Now come on, look at that video, does anyone think that the average casual player should be able to play out that rotation?

Again, that players CAN do it that fast is great, and they can use that skill to compete for leaderboards, but the average player should not need that level of precision just to get their masteries out of the way.

Then they don’t get gold. And they do not even need to do that adventure in order to max out their masteries. Please please count the number of available mastery points.

Precursor crafting. I don't get it . . .

When legendary crafting was first announced, it was talked about how the most frustrating part of obtaining a legendary weapon, was of course: The precursor.

https://youtu.be/gxLkfXwxLTs?t=34m49s

Now. This had me pretty excited, since throwing money at the TP was… Well, not fun. Now I finally completed the first collection for Zap. I got my pattern, learned it, and went to check and see what I needed to craft this item. It became immediately clear, that the cost of materials, was not going to be part of the world, but rather, the TP. I find myself at an impasse. Where moving forward requires me to do, what I had hoped I wouldn’t have to do.

I have two choices. To throw money at the TP. Or avoid crafting this precursor. I had expected, or I suppose hopped that moving through the collection would have me doing challenges, and working towards obtaining the item. Not just simply buying the materials off the TP. To make matters worse, the crafting items in question are ascended, which means: Time gating.

So I really just don’t understand it. I thought the idea behind the collection was to have players running around completing challenges to obtain this amazing item. Not throwing money at the TP, as if the collection just didn’t exist.

Or you can play the game and treat it like a checklist of things to get.

Here one person who did that run getting gold and I already see how to improve their time.

http://youtu.be/55ggcWdVzUU

What the player did is that she or he used her stealth skill to get mushroom affect, then teleport back immediately so that she or he have enough time to run getting all masks with the speed boost. That is only way of getting gold. . And of course you need to teleport for that to work. >.<

Not really. It only saves them a few seconds and there are other areas during the run that they can cut down on some seconds.

So you would rather have no loot and just the event xp, than the loot/xp you could get from killing non-event mobs and the event xp?

Only the ones that infinitely respawn. The vast majority of events have mobs that give XP.

That hasn’t been my finding. About half of the events in TD and practically every one in DS spawns mobs – at set interval, so i assume related to event progression – that give nothing when killed. AB is patchy with them, and there are one or two in VB as well.

There are some where it’s understandable, where the mobs do actually spawn infinitely – skelk springs to mind – but i still think the solution is to limit mob spawns, not take away rewards entirely. The skelk event felt awesome to play with the huge waves of enemies which were rewarding to kill, and our group was actually trying to kill it (and succeeded, eventually).
Taking away the rewards turns it from an engaging experience into a chore. Oh look, the skelk adds are getting out of control, can someone get on that? thanks

I’ve done all meta event chains for VB, TD, and DS. The majority have mobs that give XP. When I say majority, I mean the upper 90 percent of them.

The endless spawning is part of the challenge for those that have that mechanic. It should not be removed.

Then you have somehow managed to have entirely the opposite experience from me. I wouldn’t go so far as to say 90%, but somewhere around 1/3 of all events seem to give no experience for killing the mobs spawned.

And i know it is part of the challenge. It is this design i am criticising, where you are offered a difficult challenge but offered no special rewards for overcoming it.

I guess my only recourse is to memorise which events are actually worth doing and leave the others to the poor people who don’t know better. That feels like toxic gameplay to me, though, and it’s sad to see it systematically encouraged.

All of the events in DS have mobs that award XP other than the blighted tower event. I should know as I was getting about 1.5M XP an hour with boosters leading up to that event. I was getting about 1M from the VB meta chains although I primarily farmed the Pact Encampment one up to the Sylvari part and then rushed over to finish up the Nobles one.

Which time zone, Ayrilana? And is that post-daylight savings change? Mad King Says was every other even numbered hour for me until the change, now he’s on odds (I’m eastern time zone) but would be evens for people in Central. So I imagine that the DS timing you describe will depend on time zone as well.

Well I’m referring to NA players as we just went through daylight savings. Previously it was for even hours.

Edit: Actually I just realized that I was basing this on what it was for me. I’ll refer to server time instead and adjust my previous post(s) to reflect that.

The DS map starts ever even numbered hour at 30 minutes past based on server time.

You get Mastery Points for getting both Silver and Gold, I think. Given that this is the case, my question to.. anyone listening is: Do you need to complete the Gold rewards on the adventures to be able to obtain every Mastery, or are there excess mastery points?

I think I heard that the overflow is around 11 mastery points, which is nothing if you consider how many masteries are tied behind 1. extremely high challenge story mode optional tasks, 2. gold rank in Adventures, 3. high skill cap mastery points, 4. highly complex map meta events (ie the one you can only get from clearing the Tangled meta).

You can skip one or two gold ranks maybe, but chances are you can’t skip them all.

There’s about twice as many as that. I probably only got gold in half the adventures and maybe complete story achievements in the only act that wasn’t bugged. I was able to get enough mastery points to max out everything and there are still many more mastery points that I can earn. For the record, you only need 112 mastery points.

Frankly, I haven’t noticed mobs that don’t give XP or loot but I can think of a reason they wouldn’t. You get enough of both through the completion of the events those mobs are in. I don’t really get the complaint .. what does it matter if the XP and loot come from the event or the mobs in them?

For argument’s sake, what would be wrong with receiving loot and XP from both the individual mobs killed and for a reward at the end of completing a given event successfully?

Nothing. But I don’t see the OP’s issue that even though you get XP and loot form the event, you don’t always get from mobs. To me that’s semantics.

It’s pretty simple. I get maybe 20k exp from an event – sometimes more, sometimes less. That event probably took me 10+ minutes to complete.

How many mobs can you kill in 10 minutes? with just a few small boosts active, i can easily get about 1k a mob, and probably make a handful of silver as well. Even at a fairly conservative kill rate, i’d pretty easily outstrip that 20k from the event and have some loot to show for it as well.

And then, just for kicks, lets tag the event at the very end of that 10min. Maybe i can’t get gold contribution, but i at least get bronze and i bet i could get silver for probably 15k exp.

So… what’s the incentive to actually stick with the event?

From what I have seen, the events where enemies don’t give XP is on purpose to prevent endless farming. Just look at what happened with the mushroom farm and then the skelk farm.

If Anet makes an event that spawns unlimited enemies until x objective is reached, they should make mobs stop giving xp and loot after a certain point is reached instead of not giving it at all. My biggest problem with giving no loot or xp for event mobs is that half the people just stand around and do nothing inside the blue circle while the other half kills mobs. Also, getting xp in the new zones is not easy. In SW, you had opportunities to help out at multiple towers and escort dolyaks for xp. In the new zones you are pretty much stuck in one meta event train and too bad for you if the game crashes when you are almost finished.

Getting XP in HoT is very easy. With full boosts, you can get up to 1.5M-2M XP/hr.

The Floor is Lava for example, or Salvage Pit, or Fallen Masks or A Fungus Among Us or Scrap rifle Field Test

Salvage Pit doesn’t require it.

A Fungus Among Us doesn’t require it. You just need proper usage of the skills.

I’m unsure about Fallen Masks as I haven’t figured out a good way to get gold. Most of it requires gliding/using mushrooms which are not affected by speed mushrooms as far as I know.

Floor is Lava can be done without speed boosts when you find the optimal route.

I haven’t messed with scrap rifle enough to really comment on it.

lol ..forced… the same could i say about masteries.. players should’t be forced to have to master masteries first just to play the adventures on a competitive level with others..

What do you think will you reach first..
Get 15 Gold within 1-3 days..
Or Grind the millions of exp required to get a needed mastery just to have a chance at Gold??

I clearly think everyone will have today quicker the required gold to get some helpful equiment, because stats play absolutely no role in staventures, you just just buy some karma lvl 80 exotics in orr and put the ruens of speed in…everyone who plays HoT by now should already drown in Karma…

For Speed Mushrooms you need to grind 3,3 Million Exp.
In the time until you have grinded this Exp out in the Maguuma Maps, I easily have earned already far more than 15 Gold!!!

Masteries are across all characters. If you don’t like that adventures use the mastery system then you don’t have to do the adventures.

lol everyones base is equal,.. please dont make me laugh.. have you even played an adventure yet to realize, that you get slowed down in them to move even slower than normal.
You move in adventures like a felt snail with just only like 85% movement speed or so, at least feelable slower than normally without even a trait, rune or swiftness ect,. to increase your movement speed…

Anet has designed the adventures, that you can get it easier by progressing your masteries.
Do you consider this also cheating? Ridiculous!! People which have learned the Speed Mushroom Mastery can move 40% faster within adventures where anet has placed them to give further progressed playes anadvantage there over players that havent learned this mastery yet to the point even, that this mastery is in certain advantures absolutely required to even have a chance at al to get those adventures done with Gold and without them you hardly make it even to silver in some cases!!

My equipment belongs to my Player progression and not only Masteries, so when I brign to an adventuires, that requires to be swift and agile equipment, that makes me swift an agile, then I think this is just being SMART and not cheating ROLMAO /facepalm

How about Anet just disable the adventures to players that don’t have the masteries used within them. Problem solved now as you are no longer at a disadvantage as you cannot even do them.

And no, I’m not a person that’s likely to ever get gold in any of the adventures I’ve tried yet, but since they’re obviously aimed at the competitive crowd I see no use in making them so everyone can win.

You get Mastery Points for getting both Silver and Gold, I think. Given that this is the case, my question to.. anyone listening is: Do you need to complete the Gold rewards on the adventures to be able to obtain every Mastery, or are there excess mastery points?

If you do require Gold Tier Mastery Point rewards then they do seem to be expecting everyone to complete the Gold Tier.

Some Golds are really easy. Some adventures I can bearly scrape a bronze. The difficulties of them vary wildly.

There are excess mastery points. Perhaps 20 or so but I’d have to check my list to see what’s remaining. You’ll still need to do a lot of the content in order to unlock all of them.

Does it belong to the dungeon sort of selling section or is it abusing the lfg due to selling access to “items”?

Both are unrelated to forming a group and therefore are not part of the intended purpose of the Looking for Group Tool.

Masteries are part of the new progression and I see no reason to retroactively award progression to them based on previous XP earned. Would you expect other games to retroactively reward you with XP when they raise the level cap?

Level cap increases are evil. No, I don’t think previous XP earned should be rewarded retroactively, but existing content/functionality should not be taken away and/or arbitrarily locked behind gates. They seriously couldn’t come up with 5 things for the Pact Commander mastery track that didn’t affect core content? Seems short sighted to me.

Nothing was taken away with masteries. Everything they added, you couldn’t do before the expansion.

The crafting “nerf” is because the 10 levels is based on getting to crafting level 500. The amount of XP earned for each crafting tier changes as well. This was changed about two years ago and doesn’t have anything to do with the expansion.

Posted by: Ayrilana.1396

Ayrilana.1396

Tarir is perfectly fine in term of balance (maybe the south+west could be easier, and north/east harder), but it’s really enjoyable

I have more concerns for the Dragon’s stand meta event … when a group of 6-7 players are defending a pod, sometimes for absolutely no reason, there is 60 elites and 40 veterans spawning on your face …

Pods are designed to be defended by a small group, so it’s hard to understand those spawning rules, it’s trully random, it’s not a scaling issue, i saw this when we were literally 7 around one pod

Dragon Stand is fine how it is other than the random crashes for some people. Groups are getting overwhelmed because they’re not performing the full mechanic of that event.

There are currently three strategies for that event.

1) Have a party specifically to kite and DPS the boss. Have everyone else in a zerg whose sole purpose is to move around in a circle killing the preservers before they heal the collectors. Preservers respawn independently every 90 seconds from when they were last killed. Swiftness will need to be maintained and you’ll need to break the preservers bar quickly. This is the easiest way to beat the event as it is pug friendly.

2) Do have a party for the boss and parties for each of the collectors. You will also need a party or two for the three pods down below and the preservers for them. What the many people don’t realize is that those pods below are what infinitely spawn the mordrem when the three collectors are destroyed. If those pods are not destroyed, the collector parties will get overwhelmed.

3) Same as above but ignore doing the pods below. Instead, have one of the collector parties keep their collector at 10% or so while waiting for the other sections to catch up. What always seems to happen is that people try to keep all three collectors destroyed while waiting for others to catch up. All this does is create a never ending cycle of waiting for others to get caught up as they get overwhelmed and possibly wipe.

As far as scaling goes, it’s based on the players within the event circle. Having a Zerg at a single pod won’t scale it up any more than having a single person at a pod.

What you’re not grasping is that the story doesn’t reside solely within the instances. Pay attention to the story in the maps themselves.

And neither did the story of the core game, all the maps, especially Orr had minor to major events that helped advance either the main plot, or small side stories. Yet the core game still had 8 chapters with 8~16 instances a chapter; this expansion however, isn’t even a quarter of that. In GW1, the expansion’s stories matched the size of the core game. Even the prologue, LS S2 was twice as long as the expansion. In all regards, the story was simply too short for an expansion, and thus, vastly underwhelming, and grossly disappointing.

Living Story Season 2 also told a good portion of its story through events, but those events where made mandatory, merged with story instances in a chronological order that flowed beautifully and helped fill in and flush out the story that instances missed. Why could they not have replicated that here? Would that not better fit what you claim they have done?

Point is, yes, events help expand the story, but ‘expand’ and ‘rely upon’ are two different things, and a story that cannot stand alone without the events to tell 75% of it, is a weak story. Simply put, I don’t think the expansion was a bad story necessarily, but it felt hollow, rushed, short, and unfinished(didn’t even have a conclusion), lacking most of the features that they promised would be prominent.

Having thoroughly enjoyed LS S2, I had believed ANet to have made leaps and bounds in their story telling, having greatly improved from the core game and LS S1, and expected HoT to be even better. This was my most highly anticipated feature of this expansion… never have I been more disappointed in ANet.

Factions matched the size of Prophecies? You sure?
Nightfall matched the size of Prophecies? You sure?

But wait. Those were standalone campaigns and not expansions. How about taking a look at EotN.

From what I have seen, the events where enemies don’t give XP is on purpose to prevent endless farming. Just look at what happened with the mushroom farm and then the skelk farm.

They have fixed these events in the laziest way possible, and surprise, this has created the problem that now instead of the events being worth infinitely prolonging, the events aren’t worth doing at all

There is a happy medium here where you allow the mobs to offer rewards but simply prevent it getting out of hand.

And since you cannot fail most of the events in the new zones, intentional failing is unlikely to ever become an issue.

Lazy way of fixing? Really? I see people that keep saying that as if they could do better. So how would you fix it to prevent people exploiting the event while maintaining its challenge? If you can’t think of a good way then you really have no reason to call it lazy.

Okay so I got to the final fight where you go into mordremoth mind or whatever arcane metaphysical thingy magic you thought of to explain away your inability to write stories.

Didn’t beat it, was doing it with a friend and we were doing fine but every time I’d get f’ed by that bug where my glider won’t open. But that’s not the point.

The point is => Do you write this aiming it at 5 year olds? You story is horrible. It’s beyond horrible. Your lore, while rich, within game is non-existant.
Pre-HOT you bragged on twitch how oh watch out for the sylvari conflict (racism, deep issues). Watch out for nightmare court and how they won’t follow mordremoth, and oh boy I expected some extensive story arcs there.

What happens? Oh look, step 1 => Eir dies, Faolain dies. Eir dies why? To give Bram a bow. So god kitten pointless! That removes that Eir-Zojja tension. You could have injured her and still given him the bow while she heals?
Faolain => way worse. Where’s my nightmare court story? Where’s the depth? Where’s Faolain/Caith etc interactions? Where’s other sylvari? How does this affect sylvari as a whole? Do some accept Mordremoth? Some turn to Nightmare? Some turn soundless? Where are small stories?
My biggest fear was I’ll kill mordremoth too soon, and you’ll just declare all sylvari are happy and innocent again. So you don’t have to write /create anything about it. Well looks like that fear’s been realized, unless there’s some bomb after I beat the boss? But even if there is, I’m guessing I won’t get any quality story until LS 3, and even then I’ll be highly skeptical about it.

Most importantly – WHERE ARE THE NPC’s I CAN TALK TO?
You replaced text with Dialogue, but there’s so little of dialogue that I find myself longing for old story ways. I liked old Tyria maps, now I love them. Because there’s just so many npc’s all over with their little day to day stories and you can read it and it’s glorious.

Not only is your story stupid (sorry, but it is), full of gaping holes, and shoddy (oh look Faolain dies, okay, now lets go thru the jungle, oh look Rata Novus lets find their research => oo tension (I’m really upset it’s not a city full of Azura we can talk to btw) => oh look Taimi’s character ‘growth’ (so badly done)? Oh look her golem dead, cry people (kill another thing => JRR Martin much?) Oh look dragons have weakness yay. Very anticlimactic. Oh look lets go rescue logan/zojja. WE gonna bash mordremoth yee! Who cares we don’t know how.

Oh look, we are here. How do we kill it? Oh wait Trahearn is sylvari! Oh wait ‘insert mindnumbing metalomagicalbobbligoodity here noone understands because it makes 0 sense) we think this ’ll work! Lets go try it! Oh look yay it works (except there’s bugs so you don’t kill the thing).

The hell?
I understand you rushed this xpack but seriously, fail. Big fail.

And guess what, I can solve this for you. Introduce LORE system (look at Wildstar lore system). Scatter Journals and pages around not with just 1 sentence in them, bug pages of text. That’s how you get short stories in . That’s how you get that lore in, that depth. You could have told bucket loads of stories about Faolain, her courtiers, Caithe, and god knows who else, just through big kitten stories scattered as journals. No cutscenes needed. Those who hate reading can ignore them. Those who love story and lore will enjoy it immensely and feel there’s some substance to this.

Progression through the jungle to kill the dragon => too fast, zero substance, minimal dialogue. Disappointing.

What you’re not grasping is that the story doesn’t reside solely within the instances. Pay attention to the story in the maps themselves.

You can also do adventures. Find a few that you can easily get silver or gold in and do those on a daily basis.

I think the regen on that break bar is way too high. We’re trying again another boss, and it’s impossible to break her bar unloading all of the CC that we have.

Invisible Mushroom King Location

I’ve seen this asked a few times on map so I figured I would share it here so at least a portion of the player base would know and could possibly help others out.

You will need Nuhoch 4 mastery as he is invisible. Whether someone else can get credit without seeing it or if he gets revealed; I don’t know.

Start from the far NW waypoint in Auric Basin. This should have been the very first waypoint opened as you entered the map for the first time. Go directly east of the waypoint and drop down to the jungle floor level. You should see a road. Follow it. In about 10-15 seconds of running east, you should see him moving around. He stands out from the others. He also instantly respawns if you kill him.

I’d post a picture of the map location when I get the but I’m in the middle of a skele ToT farm so can’t pull away long enough to get one at the moment until we our run.

[SUGGESTION] Destination tooltip for Wallows

As stated in the title, being able to hover the cursor over a wallow and see where it goes would be immensely helpful. Especially in Tangled Depths when trying to navigate it quickly.

[Spoiler Alert] Hearts and Mind Boss Bugged

Sigh. I reported all of these bugs over a week ago. It looks like they’re prioritizing fixing the bugs that cause crashes first and then working their way down the list. Probably also why they haven’t fixed a few of the broken story achievements.

One thing that I hated was doing it in a party because it felt scaled up and a pain to do solo as your members who die can’t get back to help. We almost had to restart the entire instance because I didn’t think I had enough CC to break his bar. Luckily I did.

[REQUEST] Increase map closure timers

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’m limited on the number of character I can have in the title. I’m referring specifically to the countdown timer that a map will close upon notice of a new available update. Dungeons currently have a timer of 3 hours before they close upon notification that there’s a new updates. All other maps that I’m aware of have a timer of 1 hour.

With the new HoT maps, this has become an issue to many guilds who try to organize coordinated runs but have to postpone them or cancel midway through because they would not have enough time to complete them. Dragon’s Stand was one such example.

My request or suggestion would to increase the timer for these maps with long meta chains to about two hours or possibly three. This will minimize the impact that updates have on guilds, or even people in general, doing these long meta chains. I’m sure it’ll also be beneficial for raids.

Still existing story achievement bugs:

  • Avoid Traps achievement in Strange Observations. I avoid all of the orange circles, make it to Taimi, and do not get credit. The icon still shows that I am eligible.
  • Cleaning House achievement in Buried Insight may be bugged. I have 31/32 and was unable to locate the last one after scouring everything.
  • Untethered achievement in Bitter Harvest is bugged. I scale the helix without getting hit by the vines and do not get the achievement. I should also note that I’m never given the buff that I’m eligible upon entering the instance.

Chak Killer achievement status icons do not update when you fail (such as when you die).

I got the beginner and expert, but died before getting master. I had the entire area cleared, the status still showed I could do it, but I wasn’t given credit. I did it again without dying and I got it. It may help confusion if it disappears after you die since that supposed to cause you to fail.

The achievement itself isn’t bugged. Just the updating on when you fail it.

Avoid Traps achievement for the Strange Observations story instance is bugged. I avoided both sets of the orange circle traps and completed the instance. Nowhere after the traps was I awarded credit for avoiding them. I still had the buff at the end.
