well….
so far all the new content is… hmm… a bit lame and “unfinished”.
modus seleri ?
southsun cove ?
fractals ?
it seems like anet just doesnt know how/ what to do with the game yet.
they have this nice world with nice story, but they pile up more and more crap without lore or anything on it.
now what? gathering storm?
they just randomly throw loreless content here and there, stuff that have nothing to do with the current campaign, plus, they never finish what they start.
its a mish mash.
fractals are great gameplay wise.
but geez, they have nothing to do with the world… and they should have.
i love the gameplay, but im disapointed by their updates direction so far.
i hope they also realise that what they are doing is wrong.
Frankly I don’t see what the point of adding laurels was in the first place.
Karma basically shares a purpose with Laurels: A currency that you gain by going out into the world and doing things, as opposed to sitting on one’s proverbial behind in Lion’s Arch all day and spamming lfg fractals level 46.234. And we were already getting a healthy sum of karma from completing our dailies! Why not just make a karma vendor with the same items as the laurel vendor has now? This would also solve the current issue of there being no real karma dumps for people who don’t care about their legendaries.
because you can farm karma to an unlimited amount per day.
laurel is limited, meaning anet controls our progression better with laurels than karma.
karma is basically gold that you cannot buy with gems aka real money.
I play about 2 hours per day, when I play. Now I don’t play games at all. So am I hardcore player? Cause I think GW2 is very easy, boring, unsocial and noncompetitive game. For me PvE is pointless. I like to play with other players. So what a player am I?
type /deaths
a few are from “mistakes” or game disconnects? i guess..
anyway, until you are fully geared in exo/rune/sigils the game still is somewhat of a challenge, after that… open world is somewhat faceroll, i agree.
i want more hardcore content! (not for hardcore farmers, farming is evil. but for hardcore gameplay masters!)
i quit D3 after finishing it on inferno. because, for me that was it “i beat the game”.
am not alone in that category; a challenge is needed for a lot of players.
google man…
google.
the open world game is already very easy for a lvl 80 with gear.
world events are easy too because of zergs.
endgame “open world” is something very difficult to balance.
imo endgame pve should be instanced.
that leaves dungeons.
make some dungeons that look a bit more like the open world and its gonna be nice
its like curling bro.
its “mental”, mostly.
a super thought out patch.
its called; crowd control.
anet decided that playing fotm isnt the flavor of the month and that going back in the open world is.
but they didnt really made it challenging enough for a geared toon imo.
orr events are still big zergs.
its really difficult to balance “open world”…
fractals are the most fun/ fair challenge you can get out of the pve in this game.
everything else (which is a lot) is for levelling up.
and world bosses for the show. no need to play, just press 1 and follow the zerg.
^
got to see it for what it is..
“laurels” are the flavor of jan-feb-mar months.
if anet doest have a good feel for balancing classes now, its because they think they are fine.
thieves “supposed opness” have been on the forum for a while, actually its all over the internet.
so my guess is, the players dont understand the system yet.
otherwise they would have almost balanced it, right?
after 6 months…
im more about “challenge” than farming achievement personally.
gw2 levelling up was great.
but now, aside from FotM, i cant seem to find the right challenge anywhere else.
(dungeon explore need a tweak, they just feel a bit kitten, with one shot type mechanics or facerolling).
world bosses?
omg.. i can do them eyes closed. (but it looks pretty so i open them).
gw2 as tremendous potential for highly challenging pve content.
a dungeon could be an “assault the keep” instance, with randomly patrolling enemies and boss spawn point.
game is amazing, but pump up more fractal quality stuff! this is where the pve shines for me.
(and make them more lore related make them feel like part of the world… omg those fractals are so bland and unrelated to actual and recent lore… totally feel like a mini game inside gw2… with that consortium pumping out gates to bits of dungeons… lame)
AoE is needed most of the time.
thats why 2 handers are needed most of the time.
sword is good vs 1 target.
and pvp 1vs1.
its to keep people login in.
some sense of “achievement and progression”.
30+hours for an amulet that will change the game, making it much cooler! ..
especially if you have 100% map.
they really have to come up with a fantasy mmo without “levels”…
dated concept is dated.
I would just like something built around replayability. Dungeons/Fractals are NOT this at all, even though they vastly encourage it because they are exactly the same every time you run it.
Hell, I’d be happy with your standard defense mode that you might see in other games (see Halo’s firefight or GOW’s horde). Semi-random/dynamic defence, gets harder as you go along. It doesn’t need to have rewards, there’s nothing wrong with just playing something for fun.
If WvW and my guild weren’t here, I’d probably have left this game long ago.
same for me… aside for FotM, i feel the endgame is lacking in meaningful challenging content.
-explore dungeons feels like a “know the mechanic win it” type of thing.
-world events… sad… sad… ZERG
and thats about it :/
for a game that big… the only nice endgame pve challenge is a few mini dungeons with lore not related to actual world event ?
ish… please!!!
and seriously, gosh that game is well done.
the engine is smooth.
graphics, music, sound, ui, map design..
i mean, i tried other games and gw2 is very VERY well done.
my only little critic is about endgame content not being nailed (aside from fotm, but there should be a lot more of those from the start..a lot) and wvw/pvp lacking features and competitiveness and world boss/open world endgame being a bit easy/zerg/stale.
but aside from those few “thinking” design flaws, the actual technical game is beyond great!!! just put a good mmo designer with new ideas in there and it could have gone skyhigh! the team for the basics and gameplay and arts is too good.
im at 350h since launch and i have a lot to do/try.
i would be 100% OK to make those nodes on random timer.
to me “farming” in a themepark doesnt make sense, plus it would deter bots.
really… farming…?
sad…
more instanced pve content.
this is where the pve gameplay shine.
until they find a way to make open world content fun enough and challenging enough to be repeatable.
i find with 10$ of gems per month.
and grinding the stuff that you cant buy (dungeon tokens, laurels, fractal relics)
i can pretty much get anything i need, except legendaries.I’m fine with 0 gems a month and I’m still able to gear all of my characters and get everything that I need O_O
everything is possible if you play a lot.
if you tell me you can soak the grind and farm for 250 t6 mats or 250 ectos, well its allright, but i dont like wasting my 15h a week of playtime on “farming”.
to me its boring.
everybody who goes melee… is basically prone to die a LOT more while keeping your kitten guy in robe spamming is range attacks unarmed.
have some respect for the front line!
right now you can only get ascended amulets with dailes..
its crowd control
bit FotM are basically a grind in place to buy anet some time.
the older dungeon explorable modes were so badly designed and loosing steam. people got tired.
FotM are gameplay wise well designed. (lore wise its kitten…).
you wont believe the amount of players that basically play FotM more than 75% of their online time.
people love a good challenge with group.
world events are boring.
farming open world is boring.
dungeons are “so-so”.
fotm is the only fun and challenging content for a big chunk of the pve crowd i think.
i find with 10$ of gems per month.
and grinding the stuff that you cant buy (dungeon tokens, laurels, fractal relics)
i can pretty much get anything i need, except legendaries.
you have to make your own “krew”.
thats what friends are for.
make a few that have the same goals as you: wvw or pvp or dungeon, mostly.
it helps of they are in your guild.
charge in, do his big attacks, die or retreat.
rinse and repeat.
can believe dodge is your hardest…
just roll everywhere and it works; btw im pro dodger, i m a vigorous guardian!!
shelt/pen ??
what is that ?
This post following your first post in the thread is fairly hilarious.
dont worry, i m a casual, i grind only for whats not buyable with gold; dungeon armors, fractal relics, laurels.
everything else i can get with 10$ of gems per month and the stuff i loot along the way
shelt/pen ??
what is that ?
the only grind is for very specific style skins, and for the very top of the line ascended&infused stuff.
everything else makes sense.
game wants you to buy these mats with gem.
farming is for masochists
@akiko (its my cat name)
dodging is kind of necessary for any high level content.
especially if you melee…not really. I run around Orr a lot as a guardian and never dodge. obviously I don’t solo champions but I can easily kill veterans and up to 4 or 5 regular level 80-82 mobs and never use a dodge… and I am only in green and yellow gear as well.
When big events happen I can never see my Avatar or even the mobs half the time as my screen is totaly lit up with spell effects so I would never know when i’m supposed to dodge anyhow. (thank goodness for leap of faith or i would be swinging at air most of the time!)
(and Akiko is my RL name!)
This.
I said in another thread that I dont have to dodge on my guard, man was I shot down lol. Someone said id have smaller repairbills and figjts would be faster. Well I hardly ever die, and I dont see how dodging would make kills faster. Perhaps they assumed im talking dungeonplay, I dont do dungeons.
But doing orr without dodging is np, and like u said in events theres so many spelleffects going on I might as well keep my eyes closed and swing away. Usually I crawl out alive too! Lol.
sadly, this is exactly why end game open world is kitten and not viable in the long run.
most people “farm” it, but without challenge it gets boring fast.
use gw2lfg.com
its the unnofficial yet, offical, way to find a group in gw2.
the devs use it.
big events are a problem in gw2.
more than 5-6 players and its a spam zergfest.
some players like it, dont ask me why.. loot probly
thats why i prefer dungeons.
i feel that the gameplay is at its best in small group fights like dungeon and spvp.
zergs… are… just… boring imo!
but if there are mobs everywere just dodge around and it will work.
im a guard too and this daily is quite easy, especially in orr!
akiko is autumn girl!
nice name, cat girl.
game is perfect for casual… they ll never ever be able to even see all content.
dont worry for casuals… theyre still grinding their exotics (or paid for them with gems).
seriously guys… just run in a bunch of mobs and dodge between them all once its ready.
this daily is so easy..
i mean.. that easy..
its a l2p issue.
^
hahah
dragons are finished already.
give us dredges in a dungeon, they’re harder
@akiko (its my cat name)
dodging is kind of necessary for any high level content.
especially if you melee…
anet released ForM to buy themselve some time.
aside from some “holiday stuff”.
the new content so far is almost non-existent.
there is southsun… and its half baked, deprived of lore.
FotM are the “grind”, until they release new content.
its basically a loreless repeatable for ever dungeon.
(mind you, there is a lot of content already, but not for the players who need challenging gameplay).
LOL
If you lag too much to complete that “dodge daily” i’m sorry, i don’t want you in my team.
geez. i feel bad for you. you really must like action mmos to play them with such lag.
if you finished the story
if you did 100% map.
have all your wanted exotic / runes / sigil
if you have all 8 crafting skills at 400
if you did all explorable path of the 8 dungeons one time each.
and all FotM mini dungeons.
and you dont want to pvp and dont want to wvwvw.
and you dont want to do an alt.
dude, you played 400h+ without a single grind. gratz.
yes, so far the added content lore is not “efficient”.
-FotM are pure random bits of boring lore.
-Southsun Cove anyone ?
-Living Story have so far 5 lines of dialogue.
but, really, making an mmo, with “repeatable stuff” is difficult.
unless your whole story kind make it logical for it to repeat. which is difficult.
i still find they made a decent job at hiding zaithan story in the personal story dialogues.
rarely in the open world you will hear its name.
that helps!
i love the living story concept and adjusted downscaling.
i just hope they can actually… do some content…
and that it will have a nice lore.
the last “content” have been disapointing lore wise. very.
combat system is one of gw2 STRENGHT.
pvp and dungeons will require then most skills.
wvwvw zergfest second
and open world pve is a joke for a geared toon, not a good way to test the extent of the skill you can have in this game.
well, there would be a point if the challenge is difficult or ranked or you get a “score”.
but gw2 is faceroll thus i guess its a goo game for farmers.
only the fotm is some kind of ranked content.
(not talking about pvp wvw)
^
makes sense.
but aside from pvp and wvw.
strictly talking pve. how many times can you go faceroll orr before getting bored ?
you like to go faceroll a level 15 map with your 80?
so far the game pve only answer is the dungeons. fotm precisely.
“i get the questing with your friends and such”
maybe guild mission will provide good enough challenge! thats really a good idea.
^
thing is the open world just becomes soooo easy at one point that if its too rewarding people will farm it and get bored/fall asleep.
dungeons / wvw / pvp is where the gameplay shine.
leveling up is the single player / lore stuff.
its quite good. but after finishing the personal story, it dies out quick.
eventually, people will end up in wvw and dungeons.
that living story and dailies wont achieve much, except make us go visit the world sometimes.
fractal is definitely where i have more fun in pve endgame.
leveling up / exploring was awesome and unbeatable.
but now i want the tough content and fotm renders it the best.
well, that new amulet doesnt go with that logic.
its easy to get.. too easy.
its only a time sink.
As for your “geartreadmill=best” argument. You’d be surprise how much more people are driven off by having to constantly grind to keep up and even access certain content of the game.
Right, because GW2 doesn’t have severely underperforming numbers post-level 80 and WoW drove off soooo many players with their end-game character progression……
Just take a second to think before posting.
I’m one of those who got sick of the gear treadmill. Been WoW free since Cata. But I think GW2 will not win the hardcore WoW crowd since they’re settled with their gear-progression based gameplay. GW2 offers something different, and it should stay that way. There’s a melange of MMOs that have gear-based progression. GW2 is offering something different, although it’s trying to appeal to the gear-based progression players via Ascended items.
so far the players the game is built to retain the most are:
pvpers (in wvwvw) and open world farmers.
