When I was a young lad I felt the same OP but as the years went by I began to shift from seeing the char on screen as myself to just seeing it as a protagonist on screen. Meaning playing female char’s became a thing for me (I still also play male char’s as well) where I also got the added bonus of looking at some nice eye candy.
Now when you get hit on it is only wrong if you go along with it (if that’s not your type of thing). I always make it clear who they are talking to.
We definitely need a luck eater. It’s a useless resource once you hit max luck and it’s so easy to accumulate vast amounts of it if you farm the larger meta maps. Something similar to the other eaters would be perfect and if they can in addition come up with more uses for it then also great.
All resources should continue to have some value. Especially salvaged resources.
Loved the beautiful city, music and night sky. I felt like I was in a desert! My friends and I enjoyed the bounties and champ/legendary fights but felt the veteran hydras were way too easy to solo for such cool looking beasts.
Loved the feel and idle animations of the raptor mount but there were a number of spots where the map felt like it needed some cleaning as our raptors would easily get stopped, slowed or stuck unnecessarily when moving a tree from another tree a little would avoid this.
Does anyone have any other ideas?
I have been wanting a new legendary longbow since the beginning of time. I mean, Kudzu is cool but it is rather feminine and thus only fits with a few of my characters. My poor Norn refuses to use such a thing and demands something a little more masculine!
I don’t care if the next legendary longbow is nature themed or not. I just want something a big tough Norn would appreciate. The Eclipse idea sounds cool and if done right is something I might be interested in.
My idea is one that resembles the latest short bow in that it is animal themed but instead of tigers it is one built around wolves. Garm being one way to go about it, a new single wolf or a pack of wolves would be pretty cool.
While I would love a legendary longbow built around a wolf or eclipse theme at the end of the day we really just need a more masculine counter-part to Kudzu. Make it happen ANet and no more gem driven half-kittened short cuts like Eir’s Legacy Longbow!
A Disk-I/O error has occured!
Guild Wars 2 will now terminate.Been getting this error every so often of late. The other day I couldn’t zone into Brisban Wildlands and tonight I was not able to join my friends in Fractals:/
The other day I was eventually able to log into Brisban but this is now getting frustrating!
Sounds like it maybe some type of issue with your hard drive. You could try reinstalling the game to another location or using chkdsk (if you’re using a windows machine). You could also try the GW2 repair option.
Thanks. I think you might be onto something. I will try to repair or move the game files to another drive and hope that works.

I made a Gift of Fortune prior to HoT and was happy to learn that we could unpack them and get our mats back.
Question is: How do we go about doing this?
I do it all the time through lfg or guildmates. Or if needed I jump on my ranger and just kite like a pro. Get a few peeps and it takes just a couple of minutes.
Pocket Raptors, like most mobs, all have counters. AOE, dodge, block and they are harmless. I find them adorable! Just like snipers and smokescale that I 1 or 2 shot while gathering flax and other goodies in the jungle.
It’s ok to die sometimes. Just realize it can be avoided most of the time.
Happens a lot on my ele too now. never been this bad before.
I agree! I want my old fireballs back! The effects should be reduced on contact not while en route to target. They look soo bad right now.
TD Meta has scaling issues. Not sure why you made a meta event that goes against the build diversity you preached to us prior to HoT but the only chance this meta has to succeed with a pub organized map is to either keep the numbers down and thus tell players to leave the area and/or to go max dps and hope for the best. Nuhock and Scar have severe scaling issues.
Worst balanced map meta in the game. What adds salt to the wound is you have such important legendary, mastery and specialization rewards locked behind it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Try making a gathering banner! It costs several gold to make…
Guys, I’m putting down this gathering banner but anyone that touches it needs to send me a gold to help pay for it. Thanks.
Of course! HoT has been a lot of fun for my guild/friends and myself. Yes, some things like GH upgrades and scribing having cost issues, they dropped the ball on Fractals and there are a few other balance issues in the new maps (looking at you TD meta!) but all-in-all it’s been a lot of fun with tons of new added features and new toys/skins to grab. Can’t get enough!
HOPE step IV Problems: Succeeding at Failing
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Bandit.8279
Totally agree OP. I had the same issues with HOPE and I kept scratching my head as to why I had to convince players to let something fail so I could get my collection item.
I was lucky enough to find friendly and helpful people for the Quaggan event so they left it be as I promised them a champion if they did.
The wraith was an all day battle to convince players not to defend Lyssa and than to time it right so that by the time the zerg finally came I had already freed and held Union wp long enough to trigger the wraith before Lyssa was killed.
Gerent is a different issue entirely…
Adventures are a lot of fun! Not to mention a great source of xp and enjoyment among friends. Love competing with my guildies and talking smack. Plus, these are a good source of solo content for those that like to do things on their own or just want a mini game away from the hectic battles in HoT. Now some are more fun than others but that is a matter of personal taste.
Luckily there are many other means to gain mastery points and once things like gliding are maxed out a couple of these adventures become much easier to get gold on.
Yup. The issues with this meta really come down to Nuhock and Scar. Nuhock has scaling issues. Scar has broken mechanics and requires so much dps that the room for error is so slim that anyone not running full dps builds hurt the lane which goes against everything else in HoT. If this map is going to survive the meta completion rate needs to come up.
DS only takes about an hour to reach final chest. The pod farming is an added bonus. DT has an hour long cycle and can be hard to navigate for new players and is still doing fine a year later not to mention SW can be a time sink if you start on a fresh map and complete the Lab.
VB is a great source of event farming and xp not to mention fun canopy battles. Along with it being the first map giving mastery’s and HP I do not see VB ever having issues.
The trick hasn’t changed. If you have the time/patience and enjoy it you stay on the map and help it progress. If you’re short on time or don’t like the map you use the LFG and jump in when they need to fill the map for the meta to get the mats you need. I can get 2 meta’s in with just about an hour investment with TD and AB.
DS is not only an epic final battle but there are a lot of mastery points and specialization collections tied to it so I do not see that map ever having population issues.
The only map that is having issues right now is TD but if the meta success rate can be brought in line with the other three maps than I think TD will be just fine as well. It’s an explorers paradise (much like DT but on a much larger scale!) with hidden gems tucked away and those caches are rather yummy.
So my advice is to use the meta event timers and learn when you need to look at the lfg to find what you’re looking for. HF and GL!
The problem is not rewards. It’s not the difficulty in navigating the map. It’s not getting enough people either. Been helping organize pug maps for the last few days. We have always been able to fill the map and get about 20 in each lane.
The problems come mostly in two lanes:
- Nuhock scales poorly. So if extra players jump into that lane after the commander has stated he doesn’t want anymore it can’t get out of hand with elites spawning. The other problem, a smaller one, is just teaching players to leave early at the end of the burn phase. It can lead to a quick failure.
- Scar lane. The bonus from the thumpers seems bugged. The break-bar insta breaks and the lane is punished for it. This results in this lane being a major DPS hurtle to overcome and on a map where the average adventurer will run with a beefed up build while exploring the map this can be problematic when max dps is a must. Not to mention the other 3 maps have meta events where players can run different types of builds and not get punished for it. TD meta seems very out of place compared to those three.
I understand we already have a world boss (Triple Trouble) that requires organized guilds to tackle it but the TT world boss is rather isolated in terms of what rewards are given. The fact that legendary, mastery and specialization rewards are locked behind the TD meta make it even more painful as the losses mount and the community becomes frustrated.
Many of us will continue to teach and educate the community in how to tackle this meta as I have seen several pug organized maps come very close and we know a few have succeeded. I also hope ANet will take a look at it and balance the difficulty to match that of the other new maps and to remove any of the bugs plaguing it.
Cheers!
All my friends/guildies love HoT. Sure it has it’s bugs and some things still need tweaking but overall we can’t get enough of it. Forums are where people go to whine and complain.
Forum posts claimed Dry Top would be empty soon after it’s release. Forum posts claimed Silverwastes would be empty a few months after it’s release. Now forum posts claim the same for the new maps. Whine whine whine and yet all those maps are still doing just fine.
Most of us having fun are in game!
The starting WP is also always open. Taking a bouncing mushroom near it will land you near several Exalted Portals that you can use to get to contested areas of the map. Never really seen this as an issue as it only takes a couple of minutes (depending on load times) to get back. With no armor repair costs there has to be some downside to death.
Just helped a guildmate get his own personal GH last week. We 4 manned it. After doing it with a much larger amount of players with another guild I can safely tell you that more is not always better. 4-5 competent players is probably the sweet spot and that is not very hard to manage.
So, how am I supposed to do the hero points?

I have ran several alts through the HP’s to get their elite spec maxed. The trick is really patience and teamwork. Most of the time I found there was someone already waiting there or responding to my map chat. Tagging up here helps a lot to show people where you are. All too easy to get a Mentor tag.
If no one responds or shows up I just move on to the next one and either try again later or will see in map chat someone else needing help for it. Having friends and guildies really makes it all very doable. If you’re a solo player you need to realize that playing social games and being a lone wolf will have it’s draw backs and patience will be needed.
The only HP that might be over-tuned is Balthazar in AB. Even then there has always been a group eventually attempting it while I’m mapping elsewhere. Much like SW and DT, as long as the rewards are good enough, the maps will always be alive.
The only map having problems will be TD since some can’t navigate it and the Meta has been given up on by large sections of the community. VB, AB and DS all have successful Meta maps with some regularity. Make sure to get out of the sparsely populated overflow maps if you need those Meta HP’s. Meta timers and LFG make it all possible. Having friends/guildmates make it much easier.
OP,
I don’t grind for my masteries and yet have 94 points already used. Just play the game with XP boosters/food and the xp just comes rolling in so fast. If you think playing the game is a grind than that’s on you. I enjoy doing events and such.
Not sure why you would want to do events, story, gathering, adventures and such for masteries if you feel they are grindy for masteries that only benefit the same pve environment that you already don’t enjoy.
If I find myself in a difficult event/champ fight I just tag up and post it in map chat. People always come. Now with the mentor tag anyone can do this.
Also, I think map populations can fluctuate greatly because many are drawn to just the meta event and leave shortly after which leaves the map rather empty. You can go to your character select screen and just come back in and hope for a better map. You won’t lose your participation progress.
Many players are also just farming Hero Points so they may not be interested in events.
I’m curious to know if you actually tested the creatures in HoT? because, the fruits of your labor are screaming “I was never tested for real-in-game-testing”.
Smokescales: Just slap some power nerfs on these guys and they should be fine, but seriously, so much evading it is ridiculous.
Master Gwyllion: WTF are you thinking!? His mechanics don’t even make sense!! He instakills the whole group, and he takes a massive group to kill him apparently. I have yet to see a successful group yet. He needs a way to be dodged or something. He shouldn’t do 100k damage to go through deathshroud and full health in one hit. the smokescales don’t help. Needs a massive rework.
Any Enemy Frog dude: Shadowstepping is way too broken. Not too mention the amount of stabbings they do you cannot dodge. Let me tell you it sucks. You need to pull back on whatever super damage ideas you have. They instant drop on you and you only get 2 dodges.
Mordrem dissentors (I believe that is what they are called): They are in the instance that get’s you the guild hall. Outrun the fastest player and kills them in 3 hits no matter who they are. I wish I was joking. I don’t know why you guys are obsessed with killing players so much. anyone not a professional player gets wiped on the floor.
I’m begging you guys. Please fix these. These are the most obvious. Bugs exist and I understand that. Just please tone it down or give us buffs!! Please!!
You must be playing a different game than the one I’m playing. Because in the one I’m playing I see my guildies and myself dodge/block smokescales (you can also CC them before they go crazy) and then kill them quickly outside of their red circles. I see my friends/allies with stealth detection kill Master Gwyllion all the time and he doesn’t insta kill anyone. He insta downs players. Big difference. CC, reflects and stun breaks make quick work of the frog dudes. I’ve helped take two different guild halls and both groups (a 15 man and the other was 4 manned) never had issues with winning.
So the lesson here is in my game players have well rounded builds, know how to use them and have them oriented at dealing with the task/mobs at hand. In your game this is obviously not the case.
Did VB map completion on my warrior and got reward. My friend just got his reward as well. Went back to my ranger and after VB map completion got no reward….
I just got it to work! I quit chapter 14 and went back to 13. WP to LA. Completely logged out of the game. Came back in and reselected chapter 14. Had no issues.
Story Mission 14 – Sign Cutting
- If you are still stuck please zone out to another map, such as PvP or Lion’s Arch, and then come back.
Still having this issue. Zoned out, quit the mission and then continued it, still stuck. Did various combinations of quitting, leaving the map, going to pvp, and everything together.
Got to the (last?) marker by the Dragon Passage Waypoint, it appeared, I got close, the UI checked off the objective, but I got nothing after. If I go to Dragon’s Stand or Auric Basin, I get the green swirly icon pointing back to Tangled Depths, but when I go there, no green markers or instance entrances anywhere I can see.
All in the last 30 minutes or so if you have logs or something you can check on me. Also available if you need to ask any questions directly or anything I can do to help. Thanks for all you guys do!
Will you try zoning out to a non-expansion area and let me know what happens?
I zoned out to WvW. I zoned out to Rata Sum. I zoned out to different HoT maps. I reset the story to chapter 13 and then went back to 14. I relogged. I did the dishes and made coffee but after finding the first few rocks I get stuck at the bottom of the Ogre/Chak area where the last rock is with the bar totally filled and the Sing Cutting story gives me no indicator of where to go next:(
Yea, finding the tracks was tricky but now the final Sign Cutting is no where to be found:/
Love my Tempest in the new content. I run a Settler condi focused auramancer D/W and can crush large groups of enemies. Pretty fun! Just bring a staff for the Legendary Wyvern fights;-)
Running full Settler Tempest D/W auramancer and can take on just about anything. Can even solo some of the Hero Point Champions but my issue is I usually run out of time.
Prior to switching to a tanky support/condi Tempest I ran my glassy Sin burn D/D and it was tricky to survive some of the content. Have had a lot more success once I put some durability into my builds.
I am finally switching to Reaper. The content is difficult and tempest is the worst spec you can have as a solo ele. I find my character alone most of the time, and there are just no advantages to using a tempest spec in this scenario.
You’re just using the wrong builds. I have had no such issues on my Tempest.
(edited by Bandit.8279)
the complaints are large in number because the players enjoying it are too busy playing! (except me, I’m at work)
Exactly! This is my first visit to the base forums since release. Been too busy having fun in the new content. Already have my Tempest at 100% complete and almost all HoT masteries at 3rd tier and above. HoT has brought back my love for exploration and challenging solo PvE:-)
I play solo a lot and have had no such issues. Most of the normal events only need one or two players. Player skill and picking and making the right build play a large part out here.
If someone asks for help I come. If I need help I call it out in map chat. Every once in a while I am met with failure but one thing I know is this sure beats the face roll content in most of the base game.
HoT has brought back the need to have good personal skill/build if you want to solo.
No problems prior and now I’m averaging one random crash every 2 hours or so.
You have to unlock all core specs before you can start unlocking an elite one….
I think most of us already know this;)
It was in response to a couple of people posting about only unlocking the specs that they wanted and saving points for the elite
Then you are absolutely correct and I +1 your post! See you in the jungle:)
You have to unlock all core specs before you can start unlocking an elite one….

I really need that mummy backpack for my necro. Beyond that, not sure. Those minis look fun lol
Mummy or Bat/Dragon wings…decisions decisions…need those bat shoulders too…and who knows what else…lol
I will probably be Halloween 80%, HoT 20%
Pretty much this^^
I will be spending about 80% of my time farming Halloween to death getting all the yummies but mixing in the HoT story and hunting down enough Hero Points to finish my Tempest.
Sooooo much to do I will have to keep the coffee supplies fully stocked in order to survive! lol
I already have over 200 Hero Points on my future Tempest so I will probably just kitten myself with about half of the Tempest Specialization finished and play with one of my support/condi auramancer builds I have created for her.
If needed I can always go back to one of my tried and true D/D builds even though I doubt that will be necessary. Playing a Tempest auramancer during BWE2 was extremely fun and rewarding and I’m counting down the hours to launch!

I know I now won’t be enjoying the HoT content like I should be. I’m going to be focusing on running several characters through the zones getting hero points to unlock elite specializations.
This is going to feel okay the first and second time. This is going to feel terribly grindy the 7th and 8th and 9th time though.
That’s your own fault. You could play WvW and continue mapping the old content just for the HP which doesn’t take too long. If these alts are that important to you and if you really wanted a new spec bad enough you should have some prep work done already.
These are new Elite Specializations coming with the new expansion. We should’ve expected to play the new content to unlock the new specs. Nothing is given away for free in MMO’s.
I will be enjoying the new content and not grinding anything outside of Halloween ofc. Take your time and focus on having fun!. The HoT content isn’t going any where.
Bad decision, really. How can I as a member of a multi server guild possibly do WvW guild missions with my guild. You should have had a PvE option the first week, not a WvW option.
How can a member of a multi-server guild possibly do WvW missions with their guild?
It’s WvW so of course you can’t do it with anyone not on your server silly. Also, Colin answered your question above. Multiple teams can contribute to WvW missions. I’m guessing many of the WvW missions will be to kill X amount of players or take X amount of camps for example.
Are there WvW guild missions that can possibly be completed in Edge of the mists at all?
If I remember correctly that is a no. They answered that question on a live stream not too long ago.
0 keys as mob drops and after doing about 15 map completions (no cities ofc) I got about 6 keys. My friend had a much lower map drop rate so I feel the RNG gods were smiling upon me.
I also replied to your other post. You can get a makover/hairstyle kit from the gem store or a lucky drop from a black lion chest. You can message me in game if you need any more help. Good luck and happy hunting!

I feel like 90% of the people in this thread didn’t even read the blog post…
I’m quite excited for the changes. Looking forward to seeing what happens!
Particularly like the mentions of fixing the broken markets.
Exactly! Thank you for adding some wisdom in here:) lol
People want to read in between the lines and are always assuming the worst. This isn’t the first time either. Every time a new change comes there are a group of players over reacting. It’s kind of funny to watch really. Then in a month or so it’ll all make sense.
I’m happy for the changes as well and hopefully we get some added value to some mats for the leather and jeweler crafts. New markets will always open up too. It’ll be fun to partake in it and hopefully make a nice profit.
They’re going to nerf materials output from salvaging, that includes cloth, ore and wood. This just strikes me as the final blow to the economy, and a HUGE middle finger to those who purchased infinite salvage items from their Gem Store.
Thanks.
You’re jumping the gun here. It was stated as “some”. Meaning they hopefully keep the demand up of those currently in a good spot and can raise the demand of the mats needing it like thick leather.
They are just making adjustments to keep and maintain a healthy economy. No reason to hit the panic button yet until we see how everything unfolds over the next month or two.
