What makes GW2 good with that respect is the things they put for unlocking rarely prevent you from playing whatever content you want, whereas lots of MMO’s use activity or gear gates to slow or prevent player progression.

That was indeed true of GW2 before they released HoT.

It’s still true today. Most of the content in the HoT maps is not locked out for you as you can still do 99% of the meta events. What is locked requires low tiered masteries which are fairly quick to obtain.

No, silver.

Nobody is making you do adventures, man. There are plenty of sources for XP and you don’t need to finish any specialization collections. IDK what to tell you.

Yet if you want to finish your mastires, you do have to play them. you see you need to get gold on them to unlock the points that are locked behind them.

I don’t know what to tell you, other than maybe read the OP and have all the facts.

You don’t need to get gold on any adventures to max all of your masteries.

TD doesn’t require anyone for map completion other than several of the hero points. You can solo everything else regardless to what the status of the map meta is at that time.

For HP, you can use the LFG system as it generally works for most people. It also depends on the time of day and what else is going on. You can also tag up or ask in map chat.

You’re behind enemy lines so there should not be safe raids just so you can get map completion or explore.

No. I think it was stated on the 2nd or 3rd page that it was not allowed.

Not allowed, but you can disguise it as “qaggan home instance party, complimentary nodes included”

Not really.

Why not?

Because it’s still an attempt for home instance nodes. Now if you excluded the last part about the nodes, you could probably get away with it.

There’s condition engineers with viper armor/weapons and sinister trinkets. They’re great for sustained encounters. The existing meta build has perma swiftness as you gain this by swapping between kits.

There’s reaper for necro if you don’t mind melee. It’ll let you use your GS and is a great class to solo with a lot of sustain.

I completed it on a couple of toons last week and the week before, and did not need to use any regen items at all. And I was sloppy, not necessarily being spot on with my timing. I got through it with no problem each time.

I went back this weekend and completed it on a few alts, and was not able to do so without using regen items.

Something had obviously changed. I suspect they hotfixed it sometime toward the end of last week, to make it more challenging. Now, however, they are seeing people using regen items to complete it, so they have to fix that.

This is pure conjecture on my part, but if I were a betting man…

If part of the design goal of the adventures is trial and error then youtubing the solution is a problem

Haha. Yep. It’s like those collection achievements in DT and SW which people just ended up using Dulfy’s guide for. It wasn’t intended for players to use outside assistance but then there’s no way to control that.

Because as much as it might be a surprise collecting coins from god knows what places in SW is pretty much nobody’s idea of fun except for a very small number of players.

Same with adventures – there’s one where you’re supposed to race some cars ( drones). Let’s think about it for a second – we are playing a MMORPG where people kill things with swords and generally build up characters and collect loot and other related things.
How many of these players do you think will enjoy a timed car race in their game?

Why would I want to do the Firing Range adventure and have very very poor simulation of an FPS experience when I already play AAA FPS games for that same experience.

That’s actually one of the easiest adventures to get gold in.

Is there a way to the champ spider without leyline gliding? I haven’t really paid attention to what I was doing in DS because of that stupid timer.

When you take the central route for the meta, there’s a mushroom to the east of the first camp. If you take it, it will put you to the south of that HP. You can then hop onto a ledge and use a leap skill (or a consumable) to hop up there.

Edit: Here’s a link showing how to do it. You can also supposedly glide to it from somewhere as well.

The DS point of interest in question can be reached with a hop-glide off the nearby mushroom to a nearby rock you can then glide from to get to the PoI.

I just glide directly to the loop rock formation (ring?) from the mushroom and then hop up to the platform behind it to get the PoI. Likely requires lean technique. The way you described is how I think I first got it.

You can do it without YouTube which many of us who did them that first week didn’t have access to. The videos just cut down on the learning aspect so all that’s left is to duplicate what was done in the videos. Players are still more than welcome to not use them.

Oh I’m well aware. But if the response is “go to youtube” that negates the reason for having adventures in the first place. Something about combining logic puzzles and a race makes these incredibly annoying. With the Mad King’s Clocktower (which many people hate and consequently don’t do) you can at least easily see where you went wrong. This is obtuse.

It doesn’t negate them. It just gives players a way to complete adventures quicker if they don’t want to take the time to figure out how to do them themselves. They still need to do the work to beat them though.

For anyone struggling with an adventure, check youtube.

This is ridiculous. I mean, yes, Arenanet has basically admitted that adventures are a scam to get views on youbtube when they said they’re designed so that people can say “look at this new strategy/path to do this adventure” but it is terrible game design.

If you’re going to have an adventure, you should be able to see where you went wrong in the game and see where you need to go in the game not in some external youtube video. If, for example, you could walk around the wreckage of the ship and see where the bombs and tendrils are before you start this piece of garbage adventure and plan ahead before you start, it wouldn’t be so bad. But you can’t. You get two minutes to run around and locate them, which is stupid.

You can do it without YouTube which many of us who did them that first week didn’t have access to. The videos just cut down on the learning aspect so all that’s left is to duplicate what was done in the videos. Players are still more than welcome to not use them.

Ayrilana.1396

To clarify: $50 is the price of the expansion. We included the core game as a free bonus to make it easier for new players to get into it.

The problem, as has been pointed out repeatedly in this thread, is that doing it this way basically requires established, loyal customers to pay for the game twice, while only requiring new players to pay for it once. Why should we, who have been here since the beginning, have to pay the rough equivalent of $100+ (not counting the money we’ve spent on the cash shop) while new players only have to pay $50?

For one thing, the content additions of the expansion do not justify the $50 price tag on its own. But more than that, it simply is unfair. You should be rewarding loyal customers, not punishing them. At the very minimum, you should be giving them the same deal, namely: you only have to pay for the game once.

If you’re going to require some players to pay for the game more than once, then you ought to require all players to do so. If you don’t want to require new players to have to pay for the core and the expansion(s), but only the latest expansion, then the only fair thing to do is to give the expansions free to those with established accounts. That way, everyone only has to pay for the game once.

Aside from the fact that the HoT DLC expansion is overpriced, the business model is simply unfair to established players. Why are we being punished for our loyalty? How long do you really think that loyalty will last now that you’re punishing us for it?

The policy is a big mistake. And while I’ve gotten used to ArenaNet and NCSoft refusing to acknowledge or correct their mistakes, this one is far too big for you guys to ignore. If you ignore it, you do so to your own detriment. The policy is self-destructive.

Later,
Drake

I bolded the part in the quote that you missed.

I didn’t miss anything. The point is, we established players have had to pay for something that new players are being given for free. It doesn’t matter if the expansion is free for them or if the core is free for them. The point is that for us established players, neither the core nor the expansion are free. And therefore, we are paying twice the price for the exact same (combined) product, whereas new players are only paying once.

Later,
Drake

So if I buy a GOTY edition of a game that contains the original game and all expansions, the developers are ripping off previous players by not giving them that same deal? How about when a core game get’s marked down as what happens over time? The issue here is not with what Anet has done but with some players not understanding how things work with expansions.

If you want the same deal, apply the expansion that you bought to a new account. You’ll then get exactly what new players are getting. Companies have always offered discounts or value packages to specific segments of their customers or potential customers. What Anet is doing is nothing new and should not come as a surprise.

The ArenaNet Response is very sloppy. The problem isn’t it being $50, obviously. The problem is why is there NO OPTIONS to buy the expansion on it’s own? If I purchase a car, I would understand that I will need to pay for oil change when I need to, but they wouldn’t make me BUY A NEW CAR every time I go oil change, so every time I go oil change I come home with one extra car which I don’t need; If I purchase a phone, I don’t expect to pay for the SAME PHONE again every time there’s a new case to fit on it, and I go home with one extra phone just to sit in the corner of my room, because “The phone comes with the new case! So basically your phone which you paid for is valued at $0 and the NEW CASE is valued at $800”.

And still the question remains, WHY CAN’T WE BUY THE HoT with just the expansion? NONE OF THE staff team can give me a straight answer, because basically old players are getting kitten. ArenaNet is ran by morons.

You are buying just the expansion. The core game is added for free when applied to a new account. This has been explained many times so I don’t see how it is sloppy.

Took our 5 man group around 50 minutes. ~40 minutes for 1 boss. Canach’s break bar mechanic completely bugged out so we had to brute force it with direct/condition damage.

It does not bugged out. The incredible break bars seem to be part of the extreme mode. We used 3 tornado ele and a chronomancer for timewarps to break his breakbar.

The hardest part it seems is beating Blighted Eir.

Eir was pretty easy with our 3 ele composition. In fact we did so much damage that Eir was completly busy rezzing Garm all the time that she never attacked us once after downing Garm once.

Maybe I’ll try that. The hardest part of that fight is getting people who don’t die from her fire arrow volley attack.

I disagree. Given the same amount of time on the other maps, I have a good sense about how to navigate around and also get to the various lead-up events. TD still has areas I have no clue as to how to get to…

I’ll be creating a guide soon on how to do map completion which will include some tips on navigating. I’ll go out of my way in some cases to show some of the ways, but not all, to navigate the map.

As far as getting into each of the lanes, it’s fairly easy and quick to do if you have access to wallows and/or the WP at the ley-line hub.

They apologized that they messed it up last year and I was hoping that apology was going to lead to them fixing it. If it isn’t going to get fixed, that’s fine. It would be nice to know though. So what IS the point of precursor crafting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ayrilana.1396

Ayrilana.1396

2) Actually it does make a large difference and I’m incredibly surprised that you don’t understand that. It almost makes me wonder if you even did the calculations yourself. You do realize that crafting something like deldrimor ingot and then selling it at the buy order price still yields a profit, right? You’re completely ignoring that there’s a profit margin for some of the ascended materials simply because they are time-gated and people are impatient.

3) We go back to my original post.

https://www.gw2bltc.com/en/item/29181-Zap

You stated that it was wrong. I asked you to show how but instead you ignored that and started arguing about the links and how they were 19 days old.

The theoretical cost of using a material for crafting is always going to be it’s TP price. If Spiritwood planks were 7g to craft and 10g on the TP, you would “lose” 3g (minus taxes) every time you used one for crafting instead of selling it. It’s not as clear as gold directly leaving your wallet, but it’s the loss of an unrealized profit.

It can be cheaper to craft all the time-gated materials you need, but not by much. Let’s look at an example using the above prices: You need 10 Spiritwood Planksfor an item.

Scenario 1) You instantly buy 10 planks of the tp for 100 gold. This means that over the next 10 days you can sell your daily plank, since you no longer need them for crafting. Each plank sells for 10g -15% taxes= 8.5g. Subtracting the 7g crafting cost leaves you with 1.5g profit for each plank, or 15g over a 10 day period. Since you recuperated 15g, the final cost of this scenario is 85 gold.

Scenario 2) You craft all 10 planks over the course of 10 days. Remember that their value is not the crafting cost, but what you could sell them for. Since you could sell them for 10×10g -15% taxes, the total cost of scenario 2 is 85g (Even though you only directly spent 70g on crafting them).

As you can see, it literally makes no difference whether you craft or buy the Spiritwood planks. Real prices are slightly different and you might save some gold, but not much.

I mentioned the age of the reddit post because you brought it up in relation to the 600g crafting cost. The market has changed so much since then that you cannot rely on the cost estimates made in it.

You were right that i calculated wrong though. I had counted the deldrimor cost of the first tier twice for some reason. If we take away that it still costs 850ish gold to craft, which is the current buy order. This is not accounting for the hours spent crafting instead of earning gold, or the tons of account bound materials used (Karma, geodes, bandit crests etc.)

I’m not saying no one should craft their precursors, all I am saying is that you shouldn’t if your main goal is to save money.

Is that how you’re really going to try and rationalize using TP costs for the time-gated items rather than the cost to craft? If you truly want to believe that then I’m not going to try and convince you otherwise. You’re just the type of person that I want to sell things to.

Also, please look at my previous post where the numbers using today’s costs were pretty much still in line with what that post showed 20 days ago. You’re completely ignoring that bit.

The costs that I calculated were in the 600’s. The items that can’t be bought, but need to be farmed, isn’t as time-0consuming as you’re trying to make out. You can get the 400 geodes in a little over an hour and the badges can be acquired over several VW’s.

Such as what? The cost was more or less in line with what someone else found which was just over 600G.

Just because you chose to buy the time-gated materials at their sell order prices doesn’t mean that it’s more expensive to craft.

1) I based my calculations on the crafting cost, not the TP cost.
2) From an economic point of view, crafting vs buying time-gated materials makes next to no difference. If you craft them all yourself you save money. If you buy them off TP it costs more, but you can sell all the time-gated materials you craft (and now don’t have to use for precursor crafting since you already bought those) for the exact same price difference (-15% taxes).
3) The reddit post you link to is 19 days old. Back then it WAS profitable to craft instead of buying, since there still was a pre-HoT surplus of materials on the market. Notice how I mentioned crafting The Legend shortly after expansion launch and saving money?

Since then prices have roughly doubled for most materials, so it is no longer possible to save money by crafting most precursors. The price for crafting Zap i calculated several days ago was 1100g by the way. Feel free to prove me wrong using today’s material prices.

1) Then you did something wrong in your calculations. I looked at the materials that make up the core cost of crafting a precursor and they do not come close to 1,100 gold unless you use the cost of buying the time-gated materials directly off the TP.

You stated that it was wrong. I asked you to show how but instead you ignored that and started arguing about the links and how they were 19 days old.

Hey, stop all these NS theory crafting and start crafting precursors yourself by buying all the TP materials and prove us wrong already ok?

If you find it profitable, go ahead, show me a screenshot of you buy all the materials off TP and then craft it. Do those that exculsively use ores or woods, which is like 90~100 of each t7 materials. If you refuse to do it, it means you’re just spreading NS that even you yourself wouldn’t consider using, and completely contradict yourself.

Price level changes, so we use the price level of the current materials. I can say that back then precursors are 50g, so should I use the price level of 50g for precursors?

I presented a website that shows the materials used including their cost. Those costs are then totaled. There’s no difference between me manually taking each item and making a table to calculate the total cost versus using the site. The same goes for crafting it. The costs do not change as you craft something.

All that I’m seeing is that you’re trying to dismiss what I have presented because it goes against your argument that you have been trying to paint.

Edit: Oh. And FYI. I just went through and calculated the costs manually. It’s practically what the website I originally linked stated.

TY, I just finished the act.1 and crafted the first step of the precursor (Jesus, it was very expensive)

Now I’m on act.2

So the Dragon Stand tower destroyer thing ISN’T bugged?

I just got it earlier without realizing it.

You should patchnotes, it was fixed a while ago.

I was never actively going for it. I was just simply commenting that I had gotten it earlier without realizing it was for the collection.

It is about having them now. They choose to pay the higher cost to have the time-gated materials now.

Just look at Zap

https://www.gw2bltc.com/en/item/29181-Zap

You could craft it, sell it at the highest buy order price and still make a profit.

This is wrong, the information on gw2bltc is lacking several ingredients for the crafted precursor. It is currently several hundred gold more expensive to craft Zap than to buy on tp. I just crafted Bolt today, and believe me I checked more than once.

I also crafted The Legend several days after expansion launch, that actually saved me roughly 200 gold. Seeing as wood is 90% of the ingredients and has more than doubled in price since then, it’s probably way more expensive to craft than to buy too now.

Anyone who starts crafting a precursor now is either too rich to care, or too oblivious to realize he is gonna lose a lot of money by crafting instead of buying. You are essentially paying a few hundred gold for a minimal amount of lore and story at this point.
