Since November 20121, I have been a roaming thief in WvW, and have gotten really good at it. I play multiple builds and am fairly successful at 2v1 and 3v1, even the occasional 4v1.

Now, back a while ago you reverted 4s revealed to 3s in wvw and that was smart because 4s is horrid. The timing on skills is so off and its too late to wait. I quit in the 2-3 months that the 4s was in wvw. I did not roam, and I missed it. As soon as you reverted it I was back, and have enjoyed it with a passion.

WvW roaming and SPVP is the only thing I do in GW2 so if you kitten with stealth in HoT, You are going to see a lot of hate from a lot of long time thief players, and I will leave your game again.

I do not want to leave as I enjoy this game but how can I play a game where I can not do what I love??

Ohh well, I started TF2 and having fun with spy so for now I am content but that will only substitute for so long.

pretty sure i could spend the full duration in the trap and not die to a medi guard as long as i have enough ini for a black powder or two, and maybe a shadowshot.

That is not a problem. 1v1 it is not an issue.

It is more the 2v1 and 3v1 and the chance that a zerg or roaming party stomps you.

I am sure you may still be able to 2v1 but we will see

If you have basic wvw infusions, you can only add Vitality to defense slots – armor and half the trinket spots. But if you have Omni, you can add to all. However, having armor and some of the trinkets [defense] with vitality and then condition damage on the rest will add a ton more. Overall, when you are fully kitted in ascended armor, weapons and trinkets, it makes a difference

I use Dire/Rabid ascended trinkets as well as Dire armor and weapons.

The condition gain, as well as the infusion slots more than adds benefit. Think of it like this, you lose a tiny bit of vitality to precision which is really annoying and I hate how there is no Dire/Dire stats. But, you gain a solid amount of condition damage, I think around 100 extra but I could be way off. But you do gain extra condition damage. You also gain extra toughness, and the vitality is a tiny bit less. Like a tiny bit. However, if you add vitality infusions to your ascended pieces, you can easily gain that back and some

There is so much hate for anet I have right now. I am not going to attack them because I can not afford any more infractions points but everyone knows what I am implying

Light’s Judgment trap is ridiculous. Why do thieves get such a hard counter to a WHOLE kitten TRAIT LINE. That is a 1 second reveal every second. If they lock us inside its going to be a disaster.

Tell me now, if I am stealth and run over it, do I get revealed or do I have to be out of stealth to trigger the revealed??

Either way, The only thing I do in this game is roam world vs world because I love it so much. It is fun and I like to 2v1 and 3v1 if I can because it feels good to outplay your opponents when the odds are against you.

Are you going to give us a skill that stops guardians form using their virtues?? Because that is what you are doing anet

The problem I have with this trap isn’t the trap per say but the fact anet is balancing based on whiny WvW players.
They are phasing out the Thief’s ability to roam in WvW but failing to give them the tools needed to do the other phases of the game.
I’m all for counterplay but at some point in time you need to give to the class you are indirectly nerfing.

It’s most likely we will get off-hand sword for HOT. I can’t to get my head around the fact that thieves are one of the squishes classes which would mean it would have to have a lot of evades or knockbacks’ just to survive. Any thoughts on how how a thief will survive with another horn cause I just don’t see it working…

Frankly I think that a rifle thief is a terrible idea. One of our most important abilities, steal, puts you right in melee. Unless of course the new specialization will change this mechanic, it will definitely do more harm in my opinion. Frankly I’d rather see a specialization that makes them more of a swashbuckler (Axe.. Or possibly O-h Sword) possibly trading full on BERSEKER for a more melee competent.. Tankish kind of thing. Because honestly it seems like 90-100% of the builds that are for thieves are for ripping your opponent apart. Granted main hand sword is kinda like that, but adding in a rifle may just completely hurt the purpose of a longbow ranger.

Thief specialization will be something like assassin so forget this “Rifle is not thief” or “steal” bull because it will be a different class in essence

Yes it is still around and is strong. I have run a variation of P/D since November 2012, along with my s/d and d/p sets.

Currently, full dire and 2-0-6-0-6 is what I use with perplexity runes and you want sigil of bursting

Everyone needs to calm down about Shadow’s Rejuvenation. The only change is that it gives 1 extra initiative every 3 seconds !! The healing, time interval and slot are still the same so what is all the fuss about??

Thieves have no blocks, invulnerable and very little damage mitigation. We rely on dodges and stealth.

We are MEANT to be slippery and attack from the shadows and dance around our opponents. All the complaints come from world vs world roaming, which is what the thieves excel at !! Every profession is good at something, that is what thief is good at. No one complains about it in Spvp, because hardly anyone runs it. No one complains in PvE and for zerging it is not a big problem. Everyone’s beef comes from Roaming.

learn to play and fight, and deal with the fact that that is what the thief is meant to excell at

Every other class, especially warrior and guardian got huge buffs. Thief did not actually get that many buffs

Long reach, a very undervalued yet a lovely trait that I have always taken with me when running P/D Dire condition thief, Because it is so useful.

I am very disappointed to see this go and I hope steal becomes either baseline 1200 range because 900 is really short and horrible or

Add Long range to the minor thief adept trait because stealing giving 2 initiative has always been very meh.

I would much rather the range increase on steal every time we trait into trickery because it makes sense

Remember, it is a Grandmaster Minor. Key Word being grandmaster

They split the traits up into minor and major for a reason, with the minor meaning to compliment almost all types of builds available in the line. It is in the grandmaster slot, which is its tier level. people are just complaining because it is always going to be there. Remember, with all the power creep from other classes, and the fact it only mitigates damage and not conditions means it is being far over valued. I like this trait in its place personally, and it is a very suitable exchange for hidden assassin.

Shadow’s Rejuvenation is fine and actually, how they have done it in heart of Thorns is actually what thief needs. So stop all the whining. Look at warriors healing signet, heals every second !! ALL the time. We only get it in stealth, and even less healing. Also, it provides people who like the shadow type of thief as opposed to dodging and acro thief style a way to be successful in WvW, especially roaming. Every class is good at something and I enjoy World vs World roaming a ton.

What needs to happen is it needs to trade places with Resilience of Shadows. RoS is way too OP as a minor trait and blind on stealth is useless as GM.

Then if we take that route, let’s say we move Resilience in Shadows as GM trait and merge Cloaked in Shadow with Shadow Protector or with Last Refuge, then put back Hidden Assassin as a GM minor trait instead of RoS.

No, I mean I love Cloaked in SHadow but it should actually be in the master line in my opinion, not in a minor slot, unless it takes place of blinding powder. Thieves are squishy and giving them Resilience of Shadows at minor grandmaster makes sense and gives thieves that extra sustain. I think everyone will come to realise we need it when the expansion comes out, although I would like access to cloaked in shadow somewhere. I would never take it over Shadow’s Rejuvenation or Shadow’s Embrace though

I guess that could work too, although I personally liked to have RoS as a minor GM trait.

Yeah I think Cloack in Shadow is a good GM trait, the problem here is Shadow Rejuvenation in the wrong spot. Anet pls remove this trait and move executioner again in the CS line and thief will be balanced

Shadow’s rejuvenation is my favorite thief trait and makes what I do and actually have fun with in Guild Wars 2 possible. Solo roaming Xv1s. Without shadow’s rejuvenation, so much sustain is gone and you can not survive in the 2v1s and 3v1s if the players are good.

Minor traits:
Blinding powder – sighh………. ………
This was the one time anet could have changed it, but not today. I feel like they can not admit to being wrong for 2 years so we are stuck with it

Meld with shadows – always loved it
Hidden assassin replaced by Resiliance of shadows: At first I was extremely annoyed because I loved that trait but new stat changes incoming so hopefully will not be too bad and it seems really good now. SO now we have stealth effects that you apply reduce incoming attack damage by 50%

Major Traits:

Adept:
merciful ambush – Never liked it and useless

Concealed defeat – Create a smoke screen when downed. Deception abilities recharge 20% faster. Now with Hide in Shadow’s being a deception it seems really strong, however, with Shadow’s Embrace in the same line, I and I do not think anyone else will take it over that

Shadow’s Embrace – all day, everyday !!

Master: Shadow Protector: Ehh

Descent of Shadows – Love it, Can now get stealth off steal and falling damage. If we trait mug, I hope that mug will trigger first but if it does not I will be taking the new needle trap.

Leeching Venoms – … … gay haha

Grandmaster:

Cloaked in Shadow- shame this skill is now in grandmaster, but I think I can make do with Blinding Powder

Shadow’ Rejuvenation:
Best, favourite, love, oh my, love it

This is my favourite skill in the game and it now regenerates my initiative.

Venemous Aura – I do not like it and never have but I can not judge.

Critical strikes – not going into it because I am lazy and do not care about this line

Deadly arts:
Minor: Serpent’s Touch
Stealing inflicts poison. Your attacks while downed inflict poison. I like it and always have used it because Poison is really strong
Lotus poison – same
Exposed weakness – same

Adept: Dagger Training – dagger damage is increased to poisoned foes
Mug – same, I am sure people will always use this
Needle trap – new trait – Trap: Set a trap that immobilizes and poisons foes when triggered
Applies immobilize, poison, 3 bleeding and 5 vulnerability
Drops when you use a healing skill. I personally love this trait and think it is awesome

Master:
Resourceful trapper:
Stealing reduces cooldown of currently recharging trapts by 10 seconds.
pft gay
Panic strike: now a master and this trait is good
Revealed training: – yeah… let’s just leave that there

Grandmaster
Potent Poison – Increased poison duration by 33% and icnreased damage by 50%. I personally love this and made consider taking it for my P/D build because it seems like great sustain, especially combined with needle trap.

Improvisation – again, another trait that I like.
You can use stolen items twice. One random category is immediately recharged when you steal.
If you trait to trickery and have a 17-18-21 1/2 second steal, you are going to be able to have a higher chance of recharging skills. Also with the new changes to stolen skills, removing the damage portions and changing them, this could be really strong. I am going to have to play test to decide between these for my P/D condition build.

Executioner – same trait but now in grandmaster for deadly arts

Ok, I think I was a bit kitten Arenanet at first . After looking at all the new traits and hearing that we will not have to rely on traitlines for stats so much anymore, I am loving some of the new traits.

Let’s decompose the updates:

Trickery
Ok so this line is looking really strong right now.

Lead Attacks: This now makes steal recharge 15% faster !! Welcome to even more steals. I personally love this as I use sleight of hand and am looking forward to around 17-18 second steals

Flaking strikes: now gives haste instead of 5% increase damage. Not sure what the stun break in this would be used for because you have to attack them in order to gain haste and it is also on a 60 second cooldown. Still better than before

Trickster: Loving the update, now acrobatics thieves, especially with withdraw have a little more access to removing conditions.

New trait – Pressure striking: I think this is a fantastic trait that applies 3 stacks of torment for 8 1/2 seconds for each interrupt, on no cool down.

Grand masters are the same, still love sleight of hand

Acrobatics:

New feline grace is still pretty good, especially when combined with other skills and boon increase

Endless stamina seems solid, improving dodging yet again

So now in adept we have Fleet shadow, vigorous recovery and pain response. ALl the same except for the vigor change.

Master:
New trait – Guarded initiation – Gain resistance when striking an enemy while your health is full. Seems very sub par. Useless unless you can open quickly and even then, very average.

New trait – Swindler’s Equilibrium, successfully evading an attack while wielding a sword recharges steal by a static Amount – seems legit, can not say enough about it yet because I have not delved into its potential combos yet

Hard to catch – FINALLY LOVE THIS SKILL YAYAYAYAYA
30 second cooldown, stunbreak and endurance refilled. I will take this trait as it is strong although I do not know how reliable it is. Have to try it out first.

Grandmaster:

QUick pockets – useless useless anc useless, why did they keep it
Acrobatics had useless grandmasters and still does

Assassin’s reward – still crap

New trait – Don’t stop – Periodically evade projectile attacks while under the effects of swiftness, 5 second cooldown. Do not know how I feel about this and do not know enough yet to see how it will work.

So, basically the only downside to this line is the grand masters, which are complete crap.

Acrobatics should have something like Flashing Bladesfrom guild wars 1 or shadow form from guild wars 1, that would be very very good.

Something like
Flashing Blades: 30% chance to successfully evade an attack – deal damage to the enemy you evaded.

yup Band reference. Back in 2012 when I created this I was heavily into them but not anymore as much as I progressed into Technical Death metal music more. Still am looking forward to their new album though, recording finished a few days ago !!

I wouldn’t say so.

Dodge inside of SR. Out of endurance? Switch to SB, and press #3 at the edge of the refuge (untarget enemy) for more evades (require some timing DOH as the evade frame is pretty low).

That is absurd. if you drop a refuge and just happen to, in a fight, have full endurace, you have 2 dodges base. Not everyone runs shortbow. Ok, so revenant drops field, you dodge twice, because you have to maintain 100% uptime otherwise BAM, you are out. Even if you manage to successfully dodge twice, the field pulses 4 times [4 seconds], which is a far longer time. Also, using shortbow 3 would most likely reveal you and or throw you out of refuge anyways.

Most likely thief with rifle because they showed engineer with a hammer. Why would they show an engineer with a rifle in a HoT trailer??

Also, thief has no land range 1200 weapon.

Hey guys, just need a quick question covered. What is the deal with reclaiming a deleted characters name. If I delete a character and want to re use the name on another character, Do I have like a window of time to re create a new character, like 24 hours. or do I actually have a penalty and not be able to use the name for a certain time?

After watching the revenant and how kitten cool it looks, I will be making one, I reakon we should get either offhand sword, focus or a staff, that has cool kitten like displacement and all that.

I totally forgot that one of the traitlines was getting removed with a specialsation, which means if it is indeed a rifle with a “sniper feel” would be pretty cool in ways but most likely SA would get removed.
Not saying I want that because I love SA line [last refuge exclusive], but I could see SA sniper thieves being a big pain but fun. Lets see what others think of that to

You guys are right we can’t get both mobility and burst on rifle. Longbow WOULD be a lot more cooler !! Holy kitten I have had a compelte change of heart. Long, 1200 solid range and mobility would be insane

The engineer can already use the rifle and it is speculated they are getting hammer. The Ranger is confirmed getting a Staff with the Druid Specialization. That leaves thief.

Secondly, this post is the most well thought-out and well-recieved weapon suggestion in the thief forums. If anet had any sense they would take it and make it their own because the OP not only went through the trouble of providing tooltips and math, but he also designed a few traits to go along with it. On top of all that it looks fun to use AND it gives thieves a long range option.

That auto attack on the idea you linked is a little underpowered to say the least (especially the cone thing, guard staff auto has a 0.6 multiplier on it for reference). That bullet to the knee is pretty weak as well(DancingDagger has a 0.5 multiplier on it, so the only benefit from this is the longer cripple). If a lot of our damage doesn’t come from a decent auto, we’re gonna end up with another P/P unload initiative sink. I think we should have the option to have decent damage at long range, but get more powerful as we get closer as opposed to mesmers and rangers. Damage is really low on that overall.

I once stated I thought your idea was complete ludicrous because it was the opposite of what it should do. Seriously, hit your foe with the butt of your rifle, your a thief who is slippery and going to be at a distance!! If they get near you switch to daggers or something I still think that. However………

Some of your skills game me ideas for my set

All 1200 range
Skill 1: Sniper Shot – 1/2 second cast
Shoot a bullet that deal more damage the further away you are Inflicts one stack of vulnerability.
Skill 2: Shadows Retreat – 3 Initiative –
Shadow step away from your foe and blast them with a crippling shot
Skill 3: Furious Shot – 4 Initiative – ½ cast
Fire a piercing shot that grants fury for 5 seconds.
Skill 4: Shot from Shadows – 5 initiative – ½ cast
Stun you foe with a powerful shot – stun duration 1 second
Skill 5: Meld with Shadows – 6 initiative
Gain an active camouflage for 3 seconds that is broken when movement occurs. Gain 2 stacks of might for 5 seconds. Your next attack deals +20% damage.
Skill 6: Stealth Skill – 1-2 second channel
- Headshot – 1500 range
Fire a brutal shot that deals high damage. Also dazes your foe for 2 seconds.

That is my old set. If I changed it up a bit, added some shadow steps and similar, it could become the powerful long range weapon as well as have molbility and some combo fields.

for rifle to have mobility it needs to be done in the shadows, not evading becuase you can’t evade with a kitten rifle

New thief skill type - Stances

After posting an idea for the new specializations, one of the comments talked about adding stances, and I thought it was a fantastic idea.

Stances were an skill type that has no activation time and benefits the user. Each character can only have one stance in effect at a time. A small number of stances also have a detrimental effect, e.g. Frenzy also causes one to take double damage. This is the Guild Wars 1 skill type.

What would be cool is to see thieves have their new skills be stances.

A few of the original ones from Gw1 were Flashing Blades, dark escape and deadly paradox and way of the assassin.

Some new utilities or Elites could be

Flashing Blades – Elite Stances Skill
X seconds, 75% chance to evade attacks. Whenever you successfully evade an attack, your attacker takes X damage.
Or – pulsing Aegis every second for the duration (10-15 seconds?) and enemies that are blocked take damage. [Quoted from Auesis.7301]
Or – Every autoattack for 10 – 15 seconds creatres a blind radius of 300. Whenever an ememy misses or you successfully evade an attack, they take z damage

Next up is Dark Escape.
Healing skill – Stance
Gain Super speed, take half damage and channel heal for ‘Z’ seconds. Maybe make it able to break stun and be the first heal to do that would be pretty unique.

Deadly Paradox [also quoted from Auesis.7031]
If the new specialsation causes initiative to be removed, then this would act like
Stance – (5…13…15 seconds.) Your Assassin skills activate and recharge 33% faster.
If initiative is here to stay then
Stance – your Initiative regeneration is increased by 33% and your skills activate 33% faster
Disables Autoattack for a period

Unseen Fury
Stance – Inflicts blindness on all adjacent foes for ‘x’ seconds. Your attacks are unblockable on blind foe

And Last but not least, Shadow Form

This would have to be the new ‘Steal’ Or an elite, but would need some toning down as it is too OP currently but the main idea is

Stance – X seconds: Enemy Spells can not target you. Evade all attacks. You may still attack. Also breaks stun.

The more toned down version is
Stance – X seconds: Enemy Spells can not target you. You may still attack. Also breaks stun. When this stance ends, lose all but 1000 health or something

I feel like parry’s are cool but are very unthief-like unless made in quick succession. A thief isn’t going to stand there waiting to block for 1.5 – 2 seconds. Instead, the “flashing Blades” skill is much better as you are parrying while getting ready for counter attack and it is in activation from the moment you start blocking.

Along with this, new Skills for thieves called stances could become a thing

Stances sound like an epic addition to Thieves. I love Dark escape being a stance but if stances did become a thing, it would be awesome if the healing skill was Dark escape.

Could be, Gain 55% movement speed increase and channel healing for ‘Z’ seconds. Take half damage

Just speculating some Ideas. Maybe something to do with the assassin from gw1 and bringing back the old defensive, evasive, damage repelling kind of playstyle.

The first idea I have is Shadow Form, also a gw1 assassin skill, which could be a new Guild Wars 2 thief elite
X seconds: Enemy Spells can not target you. Evade all attacks. You may still attack. Also breaks stun. This would be a great way to start gearing towards the evasion builds and would really bring out some unique thief gameplay.
The second Flashing Blades: Elite or utility
X seconds, 75% chance to evade attacks. Whenever you successfully evade an attack, your attacker takes X damage

Just some Ideas of what could happen.

I’m betting on a specialisation into assassin and then getting a rifle [hopefully] as that would be really well done and fit so perfectly with the profession. As for the new mechanic I only had that ideas.

Auto Attack: increasing in damage the closer you get (in contrast to Rangers And Mesmers who get a damage boost the farther you get away, more like Necro lifeblast)

You are a thief and you wanna get close with a long range weapon. Dude it doesn’t fit. Enough of this CC at close range instead make he rifle a glass burst and long range control weapon, that punishes single targets from a long distance and stuns and dazes them from a distance.

It fits perfectly lol, and adds a support role to the thief as they can stay outside of close combat and avoid being nuked while picking off targets.

But it does have long range cc and punishes people for getting closer. Also the gap closer and stealth attack has a. 1.5 multiplier, making them equivalent to a midrange heatseeker. I doubt we’d get a weapon that let us burst and stay at range. The strong autos would make up for that, allowing you to save initiative for the other skills on the weaponset.

Why would you want a gap closer on a RANGED weapon. I
m sorry but that is idiotic. Can you imagine Sword – Dagger thieves 2 skill teleporting them away?? That is the same thing mate.

And why can’t we have burst at range? Because whiners say so? Rangers can burst at range and thieves are meant to be strong at burst.

Giving them a really strong single target damage weapon to control and take out targets fits perfectly into it

Something like this ?

All 1200 range
Skill 1: Sniper Shot – 1/2 second cast
Shoot a bullet that deal more damage the further away you are Inflicts one stack of vulnerability.
Skill 2: Shadows Retreat – 3 Initiative –
Shadow step away from your foe and blast them with a crippling shot
Skill 3: Furious Shot – 4 Initiative – ½ cast
Fire a piercing shot that grants fury for 5 seconds.
Skill 4: Shot from Shadows – 5 initiative – ½ cast
Stun you foe with a powerful shot – stun duration 1 second
Skill 5: Meld with Shadows – 6 initiative
Gain an active camouflage for 3 seconds that is broken when movement occurs. Gain 2 stacks of might for 5 seconds. Your next attack deals +20% damage.
Skill 6: Stealth Skill – 1-2 second channel
- Headshot – 1500 range

The new blinding powder sucks. Revert it back because now if we autoattack with say pistols and hit blinding powder we get revealed and its like last refuge 2.0

If you put Last refuge as a sub forum under Archive, it would be Possible because there are THAT many kittening posts about it.

With the direction Guild Wars 2 is heading, I must say I have been off it for the last 5ish months. All I did was roam wvw as a thief and I loved it to bits, until they nerfed thief that one too many times and now its just not as fun anymore. I miss the days I could solo 2v1 or even 3v1 with many weaponsets. Now its far harder and the sets are so nerfed that sometimes downright impossisble, especially against certain profession combos. Granted it was hard and required skill, but it was doable. And here come the list of whiners…

Anyways, that’s not what this thread is about. This is about the cancelled Guild Wars campaign titled GW Utopia.

How many of you, given where Gw2 is heading would like to see that released. You know finally finished [the way the original dev team would have] and playable.

I have been back playing some Gw1 lately and i miss it dearly. It was a true masterpiece

Edit: to all people thinking I wanted Utopia implemented into Gw2, you’re wrong. I would like it released back into the Gw1 game

Just an idea I need to write down and expand on later and to see what everyone thinks before it is taken further :P

-A new weapon that really captures the core of our profession. One that bypasses downed state. If ya use this weaponset to drain all your opponents health they are killed without entering downed state.

Thinking something like Hidden Blades as new weapons
