As others have stated armor looks is very subjective. I really like the Norn female cultural sets for instance.
While leveling it can be hard to find sexy armor but you can always grab an outfit from the gem store that can fit the bill until you get to level 80 where better armor options open up. Check out your cultural sets as there are some good ones out there.
I run with a pretty small (10-15 active members) tight-knit group of gamers in a laid back casual environment on Tarnished Coast (NA).
We spend most of our time in PvE even though we do sneak into sPvP & WvW from time to time;-) We are a social group and many of us hang out in our mumble server. We are a small group though so weekdays can be slow as most of us work but weekends (especially Saturday and Sunday evenings) we play late into the night.
So if your looking for a small social group filled with new and active helpful players that focus on fun over meta and where real friendships can be made then come give us a shot!
Feel free to pm or mail me in-game as well. Happy hunting!

It’s been awhile but pretty sure you just back track. There are chains to pull to open gates for you. Once you get back to where you entered there is a gate where you can leave through and puts you where a vista can be found.
i just reach lvl 80 and spend a lot of gold to get the lvl 80 gear. so does anyone know who to make gold
For future reference if gold is in short supply or you are new to the game you should use dungeon, WvW and/or temple vendors to equip your characters. You will save a lot of coin this way. Just remember you can’t salvage this gear (you can salvage some of the dungeon armor) so be wary of putting expensive sigil/runes into them.
Once you figure out how to make coin and know which build is right for you than you can drop a lot of gold on armor, weapons, sigils and runes.
With megaservers it doesn’t matter which server you choose. WvW is the only reason to be picky in which server you want to call home.

Welcome back to Tyria:-)
You do miss out on kill & event xp but you recieve writs of xp and tomes of knowledge which more then makes up for that lost xp. I have a stack of both acquiring dust in my bank. I could level a new character to level 80 within minutes if I desired but where’s the fun in that?
ANet is throwing so much easy & free xp at us these days I never thought I’d ever see another complaint on the matter. Thanks for proving me wrong. Lol
Sam, first of all, welcome back! I too took a long break last year and when I came back I fell in love with GW2 all over again. It took me a few weeks to shake the rust off. It was really embarrassing at first but after much blood and sweat I gradually got back to my old playing form.
The new level 80 PvE content can be difficult to solo in both open world and LS2. That being said it can be done. In fact it is very manageable if you are comfortable with your build (been using it for sometime now) and it is a decent build with thought to the tasks you need it to accomplish.
I was able to solo all LS2 on my ele with the final chapter being very smooth. So keep practicing, shake that rust off and if need be bring a friend. Stay patient and don’t expect to be on your A game your first week back after a long break. Keep at it and good luck!
See I’m a weird gamer haha because what I enjoybest is doing things the fastest, safest and most efficient way of doing things lol so which profession would you say will have the least trouble mapping WvW?
From the three professions you have I would recommend warrior for map completion. Warriors are not too hard to play and have a good health pool, dps and armor but most importantly great mobility. Greatsword and a sword/warhorn offhand will allow you to move around quickly and kill quickly as well. The mobility is a life-saver and time-saver in WvW.
Since efficiency is important try to find a decent sized guild that fits your time table and needs. Having a friendly group of players to assist you in dungeons, WvW, answering questions or whatever can really speed things up.
2 hours a week is not much:/ I would try my best to log in at least once a day as the log in reward is pretty nice and you can get nice shinnies (ascended accessories) with laurels.
After that I would focus on just having fun. Two hours a week is not much and spending that time doing something you feel as a grind can hurt your love for playing. Eventually you’ll start to build up a decent treasury and you than can consider a legendary.
On days you feel like exploring go ahead and map a zone. Remember WvW can be the trickiest so start there. Pick a character you enjoy playing and has good mobility to make mapping a smoother process.
So just have fun and maybe someday your schedule might change or a long weekend will allow you to accomplish more. Good luck and happy hunting!
- Enjoyed GW1
- Despise monthly fees
- Dislike traditional MMO mechanics
- Love pretty games that push my PC
- BETA weekends were too much fun
I 2nd the ele. It can be tricky to master but they are so much fun to play. Especially if you go D/D. Other fun options are the necro and ranger. Both easier to play than the ele but are great at soloing pve content.
You need to unlock the living story in which is needed to get those rewards. 200 gems = 30 gold. 60 gold needed for the minimum gem purchase of 400 gems. Not too bad if you apply yourself.
The new story is also better than the normal campaign if that helps.
There is no minimum gem purchase. You can specify whatever amount you want.
Thanks! I keep forgetting that was changed.

I don’t get this thread and the responses
Are you going for a world record dungeon speed run? No? Who cares then
Every profession in full zerk is perfectly fine for dungeons
I remember in the first months of the game I was full rabid running dungeons lol
Find a guild/friends/post your own LFG and no one will kick you
Yea, I totally agree. I run necro in all matters of PvE and we do just fine. Especially dungeons & fractals.
OP, find a more open, casual and non-meta guild. PvE, once the content and the encounters learned, is not all that hard. Sounds like your hanging out with the meta crowd and their standards are frustrating you. If you have to pug just look for casual lfg’s and you should be fine.
Play how you want not how others want you to. There are plenty of us non-meta players out there. Good luck and have fun!
Hi HKunited!
I help run a guild (see sig) that focuses a casual-adult environment. We all work or go to school so it can be hard to connect during the week but our weekends (especially Saturday nights) are always active.
We are a small guild so our non-active times can be really quiet but when we are online we make heavy use of mumble to socialize. If you don’t mind a small community than we might be a fit for you.
Good luck in your search and let me know if you have any other questions!

While it was neat at first in GW1 it quickly became a chore to move goods and the chat spam…oh the map spam! So no. I do not miss it.
Haha! You need to find some new friends to play with. I’ve never been kicked from a dungeon due to my class and I have some really odd but fun class/build marriages.
Start your own LFG’s, be picky in which LFG you join, keep up a good friends list and/or join a guild of like minded players. Problem solved.
My warrior, in full zerk gear with Twilight, is my glorified pack mule. Don’t let the meta rule your life. At the end of the day you get the final say. Game on.
I started yesterday and came to level 10..If I would go to the locations where the dailies can be achieved (either pve/wvw/pvp) I would die just by breathing the wrong way…XD
Ah well..it is a game..not a goal in life :P
Ahh, I remember back when I was that level on my first character…soo many eons ago!
At that young ripe level you should only need one daily requirement done to finish your daily if I remember correctly. So just do one of the easier ones like a gathering or vista. Find Lions Arch and you can portal to any major city and walk to it’s corresponding lowbie zone.
You also get upleveled for WvW/PvP and in WvW if you can find your servers zerg you can be protected some.
Join a guild or make friends and they can assist you! Good luck and welcome to GW2:-)
Pockets is spot on. Throw in a little WvW and/or sPvP and you can get a daily done very quickly.
That being said I agree that the lowbie event daily is by far the worst. I refuse to do it unless it’s in a high level zone like Malchor’s the other day. That was fun. The event completion needs to be regional like the vista, lumberer and miner daily.
The answer should never be to go play a game mode you don’t like, regardless of how easy it might be. PVE Daily options should be just as easy to complete as the PVP and WvW ones, not lopsided into racing for events and hour plus waits for world bosses.
The OP didn’t state he/she didn’t like those game modes. I also agreed with the OP that the event daily needs some adjusting.
The three things I really like about the new daily system is:
1. All you have to do is log in to get your general daily rewards of laurels, mystic coins and other yummies.
2. You only have to complete three requirements to get 10AP. So I’m getting more AP now than from the old system. Even if I don’t do it everyday!
3. It rewards players that have expanded their horizons and do PvE, WvW and sPvP.
If you have cornered yourself into only playing one element of the game than getting the daily done everyday might be a little trickier. As others have pointed out your only missing out on some AP. If you don’t enjoy that days Daily options then don’t do it. You’re not missing much.
If AP is THAT important to you than expand your horizons and learn how to do WvW and/or sPvP. It doesn’t take much effort to explore and participate in these game modes. I took a guildy into sPvP for her first time the other day. She had no idea what to do or what a capture point was. 10 minutes later she was laughing and some dailies were done. Just too easy.

Lack of new content? 3 new maps, Fractals, dungeon path, EoTM, armor/weapon skins, new gemstore items, LS1 & 2, festivals and new crafting levels are what I can think of off the top of my head.
MMO’s typically don’t put out much content within their first couple of years as it’s spent smoothing over the game and putting in things that were promised but missed at launch. Yet we got all of the above for free!
Maybe you’re new to the MMO world but your expectations need to be checked. Now if the current pace of content continues than next year I might be joining you.
Also, check message boards and forums for spare tickets. You can usually find them as people’s plans change and what not.
It’s sad that I actually took the time to make a “thank you” thread rather than the usual complaining, and still get accused of “being new to mmos”. Is this where we compare who’s older and who’s been playing online games the longest? Kudos if you win, but I don’t think I’d bet on it.
Do we need to bring up GW1 and the amount of content and features it saw added in this same time frame? That’s my preferred example anyway; others like to use other games like FFXIV. Heck, even the original EQ has seen 21 xpacs in 15yrs. True, not all themepark games get lots of content added, some do. The ones that do tend to be more well regarded for it, and that used to include GW.
Maybe next time you shouldn’t lead your “positive” thread with the first paragraph filled with negativity. Comparing an MMO to an online-RPG is apples to oranges as well.
Plenty of new content has been released for a 2 year old MMO. Of course we want more because we all enjoy this game and I would be more than happy to see an XPac in late 2015;-)
Happy New Year!
If the character already unlocked a certain trait book, then that character will not get that trait book ever again.
Why not still get it, but make them account bound so you can give them to your alts?
To help reduce inventory clutter. It would get annoying to farm an area and keep getting these trait books when you don’t need them.
The only thing I don’t like about this idea is the last thing I need is more crap in my inventory. Good thinking though.
The biggest problem with the current system is some of the Grandmaster traits are kitten near impossible to unlock in the open world. WvW Grub anyone?! Just making some of the traits more accessible in the open world would be a step in the right direction.
The bigger issue is that the current trait system doesn’t promote build variation while leveling. Traits are currently a pretty much wait until your lvl 80 thing right now which hurts the leveling experience imho.
It’s about the same amount of time depending on how much you play and how effecient your methods are. The increase in price is also more due to supply and demand than any inflation. There are dozens of threads that can explain it much better than I can but it had a lot to do with the update to the wardrobe making Legendary skins available accoung wide and thus increasing demand.
Here’s my list, in no particular order:
No subscription
This is a big one. I could afford a subscription game, but I’d feel pressured to play it to justify the price. This month would be a nightmare for me – I’m away for 2 (non-consecutive) weeks but I want to play in between, so I’d also have to pay for all that time I’m not using. With GW2 I don’t have to worry. No stat treadmill
Yes there is grind in this game, but not for things you have to have to play. When I got to level 80 I got a set of exotic gear pretty much straight away with karma I’d saved up. Then within a month I did both the newly released Flame and Frost dungeon and Arah path 2. In a lot of MMOs that wouldn’t be an option. A newly max level character couldn’t go and do the final dungeon in the game, they’d have to do all the others first to get the other equipment tiers in between.Along the same lines I’m still using some of that same gear now, almost 2 years later, and it’s still basically the top tier (yes there’s ascended, but that’s a very minor improvement).
No Pay-to-win
Sure you can buy gems, convert them to gold and use it to buy exotics, or even legendary weapons. But there is nothing you can get by spending real money that you can’t get relatively easily without spending anything. I have spent money in the gem store, but always for novelty items, I’ve never felt like I had to in order to keep playing.Cooperative PvE
I realise this will sound like I’m paraphrasing Anet’s promotion of the game, but I really like that I don’t have to worry about other people around me in PvE because they can’t, deliberately or accidentally, screw up my game. They can delay me slightly, for example if reviving NPCs counts towards a heart and they revive one before I get there, but it’s relatively rare. I don’t have to worry about them stealing my kills or loot or me stealing theirs, or messing up their events. At worst I’m indifferent to other people, quite often I’m actually happy to see a random stranger come along because I know they’re going to help me, without me having to say or do anything to persuade them. (Sure it’s for their own interest, because they want to complete the event or whatever, but that’s the beauty of it, two people playing in the same area totally independently are also helping each other.)Generally friendly community
This partially stems from the above, but I think the players deserve credit too. There are exceptions of course (come on, it’s the internet) but it’s nice that on the whole people are friendly and civil to each other. The art style
I try not to make graphics a priority for me with games, especially because then it limits the replayability over the years. But I do love the art style in this game, it’s a wonderful mix of realism and something like an oil painting (a slightly impressionist one too, which is a style I like). There’s been many times I’ve just stopped in the middle of what I was doing to admire the scenery. It’s fun
The combat especially. There’s been more than a few times I’ve been genuinely excited during a battle not so much because of the end result as because the process itself is enjoyable. The combination of movement and the variety of attacks makes it exciting to play through even fairly routine fights. Although I much prefer it when a boss has special mechanics that make it distinct from normal enemies. It’s like you read my mind. This is about as close to my list without me actually typing it.
Ditto. Was about to type a long post saying the same things when I luckily saw this one. I would also like to add the TP is one of the best I’ve come across and does a good job in simulating a real market.
As somebody who, for a long time now, has been dissatisfied with the lack of new content/features, I must say I’m greatly looking forward to PAX South.

I really think you should consider a necro. They are pretty hard to kill, have 25% swiftness signet (or just use traveler runes), have solid aoe options, are generally a selfish class and don’t have the higher skill demand that a Ele has.
Engi would be my 2nd choice for you. Only downside is it takes some time to get the trait needed for perma swiftness so you will be rather slow for a bit but the rifle and slick shoes are really nice.
Good luck and happy hunting!
Yup. Report as bots and let ANet sort it out. Hopefully they don’t let it get out of control.
Being afk doesn’t make them bots. I can see such a thing getting way out of hand. Going to the restroom and getting reported. This type of nonsense is what started the DR fiasco over a year ago.
You should read the rest of the thread as you’ve obviously missed a lot. Especially my 2nd post which would be a good response to yours.
I agree it’s not technically botting and a better term for it is afk-farming. There is also a noticable difference between someone who is afk and someone who is afk-farming. ANet does not take action without carefully investigating the matter which is why botters take some time to get banned. Better to let a few rule breakers slip through the cracks than crack down on an innocent customer.
Time spent still, placement and is the account getting rewarded for not being present at the keyboard are probably how ANet probably judges if someone is afk-farming. I’m sure they observe the account for a good amount of time.
Most of us MMO veterans can tell the difference between a bot, an afk-farmer and someone who is just afk. ANet gets the final word if enough reports are sent. If your doing nothing wrong than you have nothing to worry about.
Also, Astral & Shikigami have very informative posts above that should be read.

I said it would be nice, do you want to play this game for ever with 5 weapon skills?
I play with 20 weapon skills and use all of them for a total of 25 skills at my disposal in any given fight. I also have more skills that trigger from weapon procs and dodge rolls. I also can do blast finishers for more spice. More than enough to have fun with in my experience.
Ranger, the why
Personally, I enjoy my pets… It might come as a surprise to most since the majority of players hate their pets, but I feel accompanied by mine. Perhaps a part of this comes from real life as I have very strong connections to my furry compatriots.
I would say most players that play ranger like their pets. Don’t let the loud voices in the forums make you think otherwise! I love my ranger for the same reasons you stated:D
Most fun to me?
1. Ele d/d all the way. Nothing beats it in terms of challenge, fun, in your face, edge of your seat gameplay, wrecking ball feel and pure awesome-sauce results.
2. Ranger because I love my animal companions and affinity with nature which closely resembles the real me. The combat is also fun with the “kick your feet up” pew pew to the action filled mobile melee combat.
3. Necro due to their ability to stay alive and just tear things up. Death Shroud just too much fun!
“What’s the best” is what you find fun to play and yet help your team succeed.
Beautiful world, fun mobile combat, friends, good community, always something to do and I love the business model.
Have nine 80’s and there are still builds, story and game content I need to try out. Friends, both old and new, are always what makes an MMO special. The new maps are too much fun. I enjoy the hunt for new shinies as my alt army needs to look good!
I enjoy all the game modes and with all my alts it keeps the game fresh and interesting. Running a guild and throwing on the dorito when needed is always a fun challenge as well. Best business model in the biz. Enough said.
Happy holidays to all:-)
oRx is spot on. +1
If you are really a casual than I recommend going ranger. They are probably the easiest class to play in open world pve but are not sought after in dungeon speed parties. Thief is fun too but they require more skill and effort to get the most out of them and they are really fun in WvW. Necros are the easiest scholar class to play due to their high health pools but are not in high demand in fractal, dungeon and WvW content.
All that being said play what you enjoy, make friends and if you ever need a hand in game just look me up!
- Maplestix
It is a competetive JP. The event is timed, players cannot help eachother and a score is tallied. There is no need for a checkpoint in a JP that takes 2 minutes to complete.
Pay no attention to those around you and just focus on your jumps. As soon as the bottom row of the presents form (at least the one directly across from the bonfire) you jump and keep jumping. Be wary of presents that start to shake! On the candy cane do a dodge roll just incase.
After learning the JP and getting a good jumping rythym it’s pretty simple. If you’re not good at jumping than get good or do something else. For extra fun do it drunk;-)
1. Fun mobile combat
2. No sub fee
3. Good community in-game
I wish for a large content release involving Cantha in 2015.
Reporting people for being afk? You people are hilarious.
You are missing the point. Going afk is normal and fine. It happens to all of us. It’s when you do it for a devious farming purpose like the ones in front of Red Fort. The NPC’s rez them and they get credit for the defense phases with their pets. They upscale the event and make it harder for those defending the fort.
In Dry Top they had to use macros to heal but in SW the NPC’s keep them upright. A couple of them is no biggie but if the afk-botting crowd increases it can become a larger and serious issue.
PvE sure, you are MOSTLY right.
PvP and WvW also exist however. Try going full DPS… I dare you…
You’re clueless. If you aren’t going full glass on a caster in wvw, you’re doing it wrong.
Casters that go full glass while roaming die pretty easily in my experience. I like the bags so go for it.
Yup. Report as bots and let ANet sort it out. Hopefully they don’t let it get out of control.
It was refreshing to have an additional reason to visit my old friend the Karka Queen. We took some new level 80 alts and explored the map, gathered some mats and killed the KQ. Got a nice exotic drop too boot! Even knocked out a jumping puzzle, had a few drinks and sun bathed on the white sandy beaches. Good times:D
Beautiful map! Nicely done. Can’t wait to get home and download it!
Thanks for replay, but I really don’t think high armor class suit my playstyle… I think I enjoy taking risks… Let’s say this way. I want to survive with my positioning, not with my armor =)
Warriors don’t just survive by their armor. GW2 is very different than your traditional MMO. For instance I have a very tanky ele and a very squishy dps centered warrior. It’s all about how you build your character and the combat is more about mobility and mitigating damage over face-tanking foes.
I think if a dps centered class where you can help carry your dungeon group is what your looking for than warrior should be high on that list and trust me in melee you’ll be living on the edge;-)
If your willing to play mesmer than you should be open to ele as well. Try dagger/dagger for a much different playstyle from what your used to in other MMO’s.
Theives are also an awesome single target dps class.
Plenty of fun options out there so experiment and keep an open mind. This game is a refreshing take from what you might be used too!
Blame the Asurans. Faulty WP design indeed. Sue them I say!
I play how I want every time I log in.
+1 Same here!
CC works wonders too. Ranger has pets and bows with decent interupts. Bring a friend if needed!
Use a bloodlust sigil on your underwater weapon as well and you should be able to keep your stacks when entering water.
I jumped into the final big present and it bugged resetting me at the beginning. Other than that I saw no other concerns. It’s really a rythem/timing type puzzle. Learn the patterns and keep up a good pace and it’s all snow globe;-)
Fools will be focusing on Wintersday events for the next couple of weeks! If you’re looking for a pretty small gang to team up with come check us out and hang with us in mumble for coffee and fresh baked bread;-)
Our prime time is late afternoons to early evenings during the week and up all night over the weekends. We are a casual non-meta, non-elitist guild with a focus on PvE but some WvW roaming on the side.
Feel free to pm or mail me in-game for more info. Happy Wintersday hunting!

Hi Icewolf!
If you like pretty small, adult-casual and social you might like Fools N Gold. We are a PvX guild on TC with a focus on PvE, socializing on our mumble server and helping each-other. Our prime time is late afternoon to early evenings EST. Weekends we play late into the night.
Here is our forum recruitment page for more info: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor/Fools-N-Gold-FNG-on-TC-PvX-Adult-Casual/first#post4618443
So if you like making real friends and socializing on VOIP but don’t mind a pretty small guild you’re more than welcomed to give us a shot. Happy hunting!

It’s a shame. Would be extra fun with friends!
The point of doing the old daily for me was for the laurels. Now I get those just by logging in everday. On top of that I can increase my usual 3 AP gain by doing more. Sounds like a win win to me. I also get more goodies from the chests!
Took a new guildy into WvW for her first time so we could grab extra daily bonuses and she got so hooked that she was late to work:-)
The old system was so casual that I didn’t have to even think about it. Do a Tequatl and the daily would be done. Ho hum. Now I can actually get more by doing more.
So far I like the new daily system. Takes very little time and I get more rewards!
