LS2 story can be done for free if done with someone who has it that opens up the instances.

Price to content of expansions have never been equitable to the price to content of the core games. Anyone that has ever bought an expansion, DLC, and so on one know this.

GW2 released for $60, not $50. You have paid $50 but that’s about as relevant as someone who paid $10.

Quality over quantity. There’s so much more going on in those maps than the GW2 core ones. If you’re stuck on value compared to what you got with what you paid for the core game, I expect you to never ever buy an expansion or additional content ever again.

You were likely put on a new map for TD. Last night we tried to get a brand new TD map and counted up to six different maps going on at the time. For DS, the active ones tend to fill up within the first 15 minutes of when the map started.

This still preserves the difficulty of the challenge while still making it possible to get gold.

Ah I see now, not much to do then, yada yada yada………………………

Just do that lot and your done, NOT a grind. (Really).

There’s varying definitions of what players considered a grind. I went with the most extreme definition where anything done more than once is a grind. Yes, at least one person has used that variation of grind before.

Aside from what I listed there are adventures and general exploring that can be done including doing the miscellaneous achievements. The same type of grind that was in the core game, regardless of your definition, exists in HoT. If you dislike grind, you’re playing the wrong genre.

It definitely should be shut down until they fix the bugs. It’s wrong to let people spend that much time at something only to have it bug out.

Then simply don’t do it. What’s wrong is to force those who are still willing to do it to wait until there is a fix when the instance is still quite doable.

We’re looking at items that only just came out three weeks ago. Prices have fallen since then and will continue to do so until there’s no incentive for players to directly farm them. Demand for the flax seeds may all decrease over time as guilds have acquired what they need. Same goes for players as well.

I would personally wait until the beginning of next year before claiming that the current requirements are too high. I can assure you that Anet was looking at the long term when deciding upon the requirements.

Idea for scaling guild hall costs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Or people will have a temporary guild while they build their main one up at reduced costs. Or just create an entirely new guild and not move players over until it’s complete. They can just cycle players through for donations.

Edit: Read the post a second time. I agree with the poster above this that it removes any incentive to grow guilds as they’ll now be losing what they had already purchased.

I think the more time passes the more difficult it gets to compare an older game to its successor. Technological advances allow game developers to make far more complex content than ever before.

You need to consider that many players/fans take it for granted that a successor surpasses the original game in both quantity and quality when it comes to content. Unfortunately there’s a trade-off. Heart of Thorns clearly focuses on quality over quantity: Fewer maps/zones but far more complex and interesting than anything GW1 offered (or any contemporary MMO!). Fewer armor sets but (in my opinion) far superior in design and more customizable than anything WoW (for example) has to offer. Instead of boring fetch-quests we got fewer but more meaningful events. Now we have map-wide meta events etc etc..

If you want every aspect of the game to evolve and take it to the next level you need to be prepared to settle for less quantity. In that contex comparing raw numbers becomes more and more meaningless.

You and I have different ideas on what quality is. I’ve only seen 2 armor sets, and one of them involves getting a map to T4 then RNG to complete. The lay stone armor is not to my liking, but that’s my problem, not ANets. I’m guessing the others are the armor sets locked behind guild halls? That was a poor move, as only players in guild guilds will get them, sure small guilds will get then at some point, maybe.

As for the maps, they are nice to look at, but they are a tangled mess.

The T4 one you’re referring to is likely VB for bladed armor. The only RNG with that set is if you’re trying to get pieces from the airship caches. The blades chest armor is a 100% drop if you get T4. It’s a fairly easy thing to do and many maps accomplish this through the day.

You can also get one of the pieces by doing the story. I can’t remember if it’s the helm or gloves. You can also buy the pieces, except for the chest, from vendors.

if the chest is a 100% drop, then why was there the flame war on the forums about it? ANet didn’t come along and say, it’s a 100% drop if you hit T4, so….

Thread?

Edit: It may also require at least 100% participation level. I think Dulfy mentioned this in her guide.

Grinding masteries has become a hated thing to me. I have little desire to log in any more as I know I cannot complete anything else until I grind out theses stupid masteries. I guess a break is in order… I will check back in with the game in a month or so and see if anything has changed for the better.

You can still participate in the majority of the HoT content as only a few event require masteries. Even then, those required are not that high up there.

Nuhoch II – Wallows
Exalted I – Exalted Markings
Itzel IV – Itzel Poison Lore
Gliding II – Updrafts

This should allows you to complete most events, get map completion, and complete the story. That’s about 8.3M XP or 33 levels. If you did all the meta event chains for All of the maps, finished the story, and completed map completion on one character; you’d have all that you needed unlocked. Hardly a grind if you only do everything once. Any artificial restrictions, such as choosing not to do this or that, can’t be held against HoT.

Edit: Just realized something that will likely be brought up and I want to clarify. When I said levels, I meant times leveled after hitting level 80. So this would be maxing the XP bar 33 times while level 80 before the expansion.

Leveling MASTERIES is a CHORE

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ayrilana.1396

Ayrilana.1396

In my experience things only become a chore when trying to stick to a deadline you set yourself. My tip: don’t set deadlines. Just play the game and you’ll progress automatically. Choose the activities that are fun for you over those that give more xp.

It’s confusing that people call it a chore, if the content you’re doing to level masteries isn’t enjoyable, that isn’t gonna change after you max your masteries, so just don’t do it. Go back to what you were doing to enjoy the game before the expansion.

And what’s your suggestion for those of us who WANT to play the content we enjoy, the STORY but are locked out due to mastery-gates?

THAT’s when getting masteries is a HUGE CHORE.

How are you locked behind level 2 masteries? They already removed the itzel 4 req.
Anyone’s suggestion would be to play the game, it’d take less than 2 hours (from the moment you first step into the jungle) to get that mastery.

After completing Torn From The Sky you need to unlock the first mastery in order to continue to the next quest in it, the Story quest completion for TFTS tells you that.

So, I’m locked out of the Story till I grind enough XP to unlock Gliding!

Omg… that would literally take you like 15 minutes… if that is too much effort for you then you should probably look at uninstalling and going back to console games…

I think he’s just being sarcastic to ilustrate how ridiculous the whining is.

We are not “whining”, just stating the facts and our opinions.

If we wanted “grinding” we would go and play a Korean mmo.

(Off to grind for a bit !).

Grind has always been pretty common in all RPG’s. Granted, the amount of it does vary among game titles.

Cost of Ascended Gear

It used to be around 460G for a full light set. I can check my spreadsheet when I get home as I have been casually tracking the costs. I could also tell you what the prices would have been had they not messed with the recipes.

Keep in mind that ascended armor only provides roughly 2% DPS increase without infusions if you go berserker. What you get out of it compared to the cost isn’t worth it. Content also will not be so tightly tuned where the 2% difference will be required.

Ayrilana.1396

I think they get applied alphabetically. While it is annoying, you should have the that slot completed for all collections within 3 days.

In VB, one spawns slightly north of the SW corner of the map where the pod area is in the story.

In AB, one spawns in the water area on the east side of the map with the hedgehog things. Can’t remember their name off the top of my head. Just go south from that east WP. The open world story step takes you through there.

In TD, there’s one in the bug pits where you to the Nuhoch events. You can easily get here from the Nuhoch WP if you have access to wallows. Otherwise you’ll have to go SW from the WP and work your way around north to it through the cave system.

There’s another in DS, but since it requires you to beat the map meta, I didn’t think it was practical to list it.

We had maybe 25 people in Nuhoch and did just fine. In fact, we burned the gerent down to 20% in the first phase. Probably would have killed it had we popped consumables. You just need to spread people out to all of the mushroom tops and kill weak spawns as this supposedly makes modules spawn quicker. For the nodule phases after the first, you need to leave before the gerent going underground.

Five sets:

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Armor_art

If you count what each profession wears as a different set then that 41 sets. This corresponds to what was advertised.

What you’re completely missing is how they got to that 41 and how you’re unfairly not doing the same for the new armor sets from HoT. Let’s look at the HoT armor sets.

You have the bladed armor, leyline armor, and legendary armor. There’s three armor weights so that multiplies it out to 9 potential sets. But wait! Let’s not forget that it differs by race too. With 5 races, that comes out to 45 armor sets. That’s even more than EotN! That’s even on top of the HoT armor being much more detailed and complicated to develop over EotN armor.

Yeah this is one of the weaknesses of the story, it barely references the meta events at all. There should be chapters that specifically lead into doing the meta events.

My advice is to pretend the top left corner of the map doesn’t exist. Completely forget about it. Do whatever you can to get to ley-line confluence waypoint. This is your new starting point. Once you have this waypoint your life becomes much easier.

Start from said waypoint. Travel due EAST to get to SCAR lane waypoint. This hosts the 10 event SCAR chain. There are 3 events that cycle over and over after the main chain is done.

Start from home waypoint and travel due WEST to get to ORGE camp waypoint. This is another event chain with ~10 events and 2 cycling events after main chain ends.

Start from home waypoint and travel due NORTH to get to Rata Novus waypoint. This is the 3rd event chain with ~10 events and 2 cycling events.

Once you have ley-line confluence waypoint you can quickly and easily access these 30 events + 6 cycling events. These lanes also contain the majority of the crystallized chak boxes and is the starting point for the meta event.

The final event chain is located up in the top right corner of the map. It is harder to get to, but does give you access to multiple wallows to quickly move around the map. It also contains a 10 event chain with 2 cycling events.

Hope that helps!

Small addition to an otherwise excellent and extremely helpful comment: forget about map completion until you have maximum Nuhoch mastery.

You don’t need max. You can get by just fine without it.

There are some areas that are locked behind the Chak Acid mastery, unless you’ve found ways around those (I’d be happy to hear them because that’s all that’s in the way of map completion for me)

Chat acid mastery just allows you to dodge to remove the acid stacks.

Unfortunately all you can do is restart the instance.

I reported that a day after release and it still hasn’t been fixed like many of the other bug reports I submitted.

For example, before release we were able to download the expansion and get a sneak peak at the achievements and such. There’s one of the activities that’s missing it’s text and is just blank. I reported that before the expansion went live and it still has not been fixed. You think something as minor as putting the activity’s title back would have gotten done. Nope.

I already temporarily stopped reporting bugs including one that I found in the TD story instance yesterday with the Chak which forces you to have to re-do the entire instance. If Tuesday’s update doesn’t resolve any of the bugs I had reported, I’ll probably just abandon reporting them altogether as I don’t see the point anymore.

If I remember correctly, the EotN armor were just re-skins of existing armor. Kind of like how a lot of the dungeons were copy and pasted from other dungeons.

the reskins had some things added to them, some of them had different places you could color them. Most were not reskins though. You can look through them, the GW1 wiki was quite extensive.

Re-skins are where you have essentially the same model but just change the textures. The wiki has the comparisons.

Here’s one for warrior.

I did say most weren’t reskins right? The ones that were, had some slight changes to the models. In the one you linked, the legs and the Boots were slightly different. The helm too. The spikes stick out about 1/4 of an inch more.

I don’t really feel like going through each and every iteration of armor as there’s really no point. Not everything in that expansion was unique and quite a lot of the assets they had used previously were re-used.

Ayrilana.1396

It’s recommended. You can still beat them in exotics but you have less room for error. Fortunately armor provides such a small boost relative to the rest which means you shouldn’t stress out over ascended armor.

And since there always seems to be that one person who makes the inevitable mistake about percentages, I’ll correct them now. A 2% DPS loss for each of the 10 players on an individual level does not equate to a 20% DPS loss for the group.

True, but the equivalent over 10 people is like having 10.2 people doing damage instead of 10 people. Basically like having 1/5th an extra person total if everyone did 2% more damage. Its definitely not game changing by any means. its basically the equivalent of 20% more damage for ONE person total over 10 people.

Regardless, I’m glad Ascended armor isn’t that big of a deal. Now we just need better drop rates from fractals on weapons (15% like before the patch would be nice).

Show me how you went from 2% to 20%.

This is per week, but this would still be more gold per day than dungeons right now 1:1. This is also probably where all the ascended equipment drops went that everyone has been complaining about (rightly so).

Pretty ****ty of Anet to take ascended drops out of Fractals and move them to raids… Along with the liquid gold they’ve murdered fractals.

I thought they said that the ascended not coming from fractals was a bug.

They said that? That’s news to me – so far they have ignored every thread on the matter.

It may have been John Smith’s “I’ll look into it” and how some people were taking it to be. I guess we’ll see what they do.

I think you just killed the gerent but didnt finish the Meta event. The event probably failed, the Mistward helm is in the giant chest you get fo rbeating the whole event.

That or they didn’t realize there was a chest.

TD Meta - is anyone still trying?

Just out of curious, people who have won TD Meta, would they do it again? and again?

Yes. It was fun.

for me the tough part is the coarse sand… trying to find a better place then drytop to get the silly sand etc… whats a good place other then that?

In VB, there’s a spot west of the pits adventure. It’s where you start the escort event for the Doctor NPC during the Pact Encampment meta. From the shrouded ruins WP, go west and then take a left up the stairs away from where the bomb event is for the Pale Reaver meta that opens up access.
