The first two bullet items you listed are bugs. You interact with the currents to launch up where you then pull out the glider.
This is strange, sometimes jumping worked… Thank you, I will try to interact with the currents, when I muster the will to retry yet again that story step.
Still, having an “instant failure” condition (falling during the forced flight sections) in the personal story is not something I’m a fan of…
It’s in sharp contrast with how chill all the other story missions are.I also don’t like the wind wall that CCs you constantly but at last that can be countered…
That’s likely because you got hit from a rock. I think you should still be able to recover and re-open the glider before you hit the ground. You can also take the updraft in front of the fine that reaches over the arena to the north. This one gives you enough lift when you first interact with it so you’ll land on the vine. If you don’t want to do that, you can use lean techniques to slow down which is enough to completely avoid the rocks.

I really think DnT’s branch in guild wars 2 should not be blamed for what the DnT twitter account did. Obviously Nike still tweeted the #first which is a little childish but I feel like Anet is going overkill with the punishment. maybe just remove them from the next wing of testing. not my decision though and im not going to be to upset as it doesn’t really matter. although i still feel like should have been done behind closed doors and not public. Also I would like to know hoe quickly the beat it (obviously it wasnt the 15min) but if they beat it in any time under 40min then I feel like we need to be focusing on that and how short the raids will be once everyone else will get them down. I would really like to know how quickly they were able to beat it so we could get some idea of how much content the raids actually are
Maybe an hour or two. Depends on what the timers for the bosses are and how time intensive things are between those are. You then account for their proficiency and subtract some time off.
Do the Silverwastes chest farm. This will net you the obsidian shards directly. I’m not sure how often people do it nowadays.
Dulfy has an excellent guide to obtaining all the Auric Weapons.
If you didn’t select a weapon, and don’t want to play through with alts, you can get more of them from a PvP reward track or by crafting. See the guide for more info.
Edit: Just noticed how old most of the posts in this thread are. Still, the guide is good information if you’re interested in Auric weapons.
You can only do the PvP track once. I know you didn’t specifically say that you could but I wanted to add that disclaimer.
Once per character. You do not get any awards the second time on the same character.
Hop onto the updraft closest to the overhanging vine on the north side. This will give you enough lift to glide onto the vine and avoid damage.
Otherwise, use gliding techniques to avoid taking any damage from the rocks. Quickly slow libg down is normally enough. For the gravity orbs, or whatever they are, it’s best to keep as far away from them as you can. If you can’t, keep moving and try as best as you can to avoid them. It’ll require a little bit of luck.
Difficulty getting into the air sounds like an issue with your connection between your computer and the game server. On your end, the best you can do is turn down your graphical settings and stop all programs outside of the application from running as well as accessing the Internet. This is just to give you the optimal chance at not running into any issues. Of course there are some things you cannot controls such as if it was on your internet service providers end or with the game server.
So you would rather kill spiders for an hour than do the Dragon Stand Events?
SNIP…
Now Spider Farming is not as fun, minute to minute, as Dragon Stand can be, but the difference is not that huge, actually.
SNIP…
I agree… I would even go so far as to say what is the difference between killing thousands of mob on the same 3 paths in DS vs killing thousands of mobs in VB(spider runs)… Honestly, there really is no difference, its all a long grind designed to steal time away from you.
If you crash or get DC’d during a DS run, then game over, you lost all your time, loot AND xp… If you disconnect during a spider run… boom, nothin happens… you already got your xp and loot, no time is lost. Dont even bring fun factor into it, as there is no difference between grinding mobs in DS vs grinding mobs in VB… at the end of the day, your butt is still grinding mobs.
How do you lose your time that you’ve already spent to gain the loot and XP up to the time you DC?
How would exalted wear any of the existing armor sets? To be honest, it may just be better to do a combat transformation tonic so you can fight with the appearance of one.
Plasma weapons cannot be purchased directly with gems. You need claim tickets from black lion chests so you’ll need to buy black lion keys from the gem store (or acquire them in game) and them gamble on getting enough claim ticket scraps for a ticket or the ticket itself. You then exchange a number of tickets to an NPC for the weapon.
Generally, it has been in the past easier and cheaper to just buy with gold off the TP.

The dps checks are so tightly tuned that groups in full ascended are barely making the timer. Ascended armor can be the difference between a kill with a few seconds left and wiping to enrage at 0.
You want every statistical advantage you can get on top of your personal skill.
For the the time being. We do not know if these groups are playing optimally yet.
They can just do what they did with the final story instance for the expansion and then add a raid section in the LFG.
The crashing… I finally experienced what many people were having to deal with last night. I have gone all of this time since launch without any crash issues until last night after I downloaded the update. Something they did finally caused me to start having issues so now I have to use the 64 bit client.
Are you sure it’s that one? I only ask because the last I heard, there were no descriptions for the locations other than numbers and these numbers didn’t match up with any guides.

Easiest is to find the date that brought that feature. I think it was around December 10th last year. Then count the number of days including the day it was released. A Julian calendar can assist with this. You could also just count the number of days until that date this year and subtract it from 365.
Edit: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Login_rewards
Looks like 337 days or so which puts it at 12 complete cycles
If you’re coming up with 12, that math is wrong because I have 17 BUT THINK(I could be wrong) it should be at 18, but, thanks for trying to help.
A complete cycle is 28 days. This means that 17 cycles would be 476 days (17×28). This reward system has been available less than a year (365 days).

I switched to DnT’s condi Engi build for doing the HoT story and it was fun. There’s a higher cost compared to other armor spec’s as viper armor is more expensive.
XP booster doesn’t affect WXP gains from what I remember.
It may be easier to help you if you can describe your playstyle. We could then find a class/build that closely resembles it.
Also, do you have the expansion? Mesmer’s mobility issues were helped out with the elite spec as you get passive 25% movement speed.
The hero point is west of Nuhoch. Just take the WP for Nuhoch and head outside. You can either close there from the top or walk over and take the path up to there.
The mastery point requires ley line gliding. You want to hop onto the ley line and take it W/NW. You’ll see the mastery point as you get closer to it.
Edit: Actually, that HP is not there. Let me look at the full map as that’s how I know where to get them.
Edit2: It’s at the end of the Beetle adventure. The mushroom queen, although a vet, is a pain to solo. The best way is to run the adventure just to get to the end. You’ll want the #2 and #3 skills which give stealth. Use them to avoid aggro at the HP and channel the HP.

You’re absolutely kidding me, next time you decide to add content like this please tell the community that raids have a timer, the whole reason I bought HoT is for raids. This is absolute bs, I understand you want people to play all aspects of the game, but a majority of players just simply don’t want to do that. A majority likes a challenge, and figuring out how to overcome a challenge, like the underworld on dhuums release, you made him extremely hard to fight and I absolutely LOVED it. This is a low blow Anet. Waiting two weeks to recieve my paycheck is enough for me, I play games to avoid the timegates involved in real life. Please see into the light, and get rid of this gamebreaking feature. Considering all I do now is low reward fractals, I felt as though I could do raids, and I’m not saying make legendary armor easy to get, make the rng on it super low, like the voltaic spear. I don’t play your game to talk to people in LA I play your game to challenge myself, and so far you have literally no fun challenging content asides from fractals 85-100 and I GET NOTHING FROM THEM. Real life people want to play your game, and enjoy their time on it, not do they’re second job after work, cause that’s all I feel this game is right now.
Hey did like months ago.
Hilariously, this is still a good farm.
Yes, the mobs give less xp, BUT they respawn just as fast and are easier to kill – meaning you can do it with less.
It takes a bit longer, but that’s what youtube is for.
How much XP an hour?
I personally don’t see an issue with timers but that’s just me.
It’s lazy. Instead of coming up with actual mechanics, they just slap on a timer and call it ‘challenging’.
The problem is that if you remove timers, what’s to prevent pkayers just slapping on as much vitality and toughness as they can so they can whittle down a boss? How is that challenging? Timers encourage players to play efficiently.
And why is “efficiency” the most important thing?
You can add mechanics other than time pressure. Their are lots of other options.
I never said it was the most important thing. Finding and executing a strategy to beat a boss within a time limit can be challenging and it adds in the factor of possible failure.
Mechanics like what?

Probably DS vendor for 500 crystalline ore.
I kid.
On a serious note, I was kind of hoping that these were just awarded to you automatically.
The few reapers I pugged with earlier I was thankful to have for their boonstripping, because we didn’t really have any other access to it at the time. I think they are viable, just might not be optimal
It’s pretty likely that you did have someone who was able to strip the boons, but just didn’t know what skills to use since it’s not commonly needed. You can get boon strip from:
Engineer – Throw Mine
Mesmer – 1h AA, GS #3, Null Field
Revenant – Banish Enchantment in Mallyx
Thief – #3 on S/DA necro can still remove boons without the loss of dps that something like a revenant, engi, or thief would encounter, but since a mesmer is already so valuable due to alacrity and time warp, I don’t think this is enough to make them highly valued.
Again, while they’re viable, have some strengths and I don’t think any group should ever insta-kick them…
But, I don’t think there’s ever a situation where you’d pick a necro if you had access to other professions.
Plus the new sigil.
Hey everyone, just as a heads up:
Raids Reset at 12:30am (PDT) Monday Morning
Beautiful. Thanks for clarifying!
edit Wait…so it’s PDT and not PST, right? I.e. as of right now, it’s 12:09 pm PDT, even though in PST, it’s 11:09 am. Just verifying since I thought everyone in the states ran on PST (and cuz I suck at time conversions).
Daylight savings is why. I would instead go by server time.
Edit: grammar

Question on achievements on first playthrough
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Ayrilana.1396
Ah ok they changed it then? So basically only the achievements that require a different choice cant be done on first run?
So I can basically run for achievements with my alts when I drag them through the story the first time?
Not exactly. I had to do the first story instance twice after the first run for each choice. Same for the final instance when you select who goes in with you and the instance before when you choose who to rescue.
We will find a new one, the way to go isn’t nerfing farms, but buffing events experience, when events give enough experience people will stop doing those farms.
There’s no need when events provide a lot of mobs that you can kill for XP. Doing the meta event chains is how I leveled my masteries and over 90% of the XP I earned came from mob kills.
I’ve gotten the bladed chest box with less than 100% participation.
You have to admit though that you saw this nerf coming.
You should already be able to assign chat channels to specific guilds.
Well now people can do the DS meta which was as good, if not better, than the spider farm.
Probably here:
You can use the wiki. The search feature on these forums is terrible but you can try a Google search as your question should be answered from the results.
Break bars are not fake difficulty. I also do not see how Axemaster has fake difficulty in the fight. You break his bar periodically to prevent a devastating attack. How is that fake difficulty? How’s it any different from using CC anywhere else in the game to interrupt an attack? I suppose in PvP that having to inerrupt a player’s attack or DPS rotation is fake difficulty?
There’s also nothing wrong about having masteries required, or recommended, for encounters. I suppose the final encounter where you have to fly up into the air to avoid the ground AoE is fake difficulty?
Essentially what I am seeing is anything that goes beyond the the typical Zerg/world boss meta of stacking and mashing skills is fake difficulty.
What was so difficult about her in normal mode? Her channeling attack can have its damage reduced simply by killing all of the adds before they reach her. Her circle attacks have an obvious tell as indicated in orange. If you’re unable to melee her for whatever reason, use ranged attacks.
Just kill the twelve mobs who spawn spread out all over the arena. But don’t get too far from the boss or she’ll spam knockdowns. But don’t get close either because then you get stuck in the constant rings of long launch CC. The best I’ve managed in that fight is to get her down to two adds absorbed in a wave. But in the later stages it’s generally eight or ten per wave. You just eat too much CC and you can’t avoid it all and kill the adds at the same time.
Stability works but not sure about blocks. You can also dodge her attack. I usually just DPS her down at that point while paying attention to her other attacks.
Plot Twist…. you can’t get into any active maps because the expansion flopped.
Brink usually has a low-medium population most of the time.
Auric Basin has a decent population….. but I’ve never seen the meta event succeed there.
Imho the best map out of the entire “expansion” is Tangled Depths…. and I’ve pushed the map to the Gerent about thirty times now…. and I have still yet to see it succeed.
Even when all the preparations are complete, and everyone taxis people in…. One of the lanes always fails.Constant failure = negative morale
negative morale = nobody wants to try
nobody wants to try = no attendance
no attendance = compounded failure
repeat
Dragon’s stand I’ve never even seen anyone trying to complete the events there…. not even once.
If nobody is doing the events there…. there is no reason to stay….. and if nobody stays….. the problem compounds itself.
Good luck waiting for Anet to do something about it tho.
Bottom tier WvW servers have had the same problem for years now…. where nobody wants to wvw if all they do is lose…. so once they hit bottom there is no bounce back.
They literally can’t figure out how to fix it.
Didn’t flop. Maps are just full and they haven’t fixed the mega server issue yet. Hopefully they will tomorrow. Likely the case based on your Dragon Stand comment as I have seen otherwise to what you claim in your post.
XP comes fairly quickly if you use boosters. None of these are expensive nor require you to purchase from the gem store.
Can I ask about the part in bold? What did you mean there? I know you get boosters from some achievement chests and such, but is there another source?
Laurel vendor has the +50% from all sources. The on kills ones are unavailable except from the NPE rewards from leveling a toon which can be converted. I always bring up the no gem store part because it’s inevitable that someone will in an effort to disclaim that everyone has access to boosters.
Edit: I think black lion chests still give out other boosters such as regen and such. I am remembering getting a bunch of boosters since HoT went live so it must been from them as you get a key once each time you run through the HoT story with a character.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
I personally did not find any of the masteries a grind when doing the story and I was one of the ones who did it while needing the poison mastery. I had gotten as far as beating the Rata Novus instance that first day but ran into the bug with the Aric’s markings not appearing.
XP comes fairly quickly if you use boosters. None of these are expensive nor require you to purchase from the gem store. Just focus on doing the meta event chains and getting as many kills as you can. I personally did the Pact Encampment chain in VB until more people started doing the DS meta.
Only a small amount of time will be spent getting the requisite masteries to complete the story.

You don’t really need a guild to get people learning the mechanics better. In fact, we’ve had guilds constantly try but people do not listen. There’s no way to fix that and many of the guilds are succeeding only because they can get the map to consist mostly of their members who will listen.
The events you do for each lane really are not that difficult. A simple explanation, normally given during organized runs anyway, is all that is necessary. No TS is required as killing one lane’s gerent doesn’t impact the other lanes.
The biggest issue is getting everyone on the map to help set up so everyone is split evenly between the lanes. After that, the next issue is getting people not to use CC. I know it’s counter-intuitive but simply asking players not to should be enough. There’s just some players that either don’t want to listen or don’t know a thing about what their skills do and they’ve been mashing their keys all of this time. It kind of explains what you see with most ranger who constantly use knock backs. There may be more possibilities but that’s all that I can think of.
I haven’t seen anything that seemed like artifical difficulty other that the migraine mode or perhaps upper tier fractals.
For axe master, you’re supposed to break his bar to prevent that attack. That’s one of the primary mechanics of the fight.
Wich just requires a bunch of people, not more skill. I think anything that is undodgeable, unblockable and pierces invulnerability is just cheap design. You would normally be able to survive this attack? Guess again! Random game mechanic! Your invunerability is no longer valid! They basically change the rules in their own favor.
No. It just requires people to break its bar which is still a new, and currently difficult, concept for people. This will change with time. I’ve seen it done with 5 people.
The gerent itself doesn’t need a nerf as you can burn it down very quickly.
What they need to do is to work on the scaling so a group of less than 80 players have a reasonble chance at completing it and also for Nuhoch lane’s events.
Swapping its attack phases so it does the rock ceiling thing when its bar is broken would help. Currently there’s no incentive to break its bar and some people are trying to figure out the best time to start letting SCAR lane’s NPC’s die so the event doesn’t go beyond level 1.

There’s no reason to suggest that they’re be any different that the Ascended Armor Chests. I may be able to complete it as I have 9 of those Leystone boxes sitting in my bank and perhaps some for the specific pieces.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
It’s always been a choice of choosing one piece. Refer to the FotM table when choosing.

Leystone armor cannot be obtained from vendors.
