They said ascended is recommended but not required.
The map reward system may help resolve the problem (not saying completely) and with so many people doing HoT events and salvaging, their may be an influx of silk. There’s also Wintersday as well.
Wow! I just read that. Sounds like a bunch of good changes. I would still like to see maybe a gold reward at the end of each fractal or maybe upon completing all four fractals. Something to guarantee that you didn’t just spend a rather large amount of time doing mostly nothing.
It’s only 1 fractal now. They’re likely adding better gold rewards.
I seen somewhere months ago we will get a mastery point for map completion retroactively. My question is, will it be one point for 100% map completion or will we get a point each time we get 100% map?
Only once.
It really depends on which statues you go for and whether you have help. You can probably get all 50 HoM points in under 1,000 hours.
All that exp will go to core map masteries. Do we even know anything about those masteries?
Mastery points will be retroactive if you’ve already completed what needed to be accomplished to earn them whether that be world completion, dungeon master, personal story, LS Season 2 episodes, and so on.

Mastery Pts qty obtainable for HoT masteries?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

As the title says, how many mastery points will be obtainable that can be used towards HoT masteries?
Based on the wiki, there will be 80 at a minimum. However, will there be a buffer or will players need to locate each and every mastery point in order to unlock all masteries?
This looks kind of interesting, and GW2 was listed on the games menu.
Where you see that?
On the menu, go to PC Games. I’m using the mobile version so it may be different if you’re on a PC.
I still dont see it. I am on mobile. Dont see pc option
Probably will have a general idea by the end of the weekend.
I’m going through the entire story first so I’ll know soon enough how long it is.
I never said I bought influence; I said I earned it ie. PvP guild does PvP —> influence.
Someone claimed we still had plenty of time to turn 350k into something useful. I don’t know how 1d11hr falls under plenty of time to spend 350k.
Convert it to favor? These aren’t guild hall guilds and the devs even joked about to ridiculously poor the conversion rate will be. That seems like hardly an answer.
My complaint is a lack of an adequate way to spend my influence.
Then why bring up the 1K gold bit? You can’t convert influence into gold.
At least enough to get every existing mastery.
This looks kind of interesting, and GW2 was listed on the games menu.

Streaming from a PC isn’t the same as it being played directly on a console though.
I doubt it’ll go to the console. Even if it did, don’t expect it to connect to the existing servers.
You still have plenty of time to turn that 350 K into …
To my knowledge, we will no longer be able to make consumables (banners, etc) after Friday. Is this not correct? Can we still make consumables?
I know whatever is queued will be completed, but 10 slots of build queue isn’t going to spend my remaining 350k. I’m been spending my influence from as long as I can remember—way before the influence announcements.
For those of you thinking 350k is no big deal, it translates to 1000g on conservative numbers. I don’t think anyone here would be happy on losing 1000g that you’ve actually earned.
Did you spend gold on the influence?
Guys, but guild commendations are still OK, right?
Yes. Those are not going anywhere. What’s still unknown, or I haven’t seen anything about yet, is how they will be awarded with the new missions and how many will be received.
Also be aware that everything that is queued when the expansion goes live will automatically be completed regardless as to how much time is left.
We’ve known about this since June. You also have time to spend all of it after the expansion goes live.

You forgot to add along side with making hero points in new area 10 per, instead of 1. Dungeons are getting gold reward nerfed to incentivize new content also!
Basically they are worried the new content sucks so they are forcing us to play it. At least that is my take on it. (otherwise why would you do soo much to force us to play there?)
They’re not forcing you and you’re making the mistake assuming that the only reason they could be making those changes is to get more people to play the expansion areas. There are more possible reasons than just that.
If I want to play the elite specializations they are forcing me. The entire world completion gives 200 points, you need 400 to unlock elite specialization (the only place to get the rest is new zone or wvw for months).
Plus the question of would you do dungeons if they gave you nothing??!?
And if they had made it so that you had to complete a quest to unlock the specializations? Heaven forbid that people have to play a little bit of the expansion to unlock things.
No. I would not do dungeons if they gave me nothing. Really not an issue as dubgeons will still give rewards to players after the expansion goes live. The only things being reduced are the gold rewards.

Hmm if the points are the same for elite als basic traits and utilities and you can leave out base traits taking elite first. Then a reset and redistripution would be a good solution. Making new characters to get elite faster is a bit ridiculous.
Unfortunately, the elites don’t unlock until you buy all the base/core tracks. So all the points you get through level 80 go directly to that. I was hoping it wouldn’t work that way, so I could save points from unwanted trait/skill lines to invest in elites, but alas, they decided against it.
Though, it won’t be so bad if the cosmetic parts of the track were left to the end. I’m hoping the devs were at least that sensible. >.>
Yeah. That was my plan too until I saw Colin’s post.
The mini gwynefyrdd will cost ten candy corn cobs.

Would you still do the dungeons, if they gave you nothing?
Yes. I’d do dungeons for the tokens. In fact, that has been the only reason that I have done them.
Same here, but how many others would have the same mindset? Gl finding a party…
Any evidence that it will be difficult to find a party?
some dungeons are already deserted like caudecus manor you’re out of luck if under 80 as the most i see is like 1 party bout every 6 hours asking for : 80s experienced berserker only.
It’s always been like that. Have you tried forming a party around reset? Some of the least popular dungeons have a better chance of getting done around that time.
still means you ll have to do dungeons at specific times if you want to party up and this is before the nerf .
Which has nothing to do with the expansion.

You could earn those tokens faster in PvP tracks.
Only because of the daily time-gating which has nothing to do with the expansion which is what this thread is about.

I am trying to recall a single MMORPG where an expansion handed out everything you expected to get with it up front, rather than making you earn it. I can’t think of a single one, and this sense of entitlement just truly baffles me.
Entitlement?
We were told what to expect. People planned for that and did the work asked of them. Whether you liked it or not we knew the upper boundary.
Then they changed it. Not us.
What? They did not change anything since they have not until now given a number.
They stated world completion was the max. Until the datamine of 170 most people were assuming 100 HPs would be a good number to guess at. When we saw the 170 (which again many did not believe) and the progression for a typical profession I realized I could not get everything right away but about 120 would give me a good starting build.
Can you source that? Because i don’t think they said that, I think assumptions were made. That being the case, if they DID change that, because I won’t swear they didn’t, I have the following thoughts on that:
1. It IS uncool to change the info this late in the game. So if they said different before now, then yeah, I agree it’s uncool.
2. However, sometimes changes have to be made, for whatever reason: health of the game, technical issues, other stuff. It’s highly unlikely they are changing things just to make things a pain in the rear for us.
Wanna know something? I kinda thought we would have our elites unlocked if we had done all the hps in the core world, and I would have preferred it that way, so I could use my elites fully at the very beginning of HoT. That being the case, though, I don’t consider this a bad thing.
My problem is the massive rage we are seeing here. The sheer levels of it is ridiculous. If someone said “I’m not happy with this,” I could understand, but people are just burn-the-building-down angry, and it’s flat out unreasonable.
I do not recall the URL offhand but anet specifically said we could run the new content with elites if we had world completion.
No. That was in regards to core specializations before they made it so you only needed to be level 80 to have everything.

Yeah, I really don’t know where they’re going, with this. This is my point, though. They’re literally abandoning the old content. They are doing exactly what every dead mmo has done, in the past.
They are not abandoning old content.

Or it will encourage more people who bought the base game to buy the expansion because it is easier. Frankly there’ll be plenty of incentive to go back to old areas anyway.
if they truly wanted this they wouldnt had bundled the core game to the expansion to forcefully sell it for 50$+ and would ve offered the expansion individually for those with the core game
i am a developer and work on net working as well and i know there is absolutely no limitations to having both options heck many older games have been doing it before even the mmorpg that must not be mentioned has done it .
The expansion costs $50 with or without the core game being free when applied towards a new account.
Nothing has changed about the hero challenges before or after the expansion. Once you reach level 80, before the expansion, you have enough points to unlock all traits and abilities. They have no purpose other than for map/world completion. With the expansion, they have an additional purpose for the elite specializations where there also happens to be an additional source in HoT. The old Tyria hero points are still needed to craft the original legendary weapons.
This is almost like saying Anet made them obsolete when they introduced champ farming for skill point scrolls. Except nobody made this complaint back then.

Looking at the progression tree, when I spend 60 hero points on Herald, I’ll be able to equip the Legend and a shield if I want, and the Legend will have no Heal, Utility or Elite skills as well as only 1 of 6 traits? What an awful decision.
Plan your build out before you allocation points and you’ll only need to farm 120-220 hero points (12-22 HoT hero points).
Hopefully you can pick them in any order, if so, then yes that will help. When picking traits, at any given level can you just buy one of the three that you’re going to use, skipping the other two and getting the next tier?
(I haven’t leveled a toon without Tomes since they changed everything)
No. You have to buy traits in order but you can skip the last two of the grandmaster tier if the one you need is 1st.
Edit: looks like I was wrong.

You’re confusing masteries (progression that I am looking forward to) with class mechanics (that I paid for as part of an expansion).
Unlocking new abilities and new classes has always been a form of progression in video games. It has been the case for this very game, it has been the case for GW1, it has been the case for pretty much every RPG, and I could go on.
It also happens to be a more exciting form of progression than unlocking any skin that you’ll know you’ll never use. Even masteries are, in some way, a way to unlock new abilities. (HoT) Masteries just happen to be map abilities, while elite specs offer more personal character abilities.
I’m personally glad that I can enjoy a paced and gradual sense of character progression with elite specs. I want my characters to feel strong because they worked to be strong.
Again, I understand that this may be annoying for players that have a lot of alts. But that’s pretty much it.
Not a lot of alts. One of each class.
I truly pity the new revenant players who now are looking at 40+ hero challenges on top of some tyria content.
Or they can get creative.
They get 398 HP from leveling to 80. This leaves another 122 HP that they need to unlock the other two specializations (including the final piece of the elite) for their particular build. That’s 12 HoT hero points. It’s 98 HP to unlock every utility so that leaves 22 HoT hero points that they need to farm assuming that they actually need every utility for their particular build.
They seem to be better off than already existing characters assuming they plan out their build before allocating hero points.
Be aware, you could only hold up to 4 or so of those chests before they will automatically open when changing maps/logging out. So, it’s not like you could do much World Map Completion on a new/low-level character and save them to open in the Heart of Maguuma.
Good luck.
I’m not sure hey even open automatically. i think they’re just lost.
That’s how the silverwastes chests work anyway.
I doubt they’re lost otherwise people would never be able to get world completion as a map doesn’t count as completed until they open the chest. A few people have had the issue before where they had 100% world completion but forgot to open a completion chest for one of the maps.

So, from scratch, is the number 250 HP or is the number 400 HP?
I’m not too worried on my two mains, whom each have nearly 400HP extra after my skills and specialization have been fleshed out to where I want them. I figured the points would become more useful at some point so have sat on them a long time.
Unfortunately, HP seems to be character bound, as they should be, I suppose. So, for a new alt, I have enough scrolls to start a new 80 with 26HP, so I’m more concerned in this case, what the cost is from scratch. Is it more time effective to level to 80, then use my 76 scrolls for HP. I’m thinking probably. Opinions?
You don’t get HP from items.

170 points, absolutely fine … it was a bit of a chore but I was up for it. In fact the past few days I’ve been running my various alts around the maps grinding out Hero points in preparation.
400 though? No. Too much.
10 points per HoT hero challenge? No. Reduce it to 1 point per challenge and reduce the total required to something more sensible.I think I’m going to take a bit of a break for a bit … this has just made me too angry.
How about 170 Tyria hero points and about 20 HoT hero points for a total of 190. Or better yet, just 40 HoT hero points. This of course all assuming that HoT hero challenge award just a single point. You said that 190 was absolutely fine so why not another 20 or just 40 that are completely from the new region.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
I see no harm in adding a few flame legion structures that could be destroyed.
Map completion chests gave out XP at 10% of your current level so you got a little over 25K per chest without boosters.
I personally don’t see this being a major issue like in the betas as we cannot re-roll instant level 80 characters with map completion done for city maps.
Is it just me or this zone is designed to make you extra miserable?
I was trying to grab a hero point here, and it’s at a jumping puzzle! It wasn’t that hard but putting a vista and a hero point behind all of this (and enemies constantly attacking you) in a low level zone isn’t cool, especially on how the vista is designed so you might miss the jump and have to do it all over again. I couldn’t imagine doing this in my older days.
A speed buff usually prevents any issues for that JP.

It’s 40 hero challenges within HoT. Even less if you currently have excess hero points. Not a big deal…
No it’s not a big deal to you, it’s a rather large deal to everyone who disagrees, which is the majority. (at least in the forum world)
Because 40 HoT hero challenges requires too much effort?
It does if most of them will require masteries already.
The first tier of gliding and mushroom jumping.
I wont be surprised if next maps are locked behind masteries. That might means more than first tier.
I’d take a look at what the other tiers do. It’s highly unlikely maps will be locked out by masteries above the first tier. I wouldn’t be surprised if sections of a map were blocked off though.
“Learn to enter ley-line energy flows while gliding to be moved along with the flow, gaining access to otherwise inaccessible places.”
We will see in 2 days
Yes but those high tiered masteries seem more like hidden areas and such. Not something preventing access to maps.

I bet if the player had a option to fully unlock elite spec for 200 or 400 hero pts, 98% of people who say they don’t see a problem with it or actually prefer it at 400pt would pick the 200 pt option. End of story.
And people who had an option to unlock it with 0 points or 200 points would choose zero. People typically will choose the option that requires the least amount of effort.

I’ve seen a couple of comments about having seen some not too hard points to get to in beta. Those were mastery points and had nothing to do with hero challenges.
Hopefully they just didn’t have the hero challenges showing for beta and there will be a couple in the first maps. But no, we did not see a single hero challenge in beta, which is why people were thinking Pact Tyria was the only source until Colin’s post today.
Except they give you an idea of what you can expect for hero challenges.

People shouldn’t too much forget what this expansion is : a big bundled season2.
You’ll have 4 maps like SW or DT, though bigger, but with the same big meta event system. Scattered on those maps there will be story instances and hero point….. + all the fluff with npc, lore, jumping puzzles….
Everybody will jump in the new map, discovering the mechanics of map 1 while exploring a bit (grabbing hero point), doing some story. Then what? well go to map 2 (especially since people like to feel the first, I’m sure there will be people in map 2 after 30 minutes), repeat the process.
Within the first hours, you’ll have quite a bunch of points to unlock elite spec and try your new builds and ideas on the same first maps….
This until you are fed up because there is no content so you jump on alt 1 and redo the same sans the story (b/c a lot of people say it’s boring) but with gliding/mushrooms opened so you can rush to hero points and map 2, 3 and 4 without any gate and with knowing the way.
Basically I wouldn’t be surprised that getting points on alts will be half the time compared to the main : yeah exactly like when we now levels alts compare to our first toon at release…
So before the raids are released a lot of people will have 4 to 5 toons with elite specs, made the 4 maps several time and get the new shinies on them, complain that the game is dry of content and that the story was bad…
It would be the same if they made maps like the core ones and included 15+.
