I enjoy underwater combat from time to time. There is a long list of things that ArenaNet is working on currently and many more things that they’ve put on the back burner. Who is to say that underwater combat won’t play a larger role in the future? That when it does they won’t give us options to earn and/or craft better aqua breathers?
If underwater combat were removed then we would either have no ability to swim or we could swim through large sections without any enemy engagement whatsoever? No thank you.
Learn how to fight underwater or gtfo.
Interesting that you all are thinking of only one aspect of the Ritualist class: Spirits.
Love to break it to you but there is PLENTY for ArenaNet to play with in order to make it a viable class. Do you so easily forget about weapon spells and summoning ashes? It wouldn’t be the same as GW1 but it could be something sweet to play.
Maybe because that wasn’t as fun as Spirit spammer? Or maybe because everyone and they’r mother used that to farm UW which I don’t know if was even possible with ashes.
That’s fine, Letifer, however is doesn’t negate the fact that the Ritualist was more than “spirit spammer”. Ritualist was my primary for years in Gw1 – I learned to use all types of builds. Regardless the issue isn’t what may or may not have been fun in GW1, its if the class could be adapted into the GW2 mechanic.
It is just too much for way too circumstantial situations. Under that logic why don’t we have the option to type a password in to start our car after already putting the key into the ignition in order to release the break, for the same or similar reasons as you list above.
The point is that doing such a thing ends up causing more problems with people setting it up, forgetting their password, getting locked out and creating tickets (thus creating manpower to fix user error) to get it solved. Also cause legit issues of the system corrupting passwords and having to be fixed (more manpower to fix). In the end, it causes many more problems than it solves because the only problems it potentially solves are extremely situational. It is a form of risk management.

There comes a point where we need to take responsibility for the security of our accounts, not just slapping layer after layer of additional security down.

I personally believe that at the end of this (when hopefully a solution that pleases everyone has been reached), it’s better if we can say we made a difference without resorting to something that only increases the one thing we’re criticizing: the toxicity and constant conflict in map chat.
Though it comes to a point where I can only tolerate spending so much time reporting, blocking, or turning off mapchat entirely for so long. I’ve reached breaking point.
I did find your entire post calming and optimistic however – and I thank you for it.
Like putting a safe inside a safe inside a vault. Mkay.
Believe the OP was saying that a Legendary World Boss shouldn’t be melting like butter and die so quickly that if you’re not fast on your feet you may not make it.
What is the order of the Frostgorge train now?
I believe it is Wurm-Drake-Troll, with an interruption every 30 minutes for the Trio (Fish, Kodan, Norn).
If you really want the QD train gone from the starter zone, why not (like, for example, Wasbunny a page or two before) propose to make it so that those people will want to leave on their own, instead of trying to force them to move?
Yes, that is much harder than simply shouting “Kill the train”. It is also far better for the community.
If you’ve read previous posts you would see that I’ve said more than just “Kill the train”. I’m a supporter of its relocation. Though honestly if its supporters moved to another zone (not a starter zone, please), then it wouldn’t be the QD train anymore now would it? In a sense that is the same thing as killing it.
Would be wonderful if we could just “lure them away with a carrot”, towards greener pastures. Absolutely. But as there are already other options for Dailies/Monthlies, champ farming, and general “no thought required” gameplay systems in place and they don’t have any interest in leaving for those. Why would it be any different now?
Because its better for the community if we just say “Please?” and/or just ignore its existence?
On the bright side – making people buy more copies of sigils means more demand in the market.
and more gold lost in TP fees.
Debbie downer, I smite at thee! xD
For new skills maybe add a new area and attach them to completion of an event or boss there.
There is so many better ideas than what we got. I have no idea what they were thinking.
Edit: As soon as I hit reply I figured out the answer to my question. They want to charge for stuff you already got for free. Nothing more nothing less.
I’m not happy with the 4/15 update any more than you are, I think. However I do believe a part of their intent was to spread the traits out just about everywhere so it would pull people to those locations. Doing as you suggest, making a new location/event just for the sake of gaining a new trait or skill would only promote another giant blob of people at that new location/event.
Perhaps I’m giving them way too much credit here though… as much of what the did has achieved just that. Some horrible things have been created with good intentions, this is no different.
On the bright side – making people buy more copies of sigils means more demand in the market.
Very good explanation
but I was waiting for the part where you explained how suddenly people have stopped rezzing because of megaservers… maybe that part of the post ended up on a different server? O_O! Aaaaargh curse you megaservers!!
I couldn’t help but laugh at that. So thank you.
One could easily say that megaservers have produced the perfect environment to breed and nurture apathy. Goodbye to the communities we cherished, hello to this new future of GW2.
Why would people in QD train need to learn how to dodge in a dungeon? If they have to learn how to dodge in harder content, they should learn it there, it has nothing to do with QD train. QD train have no need for “Learn to play” mentality. We have no need for your speed run, Experienced, zerg or kicked in QD train. Your reasoning is beyond me.
The OP’s reasoning is that it doesn’t belong in a starter zone. A zone where new players log in and get a first impression of the game. An impression that mindlessly zerging, not learning proper game mechanics, and not ever getting in the way of said zerg is what one HAS to learn.
Its fine if you don’t like a “learn to play” mentality — just gtfo of a starter zone then.
I’m only speaking for myself here – but when I feel the need to derail the QD train (whether I act on that feeling or otherwise) it isn’t because of a “dev post or video”, its my own interpretation that what I see happening is horribly wrong.
And this type of behaviour (actively trying to destroy the fun of group of people that offend you simply by playing the game differently) is actually far more detrimental to the community than what you are trying to stop. Even assuming that the trains are detrimental to the community in any way, which is not so certain.
I’m not hiding behind a mask here, Astral. Nor am I “destroying the fun” of a group because said group has personally offended ME. If you want to stay in denial over the fact that the QD train produces a lot of hate, that there really isn’t ANYTHING wrong with it, that this thread hasn’t covered some very valid issues — Then be my guest. Can’t stop you.
Also please don’t assume I’m one of those people that logs online each day with the full intent of derailing the QD train. Like I’m some evil kitten that just gets her kicks off of doing just that. When I have to be in the zone, and trust me I don’t like it when I have to because of the QD train, THATS when I see bullkitten and have to act on it sometimes. Nor am I the only one! You can dust the problems the QD train has under the rug, if you like, just to focus on those of us that can’t just stand by.
Truly don’t care at this point. If my actions help to draw attention to the problem, whether I somehow get a ban or not, then I’m doing good. That atmosphere doesn’t belong in a STARTER ZONE.
Yes, you can argue that my approach isn’t the best. That I’m only adding to the “toxicity” that so many people have talked about so far. You prolly don’t even care that I agree with you on that front. shrugs So I would challenge you to tell me a better way. To tell me how just standing by and saying/doing nothing when I see a group of players, who are “just having fun”, flame down new or unaware players as if they are somehow entitled to behave that way. Behavior which is a regular occurrence in Queensdale.
Oh and if all you can come back with is a … “Well…. your behavior isn’t any better.” I’ll just respond to it early.
Pathetic.
Again another Pro-Queensdale Train player that is lumping the QD train with ALL trains just to further their own argument, so that those of us that are against it alone are instead seen as anti-train all together. Not the case, tyvm. I don’t log into Frostgorge Sound with a feeling of revulsion, like I do Queensdale. Or WvW K-trains. Or EotM. Or Cursed Shore.
I disagree with the perceived need to eliminate the trains. In fact I would like to see trains in every map. Queensdale is popular because it feels alive. The train is part of the reason for that. Instead of trying to make yet another dead zone, Anet should look at why Queensdale IS alive.
Firstly the issue here is not “all trains”, its the QD train. Please don’t lump them all together like they’re the same and use it like a shield to protect your argument. Secondly, and I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but none of the starter maps feel anything less than “alive” thanks to the megaserver system. I’m a regular map completer between all my alts and I can tell you that the other starter zones are enjoyable, mostly, because there are other players on them AND there is no QD train going on. Last I’d say our definitions for “alive” seem to be very different. I equate what you’re talking about to something more along the lines of the undead. Its moving, sure, buts its not alive.
Some of us work long hours. Its hard for us to get involved in any kind of guild or dungeon running. What we want to do is spend that hour or two having fun. We dont want a grind. We dont want to plug in to a second job. The train IS fun. Odd as it may seem one of my favorite parts of it is the pause waiting for boar. All kinds of silliness goes on there.
…. You “don’t want a grind”? … I have no words.
All those people disrupting the train on purpose… and enjoying it.
They do not want the train in the area, and feel it is detrimental to the server. So they do what they can to make zerg training in the area unappealing to as many players as possible. A player-driven solution to a player-driven problem.
So instead of simply putting the nail in the coffin, and getting it over with, you’re suggesting anet supports solutions that creates direct conflict between players resulting in a hostile community?
Don’t see where he/she was suggesting that.
It is now okay for someone to step in whenever someone feels someone is playing the game in a way they do not like, and do whatever they can to ruin their gaming experience for the simple reason that they don’t like the way their playing, and feel it doesn’t fit the vision of Gw2?
Its not okay. This thread is up because it isn’t okay. Your opinion is valid but it swings both ways on this issue.
I disagree with the concept of players in game policing others based on an interpretation they got from a dev post or video, that should be anet’s job, not some in game vigilante.
I’m only speaking for myself here – but when I feel the need to derail the QD train (whether I act on that feeling or otherwise) it isn’t because of a “dev post or video”, its my own interpretation that what I see happening is horribly wrong.
It should be Anet’s job, as its supposed to be, but Anet has failed to do its job here. Hence all this disagreement and hostility. Since ArenaNet hasn’t fully addressed the problem with the Queensdale train — the current response some of us have is as the above mentioned “player driven solution”. Its not ideal. Its not pretty. But without Anet stepping in on this issue there are two options left for us.
Continue on with what little we can do to impact it…
OR
…Resign ourselves to the notion that “It is what it is, its not going anywhere, and we should just get over it already.”
You can guess how I feel about the latter option.
I second this question.
Do players think that things like Commander tags can be “earned”? Who are you to declare what a good Commander is or isn’t?
Does this need to actually be explained to people? If you think a Commander stinks, then ignore him. Block him.
Goodness, but people have some really unrealistic expectations on the internets.
Is it truly unrealistic? Would adding some sort of achievement prerequisite on top the gold cost be such a bad thing? I don’t think so. Though it wouldn’t eliminate “bad commanders” altogether, one would hope it could filter them out a bit in some way.
Commander tags should NOT be buyable for many people that don’t even know what to do with it.
suggestions make 2 version of commander tag a pve and pvp one
split the price of the two to 50 gold each + a required thing to do
Problem is how can you police someone for using a tag “correctly” or not?
I agree with the idea of creating different kinds of tags in the future, though I would worry about the maps becoming flooded with a rainbow of tags — especially if we were to lower the price of tags as you suggest. If anything I’d say we should raise the cost of a tag, as 100g was intimidating at launch but just isn’t today in this market. Adding an achievement prerequisite is also a good idea on paper — but what would qualify someone as a good WvW, PvE, Guild commander?
Only someone that is pro at killing Teq and/or Triple Threat makes a good PvE commander?
Only someone that has killed 20,000 players in World vs. World is a good WvW commander?
I don’t believe so.

Applies a ghostly visual effect to the character for about five minutes, including a trailing cloud-like effect. – Guild Wars 2 Wiki
Unfortunately when you look at progression that is all there is to the future of the game until they take the time change it. I’m speaking of course of Ascended gear end game crafting.
Guild Wars 2 isn’t about crafting Ascended gear. What the hell do you think this is? World of Warcraft and its loot treadmill?
Guild Wars 2 is about exploring Tyria, engaging in fun open-air battles with foes across all level zones (I HATE the nerf mobs got, and if it’s a result of the changes to the trait system, then it’s more proof that said system needs to die), finding people to help and form spontaneous groups with, and wiping at world bosses until you learn how to fight them. And getting in costume brawls for the heck of it, and fighting to defend the places you care about from Ghost/Undead/Centaur/Inquest/What-Have-You incursions, and taking back reclaimed areas. And fighting for your server in WvW. And proving the might of your team’s kitten in sPvP.
Ascended gear is just an extra slapped onto everything else.
You are kidding. Guild Wars 2 might be new and exciting when you are starting out. But when you get to your 8th character to lv 80, there is nothing new and exciting to explore. It is just a massive grind for ascended or legendary.
Though I agree with you, lets please try to keep this thread on topic. The Queensdale champ train and its questionable existence.
Thank you.
Sadly there isn’t any need for people to worry about this issue just yet. Now whenever we may get a water loaded map in a content update or maybe even get to battle that dragon that is blocking Tyria off from Cantha, maybe then people will care. I daresay most people aren’t even thinking about their underwater gear and/or skills at all at this point.
Report it as a bug.
I’d say people who purposely kill champs “out of order” to get retribution on rude people are making the map even more toxic.
You’re not teaching anyone a lesson when you do that, the type of people who get upset over someone randomly killing a champ are already unreasonable people, you’re just going to make them more upset.
Lambent, I do agree that trolling for retribution’s sake is indeed adding toxicity to an already ugly atmosphere. I’ll also admit that I’m guilty of it. No, I’m not happy about it either. However if you use that same logic to anyone witnessing bullying, that they should just let it go because it may make them “more upset”, where would that lead?
I don’t see them as the same, Ideally, when one is responding to bullying, the only one who faces the repercussions for that is the person/people responsible for the bulling.
Trolling the entire champ train for the actions of some people would be the same as (in terms of an entire group of people paying for the actions of a few) someone flooding an entire football locker room as payback for the actions of a few of those players.
You make a good point. But from my experience I don’t hear enough from people in the train coming to the defense of players being victimized by other members in said train. It is far too easy to clump a group of people together as a “football team” or “train” if none are being brave enough to step out and do whats right. Outside of people responding to where the train is currently located, or where its going, the majority of chat coming out of QD train is hateful.
Because they don’t want anyone pushing towards making “tanks” and/or “healers”. Granted you could make the argument that its only your armor, that you are in fact traiting your attributes more aggressively to balance it out, but the likelihood of someone abusing it and pushing for pure bunker means that we will probably never see any gear set for Healing, Toughness, Vitality.
The danger is that new players coming into the game will end up with a shallow understanding of the game and thus share your opinion.
Without the crutch of a champ train leveling experience most players find out there is a lot more than just pressing 1 to the game. If that’s all they see then it’s possible, like you, to think that’s all there is.
+1
We should fear for the future of this game if that is acceptable to anyone.
Unfortunately when you look at progression that is all there is to the future of the game until they take the time change it. I’m speaking of course of Ascended gear end game crafting.
We’re not all so jaded and dispirited by the lack of new content that we can forget what it was like during launch, are we? I loved those days (yes, even with all the bugs) because it was a new game to me. I don’t know if I could say that if I were a new player starting in Queensdale today.
I would not wish a new player to experience this first thing into his/her new game. Is that so bad?
Suggestion – Fish up your thoughts about why it should be added and then come back.
Additional ingredients for cooking, maybe?
Unless you think it a better idea for us to gain access to fish ingredients by killing drakes, gutting them, and hoping to find not quite digested fish inside.

I do not see an argument against adding a ‘Non-salvageable’ note on Karma gear. Though its never been a problem for me personally, I do understand that it could be for others.
I’ve been victim to a similar lack of information on items before (ex. Ascended “unique” status meaning only one could be on a character).

I feel like they could do what they did to the Spider. Downgrade the champions to Elite. Over in Kessex Hills, upgrade a few to Champions. =)
This is a good idea. Remove champions from all 1-15 zones by replacing them with Elites. Just relocate the QD train to Kessex or the like. The train runners can have their mind numbing farm and the starter zones can be free of it.
Why make the 1-15 zones play any differently from the rest of the games, for example take a look at traits, you unlock them at 36 but wait some of them require you to do something many times higher in level.
Or you can pay cash and skill points?
Lucky the train bags drop skill scrolls and coin right?
I do not share your viewpoint on this. You make it sound like Queensdale is the standard for every other map in GW2, that it should be held as the example for new players. Starter zones should be areas for learning the basics of general PvE, gradually learning. Not – Champ Train 101 or bust!
I’d say people who purposely kill champs “out of order” to get retribution on rude people are making the map even more toxic.

My suggestion would be to add in some sort of death penalty back into the game. With the removal of repair costs I don’t think there is enough, especially in WvW. I died? Alright just let me insta-waypoint and run back. No big deal.
Why not add some sort of time delay after you die, where the dead person can’t waypoint for a short time? They could still be revived by allies, would even give friendly players that little extra time needed to get to the downed players location. I would appreciate it in both PvE and WvW.
I feel people would be smarter, more cautious in general about their gameplay this way. Its just a thought.

Since the MS update i’ve only been able to play less with the people i want to.
Welcome to Megaservers! Where guilds, communities, and home servers have no meaning and we decide who you get to play with. Come on down!
This message is brought to you by the Black Lion Trading Company and Currency Exchange
They can say whatever they want, but in reality, all their recent content have been zerg oriented.
It’s more accurate to say that all their recent (and temporary!) content is designed to not be roflstomped by zergs.
Untrue. Recent introducion of megaserver and changes to World Boss schedule were definitely zerg-promoting (and very permanent).
Agreed. With the introduction of megaservers AND world boss scheduling, I’d say Anet only wants people to zerg. Its why I have little faith that Queensdale will ever be a welcoming environment.
Tengu and Skritt are fugly tbh.
Largos, Chronomancers or Kodan I would be happy with.
I do believe it was said that Chronomancers would never be added to GW2. It was a dream for GW1: Utopia, not GW2.
I hate the toxic attitude people get in /map when the train is disrupted by someone that doesn’t know any better.
In fact, when I watch flame wars erupt because someone who knew no better disrupted the train, I usually go out of my way to disrupt the train as much as possible.
Here I thought I was the only one that felt this way.
Loathing. That’s what hits me whenever I need to travel through Queensdale these days, whether it be for map completion or some other goal. The noxious atmosphere around that “train” is admittedly bringing out the troll in me. I’ve never claimed to be one before, but I won’t deny that I have been of late – in Queensdale.
ArenaNet, I know you can’t stop trains. People will always find a way to make a speedy profit somewhere, somehow. However if it were truly your desire to clean up Queensdale and make it more welcoming to new players, I believe you could. NERF it into oblivion so they go to farm elsewhere. Sadly I’ve little faith that you will do this… The Queensdale train is not new to GW2 and you’ve decided to let it slide this long.
I agree with the OP, not that my opinion matters.
I don’t get why people are so obsessed with mounts: “Look, I’m sitting on something” yeah rivetting…
I’m with you. Perhaps they just get a kick out of seeing something between their legs?
They waypoint system is a beautiful thing that I think people take for granted, with it and speed boosts — WHY would you need a mount for anything other than a cosmetic reason? I don’t believe mounts have any place in this game. There are plenty of games that have them… go there.
Really? Folks are STILL upset about the Fractal reset?
#GetOverIt #NotABigDealPreview Blogpost
Players: We don’t like this upcoming change!
Whiteknights: Quit complaining until you see it. It might not be that bad!Patch day
P: We don’t like this new change!
WKs: Quit complaining, they know there’s stuff to work on. Give them a chance to work out the kinks!Months later
P: That change still sucks!
WKs: You’re still upset about that? Get over it! It’s too late to do anything about it now.
Sadly true…. but I thank you for making me laugh xD
But I really do need to make this point clear: the way the last two weeks have been handled from a PR standpoint is inexcusable. I’m not blaming you or anyone in particular b/c I don’t know who makes these sort of decisions in the company. So please get this feedback to whatever Anet/NCSoft big wig needs to hear it.
Ya’ll need a dedicated voice between devs and players. To drop something like the Megaserver and then leave us with zero response to feedback on it for two weeks looks really, really bad on you. “We’re very busy” isn’t an excuse. If you’re too busy and stretched too thin to handle basic PR functions, you hire new staff. Period.
I wish you all the luck with the Chinese release. And that’s the thing, guys; I love this game and I want to see it succeed. That’s why this whole fiasco got me and others so worked up: we care. And it feels like we were used as guinea pigs and then brushed aside. We don’t like feeling ignored, particularly not after you’ve thrown our communities into disarray.
Agree.
Though I still feel as if I’ve been “brushed aside”, and I can tell you that will not fly with me forever.
Eventually dyes prices will rise to a high level. Please keep in mind that dyes no longer drop out in the world anymore and that the market is currently flooded with an excess of dye because of the account-wide patch to the dye system.
It is still very much a market for buyers. There will be a day when players won’t believe that you could ever buy a dye for so little.
This is a horrible idea.
It’s more like a small group of customers going to the restaurant’s Facebook page and demanding that the waitstaff post recipes, share the planned menu changes for the next year, and make changes such as serving an entirely different kind of food (a classic Italian restaurant offering hot dogs and cheeseburgers, for example), then loudly and constantly complaining when they don’t get their way.
Not really.
Customers are having their service, as it has existed for a period measured in years, negatively affected and/or interrupted. Asking for the service to continue to be delivered in a manner consistent with its past delivery is not even close to your analogy. Even if there are people who fit your analogy the simple fact is that people who are merely asking for a continuation of service are not having their concerns addressed.
There’s a difference between constructive criticism and noise.
Unfortunately ANet does not seem to agree with you as they are treating both types of response in exactly the same manner.
I completely agree here.
If I treated my clients the way ArenaNet is treating its own, I’d be out of business.
So I have slowly been creating Twilight over the past wee while and now looking at the 1k gold pile that I need to raise to afford Dusk at its current Trade Post price im starting to feel like Gw2 is a grind, I know that the developers said that they wanted to make the game feel like it wasnt a grind but I think some of the recent changes and perhaps lack of change has made it into one of the most grindy games I have ever played. does anybody else think that the whole Idea of needing a precurser or puting so much focus on gold has made Gw2 into a grind? because all I seem to be doing when I play is earning gold by grinding different dungeon paths or doing pvp which is kind of a grind aswell to level… :L perhaps ii play wrong.
Or perhaps this type of game is not meant for you. Whenever you have a game that has “top tier”, “must have”, or “legendary” items — people are going to work for them. You’re choosing to do that.
It is YOUR CHOICE.
Just how much “health regen” do we get on this rune now? All I’ve been able to tell is that it scales by level and a tiny bit by healing power… But how much?
2. I loved the atmosphere on my home server that I chose, and that atmosphere is now gone. I went from a friendly, somewhat quiet server, to a map chat that is absolutely rampant with sexism, racism, homophobia, and further excessive trolling that is borderline insufferable. I realize that I can block and report these things, and I do. I am not complaining that people are behaving inappropriately; rather that the entire cultural environment in which I enjoyed playing the game has gone to waste
I agree.
There are so many more things that I dislike/hate about the megaserver update… but at this point I don’t think it matters if I post them. Many have already stated them and Anet hasn’t cared enough to respond to any of it.
My enjoyment for this game is deteriorating rapidly.
Though I guess next we’ll see World Boss Spawners in the Gem Shop, amirite? :P
I would lose all hope for ArenaNet and this game.
Bas, that’s what you get for looking at the sun too long. Tsk tsk.
