they get what type of answer?
there is no “endgame” as in you get stronger and stronger.

find some friends, play with them, and move on.
its a coop action rpg with 300-400h of content.
huge already!

Well at least you were unbiased in your response. This does sadden me though as I know the game will NOT appeal to me at 80 and I really DO like the game now…I was really hoping there was something in the game to give level 80 players with interests similar to mine ( I dont want to run around and do achievements or complete the world exploration or craft). I want to engage in COMBAT oriented content and progress after 80. Oh well…another one bites the dust.

at this point, for you, its PvP or WvwvW, and wait for new content.
you know a game that does endless progression? the only thing they can do is make you repeat the same thing over and over…

bad things about gw2?

its a super huge and beautiful coop action rpg.

it isnt more that this nice candy.
gather up some friends and play around the world in pve, pvp or wvw.

gw2 isnt a game for solo so called hardcore who rampage the
content by playing 100h a week.

me and my bro:
i play solo 5-10h a week, doing my story quest
i play coop 5h a week, we choosed a region and we clear it, coming back to it when we feel like doing pve coop
i play 5h a week, coop with my bro doing pvp or wvwvw.

i just enjoy the ride. we like coop action rpgs.

but if you see it as an eternal/infinite skyrim… or a wow slot machine… youll be disapointed.

Yeah the content is there but not the incentive…. I feel like you and I see the issue similarly, we just attack the problem from different directions. I guess what I don’t necessarily see is how writing the history or gaining reknown is any different from grinding for skins… though I think the concept of your idea is cool and could have interesting impacts depending on how your certain history-line you take the server impacts future content (maybe some action makes the Crystal Desert occupied with different baddies or something).

the first step i imagine is the creation of “heroes”.
players that accomplished great things.
these heroes need to be known to other players.
and these heroes should have the possibility to command people in wvwvw.
and they should gain respect. and eventually maybe have a “governement” in place for each server. with players getting voted into it.
and this governement could have some choices to make that could alter the pve content or wvwvw content.
duels between masters from 2 different servers, for bragging rights.

its hard for me without proper brainstorming to really nail how i “personnaly” would like the game to involve the players.
and im sure anet must have an idea also.
i just hope they also feel that by giving power and influence and reknown to the players, it creates what a mmo should be, imo.

even if im not even near finished with the huge amount of content that the game have.

my suggestion for endgame is that players get rewarded with “reknown”. that they are recognized by other players for their deeds in wvwvw or spvp or pve.
by getting some kind of reknown system in place, the game should eventually let the chance to the players to “write a part of history”.
by becoming great leaders, great duelist, or great politicians.

as it is now, i dont think there is any system implemented to let the players become bigger than the game, which is, for now, a huge action mmorpg.
its cool, meet friends, kick some kitten butts and log out.

to be more than that, GW2 will need to find a way so that heroes can become HEROES.

i just read the GW2 lore wiki.

its good!
but i had too look for it.
suggestion; put a wiki link at the start of the game?
so we know it exist.
i like to play the game knowing a bit of the background.

you do realize that in game i was sometime reading book talking about dates and years and i had no way of knowing what was the current GW2 year.

anyway. its maybe just me.
reading the wiki before starting the game would have made my experience cooler!

op, by the way, you are self contradictory;

i quote:

There are no events that require a well communicated group to have to work really well together to be able to succeed in. There is nothing that you must have a certain quality of gear to be able to accomplish. There is no inspect either so no showing off.
In WvW there are so many people, it’s so chaotic in combat that no one can really know how much they’re contributing and it wouldn’t make a difference anyway.

so. maybe you can start a guild, gather wvwvw fans, organize massive guild meeting in wvwvw and proceed to War!
can you?

little things like that. that could be somewhere in the game, definitely.
like mass effect, a place where all your “aquired lore” goes.

but maybe gw is more about kicking kitten and read later (or never)

i personnaly am not in “love” with the GW world and lore.
it feels a bit cheap, nothing gel.

but, on the other hand, the art style is amazing!
visually, it is stunning.

but it still doesnt explain me where “magic” come from or why my toon is a guardian.
its not tight on that!

but its such a beautiful action mmorpg that i forgive them unclear lore and, well, unexciting world (from a lore perspective only!)

its a really cool fantasy action mmo.

its not your real life. your toon wont change the world.

but its fun to beat up mobs and fellow players.
or simply do an 80-100h single player game.
or whatever.
its a really fun, beautiful, and well balance (being only 1m old) game.

i think its a cool game.

i like to explore. solo i do my quest and clear maps and craft.

whatever my level sometimes i join up a party with my bro and friends, we go random into a map we never did, kicking kitten an having a blast.

eventually ill try wvwvw and pvp.

combats are fun. i need to get better… a lot of times i find myself not using all my powers cause combats are so fast!
but im getting there. now at least i use 2 weapon skillsets.
underwater, im still not fully familiarized with my second skillset.
i might also try new weapons, for the sake of knowing if the gameplay suits me.

i have 45h played. i’m level 33.

its a great “action mmo”.

my only rant is i would like the players to have more influence on the world and mechanics that promote socialization and coop play.

You can make a huge amount of builds using all the different weapon combinations + heal/utility/elite + traits.

might i had; you can change most of it on the fly?
and traits are actually changeable too?

so, experiment. every situation requires some tweaks.

and i’m quite TOTALLY certain you havent mastered your class.

Right here:

“Bottom line: the game seriously lacks any form of incentives for you to keep playing once you hit the cap. "

That’s asking for a gear treadmill, even if it’s not direct.

incentive isnt necessarly “gear/stat” oriented, check the

its not you.

it because the “mmo” revolution isnt there yet.

there is Eve Online, but the look/spacesim/complexity of it doesnt appeal to everybody.

there has been no revolution in the fantasy mmo market. yet.

GW2 can do it, imo, if they stop thinking the players only enjoy grinding.
i believe that player led content is the way to go.

So, in essence, the “endgame” is the evolution of the world, post-Zhaitan, and dictated by it’s inhabitants?

no, new pve content can be added by anet as they intend to.

that “player influence part” would just be a side thing. something to do for top players" and something to give a bit of life into the game.
so that it doesnt look like a huge “npc”.

i strongly believe that the Players need to be stimulated in other ways as just “gear and stats”.

give an identity to the server.
with its king, knights, sages….
create conflicts to rise among the top.
then be able to “choose” or “vote” some of the server qualities in wvwvw.

the idea is that the player can become “real”.
i mean… thats only for hardcore players.
regular players will just do the regular pve content and basic pvp anyway.

imagine if the “internet” or blog start to talk about those “big

bruno, it can be something different than a “buff”.

but it need to be player led.

maybe tyria needs a king?
and maybe that king can be voted for by the players?
and then choose royal knights, with crest beside your name? etc.
create an identity for the server on wvwvw events!

the idea is to promote social interaction as an endgame by rewarding the players that spend a LOT of time in the game.

to me, right now, aside from bag space…. i dont feel interested by the payable content.

i think i could be interested if payable stuff included participation in a mega event, or dueling tournament.
or something related to guilds, for the guildmaster to pay for, since they are
the biggest fans usually.

server change, name/sex change are still very valid things to pay for too.
