If they are rings then you can infuse one of them so you can equip both. It requires fractals though and getting specific drops.

Expansions are primarily purchased by their existing player base. If they gave discounts to existing players then they may as well just make that the new price.
What’s the point of offering a discount or bonus if you won’t find the expansion enjoyable? Whether or not an expansion contains those will not have any bearing on whether you find it enjoyable. If GW2 provided all of these, you’d likely still be where you are now feeling that it wasn’t worth it.
The first map has about 15 that you can get within an hour or so but you’ll need gliding for several of them.
Edit: Wasn’t paying attention and mixed them up. At this point, we do not know how the hero points will be in the expansion zones.

I was worried until I saw that the jungle zones will offer hero points 10 at a time. I’m not really seeing this as a huge problem. That is unless the hero points are blocked by other grinds like gliding etc.
If you need 40 challenges and want to do them all in the jungle, you will likely need either gliding or mushroom jumping or both to get that many. You may have some luck if you’re only needing 19 in the jungle.
Which won’t take that long to unlock. They’re like 359K to unlock the first tier or something.

It’ll be less than a week before someone has mapped out the most efficient route to get the HoT hero points.
this is a good question…i played all three beta weekends and i feel like i know nothing about what’s coming. i guess what’s stranger is that there aren’t previews on gaming websites etc…
not that much internal hyping. recent notes have been largely bad ones-dungeons nerfed…guild missions/fractals not ready etc. it seems like they would really want to show this thing off and get some good press from tenton and other gaming sites but…
Have you read the blogs and watched all of their live streams?
If they were to let people download the rest before it went live, I wouldn’t expect them to do it until Thursday.

Well they could do a story quest to unlock the ability to apply points to the specilization but it’s a little too late for that now.
If you have the final back piece, email support and they will send you the previous version. This is what they have done in the past.

Title.
This is unbelievable.
This is seriously insane. As an exclusive WvW player (very rarely spvp) I was scared that I’d have to grind 170 points to play my elite specialization.
I payed 100 bucks for the special edition to spend hours and hours in pve land?
Come on, even you guys that enjoy pve content have to admin this is a bit ludicrous.

Amazing how people cannot grasp that this is an MMO, they have to pay bills people. 50 bucks every 3 years is CHEAP for an MMO. If you are seriously that cheap for the constant updates (we had 2 seasons of the living story for free, which caused changes to the map that are NOT cheap to make). The original game was already more than any one off title had. You cannot PvP/WvW or the like in a sRPG…and they cost more.
It’s probably their first MMO, or game rather, and they didn’t know that expansions cost money.
everybody is like “It’s only a 5% increase on your dps”
do people realize that there are 10 players in your raid group? If you all have ascended gear, that’s a 50% dps increase as a GROUP
So if everyone in a group does something that sacrifices 10% of their DPS on an individual level, that means the group DPS decreased by 100%? Please look up how percentages work.
Difference in tiers is meaningless except as an interesting number.
Pretty much. That’s why I normally refer to the damage increase when talking about the difference
The danger in this is that the numbers get really unpredictable once we start talking about non-zerk stats. Every stat type scales differently, and the weapon damage difference is irrelevant to most of them.
Goes to a point from earlier the prior damage calculation assumes a zerk meta, which is not a safe assumption for raids
Which stats would cause a larger gap between exotic and ascended than berserker?
I meant the opposite, silly.
There are a few things that put more likely difference into zerker (most specifically weapon stats) as compared to other stats, especially defensive ones.
Ok. I just wanted to be sure as I couldn’t think of anything that would increase the difference.

I assume you mean (exotic armor+ascended the rest) vs (full ascended): in that case
Combat boosters… ahem…, food, consumables, correct buffs rotation. Any of these will result in a larger gap between (exotic armor+ascended the rest) vs (full ascended)
Also DPS wise (exotic armor+ascended the rest [Berserker]) > (full ascended [Insert any 3 pieces of non assassin/berserker/sinister here] + [some Berserker])
No. I’m referring to what the person I quoted was saying.

There are some mastery-gates on certain chapters (certain skills are required for navigation in the story chapters, because of their locations in the maps), but those will be messaged both on the in-game UI and in the story journal.
Any possibility of being able to tell us exactly which masteries will be required and how far in to them we would need to be in order to play the story from beginning to end?
I’m sure many of us plan to tackle the story first and wouldn’t want to get locked out from continuing on in the story (until we train the mastery that we needed) because we invested in the wrong mastery or masteries.
Pretty simple and 99% it’s mushroom jumping, and gliding. They are a part of the map. And the new story is right in that map. So it’s basically almost a given it’s these two. I honestly doubt there’s another one needed, but forgive me if i see it wrong
Btw I think both ‘first tier’ of these are enough to be able to get most of the map locations (you can get higher ranks in gliding/mushroom jumping, but those are for like really special places in the map.)
Yeah. I figured that but I’m honestly not that worried as I’ll have more than enough XP to unlock them.

Your argument isn’t even a little bit accurate because ascended gear is not a 12.5% increase in damage, it’s a 12.5% increase in STATS, which translates to significantly less than a 12.5% increase in damage.
Can we get a final, notarized result on what the actual bonuses are? I’ve heard at least 3 different versions in this thread alone.
Someone did the math back in April.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/31wbip/ascended_vs_exotic_gear_comparison_spreedsheet
And Dulfy says the stat difference is 5%.
Yeah, for the pieces themselves yes. But Dulfy here is bias. You wouldn’t compare the stat increase without taking into account of
1. Base stats
2. BuffsYes?
So it’s clearly biased. You don’t just compare the pieces of the equipment alone. The stat difference with you take into account of those 1000 base stats and 600+ from buffs would come out to be about 2% not 5%.
For example, just an example here: Say piece A. has +100 power, Piece B has +110 power
According to this, piece B has 10% more stats than piece A. But when you take into account of base stat, which you should because it’s part of your total stat.
Then how is 1100 compares to 1110? See? The stat raise is (1110 – 1100)/1100 = 0.09 = 0.9%, not 10%. That’s how math works.

If character A has completed the entire story up to the xpac, can I use character B to continue it? Example, can I make a rev and hop right into the storyline?
Yes. It doesn’t require the completion of any personal story or previous living story content.
If it’s opt in that’s fine for me. It’s not necessary to insult those who enjoy different things than you to make your request and argument for it. The people who do it will be losing out on an enormous amount of exp for the Mastery lines that they can casually get just by running through new areas, but hey, whatever floats your boat.
Just so long as the star is only displayed for characters who have legitimately completed the map.

Ascended is such an insignificant boost to your stats (About 5%) that I actually wonder if it would really cripple your team to use exotic armor. If we were talking about FoTM then I’d understand, since they have infusions, but I don’t see how it will be much better unless they plan on making ascended better in some way.
Actually, ascended is a significant boost when you look at the numbers. Take the Vale Guardian (first boss of the raid). He had 24 million hp. In comparison, Lupicus has 1.2 million ish.
The Vale fight has an 8 min timer. Let’s assume the Vale Guardian takes 7 min’s to kill by the average full ascended raid group (first kill was about 6min 20 I think). In 7 mins, the ascended group did 24 million damage.
As exotics do 10% less dps (I think it’s 12.5% but we’ll use 10), that means, at the 7min mark, the exotic team will have done 21.6 million damage and have to burn the last 2.4 million in 1 min. The exotic team would be averaging 3.1 million ish damage/ min til that point so at their current rate would require 47 second to kill the boss assuming no mistakes.
[I know this isn;t entirely accurate because the second half of a fight usually has higher dps because of traits like executioner and bolt to the heart, in addition damage during burn phases is higher than the average dps calculations but I’m only tring to show a rough guide.]
As you can see, full exotics cut it much closer to the timer and allow for far fewer mistakes. It may be a case, some timers are so finely tuned that it takes almost the whole timer to kill the boss for an ascended party.
The tldr version is 10% off the bosses we know about now e.g. lupicus, moss man etc are in the hundred’s of thousands. 10% off the raid bosses will likely be many millions in damage and to confound this their will be a timer, this is how I think AN are fine tuning/ balancing their raids.
Your argument isn’t even a little bit accurate because ascended gear is not a 12.5% increase in damage, it’s a 12.5% increase in STATS, which translates to significantly less than a 12.5% increase in damage.
The 12.5% increase metric is for damage. Stats is around 5%.

Is there going to be any explanation for why Canach shows up? In the beta he just kind of appears alongside you and the biconics with no explanation and it was a bit jarring.
I was hoping the beta was just skipping some introduction or something for the sake of getting you into the important bits, but this kind of makes it sound like the first few beta story steps are the actual ones and he really just shows up for no reason.
It was explained through living story season 2 why he was there.
Are people actually doing the escort when they go for the achievement or just standing at the entrance hoping to get credit?

GW1 50 bucks (full game campaign 6 character slots.)
GW1 Cantha 50 bucks (full game campaign, plus 2 classes and 6 character slots. Or two additional if the original game was owned)
GW1 Nightfall 50 bucks(full game campaign, plus 2 classes and 6 character slots. Or two additional if the original game was owned. Also the addition of companions, up to 6 could be earned and equipped)
GW1 EotN 25 bucks (expansion only, 2 additional character slots, additional companions, Hall of Monuments)GW2 50 bucks (Full game campaign, 6 character slots)
GW2 HoT 50 bucks (expansion only, 1 character slot if GW1 bought at full price, no companions, no additional races or classes.)You’re getting what Anet historically priced at 25 dollars for 50 dollars.
Your figures are off.
EotN was $40 at release, not $25. GW2 was $60 at release, not $50. Thus. HoT’s $50 price tag is $10 less than GW2, just as EotN was $10 less than a GW campaign.
Prices of games (and a lot of other things) have increased in 8-10 years. Now, that is not to say that HoT is or isn’t worth it to a given consumer. However, if you’re trying to throw stones at the developer using number comparisons, at least use the right numbers.
I used factual figures based on what I myself paid. I bought every release at launch. I’m not using figures from some website or someone else’s story. this is my actual payout.
Please put that as a disclaimer that that is what you paid.
I could make min/maxed build for speedrunning the Troll’s Revenge jumping puzzle, but how would that qualify me, for testing Raids? It seems it could in some eyes, but that’s not the kind of raids I was hoping for.
What do jumping puzzles have to do with group content?
Nothing – and dungeon speed runs have nothing to do with raids (or should not). That’s just my opinion – of course you can have your own.
Those who can do dungeons well, and work as a single cohesive unit while finding ways to be more efficient, are more likely to have the skill set to overcome obstacles in raids.

The Story will probably give a good amount of XP. Since Mastery XP is account-wide, and you can do the Story multiple times, as well as with multiple characters, that should give some good XP.
Shhhh. That was what I was planning on doing!
Must complete all 4 Maguuma mastery lines.
17 million xp per line from ONLY Maguuma
That’s 68 million xp
That’s leveling past 80, about 270 times.
That’s roughly 3776 events completed in Maguuma. (944 events per mastery line to gain the needed 17 million xp to master it).
If you did 10 events a day it will take you over a year to get Gift of Maguuma for the new legendaries.
(Please note this does not factor in mob killing)
Best of luck wanting to do anything else for the next year if you want a new Legendary!
Thanks but no thanks Anet. Love the game and the company but that’s ridiculous lol
And since masteries are account bound, you only have to do this once.
We aren’t going to release any videos, guides, etc for raids until multiple guilds have cleared the wing. Our goal is to preserve competition for all the guilds interested in progression and not spoil the fun of learning the fights by doing anything to taint that. We will do our best to ensure that everyone has the best experience possible in the raid, which is the whole point of having guilds invited to test these things.
I should make it clear that no one testing will be allowed to video, screenshot, or otherwise record or document any test content whatsoever, whether for use immediately or for future use. That is part of the NDA.
Any guild posting about raids will gather information, screenshots, videos, and all resources only from the released, live game and never through access to a test server.
That’s not the concern. The concern is that DnT will have advanced access to test and practice the mechanics of the raid. They’ll then be able to use that advantage to claim a world first clear on live.
It’d be like giving one runner in the olympics a 5 second head start, then claiming he’d won a world record.
Are you serious?
It is now public knowledge that these two guilds have head start access
Therefore any claims of world firsts or world firsts with members of these testing groups will be invalidated, why is this rocket science.
Because Attuned and DnT are part of the closed testing, they therefore are completely eliminated from the competition group and anyone featuring any member of the testing group will disqualify the world first.
Not all members of DnT and Att are participating. If 10 people from TTS were invited, should all of the TTS guilds be eliminated from claiming world first?
For all we know, those areas hated by the high tiers in the mastery tracks are optional. Maybe they lead to a JP or an Adventure. I doubt progression will be hindered.
I’m surprised that Anet still has so many versions up there to buy which only confuse players. They can remove the Factions and Nightfall standalone games as the Trilogy edition contains both for the same price that each sell for as well as a copy of Prophecies. The Eye of the North and Game of the Year games can be removed as the Platinum edition contains both for the price of one.
Better to keep it simple. I don’t see any value that someone could gain from purchasing a game by itself over the bundles.
I suggest buying the Trilogy (Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall) as well as the Platinum edition so you’ll have Eye of the North along with the bonus items which help a little.
The easiest class to learn and play is Ritualist. If you’re trying to get the Gods Walking Amongst Mortal Men title, I suggest starting out in prophecies and getting the Legendary Defender of Ascalon title before leaving the tutorial area. It takes less time to get than the other titles otherwise.
You then want to level up and complete the first few missions so you’ll be able to get to the major city hub (LA or Kaineng) so you can do the quests to travel between canpaigns. Nightfall has the majority of the heroes but EotN also has some. You should be able to get three right off the bat when you get to the major city hub. You can get a Mesmer fairly quickly in EotN by visiting the HOM.
I suggest finishing Nightfall or EotN first as this is where you’ll get your heroes. Make sure to get the quests for Razah and the other heroes before leaving the end area of Nightfall which you get to after beating the final boss. You can then do Factions and Prophecies. I highly suggest doing the 7 Hero Support Build as you can use it for most of the game as you get your points. It works best if you’re a ranged class rather than melee.
When going for HoM points, I suggest beating all of the campaigns on normal and then hard while getting the bonus objectives. You can then work on vanquishing and cartographer which is time-consuming. After that you can hunt down all of the elite skills for those titles as well as go for Master of the North which you should complete a handful of titles along the way.
Expect to spend over 1,000 hours if you want to hit the 50 points necessary to get 500 AP. It’s not something you can do in a week.
I don’t understand the need to have a specific chest farm map. (Except for the hordes of leeches that rarely have shovels. I suppose I can understand why they want a shovel train.)
When I want to use my shovels and keys, I use them. Right in the middle of the event map that I am probably already on. No need to disrupt the progress to the VW, no need to follow a tag. I just dig, and open the chest. Works real well.
Think of it this way. How many chests can buy people with a shovel each get when they’re on separate maps? How many chests can those same people each with one shovel get if they work together on the same map? It’s that concept although there are leechers.
I’ve done world completion on every class and have been able to solo every hero point. Some being more difficult than others such as the Snowden one with the Mesmer boss.
As it has been already pointed out, it’s not the hero points per se that are a problem, but the events that spawn on top some of them. Like the champion risen knight in Karst Plains (Malchor’s), which is very hard to avoid solo on some classes (at least without cheesing some environmental kits), or the underwater one below Sculptor’s End (also Malchor’s) that is just impossible to do on most classes if the nearby Melandru statue is pulsing thorns.
You don’t need to kill the champion as you can just lead it away or distract it with a summon/pet. There are consumables for classes that do not have abilities that provide them.
I never had any issues with the one in water. You should be able to pull them back far enough where you’re not taking the ticking damage but they haven’t leashed. I’ll have to look closer at that one but it’s never been one of the ones I had trouble with.
As much fun as this conversation is, and now that my lunch is about over, I’m going to take my leave from it.
My point is that there’s nothing wrong in a little mystery. Whether players know how legendary armor is crafted or not doesn’t put them in any advantage or disadvantage. It all comes down to Anet preferring that players discover some things for themselves which is part of the fun in all new content. It’s entirely up to Anet to decide if they want to reveal the mystery regarding how to craft legendary armor.
1 Priciple here ; Actions cause reactions, if someone is not satisfied by the action, then the one who caused it has to respond to that reaction.
Every teacher does that.2 Priciple help ; If the one who caused the reaction, responds, but does not clearify, then the one who reacted to the first action will ask questions about it again.
A never ending circle.3 Priciple clearify; If still both are in an captive conversation because of the first action, then the reaction has to become clearified.
So as you can see, Anet caused a reaction that i and probaply many other want to be clearified to. Infact revealing that Information for the recipes will do it just like that.
But by counterquestioning a reaction you will earn the exact reaction i showed you, because there is still much to learn in realife also. Does not mean i wanted to be offensive to you, but i simply wanted you to maybe see it for yourself.
Maybe you learned something now.
All I see is that you made of your own definition for principle to boost your argument that Anet should reveal the information you wanted.
Considering the action taken against other farms, I think chest farm is a blatant misconduct and should be dealt with; as people have said above, make chests visible to the character who located/dug them up only, and to compensate increase the drop rate of shovels considerably.
Those other farms were not nerfed because people were farming them.
champ farm was the ONLY thing people did in queensdale, likewise, chest farm is almost becoming the only thing people do in silverwastes when people have a plethora of keys.
Because after you have completed the achievements and collections, there’s not much other reason. If you nerf the farm then you nerf the number of people who even bother to come to the maps and those chest farmers do farm events too when they need more shovels and keys.
Are you sure that the anti-farming stance really isn’t just their anti-botting stance and those measures, such as diminishing returns, are not just there to discourage botters?

Anet likes for players to discover things on their own so that’s probably one of the reasons there haven’t been many details on legendary armor.
I think telling us that there will be Collections for it similar to the Legendary Weapon collections, or if the precursors are 100% drops, not-100% drops or token based, wouldn’t hurt anyone.
Does it really hurt anything to not know? Suppose they told you that it is crafted through collections. Does it put you in a different position than had you not known?
Its about the principle.. nothing else.
And what principle would that be?
Its very simple… figure it out yourself! Does it hurt not to know now ? I play the same game now like Anet… do you see it now ?
So you state it is out of principle, can’t name the principle, so you then tell me to name it for you? Convenient.
How are the existing zones staying populated today?
Is any of that changing with the expansion?
Are there any type of systems being added to promote people going to specific maps?
Did people still go to the existing maps (from release) when DryTop and Silverwastes were added?
Do people still go to those maps months after DT and SW were released?
As far as the comment that some hero points need a group to get, that’s false. I’ve done world completion on every class and have been able to solo every hero point. Some being more difficult than others such as the Snowden one with the Mesmer boss.

Yes. They even gave more information on how the new legendary weapons will be crafted and it already caused discussions on the forums. Why not tell us how to craft Legendary Armors and how to get their precursors?
Knowing how we will get the precursors goes a very long way in figuring out if Raids are worth running or not. For example, if we only get one at random after beating all 3 Wings then the Raid won’t simply exclude players that lack the skill, but players who don’t have enough time for all 3 wings as well.
Time is not an issue as individual progress is saved. You don’t lose that progress after a specific amount of time. Those without as much time will not be excluded. They just won’t have as many opportunities as those with more time. Really no different than with everything else in the game.
And them not revealing any information can cause conversations as well in regards to how the armor would be crafting. What harm is there in not telling and leaving it up to the players to discover? Do you gain or lose anything whether you know or not?
Anet likes for players to discover things on their own so that’s probably one of the reasons there haven’t been many details on legendary armor.

Like the recepies that arent discovered yet… after… 3 years… come on this is just rediculous dont you agree? 3 years… and they dont even bother giving this information free to us…. obviously they made the recepies way to kitten hard to discover. Screw this man.. iam getting more and more angry in the way they handle things.. it makes me sick!
Recipes for exactly what though? Are you really at a loss for not knowing the recipe for something that you don’t know? Think about all of the recipes that players discovered and the excitement that many had on figuring out the various combinations. There’s also more to discovery than simply recipes.
Btw I think both ‘first tier’ of these are enough to be able to get most of the map locations (you can get higher ranks in gliding/mushroom jumping, but those are for like really special places in the map.)
