OP, how do you go about cleansing conditions from you?
The OP would probably want to take Cleansing Fire as it will also apply more burns to match the theme of this build.
Edit: I would also look into taking Evasive Arcana. You can use cleansing wave, blast your fire field and Flame Burst is nice burn application as well.
(edited by Bandit.8279)
The new shout elite maybe better for an all in glass build like this (once they changes the effect to you do not die on the next hit but heal if it was going to kill you).
Final shielding i think would be better for the master line and maybe for one of your utility.
I am playing with an high healing support tempest build that dose “ok” condition dmg it may have some use for ppl who like burning.
I agree that the new elite shout might actually be useful to take now but if I was looking to create a pure damage build I would still prefer the FGS which it looked like the OP was aiming for. The Elite Shout would better fit a support role.
I used Settler and Apothecary set-ups for my Tempest support builds in BWE2 and saw the better potential in them over a tanky Dire set-up. Because the Tempest seems to be pushed into the mid-range support role I found playing Tempest w/out healing power and w/out Aura Sharing to feel out of place.
Being able to throw magnetic aura on those around me with all the projectiles being tossed around out in VB was pretty satisfying. Not to mention aoe heals and the ability to just about instantly refill my health. Some of those events out there got pretty rough as players were experiencing them for the first time on builds they were not used too and going support on Tempest was a great feeling.
That being said one has to be able to kill things and the condi damage I was able to obtain through stacking burns was lovely for a support build.
Oh, don’t forget about Gale Song! There is a lot of CC being thrown out in VB from the enemies I faced and having that trait was rather handy.
(edited by Bandit.8279)
Don’t forget your elite and the FGS! It adds a ton of condi damage when equipped, that #2 is lovely for stacking burns and using the fire overload while having FGS equipped is divine.
I still prefer D/D with Earth spec for open world burn builds but the one you posted has potential. We still don’t know exactly how the tempest will end up as it’s still in the iteration process but in a little over a month we shall see:D
I would love to see a trait that grants (2) might stacks on signet use. Would make running signets in my condi builds so much more rewarding!
D/D Open World PvE Sinister Burn Build.
Been playing ele for a while now and created this condi build last week for a change of pace. It is perfect for open world PvE and can do pretty good in many dungeon situations as well depending on group composition and party skill (pugging with this might not be wise! lol)
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vFAQJAoYhcMouh9NwsB8RMIAYRAIUeAmYwOoIUbymYaA-e (I actually switched to Runes of Balthazar yesterday and love it.)
I use Sinister gear for everything. Sigils is up to you but I run corruption and smoldering but if you use condi food to lengthen your fire/bleeds than smoldering is not needed for a sigil.
I love this build because it plays different to my other builds and I can spam those Signets with no down side. Sig of Air is your stun breaker and Sig of Earth for pinning your foe.
You pretty much camp fire and most things will die so quickly you don’t need to swap attunements. For longer fights I start going through a more normal might stacking D/D rotation but instead of camping Air I stay in Earth longer until my Fire CD’s are ready. Remember this has Evasive Arcana so while in fire/combat I like to roll towards the enemy for more fire stacks:-)
I haven’t tried it yet but I use the Aristocracy runes from CM on my condi engi and love them. So if you like to use a more traditional D/D might stacking rotation then these runes would be great for that.
For larger meta events or group play you can change out a signet for Ice Bow (which is good to have in any situation anyways), put in a defensive utility if needed and use the Elite Elemental if you need the Earth or Water elemental. Glyph of Storms can work well too with Firestorm. For dungeons you might want to use focus for it’s defense.
I took this out into the Silverwastes and melting everything so quickly was very rewarding! Even soloing those pesky veterans;-)

Scepter isn’t weak as some people make it to be. It has really good support ability in the fire attunement with rapid procing blast finisher and decent condition damage which works well in the dungeon and low level fractals. However, Scepter has the worst sustainable damage out of the 3 weapon and many people fail to see that. I’m basing this assumption on the many PvE scepter condition builds I seen which often use utility that offer no sustainability. Anyways, dagger/focus is often the better choice for condition builds since fire skill 1 to 4 has a very high hit rate which makes it easy to proc, stack, and sustain burning.
Scepter is so bad in PvE, that peoiple use it to stack might before a pull and shortly before initiating combat, they switch weapons.
Scepter has always been kitten by terrible autoattacks, gutting its sustained DPS, and the huge delay on their lack luster skills like Dragon’s Tooth and Water 2. Dragon’s Tooth at first looks powerful, and then you realize that it’s a delayed Lava Font tick. In fact Lava Font over its duration does far more damage and serves as a permanent fire field.
This is why I state that it has its use in low level fractals which pretty much mean it won’t work in high level fractals where being flexible with utility slot and sustain dps is important.
I run S/F fresh air in PvE content a lot and still find it a lot of fun and rewarding. For more difficult group content I tend to stick with staff for it’s group utility but I find S/F a great change of pace.
S/F I find is great for maintaining might for your party if you need a might stacker. Running CM will reward you for having all those reflects. Running around in lvl 80 open world content and none of my other ele builds can obliterate a single target as fast as my S/F can. One does have to carry Glyph of Storms and Ice Bow though for much needed AOE.
If your good at attunement swapping and can pick up on the might stacking and landing your Dragon’s Tooth then I find a S/F ele can do very well in certain group compositions.

Hiya Ice Tea,
I help run a small casual guild on Tarnished Coast called Fools N Gold. We are focused on evening activities NA timezone and some of us are in PST as well. If you enjoy using a VOIP and can jump on our Mumble server from time to time then I think you will find that even our small guild can be highly social.
We are PvE focused but also do some WvW/PvP sometimes too. We do not have any RP players though.
I’m not sure if we have anyone with the same interests you listed. I do hear some Anime talk every once in a while though. So this you would have to find out on your own!

Greatswords on the Warrior and Guardian are a lot of fun. Going with axes on the Warrior and eviscerating all the things is a ton of fun as well.
Pro Tip: When you start playing melee with your ranger playing brother teach him not to spam Longbow 4 or you will be chasing everything across the map to kill it:/ lol
Better keep new content focused on multiplayer, it is not a single player game after all.
GW1 was pretty much a solo game.
GW1 was not an MMO. A fact many people forget when they bring it up. Not only that but the hero system and having everything instanced outside of public cities encouraged solo play.
As others have pointed out the LS2 achievements is great for solo play. From my experience in BWE1 & 2 the Adventures will fill this void and we can probably assume LS3 achievements as well. I also found running around VB by myself on a glass Daredevil and slightly drunk to be a risky affair;-)
I think the article was both good and bad. On the one hand the author was right in that the communication between devs and players in some areas is poor but to write a balanced article the author totally missed the fact that the devs do a good job responding in some areas like story not to mention Gaile Gray does an excellent job on the forums.
Been playing online games for many a year now and even though ANet is not perfect they are much better than any of my previous games in my experience. I also love the fact that we actually see them in the game from time to time as well. Or the fact that they join WvW guilds during tournaments.
So I feel there is an element of truth in this article but it was poorly constructed imho. A better article would’ve pointed out the bad and good and if they had the word space to compare and contrast with other online gaming companies as well.
I have yet to see a good side to their communication, such as it is. We can’t even get an answer out of them on why karma boosters were stripped out of the multiboosters we own, with no warning. That issue, along with many others, is still being ignored as far as I know.
Plenty of responses to fluff posts though.
The worst thing a gaming company can do is to give a fix or reason why on something and later change their minds on it. Almost everything is always in iteration until it gets the seal of approval. At which point we are then informed. It is always better to say nothing than to say something your going to later regret.
The article was also pretty biased and sounded like a writer who got denied the chance at regular interaction with ANet and decided to take his frustrations out with this article. Oh wait…

30 minutes and noda:/
Will you guys play tempest if it doesn’t offer an offensive setup on pair with existing choices?
Of course, but as Wolfric pointed out, the healing/support needs to be better than our current options.
I really enjoyed the role of a support Auramancer and my experiences with it in VB during BWE2 were pretty fun. It just needs some more dev love as I think it’s still pretty rough around the edges.
Hey Spudfuzz,
I help run a small guild called Fools N Gold [FNG] on TC and we are a PvE focused guild with a little WvW/PvP on the side. We have about 15- 20 active members and evenings (NA timezone) is our prime time for group activities.
We are an Adult-Casual guild and don’t get offended very easily. Our primary focus is on Fractals/Dungeons in the evenings. We occasionally do Jumping puzzles, PvP, WvW or just have water balloon fights if the mood suites us;-)
We do a lot of socializing on our Mumble server and if you want to get the most out of our guild that’s the place to be when you feel sociable but it’s by no means mandatory.
Here is a link to our guild info here in these forums. Good luck in your search and happy hunting!

The Legendary Wyvern using it’s wings (Harald style) to blow players back. That was way cool. Just buff the defiance bar on him ANet! The smaller wyverns flying and coating the ground in fire was pretty neat too. Finally starting to feel like a game about dragons!
I don’t try to log into my revenant, but I have tried to jump off a cliff and use my glider after the beta was over. That didn’t go so well for me.
This 100x
Even though I do miss playing my Tempest even with all it’s faults:/
Thanatos is spot on^^ We need more difficulty in this game not less. With a couple of small exceptions I felt BWE2 mob difficulty was pretty spot on. Get your Malaria pills ready because we are going to the big bad jungle baby!
As I stated in my first post I had good success with Toughness and Healing Power in Verdant Brink. I also put in good condi damage so that I could actually kills things as well. I used Settler and Apothecary set-ups.
My Tempest would camp fire for dps and switch to water and earth for support. I found it a lot of fun and I was able to make mistakes and survive them in almost all situations unlike my glass daredevil.
So I disagree with the OP and have had totally different experiences.
Despite some people always asking for harder content and cheer when they are one-shotted, if the content is too hard or frustrating to play the zone will ultimately become deserted by the majority of players.
I heard this exact same line when the Silverwastes went live. Look at it now. Players will adapt and learn. Those that can’t still have their afk spam 1 world boss tours.
Can’t say I ever had that problem in Silverwastes, aside from maybe some of the underground champs. (And quicksand. Stupid achievement. :P)
Southsun, though. Yeah, there’s a reason no one goes there anymore.
The reason no one goes to Southsun is not due to difficulty alone. It’s all about risk vs reward. There is nothing worth doing in Southsun other then KQ and some karka farming. If there was more of a reason to be there like the Silverwastes then it would be more populated. Reflects and boon removals along with blinds and timely dodging negate most of the hardships there.
Also, Silverwastes upon it’s initial release was a much different animal than it is now. In that first month the Breach would fail regularly and when the VW was released it was almost a 50% success rate for some time. Even then players would still populate the maps. Many either enjoyed the challenge and/or wanted the skins and coin that came from it.
The power creep with the conditions and specializations patch have made most of the fights rather trivial out there now not to mention players adapted to it’s environment by perfecting their builds and learning the mobs mechanics.

If your in zerker gear, you will get 1 shot by a lot of things. That’s expected. If you have high toughness/vitality, you won’t be. The different between getting 1 shot and 2 shot is huge, because one allows ‘mistakes’ and one doesn’t.
If its dumbed down again, we are going to repeat history and thats going to look really, really bad for the next expansion. Hell, if that happens again there might not even be a next expansion.
No. In major events, Defenses DO NOT matter. You will down in the same amount of shots as zerker, no matter your defenses. Thus, defenses DO NOT matter, so just go zerker.
If you make damage too high that defenses don’t matter, defenses are useless so go full damage. If you make damage too low, defenses are useless, go damage.
As said before, stacking defense should be there to allow mistakes to happen and to learn. If you still can’t grasp fights, then stay in the gear, that’s fine, I’m all for that. But if the mob is going to two shot you anyway in defense gear, what’s the point?
Yes, in the learning process, I do get one shotted against normal mobs at times at this stage because I don’t know the tells exactly. But once I do, then I’m not going to die and I can kill fast. Its like the karkas. Dodge the initial shots, you’ll be fine.
I agree with going defense until I learn. Once I learn, go zerk.
I have had a totally different experience. I ran several different builds over the course of BWE1 and BWE2. With full glass I paid with a mistake with my life. In tougher set-ups I was able to brush it off and hopefully not repeat that mistake.
As others have said learning mob mechanics is key. Know when to pull out maybe even sometimes run. Most of the time it just comes down to mitigating damage and making your dodges. You can survive a mistake or two on a tougher build.
Also note that Elites and Champs are not meant to be solo’d. Sure the Elite Spider is doable and some builds that players have mastered will do better than others in certain solo situations but for the most part you’re just asking for pain.
The hardest event and the only one that downed my tough Tempest build on her 2nd go around was the one up north in BWE2 in the dead tree where we had to plant the bombs. The constant pressure of the torment spam along with the Champs OP barrage was rather difficult to deal with at times even though I think with practice I could do better there. It’s the poor zerkers I felt sorry for. lol
I found the sweet spot for my Tempest was with a healing support/condi build that made good use of aura sharing. Not only could she literally burn through most mobs with her burning but she could instantly refill her health pool and help those around her.
One tough cookie was the Elite Shadowdancer (the one that shoots a volley). I ran towards one and took a full spread volley to da face. Even on this tough Tempest build the 4X 5k hits was an insta down. When I saw this guy again there was about 5 of us running towards it and I gave everyone a magnetic aura. The Shadowdancer lost most of it’s health in just a few seconds! Best feel good moment of my weekend:D
My 4 Norn Ladies from top to bottom:
- Fara the Sin build and future Tempest
- Rist the Fresh Air build and Pirate
- Rora the PvP/WvW roamer D/D specialist
- Belisama the Fractal Staff Specialist in two different looks
(edited by Bandit.8279)
Sounds like you might be interested in something like this for a D/D build that can take a hit: http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Elementalist_-_Dagger/Dagger
There is also a good D/D Roaming build on that site as well that you should look at. These builds are not Meta for PvE but they can make learning how to play D/D a less painful experience for you then later on you can make the move to full beserker stats when you feel confident enough to do so.
As a staff ele the best PvE build is again on that website and full zerker is the way to go. If you have a hard time with survival you can use Knights stats until you feel like you can make the move to full berserk.
While leveling I always recommend to new players to focus your stats on Power and Vitality/Toughness. That way you can kill things and take a hit when a mistake is made.
Good luck and have fun!

We have had a couple of great additions over the last 2 weeks who look to be a perfect fit for us. If you like hanging out and socializing in Mumble while doing Fractals, Dungeons, jumping puzzles, Silverwaste runs or the odd late night half-asleep PvP matches then come try us out.
We have also had a small group start creating new characters in preparation for HoT that play off and on throughout the day. So new players are always welcomed. We have friendly experienced players, food, bags and guild benefits to help those just starting out.

I’m not feeling it, I kept getting downed by humanoid Mordrem in the intro PS, there was this cave with killer mushrooms that kept making me their plaything, the only places I seemed to do well in were the Amber Fort PS instance, and the Faren chain with eventual Wyrven fight. I’m wondering if it was the gear they gave me Celestial, or the utilities which were wells instead of the shouts.
This sucks because I really wanted to like this as it seemed like a throw back to WoWs Deathknight when it was new.
Sounds like you were playing it wrong. Throw away all that celestial gear. Put on full zerker gear with strength runes. Replace shouts with stronger utilities. The elite shout is cool though. Take some time to learn what each skill does for GS and in RS.
Now you go and mow everything down. You can block projectiles. Blind. Fear. Have access to stab. Not to mention the strengths of Reaper which are chill, self-might stacking and vulnerability application.
Reaper was by far the most OP PvE Elite Spec I have tried so far.
Just pvp , and yes I should have gone with condi and healing power but it is not entierly my playstyle. Nevertheless I’m not super stoked about tempest..yet!
We should get some feedback soon on what changes they have planned for Tempest so cross your fingers for good news:)
Staff can make a good support ele as we have seen in WvW but a Tempest can make a good support that not only has good condi dmg but the Aura sharing can be a game changer on top of it.
A Tempest can stack burning very quickly, has access to water fields, aoe regen and has better access to aura’s than our previous aura builds.
I’m not saying Tempest is ready yet because it’s not. I have already listed changes I would like to see in other threads but I do think it has the potential to fit a support/condi/aura role rather well.
Was your testing in PvE or PvP or both? I found Tempest to work better with healing power and condi damage with aura sharing. If your trying to do the same things traditional ele builds can your doing it wrong.
This topic is the exact antithesis to constructive criticism.
not three words
stay on topic
I think it’s a good mix of support/condi. Been testing it with Settler and Apothecary gear and it looks promising.
I know from experience that high toughness doesn’t do much of anything in the new map. You can still get one shot with 3300 armor.
Running full zerk and by yourself will be tough as it should be. We need to take a bite out of the zerker meta and this is a step in the right direction.
No, it won’t. People will learn the animations and as usual will time everyone will be back to running zerker.
In fact my reaper in full zerker took on the entire frog village of full veteran frogs by himself.
The only time I was in danger of death was with 3 veteran frogs. Well of suffering+well of corruption+signet of power, fully offensive traitlines and gear just melted the frogs.
My berk revenant can probably do the same.
I found my glass Reaper to be OP and overly easy to play in pve. Everything just melted and that extra life bar is the ultimate oh-kitten button. My glass Daredevil was a different experience in melee and the learning curve to the newest profession in the Revenant gets a lot of players killed as I’ve witnessed first hand.
Sure, some of us will be able to run zerker comfortably eventually but I think it will thin the zerker herd a bit.
Support condi aura’s
I’ve had a lot more fun then I ever expected playing Tempest in PvE this weekend. It seems to favor condi/support builds rather well and running Settler’s/Apothecary Aura sharing builds seemed to hit the sweet spot for me as I was able to heal and add to the fight with good condi damage. Plus, magnetic auras are a life saver vs all the projectiles out in Verdant Brink.
Things I would like to see changed:
- Attunement swap while overloading.
- Stability on Earth overload at the very least.
- Get rid of the channel on Air overload.
- Magnetic Aura and blast at the beginning of Earth overload
(edited by Bandit.8279)
It would be nice to have more interesting things to do. If you only have a bunch of generic frogs with boring mechanics around then collectinig airship parts while having to use some masteries is definitelly more fun than just killing a big frog for 5 minutes. So there definitelly are cool ideas from ANet
I agree with you on the airship collection event. It takes too long to fill the quota. It needs to be shortened some and having the event finish faster will solve it’s main problem.
I found the Bullfrogs fun to fight. Condi damage is the way to go against their natural toughness. And the use of masteries are used there to get back and forth quickly.
- Hammer frog champion thing. Not so difficult if you see it coming, but it was a bull- intro when “That is a big frog,” then wham, half the adventuring party is down without warning. It grates me because it’s ANet’s OHKO fetish again, but it’s avoidable with a simple dodge roll.
- The spinning Diarmid needs to have something done about her attack. It goes on too long to be properly avoided, and she chases someone until they die. Recommendations: Don’t chase, but do a wide-path nautilus; shorter spin duration (3 sec?); much slower chase speed. Any one of those would bring her from overpowered to just right.
- As mentioned above, shadowscales should be “ignore damage/conditions” while in mist, so push/pull can still be used.
I concur with you that the Smokescale animations are a bit off and when they focus on an NPC or structure they can’t be kited away but other than that they are fine imho. Like the thrashers using life siphon in the SW people need to learn mob mechanics. I still see people fighting the smokescale in their red circles and wondering why they can’t hit it.
I found the Hammer Frog Champion pretty fun. It’s ok to have some champs that will be extremely difficult for zerkers to melee. Just range. I was running a pretty tough build and had a lot of fun in melee against him.
The Spinning Diarmid got me the first time. I only dodged once when it went spin-to-win mode. The 2nd time I dodged twice away from him and survived just fine. Can even use movement/blocks if needed.
We have to remember players are using new builds against new mob mechanics and some refuse to give up on their zerker builds no matter how many times they die. You truly have to have the skill and mob knowledge to pull off a zerker build out here and that’s how it should be.
So my advice is to take it slow and safe at first. Go ranged when needed. Use builds with more survivability. Learn mob mechanics and learn how to operate all these new builds.
I know from experience that high toughness doesn’t do much of anything in the new map. You can still get one shot with 3300 armor.
Not from veterans and below you can’t. Been running a combination of Settler’s/Apothecary gear on my Tempest for support/condi and have had no such issues.
If you miss a dodge/block on a champ or maybe even an elite then yea, your going to get hammered hard and deservedly so. Those you shouldn’t be able to solo and there should be people around to pick you up so you can work on your timing and make the next dodge/block.
Running full zerk and by yourself will be tough as it should be. We need to take a bite out of the zerker meta and this is a step in the right direction.
And by boring I mean boooooooring. The only thing you do is killing more mobs – capture, defend, waves and repeat… BWE1 events were little more interesting yet I was expecting something better from HoT =/
You obviously didn’t do the Faren event chain. The dialogue alone is pretty entertaining not to mention listening to and talking tot he NPC’s during and after the event chain. If you found that event chain boring then there is no hope for you.
To be honest I hadn’t noticed them be markedly easier, but it’s hard to judge; I was playing Reaper for the first time and having so much fun cleaving down all those elite bosses and feeling godlike, so maybe I’m not in a great position to make good comparisons lol XD
Reaper is op in PvE is my feeling. Running a straight up glass cannon build with strength runes and the Reaper destroys everything.
When I tried a glass Daredevil I came back to earth. Partly due to learning the profession and the new mob abilities. But those veteran thief frogs hit pretty hard and if I slip up or there are two of them they can be very challenging.
I do agree with the OP that the champ with the greatsword was unimpressive but I did find the other mobs to be well balanced so far. Still need to see more and the weekend is young!
Wait, so staff is disappointing? (Havent gotten home to try yet:()
Staff is fun! But it looks like other weapon combo’s can benefit nicely from the Daredevil spec.
Had no problems with the bounding damage dodge and I haven’t tried the others yet. Staff skill #2 does seem to fire twice sometimes which has thrown me off of ledges but that might be user error. More testing needed.
1. Delete Tempest
2. Roll Daredevil
3. Test out the Herald and Rev changes
4. Play around with Chrono some more
5. Slaughter all things with Reaper while singing along to The Monster Mash
6. Being happy and content with Chrono I will replace it with Warrior and test
7. Test all these things on the new mobs and hoping the events actually work this time
8. Utterly destroy and dismember all Smokescale to avenge my earlier noob deaths
9. Shed a tear that the latest DH changes didn’t make it into this BWE2
10. Give feedback
(edited by Bandit.8279)
Get ready to grind some masteries before you enter the raids. Doesn’t sound like content gating at all, does it.
Took me only a couple of hours through normal varied game play to get my gliding unlocked. After BWE1 I had made significant headway into Gliding, Mushroom and Itzel Lore.
The fact that masteries can be completed doing what you want to do in-game made it feel like anything but grindy.
