From what I have seen, the entire HoT story encompasses not just the story instances but also the meta events on all of the maps.

Yeah, that does seem to be the case. I wish for people like me though, who just REALLY wanted to hit the story hard (im a lore junky) that they would have strongly hinted that some of the really big chunks were in the map metas…

Yeah. I didn’t make the connection until after I did the DS meta and then looked back to see if they did the same for the other maps.

No. Raids were possibly available within a month. Maybe. Depending on how they test out.

They’re also going to be massively gated by Jungle Masteries, so odds are good you still have some prep work to do while you’re waiting .

Massively? I don’t really see the first wing being gated by any of the higher tiered masteries. You’ll likely need updraft, mushroom jumping, and possibility poison immunity. I can’t see them going further than that for the first wing.

The #2 skill is buggy. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. This is regardless as to whether you’re moving or stopped when using it. It’s funny though since I completely stop and use it the first time which fails. I go back again a second time and it succeeds. It’s the sole reason that I took so long to get gold.

I’m curious to know if you actually tested the creatures in HoT? because, the fruits of your labor are screaming “I was never tested for real-in-game-testing”.

Smokescales: Just slap some power nerfs on these guys and they should be fine, but seriously, so much evading it is ridiculous.

Master Gwyllion: WTF are you thinking!? His mechanics don’t even make sense!! He instakills the whole group, and he takes a massive group to kill him apparently. I have yet to see a successful group yet. He needs a way to be dodged or something. He shouldn’t do 100k damage to go through deathshroud and full health in one hit. the smokescales don’t help. Needs a massive rework.

Any Enemy Frog dude: Shadowstepping is way too broken. Not too mention the amount of stabbings they do you cannot dodge. Let me tell you it sucks. You need to pull back on whatever super damage ideas you have. They instant drop on you and you only get 2 dodges.

Mordrem dissentors (I believe that is what they are called): They are in the instance that get’s you the guild hall. Outrun the fastest player and kills them in 3 hits no matter who they are. I wish I was joking. I don’t know why you guys are obsessed with killing players so much. anyone not a professional player gets wiped on the floor.

I’m begging you guys. Please fix these. These are the most obvious. Bugs exist and I understand that. Just please tone it down or give us buffs!! Please!!

Nothing needs to be fixed. You just need to learn the mechanics. For example, for Gwillion, you need to break his bar so he doesn’t down everyone.

Adventures too hard?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ayrilana.1396

Ayrilana.1396

After having played a lot of the adventures it seems some of them are horribly overtuned. There are also some other problems.

1. many adventures are locked 99% of the time. This is just dumb. Adventures should be open 100% of the time or should not have mastery points locked behind them

2. Adventures port you into instances that make you lose ALL map participation. If the map is done and I want to do an adventure while waiting for the meta I shouldn’t lose all map progress because of it.

3. Adventures don’t always work. Some are bugged, some don’t give rewards, some are too random. These issues need to be ironed out.

Some adventures are just too hard. If I am in the top 200 players in the WORLD after only 5 attempts at an adventure then there are only 2 possibilities. HoT is a horrible financial disaster that sold less than 10,000 copies, or the adventure is WAAAYYYY overtuned. I am an above average player, and I expect my ranking to reflect that. 10,000-50,000 ranking would make me above average. 200 means there is a problem somewhere.

Then all seem fair to me except for the golem one.

1) They’re not locked 99% of the time. More often than not, you just have to do the event(s) that are preventing them from being unlocked. It has already been explained why some adventures must remained locked until the events around them are completed. There are also 19 extra mastery points so you do not need to do them all.

2) From what I can remember, only four of the fifteen actually put you into a separate instance.

3) I have yet to see an adventure that doesn’t work or one that doesn’t give awards. None of the adventures that I have seen are really random other than the shooting gallery one. Fallen Masks isn’t as random as you think.

Your logic on the two possibilities is horribly flawed. The inability of players to obtain a certain score has absolutely nothing to do with whether HoT is a success or not. This just comes off as an attempt of you trying to insert an entirely unrelated opinion into the thread.

Your laughable attempt to find a flaw in my logic was horribly flawed.

I am ranked somewhere around 90% for AP’s, putting me around 10,000 players deep. I am ranked similarly in PvP. If I am ranked 200 in an adventure that I have spent almost no time on then there are only a limited number of possibilities as to why i’m so much higher ranked in this aspect of the game compared to all other aspects.

1. Not many people purchased HoT. If there are only 1000 people playing HoT then being ranked 200 makes sense. Above average, but not insane.

2. Everyone hates adventures. Since they are so overtuned this makes the most sense. If everyone just tries them once or twice and then says kitten this then it makes sense that after spending an hour or so on an adventure that I would be able to get to rank 200 even with a lot of players.

3. I’m an adventure wizard. Somehow I am God’s gift to adventures and I am really ranked 200 out of 2,000,000 HoT players even after spending only a nominal amount of time on them. (least likely option)

If you have some other reason why i’m ranked 200 in the world i’m open to hearing it, but those are by far the 3 most likely scenarios and based on 3 being very unlikely, and 1 being unlikely since the financials looked pretty good last week, that leaves option 2. People don’t enjoy failing over and over again with no reward and becoming hard-gated by something.

Sorry but making the claim that my argument is flawed doesn’t excuse yours from being so. You’re asserting that there’s only two possibilities which is itself a logical fallacy. Of those two you listed, one of them has nothing to do with adventures. Your AP and PvP ranking has nothing to do with adventures.

1) Source? Maybe people are choosing not to do adventures or they’re all getting similar scores so they don’t appear on the ranking. There’s more than two possibilities despite what you are claiming.

2) Everyone? Since when can you speak for everyone or even know what everyone feels? Just because you don’t like them, doesn’t mean everyone else feels the same way. Silver is fairly reasonable, in my opinion, to get in all adventures which are required for specialization collections. Gold requires a bit more effort but I have yet to find any that are really that unreasonable aside from the golem one.

There are various reasons as to why you are ranked 200. The financial success of HoT not being the one of two reasons that you indicated.

I don’t even know where they all got those mastery points as I am running out and I am around 50.

Careful about generalizations. Someone could easily take a week off of work in anticipation of the expansion. They may have spent less time getting to that mastery than many people have been playing as well. You claim to average 500K per hour. It’s very possible to average 1-1.5M an hour in DS without much effort. You can get upwards to 2M if the map is strictly farming.

I’ve seen a fellow guildmate tell another that he must have no life when I can vouch that he actually plays much less than her.

Everyone knows what the definition of insanity is and all HoT is doing for me is driving me insane right now.

this.

I agree, why lock master points behind these “optional adventures” for players that dont care for them? Not to mention, adding elite epecialization weapon collection behind these adventures is just stupid.

I’ve spend few hours doing Sanctum Scramble and I cant even get bronze, why does Anet force us playing these stupid mini-games?

They can be as hard as you guys want if they didt give so much mastery points, each game give two mastery and that is the only problem I have with it,you are forced to do silver/gold for the masterys.

There is a buffer of 19 mastery points so you can pick and choose. I’m also pretty sure that raids will give mastery points and future living stories. So long as they don’t add new masteries, the buffer will grow.

I found most of the mastery points to be pretty easy to get and especially those outside of adventures.

My personal ranking on the likelihood of someone new in getting gold.

Easy are the ones that require minimal memorizing and can be completed by having the recommended masteries. Medium are those that will require a little effort and memorization. Hard are for those that will require a lot of time to memorize the correct route and when to use the abilities. Sanctum Scramble is technically between medium and hard. Unknown are the ones that I haven’t figured out a strategy for so I’m not going to rank them. At first glance, they seem to lean toward the hard category.

Players should be able to do all of the ones in the easy category and most of the medium without much difficulty and invested time. Again, this is my personal opinion on what I feel that a new players would be able to do.

EASY

Flying Circus
Salvage Pit
On Wings of Gold
Drone Race
Beetle Feast

MEDIUM

Tendril Torchers
Bugs in Branches
Sanctum Scramble
Ley-Line Run

HARD

Shooting Gallery

Fallen Masks

Ayrilana.1396

I’ve been doing VB for the past few days and I haven’t seen any mobs not give XP? Sure you don’t get loot with every kill, but even in the core game, I never did? Did anyone else get loot every time they killed something? I’ve usually got all 18 slot bags apart from the backpack you get, and my stuff is always full. So I haven’t seen yet what people are talking about. If there’s 10% of the mobs that don’t give XP, that’s still 90% that do, and I suggest you focus on those if this bothers you so much? Just my opinion and experiences in VB so far.

What I’m thinking that they were doing was farming events that specifically spawned infinite mobs, it got nerfed, so now they’re upset about it. I’ve done maybe 90% of the events out there and only a handful don’t give XP. The most notable one that always comes to my mind is in TD with the Rata Nova event where you protect the NPC from the Chak before the champ event.

There is *always*an unlimited supply of mobs. NPCs respawn, if you run around the world and kill things you’ll never run out of enemies – why is this particular instance problematic? If we’re getting too much loot/sec for some dev’s liking, why didn’t they just cut the rate at which npc numbers scale?

Yes, it might only affect “a few” events (a quarter or more, to some degree or other, in my experience) but it has rendered those events utterly pointless to do for anyone who is not playing the game “just for the experience of it”

This is an enoyable game just to play, and i like doing ‘pointless’ (read: unprofitable) activities like flying around the canopy of VB, but when i’m doing events, even if i’m not thinking specifically of the loot, it is a kitten nice fringe benefit, and the same with exp now that it’s useful again.

It is just plain disheartening to kill an enemy and not profit from the experience. That is more or less the entire point of games of this genre.

You know full well what I meant by infinite.

Precursor crafting. I don't get it . . .

Ayrilana.1396

You really expected to get the precursor for only doing challenges and not investing gold by mats ? O.o

The devs already said before releasing it they dont want to crash precursors/forge and thats the right/good way!

As I stated in the post above, no.

A glaring issue with precursor crafting right now is for the following precursors it is literally not worth it to craft them rather than buy them:

Spear – 100G on TP
Focus – 130G on TP
Torch – 213G on TP
Mace – 279G on TP
Pistol – 296G on TP
Warhorn – 350G on TP
Scepter – 399G on TP

At this point it starts to get iffy as to the material trade-off, but you’re talking about half of the weapons being too expensive to craft. The incentive to crafting should be an alternate path, not merely a veiled replica of an existing one. They very well could have required you to do enough challenges of varying difficulty over a long enough period of time and made the precursors un-trade-able.

The costs to craft the precursors are tiered. Underwater weapons all cost one amount. Single handed weapons cost another. Offhand weapons cost another. You’re not going to pay roughly the same amount crafting the underwater precursors as you would for something like The Legend.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3q5yf7/crafted_precursor_the_legend_through_collection/cwclfp9

I understand this completely, but it’s exactly why I listed the precursors and their costs like I did. Even factoring in the reduced cost for one-handed and underwater weapons it still costs considerably more to craft them than to buy them outright.

There is a chance that it also costs considerably more for some of the two-handed weapons too, but we’ll see what that ends up being when more comprehensive lists start popping up.

Have you actually gone through the collections and calculated it out or are you just making an assumption?

Here’s the thing. If they increased the drop rate on those items that are more rare, the price would drop. The loot has value because it is rare (and desirable).

We’d also see more people participating in the new Maps. Last night at West Coast Prime Time, in the VB map, I was constant “asked” to move to a fuller server. This is not a good sign for the health of the game. You’d think that the first expansion in 3 years would have required queue times or new servers….

I’d much rather see a SW farm atmosphere than an “empty restaurant” atmosphere. I mean, these small maps ARE farms, with limited, time-gated, repeatable events and adventures. If they aren’t meant to be farms, then what are they?

Until they all got that now lesser rare item. We’ll now have them complaining that there’s now nothing worthwhile on those maps so they won’t play them.

Keep trying. Perhaps you may end up on a map where there’s a group of people specifically trying to get it to T4.

Hmm. So I guess it’s for my benefit to run each of my characters through the HoT story.

You can do them at any level but be aware that they’re on level 80 maps so good luck getting to them.

They have much more health and I think the damage dealt by them is increased.

I think they’re currently bugged as the breakbar regens at an absurd rate. Even if you grinded it out, you’d never beat the instance as you’re required to break the final boss’ bar during the last phase.

CoF Farming

I dont have issue with this for two simple reasons… first, they took way things I already had access to and forced me to grind it out all over agian for access to basic things. Second, anything new that they have added, doesnt give anyone an advantage over anyone else in the game. Lets be honest here… givin me a swiftness boost that only works in cities, allowing me to rez a downed player a tad bit faster and giving me access to a couple of vendors is literally nothing as I can get 2 out of 3 of those things before. We had access to a swiftness NPC to give you that same boost before, and using a quickness buff will get you the same rez bonus iirc… the auto loot is a Qol thing and a non issue… so really them letting this happen is the best of both worlds. It allows those that are mad to be able to quickly recover what they lost, and for those that like it this way, they can go about their merry way slowly earning it again.

What did they take away from you?

If anyone is going to do any of the legebdary collections then I suggest not doing the CoF farm but do SW and DT instead. You’re going to need currencies from those maps.
